Where wine meets the horizon

One of our favourite cities in Italy is Turin. It is far underrated, offbeat, and far less touristy than many other Italian cities. The city has been dubbed "the Paris of Italy," and it is easy to see why. Walking through Turin's grand boulevards, taking in the beautiful historical architecture, old-school tramways, and intricately designed churches, it almost feels like you're in France , but in a uniquely Italian way. Some people do not know that there is much more to do in Turin than just visiting the city centre. Within just a few minutes, you can reach beautiful vineyards and visit wineries near Turin to taste local Italian wines and food, or even to stay for a vacation.

Wine Tasting in Turin: 11 Places You Have to Try

Wine tasting in Turin

While Rome and Venice get most of the attention from foreign travelers, northern Italy has much to offer. With a gorgeous Alpine backdrop to the north and beautiful hilly countryside to the south, Turin (Torino) is a world-class travel destination. Turin not only has an envious number of museums, but the culinary scene and amazing things to do at night add even more reasons to visit the city. A big part of dining and socializing in Turin is their wine culture.

Being a major urban area, there aren’t as many Turin winery tours as in the countryside, but there are plenty of world-class wine bars to choose from. Many of these are situated alongside historic piazzas, have views of the River Po, or are located near renowned institutions like the Egyptian Museum . Because the city’s wine scene focuses more on cafes and enotecas, you’ll find plenty of variety. While most establishments focus on selections from the Piedmont region, wine tastings in Turin can also showcase wines from around Italy and the world. Turin is also a jumping-off point for some of the best wine tours in Italy, so you certainly have choices!

With such an amazing wine scene, you’ll have plenty of options for where to grab a glass (or a bottle) during your stay in Turin. Drop the bags at one of Bounce’s many luggage storage locations so you can make it to every cafe, enoteca, and wine tour. Here are the best places for wine tasting in Turin:

Vineyards in Barolo, Italy

Bar Ristorante Arancia di Mezzanotte

Historic Turin has an extremely high concentration of lush public parks and historic town squares. One of the most charming is the Emanuele Filiberto Square, which was modeled in the Parisian style and dates back to the 19th century. Surrounding the square are rows of your quintessential Italian businesses. There are gelaterias, cafés, bakeries, restaurants, and of course, a world-class wine bar.

Arancia de Mezzanotte is a traditional Italian restaurant that focuses on curating a menu that showcases wines from the Piedmont region as well as other Italian specialties. They have a narrow (by American standards) but not cramped dining room that fills up in the evenings, but their sidewalk patio seating along the square is the most coveted. If you’ve done a wine tasting elsewhere and are in the mood for something different, try a refreshing spritz and some finger food. Or better yet, order a bottle of a Piedmont red for the table and enjoy the crisp alpine air on the patio. Their friendly and knowledgeable staff will help you navigate the menu.

Piazza Emanuele Filiberto, 11I, 10122 Torino TO, Italy

BEVA Vini & Ristoro

Beva is one of Turin’s standouts in terms of the ever-trendy natural wine category. This bar and restaurant serve delicious organic and unfiltered local and regional wines alongside their menu of modern Italian dishes. They focus on food and wine pairings, so the staff will be very helpful in helping you put an order together.

One of the better features of their wine menu has to be their modern offerings. Hipster foodies and traditionalist wine snobs alike will love this place. BEVA frequently hosts wine tastings and other events, so check their calendar! If you’re putting together your own Turin wine tour, this is a must-hit spot.

Via Alessandria, 3/d, 10152 Torino TO, Italy

Enoteca Prunotto

The classic Italian enoteca is one of the true joys for wine enthusiasts. Part bar, part deli, an enoteca is a great place for wine tastings because you have a way to sample wines while talking to a bartender, as well as an ample selection of bottles you can take home. Enoteca Prunotto is one of the best places to taste wine in Turin because of its comfortable, casual layout, as well as the bartenders and owners who are there to guide you through their impressive selection of international, regional, and local wines.

This place can get slightly crowded on weekends and evenings because locals absolutely love it here. They serve the local Grappa wine variety. This boozy and robust style is a favorite among locals and is a must-try if you’re visiting Turin and the Piedmont region. Enoteca Prunotto is also a great place to buy specialty cheeses, cured meats, olives, and all the best specialty foods for making a picnic or party tray. They serve coffee and have a selection of pastries as well. Because of its casual atmosphere, this is an easy place to walk up to for a glass of wine and some lighter bites, and this is the perfect spot to land after a day of sightseeing or a quick drink before a sit-down dinner.

Corso Vercelli, 70, 10155 Torino TO, Italy

Food and Wine Tasting Tour at Piedmont Region Winery

The Piedmont wine region is such a legendary and fertile area for the production of wine that it’s been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. World-renowned names like Dolcetto & Gabi, Moscato , Brachetto, and (perhaps the most famous) Barolo all call this region home. In terms of day trips from Turin, driving out to the country for a walking tour of wine country is one of your best options. You’ll learn about the rich history of local wines and how they are produced, and yes, there will be samples. Vineyards regularly offer wine tastings, and there will be an educational aspect of visiting the vineyard that is a crucial part of a memorable wine day tour.

Easily the most appealing parts of these walking tours are viewing the beautiful grounds and where the wine is made, meeting the experts that make the wine, and sampling the wine. These companies are generally family-run, so you’ll meet with people who are genuinely passionate about this industry and the product. Two of these Piedmont-based institutions are the Barolo and Sobrero families. They both own and tend to large plots of beautiful land, and they are the grandchildren or great-grandchildren of the founders of these incredible companies.

These wineries will not only have the grapevines, large vats, equipment, and everything else needed to produce wine, but they will also have tasting rooms and wine cellars full of vintages. Tour guides will walk you through the grounds explaining the various stages of production. The tours will end with a wine tasting session where you’ll sample the delicious products and even discuss them with the winery’s expert staff.

There are a few options for day trips and walking tours heading from Turin city centre out to the hills of the Langhe and Piedmont countryside. There are ones that are full-day trips and include the ride from Turin, and there are walking tours that can be booked directly with the winery, so choose the one that fits your schedule.

Best places to go wine tasting in Turin

Il Carlino Ubriaco

This is the definition of a “neighborhood spot” in that the clientele is almost entirely locals, and the owner is usually working the bar and cheerfully talking with regulars. While the food is great, you’ll want to stop in for a few glasses from their tasting menu or share a bottle of wine and some light bites before heading to one of the neighborhood’s exceptional restaurants. The snacks on the menu are not to be overlooked. Il Carlino Ubriaco specializes in hyper-local delicacies like Acciughe al Verde, which are salty anchovies with a heavy dose of garlic. Their cheese and salami plates are certainly dependable as well.

Il Carlino Ubriaco has a nice selection of sparkling white wine, which is perfect for hanging out on their patio during a summer afternoon. They also have a wide selection of regional wine options from Piedmont and Langhe. The staff is friendly, but the vibe is more casual than the geeky energy you can feel at some of the more intentional wine bars. Il Carlino Ubriaco is, first and foremost, a comfortable and relaxed place to eat and drink. It just so happens to have an incredible wine selection.

Via Luigi Galvani, 9/a, 10144 Torino TO, Italy

This traditional Italian trattoria is another charming spot located near the Parco del Valentino. There is a nice, old-school atmosphere and a casual food menu that pairs well with the ambiance. While most locals will be drinking a spritz or aperitif in the afternoons, local (and traveling) wine enthusiasts flock here for the reasonable prices, deep selection, and friendly crowd. Reservations are recommended, but if you’re in a pinch, the owner and staff are friendly and accommodating.

Via S. Pio V, 30/F, 10125 Torino TO, Italy

Found near the world-famous Egyptian Museum, Pepino is one of Turin’s iconic wine bars. Located in a charming historic cafe, the small but comfortable Pepino overlooks the Piazza Carignano, and they offer a smaller but well-curated list of local wines. The real draw here is the quintessential charm of this cafe, but if you are interested in fine vintages from renowned wineries across the region, Pepino also has you covered.

Via dei Mercanti, 7, 10122 Torino TO, Italy

Ristorante del Cambio

This Michelin-starred restaurant has one of Turin’s deepest wine lists. With a barrel-aging cellar in its basement, they are able to offer 3,000 labels from renowned wineries across the globe. You will, of course, need to reserve a table well in advance, but with such an amazing wine list and incredible food, it’s something you should be planning an evening around. Sometimes, the best wine tastings are at a restaurant, and you can’t get better than Ristorante del Cambio. For restaurants with wine cellars, this spot should really be the model.

Piazza Carignano, 2, 10123 Torino TO, Italy

Wine bars in Torino

Rossorubino Enoteca

This is one of Turin’s most popular spots with local wine geeks. They regularly host wine tastings with visiting vintners and experts. Being an Enoteca, they have a deep list of bottles you can take home, as well as a substantial tasting menu for ordering by the glass.

Rossorubino’s shelves are stocked with some true rarities, and they have a decent selection for every price point. They are most famous for stocking Baratuciat and Montanera vintages, and their staff is extremely helpful for picking out the right bottle for you. Whether or not there is an event planned, this is should be on your go-to list for wine tastings in Turin.

Via Madama Cristina, 21, 10125 Torino TO, Italy

Spaccio Vini e Olii

While traditional, hearty Italian food pairs famously well with wine, sometimes a lighter Mediterranean dinner is more appealing, especially during the summer months. Spaccio Vini e Olii specializes in Greek, southern Spanish, and southern Italian fare and curates a wine menu that fits perfectly with the food. Understandably, the dinner menu skews heavily towards seafood. Their grilled octopus, calamari, and catch of the day are the most popular items. Their appetizers are famous, especially the simple-but-perfect anchovies and tinned fish with freshly-baked bread and artisan olive oil. All of this pairs well with imported Greek and Spanish wines. If you’ve been traveling through Italy and (as unlikely as it sounds) are craving something other than Italian food, this is a nice place to head.

Largo IV Marzo, 17, 10122 Torino TO, Italy

Trattoria Bar Coco’s

This quaint trattoria located in the San Salvario neighborhood is a mainstay in Turin’s wine scene. It’s less than a 10-minute walk from Porta Nuova, with most of the trek taking place through the beautiful Parco Del Valentino along the river. This bar is located near the city centre, and all the crowds that come with it, so expect a decent but manageable crowd on nights and weekends. Their food menu is the main attraction, with a rotating menu of specials showcasing regional cuisine. The menu leans on comfort food, like a Milanese cutlet and a seasonal risotto. Coco’s does not take reservations, so it’s advisable to either plan ahead or prepare to wait on their patio for a table. Luckily, there are several cafes nearby that are fun to pop into for a glass of wine while you wait.

The wine menu is heavily local, with the seemingly omnipresent Barbera, Dolcetto, and Barolo brands featured heavily on the list. They do glasses of wine off a tasting menu, but the real treasure trove is in their deep list. You’ll find the regional classics but also some international labels and selections from other Italian regions. If you have dinner plans elsewhere, this is a great place to pop in for a glass of wine and some appetizers, and they also serve coffee and pastries during the day. The charming atmosphere and friendly staff are worth a visit, even if it’s just for a short while. The wood-paneled interior and lovely decor make this spot seem like a snapshot in time, and with a deep wine cellar and traditional food, it just might be.

Via Bernardino Galliari, 28, 10125 Torino TO, Italy

Whether you’re passing through for just three days in Turin or staying for weeks, there are countless things to do here. The history, culture, food, and especially wine tastings are all exciting ways to spend your time in one of Northern Italy’s true gems. Travel Logistics & What to Know Before You Go

Piedmont is well-connected by road, rail, and air. The region’s main airport, Turin-Caselle, offers international flights and easy access to major cities like Turin, Asti, and Alba. You can also fly into Milan , just a couple of hours’ drive from Piedmont. Trains and buses operate throughout the region, although renting a car provides greater flexibility to explore the picturesque countryside and visit smaller wineries at your leisure. When driving, do note that Italy’s narrow and winding roads can be challenging for some; take your time and enjoy the scenery.

While Italian is the official language, you’ll find that locals are proud of their regional dialect, Piedmontese. This distinct language, though related to Italian, has its own unique charm. Although many locals speak English, especially in popular tourist areas, it’s always appreciated when visitors make an effort to learn a few Italian phrases. Start with the basics: “Buongiorno” (good morning), “Grazie” (thank you), and “Salute” (cheers)!

The Local Vibe

Piedmont’s locals are known for their warmth and hospitality. Embrace the Italian concept of “la dolce vita” (the sweet life) and take the time to truly connect with the people you meet. Visit local markets, dine at family-owned trattorias, and strike up conversations with winemakers. You’ll find that their passion for their land and their crafts is contagious, and these interactions will leave a lasting impression on your heart.

In Italy, tipping is not as customary as it is in some other countries. However, it’s always appreciated when you acknowledge exceptional service. In restaurants, a service charge may be included in the bill, but if not, a tip of around 10% is considered generous. For other services, like tour guides or taxi drivers, rounding up to the nearest euro or adding a few extra euros as a token of appreciation is a kind gesture.

Other Important Piedmont Travel Tips

As you explore Piedmont’s wineries, make sure to book your visits in advance, as many smaller wineries require reservations for tastings and tours. Dress comfortably and modestly, especially when visiting churches or religious sites. Finally, be prepared for the Italian tradition of “riposo,” the afternoon break when many shops and businesses close for a few hours. Take this time to rest, indulge in a leisurely lunch, or perhaps enjoy a rejuvenating “passeggiata” (stroll) through the stunning vineyards.

Subregions of Piedmont

This enchanting region is home to several captivating subregions, each with its own unique charm and allure. Wine enthusiasts will delight in the opportunity to visit local vineyards and wineries to learn about the meticulous process of crafting Gavi di Gavi wines. You’ll also have the chance to sample different expressions of this versatile white wine, which boasts a broad range of flavors from zesty citrus to delicate floral notes.

This subregion is also home to a variety of charming towns, where you can indulge in delicious cuisine, explore historic sites, and experience the warmth of Piedmont’s hospitality.

Piedmont Grape Varieties

The main grape varieties found in Piedmont include Nebbiolo, Barbera , and Dolcetto for red wines, and Moscato, Cortese , and Arneis for white wines. Nebbiolo, the king of Piedmont grapes, is the grape responsible for the region’s most prestigious wines, Barolo and Barbaresco. These wines are celebrated for their complex aromas, structured tannins, and excellent aging potential. Barbera and Dolcetto are more approachable, producing fruity, easy-drinking reds. Moscato, on the other hand, is the primary grape in Asti, yielding sweet, aromatic sparkling wines, while Cortese and Arneis are used for crisp, refreshing white wines.

What makes Piedmont truly special is the harmony between its unique landscape, passionate winemakers, and time-honored traditions. The fog that often blankets the region’s rolling hills plays a crucial role in the ripening process of the grapes, creating an air of mystique and romance. The deep connection between the people and the land is palpable, as generations of families have tended to the vineyards and crafted exceptional wines that reflect the essence of Piedmont.

Cuisine of Piedmont

In addition, the region’s rich culinary heritage, which includes dishes like truffles, risotto, and braised meats, complements the wines and further elevates the gastronomic experience. Piedmont’s unique combination of natural beauty, diverse terroir, and dedication to preserving traditions, alongside its world-class wines, makes it a truly enchanting destination for wine enthusiasts and casual drinkers alike.

  • Wine Tour in Piedmont

Wine tradition has very ancient origins here, despite the lack of space for grape growing - that is generally carried out on the hills - a feature that Piedmontese people have turned to their advantage since the amount of wine produced is scaled to maintain quality.

Each single province in Piemonte is famous for the production of a particular type of wine that generally stands out for a special climatic characteristic and for a specific cultivation technique. The province of Turin presents a wide variety of production, from red to dry or sweet white wines. Doc certified wines produced here Barbera, Erbaluce di Caruso (a good white wine produced in the Canavese area, on the hills between Biella and Turin) and Freisa.

Piedmontese Wines are, nowadays, considered between the Best Italian Wines. Here a brief description:

The most famous Piedmontese wine is undoubtely, the Barolo , produced in the South-west of Alba, in the so-called Langa del Barolo . It's a wine with unique characteristics that are due to the comlex geological profile of the area. Its history is important: already in 18th century it was beloved everywhere in Europe and in the beginning of 19th century, it began to be produced with the present characteristics.

It's an ancient delicate Piemonte's wine, around 12 degrees with a ruby red colour, and it's obtained by a wine grape called Bonarda piemontese . It is produced almost in the whole Piemonte, but most of all in the area in the south of the Alps between Turin and Novara and in the Monferrato, which is a hill part of the region of Piemonte.

This very ancient ruby red wine (the name dates back before the year 1000) is between the most drunk wines in Piemonte and it is also quoted in the classic Italian literature by great poets as Giosue Carducci and Giovanni Pascoli. There are 4 different DOC typologies: Barbera d'Alba , with a dry and a little bit acid flavour, of an alcoholic gradation of 12 degrees and at least one-year-aged ; Barbera d'Asti , this too with dry and acid flavour, of at least 12,5 degrees and one-year-aged; Barbera dei Colli Tortonesi , dry, spirited and strong wine, of at least 12 degrees, it can be produced, besides with the Barbera's grapes, also with a 15% of Freisa's, Bonarda's and Dolcetto's grapes; finally Barbera del Monferrato , of blood red colour and of dry flavour, made with Barbera grapes from 75 to 90% and an addition of Freisa, Grignolino and Dolcetto grapes, can be slightly sparkling; it can be drunk "young", that is already the following year after the grape harvest.

It's a dark-red wine whose name comes from French fraise (strawberry), its smell. Two different varieties exist: the sweet one and the dry one, but both were born from the homonym grape and can be drunk the year after the grape harvest. During the plague pestilences of 16th century, in Chieri it was used as the only remedy against the contagion. It comes from two different origin areas, Asti and Chieri: the Freisa d'Asti has a garnet-red colour or also a light cherry red and a decisive raspberry perfume (and taste too); Freisa of Chieri in the colour tends to the not too much intensive ruby and when it's "young" has a slightly acid taste, which becomes softer getting older.

Erbaluce , also called Albaluce , is a white wine obtained from the homonym grape, overgrowed in the area of Caluso and of the lake of Candia, in the province of Turin. Although it's really sought-after by wine experts for its good qualities of wine for meals, nowadays it's a not very famous wine.

Erbaluce has a straw yellow colour, a sharp and fresh taste, usually reaches 11 degrees and it is drunk by its first year of life.

The Piemonte's Malvasie are red, sweet, fragrant slightly aromatic wines. Around the name's origins exist a legend: in the feudalism age, a certain Adimaro, colonist of the liege lord of Nus, was surprised by the latter while he was taking some wine for the parish priest into the church, obtained by a farmed vineyard, but the landowner was unaware of this. The liege lord wanted to know what kind of liquid it was, and Adimaro answered: "mauve juice". The landowner didn't believe him, and wanted to taste it; then Adimaro, being scared of his anger, invoked a miracle: "may the mauve be, please, my God", and the wine really turned into mauve juice; From then onwards, it would remain the name "malva - sia" (that is, "mauve - be"). Malvasia di Casorzo can be produced with additions until 10% to the Malvasia grape and it has a ruby red or a cherry red colour; Malvasia di Castelnuovo Don Bosco is made with the Malvasia grape of Schierano with addition of Freisa and is cherry-red-coloured; both wines don't go over 10,5 degrees and not all are developped in alcohol, but it still has a sugar content (some sparkling wine varieties also exist); usually it must be drunk the year after the grape harvest.

According to the tradition, the Passito di Caluso was born in Canavese in the first centuries after the year 1000, because in that period the "Greek wine" was greeted enthusiastically, a type of a sweet and strongly aromatic wine rich of alcohol; the Piemonte's producers began in this way to farm suitable vineyards and still today in Piemonte many vineyards are called "Greek". It's the only wine in Italy which needs at least six months to naturally wither (that is, with no straining), from the first days of september to the end of february of the year after the grape harvest, then the bunches are arranged or hanged up on the threads, and only after 4 years of obsolescence, and 5 for the "stock" it can be sold and drunk. Caluso Passito, moreover, is one of the few wines which hold up obsolescence: a Caluso Passito of over 50 years ago still preserves all its qualities. It has a golden colour or similar to dark-amber, a sweet and velvety flavour and at least 13,5 degrees; it's a typical dessert wine, but can also be with cheese and for "metidation".

The great wines of Piemonte are not from Turin, but it is a great booze: the vermouth . Infact, although the name comes from the German "assenzio, bitter", the booze has indeed Turin's origins. Infact, vermouth is a "tricked" wine with herbs and spices, and has on the contrary ancient origins: the first testimony of its existence dates back to the 400 b.C. and in the ancient Greece the drink was largely widespread. In the Middle Age the aromatical wine enriched of spices which came from the far East and, later, from the South America. The first italian capital of aromatica wine production was Venice, but the region of Piemonte (and especially Turin) became the international landmark because the herbs and the aromas of the Alps and the dry wines production gave a notable advantage. The tradition tells that in Turin the vermouth has been invented in 1786 in a small workshop under the Porches of a current piazza Castello (Castellos Square), Mr Marendazzo's property, whose helper was Antonio Benedetto Carpano. This boy, who arrived in Turin from Biella, liked the muscat wine very much, and decided to obtain an aromatical wine, by adding herbs and spices of his valley, according to ancient recipes learned from some friars. It was in this way that vermouth was born, and the small workshop became soon a meeting place for Turin's inhabitants, who were enthusiastic of the new aromatical wine; even the duke Vittorio Amedeo 3rd appreciated the new wine so much that he proclaimed it "court's aperitive". Carpano's recipe was just a variation of the ones which were already far-back known from Turin's producers, but it was the first which gave the impulse to the great production of Italian Il bisogno d'affetto è notevole, anche se non amate darlo a vedere in uno stile zuccheroso. In 19th century the great vermouth producers began to export their product, firstly to Europe and then to America; still today the vermouth is the 25% of wine Italian exports in the world.

And now some suggestion. Eat the typical antipasti, either cold or warm, with Freisa , a wine characterized by delicate fragrance produced from 17th century on the hills surrounding Turin. Choose Erbaluce di Caluso , white wine with fruity perfume, together with the first dishes fresh pasta based (for example the agnolotti ) and fish as a second dish; with meat and game, try red wines with strong flavour, as Barbera and Bonarda . If also desserts want their wines, we give you an advice: choose the sweet, perfumed and excellent Malvasia ; for the discriminating tastes, we advice instead to try the velvety flavour of the white Caluso , especially with stuffed pies and zabaione .

Girl's Gotta Drink - To Barolo and beyond!

Barolo Wine Tours from Turin and Milan

barolo wine tour from turin

Looking for Barolo wine tours from Turin and Milan? We’ve got you!

Some of the best day trips from Turin or Milan take you in the heart of Barolo Italy wine country for an exploration of the wine, food, and culture. The travel time isn’t so bad if you have a car or use a driver service.

A train is a great way to go from Turin to Alba or Asti, but Milan to Alba or Asti is much more time consuming. So, consider factors and costs before

Barolo wine tours from Turin

Barolo wine tour from turin, by train .

Turin is Piedmont wine region’s capital city and roughly about 50 km / 32 miles from Turin. Barolo Italy is easily one of the best day trips from Turin to explore food, wine, and culture. And, the beauty of Barolo wine country is simply breathtaking.

So how do you do it? The train is super easy, safe (no driving!), and a cost effective way to do Barolo wine tours from Turin. I direct my Turin-based clients by train, either into Asti or Turin to Alba via one of the two railway stations.

  • Turin to Asti is done via the Torino Porta Nuova Station, which is located about 10 minutes on foot from the city center. Trains run at least hourly with others throughout the day, cost is about 5.80 eu / each. The hourly route has you to Asti in about 35 minutes.
  • Turin to Alba is done via the Torino Porta Susa Station, about a 20-minute walk to the city center and serviced easily by bus or metro. Trains run hourly and cost about 6.30 eu with a Turin to Alba travel time of 1 hour 23 minutes each way

From the train station, your guide picks you out front and off you go to explore the noble nebbiolo grape with Barbaresco and Barolo wine tastings. Your Barolo wine tour guide returns you to the station about 17:00 / 17:30 to get you back to Turin in time for dinner!

For my complete breakdown of Turin to Alba or Asti by train, with times, routes, and considerations, c lick here .

barolo wine tours from milan

Barolo wine tours from Turin, by car

Turin to alba: drive yourself.

By car, drive time for some Barolo wine tasting is a little over an hour. For a Barolo tour, we’ll set a meeting point for you to drop your car and be driven around for the tour. Of course, that does mean someone is driving back at the end of the day.

Turin to Alba Driver services

Many of my clients don’t want to drive at all in Italy and certainly not after a day of wine tasting. So for those who don’t want to train it, we arrange professional driver service with door-to-door service. The driver picks you up directly at your lodging, then transfers you to the first winery where your Barolo wine tour guide is waiting for you. There, transfer to the guide’s car for tour program transportation. The driver picks up at the last winery and returns you to your lodging in Turin.

Barolo wine tour from Milan

I’ve had clients do a Barolo wine tour from Milan via train into Alba or Asti, but it’s not easy – typically you have at least one, maybe two, train changes, and at least one is a slower train. That means you’ll be getting up to leave early and return late. If you want to go this route, let’s talk about it when you book and I’ll help you select the best route that is less likely to have train mishaps (think delays or cancellations) and the easiest way into the area.

If you are driving to the area, plan on at least 2 hours of drive time and buffer in a bit more if you are coming from Milan’s city center and departing between about 8:00 and 9:30. If you are driving in, we’ll give you a parking lot meeting point where you can leave your vehicle all day and ride with your Barolo wine tour guide.

Milan to Alba Driver services

For Barolo wine tours from Milan, I recommend (and my Girl’s Gotta Drink guests tend to prefer) a driver service for door-to-door service. It’s a little more costly since it’s further away, but you are comfortably riding with a driver the entire day.

The driver picks you up directly at your Milan lodging, then transfers you to the first winery where your Barolo wine tour guide meets you. You move to the guide’s car for your tour transportation. The driver picks you up at the last winery and returns you to your lodging in Milan.

Book Your Barolo wine tours from Turin or Milan

If you have some unique circumstances in your plans, note it in your Barolo wine tour request and we’ll work it out together.

Book a joinable, open group, or private Barolo wine tour from Girl’s Gotta Drink. If you are more interested in the area’s culinary delights, we can work that into your program. And, if you want more ideas for the best day trips from Turin or Milan, I’d love to help!
