I'm a Brazilian journalist who always loved Classic Rock and Heavy Metal music. That passion inspired me to create Rock and Roll Garage over 6 years ago. Music has always been a part of my life, helping me through tough times and being a support to celebrate the good ones. When I became a journalist, I knew I wanted to write about my passions. After graduating in journalism from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais, I pursued a postgraduate degree in digital communication at the same institution. The studies and experience in the field helped me improve the website and always bring the best of classic rock to the world! MTB: 0021377/MG

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.
We have a soft spot for bands named after places.
There’s classic rockers America , Boston and Kansas , country stalwarts Alabama and indie veterans Phoenix .
You can’t forget the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Chicago though.
The band that brought the world love ballads like “If You Leave Me Now,” “You’re The Inspiration” and “Hard To Say I’m Sorry” as well as FM radio staples “25 or 6 to 4,” “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is” and “Saturday In The Park” will bring their classics to venues all over North America this year.
That includes quite a few stops in the Big Apple and Garden State.
On April 15, Chicago will play Atlantic City’s Etess Arena at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino . Following that big night, the group will perform at Staten Island’s St. George Theatre on April 16, Morristown, NJ’s Mayo Performing Arts Center on April 18 and April 19 and Verona, NY’s Turning Stone Resort and Casino Event Center on April 22.
Then, two months later they return to the Northeast for gigs at Rochester, NY’s Kodak Center on June 21, Westbury, NY’s NYCB Theatre on June 23, Farmingville, NY’s Amphitheater at Bald Hill on June 24 and New Brunswick’s State Theatre on June 25 .
And we’re just getting started. The band has over 60 concerts scheduled this year .
Not bad for a band that’s been touring since 1967.
Best of all, some tickets are going for as low as $29 before fees on Vivid Seats.
Want to see Chicago live?
Here’s everything you need to know about how you can make that happen this year.
All prices were found at the time of publication and are subject to fluctuation.
Chicago 2023 tour schedule
The self-described “rock and roll band with horns” will first fulfill the final dates of their Las Vegas residency at the Venetian Theater from Feb. 24 through March 11.
Soon after that, they’ll hit the road for huge concerts in Baltimore on April 21, Milwaukee on May 9, Kansas City on May 26, Cincinnati on July 6 and Phoenix on Aug. 18.
As of now, the final show booked for Chicago in 2023 will take place at Boise’s Idaho Botanical Garden on Sept. 3.
A complete calendar including all tour dates, venues, show start times and links to buy tickets can be found here .
Chicago new music
56 years deep into their storied career, Chicago is still creating.
In July 2022, the band featuring original members Robert Lamm (keyboard, vocals), Lee Loughnane (trumpet, flugelhorn, backing vocals), James Pankow (trombone, backing vocals), Walter Parazaider (saxophones, flute, clarinet, backing vocals) and new lead vocalist Neil Donell released their 26th studio album “Born For This Moment.”
Comprised of 14 songs, the record is a jazzy throwback to the band’s signature, lively sound.
And for our money, “Our New York Time” is a standout track that wouldn’t be out of place on one of the group’s classic ’60s and ’70s albums.
If you want to hear the horn-heavy record for yourself, you can find it here .
Chicago set list
Chicago closed their 2022 tour in November and appears to have had a fairly standard set list at each show.
Still, they don’t phone it in — the band regularly plays 25+ songs when they perform.
While we can’t predict what you’ll hear when you see the band live in 2023, here’s what they played live last year courtesy of Set List FM .
01.) “Introduction” 02.) “Dialogue (Part I & II)” 03.) “Questions 67 & 68” 04.) “Call on Me” 05.) “Wake Up Sunshine” 06.) “(I’ve Been) Searchin’ So Long” 07.) “Mongonucleosis” 08.) “If This Is Goodbye” 09.) “If You Leave Me Now” 10.) “Make Me Smile” 11.) “So Much to Say, So Much to Give” 12.) “Anxiety’s Moment” 13.) “West Virginia Fantasies” 14.) “Colour My World” 15.) “To Be Free” 16.) “Now More Than Ever” 17.) “Alive Again” 18.) “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?” 19.) “Old Days” 20.) “Hard Habit to Break” 21.) “You’re the Inspiration” 22.) “Beginnings” 23.) “I’m a Man” (The Spencer Davis Group cover) (With percussion duet) 24.) “Just You ‘n’ Me” 25.) “Hard to Say I’m Sorry / Get Away” 26.) “Saturday in the Park” 27.) “Feelin’ Stronger Every Day”
28.) “Free” 29.) “25 or 6 to 4”
For those who would like to see what Chicago played way back when they were The Chicago Transit Authority in the late 60s before they shortened their name to Chicago, you can find all set lists from their history dating back to 1967 here .

25th anniversary tour of 'Chicago' brings 'Razzle Dazzle' to OKC: What you need to know
More than 25 years after its wildly successful revival, the iconic musical "Chicago" has lost none of its "Razzle Dazzle."
While the themes are still as timely as ever, the Tony Award-winning tale of murder, greed and all that jazz is literally the stuff of legends: Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse wrote the book for the show, a sultry and sophisticated satire about the American press, criminal justice system and obsession with celebrity. "Chicago" boasts one of the all-time great musical theater scores , with music by John Kander and lyrics by Ebb, and it remains one of the most popular showcases for Fosse's distinctively jazzy choreography .
An add-on special to OKC Broadway's 2023-24 subscription season , the national tour of "Chicago" is playing Oklahoma City for the first time in a decade , with performances continuing through Sunday, April 14 at Civic Center Music Hall.
What is the musical 'Chicago' about?
The longest-running show currently playing on Broadway , "Chicago" is set in the 1920s and inspired by true events. Initially written as a 1926 play by journalist Maurine Dallas Watkins , the musical adaptation's original Broadway production bowed in 1975 and starred Chita Rivera , Jerry Orbach and Gwen Verdon . It ran for more than 900 performances and was nominated for 11 Tonys, but shut out by another dance smash, "A Chorus Line."
Starring Bebe Neuwirth, Joel Grey and Ann Reinking — a replacement performer from the original Broadway production who reprised the role and choreographed the show "in the style of Bob Fosse" — it was the 1996 Broadway revival that turned "Chicago" into an iconic song-and-dance extravaganza. It earned six Tonys, including best musical revival, and is being celebrated with the 25th anniversary tour now playing OKC.
The deliciously dastardly story follows Roxie Hart (2021 Oklahoma City University alumnus Katie Frieden ), a vain and ambitious housewife and nightclub dancer who dreams of becoming a vaudeville star. When her illicit lover, Fred Casely (Ed Gotthelf), tries to ditch her, hotheaded Roxie guns him down and tries to get her devoted but dim-witted husband Amos (Robert Quiles) to take the blame.
That doesn't work, so Roxie is locked up on the women's block in the Cook County Jail, where several "merry murderesses" are awaiting trial for killing their no-good husbands or boyfriends. The block is run by corrupt Matron "Mama" Morton (Illeana "illy" Kirven), who is happy to help the inmates use the charges against them to gain fame and fortunate — but only for a price.
Desperate to avoid being hanged for murder, Roxie sets out to outwit the public, the press and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly (Kailin Brown), a cynical ex-vaudeville star rightly accused of slaying her cheating husband and sister in a jealous rage. Roxie enlists Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer, Billy Flynn (Connor Sullivan), to both cast her as a sympathetic figure so she can avoid conviction and nab her enough scandalous headlines so that she can launch the show-biz career of her dreams.
How does the 25th anniversary tour of 'Chicago' measure up to all that jazz?
It's not hard to figure out why "Chicago" is the second-longest running title in Broadway history: The show boasts a tantalizing trio of iconic smashes with "All That Jazz," "Razzle Dazzle" and "Cell Block Tango," but there's not a single dud on the list of musical numbers.
And for dance fans, "Chicago" is arguably the ultimate musical theater experience. The 25th anniversary tour is directed by David Hyslop with choreography by Gregory Butler based on the original direction by Tony winner Walter Bobbie and Reinking's original Tony-winning choreography. Although it leaves out the finger snaps, it maintains the rest of Fosse's signature moves, from the sultry shoulder, hip and wrist rolls and the cheekily turned-in knees to the famous jazz hands and the canny use of chairs, walking sticks and bowler hats.
The minimalist set design by Tony winner John Lee Beatty puts the song-and-dance spectacle right up front: The stage is dominated by a multi-tiered riser showcasing the sizzling jazz orchestra under the direction of Cameron Blake Kinnear, who frequently interacts with the actors and mugs for the crowd.
The skilled and athletic ensemble clearly was assembled with a focus on making sure the dance sequences dazzle, with plenty of dizzying spins, high kicks and jaw-dropping lifts that often had the audience for the April 10 OKC performance audibly oohing and ahhing.
There were moments that it seemed like the show had sacrified vocal power in favor of dance prowess: The singers were occasionally drowned out by the musicians on challenging yet crowd-pleasing numbers like "Cell Block Tango" and "All That Jazz." But their dynamite dancing made it seem like a worthwhile trade-off.
Brown possessed both the skills and the style to wow on the tricky dance-centric number "When Velma Takes the Stand," but she and Kirven also delivered a duet on "Class" that was both vocally pleasing and ripe with irony. Quiles' turn as Roxie's sad-sack spouse never failed to provoke sympathy, especially on his stellar white-gloved rendition of Amos' ode "Mister Cellophane."
A graduate of OCU's Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Entertainment, Frieden proved she is a triple-threat in the making, delivering sharp dance moves, expressive acting and stalwart vocals on her big numbers "Roxie" and "Me and My Baby." She and Sullivan practically stopped the show with their excellent teamwork on "We Both Reached for the Gun," as Billy literally controls Roxie like a ventriloquist with a dummy during a pivotal press conference.
Starring Renée Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Richard Gere, Rob Marshall's Oscar-winning 2002 film adaptation helped popularize "Chicago" and its songs. But for most musical theater fans (myself included), it's practically impossible for a movie to beat the energy of a live performance, especially when it comes to a show as razzle-dazzle as "Chicago."

Ethiopia’s Qwanqwa swing a danceable blend of the traditional and modern

Qwanqwa are an Addis Ababa–based ensemble founded by American five-string violinist and Debo Band veteran Kaethe Hostetter in 2012. The group’s shifting intergenerational lineup has included many stellar players over the years, notably Mesele Asmamaw, a vocalist and master of the electric krar, a lyrelike stringed instrument with a very flexible voice; he’s released traditional and avant-garde solo albums and collaborated with Dutch punk explorers the Ex. Asmamaw is no longer with the band, but these days Hostetter is joined by Bubu Teklemariam on bass krar, Misale Legesse on kebero (a double-headed hand drum), and Endris Hassan on masinko (a single-string bowed lute), as well as vocalist and dancer Selamnash Zemene.
Qwanqwa’s three full-lengths, Volume One (2014), Volume Two (2015), and Volume Three (2020), are fascinating records that move with masterful fluidity between traditional and modern, integrating ancient forms with club music and psychedelia. The group’s name translates to “language” in English, and they treat music like the universal language we know it to be. They strive to dazzle in concert halls and jazz clubs while remaining accessible to the proverbial “person in the street” anywhere in the world. It’s an ambitious goal, but Qwanqwa make it feel within reach.
“Sewoch,” from Volume Three , has a bluesy swing and an interlude of pure trippy funk; the rollicking Volume Two instrumental “Kemekem” jam-packs elements of rock riffing, jazz improv, and deft string picking into a slinky three minutes, with the individual instruments soaring nearly like singers. Qwanqwa’s sound fits within the 60s and 70s tradition of world-beat psychedelia, which carries with it optimism about cross-cultural interaction—it believes that the joy of music and the wonder of hearing the brand-new wrapped in the familiar can be powerful weapons against dehumanization. The epic closing track of Volume Three , “Serg,” is really multiple songs in one—it’s a nearly 20-minute medley of wedding songs from the region, driven by strings, rhythms, and Asmamaw’s vocals into a transcendental jam. I’d say strap in for the ride, but you don’t want to be held down for this one. Qwanqwa have become familiar faces on the African and European festival circuits, but their current U.S. tour is only their second time in the country. They’ve come to Chicago on both trips: in 2022 to the Hyde Park Jazz Festival , and this week to the Old Town School of Folk Music.

On the heels of their CMT Music Awards collaboration, Little Big Town and Sugarland have announced the “Take Me Home” Tour. Titled after the song they performed on the CMTs — Phil Collins ’ 1985 hit from No Jacket Required — the trek will kick off Oct. 24 in Greenville, South Carolina, and conclude Dec. 13 with a show at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Country trio the Castellows will open all dates.
This isn’t the first time the quartet of Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook, and Philip Sweet shared the stage with Sugarland, the reunited duo of Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush. In 2008, Little Big Town, Sugarland, and Jake Owen performed Dream Academy’s 1985 single “Life in a Northern Town” at the CMT Awards, and LBT would join Sugarland on their Incredible Machine Tour a few years later.

Music and concerts | this musician’s stash of post-punk music memories could fill a museum — so he did.
On a quiet block just west of Halsted Street in Bridgeport, a former funeral home now houses a collection of memories — both physical and emotional — so niche, so random, it almost shouldn’t exist.
Martin Atkins, a longtime musician (Public Image Ltd., Pigface, Nine Inch Nails, Killing Joke) and producer, and lecturer at Millikin University in Decatur, opened the Museum of Post Punk and Industrial Music in 2021, though its curation started long before then. Unlike the precious or sterile museums that pepper the Gold Coast, Atkins’ space is a reflection of the community that’s continued to buoy the noisy, subversive genre since the ‘80s and early ‘90s, as well as the musicians and collaborators that helped breathe life into it.
Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by the “Fook Babies” — a 14-foot stage backdrop made by special effects and creature artist Tim Gore (“The Walking Dead”) for Pigface’s 1993 tour behind what is arguably the band’s most acclaimed album, 1992’s “Fook” — leering down from behind a cage from Ministry’s infamous Cage Tour. A small gift shop with reissued vinyl, Dark Matter Coffee’s specialty museum blends and voodoo dolls of Atkins occupies a room on the right side of the hallway before entering the main showroom. You can almost smell the dirty clubs, sweat and old leather boots as you enter and see Atkins’ drum kit from Nine Inch Nails’ “Head Like a Hole” music video front and center. Original artwork by My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult’s Groovie Mann (born Franke Nardiello) hangs across from it, surrounded by so many photos, shadowboxed capsules, original art, tour suits and posters it could make you dizzy.
Initially conceptualized in 2020, Atkins used to display and discuss his trinkets and memorabilia casually while on the road — things kept to remember his fame’s “15 minutes.” Partially inspired by late rapper Nipsey Hussle’s Marathon store and entrepreneurial empire, what he had always considered “random, artistic pursuits” slowly began to present themselves as so much more.
For nearly three years now, what began as the home of his label Invisible Records turned gallery that housed Atkins’ pieces from his 40-plus year career has unfolded into an unexpected place for camaraderie and inspiration — within the city’s creative communities and post-punk and industrial music fans of all ages across the globe. Visitors and independent collectors trading in nostalgia started donating their mementos, mailing Atkins their ticket stubs, flyers, tour merchandise and photos to enshrine. They’re given the chance to become “founders” of the museum, which includes access to museum-hosted events such as a Whiskey Pancake Brunch, priority spaces for tours and the opportunity to spend the night. By Atkins’ count, there are now over 1,400 museum founders. Even well-known musicians like members of The Dandy Warhols, Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Wax Trax! Records stalwarts KMFDM stop in when they’re in town. Chris Connelly of Revolting Cocks and Ministry has been known to take in an event or two in the space.
“If I can show you some things?” Atkins asks as he gives a tour. He stops in front of a small Nine Inch Nails announcement from 2007. “What’s all so strange is,” he says, “I never know what tiny (expletive) insignificant shit is gonna set somebody off, you know?”
He says that a guest once cried in front of the small cut-out displayed alongside other flyers, stickers and stencils. Others found themselves exchanging stories of specific concerts, albums and the subculture itself. Tours are typically three to four hours in length and some folks spend just as long shopping afterward. Though the museum’s website lists visiting “by appointment only” and the address is undisclosed, Atkins has been known to oblige folks who get last-minute recommendations to check it out from other local Bridgeport businesses like Jackalope Coffee & Tea House and Tangible Books.
“People who come here and freak out over the stuff, it’s ridiculous,” Atkins continues, not judgmentally, more surprised by the outpouring of support he’s received for his semi-accidental endeavor. “People take away those things. But sometimes it’s their kids looking at the fashion stuff, looking at how careers got started making suits for band members and stuff. I think we’re going deep enough that a fan of any one of these bands could sit here for half a day crying, remembering, and going on their own internal journey.”
When doors first opened, the collection displayed within the museum’s walls was about 98% Atkins’ own. By his estimates now, it’s about 50% his, possibly even less. Joking that only maybe his mother and sister would be interested in visiting a place that felt like “Martin Atkins presents Things Involving Martin Atkins,” he’s grateful that he and his small but mighty team have stumbled into the contribution of objects. A 1986 cassette tape Trent Reznor gave him of what are considered the earliest Nine Inch Nails demos, which Atkins sold on eBay in 2010 for $1,400, made its way back to him around Christmas last year. Another fan donated the original lederhosen worn by Throbbing Gristle’s late Genesis P-Orridge when she developed her satirical, provocative “Eva Adolf Braun Hitler” character, who appeared on stage and in a number of short films for Pigface.
When looking through the thousands of pieces that have made their way to the little house, the question remains — what is museum-worthy? But that element of D.I.Y. and spontaneity behind throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks is still the ethos behind PPIM. It’s even evolved into a sort-of love letter to what first drew Atkins to Chicago, considered by many the birthplace of industrial music, known for Wax Trax! Records, Chicago Trax Recording, Touch and Go Records, The Metro, Lounge Ax, The Alley, Club Neo and one Cynthia “Plaster Caster” Albritton. Albritton, the avant-garde artist most famous for her casts of musicians’ erect penises and later women’s breasts, cast Atkins in 1996. A corner of the museum was dedicated to her after she died in 2022.
Though the museum is a glimpse at what once was, Atkins has long been an advocate for the city’s independent artists since moving to Chicago in 1989. Local post-punk outfit Ganser — who he considers good friends — have a drumhead on display, and he often hosts or participates in student events, panels for those interested in industry careers, and workshops for emerging talent. He’s collaborated with After School Matters and cohorts like the Center for Creative Entrepreneurship out of Portage Park incubator, 2112 Chicago. In the museum’s recording studio basement, Atkins offers these visitors the chance at an introductory screen-printing lesson or to mix a song on Steve Albini’s old tape machines in the recording studio basement.
“I’d like it to have an educational component, because how could this not?” he says of larger ambitions. “If it’s not educational, I’d be doing something wrong. If you have a class that’s doing punk, post-punk, industrial — throw the textbooks away and just come here and smell it. Use this as a spot where students can learn about event management.”
He continues, “I get the sense the kids hear, ‘Oh we’re going to a museum’ and they’re like ‘Oh (expletive),’ but then they come in here and we’ll go downstairs and print T-shirts. I’m trying to show entrepreneurial, DIY commerce and transferable skills. This one kid was like ‘I always wanted to start a merch company’ and I’m like ‘You just did, didn’t you?’”
As PPIM continues to adapt, expanding accessibility is at the forefront of Atkins’ mind. He’s considering an online archive for interviews, photographs, and things that have yet to find a space onsite as well as a platform for virtual tours and experiences that can reach folks unable to travel to Chicago.
Marking its upcoming three-year anniversary with open house tours, Atkins laughs when asked if there’s a real “plan” for the future of his museum.
“I think I was sitting upstairs and I thought to myself, ‘Well that’s it. You’ve had a good run of complete (expletive) insanity, and now you’re gonna be a tour guide,’” he remembers. “I was like, ‘Am I really going to be like, ‘And then Johnny Rotten did this,’ or ‘Steve Albini did this’?
“But it actually feels like looking at the past to move forward,” Atkins says. “To people who this has been important to, who have felt like outsiders for whatever reason — just that this place exists kind of gives them some comfort.
