50 Cent Commemorates 20 Years of Getting Rich, Not Dying With Final Lap Tour

By Kory Grow

To commemorate two full decades of sipping Bacardí with shorties on their birthdays, 50 Cent will embark on the Final Lap Tour 2023 , marking the 20th anniversary of his breakthrough record, Get Rich or Die Tryin’ . Busta Rhymes and Jeremih will open all the North American dates. The trek kicks off in July and runs through September before 50 Cent takes the show to Europe.

Tickets will be available to participants in Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program on May 10. Concertgoers can register now through May 7 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Tickets will then officially go on sale to everyone on May 12.

While Bacardí might be the focus of Get Rich or Die Tryin’s “In da Club,” the liquor 50 Cent will likely be more excited about on the tour is his own Sire Spirits brands, Branson Cognac and Le Chemin du Roi Champagne. Tour promoter Live Nation is highlighting Sire Spirits as a show of support for Black-owned brands.

Tickets for the 50 Cent tour dates in North America will be on sale next week, with a general sale scheduled for Friday, May 12 at 10 a.m. local time to each venue. The “P.I.M.P.” rapper’s career is rollin’ 20 years deep.

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is commemorating two decades of sippin’ bub’ in the club like it’s your birthday with his Final Lap Tour 2023, marking the 20th anniversary of his major-label debut album, “Get Rich or Die Tryin’,” which The Times wrote was “the biggest sales sensation of the year,” selling 872,000 copies in just four days.

The album, which Interscope Records dropped Feb. 6, 2003, was a joint venture between Eminem’s Shady Records and Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Records. It included radio and club hits “Wanksta,” “P.I.M.P.” and “In Da Club.”

50 Cent catapults to the top

The rapper 50 Cent became notorious in the music industry with an underground hit about robbing big-name stars of their jewelry.

Feb. 13, 2003

“It’s exciting to reach the 20-year mark in anything when hip-hop is a youth culture, out with the old, in with the new,” the rapper told Rolling Stone this year. “So it means more that you’re able to stick around and be able to sustain relevance.”

Busta Rhymes and Jeremih will open all the North American dates. The tour kicks off in July and includes stops in the U.S., Canada, Europe and the United Kingdom.

50 Cent helps twin brothers who brought down El Chapo tell their story

In “Surviving El Chapo: The Twins Who Brought Down a Drug Lord,” rapper and businessman Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and journalist Charlie Webster help guide listeners through a conversation that they have with twin brothers Pedro (Peter) and Margarito (Jay) Flores, drug dealers and federal informants whose cooperation led to the indictment of Sinaloa cartel leader Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán and many others.

50 Cent brings out Method Man and other actors from his hit shows for "The Final Lap Tour" pre-party in Denver

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

As 50 Cent touched down in Denver for his “The Final Lap Tour,” he was joined by some familiar faces.

On Sunday (July 23), the New York rapper held a pre-party ahead of his show in the city. His guests featured actors from his hit shows “BMF,” “ Power Book II: Ghost ,” “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” and “Power Book IV: Force.”

Today (July 24), 50 posted about the event with a message regarding his future in the entertainment industry. “This is why this is the final lap,” he captioned his Instagram post . “I’m gonna change the landscape of film and television. GLG. Green Light Gang in Denver!” In another caption, the “Candy Shop” performer suggested, “You might want to get down with us.”

Since his critically acclaimed show “Power” premiered on Starz in 2014, 50 has been on a tear in the TV/film world. Not only has he created three spinoffs from his original series, but he also built a new on-screen universe surrounding the Black Mafia Family. In recent updates, the business mogul revealed he has two projects, “Lady Danger” with Nicki Minaj as well as “Vice City,” in development. The 48-year-old has also expressed interest in selling a project based on the life of sports agent Nicole Lynn .

Regarding his global experience, 50 explained to  XXL Magazine  on July 19 why he named his trek “ The Final Lap Tour .” “This tour [has] 93 dates,” he said. “It’ll be one of the biggest hip hop tours of the year because it won’t stop. It’ll just go through next year. By the time we [are] done, because of the groundwork that I laid touring, I literally can world tour. The other artists, when they say they [are] going on a world tour, it means they’re going on a run, but it’s not a world tour. My music is just coming full circle now.”

FOX 5 NY's Lisa Evers interviewed 50 Cent 20 years ago for his first-ever TV interview; now she sits down to talk to him about his 'Final Lap Tour' and his influence on hip-hop.

NEW YORK - It's been 20 years since 50 Cent's first album, "Get Rich or Die Trying," ignited his career.

This year 50 Cent has racked up 94 shows in 24 countries, selling more than 1 million tickets. Now he's back in New York where it all began.

Lisa: "How does it feel to be back here in New York after you've been all over the world?"

50 Cent: "It feels great. I got to get the kinks out of the show before I get here because it's to me to leave New York on a super high note, you know I'm going to give back to the town."

Lisa: "Because of the New York fans?"

50 Cent: "Yeah, because they're different, they've seen me throughout my career. So I've got to bring something new, show more showmanship."

Behind the Curtain of Dedication

Backstage, amid the anticipation and excitement, 50 Cent huddles with his team, including special guests Tony Yayo and Uncle Murda.

The same meticulous preparation that he has adhered to since the beginning is evident as he goes over his set list in his private dressing room.

A Journey through Triumph and Challenge

Lisa: "Let's take it back to the beginning, 2003, the early 2000's, you were nearly killed, a horrible shooting, you had a record deal that was in the works or done and then got canceled."

50 Cent: "When I made the decision to not be in the streets, music was the option and I looked as if I would leave no stones unturned and I'd do what I have to do to make that happen. At the point I was shot, it changed, going back to the neighborhood wasn't an option, I was getting shot from the neighborhood."

Honoring Hip Hop's Legacy

50 Cent's two-night performance at Barclays Center coincides with a significant moment in the history of hip-hop - the celebration of its 50th anniversary.

Lisa: "When you were starting out there were some big names in that early 2000 period like Nas, Jay Z. Do you feel like 'now I showed people,' where do you put yourself in that hip-hop top tier?"

50 Cent: "I think Hip Hop does that, they put you in the top tier. I was always better than them. Since I first came out I've been better than them, hip hop has to put you in that spot."

50 says this Final Lap tour will be his last for a while but he still has many more dates to go.  Then he plans to turn his full attention to his other ventures.
