Sub Focus was very very good and the venue was great!

My friends and I had an amazing New Years eve!

I definitely recommend the O2 academy in Brixton for those of you who want a great night out. It's very spacious and there are lots of bars.

When I think back to Electric Daisy Carnival London 2013, there are a few performances which stand out in the otherwise quite hazy day - Sub Focus was one of them. Me and my younger brother, otherwise known as my partner in festivals and EDM-connisseuring, were pretty tired from a long day of dancing and drinking, and as two lone South Africans who knew only each other (and the gang of Scottish skinheads we had befriended), we were getting ready to catch the train home when we realized Sub Focus was about to play. Lo and behold, our energy was more than replenished once he came onstage. A high energy set with amazing lighting and visuals was more than enough to keep us grooving for the next hour or two. Everyone lost their minds at the newly released Tidal Wave, the climax of his set - but thankfully for me, a fan of his earlier work, he intermingled his newer tracks with his older, well-loved classics like Timewarp, Rock It and my personal favourite, Could This Be Real. A great way to end off our big day out in London town, and I can imagine it would be even better seeing him in a smaller and more intimate venue.

Although Sub Focus has been releasing records since 2003, he only really achieved well deserved but semi-mainstream success after his 2009 self-titled debut album was released. The English electronic music producer, known separately from his stage name as Nick Douwma, exploded on to the dance, electronic and drum and bass scene with tracks such as “Rock It / Follow the Light,” (which found its way onto the Top 40 UK singles chart) “Splash” and “Could This Be Real.” All of which are high energy, fast-paced thudding bass-ridden songs perfect for a night full of dancing.

I first saw Sub Focus at Reading Festival in 2010 in the NME tent; the perfect enclosed location to set a night-time atmosphere and to sufficiently squash the crowd into a sea of swaying and jumping dancers. Even on such a big stage at a relatively early time to perform, the entire audience never faltered in response to Sub Focus’s massive tunes. With every track, there was barely time to rest before heavy and fast beats dropped and everyone went wild. That was especially with the help of the MC constantly reminding us to “bounce, bounce, bounce” with every track – not that we needed his instructions!

More recently Sub Focus seems to have upped his game in terms of his own stage presence; relying more on his circular, sub speaker-esque lighting to create hype and ambience rather than his MCs. Plus, with his second album being named ‘Torus,’ this shape seems to be a pivotal element of Sub Focus’s independent identity or brand. This sense of identity is certainly more evident in his recent shows, one of which was a headline slot at Reading and Leeds Festival 2013, which demonstrated how his sound and Sub Focus as an artist, rather than just a producer, has developed.

The Worship North America Tour will see Sub Focus, Dimension, Culture Shock, and 1991 land in Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, and more.

Magic happens when some of the greatest artists in the drum and bass scene come together to form a collective, and that’s exactly what took place when Sub Focus , Dimension , Culture Shock , 1991 , MANT , and Oliver Winters formed Worship . Since its launch, this collective has released a plethora of tunes that have swept listeners into a state of DnB bliss while also seeing its members reach even greater heights with countless festival appearances and tours. Now, Worship is sparking fire once again with the news of their forthcoming tour of North America.

Worship North America is bringing Sub Focus, Dimension, Culture Shock, and 1991 along for the ride and is set to kick off on March 23 in Chicago . From there, the foursome will travel to Webster Hall in New York and History in Toronto before bringing the sound of drum and bass to South Florida for a show during Miami Music Week . After a brief stop in Denver , the second half of the tour will see these artists head to Los Angeles , Vancouver , Austin , and Dallas , before the final show takes place on April 8 at The Midway in San Francisco .

Whether you love the immersion found in the silky tunes from the minds of Sub Focus and Dimension , dig the powerful tracks that 1991 dropped on his debut album Odyssey , or the insane bootlegs and remixes Culture Shock has released – this tour is for you.
