The Culture Capital of Jamaica is Kingston, also known as the “Heartbeat of Jamaica” for its hustle and bustle with vibrancy of city life people, theatres, play houses and clubs. Home to the 7th largest natural harbor in the world, Historic towns such as Spanish Town and Port Royal it is a direct contrast from the laid-back north coast resort towns and remote areas on the island.

Montego Bay

Known as the “Complete Resort”, Montego Bay is one of Jamaica’s most popular tourist destinations; considered the tourist capital of the island. Also known as Mobay for short, its Jamaica’s second city with a modern international airport (Sangster International), cruise pier which can accommodate mega liners, 5 championship golf courses, boutique and luxury hotels, themed restaurants, gaming lounges, picture-perfect white sands and beaches perfect for every budget and experience.

The “Centrepiece of Jamaica”, situated between the islands two cities – Kingston and Montego is known for providing excellent access from both airports. Known for it’s lush landscape of caves, gardens, rivers and white sand beaches, Ocho Rios is a popular tourist destination for travellers to the island. This small port town features duty-free shopping, a cruise ship terminal, world-renowned tourist attractions and several beaches and acclaimed resorts. It also has an international airport (Ian Fleming International Airport) name after the famous writer who made the town his home. Ocho Rios which means “eight rivers” in Spanish derives from “Las Chorreras” meaning “waterfalls” and maybe a reflection of the many waterfalls around the area. It is also the birth place of Bob Marley and Marcus Garvey. It also offers a variety of cultural experiences Marley’s mausoleum at Nine Miles, ReggaeXplosion and famous sights such as world famous Dunn’s River Falls and Fern Gully.

Known as “The Rugged Region”, you will find a beautiful, rural area called Manchester, that boasts unspoiled farms and land for as far as the eye can see. Its capital, Mandeville, is a major business center located approximately 60 miles (100 km) west of Kingston. Mandeville boost no fewer than 14 shopping centres, two hospitals (one public and one private), medical centres and doctors, next to Kingston, it provides the best medical services in the island, a major asset for tourism development. Manchester is also known for its mountainous regions with its highest point at 2770 feet (840m) above sea level and temperatures range from a low of 12.7 C (55 F) in December and January, to a high of 33 C (91 F) in July and August. Which make it a great destination for nature seeking lovers.

2022 WeGO Activities Kick-off Event

As we delve into the third year of the pandemic, WeGO is planning more activities than ever to embrace inclusivity and promote people-centered smart cities. This year, WeGO is expanding its activities to reach more audiences, while serving its members–feasibility study in Latin America, member-exclusive community platform, and smart city education program for youth.

On February 2, WeGO kicked off this new year by providing an overview of the activities for 2022. On top of this, the event served as the launching ceremony for some of WeGO’s newest program, such as the ‘WeGO Smart City Champions’. WeGO also took this opportunity to showcase its newest partners through MOU signing ceremonies.

• Moscow State University: The tallest of Moscow's Seven Sisters, it's been housing the State University since 1953, being the tallest educational building in the world with its 240m of height.
• Zuev Workers' Club: Projected by Ilya Golossov to be a recreational center for factory workers, its construction was finished in 1929 and it's still a reference in Constructivist architecture.
• Spasskaya Tower: Overlooking the Red Square, this clock tower on the Kremlin's walls was built by Milanese architect Pietro Antonio Solari back in 1491, and once the Kremlin's main entrance.
• State History Museum: The State History Museum complex has been open since 1872, and houses many artifacts, varying from pre-historical relics to artworks acquired by the old royalty.
• Mercury City Tower: The 5th tallest builing in Russia and Europe overall, this 338m tall skyscaper in the International Business Center stands out for its copper glass façade and spiky shape.
• Bolshoi Theater: First opened in 1825, it's home of the internationally renowned classical ballet company, and premiered works of composers such as Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich.

• Victor Mukhin

Victor M. Mukhin was born in 1946 in the town of Orsk, Russia. In 1970 he graduated the Technological Institute in Leningrad. Victor M. Mukhin was directed to work to the scientific-industrial organization "Neorganika" (Elektrostal, Moscow region) where he is working during 47 years, at present as the head of the laboratory of carbon sorbents.     Victor M. Mukhin defended a Ph. D. thesis and a doctoral thesis at the Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia (in 1979 and 1997 accordingly). Professor of Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia. Scientific interests: production, investigation and application of active carbons, technological and ecological carbon-adsorptive processes, environmental protection, production of ecologically clean food.
