The Association are a folk-rock band hailing from California, United States who formed in 1965. Since their debut in 1966 they have released nine studio albums and are known for being one of the most popular singles bands of the late 60’s.

The seeds of The Association were sewn with the meeting of Jules Alexander and Terry Kirkman in Hawaii in 1962. The two men were budding musicians and jammed together while they could, finding that they had genuine creative chemistry with each other. However, Alexander was in Hawaii while serving a stint in the Navy, and wasn’t going to be discharged until a year later. They made a pact to form a band together once Alexander was discharged, and a year later they made good on it, moving to Los Angeles together in the mid-1960’s. The first group they formed was called The Inner Tubes, which expanded into a thirteen piece band called The Men, notable for being the first act to call themselves a “Folk-Rock” band.

However after a spell as the house band at L.A’s legendary Troubadour venue, the band split up. Not to be deterred, Alexander and Kirkmen formed the first incarnation of The Association soon afterwards, and after five months of solid rehearsal time, they scored a regular slot playing live at Pasadena, California’s Icehouse club. They auditioned for a number of record labels and were finally signed to Valiant Records, who would release their first national hit “Along Comes Mary” in 1966. The song peaked at number 6 on the Billboard charts and led to the release of the band’s first album proper “And Then...Along Comes the Association”. The album didn’t set the charts alight, but their follow up single “Cherish” did exactly that.

The song was a number one smash hit, and the band spent the rest of the 1960’s as one of California’s premier hit-makers, with another number one hit in the form of 1967’s “Windy”. Ever since then the band could populate a large village with their past members but for most part, Alexander has stayed with the band, and helms them to this day. They might not have had the staying power that some of their peers had but they have a back catalogue that no-one could argue with, and a live show that can only come from over half a century of experience. For that, The Association comes highly recommended.

Live reviews

Sometimes there seems to be little rhyme and reason in the music business. There are many instances when incredibly talented and ingenious bands slip under the spotlight while atrocities manage to create a stir in the mass public. The Association is an example of one of the music industries conundrums. The group had originality, an outstanding sense of harmonization, an understanding of song construction and a persevering drive that outreached many of their contemporaries. While they sported several hit songs and had more than a substantial career, they never managed to hit the “big time” so to speak. At least comparative to many of the pop sensations culminating in the 60s. Perhaps the lost opportunity of properly reissuing their recordings on cd may have contributed to the fizzling out of the groups career; however, for those who first had the chance to hear the bands recordings did not easily give up on the group.

The song “Windy” was one of the first tracks from my early youth that I have a conscious memory of. In my opinion that song was just as good as a Beatles tune. Of course back then I was less clouded by the bias of persisting music trends and my social climate. The Association had a sound that instantly struck a chord with their audience. Like the Beach Boys their music was so open and relatable that it seemed to apply to almost everyone.

Not only were they skilled songwriters they were natural born musicians who had an incredible sense of chemistry. In fact they are still performing to this day and haven’t seemed to decline in quality in the slightest. The group has keen precision and a knack for controlling the audience. Their instrumentation is fairly modest, but they are always able to produce interesting sounds. At some of their shows they pull out a toy-like recorder, and showcase some of the most catchy melodies on it. However their strong-suit lies in their vocal performance. Everyone in the group has a voice of gold and they make things exciting switching between members for vocal leads. But the real charm of their music comes from their godly harmonizations. The Association are a classic act and though their career has unjustly been overshadowed they absolutely should not be missed.

I have wanted to see the Association forever. I can remember the first time I heard one of their songs in the mid-sixties when I joined the Navy. So, you can imagine how excited I was to get two tickets to see the band live at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas on Friday night, November 29, 2019.

Sadly, the show was absolutely miserable. The two remaining original members are tired and the keyboard, guitar, singer son of an original member does not look like he fits in. His mannerisms and hair style (plus a black fedora) are more appropriate for a small venue bar band. The amplification system, which was probably adequate years ago, is ineffective and out of date. The video introduction doesn't compare to others I have seen for same period artists. In short, the show fell far short of expectations.

The Association has an incredible music collection. In fact, the lead singer, mentioned that three Association songs are among the top 100 of all time as measured by Billboard. With that kind of a repertoire, I was really put off when they spent nearly ten minutes playing a set of covers from the 1983 movie, "The Big Chill." My guest and I did not buy tickets to hear the Association play other group's hits.

Summer of 66 was the summer of the Association, the Beatles, Mama and the Papas and others. This evening was 95 minutes of wonderful songs of that time. As you looked around you saw those who remember that time and those who were not alive for years to come. What was common was the joy that is in that music. You could see it in everyone’s face. This is not your high production show that so often passes for entertainment in Vegas. No this is music that hit everyone in the room in their soul. If they are coming near you do yourself a favor and go see the Association. I promise you will enjoy the evening and leave with joy in your soul.

We have seen several groups with names of groups of the 1960s/1970s. Many have one original member, but always you left wanting to hear the original sound of the group. Going to The Association concert you will leave having just heard the songs you love song correctly.

Lots of good songs. Probably played about 15, only 3 of which were not their big hits (even Walk Away Renee by another artist). All the singing and harmonies were on except a couple times Jim Yester (original member @ 78!) had some difficulty at the beginning hitting the high notes (improved as the show went on). They were funny in between the songs and the music was lively and tight. I would highly recommend them to those who remember good music from the late 60s. Two of the members are originals, one is the son of an original and a couple others had stints with the group in the 80s/90s. These guys can still perform and kick out great tunes!

The Association was AMAZING and I highly recommend their show. I would go again in a heart beat. They were really funny when talking about their past and demos that they've gotten and people they have performed with. Loved "Avocado" and the "Dubuque" song. Of course they played their famous songs: "Cherish", "Windy", "Along Comes Mary", "Never My Love" and so many more. They sounded the same and their harmony is amazing. The venue is also amazing.

Hi I hope you fellows read these. Is there anyway you can come to the Detroit area to do a show? Maybe you could hook up with Tommy James n the Shondells. They live in the area and you both have some outstanding tunes. Just a thought. But I grew up in my teens when you were popping off hits on the radio, and I really Love your band. Please come out if your able to.

All my best, Mary Solak.

Generally, the group played their songs well but lead singer Jim Yester has a difficult time hitting the notes he used to do with ease. I think he's a little to old to be singing lead. The music was nostalgic and brought back good memories of when music was great!

Although Larry Ramos passed away they are still worth spending my money to see. I saw them at the Metropolis in Arlington Heights and met them after their concert. It was probably the best concert of my life. Meeting the guys was just a bonus!

They were notoriously square in the Sixties, the pop sellout answer to "real" psychedelic and rock groups , but The Association was actually a very talented group of musicians with at least one visionary songwriter, a band capable of rocking out, crafting gentle adult contemporary ballads, or going full sunshine pop when necessary.

"Along Comes Mary" has gained a reputation as a clever drug song (it's unsure if that's true), and "Cherish" remains one of the era's most durable and romantic ballads. Their biggest recent exposure, however, has got to be in "Breaking Bad," where "Windy" served as the world's most ironic cold opening ever.

Claims to Fame

  • At the forefront of the folk movement's assimilation into California pop
  • A multi-instrumentalist band that also performed six-part harmonies live on stage
  • Experimented with psychedelic and protest music earlier than most pop groups
  • Created a lush adult contemporary sound that still contained a hipster's edge
  • Thought to have been one of the first bands to endorse marijuana on their hit "Along Comes Mary"
  • One of pop's all-time most romantic groups

Early Years

The Association began life as the thirteen-member (!) vocal group The Men, formed by Kirkman and Alexander as a response to what they saw as the timidity of large folk groups like The New Christy Minstrels. Keeping all those people on the same page proved to be difficult, and though they'd already become the house band at Los Angeles' influential Troubadour club, a heated argument led to six members walking out of the room. Originally planning to call themselves the Aristocrats, Kirkman's wife went to look the name up in a dictionary and instead came back with The Association, which seemed a better name.

A few ambitious singles flopped, but the b-side of a single called "Your Own Love" caught the ear of several deejays, and the song "Along Comes Mary" became a smash in 1966. Several follow-ups scored, some written by the band, some not: "Cherish," one of their most popular original ballads, was garnering massive crowd support at the Minstrels' shows, but Kirkman refused to let anyone but his band cut it. At the same time, the group experimented with the burgeoning psychedelic and protest movements, but these singles sold considerably worse than the ballads and breezy sunshiny pop hits like "Windy."

Later Years

As the Sixties progressed, the Association fell more and more out of favor with youth due to their AM radio sound and the fact that they didn't play their own instruments on those hit records (they were classically trained musicians, but their labels insisted on L.A.s famous Wrecking Crew of session men anyway). The death of founding member Brian Cole in 1973 was the final nail in the group's coffin, yet after a 1979 television special found them still in possession of the old magic, they began an Eighties touring comeback that continues—in various forms, with various members—today.

The Association Facts and Trivia

  • Other members have included: Bob Page [b. May 13, 1943): vocals, guitar
  • The group's 1968 hit "Windy" was composed by an outside writer about her freewheeling grandfather, and the lyrics changed
  • The vocal tracks on the Association's early hits were recorded at completely different studios than the music, an almost unheard-of practice at the time
  • The vocals on "Windy" were actually handled mainly by assorted people hanging around the studio, as the two leads had burned their voices out on multiple takes
  • Jim Yester has played with versions of the Modern Folk Quartet, The Four Preps, and The Lovin' Spoonful
  • They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2003.

Complete List Of  The Association Albums And Discography looks at an American pop band from California. Known for their tight vocal harmony and melodic pop sound, The Association was one of the leading bands of the 1960s, with a number of hit songs such as “Cherish,” “Windy,” and “Along Comes Mary.”

Formation and Early Success

The Association was formed in 1965 by the merging of two bands: The Men and The Inner Tubes. The original lineup consisted of Gary Alexander (guitar, vocals), Russ Giguere (vocals, percussion), Brian Cole (bass, vocals), Ted Bluechel Jr. (drums, vocals, guitar), Jim Yester (vocals, guitar), and Terry Kirkman (vocals, wind instruments). They first gained attention in the folk clubs of Los Angeles, quickly moving to electric instruments and a more pop-oriented sound.

The band’s breakthrough came with the song “Along Comes Mary,” which they performed at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. The song’s intricate vocal arrangements and catchy rhythm made it an instant hit, reaching number 7 on the Billboard chart. Their follow-up single, “Cherish,” became an even bigger hit, peaking at number 1 and cementing the band’s place in pop music history.

Mid to Late 1960s: Chart-Topping Hits

The Association’s first album, “And Then… Along Comes The Association,” was released in 1966 and was a success, with its innovative sound that fused folk-rock with lush orchestration. They followed this with a string of successful singles and albums, including “Renaissance” and “Insight Out.” The latter produced another number 1 hit with “Windy,” a song that captured the free-spirited optimism of the era.

Challenges and Changes

Despite their initial success, The Association faced challenges as the 1960s progressed. The music scene was rapidly changing, with the rise of harder rock and psychedelic music. The band attempted to adapt with their 1968 album “Birthday,” which embraced a more experimental sound, but it failed to achieve the commercial success of their earlier works.

Throughout the late 1960s and into the 1970s, The Association continued to tour and record, although they could not replicate the immense success of their earlier hits. Changes in the lineup also occurred, with Alexander leaving the band for a period and various other musicians coming and going.

1970s to Present: Enduring Presence

In the 1970s, The Association still enjoyed popularity on the touring circuit and even saw a brief resurgence with the minor hit “Darling Be Home Soon.” However, as the decade progressed, the band’s presence on the charts diminished.

Despite these commercial declines, The Association has never officially disbanded. They have continued to perform live, often as part of nostalgia tours with other 1960s acts. They experienced various line-up changes, with the deaths of original members, including Brian Cole in 1972.

Nelly Korda Cannonballs Into LPGA History With Win at The Chevron Championship

Juliana hung has record-setting first round at the ioa championship despite difficult conditions.

  • chevron-championship
  • Nelly Korda

the association tour history

THE WOODLANDS, Texas — A cannonball. That was how Nelly Korda celebrated her historic victory on Sunday at The Chevron Championship.

A well-executed leap into the lake on the left side of the 18th green at The Club at Carlton Woods after a hard-fought major test. A battle that saw her name permanently enshrined in greatness alongside some of the game’s most memorable legends who’ve hoisted the Dinah Shore Trophy.

It wasn’t an easy journey for Korda, who has dealt with injuries and setbacks and doubts since she won her first major title at the 2021 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. But it’s a road that she’s thankful she had to take because it led her to this moment in The Woodlands, Texas.

“In '21 I had an amazing year, got my first major at KPMG. Just a lot of doubt crept into my mind in 2022 and especially 2023,” said Korda. “I heard some outside voices from other people saying that they don't know if I'll ever be able to win another major again, and I stuck to working extremely hard on and off the golf course.

“I think of all the sad times and the health scares that I have gone through have made me who I am today. I think it has matured me a lot, and I would say it's shaped me into the person I am today, and I'm very grateful for the ups and downs.”

The ups were highs, like winning a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and ascending to No. 1 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. The lows saw her sidelined for months with a blood clot in her left arm and with back injuries that just wouldn’t stop hurting no matter her recovery efforts.

But Korda, always resilient and ever the competitor, clawed her way back , and fought her way forward to some of the greatest successes of her career, making what she’s done in 2024 that much more significant.

This fifth consecutive victory puts Korda’s name next to the likes of some of the most revered generational talents in the LPGA Tour record books, joining Annika Sorenstam and Nancy Lopez as the only other player since 1978 to win five straight titles.

It’s a place in history that she’s more than earned after this recent tear of excellent golf she’s put together. But it also has put Korda at the forefront of the conversation about the state of American golf right now, as few – male or female – have ever accomplished what she has in the last couple of months, at least not in this modern era.

“It's trending in the right direction, not just American golf but women's golf in general,” said Korda. “I think you see the past couple of major winners, Allisen (Corpuz) won at the U.S. Open and Lilia (Vu) won here last year. I think we're just performing really well, and I think that's everyone on Tour, honestly.

“It's so hard to win out here, and I say that with all honesty that it is really, really hard to win out here. The competition is getting harder and harder every year.”

But Korda has figured out a way to do it and gives a ton of credit to her team for her success, not just since the end of January, but throughout her entire 13-victory career.

“I'm so thankful to have the team that I do. They've gone through all the highs and lows with me, especially Jason (McDede, her caddie),” Korda said. “He has been by my side for every single one of my wins out here, and in a sense he's my punching bag out there, he's my best friend, and he's my teammate. I wouldn't be able to do it without him because his encouragement on and off the golf course has been amazing, and I'm just so, so, so thankful for him. I hope he knows it.”

After all of her wins, Korda has continually talked about staying in what she refers to as her “bubble,” refusing to look forward or back at her success too closely and instead choosing to be where her feet are – focusing on the next challenge, task or shot at hand. It’s a mentality that has clearly made a huge difference for the 25-year-old and a zone she’ll now be working to find every time she tees it up on the LPGA Tour.

But it seems like this time, Korda might finally let herself take a breath and enjoy the sweetness of triumph, particularly now that the biggest challenge – winning her fifth straight title at a major championship – has been conquered.

A proper celebration with her team is on deck as well, no offense to the In-N-Out Burgers, Five Guys fries or almond croissants she’s had over the last few weeks, of course.

“It's an amazing feeling because all the hard work and the doubt that I had in my head from 2021, I worked through it,” said Korda. “It's been an amazing feeling these past couple weeks knowing that I can go on this stretch and that if I stay in my bubble and I keep golf simple and let it flow, then I can have so, so much fun out here.

“It's just been an amazing time. To get five in a row, and my lucky number is 13, and for me to get it here in Houston and it to be a major, feels even better.”

And after all the fans go home and the robe gets hung up and she crawls in her hotel bed tonight, Korda might just finally realize the magnitude of what she’s accomplished.

The best news though? It’s only April, and it already feels like there’s more Korda success to come in 2024.

Moscow International Business Center (Moscow City)

  • Guide to Russia

What can you do at Moscow City?

  • Dine in style: Moscow City is home to 100+ cafes and restaurants, including Europe’s highest restaurant and ice-cream shop
  • See Moscow like never before: Ascend to one of Moscow City’s observation decks for an unparalleled panorama of Moscow
  • Admire world-class architecture: Each of Moscow City’s skyscrapers has distinctive architecture and design

Moscow City is a multifunctional complex in the west of Moscow, which has come to represent the booming business of Russia’s capital. Its skyscrapers enrich Moscow’s skyline, contrasting the medieval cupolas and Stalinist high-rises. Visitors to Moscow City can enjoy entertainment high in the sky, as the complex is home not just to offices, but to restaurants, cinemas, viewing platforms, and museums.

History of Moscow City

Moscow City was first conceived in 1991 by honoured Soviet architect Boris Tkhor, who proposed to construct a business center in Moscow. It would be complete with gleaming skyscrapers rivalling those of New York and London, to reflect the new life and growing ambitions of post-Soviet Russia.

The chosen site was a stone quarry and disused industrial zone in western Moscow, in between the Third Ring Road and Moskva River. Initially, the territory was divided into 20 sections arranged in a horseshoe shape around a central zone. The skyscrapers would increase in height as they spiralled around the central section, with shorter structures built on the waterfront to give the taller buildings behind a view of the river.

Architect Gennady Sirota, who contributed to iconic projects such as the Olympic Sports Complex on Prospekt Mira, was selected as the chief architect, and many other world-famous architects were attracted to Moscow to realise their visions in Moscow City.

What can you see and do at Moscow City?

Where Moscow’s cityscape was once dominated by Stalin’s Seven Sisters skyscrapers , this is no more. Moscow City is home to eight of Russia’s ten tallest buildings, six of which exceed 300 metres in height. More buildings are still under construction there today, including the One Tower (which will be Europe’s second-tallest building). Once completed, Moscow City will comprise more than 20 innovative structures.

Each of Moscow City’s skyscrapers was designed by its own architect, lending the cluster of skyscrapers a unique appearance. Aside from being a site of architectural wonder, Moscow City is a place for leisure and entertainment with over 100 cafes and restaurants, exhibition spaces, cinemas, viewing platforms, and more.

Federation Tower

  • East Tower: 374m, 97 floors; West Tower: 243m, 63 floors
  • Completed in 2017
  • Architects: Sergey Tchoban and Peter Schweger

The East Federation Tower is the tallest building in Moscow, and the second-tallest building in Europe after the Lakhta Centre in St Petersburg. Visitors can enjoy a luxurious meal of seafood, truffles or steak at restaurant ‘Sixty’ on the 62nd floor of the West Tower, or visit Europe’s highest observation deck, ‘Panorama 360’, on the 89th floor of the East Tower.

Did you know? The ice cream and chocolate shop on the 360 observation deck are the highest in the world!

  • South Tower: 354m, 85 floors; North Tower: 254m, 49 floors
  • Completed in 2015
  • Architect: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP

The South OKO Tower is the third-tallest building in Russia and Europe. Here, you can visit ‘Ruski’ to dine on hearty Russian cuisine cooked on a real Russian stove, and have a drink in the ice bar. Alternatively, visit restaurant, nightclub and performance space ‘Birds’; the restaurant is the highest in Europe, situated on the 86th floor roof terrace alongside an observation deck. The OKO Towers are also home to karaoke club ‘City Voice’.

Did you know? Underneath OKO Towers is the largest underground parking in Europe, with 16 levels and 3,400 parking spaces.

Mercury Tower

  • 339m tall, 75 floors
  • Architects : Mikhail Posokhin, Frank Williams, Gennady Sirota

Another multifunctional skyscraper, which was designed as the first truly ‘green’ building in Moscow. The Mercury Tower has a distinct geometric shape and copper-coloured glazing, and was the tallest building in Europe upon completion. Visit ‘More i myaso’ (Sea and meat) on the first floor of the tower to enjoy European and Mediterranean cuisine whilst surrounded by greenery. On the 2nd and 40th floors a modern art gallery, the ‘ILONA-K artspace’, has just opened.

City of Capitals

  • Moscow Tower: 302m, 76 floors; St Petersburg Tower: 257m, 65 floors
  • Completed in 2009
  • Architect: Bureau NBBJ

The unique geometric design of the City of Capitals towers resembles stacks of rotating blocks, and is rooted in Constructivism of the early Soviet period (many Soviet Constructivist buildings can be found in Moscow). Visitors to the Moscow Tower can enjoy a range of cuisines – traditional Italian dishes on the summer terrace of ‘Tutto Bene’, Panasian cuisine in the tropical luxury of the ‘Bamboo Bar’ on the 1st floor’, and poke or smoothie bowls at ‘Soul in the Bowl’ cafe on the 80th floor.

Tower on the Embankment

  • Tower A: 84m; Tower B:127m; Tower C: 268m, 61 floors
  • Completed in 2007
  • Architects: Vehbi Inan and Olcay Erturk

After completion, the Tower on the Embankment was the tallest building in Europe, and is now the 13th tallest. It houses the headquarters of several large Russian and international  companies, including IBM and KPMG. There are two cafes located on the 1st floor of Tower C – self-service café ‘Obed Bufet’ (Lunch Buffet) and Bakery Chain ‘Khleb Nasushchny’ (Daily Bread).

Evolution Tower

  • 255m tall, 54 floors
  • Architects: Philip Nikandrov and RMJM Scotland Ltd

Evolution is Moscow City’s most recognisable tower, and the 11th tallest building in Russia. Its façade is a true architectural marvel, comprising continuous strips of curved glazing spiralling high into  the sky. According to the architect, Philip Nikandrov, the spiral shape of the tower honours centuries of architectural design in Russia, from the onion domes of St Basil's Cathedral to Vladimir Shukhov’s Tatlin Tower, a masterpiece of Constructivist design. Outside the Evolution tower is a landscaped terrace and pedestrian zone descending to the Presnenskaya Embankment, which was also designed by Nikandrov.

Did you know? Moscow’s largest wedding palace was supposed to be built on the site of the Evolution tower, though the project was abandoned.

  • 239m tall, 60 floors
  • Completed in 2011

Imperia’s interesting design has a curved roof and an arched glass façade. Inside the tower are various cafes including ‘City Friends’ for all-day breakfasts and light lunches, ‘Mama in the City’ for simple meals of Russian cuisine, and ‘abc kitchen’ for European and Indian-inspired dishes. Alternatively, visit ‘High Bar’ on the 56th floor for cocktails with a view. In Imperia you’ll also find the Museum of High-Rise Construction in Moscow (suitably located on the 56th floor), and the Camera Immersive Theatre.

Did you know? Inside Vystavochnaya metro station is the Metro Museum , dedicated to the history of the beautiful Moscow Metro!

  • 130m tall, 26 floors
  • Completed in 2001
  • Architect: Boris Tkhor

Tower 2000 was Moscow City’s first tower. It stands on the opposite bank of the Moskva River, and houses a viewing platform from which visitors can admire an unparalleled panorama of Moscow City. The Bagration Bridge reaches across the river from the tower to Moscow City, and underneath are piers from where you can take boat trips.

Learn 10 Facts About Russia's Capital City

  • Country Information

Moscow is Russia's capital city and is the largest city in the country. As of January 1, 2010, Moscow's population was 10,562,099, which also makes it one of the top ten largest cities in the world. Because of its size, Moscow is one of the most influential cities in Russia and dominates the country in politics, economics, and culture among other things. Moscow is located in Russia's Central Federal District along the Moskva River and covers an area of 417.4 square miles (9,771 sq km).

The following is a list of ten things to know about Moscow: 1) In 1156 the first references to the construction of a wall around a growing city called Moscow began to appear in Russian documents as did descriptions of the city being attacked by the Mongols in the 13th century. Moscow was first made a capital city in 1327 when it was named the capital of the Vladimir-Suzdal principality. It later became known as the Grand Duchy of Moscow. 2) Throughout much of the rest of its history, Moscow was attacked by rival empires and armies. In the 17th century a large part of the city was damaged during citizen uprisings and in 1771 much of Moscow's population died due to the plague. Shortly thereafter in 1812, Moscow's citizens (called Muscovites) burned the city during Napoleon 's invasion. 3) After the Russian Revolution in 1917, Moscow became the capital of what would eventually become the Soviet Union in 1918. During World War II, however, a large portion of the city suffered damage from bombings. Following WWII, Moscow grew but instability continued in the city during the fall of the Soviet Union . Since then, though, Moscow has become more stable and is a growing economic and political center of Russia.

4) Today, Moscow is a highly organized city located on the banks of the Moskva River. It has 49 bridges crossing the river and a road system that radiates in rings out from the Kremlin in the city's center. 5) Moscow has a climate with humid and warm to hot summers and cold winters. The hottest months are June, July, and August while the coldest is January. The average high temperature for July is 74°F (23.2°C) and the average low for January is 13°F (-10.3°C). 6) The city of Moscow is governed by one mayor but it is also broken down into ten local administrative divisions called okrugs and 123 local districts. The ten okrugs radiate out around the central district which contains the city's historic center, Red Square, and the Kremlin. 7) Moscow is considered the center of Russian culture because of the presence of many different museums and theaters in the city. Moscow is home to the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts and the Moscow State Historical Museum. It is also home to Red Square which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site . 8) Moscow is well-known for its unique architecture which consists of many different historic buildings such as Saint Basil's Cathedral with its brightly colored domes. Distinctive modern buildings are also beginning to be constructed throughout the city.

9) Moscow is considered one of the largest economies in Europe and its main industries include chemicals, food, textiles, energy production, software development, and furniture manufacturing. The city is also home to some of the world's largest companies. 10) In 1980, Moscow was the host of the Summer Olympics and thus has a variety of different sports venues that are still used by the many sports teams within the city. Ice hockey, tennis, and rugby are some popular Russian sports. Reference Wikipedia. (2010, March 31). "Moscow." Moscow- Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia .
