‘The Dance’: Behind Fleetwood Mac’s Emotional 90s Reunion

‘The Dance’: Behind Fleetwood Mac’s Emotional 90s Reunion

‘The Dance’ may have been a false dawn for Fleetwood Mac as a group, but it’s a drama-fuelled triumph of a live album.

Having left Fleetwood Mac in acrimonious circumstances in 1987, few were as surprised as guitarist Lindsey Buckingham when he rejoined the group a decade later. “I certainly never thought I’d be back in Fleetwood Mac again,” Buckingham told Guitar magazine. “But, here we are, and, well, it feels pretty good.” Though this re-formed “classic” line-up would be short-lived, it would be memorialised in The Dance, a fiery live album which brought Buckingham, Stevie Nicks , Mick Fleetwood , and John and Christine McVie together on record for the first time since 1987’s Tango In The Night .

Listen to ‘The Dance’ here .

“the chemistry was very present”.

Both band and fans alike may have been surprised that the line-up responsible for Fleetwood Mac’s spectacular mid-70s to late-80s success would agree to perform together again, but, given the group’s turbulent history since original guitarist Peter Green assembled its first line-up, in 1967, perhaps it wasn’t so unthinkable after all.

Wisely, the reformation was recorded for posterity. Released on 19 August 1997, The Dance was a live album and companion film culled from two reunion shows the band had performed earlier that year in front of a specially invited audience at Warner Brothers Studios at Burbank, California, on 22 and 23 May. It also served as a trailer for a huge-grossing 44-date US tour that ran from September to November that year.

The record itself was a success on a par with Fleetwood Mac’s previous achievements, selling over a million copies in just eight weeks in the US, where it would also become the fifth biggest-selling live album of all time. It would go on to sell more than six million copies worldwide. But the experience didn’t herald a new dawn for the band; other than a few promotional appearances, Fleetwood Mac wouldn’t play live again until 2003, and The Dance remains Christine McVie’s last album to date with the group.

“I’d done some healing and some refocusing”

Speaking to Mojo in 1997, Buckingham explained how the reunion happened. “When I left in ’87, it really was a survival move. Emotionally and physically. The atmosphere was not very conducive to being creative… So cut to nine years later – last year – and I run into Mick and we go out and have breakfast… and I realise that we have an awful lot to talk about. And the chemistry was just very present – as it had always been, but without the baggage. I’d done some healing and some refocusing and hopefully some growing, and so had he.”

Following Buckingham’s departure, Mick Fleetwood did what he’d done ever since Fleetwood Mac’s debut live performance , and kept the group together by changing line-ups. However, after the release of 1995’s Time , he called time on the band. Meanwhile, Buckingham and Nicks had both been focusing on solo careers, and had perhaps been wondering what it would be like to be in a group again.

While Buckingham was recording a planned follow-up to his well-received 1992 album, Out Of The Cradle , he and Mick Fleetwood had that fateful breakfast and began working together. Before long, both John and Christine McVie came on board for some sessions. Next, the Buckingham/Nicks team reunited for Twisted, a song for the soundtrack of the 1996 disaster film Twister which also featured Mick Fleetwood. “Basically, the whole band had made music during the course of that year,” the drummer told Mojo in 1997. “And at that point, there was no mention from within the ranks that it was all leading to something.”

“When we’re singing songs to each other, we’re saying more then we would in real life”

Fast-forward to May 1997 and the five-piece were on stage together for the first time since the split, with no sign that their chemistry had weakened. The first Burbank show wasn’t to the band’s liking, and the performance released on The Dance is from the 23 May show, the second of their two nights at Warner Brothers Studios.

The Chain makes for a dramatic opening: stripped-back and slowed down at the start, with Buckingham’s guitar sounding bluesier than on the song’s original release, as if the intervening years have taken their toll. When the chorus kicks in, the drama unfolds, with ex-lovers Buckingham and Nicks singing, “And if, you don’t love me now/You will never love me again,” at each other for a moment of real poignancy. All these years later, the intrigue and inter-band dynamics that had fuelled the band’s success from Rumours on were still present.

A charged set followed. Nicks took centre stage for powerful renditions of Dreams and Rhiannon that emphasised her magnetism as one of the best frontwomen in rock , and she brought the house down with a tender Landslide, accompanied solely by Buckingham on acoustic guitar, as if it were 1975 all over again.

A particular highlight of the night is the Nicks-penned Silver Springs, a song that didn’t make the cut for Rumours but was issued a B-side to Go Your Own Way. Originally written as a kiss-off to Buckingham, on The Dance it marks the point where tensions between the pair threatened to overspill, with emotionally draining results. The concert film captures the moment when the pair begin to exchange knowing looks; before long, Nicks is singing directly to Buckingham, seemingly furious. The intensity of the performance led gossip columnists to speculate that they were romantically involved again – something Nicks was keen to dispel in a Rolling Stone interview: “I don’t want to be part of that darkness. He knows that. When we’re up there singing songs to each other, we probably say more to each other than we ever would in real life.”

The spark remained

While Silver Springs may have brought the emotional fireworks, Buckingham’s impassioned leads on Go Your Own Way and Big Love showed how much his material had contributed to the group’s legacy. Meanwhile, the title track from the Tusk album provided another standout moment when the University Of Southern California Marching Band (who had played on the original studio recording) came on stage to propel the song to giddy heights.

The marching band stuck around for the last song of the evening, Christine McVie’s Don’t Stop , making for a triumphant ending. McVie had also contributed an effervescent Everywhere, a rootsy take on Say You Love Me, and a smouldering You Make Loving Fun to the evening, all underlining the importance of the pop-rock sensibility she had brought to Fleetwood Mac’s ongoing success.

Along with the hits, The Dance added new songs to the band’s repertoire: Nicks’ Sweet Girl, Christine McVie’s Temporary One and Buckingham’s My Little Demon and Bleed To Love Her. Introducing new material might have suggested that Fleetwood Mac were properly back, and The Dance certainly makes it clear that the spark remained, but it would prove the last time that the five-piece who made Rumours recorded a full album together. (It’s notable among Fleetwood Mac facts that The Dance is the only album on which the entire group appeared together on the cover.) But, as ever with Fleetwood Mac, never say never.

Lindsey Buckingham : [talking about "Bleed to Love Her"] This reconvening of these five people was kind of an organic... thing. Uhh... I had asked Mick to play drums on a solo album I was working on... still working on, actually. It was one thing led to another, and suddenly there we were in the studio saying, "Gee, this feels pretty good."

Lindsey Buckingham : [in a weird voice] Isn't that weird?

Christine McVie : [sarcastically] That is pretty weird.

Lindsey Buckingham : Ha ha! It was weird, actually, and that brought us to this point, so, uhh... We thought we would do a song that we had been working on together at that time, and it's called "Bleed to Love Her".

This Day in ’97: Fleetwood Mac starts touring behind THE DANCE

Fleetwood Mac, THE DANCE

21 years ago today, Fleetwood Mac played their first tour date since releasing their live album, THE DANCE.

After Lindsey Buckingham left Fleetwood Mac in the wake of the band’s TANGO IN THE NIGHT album, it seemed relatively unlikely that fans would see him in the lineup again, but when the classic Buckingham-Nicks-McVie vocal trifecta reunited to perform for Bill Clinton, some of the frostier feelings between the band members had begun to melt, which made the idea of reteaming for a live concert event in 1997 a viable option.

On May 23, 1997, Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie, John McVie, and Mick Fleetwood performed live at Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank, California, recording the performance for later release as THE DANCE, which hit record stores on August 19, 1997. It debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, and there was much clamoring for more Mac.

Less than a month later, concertgoers throughout the US started to get exactly what they wanted: the band kicked off their tour on September 17 at the Meadows Music Theater in Hartford, Connecticut, and they would continue through November 27, wrapping up their run of shows at Madison Square Garden. Alas, the following year would see the departure of Christine McVie from the band, but Buckingham and Nicks stuck it out with Fleetwood Mac for quite some time thereafter, including the recording of 2003’s SAY YOU WILL. Not a bad second run.

25 years of fleetwood mac's "the dance" - new hd videos.

2022 marks the 25th Anniversary of the release of Fleetwood Mac's "The Dance". The live TV event and subsequent album and DVD release brought the famous 5 Fleetwood Mac members back together and back to life frankly in 1997 after struggling as a band in the 1990s. This was again sidelined by the departure or retirement of Christine McVie in early 1998 after their last commitment.

To celebrate, Fleetwood Mac and Rhino Records have been releasing HD versions of the videos from the live event. So far they've dropped on the Fleetwood Mac Youtube page "Landslide", Silver Springs and The Chain.

Can't help but think they are gearing up for a re-issue remaster of the album, hopefully, expanded with all the tracks performed and a Blu-ray or better version of the original DVD release. That would be pretty amazing.

‘Stereophonic’ Review: Hitmakers Rendered in Sublime Detail

In David Adjmi’s new play, with songs by Will Butler, a ’70s band’s success breeds tension, and punches up the volume on Broadway.

  • Share full article

In a scene from the production, two women and a man are standing shoulder to shoulder, each with his or her arms crossed at their chest. It reads as an awkward, tension-filled moment in a recording studio.

By Naveen Kumar

Peering behind the mystique of rock ’n’ roll has undeniable voyeuristic appeal. So there is an immediate thrill to seeing the mahogany-paneled control room and glassed-in sound booth that fill the Golden Theater stage, where “Stereophonic” opened on Friday . But David Adjmi’s astonishing new play, with songs by the former Arcade Fire member Will Butler, delivers far more than a dishy glimpse inside the recording studio during rock’s golden age.

A fly-on-the-wall study of how people both need and viciously destroy each other, “Stereophonic” is a fiery family drama, as electrifying as any since “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” Its real-time dissection of making music — a collaboration between flawed, gifted artists wrangled into unison — is ingeniously entertaining and an incisive meta commentary on the nature of art. The play is a staggering achievement, and already feels like a must-see American classic.

It’s 1976 in Sausalito, Calif., and a not-yet-famous band — at least not solely inspired by Fleetwood Mac — is laying down the record that will propel it to stardom and unravel the personal lives of its members (in much the same way that making “Rumours” did for Fleetwood Mac). The setting (a marvel by scenic designer David Zinn) is a pressure-cooker: The coffee machine is broken but there’s a gallon bag of cocaine, and tensions and affections — both creative and personal — are running hot.

Directed with a conductor’s precision by Daniel Aukin, “Stereophonic” is an epic canvas rendered in hyper-intimate detail: whispered confidences and technical adjustments, slouches and stares, lots of lying around and rolling joints. Stillness and silence are as expressive as Adjmi’s meticulously orchestrated dialogue, body language sometimes even more so. It’s possible to read the band’s ascension to fame beyond the confines of the studio, as its previous album creeps up the Billboard charts, in the swiveling hips of its lead singer alone (and in the progression of prints and flares in Enver Chakartash’s divine costumes).

When the poetic and insecure Diana, played with stunning vulnerability by Sarah Pidgeon, sits down at the piano some 45 minutes into the three-hour show, the actor’s radiant voice delivers the first significant composition the audience hears: “Bright,” a folk-tinged rock ballad with sterling, ethereal vocals. Until then, notes trickle out in brief bursts. Often interrupted or doled out in riffs, the expressions of character and discord generated by Butler’s music are abstract — their fragmentation designed to make you want more. (Savor the early sessions when everyone can stand to be in the same room.)

Diana’s toxic romance with Peter (Tom Pecinka) — guitarist, producer, unrelenting narcissist — is a searing and consistent source of emotional combustion. Peter’s willingness to shiv Diana’s soft spots makes the other feuding couple look downright sweet: Reg, the boozing, philosophical bassist (played by Will Brill, with the endearing agility of a Muppet) and the peace-seeking Holly (Juliana Canfield, making an excellent Broadway debut). The level head in the room usually belongs to Simon (a charming Chris Stack), except when an out-of-whack drum kit sends him into a fit.

When the bandmates are in formation behind the recording-booth glass — elevated on a higher plane, their faces enshrined by warm halos (the exquisite lighting is by Jiyoun Chang) — they’re like gods on Mount Olympus glowering down at the tech table. The upstairs-downstairs dynamic between the musicians and their sound engineers, the low-key ambitious Grover (Eli Gelb) and non sequitur-spouting Charlie (Andrew R. Butler), is a font of frequent comedy, including Grover’s crazed, sleep-deprived impression of Peter and Simon, who run him ragged with all-nighters.

But who has more power in a sound studio than the people operating the mics? Grover and Charlie not only hear it all, but control what everyone else (including the audience) hears as well. (Ryan Rumery’s sound design is a technical wonder.) Grover matures the most over the year that the story takes place, from faking it to becoming indispensable, an arc that Gelb traces with unassuming subtlety. Grover’s visibility in the room is another growth indicator; the band goes from treating him like furniture to trusting him implicitly. (Poor Charlie doesn’t rise to the same honor.)

Even now, it’s possible to imagine misty-eyed fans of this production, which premiered Off Broadway in October at Playwrights Horizons (where the New York Times critic Jesse Green called it “relentlessly compelling” ), reflecting on the experience as if it were a once-in-a-lifetime stadium tour. And the Broadway transfer punches up the volume on the climactic moments of synchronicity, when the band nails a stellar take or the layers of a song are combined or fractured to shivering effect.

But the pleasures of “Stereophonic” are more granular and immediate; its close and sustained observation of artists, held captive by their desires to create, yields the most riveting insights. Like, what is the point of it all, anyway? “Life is for enjoyment,” Reg claims. “Life is pain,” Grover counters. If you ask Holly, needing others is the worst part. Still, there can be no harmony without all of the joys and miseries of other people.

Crowded House's Neil Finn had to 'audition' for Fleetwood Mac

Share with :.

Crowded House's Neil Finn had to audition to be Fleetwood Mac's guitarist.

The 'Weather with You' hitmaker, 65, replaced Lindsey Buckingham, 74, in 2018, after the 'Dreams' hitmakers fired the latter, and he has revealed it's the only time he's had to try-out for a band.

Neil also revealed his son, Liam Finn, 40, wasn't keen on him joining the band at first, and insisted he appreciated the audition because he could gauge if he was doing the right thing.

He told the June issue of MOJO magazine: "I was gobsmacked. I was 60 and I'd had a wonderfully diverse musical life when Mick called and said, 'We've got rid of Lindsey, would you play with us?' I'd just done Lightsleeper with Liam so he had a vested interest in my not doing it, but he said, 'Give it a shot,' so I auditioned."

The journalist was flabbergasted that he had to audition, with Neil adding: "It's the only audition I've ever done. I went to Hawaii and Mick spent an hour telling me it wasn't an audition, but it was. I was auditioning them too: I wasn't sure it was the right thing, I was quite conflicted, but I liked the people and the welcome was universal."

Asked what he added to the iconic group, he replied: "The naysayers said, 'No Lindsey Buckingham, no Fleetwood Mac,' but I brought personality and the ability to sing with Stevie [frontwoman] and Christine [late keyboardist, vocalist and songwriter]. I could never be capable of sounding like Lindsey but I put a similar intensity into his songs."

Neil has had no communication with Lindsey but insists there is no "ill-will" and he hopes they can catch up over a meal in the future.

Asked if they have spoken, he replied: "No, but I'd really like to have a dinner with him.

There's a lot of ill-will, but I don't think he bears any towards me and I do think he had prior appreciation of the music I'd made. Hopefully, once he got over the massive disappointment, he'd have thought, 'At least someone with something going for them is singing my songs.'"

Fleetwood Mac "currently doesn't exist" with the band not planning to continue without the beloved Christine - who died in 2022, aged 79, following a brief illness.

Drummer Mick Fleetwood, 76, previously admitted he cannot even contemplate stepping foot on stage again under the Fleetwood Mac name in the wake of his friend's passing.

Speaking to the LA Times at the Grammy Awards last year, he said: "I think right now, I truly think the line in the sand has been drawn with the loss of Chris.

“I’d say we’re done, but then we’ve all said that before. It’s sort of unthinkable right now.”

Pop Rumours of Fleetwood Mac - Live in Concert 2025

Rumours of Fleetwood Mac - Live in Concert 2025

Mi. 19.02.2025 | 20:00

ab  71,85 €

Ihr schon vor einigen Jahren beschlossenes Tour-Motto lautet „It’s About Their Music“. In diesem Sinne performt die siebenköpfige Formation die Musik von Fleetwood Mac so originalgetreu wie möglich sowie mit dem gebührenden Respekt und lässt vor allem den Spirit der weltweit gefeierten Band und der damaligen Zeit wieder aufleben. Sie selbst sagen dazu: „These precious songs have been the soundtrack to many people’s lives the world over and we know that you hold them close.

Aerosmith announces rescheduled 2024-25 farewell tour dates. Get tickets

No need to “Dream On” much longer.

Aerosmith has finally announced the rescheduled dates of their ‘Peace Out’ farewell tour with special guests The Black Crowes and Teddy Swims on select dates.

The 40-concert jaunt will take the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers to arenas all over North America from September 2024 up until February 2025.

Notable shows include stops at Newark, NJ’s Prudential Center on Saturday, Dec. 28 and New York’s Madison Square Garden on Feb. 23, 2025.

Their last gig is scheduled for Feb. 26, 2025 at Buffalo’s KeyBank Center .

This upcoming trek will be the second attempt at rescheduling the tour; Steven Tyler sustained vocal cord damage at a Sept. 9, 2023 concert in Long Island — just three shows into their run — and the band had to postpone indefinitely.

“All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the rescheduled shows,” Aerosmith shared on Instagram .

If you haven’t gotten tickets yet and want to sing along to “Sweet Emotion,” “Walk This Way,” “Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” and so many more hits one last time, tickets can be scooped up for all ‘Peace Out’ concerts as soon as today.

Although inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster until Friday, April 12, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can purchase on sites like Vivid Seats before tickets are officially on sale.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

A complete calendar including all rescheduled ‘Peace Out’ tour dates, venues, and links to buy tickets can be found below.

The original Aerosmtih lineup won’t be fully intact on this run of concerts.

Yes, lead singer Steven Tyler, guitarist Joe Perry, bassist Tom Hamilton and rhythm guitarist Brad Whitford are slated to perform at all shows.

However, drummer Joey Kramer will be sitting this run of shows out to “focus his attention on his family and health” according to  AP News .

Kramer, 72, will be replaced by John Douglas who has drummed with the band since 2019.

Aerosmith got three shows deep into their ‘Peace Out’ Farewell Tour before postponing.

For a closer look, here’s what they played at a recent live show courtesy of  Set List FM :

01.) “Back in the Saddle”

02.) “Same Old Song and Dance”

03.) “Rag Doll”

04.) “Livin’ on the Edge”

05.) “Janie’s Got a Gun”

On all dates except their opener when they’ll perform with Teddy Swims, Aerosmith will be joined by  The Black Crowes aka Rolling Stone’s “best new band of 1990.”

The band, known for mega hits “Hard To Handle” and “She Talks To Angels,” is also conducting a solo tour of their own this year including a show at New York’s Radio City Music Hall on April 27.

In 1973, the 25-year-old Tyler was given guardianship of 16-year-old Julia Holcomb so the two could live together.

After a tumultuous three-year relationship, the two broke up.

Nearly 50 years later, Holcomb — who now goes by Julia Misley — filed a lawsuit in December 2022. In the suit, she claimed Tyler sexually assaulted her, forced her to abort their child, and convinced her to drink and take drugs after he promised to serve as her guardian.

In the trial, Tyler alleged the relationship was consensual and had immunity because of his guardian status.

Legal experts have since said “caregiver immunity” does not exist if you sexually abuse the person you’ve taken in.

“The lawsuit came in the final days of California’s Child Victims Act, which temporarily lifted the statute of limitations for survivors of childhood sexual abuse to come forward with their allegations,” Consequence of Sound reported.

Jeanne Bellino, another minor that was sexually abused by Tyler in the 1970s, also filed a lawsuit against him; US District Judge Lewis Kaplan threw the case out this February because she “had waited too long to sue Tyler under a New York City law protecting victims of gender-motivated violence,” Reuters wrote.

“(Kaplan) said Bellino did not qualify for a two-year window to pursue claims that would otherwise extend beyond statutes of limitations, because she did not allege that Tyler’s conduct posed a “serious risk of physical injury.”

Many of the biggest acts that defined the sound of the ’70s and ’80s are back on the road this year for another spin.

Clara Bow's family thinks the silent-film star would have loved Taylor Swift's song about her

  • Taylor Swift's new studio album, "The Tortured Poets Department," has been released.
  • The last track on the standard edition of the album is named "Clara Bow" after the silent film star.
  • The actor's great-granddaughters spoke exclusively to BI about hearing the song for the first time.

Insider Today

"You look like Clara Bow in this light" is how Taylor Swift begins the closing track of the standard edition of her latest album, " The Tortured Poets Department ," which was released on Friday.

The song, itself titled " Clara Bow ," is an intimate, guitar-led number that sees Swift recalling conversations with suited-up music executives who compare her to trailblazing, somewhat similar-looking women who came before her.

First, there's Bow herself, the 1920s movie star who broke the Hollywood mold with her unrivaled confidence and candor both on and off screen. This is followed in the second verse by "You look like Stevie Nicks in '75" (the Fleetwood Mac frontwoman has coincidentally written a poem for Swift in the liner notes of physical copies of the album).

It's not hard to see why Swift has been told she looks like either Bow or Nicks; at different points across her three-decade-spanning career, Swift has borne physical resemblances to each of them (think: her unruly curly hair and arched screen-siren eyebrows in her "Fearless" days, and her "Red"-era bangs and boho-inspired fashion choices).

But beyond what she's been told by others, by naming the song "Clara Bow," Swift appears to be signaling an affinity with the original "It" girl whose career reached its apex almost a century ago.

That's certainly how Bow's family — who are more than delighted that the world's biggest pop star has decided to name a track after their late ancestor — has interpreted the song.

"Clara Bow was someone who was unapologetically herself and I think Taylor can say the same of herself," Brittany Grace Bell, one of Bow's great-granddaughters, told Business Insider. "In the song, she sings, 'In a town of fakes, you're the real thing,' and I think she's referring to both herself and Clara. They're not afraid to be themselves and rise above the noise."

Bell's cousin and another one of Bow's great-granddaughters, Nicole Sisneros, who also spoke to BI, said she "felt chills" hearing the song for the first time this week.

"It is hauntingly beautiful the way Taylor uses her songwriting ability and her artistry to draw parallels between Clara's life and her own. It's a really beautiful testament to both of their legacies," she added.

While Sisneros said that both she and Bell, who are the granddaughters of Bow's son Rex Bell Jr., "fell in love with the song" as soon as they heard it, they were apprehensive given that Bow's legacy often gets reduced to its most "salacious" elements.

Related stories

"It's so easy to sensationalize someone's life and focus on the hardships, and that's truly what happened to Clara her whole life," Sisneros said, referring to the tabloid obsession with Bow's troubled upbringing, broken engagements, and mental health struggles, which eventually led her to be dubbed "Crisis-a-day-Clara" by her manager, B.P. Schulberg, according to biographer David Stenn.

As Sisneros pointed out, Swift also "faces constant scrutiny," which she thinks meant Swift was able to "really separate what's sensationalized and speculation and focus on the true beauty of an individual."

One misconception Bell was keen to point out is the narrative that Bow was "pushed out of Hollywood" at age 28. "It isn't true," she said. "She left on her own accord as she wanted to live the rest of her life and raise her children so she retired out on a ranch in Nevada."

This is far from the first time Swift has drawn musical inspiration from historical pop-culture icons. In her discography, she's given a shout-out to Golden Age Hollywood couple Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, written a whole song about Rebekah Harkness, the eccentric 1940s socialite and composer who once owned Swift's Rhode Island home, and dedicated a track to Kennedy family matriarch Ethel Kennedy .

"Taylor is a master at digging. I think looking into the history of Hollywood, certainly, she would have come across Clara Bow and connected with her as an artist and being focused on her raw talent," Sisneros theorized.

"She was probably looking to draw inspiration from people of the past who would consider themselves tortured poets," Bell pointed out. "Clara was a poet and able to speak poetry through her, her acting; Taylor's a poet through her songwriting."

Although Swift did not reach out to the cousins before the release of the song ("We hope that somehow we could connect," Sisneros said), both have long been admirers of her discography.

Sisneros took her eldest daughter to Swift's The Eras Tour during its stopover at Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium last year. Bell couldn't make it, as she was heavily pregnant with her daughter at the time, but in a "fun connection," her daughter turned one the same day as the release of "The Tortured Poets Department."

Ultimately, for Sisneros and Bell, Swift's immortalization of their great-grandmother in "Clara Bow" is a gift they can hand down to future generations.

They think Bow would have loved Swift, too, referencing something Bow once said about Marilyn Monroe, which Bell thinks could equally apply to the pop star.

"I never met Marilyn Monroe, but if I had, I would have tried very hard to help her. A sex symbol is a heavy load to carry when one is tired, hurt, and bewildered," Bow is quoted as saying in Stenn's biography, "Clara Bow: Runnin' Wild."

"I feel like she would say the same thing about Taylor," Bell concluded. "I think she would feel a nurturing sense over Taylor as today's 'It' girl."
