A 5 days trip to Singapore from India

How do you plan a trip to Singapore from India on your own instead of a guided tour ? Singapore is one of the most sought after destinations for holiday with family and kids . Even more so with kids. It’s particularly loved amongst Indians. Since the country has a substantial Indian populations. Thus, Indian food and Indian culture is all over Singapore 🙂 . And it is also located at a flying distance of just 4 hours from India.  Moreover, Singapore makes for an idle destination to visit in May and June, when it’s kid’s summer vacation time in India!! As we took a 5 days trip to Singapore from India, we realised it is very easy to plan a 5 days trip to Singapore from India. And you can do all the planning on your own. So, in this blog post, we will tell you how you can plan your own 5 days trip to Singapore from India, while we were pondering where to go next after our beautiful Meghalaya trip.

Prior to your 5 days trip to Singapore from India

Prior to your trip, you need to do your bookings and obtain your Singapore VISA. Bookings would include:

  • A round trip flight ticket to Singapore from your starting city in India
  • Your accommodation
  • Tickets to the attractions that you want to visit

Booking your flight for your 5 days trip to Singapore from India

To book your flight, compare different flight options at skyscanner.in or similar website. And choose the one that suits you the best. Since there are many flights from Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and other major cities of India to Singapore. Do try these tips and tricks to score cheaper flights . We flew scoot airlines on our own trip to Singapore, having booked the tickets through makemytrip . It is an economical airlines. Here, we had the choice to just book a round trip ticket with a cabin luggage only option. And then later we could top it up anytime, up to a couple of hours before flying. The top-ups included:

  • Buying a check-in luggage option by paying a nominal fee.
  • Choice of a meal from the given options online on scoot airlines website at a minimal cost.
  • Web check-in with reserving the seats of our choice.

For a 5 days trip to Singapore, if you pack wisely, you can easily accommodate your luggage in a cabin only backpack or small trolley bag. We did the same for our trip, and easily accomplished it using our travel packing tricks that we use frequently now. The best advantage of a cabin only luggage is that you need not wait for your checked in luggage, which often wastes more than half an hour of time.

Singapore VISA for your 5 days trip to Singapore from India

Gardens by the bay Singapore | 5 days trip to Singapore from India

Indians require a VISA to visit Singapore. Singapore VISA is applied online. But in India, there are authorized agents who do it. You will definitely find one in your city. For South India, the VISA applications are processed from Chennai embassy while for North India from Delhi embassy. The VISA application costs around INR 1500 at the time of this writing. And the agents add a small application processing fee on top of it. We went with Thomas Cook to get our VISA application processed, however, we didn’t have an idle experience with them. Read this article for the details of how to get the Singapore VISA from India, what documents are required etc.

Booking an accommodation for your 5 days trip to Singapore from India

Singapore has many different accommodation options. Depending on what suits you, choose one at least 3 months in advance and book online to get better deals. There are hundreds of accommodations (hostels, hostels, apartments, B&Bs) listed on Booking.com and Agoda.com , our favorite go to sites for accommodation booking.

If you are traveling with friends or backpacking solo, and are on a strict budget, then there are many hostels that cost as low as INR650 per night. If you are traveling with friends or family and want to have a private space, then go for one of the many service apartment options. They range from economy to luxury. Similarly, there are many hotel options, ranging from economy (starting at INR 2500 per night) and going to luxury and super luxury. But you must book your accommodation in advance for the mid-range options, since get filled up the fastest.

If possible book something which is close to the attractions that are on your must visit list. And also close to a public transport like a MRT station.

Our hotel in Singapore

We booked our Singapore hotel, Hotel Parc Sovereign , through agoda.com . For our trip to Singapore in the year 2018 . The reason we booked this accommodation was:

  • There was free cancellation till 4 days before our travel, with total refund.
  • We needed to make the payment only 4 days before our travel, although we had booked the rooms 2 months in advance.
  • Most of the airbnb options and service apartments were not cancellable.
  • The hotel is located quite near to Kitchener Road, where there are many Indian Food Restaurants. So, we thought it would be convenient for our  elderly parents taking the trip with us, to walk and have Indian food, as they accompanied us on this trip
  • The hotel was also near to most of the attractions that we wanted to visit like Sentosa Island, Merlion, Gardens by the Bay etc.
  • There is a MRT at around 600m from the hotel, again, walkable.

What to pack for a trip to Singapore from India

Singapore has hot and humid climate all through the year. As such, you need to pack really light cloths. Checkout our comprehensive travel packing checklist to help you pack the right travel accessories , your camera for the travel and travel essentials that you must have . Also, if you are traveling with baby, toddler or kids like we us, you should definitely checkout our travel packing essentials that are made for kids ! We don’t go anywhere without them. Last, but not the least, don’t forget to pack your essential medicines for travel when traveling to Singapore. It is not easy to procure a medicine there if required. My father forgot his insulin and he couldn’t get any in Singapore without first visiting a doctor, going through a thorough assessment and then obtaining a prescription !

Deciding the things to do and places to see

There are many things to do and places to see in Singapore. Of course, not all can be done on a 5 days trip to Singapore. So, you need to choose. If you are traveling with a group of friends or doing a solo trip to Singapore , you might have a different kind of interest area than when you are traveling with family and kids. Also, whether you are interested in shopping or food, adventure or calm trip, it all would determine what you would want to add to your 5 days trip to Singapore from India.

5 days trip to Singapore from India

We visited Singapore with our parents and our kid. Thus, we added things to our own 5 days trip to Singapore from India, so that they balance the interest of everyone. Accordingly, I am categorizing the things, and you can choose one or more of them. The one in Italics are the ones we were able to cover on our trip:

  • Kids friendly attractions : Singapore Zoo , River Safari , Night S afari , Jurong Bird Park , Universal Studio Singapore , SEA Aquarium , Dolphin Island, Butterfly park & Insect Kingdom
  • Other attractions : Gardens by the bay , Merlion , Marina Bay , Botanical Gardens, Singapore Flyer
  • Shopping options: Orchard Road and the numerous malls there, Mustafa Center on Kitchener Road , Bugis Street Market, Little India

Booking tickets to the attractions

For most of the attractions that require an entry ticket, you can book the ticket online. The prices are fixed. So, you can book them anytime before your trip. This will save you time waiting in the queue at the entrance to the attractions to book your ticket. However, the queues here are not too long, like the ones for attractions in Europe that we visited last year like the Vatican in Rome ,  Engelberg and Mount Titlis or the entrance ticket to Keukenhof Tulip Gardens .

For Singapore, we had booked online the combo tickets to the Singapore Zoo , night safari, river safari and jurong bird park, which was discounted compared to the individual tickets. We had also booked the tickets to Universal Studio online. Rest all, we had thought we will book on the fly as and when we decide to visit somewhere.

Day 1 of your 5 days trip to Singapore from India

Always keep the first day light. As you need some time to give yourself after your flight, check-in and landing into a new place, before you can start full fledged exploration. Also Singapore timezone is 2.5 hrs ahead of India, which means, there might be a slight jet lag on the first day. Particularly with kids.

On the first day of our 5 days trip to Singapore from India, we arrived in Singapore at 8:30am in the morning. However, clearing immigration took around an hours time as there was a long queue. From the airport, we then went straight to Kitchener Road and had breakfast/lunch there in Shravana Bhavan , a South Indian Food Joint. Also, we bought some fruits from nearby grocery store. From here, we walked to our hotel and reached there by around 12:00 pm. Although the hotel check-in time was 3:00 pm. But luckily, our rooms got ready by 1:00 pm and then we shifted to our room and took rest for couple of hours.

Evening, we had planned to visit Marina Bay , Gardens by the Bay and Merlion . Later, while returning from there, we again had dinner at the same road, in a restaurant next to Shravana Bhavan. In fact, for the rest of the trip we visited this area for breakfast and dinner since we could easily get many Indian Restaurants here which was really convenient for our parents.

Day 2 of your 5 days trip to Singapore from India

On the second day of our 5 days trip to Singapore from India, we visited Universal Studio. We had kept the previous day light. So, we had a good night’s sleep to wake up fresh today. Post breakfast, we headed to Universal Studio on the Sentosa Island. Inside Universal Studio, we tried to mix the activities so that both we and our kid would enjoy. So, we did some kid friendly rides, some adventure rides for adults and enjoyed the Shrek 4 D Adventure movie as well. There are plenty of food options inside Universal Studio but most of them are fast food options, and there are very limited options for vegetarians. You could carry packaged and sealed snacks from outside as well. Open food containers are not allowed as per the information on the internet, but, we didn’t have any of our bags checked.

Day 3 of your 5 days trip to Singapore from India

After a day full of fun at Universal Studio Singapore, today, we headed to Sentosa Island to visit rest of the attractions here. Our day started with a visit to SEA Aquarium, which is considered one of the best aquarium parks in the world. It look us much more than the anticipated amount of time to complete our trip of SEA Aquarium, Singapore since our little one spent time appreciating each and every variety of fish that she could see. When we came out of there by noon, we had lunch near the Malaysian Food Court between the SEA Aquarium and Universal Studio entrances. Thereafter we roamed around the Sentosa Island before heading back to the main city of Singapore. We intended to cover the Butterfly park and Insect Kingdom as well. But we couldn’t as the kid was very sleepy. If you can, do add them next to your itinerary. In fact, you could add the Sentosa Island Attractions in the following order on this day of your trip:

  • SEA Aquarium
  • Butterfly park and Insect Kingdom
  • Dolphin Show
  • Cable Car ride back to the main island of Singapore

Day 4 of your 5 days trip to Singapore from India

Today, start the day with visiting the Singapore Zoo as we did. Either reach early and have breakfast at one of the restaurants at the entrance of the zoo. Or, you can book a “ breakfast with Orangutans ” which your kids will definitely love. There are a couple of vegetarian Indian food options on almost all the restaurants either outside or inside the Singapore zoo. If you explore the zoo properly, it will take you around 5-6 hours easily. Arrive a little late in the zoo in case you want to combine the zoo trip with river safari and night safari otherwise you will get exhausted by evening.

Read: Visiting Singapore Zoo with kids

Once done visiting the Singapore zoo, you could get out of the zoo and get into the river safari zone which has entrance just besides the zoo. We headed for the river safari by 5:00 pm. It can be done in around 2 hours. After the river safari is over, you can have dinner at one of the cafes or restaurants in front of the zoo / river safari area. And then proceed for the night safari. The night safari starts post 7:00 pm. It will take you along the trails in the Singapore Zoo at night, where you can see the active nocturnal animals.

Day 5 of your 5 days trip to Singapore from India

Today, being the last day of our trip to Singapore, we again kept it light. Our hotel check-out was around 12:00 pm. And our flight was in the evening. So, we visited the Jurong Bird park in the morning and had breakfast near there. Then we checked-out from our hotel by around 12:00 pm. We left our luggage at the hotel reception and ventured out for some food and shopping. Upon returning, we collected our luggage and proceeded to the Changi Airport . The Changi Airport is nothing less than a grand visiting place in itself. So, we explored the Airport before saying goodbye to Singapore.

PS: As always, ourselves being travellers with full time day jobs , we could spend only 5 days on our Singapore trip. If you have more time at hand, you can try other attractions in Singapore including Comic Con Singapore , Adventure Cove Waterpark , Changai Airport Attractions , Singapore river cruise , skyline , cable car sky pass , The Maritime Experiential Museum , Snow City Singapore , Sightseeing Bus Tour , Pororo Park  and  Trick eye museum . We have saved these to try on our next trip to Singapore 🙂 . In case you are exploring many attractions, it’s a good idea to go for an uber pass like an Unlimited attractions pass which will include the entry to many of the attractions. It will give flexibility and will be economical too.

Covering nearly 9,000 km, this trip from India to Singapore was the ultimate adventure that tested my limits while rewarding me with unforgettable memories.

The journey had everything—off-road trails, slippery mountain passes, smooth highways, and even iron bridges that stretched over breathtaking landscapes. I rode through rain-soaked forests, tackled rugged terrains, and cruised past stunning views that left me in awe.

Every day brought something new, whether it was navigating challenging paths or simply enjoying the thrill of the open road. This trip from India to Singapore was more than just a ride—it was an exhilarating adventure that took me across borders and into a whole new world. It’s an experience I believe every passionate rider should chase at least once in their life.

Ways to visit Singapore from India

When planning a trip from India to Singapore, there are several options to choose from, including flights, trains, and road trips. While flying is the quickest and most popular method, adventurers may find the road trip option from India to Singapore particularly exciting.

Route Itinerary: From India to Singapore

The route from India to Singapore takes you through some of the most stunning and diverse parts of Southeast Asia. Here’s a breakdown of the route and key cities along the way:

India (Start Point)

1. Start Point : New Delhi or Kolkata (depending on where you live). For our Road Trip from India to Singapore guide we are choosing New Delhi as a starting point.

2. Key Destination : Moreh (Manipur) – This is the gateway to Myanmar. From here, you’ll cross into Tamu , the first town on the Myanmar side.

1. Tamu : Welcome to Myanmar! This small town is your first taste of this beautiful country. Here, you’ll adjust to driving on the right-hand side of the road.

2. Mandalay : One of Myanmar’s historic cities, with stunning pagodas and rich culture. Great place for a break.

3. Naypyidaw : The country’s capital is surprisingly quiet and worth exploring for its modern architecture and wide roads.

4. Yangon : Myanmar’s bustling former capital. A great stop to refuel, rest, and enjoy a bit of sightseeing. Visit the Shwedagon Pagoda, the city’s most iconic structure.

1. Mae Sot : Cross the border from Myanmar into Thailand here. You’ll need to handle some paperwork but after that, you’re good to go!

2. Bangkok : Thailand’s vibrant capital city is perfect for a longer rest. Explore the temples, and markets, and indulge in some delicious Thai street food.

3. Chumphon : A coastal town where you can stop before heading into Malaysia.

1. Bukit Kayu Hitam : This is the border town between Thailand and Malaysia.

2. Penang : Known for its amazing food and colonial architecture, Penang is a great place to stretch your legs and explore.

3. Kuala Lumpur : Malaysia’s capital is where you’ll want to spend some time. Visit the iconic Petronas Towers and Batu Caves before heading on to your final destination.

Johor-Singapore Causeway : This is the final leg of your journey. You’ll cross from Malaysia into Singapore via the causeway. Welcome to the Lion City!

Cost Breakdown: What to Expect

While the road trip from India to Singapore was a dream come true, managing the budget was definitely a challenge. As someone who had a tight budget but wanted to experience so much more along the way, I had to be extra mindful of how quickly expenses added up.

The India to Singapore trip cost can surprise you if you’re not prepared. From fuel and accommodation to food and border crossing fees, everything adds up. If you’re planning your own trip to Singapore from India, it’s important to plan ahead so you can enjoy the journey without worrying too much about the budget.

Fuel Costs : Fuel costs will vary depending on your vehicle’s mileage and fuel rates across countries. On average, expect to spend around ₹35,000 to ₹45,000 on fuel alone for the entire trip. Keep in mind that fuel is cheaper in India and Malaysia but more expensive in Singapore.

Accommodation : Budget hotels or motels will likely be your best bet for affordable accommodation. Plan for about ₹2,000 to ₹5,000 per night, depending on where you stop and your level of comfort. This would put your accommodation cost around ₹40,000 to ₹80,000 for the entire trip.

Visas and Permits : This varies by country:

1. Myanmar : eVisa costs around ₹3,000.

2. Thailand : Visa on arrival for Indians is about ₹2,000.

3. Singapore : Singapore visa costs around ₹2,000.

Carnet de Passage : You’ll need this for your vehicle (more on this below), and it costs about ₹50,000 to ₹1,00,000, depending on the deposit amount.

Miscellaneous Costs : Tolls, food, and other incidentals will add up. Keep an additional budget of ₹30,000 to ₹40,000 for unforeseen expenses.

In total, expect to budget between ₹1.5 to ₹2.5 lakh for the entire trip.

Essential Licenses and Permits for Road Trip from India to Singapore

Essential Licenses and Permits

This is the part where planning is crucial. Driving across multiple countries means you’ll need several documents and permits to make sure your journey is smooth. Here’s what you need:

Carnet de Passage : This is a must-have for your vehicle. Think of it as a passport for your car, allowing you to temporarily import it into other countries without paying hefty customs duties. You can get the Carnet de Passage through the Automobile Association of India (AAI). Make sure you apply for this at least a month before your trip.

International Driving Permit (IDP) : Required in countries like Myanmar, Thailand, and Malaysia. You can get your IDP from your local RTO in India. It’s essential, even if you have a valid Indian driving license.

Vehicle Registration and Insurance : Your car’s registration papers and valid insurance documents are required. You should also get third-party insurance for Myanmar and Thailand, which can be purchased at the border.

Visas : You’ll need visas for each country. Most are available as eVisas or visas on arrival, but make sure to double-check each country’s entry requirements beforehand.

Essentials for the Road Trip india to singapore

What to Pack: Essentials for the Road Trip

Packing smart is crucial for such a long trip. Here’s a list of essentials to ensure you’re well-prepared:

Documents :

  • Passport and multiple copies.
  • Carnet de Passage.
  • IDP and vehicle registration papers.
  • Visas for each country.
  • Health and vehicle insurance papers.

Vehicle Essentials :

  • Portable tire inflator and extra tire.
  • Spare fuel cans (particularly for Myanmar, where fuel stations are scarce in some parts).
  • Toolkit for emergency repairs.
  • First aid kits

Gadgets and Navigation :

  • GPS device or maps app downloaded offline.
  • Power bank and extra phone chargers.
  • Local SIM cards (get them at the borders of Myanmar and Thailand).
  • Pack light but bring comfortable clothes for driving.
  • Carry clothing for both hot and cold climates, as you’ll be passing through different terrains and weather conditions.

Snacks and Water :

  • Stock up on water and dry snacks for the stretches where you won’t find rest stops for hours.

Other Tips and Important Information

Tolls and Fuel Stops : Fuel up whenever you find a station, especially in Myanmar and rural parts of Thailand. Keep some local cash handy for tolls, which are common in Thailand and Malaysia.

Cash and Cards : Carry some cash in local currencies for each country, as not every place accepts cards. However, a good international credit card can be your best friend for larger expenses like fuel or hotel stays.

Travel Insurance : Don’t forget to buy travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and vehicle mishaps across international borders.

Crossing Borders : Plan for some delays at borders, particularly the Thailand-Myanmar and Malaysia-Thailand crossings. Border formalities can take a few hours, so pack your patience!

Final Thoughts: Is the Journey Worth It?

A road trip from India to Singapore is the kind of adventure that stays with you for a lifetime. From navigating through scenic mountain passes in Myanmar to enjoying the bustling city life in Bangkok, and finally driving across the Johor Causeway into Singapore, every part of the journey will offer something unique.

Yes, it requires a lot of planning and some serious paperwork, but the freedom of having your car and being able to explore at your own pace is worth every bit of effort. So buckle up, plan wisely, and enjoy the open road! If you are planning your first international road trip then you “ 4 best things you must know ” for your smoother journey.

Safe travels, and may your adventure be as smooth as your car’s engine!

I won’t suggest this road trip or any international road trip to someone who doesn’t have enough experience of having a long road trip because that’s very tiring and demands a lot. Instead, why don’t you try Delhi to Goa , Hyderabad to Goa , or Delhi to Leh Ladakh trips first and get some idea then plan your first international road trip.

How to plan a quick trip to Singapore from India?

Panchali Dey , TIMESOFINDIA.COM , TRAVEL TRENDS , SINGAPORE Created : Apr 29, 2022, 16:00 IST

singapore trip from india quora

Singapore is one of the most sought-after holiday destinations for Indian travellers, and rightly so. If you are also planning a visit to Singapore, here are the most important tips to get you rolling. With these expert tips, you can simply rest, sit back, and get ready for the trip of your lifetime.

Book your tickets

Before booking your flights, compare different flight options and their costs from various flight booking websites to get the best deal for yourself. You will find many flights flying from Chennai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and other major cities of India to Singapore. You can easily find economical airlines that will offer you the choice to book a round trip ticket, but with a cabin luggage only option. This is not a bad option if you pack wisely, and you also get the option of not waiting for your checked in luggage, which often takes more than half an hour of time.

Get Singapore Visa

Indians will require a visa to visit Singapore, which can be applied for online. Additionally, there are agents who are authorised to help you get it. Likewise, if you are applying for a visa in South India, the visa applications are processed from the Chennai Embassy; in North India, the applications are processed from the Delhi embassy.

Book your accommodation

Singapore will offer you several accommodation options, so it’s always better to book your stay ahead of your trip to save some bucks. It’s even better if you manage to choose a place of stay depending on what suits you, at least 3 months in advance, and get it online to get better deals. Do note, if you are travelling on a tight budget, or are travelling solo, you will find many hostels that come dirt cheap as low as INR 650 per night.

If possible, try to book your place of stay close to the attractions that you have bookmarked on your travel wish list, and close to a public transport like a MRT station.

What to pack?

Since Singapore features a hot and humid climate almost all year round, it’s advisable that you pack light clothes. Don’t forget to pack your camera and travel essentials that you must have. Plus, don’t miss packing your essential medicines for travel, as it will not be an easy task to procure a medicine there if required. In many cases, you will be advised to first visit a doctor, undergo thorough assessment, and then only you can get medicines via prescription.

Pre-book tickets to attractions

Most of the attractions in Singapore will require an entry ticket, which you can get online too. Prices are fixed, and it is advisable that you book them anytime before your trip to save time and avoid waiting in the queue at the entrance to get your ticket. Also, if you go for combo tickets, you will be surprised to see that they will come at prices lower than that compared to the individual tickets.

Scenic Singapore River Cruise, offering picturesque views of the city's attractions

When touring around Singapore at night , you must try the river cruise . It’s an easy and enjoyable way to see the city .

You can easily hop on a boat at Clarke Quay jetty . Once you’re on, you can just relax and watch the city’s famous spots pass by .

I’d recommend going in the evening when the buildings are all lit up – it’s really something special. Don’t forget to snap some photos; you’ll want to remember the views!

Secure your river cruise tickets here on the web ahead of time to avoid the queues , as it’s very popular with both locals and tourists.

f) Clarke Quay Riverside – 1 hour

Vibrant Clarke Quay Riverside, a hotspot for nightlife and dining in Singapore

As night falls, Clarke Quay Riverside becomes even more enchanting with its lights and lively atmosphere.

It’s the perfect time for a stroll along the river , where you can see boats and the city lights reflecting on the water.

There are many cafes and bars here , making it a nice place to have a drink or ice cream and watch the river .

Itinerary for Day 5: Explore Jurong Bird Park, visit Singapore Zoo, and experience the enchanting Night Safari

A Brief Insight into What Day 5 Holds in the Singapore Itinerary:

  • 8:50 AM: Take a Selfie at Mandai Wildlife West’s Waterfall
  • 9:00 AM: Bird Paradise
  • 1:00 PM: Having Lunch at Food Central
  • 2:00 PM: Singapore Zoo
  • 6:00 PM: Dinner at KFC or Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant
  • 7:15 PM: Night Safari Singapore

1. Take a Selfie at Mandai Wildlife West’s Waterfall – 10 minutes (8:50 AM to 9:00 AM)

Breathtaking waterfall at Mandai Wildlife West, set amidst lush greenery

When you’re visiting Mandai Wildlife West, make sure to take a selfie at the waterfall . It’s a really pretty place .

Just stand in front of the falling water, grab your phone, and take that picture . You’ll love looking back at it!

2. Bird Paradise – 4 hours (9:00 AM to 1:00 PM)

Exotic birds at Bird Paradise

When visiting Singapore, Bird Paradise should be on everyone’s itinerary. With over 3,500 birds , it’s a great place to see and learn about different bird species . Here’s what you can do:

  • Walk on Bird-Watching Trails: These paths are easy to walk on and great for seeing many kinds of birds. Bring a camera to take pictures of the colorful birds.
  • Feed the Birds: In the feeding area, you can get close to the birds and even feed them. It’s really fun and exciting when they eat from your hand.

Trust me, you’re going to love this bird park – it’s an experience you won’t regret!

Bird Paradise is a crowd favorite , and it’s advisable to secure your admission online for this bird park. By doing so, you’ll gain quick access and bypass the long queues .

3. Having Lunch at Food Central – 1 hour (1:00 PM to 2:00 PM)

Food Central court in Bird Paradise

After you finish touring around Bird Paradise, you can enjoy a delightful lunch at Food Central . It’s the ideal spot to relax and refuel.

At Food Central, you’ll find a range of tasty options, from local favorites like Hainanese chicken rice to various Western delights and more !

4. Singapore Zoo – 4 hours (2:00 PM to 6:00 PM)

White tigers, orangutans and meerkats at Singapore Zoo

Singapore Zoo is home to a big family of animals, more than 4,200 of them !

You’ve got to visit it to experience the wonders of wildlife from all around the globe . You can see large white tigers, playful orangutans, and meerkats standing tall on the lookout .

As you walk around, you’ll encounter all kinds of creatures, each living their unique way of life. And don’t miss the mandrill, whose bright colors are incredible to see up close.

Remember to take lots of pictures; it’s a fantastic place to create lasting memories.

5. Dinner at KFC or Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant – 1 hour (6:00 PM to 7:00 PM)

Rustic charm of Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant, offering a unique dining experience

For dinner, you can visit the KFC near the entrance of Singapore Zoo .

Alternatively, just a short walk away is the Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant located in the Night Safari , where you can enjoy a variety of dishes from local to international cuisine .

Try the Chicken Tandoori for SGD 14.90, Mutton Curry for SGD 13.90, or local favorites like Char Kway Teow and Laksa for SGD 12.90 each, Prawn Mee Soup for SGD 13.90, and the classic Chicken Rice for SGD 13.90.

6. Night Safari Singapore – 3 hours (7:15 PM to 10:15 PM)

Wildlife adventures at Night Safari

Night Safari Singapore is super special because it’s the world’s first nocturnal wildlife park , home to over 2,500 animals that come alive at night.

I suggest taking the tram ride first ; it’s a good way to see lots of animals quickly . You’ll spot lions, elephants, and more.

Then, take a stroll on the walking trails to see more animals up close in their habitats.

And don’t forget, to save some pocket money, book the discounted Night Safari tickets right here .

Personal Opinion:

My itinerary didn’t include River Wonders Singapore , which is also located nearby Night Safari and Singapore Zoo. The reason is that I think this park is not as good as the three parks I recommended to you.

Getting to Singapore’s Wildlife Parks

Mandai Shuttle Bus

To visit Singapore’s Wildlife Parks affordably, take the MRT to Khatib Station and exit at Exit A .

From there, catch the Mandai Khatib Shuttle , which costs SGD 2 per trip and runs every 10 to 20 minutes .

This shuttle offers a loop service from Khatib Station to Bird Paradise, Singapore Zoo, River Wonders, and Night Safari .

Services begin at 8:00 AM from Khatib and the last shuttle from the parks is at 12:00 AM midnight .

Return Trip:

For your return trip, take the shuttle to Khatib Station and then board the MRT to your hotel.

The shuttle doesn’t take cash ; instead, use an EZ-Link or NETS FlashPay card . Purchase these from Changi MRT Station or shops like 7-Eleven, Buzz, and Cheers. These cards also work for MRT and public bus.

Getting Around:

To get around the wildlife parks , including Mandai Wildlife West, Bird Paradise, Singapore Zoo, and Night Safari, you can use the Mandai Khatib Shuttle at no extra cost .

Individual Tickets vs. Singapore Multi-Attraction Pass

I recommend getting the Singapore Multi-Attraction Pass for visiting attractions, as it offers significant savings .

For example, if you visit the attractions I’ve listed above, the total cost with separate tickets would be SGD 399.60 .

However, with the 10-Attraction Pass , it’s only SGD 306 , saving you SGD 93.60 per person . For two people, the savings increase to a total of SGD 187.20.

The pass provides access to up to 36 attractions in Singapore . Options include a 2-Attraction Pass, 3-Attraction Pass, and more , with prices starting at only SGD 77.40 !

Visit the link below to find out about the attractions covered by the pass and to help you save more on your trip!

  • Check out Singapore Multi-Attraction Pass here

Singapore Map

To simplify itinerary planning for Singapore, I’ve marked all the top tourist spots and nearby MRT stations on the map above . Hopefully, this will save you time when planning your trip .

Orchard and Clarke Quay

No matter how many days you plan to stay in Singapore, I highly suggest that you stay in Orchard or Clarke Quay area .

These locations are ideal because of their proximity to many major tourist spots . Below are my most recommended hotels.

  • YOTEL Singapore (Orchard) : If you want a place that is close to Orchard MRT Station, this is the best choice. The area is also surrounded by many eateries.
  • Holiday Inn Express (Orchard) : Just opposite of Orchard Street, the hotel is ideal for shopaholics. In addition, it is easily accessible to Orchard and Somerset MRT Stations.
  • Park Regis Singapore (Clarke Quay) : For those who want to be very near Clarke Quay MRT Station, choose this hotel. There are plenty of nearby restaurants as well.
  • Holiday Inn Express (Clarke Quay) : This place is highly recommended if you want to be very near the riverside of Clarke Quay. Situated close to Park Regis Hotel, the area is bounded by many cafes and bars along the riverside. It is a nice spot to stroll around and relax, especially at nighttime.

Singapore’s MRT system is very superb as it can take you to almost any location in the country.

And to help you get around Singapore like a pro, here are some important tips you can use as a reference.

1. NETS FlashPay Card

Singapore MRT Card, NETS FlashPay card

If you’re spending several days in Singapore, having a NETS FlashPay card is advisable. This multi-purpose stored value card allows you to travel via MRT and buses easily .

You just tap the card on a panel when you board and disembark from the MRT or buses.

The card can be purchased at MRT stations and convenience stores in the airport , such as 7-Eleven and Cheers.

Generally, the NETS FlashPay cards are priced at $12. This amount is already inclusive of $7 stored value.

2. Download the Singapore MRT and LRT Offline App

When searching for MRT routes in Singapore, I suggest using the “Singapore MRT and LRT Offline” App. This app provides the fastest routes and time durations.

Singapore Prepaid SIM Card

With this Singapore prepaid SIM card , you’ll have smooth internet access .

It offers 100 GB of data at high speed , 500 minutes of local calls , and 20 minutes for international calls .

I recommend buying at least one SIM card for easy navigation , especially for using Google Maps and checking attraction locations.

Is Bangkok your next destination? See this best itinerary for Bangkok in 5 days !

There are 4 ways to get to the city of Singapore from Changi Airport. These are via train, bus, taxi, and private airport transfer.

You can catch a train at Changi Airport MRT Station located in Terminals 2 and 3. If you arrive at Terminal 4, just take a free shuttle bus to Terminal 3.

For Terminals 1, 2, and 3, the bus stops are located at the basement bus bays. You can choose from the following bus numbers: 24, 27, 34, 36, 53, 110, and 858.

For Terminal 4, go to the bus stop next to Car Park 4B. From there, you can select from a variety of bus options, including 24, 34, 36, and 110.

Taxis are also available for hire. You can find them at the taxi stands in the Arrival areas of Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. The travel duration from the airport to the city is about 30 minutes.

All fares are metered, and it will normally cost you around S$ 20 to S$ 40.

4. Private Airport Transfer

If you want less hassle, it’s suggested that you avail of the private airport transfer. This is actually the easiest way to reach the city centre because it offers door-to-door service.

Plus, it provides a 24-hour transfer service from Singapore airport.

So, if you want to be transported directly to your hotel, this is the best option. You can check the private airport transfer price here .

My Singapore travel itinerary for a 5-day adventure in the Lion City has come to an end. I hope you have a wonderful trip to this amazing country.

Singapore Travel Guide by Isha For Indians | An adventurous trip with siblings

Singapore Travel Guide

Fun-Packed trip to Singapore -I had never imagined I would go on a foreign trip with my younger siblings, more so, an instant trip. So, after browsing through a lot of destinations, Singapore it was!

This was also my last trip before the pandemic struck in 2020. Sigh! let’s read on

Too excited to go on a vacation without our parents, the three of us started planning for this trip. Being the eldest one and with experience of planning my Europe trips, I was responsible for travel and stay bookings while the other two got into shortlisting the activities and places we would visit. [Check out our detailed blog on Singapore travel for Indians].

If you are in a hurry, here is what our itinerary looked like-

Day 1 – Arrival, Jewel Changi Airport, Old Hill street police station, Clarke Quay

Day 2 – Sentosa Island, China Town street

Day 3 – Orchard Link, Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, Little India

Day 4 – Universal Studios Singapore

Day 5 – Return journey to Mumbai, India

Day 1- Arrival and Sight-seeing

On 6th December 2019, we set to begin the much-awaited trip as we took a 1:35 AM [IST] Indigo flight from Mumbai. This 6-hour journey came to an end as we landed in Singapore at 10 AM [local time]. The first thing we did there was buy one local SIM card before moving on to look around the spectacular Jewel Changi Airport – a beautiful indoor waterfall and all the Christmas decorations around.

We then boarded a train from the airport, towards our hostel 5footway.inn Project Ann Siang , near China Town. We had planned to stay 2 nights at a hostel and 2 nights at a hotel, to get both the experiences. After reaching the hostel, we rested for a bit and headed outside to explore the town on foot.

Before coming to Singapore, I had looked up some picturesque locations and was fascinated by the Old Hill Street Police Station. Hence, we went to the location on the first day, to get some really cool pictures clicked.

As it started to become dark, we stopped by Clarke Quay, stunned at how beautiful and calming it looked with all the lights at night. The place was bustling with people partying and taking boat rides. We concluded our first day with dinner at Pizza Hut and walked all the way back to our hostel, observing this beautiful place at night.

Day 2- Sentosa Island

The next day was the most exciting one as we were off to Sentosa Island. We took a cable car from the Sentosa Station Vivo City to Sentosa Island and started this super fun day. One of the first activities we did there was the Skyline Luge, followed by a simulated skydiving experience at I-Fly that my brother did and enjoyed thoroughly. Thanks to my slip-disc, I couldn’t do some of the most exciting activities there.

The entire route at Sentosa Island is really beautiful and it’s fun to even just keep walking there. Our next stop was Aj Hackett, for a top view of Sentosa through the glass bridge, before moving on to the S.E.A aquarium where we saw some beautiful sea creatures and watched a rather fascinating show where the experts dived into the water to feed the big fish. After having some more fun at the Trick-Eye museum and exploring other thrilling things around, our day at Sentosa came to an end as we sat by the beach to relax.

We had our dinner that day at the China Town Food Street and shopped for some souvenirs at China Town before heading back to the hostel.

Day 3- The most adventurous day

Marina Bay Sands

Day 3 started as we checked out of the hostel and shifted to Hotel Boss at Jalan Sultan Road. After settling in, we stepped out and moved towards Orchard Link, by bus. We went around the street and mall, window shopping and clicking pictures amidst all the beautiful decorations.

Next on our itinerary was the Merlion. We sat by this tourist spot for a while and had some refreshing bubble tea. This was followed by a bus ride to the Marina Bay sands, to visit the top. While the view of the city and ‘Gardens By The Bay’ was spectacular, there was nothing more special to be experienced up there.

Gardens By The Bay

We then moved towards ‘Gardens By The Bay’ a little late in the day, so we could watch it lit up in the dark. On entering, we first headed to the cloud forest. The experience there was so refreshing and serene. This indoor garden is a treat to the eyes and you enjoy even more as the temperature inside gives you a feeling that you are up on the mountains and amidst the clouds. You can click some amazing pictures and learn so much about rare plants. One should not miss this breath-taking view when visiting Singapore.

Next, we entered the flower dome which was another spectacular sight. The colorful and rare flowers surely left us feeling joyful. It was now dark outside and time to watch the Gardens by the Bay all lit up and gorgeous.

Tired and drained, we walked out for the train station and were headed towards Little India for some Indian dinner.

Little India

I must admit, after spending 3 days in Singapore, it was a shock as we came out of the train station in little India. The street was filled with people, walking everywhere, and a huge number of people were gathered at the bus station nearby.

It actually felt like we were in India, on the over-crowded streets, with people speaking in different Indian languages. While exploring the street further, we witnessed a lot of things (good as well as unpleasant) including delicious Indian food shops, littered streets, fruit and vegetable vendors speaking in Hindi.

Ending this super tiring day, we had our dinner at an Indian restaurant on Dunlop Street before walking back to our Hotel.

Day 4- Universal Studios

Wohuuu.. Universal Studios day!! Ever since my childhood, I saw Universal Studios in pictures and always thought that I might never get to actually visit there. But here we were!

It was a slightly gloomy day and started raining as we were on our way to Universal Studios. With this, we thought that our entire day was ruined. However, as we entered there, it was just drizzling. We were still too excited to care about the rains. So, we started this fun-filled day at the Universal Studios, going through each attraction and some exciting rides, one by one.

Our plan was to visit here on a weekday so as to avoid the weekend crowd. However, we still had to take express tickets for one or two popular rides. If you do not purchase an express pass in the beginning, you can buy one for individual rides at the counters inside too.

While the entire experience here was a very delightful one, the one thing we enjoyed the most was the Water show. This was hands-down the best experience and one should definitely go for it- not going to give any spoilers :). The other extremely fun ride was ‘Transformers’ and should not be missed at any cost.

After spending the entire day at Universal Studios Singapore, we headed back to our hotel. It was almost the end of this marvellous trip.

Day 5- The eventful return journey

We checked out on Day 5 and were off to the airport for our flight back to Mumbai! Much to our surprise, there was some technical issue at the airport and most systems (especially at the Indigo airlines counter) were down. Everything, including boarding and take-off, was delayed as operators sat down to create boarding passes manually. This was a first; receiving handwritten boarding passes.

Tips to plan your travel to Singapore

  • Ideal Time to visit – You can visit Singapore any time of the year, however, we visited in the month of December and were greeted with occasional rain. Overall, the temperature was hot to moderate, and humid. Plan a trip for at least 5 days to enjoy the beauty of Singapore thoroughly.
  • Food – If you are a non-vegetarian, you will have plenty of options, especially at the China Town food street. There are enough restaurant options for Vegetarians too. Must try- Noodles and Bubble Iced Tea
  • Stay – Having stayed at both a hostel and a hotel on the same trip, I would personally recommend staying at a hotel. You can choose a budget-friendly hotel as there are many options. Hostel 5 Footway.inn Project Ann Siang was decent enough but the rooms we got were extremely small and without any windows for ventilation. There was no lift or anyone to help with the luggage as you go up and down 2 floors through a really narrow staircase. On the other hand, we had an amazing experience at Hotel Boss with top facilities and great hospitality.
  • Travel – Singapore is connected through a good train network (the MRT). It is a convenient and affordable mode to travel from one destination to the other. To reach Sentosa Island/ Universal Studios, you can also avail of cable cars from a few of the stations. Use the ‘Citymapper’ app for accurate routes and transport options + timings
  • Offbeat Places to visit – -Old Hill Street Police station is a great location to click some beautiful pictures in front of the colorful building. -Sit and relax in the garden by the skate park, near Orchard Link. -Narrow streets in China Town, for some cheap souvenirs.
  • Bookings – Klook.com is a good website/ app to book your tickets for all the attractions in Singapore while availing certain discounts on current/ next bookings. We booked our entry passes for Gardens By The Bay, Sentosa Island, and Universal Studios through the Klook app. Our hostel booking was done through Hostelworld, while we booked our Hotel on Booking.com.

This trip was a unique one for me as it was my first trip with just my siblings (and the first international trip for one of them). Singapore is a perfect destination for a fun-filled vacation, with a number of places for sightseeing, amusement parks, and really beautiful attractions that please the eyes and mind.

People here are friendly and generous. You might also have a candid conversation with one of the cab drivers who will happily tell you how proud he is to be living in Singapore. You feel safe at most places, even at night.

So, pack your bags and plan your next trip to Singapore. Hope my travel experience helps you plan your trip. You can reach out to me for any additional queries or tips :)

I Went On A Solo Trip To Singapore Under ₹40,000 Including Flights, Stay, And Food

I Went On A Solo Trip To Singapore Under ₹40,000 Including Flights, Stay, And Food

Affectionately known as the ‘Lion City’ and ‘Garden City’, Singapore is a sovereign island country that is so much more than the sum of its innumerable attractions. There is no place like it! This vibrant Asian destination boasts a splendid blend of Malaysian, Indian, Chinese, Arab, and English cultures, of course with the Singaporean twist. This is the place where foodies, explorers, adventure seekers, culture shapers, and socializers meet. I went there as a solo backpacker and undoubtedly, was left with unlimited jaw-dropping experiences. The delightful culinary experiences, state-of-the-art accommodations, and exciting nightlife here are exactly what globetrotters yearn for.

Singapore is a small country, but still, there is so much to see. My travel guide comprises travel tips to help you plan your solo trip to Singapore.

Sentosa Island

The sunny island of Singapore, Sentosa Island is popular for its serene beaches and a dizzying array of attractions including the world-famous Universal Studios. There are over 30 tourist attractions on this lush green island and some of my favourite ones include iFly Singapore, Fort Siloso, Palawan Beach, Siloso Beach, Tanjong Beach, and Scentopia. There are a number of adventure activities available here thus bringing all of the thrill, skill, and mega chill! Entry to the island is free of cost and it is a whole day trip. However, there are charges for certain attractions and activities.

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Nancy Johri (@strolling_shoes)

iFly Singapore

Price: SGD 109 (₹6,200 for 2 dives)

Located on Sentosa Island, iFly Singapore is one of the world’s largest indoor skydiving wind tunnels. It spans 16.5 feet wide and 56.5 feet tall, almost five storeys high. Here, I experienced true free-fall conditions (just like a real skydive!) in a vertical wind tunnel. The time it takes for each skydive is like falling through the air from 12,000 to 3,000 feet! With an 18-feet tall acrylic glass wall, the wind tunnel offers a spectacular view of the South China Sea. I grabbed the chance to really fly via this simulated skydiving experience in Singapore.

Gardens By The Bay

Ticket price for OCBC Skyway: SGD 10 (₹600)

This horticultural treasure trove is set in the heart of Singapore’s downtown. Home to a diverse collection of more than 1.5 million plants, this mythical enchanted forest has plants from every continent except Antarctica. There are different types of attractions here such as Cloud Forest, Flower Dome, Floral Fantasy, Supertree Observatory, etc. I chose to explore OCBC Skyway, which is a 128-meter-long aerial walkway suspended between two Supertrees at 22 meters above the ground. The highlight of this place is Garden Rhapsody, which is the one-hour-long signature light and sound show. The best part is that it’s free of cost!

Marina Bay Sands

If you appreciate luxury, visit Marina Bay Sands to experience it in the truest sense. This gigantic marvel comprises three 55-story hotel towers! Speaking of extravagance, the lavish suites and hotel rooms are indescribable. However, anyone can enter this architectural wonder absolutely free of cost, irrespective of whether you are staying there or not. If you like playing cards, then there is a huge casino for you as well, where you can enter for free. I know nothing about casinos but I went there anyway to simply experience it and it was totally worth it!

However, there is an admission fee for the Observation Deck. Don’t forget to enjoy exclusive food and drinks at its restaurant and rooftop bar when you are up there.

Clarke Quay

Clarke Quay which is popular for its stunning waterside restaurants is the best place to enjoy the nightlife in Singapore. When the sun goes down, the bars and clubs begin their live music sessions. Flowing at the heart of Clarke Quay, the Singapore River provides the central artery for its happening nightlife. You can also go for boat tours up and down the entire length of the river. Nearby attractions include The Asians Civilisations Museum, Statues of Sir Stamford Raffles, Fort Canning Park, Hong San See Temple, and many more. The gorgeous Clarke Quay is a must-visit in Singapore at night.

An ideal blend of old and new, Chinatown in Singapore is popular for its historic temples and traditional medicinal halls as well as bold new bars and trendy lifestyle shops. My hostel was located here, so I got ample time to explore the entire place. The shops selling souvenirs are unlimited here. And so are the restaurants! The heritage of Singapore, which was once an enclave for the country’s Chinese immigrant population, is frequented by backpackers like me who want to explore the tapestry of cultural diversity.

Big Bus Tour

Ticket price: SGD 47 (₹2,700 for 2 days)

Valid for two days, this hop-on hop-off bus is the perfect way to explore all the tourist attractions in Singapore. In addition to that, you can see a lot from this fully guided open-top, double-decker bus with free Wi-Fi. Singapore’s soaring skyscrapers, contemporary shopping malls, traditional temples, markets, and historic colonial sites will swoon you over. Its route covers all the major tourist attractions along with Botanical Gardens, Little India, Arab Street, Boat Quay, Sultan Mosque, and many more. Join the popular night tour and watch the setting sun along the city skyline.

How Much Did My Solo Trip To Singapore Cost?

Accommodation:

₹1,500 per night at these hostels:

  • Chic Capsule Otel
  • Backpackers SG

Round trip flights: ₹20,000

Entry tickets  : ₹9,500

Including conveyance, food, shopping, I spent around  ₹ 40,000 on this trip, without compromising on my comfort and safety at all.

Just 31 miles wide and 17 miles long, you can get around the entire place easily via the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) or Singapore Tourist Pass.

Planning Your Singapore Adventure

Planning your Singapore itinerary in advance can help you add a lot of exquisite activities to the list. Here are a few activities that can make your Singapore expedition all the more special.

A.  Deciding Your Budget and Travel Style: Luxury vs Budget Explorations

When planning a Singapore itinerary , the key decision is whether you want a luxurious adventure or a budget-friendly exploration.
