Hit three of Central Europe’s big cities; Prague, Vienna and Budapest. Better yet, enjoy an orientation walk in each city to take in all of the sights, find the best spots and learn the little-known facts about these mesmerizing cities.

Immerse yourself in the history and culture in the Czech Republic’s capital city of Prague. Experience Prague Castle – the largest castle complex in the world – and be awed by its 9th century architecture.

Join a local guide in the south Bohemian town of Cesky Krumlov and learn about the town’s history and thriving folk-culture. Afterall, there’s no one better to show you around than the people that live there.

Be treated to sweet delicacies just like grandma would make at Vollpension café in Vienna, where elderly grandparents bake the best cakes and share the best hospitality with their visitors. More than just a cafe, the team here are working to bridge the age gap and provide extra income for seniors.

Toast to your epic adventure with a 3-course, home-cooked, Hungarian feast on your final evening, prepared especially for you and your new-found travel companions by a local chef.

Show Full Itinerary

Vítejte v Praze! Welcome to Prague, the City of a Hundred Spires and the capital of the Czech Republic. Meet your new travel buddies and group leader at 6 pm then enjoy a special welcome dinner together. Tuck into a delicious meal at a Czech pub, where you’ll enjoy traditional food like sausages, dumplings and salads, and fresh, crisp beer straight from the tank – just like a local. By the way, did you know that the beer in the Czech Republic has three colours? Gold, amber and black – we recommend you try them all to see which one you like best.

Head to Prague Castle this morning and spend time exploring the Old Royal Palace, St Vitus’ Cathedral, St George’s Basilica and the colourful Golden Lane. Then, the rest of the day is free to do as you wish. You could wander the countless museums, or stroll the cobblestone streets, perhaps, café-hopping as you go. In the evening, maybe grab dinner with your new travel buds or otherwise hit the town solo. Your leader will have some great recommendations, no matter what you feel like.

Depart Prague today and travel by local bus to the southern Bohemian town of Cesky Krumlov. This picturesque medieval town dates back to the 13th century and is like something out of a fairy-tale. Cesky Krumlov (pronounced 'Chess-kee Kroom-love') means 'crooked meadow', which is befitting of a town that's nestled in a sharp bend of the Vltava River. Today, join a local guide for a walking tour of the town and hear tales of the mysteries that lie behind every shopfront and house on the crooked little streets. Later you might like to visit the town's castle or art gallery, or head out on an optional cycling or canoeing excursion.

Depart Cesky Krumlov by private minivan this morning and cross the border into Austria, continuing to the cosmopolitan city of Vienna. Join your leader for a walk through the city's compact centre. Stop at the gothic-style St Stephens Cathedral, wander past the grand neo-classical Graben and onwards to the Hofburg Palace. Stop by Vollpension, where you can be treated to sweet eats just like your grandma made. This café aims to bridge the generation gap and bring people together through food by employing baking masters who happen to be ‘grandmas and grandpas’ to bake the freshest cakes in all of Vienna. Then, finish your orientation of the city at the State Opera House, one of the world's most important opera houses and the heart of classical Viennese culture. Art lovers have a vast choice of museums, from the Albertina to those located in the Museum Quarter. In the evening, perhaps head out for some Viennese cuisine.

Wake up without an alarm today as you have the whole of today to explore Vienna and its surrounds at your leisure. You might like to head out to Schoenbrunn for a guided audio tour of the summer palace, designed by Empress Maria Theresa. The Gloriette Monument has incredible views of Vienna and the palace gardens are free to all visitors, although there is a charge for entrance and tours of the palace. Vienna is a beautiful city, so try to capture its essence as best you can while you're here.

Today, you’ll take a scenic train journey across the border into Hungary to reach Budapest. Since the collapse of Communism, Budapest has experienced something of a renaissance. On arrival, enjoy an orientation walk with your leader to explore some of the most interesting sights. See the Hungarian State Opera House, St. Stephen's Church and The Chain Bridge. The grand architecture and boulevards evoke a time gone by, while glamorous stores and glitzy restaurants make this one of the truly great cities of Europe. You’ll enjoy views of the Freedom Statute and the Citadel, Gellért spa baths and Buda castle along your walk today. Afterwards, one unmissable activity you might like to partake in is a soak in Budapest's hot thermal baths. The pools vary in temperature, and some even feature whirlpools or seats where you can enjoy a game of chess. This evening is free to enjoy as you please.

Today is free for you to enjoy everything Budapest has to offer. It's the spa capital of the world so if you want to do nothing more than soak all day, you won't be judged here. Otherwise, the architecture around the city is simply unbelievable and a stroll past the Danube Palace, Parliament and many churches along the river is well worth it. In the evening, get ready for a feast for the senses with a 3-course Hungarian dinner cooked especially for you by a private chef. The perfect way to end your epic trip, over chicken paprikash and Gerbeaud cake you can toast to your new friends, great food and unforgettable adventures.

Your adventure comes to an end today. There are no more activities planned and you're able to depart the accommodation at any time. As there's not much time in Budapest, it's recommended that you stay an extra few nights so you can truly experience this beautiful city. If you need help booking additional accommodation, our reservations team can help (subject to availability).

Europe Tour Selection Trips

  • River cruises  are an appealing way to tour Europe in a relaxed mode that offers sightseeing in both atmospheric villages and big cities.
  • Europe is about more than high culture; active Europe tours include cycling in Greece, hiking in the French or Swiss Alps, even walking across England.
  • Point-to-point walking or cycling tours through the countryside are a great way to meet locals along trails, in pubs, or in small town settings.
  • For the truly adventurous, consider tours that include running with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain; “mud walking” in Holland; or glacier walking in  Switzerland .
  • The “If It’s Tuesday, It Must Be Belgium” rush-rush-through-seven countries-in-a- week bus tours are mostly passé; consider focusing on one or just a few countries at a time.
  • Spain-Portugal; Denmark-Sweden-Norway; Czech Republic-Austria-Hungary; and Belgium-Netherlands are among those countries that make for nice regional tours.
  • While you can see something of Europe in a week, allowing at least ten days to two weeks for one to three countries is more satisfying.
  • Don’t be too concerned with language barriers when booking your tour, since many Europeans now speak English, and your guides can translate when necessary.
  • Many Europeans go on vacation for the entire month of August, so visiting in September or October can be ideal; the weather is cooler, too.

Additional details

Traveling to  Europe  - ETIAS

Europe is implimenting a new travel authorization system that American travelers will need to enter into Europe’s EU and Schengen Zone.  ETIAS, which stands for EU Travel Information and Authorisation System,  will charge a fee and check security credentials for travelers visiting for business, tourism, medical or transit purposes.

ETIAS won’t be required until 2022 but there will be a six month grace period  which means travelers won’t be required to have approval until 2023.

Read more about traveling to Europe and what the ETIAS means for American travelers.

New Update -  Europe  Ban

As of July 1, 2020 the European Union has opened their borders to tourists from 15 different countries.

The reopening plan was based on health criteria, and ultimately officials decided to leave the U.S. off the list. The list of countries allowed to enter Europe will be reviewed every two weeks to keep up with the changing reality of coronavirus outbreaks.

Here is the full list of countries that the European Union has opened up to:

  • New Zealand
  • South Korea

Where does the language barrier matter?

One of the most fascinating qualities of Europe is the way that countries so close together, with so much interaction, have maintained strong individuality. This manifests in culture, customs, and of course - language. There are 24 official languages in the EU, but countries both in the Union and outside it often have their own official languages.

Because of this, if you are planning a trip around Europe - you will likely run into a situation where you cannot speak the local language. Don’t worry! Most Europeans can speak more than two languages, and in Western Europe, as well as capital cities, this means many Europeans speak English.

Eastern Europe & Russia

One common concern when traveling to Europe is that there is very little English spoken in Eastern Europe -- this is, however, rapidly changing. As the popularity of destinations like Budapest , Prague , Riga , and Krakow continues to boom, many more young people there are becoming fluent in English.

There are, however, several places where English speakers are a little harder to come by. Four countries where English speakers are uncommon include:

Russia (with the exception of St. Petersburg)

Rural Spain

As can be expected, there are also countries with specific regional dialects. This is unlikely to be a problem -- but it is something good to be prepared for! For example, even if you are fluent in French, you might not be able to understand Alsatian (spoken in the Alsace region of region, including the city Strasbourg ) or Catalan (spoken in the southwestern corner of  France).

Best Winter Family European Vacations

A winter vacation to Europe is a timeless and magical experience, especially when the trip is shared with loved ones. Here are three of the best locations to keep in mind for when you’re planning your next trip for you and your family.

1.   Zermatt, Switzerland Take an alpine tour of Europe to this picturesque town is nestled between the sharp and dramatic mountains. Not only this, but it is at the base of one the Alps’ most famous peaks: the Matterhorn.

Enthusiastic climbers, skiers, and snowboarders will thrill in some of the best skiing Europe has to offer. Afterwards, head back to your chalet and tuck into a steaming mug of Swiss hot chocolate before heading out for a traditional fondue dinner.

2.   St. Petersburg, Russia One of the most popular cities to visit throughout the year, visitors come to St. Petersburg in the winter to beat the crowds and experience a genuine Russian snow. You will be stunned by the sight of the frozen Neva river, and snow piling on the arches of the St. Nicholas cathedral.

When things get too chilly outdoors, take a well earned break by visiting the infamous Russian ballet and opera, or take an educational tour of the Hermitage museum inside of the Winter Palace.

3.   Canary Islands, Spain For families looking to escape the cold, Europe is still a great destination. Consider the Canary Islands, which are located off the coast of West Africa, and are favored with sunbathing weather all year round.

With opportunities to go hiking, jetski, waterski, surf, even sandboard off Gran Canaria’s massive, Sahara-like sand dunes, there are countless ways to have active fun. At night, indulge in the island’s unique cuisine.

Flying to Europe

What with the introduction of so many new budget airlines, many travelers are curious about new flight options to, and around, the continent. With fuel costs low, and the value of the dollar on the rise, trips to Europe are cheaper for Americans than ever before. This interest is increased by the fact that many vacation packages do not include flights, and it is still necessary to book your own.

Airlines like Ryanair travel within the continent very cheaply, but be prepared to forgo checking in, and airplane tray tables, much less built in TV’s. These budget airlines also have stringent and unique restrictions. For example, Ryanair requires that you check in before arriving at the airport, or you will lose your ticket. Another downside to "flying budget" is that customer service can be very difficult to obtain with these no-frills airlines, and cancellations without any recourse are also relatively common.

If you aren't willing to risk a budget airline, there are still ways to find cheap flights. One good tip is to look airlines fly out of cities that serve as a hub (an example in the U.S. would be the Atlanta airport). Whether you are flying for a Europe tour from the USA, or India, flights from these airports are usually lower in price.

One of the best experiences that me and my husband had during our trip in Europe. We were in Croatia and our tour guide picked up us from there to start the tour and ended the tour in Athens. Everything was organized in perfect way, accomodations and everything else. We enjoyed our time all thanks to our tour guide who was very friendly and professional.

Good hotel very good breakfast. Tour guide needs consideration that not everyone is 30 years old., needs to slow down little bit specially when arriving in the city that is raining, dark, tired from driving all day. Need to give us options if you are tired can eat dinner @ the hotel instead taking us out to a restaurant with lots of walking.

Our guide Marty was simply the best as was our driver Kris who made traveling throughout Eastern Europe easy! Hotels were spotlessly clean - basic but we were quite comfortable and happy. Amazing group of fellow travelers - we had loads of fun. We would do another tour with Marty and Kris anytime. We saw so many amazing towns, cities, countries and sights - thank goodness we have photos to remind us of it all.

From East to West ( 11 days )

For the most part the tour was excellent, but started to fall apart when we reached Paris. We changed our tour leader and our group was split into 2 groups, leaving some of us not getting what we had been led to believe by our previous leader. Of the two groups one leader, Israel bent over backwards to get us the tours we had expected to be offered, but the other leader, Patricia? was completely unhelpful, she told me that she didn’t care about my problem! When I told Patricia that I thought she was very unhelpful she became aggressive toward me by standing over me, puffing out her chest and glaring at me as she told me to “GET OFF MY BUS!” Anyway we did get off her bus and thankfully for Israel he got us the tour we wanted. Israel acted in a professional way, he was honest, proactive and above all, he was extremely helpful! Thank you Israel ????

Berlin and Imperial Capitals Tour

Berlin and Imperial Capitals

The bus was comfortable and the drivers skilled. Even better that the tour groups were smaller and buses not full; made for efficiency and comfort. Tour guides were variable but ok with Eric being the best one. Novotel in Budapest was the best of all accommodations with the other hotels variable in quality and beds; the Prague hotel needed updating. Only Novotel was located in the city center which is a huge plus. The other hotels were less convenient and required separate transportation. Breakfast was consistently good. However, the dining room supervisor for dinner and breakfast (same person) in the Alps hotel was rude and possibly racist as she treated my travel companion who is white, better than me who is Asian. The Indian contingent was particularly shocked at their treatment. Overall, the tour was a swift introduction to the places visited. It helped me decide as to which cities deserve return visits.

The Best of Eastern Europe Tour

The Best of Eastern Europe

This was a great tour made wonderful by our tour guide Zdenka. She knew these countries so well, she wanted us to see everything possible and she made it happen! Our bus driver, Gaspy, kept us safe and on time. Would recommend this tour, you learn so much and the countries visited were so beautiful and welcoming. This is the first time that Globus gave us a couple small, quirky new hotels that were not comfortable. Please Globus stick to regular hotels that have great staff. if the hotels are far from city center please give us transportation there and back on our afternoons off whenever possible.

Our tour director was Brian Ridley-He was amazing-such a wealth of knowledge, very friendly, flexible and accomodative.Made the tour even more pleasant because of that. We did the tour in September Started 16th September 2017 and finished on the 30th.Budapest to Vienna. Started off with a celebration dinner at the popular Gundel restaurant in Budapest, which was excellent.

What people love about Fully Guided Tours in Central Europe

Wonderful cities, well-organised, and great value. Shout out to our guide, Jacob, who was as informative and professional as you'd expect, but also adaptable when things out of his control were going wrong (traffic, weather, etc.) And the driver, Nathan, who was always helpful and reliable - almost like a second tour guide.
Saw so much in a short time! Ten countries in 15 days! Had a very busy schedule to accomplish all we did, but it was worth it. The activities were varied, with great optional excursions offered. This is my 5th tour with Expat Exlore ( through Tourradar) and it never faIls to amaze me how much value you get for your money.
