Twiddle, the beloved jam band known for their unique fusion of rock, funk, and reggae, are set to return to Colorado for one last performance before embarking on an indefinite hiatus. The band will take the stage at Mission Ballroom on Nov. 11, 2023, treating fans to a memorable two-set headlining show. Joining them for this special occasion will be the NYC indie-soul band, Melt, adding an extra layer of musical magic to the evening.

Twiddle’s decision to embark on an indefinite hiatus comes after 18 years of non-stop touring. This final year of performances will serve as a heartfelt farewell to their dedicated fan base, creating lasting memories before the band takes a step back from the spotlight. The Denver show at Mission Ballroom marks a significant milestone in their farewell tour, making it a must-see event for both long-time supporters and newcomers alike.

Twiddle has built a reputation for their energetic live performances and improvisational prowess, captivating audiences with their infectious grooves and soulful melodies. With their unique blend of genres and their ability to create musical journeys, Twiddle has garnered a dedicated following over the years. Fans can expect a memorable night of music and celebration as the band bids farewell to the stage.

In addition to the Denver show, Twiddle has announced several other upcoming tour dates as part of their Distance Makes the Heart tour. Fans across the country will have the chance to catch the band live before their hiatus begins. The tour includes stops in various cities, including Murphysboro, Ill.; Scranton, Pa.; Buffalo, N.Y.; Westport, Conn.; Rochester, N.Y.; East Durham, N.Y.; East Hampton, N.Y.; Vineyard Haven, Mass.; Washington, DC; and Providence, R.I.

Twiddle’s final show in Colorado is expected to be a bittersweet farewell as fans bid adieu to a band that has touched their hearts with their soulful music. With the addition of Melt to the lineup, the night promises to be an unforgettable experience for everyone in attendance. Tickets for the Mission Ballroom show and the VIP Experience Package are sure to sell out quickly, so fans are encouraged to secure their spots as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

VIP ticket holders will enjoy a range of benefits, including a premium reserved or general admission ticket to the show. They will also be treated to a private pre-show acoustic performance, a meet-and-greet opportunity with the band, and a group photo. As a special keepsake, Twiddle will autograph a show poster for each VIP purchaser. The package also includes a VIP laminate, granting early entry to the venue, as well as first access to merchandise before doors open to the public.

Tickets for the highly anticipated show will go on sale to the general public on Friday, June 23, at 10 a.m. MT. However, devoted Twiddle fans had the opportunity to secure their spots during the Artist Presale, which began on Wednesday, June 21, at 10 a.m. MT. In addition to regular tickets, a VIP Experience Package will also be available for purchase, granting fans exclusive perks and memorable moments with the band.

Vermont-born jam band Twiddle found online success before return to stage this weekend

twiddle tour manager

Twiddle was on tour in March when the COVID-19 pandemic stopped all concerts, sending the jam-rock band back to its home base in Vermont.

The Vermont jam-rock band Twiddle.

Band manager Ben Baruch and his Denver-based company, 11E1even Group, had a feeling that what many in the music industry thought was going to be a short pause would become a long layoff. While the band’s lighting and sound crew were still together as the shutdown started, Baruch and Twiddle decided to shoot video of the band playing a half-dozen sets in Vermont under the assumption – “luckily it was the correct assumption,” Baruch said – that tours would be canceled long-term.

They charged fans a fee to view the concerts, and 11E1even Group followed a similar model for other bands it represents via its livestreaming platform Live From Out There . Within two days they made $100,000 for their bands at a time when other acts were watching sources of live-music income evaporate entirely.

That amount has since climbed over $800,000 to help bands and crew members still unable to tour because of the pandemic, according to Baruch, a 2003 alumnus of the University of Vermont. “We were the first to really jump on this,” he said.

Twiddle did well in July with a virtual tour of Vermont venues the band played at the start of a career that has included a sold-out show at the renowned Red Rocks Amphitheatre outside Denver and its own festival in Burlington, Tumble Down, that draws thousands of fans. The band that began about 15 years ago at what’s now called Castleton University returns to the stage in front of live fans this weekend for three shows – two of which are sold out and the other is close – at The Higher Ground Drive-In Experience in Essex Junction.

Early livestreams ‘prescient,’ Higher Ground founder says

Alex Crothers has a reputation in the music industry as a visionary who has turned the Higher Ground music venue – which he co-founded in 1998 in Winooski and is now based in South Burlington – into a powerhouse that books concerts throughout the Northeast, including this weekend’s Twiddle shows. Even he didn’t envision what Baruch and Twiddle saw when they set up Live From Out There.

More: Guster embraces the uncertainty of playing drive-in concerts in an uncertain time

“Ben said, ‘We’re just getting prepared in case we need to come off the road,’” Crothers said. “At the time I was like, ‘Oh, that’s an interesting perspective.’ It turns out he was incredibly prescient.”

Higher Ground postponed concerts with the presumption they would start back up in mid-April. “That seemed more than enough time in terms of relocating shows,” Crothers said. “It felt like by that point in time it was completely unfathomable that this would extend any further than that.”

Now he recognizes how on the ball Baruch was. “Ben was the person I talked to that I felt like was making a game plan and was a step ahead of everybody else,” Crothers said.

Virtual tour with Billy Strings, Marcus King

Twiddle and Baruch kept going after those early livestreamed shows, which drew coverage from Rolling Stone and CNN . Baruch’s company arranged for a virtual summer tour with bands including Twiddle and nationally known acts Billy Strings, Marcus King and Oteil Burbridge.

Baruch and Twiddle’s lead singer/guitarist, Mihali Savoulidis, brainstormed an idea that grew into last month’s Roots Tour. Savoulidis and his band mates – Ryan Dempsey on keyboards, Zdenek Gubb on bass and drummer Brook Jordan – played otherwise-empty venues in Vermont that Twiddle performed in as they rose in prominence over the past dozen years. The resulting combination of new and archival shows interspersed with interviews about the band’s history were offered to fans who could pay a fee to watch individual events or the entire three-week series.

Baruch said the Roots tour appealed to fans — more than 15,000 of whom tuned in — who got to hear Twiddle history that maybe they didn’t know before. The band threw in VIP offers including merchandise, unique concert footage and virtual meet-and-greets that helped bring in extra income.

Crothers said the Roots Tour provides an example of the importance of arts venues that he and others are lobbying legislators about in an effort to procure pandemic-related relief funds. Bands such as Twiddle that sell out festivals and famous amphitheaters began by playing church basements, bars, art galleries, clubs and small theaters, according to Crothers.

“All these venues are critical to the performing arts, particularly live music,” he said.

Twiddle hasn’t made as much money from its livestreams as it would have on tour. “It really was not far off with obviously way lower expenses” such as hotels, buses and gear and truck rentals that add to the cost of touring, Baruch said. “It was pretty close to comparable of what we would have done.”

Playing for crowds at the Champlain Valley Expo

The virtual shows have kept Twiddle afloat, but now it’s time for the band with a Phish-like community of devotees to return to in-person performing. It was a difficult adjustment for the members of Twiddle to get used to performing only for livestream cameras the past few months, according to Baruch.

“The band obviously wants to play live and in front of an audience,” he said.

“It’s as close as we’re able to get to getting our community back together in a safe way and the band feeling that energy they haven’t had since early in March,” Baruch said. “We’re doing everything we can to keep the energy and morale high.”

This was my first time seeing a concert at the Troubadour in West Hollywood and it was the best show that I have ever seen live. Iya Terra opened the show and were amazing. Twiddle was equally as good if not better. The Troubadour is a very small venue which makes for very loud and awesome shows. I highly recommend seeing Iya Terra and/or Twiddle!! I will definitely be seeing both of these bands again in the near future. Overall fantastic show and I caught a drumstick; Shout out to the Iya Terra drummer for throwing his drumsticks!!

Twiddle put on a phenomenal show! They played three full sets each with a unique sound/style to them. The crowd was definitely one of the friendliest and happiest crowds I've had the pleasure of dancing among. 10/10 would see them again!!

Jürgen Klopp waves to the LIverpool fans after their 2-2 draw with West Ham.

Jürgen Klopp’s farewell tour descends from heavy metal to a heavy heart

Manager’s Liverpool reign is fizzling out as they once again fail to turn their supremacy into three points at West Ham

A sked to consider the imminent departure of Jürgen Klopp , David Moyes was in jovial mood. “I’ll be glad he’s gone. He’s too big. Teeth are too bright. I’ll be glad to see the back of him I’ve got to say. Hurry up and get away.”

But even for those who have been counting down the days, the rogue miserabilists, irredeemable misanthropes and rival managers, this cannot be how anybody wanted the story to end. Moyes admitted Liverpool were the better team here and by way of bonus added they had been also in their 2-0 defeat at Everton on Wednesday.

Liverpool were also better than Fulham last week, and Crystal Palace and Manchester United before that. But just one of those games has been won and the manner of its unravelling is the final cruelty of Klopp’s final season.

The German has not yet been bled dry of magic, is not entirely drained of energy or inspiration. He proved that much at half‑time here when he transfused focus and vitality to a team that in the opening period had simmered occasionally but never soared. A goal down at the break, within 10 minutes of the restart they had fashioned three excellent chances and an equaliser.

There was still joy in this performance. Luis Díaz was threatening and entertaining, Trent Alexander-Arnold played a handful of fabulous passes and Andy Robertson, despite having played all but six minutes of Liverpool’s past five league games and operating, in Klopp’s words, “on the edge”, was effervescent.

There was a moment in the first half when Liverpool were playing with Cody Gakpo on the left, Díaz on the right and Robertson and Alexis Mac Allister as a front two, demonstrating an openness to improvisation. That was also, and less pleasingly, displayed a little later when Ryan Gravenberch decided the best way to convert Gakpo’s centre when beautifully placed was with an off-balance reverse backheel flick (he made no contact).

In the first half, Robertson’s availability as an open passing option on the left and Harvey Elliott’s on the right, sucked the team into playing easy passes into areas that suited the West Ham defence. Part of their improvement after the break came with an increased willingness to attempt riskier but potentially more decisive passes through the middle. Still, their actual goals relied on a full-back and a triple deflection. They are a team that is straining but sagging.

The heavy metal football of Klopp’s heyday has been replaced with something that is just heavy. The manager himself is weighed down. He said little in a brief post-match press conference but there were a few phrases that revealed a dark mood: “I tried to do the right thing”; “It will be the next generation, not me any more”; “I’m sorry I don’t have better news for you or anybody else.”

Michail Antonio scores West Ham’s second goal.

It is not just Liverpool’s results that are not right at the moment. Klopp stands in the centre circle during the pre-match warm-ups, back to his own side, analysing the body language of their opponents. Had he spun around on this dismal, remorselessly grey April afternoon he would have noticed the disposition of certain members of his own side was even less sunny than the London sky.

after newsletter promotion

Mohamed Salah was the most obvious example and the Egyptian spent his final few minutes before retreating to the dressing room exchanging the most half-hearted of passes with Dominik Szoboszlai. While it might be a bit presumptuous to describe him in these moments as melancholic there was certainly no evidence of enthusiasm. It was as if his shoulders and his form had become engaged in a battle to see which could slump further.

A couple of hours later, as the final whistle blew on this game and, to all intents and purposes, on Liverpool’s season, the first player to retreat down the tunnel was Salah. If for much of the match his side was evidently desperate for a player with precisely his skillset – lightning pace and an eye for goal – he did little once introduced to suggest he still possessed it or to replace in anyone’s memory the argument with Klopp on the touchline that immediately preceded his introduction. There was one run, with a minute of normal time to play, that evoked distant and splendid memories, but the pass at the end of it was appalling.

When Klopp announced in January his intention to leave the club at the end of the season talk was of a glorious, title-winning send-off. The issue now is not trophies but atrophy. Salah left the ground muttering angrily about “fire”; in truth we can barely see the embers.

The mix of solo and full-band shows will see the multi-hyphenate perform with his Twiddle bandmates  Zdenek Gubb (bass) and Adrian Tramontano  (drums) as part of his live band.

The full lineup for Mihali’s touring ensemble also includes Michael Oehmen and Michael Bafundo on horns as well as keyboardist  Scott Hannay , who frequently lent a hand on keys during Twiddle’s farewell tour last year which preceded the band’s ongoing indefinite hiatus .
