Masai & Tanzania Camping Safari
Upgraded tour. Simply, perfect. For me, this was all about animals and I was overwhelmed with the opportunities that the guides and drivers provided us while respecting the awesome individuals that oversee these beasts - the national park rangers who provide services in Kenya and Tanzania. Blessed with the time we spent with Masai; would love to come back for the opportunity to spend more time with people; I'm a loner, so animals came first, but loved the people I had the opportunity to meet.Saw the big 5 within the first 3 days we were there; experienced a small window into the precarious lives African animals live daily - just, simply, overwhelming. FYI, African elephants own my heart.

11 DAY COMBINED KENYA & TANZANIA WILDLIFE SAFARI
It was a great and unforgettable stay. Very well organised
15 DAYS ESSENTIAL KENYA & TANZANIA EXPEDITION
We Cannot rate this company high enough. Our experience from inquiry point was first class, very quick to respond to questions and help accommodate our requirements. Very friendly staff and great communication throughout. Assistance with visa application information provided in correspondence and also over the phone. We had a brief the day before our safari which was thorough and gave us the opportunity to ask any questions, our guide Norton was waiting for us the following morning and all though our 15 day safari was extremely knowledgeable of the areas we visited and on flora, fauna and wildlife. Norton wanted to ensure we had the best experience possible trying to locate as many different animals as possible, we managed the big 5 and many many more, thank you. We chose a luxury package at Neptune Ngorongoro which made our trip extra special. All in all we would not hesitate to use this company again, such an amazing experience, from inquiry, booking, actual trip and feedback after. The staff at Steppe Dogs Adventures work so hard to make your trip so special, thank you:)

10 Day Kenya And Tanzania Safari Tour Exploring 6 Iconic Parks!
Starting from/returning to nairobi area hotels, airport, or location of your choice..
- Lake Nakuru Park - Kenya
- Masai Mara - Kenya
- Serengeti National Park - Tanzania
- Ngorongoro Crater - Tanzania
- Tarangire Park - Tanzania
- Amboseli National Park - Kenya
Option to Begin Tour at Amboseli and Finish in Arusha
We’ll pick you up in style – your own private 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep.
Ten full days discovering the best of Kenya and Tanzania – three parks in each! You’ll visit the great Serengeti and the Masai Mara , two massive parks that face each other at their international borders. And there, you’ll witness the herding of wildebeests and zebra crossing from one park and country to the other.
Both Kenya and Tanzania amaze safari-goers with their one-of-a-kind parks. Witness the stunning herds of great elephants parading at Amboseli Park before the snow-capped splendor of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
At Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Crater , you’ll descend into the world’s largest intact volcanic crater absolutely teeming with wildlife. Here you’ll discover prides of lions, plus rhino, elephant, leopard, buffalo, and cheetah.
This ten-day safari tour has been designed to balance your time between the natural wonders and wildlife of these two East African countries. Not many can say they’ve been to the Serengeti and the Masai Mara. But soon you will!
What’s Cool About These Parks?
Starting in Nairobi you’ll pass the Rift Valley arriving at charming Lake Nakuru National Park , with its beautiful acacia forests, waterfalls, and the lovely lake itself. Look for both Black and White rhinos here and possibly lion and leopard.
Then we’re off to the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve, home to dense concentrations of big cats, elephants, buffalo, giraffe, and dozens more species. This is the spot where you can see the Great Migration of wildebeests, zebra, and gazelle pour into the park on their annual trek.
Those thousands of herding grazers are coming across the Tanzanian border from Serengeti National Park, our next stop. The immense treeless savannahs here hold more than 3,000 lions. We’ll be tracking for them along with leopard, rhino, buffalo, elephant, eland, impala, and warthog.
We next adventure to one of the most unique spots on the planet, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera – Ngorongoro Crater . Descending into this blue/green world we’ll be tracking the big cats and all of Africa’s “Big Five”. Then we continue to the unusual Tarangire National Park , the site of bizarre baobab trees, huge termite mounds, and lots of elephants.
Speaking of the great tuskers, we’ll now cross back into Kenya, arriving at Amboseli National Park , known for its guaranteed sightings of great elephant families. You’ll see them marching before the imposing backdrop of snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro . An amazing finale to your ten-day, six-park, two-country excursion safari!

Nairobi – Lake Nakuru National Park
3 hour drive.
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
7:30 am – Is your safari gear packed and ready to go? Get ready for 10 full days of wildlife action! Your Africa Kenya Safaris driver/guide will come by in a private 4 x 4 Land cruiser Jeep.
Hop in and we’re off through the Great Rift Valley, with views of its dramatic escarpment. We’ll arrive at Lake Nakuru Park in the late morning and take in the lake and its surrounding acacia forests.
The park is a delightful blend of water birds (sometimes flamingoes!) and also rhinos at a special sanctuary here. But also look for lions, zebra, giraffe, warthog, and many other species.
Come evening, we’ll retire to our safari lodge or tented camp to relax, enjoy dinner and reflect on our journey’s first day.
Lake Nakuru National Park – Masai Mara
6 - 7 hour drive.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
We’re on safari time so let’s be up early for a game drive around the park to watch the animals and the birdlife emerge into the soft light of the new day.
We’ll breakfast and proceed to the Masai Mara, making rest and scenic stops along our way.
Arriving at the great Mara, you can check in at your new accommodation to freshen up… or just head out on your first of many game drives on the park’s pretty rolling hills.
Adorning the landscape, you can’t miss Africa’s special acacia trees, adding still more texture to this amazing park. You won’t have to look far or long before spotting some of the park’s voluminous wildlife. Over 95 species of mammals populate these Mara lands.
Toward late afternoon, you might be treated to one of the park’s glorious sunsets and you’ll know you have arrived at a very special place. We’ll head back to our Mara accommodation for a relaxing evening.
Full Day at the Masai Mara
We’ll head out early on this day of unlimited game drives. The Masai Mara is known for its many prides of lions, plus cheetah, buffalo, antelope, hyena and so much more.
To maximize our time on the savannah we’ll take along a picnic lunch and perhaps enjoy it down at the Mara River, the site of the crossing of wildebeests and zebra, flowing in from neighboring Serengeti. This is a dramatic spot where predators meet grazers, so we’ll look for crocodiles down in the river as well as all sorts of big cats.
Adding new dimensions to your safari, take advantage of two optional activities: A visit to a nearby Maasai village will broaden your cultural horizons as you meet these indigenous people and learn about their lifestyle.
For a special one-of-a-kind treat, sign up for the optional hot air balloon safari over the park. You’ll float up at dawn as the park comes alive with all its wonders lighting up beneath you in the new day. An unforgettable safari moment!
We’ll spend the evening at our Mara accommodation, enjoying a delicious meal while swapping stories of the day.
Masai Mara – Serengeti Game Reserve
6 hour drive.
Today our safari goes international, crossing the border into Tanzania at the town of Isebania.
Part of the same ecosystem as the Masai Mara, the Serengeti features a different look, its vast plains being treeless. But it offers as rich an array of wildlife, perhaps even more lions.
We’ll arrive in time for an afternoon game drive to better understand the look, feel, and “vibe” of the Serengeti. This is where the millions of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle, calve before heading on to the Masai Mara.
We’ll head to our Serengeti lodge or tented camp for relaxation and dinner.
Full Day Serengeti Game Reserve
This will be a great day of exploration as we travel over the immense tract of the Serengeti, spotting for lion, cheetah, zebra, giraffe, eland, klipspringer, gazelle, warthog, and even hippo!
As always, you set the pace of your safari – opt for morning, afternoon, or full-day game viewing. The choice is yours.
Depending on the season (January/February), you may see great numbers of wildebeests and zebras calving. In the following months, the young will be raised in time for the annual Great Migration , across to the Masai Mara, from July to October.
This evening, we’ll relax and swap stories at our Serengeti accommodation.
Serengeti Game Reserve – Ngorongoro Crater
3 – 4 hour drive.
An exciting day awaits! We’ll be up early to enjoy another game drive through the Serengeti, as we exit the reserve and head to the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world.
Hold on, as our 4 x 4 takes us down the steep crater walls, into this magical expanse of green landscapes holding every sort of wildlife, from lions to pink flamingoes.
We’ll enjoy lunch, perhaps watching hippos at one of the park’s lakes as we keep an eye out for rhino, buffalo, elephant, and of course, the big cats.
Toward late afternoon, we’ll head back up to the edge of the caldera in time to catch one of Africa’s signature attractions – a magnificent sunset lighting up the crater’s rim.
And then we’re off to our Ngorongoro safari lodge or tented camp to settle in for dinner and rest.
Ngorongoro Crater -Tarangire Park
Remember last night’s spectacular sunset? Let’s get up in time to catch an equally awesome sunrise at the crater’s rim!
And now we’re off to Tarangire National Park , a small but quite beautiful reserve. We’ll take an afternoon game drive looking for the park’s signature massive elephant herds. Tarangire is also known for its wildlife migration where over 250,000 animals enter the park.
We’ll spend the evening at our Tarangire accommodation.
Tarangire Park – Amboseli Park
5 -6 hour drive.
As always on safari, we’ll be up with the birds to enjoy another game drive through the park.
After breakfast, we’ll head out to our final park, Amboseli, crossing back into Kenya at the border town of Namanga.
Amboseli is Kenya’s second most popular park, framed by the snow-capped majesty of Mt. Kilimanjaro and home to unlimited herds of great elephants. Their numbers are so constant you are guaranteed to see them parading to and fro.
Come late afternoon, the typical cloud covering obscuring Kilimanjaro’s summit may dissipate, revealing the mountain’s breathtaking peak.
We will spend our 8 th Safari evening at our Amboseli lodge or tented camp.
Full Day at Amboseli Park
The park is especially attractive in the early morning so let’s take advantage of the day and head out for our first game drive.
Of course, we’ll be looking for elephants but the park may also present us with sightings of lions, cheetah, buffalo, wildebeest, gazelle, monkeys, and many rare birds.
We’ll stop at Observation Hill, where we can take in the many varieties of landscapes and wildlife in all directions.
If we’re lucky we’ll catch another glimpse of Kilimajaro’s snowy peak toward the evening.
And here on our last safari night we’ll relax and dine at our Amboseli accommodation.
Amboseli Park – Nairobi
4 hour drive.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
By now as an experienced safari-goer, you know the drill: We’ll be up early for a pre-breakfast game drive looking for elephants, lions, gazelle, antelope, and more.
We’ll stock up on breakfast before taking our final game drive through the park and head off to Nairobi.
En route, we’ll make stops for lunch and take in the scenic vistas.
Ten days – six parks… and how much wildlife and landscapes have we seen? Enough for many memories and lots of stories to be told and retold. We hope you enjoyed your two-country safari as much as we enjoyed showing you all the wonders of East Africa. From the entire team at Africa Kenya Safaris , a big Asante! for your time and commitment to see our natural world.

Our Pride of East Africa Safari Stands Heads Above the Rest!
- A Rare Secluded Experience, away from Crowds There’s no question East Africa draws a lot of safari travelers. The abundant wildlife in the famous national parks of Kenya and Tanzania makes them duly popular destinations. That’s why we concentrate on private reserves where visitor numbers are strictly limited. We know you don't want to come all the way to East Africa to see a lion surrounded by 15 or 20 other safari vehicles. On the exclusive private conservancies we focus on, we'll be mostly alone with the animals.
- An Itinerary Designed Around the Migration Many companies operate the same standard “migration safari" circuit year-round, with no concern to time specific locations with the arrival of the herds. We focus on the best time to see the animals, then build our itineraries and dates around that, attempting to time our presence for peak viewing. An integral feature is our mobile base camps, strategically positioned for proximity to where wildlife is most prolific at that season.
- Exclusive Safari Activities on Private Reserves Most safaris stay within the main areas of the most popular national parks and reserves. In contrast, we choose remote small safari camps on private conservancies within the Maasai Mara and Serengeti ecosystems, away from big lodges and roads filled with vehicles. From these adjacent reserves, we have easy access to more remote sectors of the parks while also enjoying special privileges not allowed within their bounds, such as guided safari walks, off-road driving and night drives in search of nocturnal wildlife.
- Meet the World's Last Two White Rhinos & Witness Conservation in Action Located on the Laikipia Plateau in the shadow of Mount Kenya, Ol Pejeta is a working cattle ranch, which first set aside land for rhino conservation in 1988. Today this 90,000-acre preserve is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa and home to Earth's last two northern white rhinos . Visit this pair of females with their guards, and learn about groundbreaking science that's being done to save their species.
- Coveted Early Morning Access to Ngorongoro Crater We've designed our itinerary to make sure we are at the gate to enter Ngorongoro Crater the moment the reserve opens early in the morning. Our timing ensures a full day on safari in the crater, with an early arrival to beat the crowds. With expedited access to wildlife viewing on the crater floor early in the morning, we'll be there when many animals are most active.
- Small Groups Mean Better Wildlife Encounters We travel with a maximum of 12 guests. Many East African safaris take groups of 20 or more, packed into cramped mini-buses. Small groups mean we get closer to the herds, have better photo opportunities, and our experience is enriched by personalized interpretation from our Expedition Leaders as we watch the wildlife action side by side.
- Maximize Comfort & Time with Internal Flights Many safari companies transport you to and from the bush by vehicle—meaning long, dusty drives over rough roads. We’ve included flights wherever possible, maximizing time for what you have come to East Africa for: wildlife viewing on safari.
- Count on a Window Seat & Plenty of Space in Our Chartered Vehicles We limit the number in each safari vehicle to maximize comfort, and every traveler has a window seat for unimpeded views and photography—this is not the case with every safari operator.
- The World's Finest Safari Guides Natural Habitat Adventures is known worldwide for employing the finest naturalist guides on the planet. In Kenya and Tanzania, our own Expedition Leaders are with our groups from beginning to end. They are among the most highly trained guides in Africa, averaging more than 15 years' guiding experience and dedicated to sharing exceptional knowledge and highly personalized service. Their training is further enhanced with resources from WWF’s top scientists. See Expedition Leader bios and traveler comments regarding the quality of our leaders.
- Our Quality-Value Guarantee Ensures Your Superior Safari Experience Natural Habitat Adventures offers an exclusive guarantee, which clearly states that we will meet the lofty expectations we set forth in our promotional materials. To our knowledge, this is the most ambitious guarantee made by any adventure travel company. Read our important promise.
- Feel Good About Your Carbon-Neutral Journey We care deeply about our planet, as we know you do. When you travel with us, the carbon emissions from your trip are 100% offset—including your round-trip flights from home. Natural Habitat Adventures has been the world’s first carbon-neutral travel company since 2007.

"Very reliable and well organized tour agent. We went on a 6 day tailor made safari to Amboseli and Masai Mara NP. All functioned very well, our guide/driver Patrick was great, attentive and very skilled in locating wild life. We enjoyed a lot and can 100% recommend Eyes on Africa."
We are Africa-based and family-run safari outfitters since 2001. We specialize in tailor-made Safari Holidays around Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar . We are big enough to rely on but small enough to care. With more than 20 years of experience, we can fulfill all your safari and holiday needs.
Eyes on Africa Safaris was founded by Nevenka Lepenik and Roman Biondic. Both were originally from Slovenia and moved to Kenya in the year 2001. They were warmly welcomed by a Maasai family from Masai Mara, whom they met on their previous travel. At that time, they fell in love with Kenya and its people. They lived in a Maasai homestead for about a year, got Maasai names and the second family. They walked many of the Mara, herding cattle, learning about wildlife and getting to know the Maasai culture. They got married by the Maasai tradition, lived a very simple life in Nairobi downtown for a year after that and worked hard on their new business, Eyes on Africa Safaris. When their daughter Anna was born, they decided to move to the Kenyan coast. The business was slowly growing, and they now had an opportunity to build a cultural camp, which was their dream from the beginning. They wanted to share the beauty of Maasai culture, provide jobs in the remote Loita Hills area and encourage young Maasai to preserve cultural heritage. Maji Moto Eco Camp was born, as well as their son Max sometime later. They still live on the Kenyan coast, near their newest baby - Monkey Suites, a luxury beach retreat.

Safari Vehicles: MINI-VAN vs LAND CRUISER

LAND CRUISER
FLY-IN SAFARIS
Imagine - flying in a small bush aircraft over the Serengeti or Great Rift Valley. They offer you an excellent view over the plains and you might also spot a few animals from the air. Fly-in safaris can really enhance your holiday. They are convenient and comfortable means of travel between different destinations.
How does Fly-in work:
We arrange the logistics of flights, accommodation and park fees. in the meantime, enjoy your bush flight and the views of Africa. Your driver will await you on the airstrip to proceed with the rest of your safari.
Why choose Fly-in safari:
Flying into new national parks and destinations is an excellent advantage to see more of the beautiful country in a shorter time. The aircraft fly at a low altitude, where you can overlook the landscape. These flights are short, luxurious and comfortable.

The Wildebeest Migrate every year between Serengeti in Tanzania and Masai Mara in Kenya . For most of the year, they graze in the southern-eastern part of the ecosystem. That coincides with the calving migration season. The wildebeest colonizes the southern Serengeti from November to May. Once depleted of the pastures, they trek northern towards the Northern Serengeti in Tanzania and the Masai Mara in Kenya. Join us on a Wildebeest Migration safari as we follow the herds.

I’ve found Africa’s best-value safari holiday
Malawi is half the cost of hot spots like tanzania and zambia — but there’s nothing cut-price about the wildlife, lodges and guides, our writer discovers.
C hoosing the best tree to climb is never easy, especially when your life depends on it. “This one could be good,” suggested Nelio Stewart, an experienced rhino tracker, who assesses tree trunks in the same way a safety officer might mark out emergency escape routes.
The sturdy, broad-boughed tamarind ahead of us certainly looked scalable, despite the trails of army ants and swarming bees. Smirking at me, Stewart added: “They won’t be a problem when there’s a black rhino on your tail.”
According to the team of experienced trackers in Malawi’s Majete Game Reserve, 80 per cent of scouting missions end in some form of tree scrambling. Never have I wanted more to be in the minority.
Native to the region, black rhinos became locally extinct in the 1980s due to rampant poaching. But a successful reintroduction programme started in 2003 has spawned a healthy new population, carefully monitored by a team so attuned to the animals’ behaviour they can even identify individuals by their spoors.
It’s one of several good news stories unfolding in the protected areas of Malawi, where rewilding efforts are quietly transforming the developing east African country into a respectable safari option. Despite being landlocked, sparkling beaches fringe Lake Malawi — one of the deepest lakes in the world — presenting opportunities for a beach and bush break.

Last month’s decision to waive visas for 79 countries, including the UK, is part of the government’s ambitious plan to put tourism on a par with countries such as neighbouring Zambia and Tanzania. Malawi is lesser known than these wildlife giants, and safari holidays remain considerably cheaper at an average £3,000 for seven nights — almost half the price of an equivalent trip elsewhere.
Several days earlier, I’d flown into the business hub Blantyre in southwest Malawi via Johannesburg. (There are no direct flights from the UK, although the Malawian government is in discussion with several airlines about the possibility of intercontinental flights.) Only a 90-minute drive away, making it a popular weekend getaway for the city’s expats, Majete is emerging as one of the country’s flagship wildlife destinations due largely to the efforts of African Parks, a conservation NGO that works in partnership with governments to manage their wildlife resources.
When it signed a mandate with the Malawian government for Majete in 2003, all elephants, rhinos and large carnivores had disappeared. Not a single tourist had visited the park in three years. But the reintroduction of 17 species has transformed it over the past 21 years; according to a 2022 census there are 12,000 animals. Now elephants, rhinos, lions, giraffes, cheetahs and wild dogs can all be seen, and tourist numbers exceed 13,000 per year.
“The story of absolute destruction and hope is one that has impressed people over and over again,” said the park manager, John Adendorff, driving back from our early morning rhino trek, which (somewhat thankfully) had been fruitless. A blueprint for rewilding and regeneration of biodiversity, Majete’s success has inspired multiple African governments and the non-profit now manages 22 reserves in 12 countries across the continent, providing employment for more than 5,000 staff.
• How to plan a safari: what you need to know . • 13 of the best safaris in Africa
A hilly landscape of 270 sq m smothered in thick bush and woodland, with extremes of rainfall and temperature, Majete has not been an easy environment or climate to work in. “We come out of Cambodia and go into the Sahara desert,” Adendorff joked. “It changes drastically.”
Although regular tourists can’t track rhino, it is possible to see the endangered animals on game drives or from hides, including a rustic overnight option at Nakamba Hide, which self-drive visitors can book directly through African Parks, although you’ll need to bring your own sleeping bags (one night’s self-catering from £79pp; africanparks.org).
Staying at Thawale Lodge, the unfenced eight-tent camp managed by African Parks, set in the reserve’s core release area known as the Sanctuary, I had plenty of close wildlife encounters. I woke up to impalas and nyalas nibbling fruits from my veranda, ate a healthy lunch of salad and grilled chicken while a herd of elephants slurped at a watering hole just a few feet from my table, and cooled off in the afternoon by dipping my toes in a bio pool swimming with endemic cichlid fish. At £175pp per night full board, including game drives, this is less than half the price of a similar lodge in Kenya or Tanzania, and all profits made here are reinvested into the reserve.
At night, I watched lion shadows slink between the leadwood and ebony trees surrounding the camp and drifted off listening to distant roars. One evening those dreamy apparitions became a startling reality when two brawling male lions crashed into our sundowner at a viewpoint overlooking the Shire River. Standing on a picnic table with only an iPhone torch for defence, I battled the instinct to run and did the only other thing I could think of in that situation — I hid behind someone else (in this case, the tourism manager, Emmanuel Kandiero).
• The new beach-and-bush package that offers half-price safaris
Since their reintroduction to Majete in 2012, lion numbers have soared from seven to over 70, illustrating the challenges of managing an enclosed wildlife area. With 80,000 people living within three miles of the park boundaries at risk of losing crops and livestock to animals, fencing has been a key factor in winning the trust of communities, and crucial to Majete’s success.
It’s a similar situation in Liwonde National Park, also managed by African Parks, a six-hour drive north. Sliced by the Shire, palm-dotted floodplains and mopane woodlands provide a backdrop for reintroduced rhinos, lions and cheetahs.
When I arrived, the scene was dynamically different from the predator-free park I’d visited seven years previously, where hippos lazed in the water and impalas gaily bounded across lawns. Yet there were still fewer tourists than I’d expect to find in a prime safari destination.
“Our cats keep us busy,” joked my guide, David Owen, from Mvuu Camp, a waterside lodge with a mixture of 14 upmarket stone or canvas chalets with polished wooden interiors and bright kitenge fabrics framed by swollen baobab trees. At £219pp a night full board, with above-average meals including homemade pizzas and plates piled with fresh vegetables, it’s a relative bargain. Even more affordable is African Parks’s self-catering Chimwala Bush Camp on the other side of the park (easily accessible from a separate gate), with self-catering rates in an en suite tent from £60pp per night. Bring your own food, and two in-house chefs will store and prepare it for you.
There’s nothing cut-price about the safari experience, though. I watched a coalition of five cheetahs fade into a purple sunset, observed lions stalking antelopes, and listened to monitor lizards noisily mating like tree-hammering woodpeckers.
“You can go to the Serengeti and stay in places that make other people wealthy, but in these parks, every last cent you spend goes back into conservation,” Adendorff had said to me. “If more people knew where their money was going and how they were supporting this incredible recovery, Malawi could be one of the top destinations in Africa.”
He’s right. Finding an affordable, crowd-free safari destination is almost as hard as tracking down a black rhino. Sarah Marshall was a guest of Natural World Safaris, which has seven nights’ all-inclusive from £4,600pp, including transfers, conservation and park fees, scheduled shared game-viewing activities and flights (naturalworldsafaris.com)

We’re (finally) planning our safari trip (been on our bucket list since forever!) This is our first and perhaps the only time we’ll get to visit the safari. We have done some research and ruled out the peak season in summer (Jul to Sep) but still deciding between Oct or Feb (leaning slightly towards the latter but not sure how crowded it would be). We’re interesting in wildlife & photography (not interested in bird watching). Would like to see the big cats (especially when they hunt) and of course the usual big five. Would going Feb increase a chance of seeing these? Or you’re likely to see all of these in Oct as well.
These are the itineraries we got from the TO. They cost about the same (although starting at different points).
D2 Arusha City to Lake Manyara National Park (Game drive in Lake Manyara National Park)
D3 Lake Manyara National Park to Serengeti National Park (Game drive in Serengeti National Park)
D4 Serengeti National Park (Game drive in Serengeti National Park)
D5 Serengeti National Park (Game drive in Serengeti National Park)
D6 Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro (Game drive in Serengeti National Park)
D7 Ngorongoro to Tarangire National Park (Game drive in Ngorongoro)
D8 Tarangire National Park to Kilimanjaro International Airport (Game drive in Tarangire National Park)
D1 meet in Arusha and drive to Tarangire National Park for gamedrive
D2 Breakfast, drive to Ndutu area for gamedrive overnight in Ndtu
D3 full day gamedrive in Ndutu
D4 full day gamedrive in Ndutu
D5 gamedrives as you drive to Central Serengeti National Park; overnight Serengeti
D6 full day gamedrive in Serengeti National Park, overnight Serengeti
D7 Breakfast, gamedrive in the morning, after lunch drive to Ngorongoro Crater rim, overnight Ngorongoro
D8 - Feb 2024: descend onto the Ngorongoro Crater floor for gamedrive, picnic lunch, ascend to the rim and drive to Arusha.
Based on these itineraries, would you recommend visiting in Feb or Oct? If there are any suggestion on the itinerary, I would appreciate the inputs/comments :)
Thank you so much!

2 different safari season with different wildlife experience and landscape view
Both itinerary is great but here is different
February is green season safari after short rains mostly green and wonderful for safari
February Ndutu as best wildlife experience from calving to big cats too as well other parks such like Tarangire and ngorongoro it wonderful.
October is dry season safari which is suitable for safari too but great migration will other side of serengeti means in maasai mara side.so almost chance is very less
Good for safari too with high concentration of wildlife each park .total dry season experience
Depend your interest
"Would like to see the big cats (especially when they hunt) and of course the usual big five. Would going Feb increase the chance of seeing these? Or you’re likely to see all of these in Oct as well."
>> Both seasons will be rewarding for a safari. There are some distinctions worth considering though.
February falls in the wet season, which is characterized by green plains, and newborns. The tracks can get muddy which makes for an adventure. If seeing the wildebeest migrating herds is of interest, then Southern Serengeti into Ndutu is the best location to visit. A particular migration event that can be observed this time of the year is the calving season. In my experience animal hunts are more visible during this time because the newborns are easy prey.
The itineraries provided could be designed better. For example, an overland safari in and out of the parks can be tiring and rushed. One way to cut down from the long transit hours is to drive in one way and fly out at the end. The flight would be on a small cesna bush plane that flies out of airstrips in and around the national parks.
Another example is the Feb itinerary is a little busy. For example, it has 1 night in Tarangire at a time when the park is best enjoyed on a 2-night stay. The wet season causes animals to disperse to the park boundary so spending 2 nights here will give you more time to explore the park.
October in Tarangire is the best time for there before the short rains when most of the animals are drinking in the Tarangire River but without staying there at least 2 nights or three it is a waste.
Tarangire in Feb can be hot or miss with the rains and movement of animals so I would not go there unless I had 2 nights min.
Feb. in Ndutu for the migration is a favourite of mine if you are interested in seeing over 2,000,000 animals spread over a very large area as far as the eye can see, with about 500,000 new born calves Zebra and wildebeest.
So which month depends on your interests really.
The Feb trip is also the same 1 night Tarangire not worth it.
I would change the itineraries around maybe look at other TO's. But either way I would drive one way and fly the other and if Oct. more time in Tarangire and if Feb. leave out Tarangire if only 1 night and spend time in Ndutu and Seronera
In Feb. I would do Ngorongoro Ndutu Seronera then fly back with your number of days
or if you can Tarangire 2 nights
Ngorongoro 1 nights Ndutu 3 nights then Seronera 2 nights then fly back to Arusha .
We have been on two safaris; the first in early November before the rains and the second in late February into March.
For our second safari we were in Tarangire (2), Ndutu (4), central Serengeti (3), Ngorongoro (1) and we drove back. We had our reasons to drive back but flying back would have worked fine. We found Ndutu to be amazing. We were a bit late for the birthing but there were millions of wildebeest and zebra there with their young. And it was full of lions and cheetah among many other animals. And we are not birders at home but there are stunning birds to see on safari.
If we were to go again I would aim for earlier in February and again have lots of time in Ndutu.
You have excellent advice above. You can do better than either itinerary.
Both February and October are outstanding times of year for the reasons everyone’s outlined, and you wouldn’t go wrong with either.
Thank you so much everyone for chipping in. Your feedbacks are very useful and much appreciated. I’ll see if a one way trip can be organized to avoid too much driving.
Thanks again guys!
Maybe check with As salaam air ,Auric air or Flightlink air at big one but it safe to fly with small aircraft. It other experience with Bush aircraft

10 Best African Countries for Safari
Posted: December 19, 2023 | Last updated: December 19, 2023
#1 Botswana
Recommended Tours:
Thus, poachers are seen as enemies of the people. As a result, Botswana has come into view as Africa's most sought-after ecotourism destination. Starting from the Chobe National Park to the Moremi Nature Reserve, you'll be able to witness numerous gems all around the country.
Back in 2014, Botswana widely banned the hunting of wild animals and implemented strict laws which are still in practice. The country resumes its zero-tolerance for poaching and their very own environmental minister, Tshekedi Khama, has even launched a shoot-to-kill policy for poachers.
Botswana, with its wildlife conservation and natural parks, is a haven for nature lovers. It is currently in the top 5, as its approach to the protection and conservation of wildlife is worth the praise. As a country, it is very forward-thinking, some may even call it aggressively forward-thinking when it comes to its preservation and anti-poaching laws.
Its fertile land provides a safe and comforting home to around 200 mammal species. This includes elephants, hippos, monkeys and so much more. Along with 650 bird species and 5,500 plants. Even though the country is still underdeveloped and most of the population live in rural households, its national parks, and sight-seeing destinations are on the top 10 of our lists.
Even though many would face some difficulties in locating Malawi on a map, given how tiny it is, the country is home to the world-renowned Lake Malawi National Park. This is practically one-third of the country and is the most biodiverse lake in the world.
Most of the land in Namibia is occupied by the Kalahari and Namib Deserts. Along with that, the country also has 12 national parks and many other areas which are protected. So, if you go there for a safari, you'll have many rich areas to see and explore.
When it comes to countries with the least amount of population, Namibia is one of them. Which proves to be a good thing for nature. This is because most of the land in Namibia is still unspoiled by human filth or any sort of development, giving nature a chance to breathe.
In the country's Volcanoes National Park, you'll find 10 habituated gorilla families. Groups of 8 trekkers can visit them for one hour per day. But that's enough to get the best African safari experience. And as a nature lover, you'll enjoy the experience to the max.
If you've been around for some time, you'll be familiar with Rwanda's mountain gorillas. They were famously broadcasted and their fight for survival was shown on National Geographic . This was all thanks to the late Dian Fossey back in the 1970s who advocated for the rights of these mountain gorillas throughout her life.
Considering the tragic history surrounding the mass genocide of the people of Rwanda back in 1994, it's truly a blessing what the country has achieved in the past 25 years. There have been countless investments in infrastructure. This has resulted in the country being a very fast-growing destination for ecotourism.
#6 South Africa
But given all the advantages, it's safe to conclude that South Africa also suffers from over-tourism. I mean, if you have so many great attractions, people will flock towards it. Chances are that you'll find yourself in the middle of dozens of unruly visitors who are not too keen on obeying the rules. This occurs mostly during the peak seasons.
Annually, the country has one million visitors. Its biggest attraction is the Kruger National Park with its enrichment in biodiversity. Visitors there also have the liberty to self-drive, thus, getting a first-person private but superb experience.
For some time now, South Africa has been climbing the charts to become one of the most popular destinations for African safaris. Given its location, South Africa is a very convenient and cheap destination for people from the United States. Besides that, the country also boasts a well-developed infrastructure which makes it perfect for luxury travelers as well.
#7 Tanzania
One of the most popular locations would be the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The country is also a haven for 1100 different bird species. It's no wonder that Tanzania gets this much rep. Especially when the country boasts so many wonders.
We talked about Kenya being the top destination for Safari. Now Tanzania here takes second place in being the continent's most popular safari destination. And why shouldn't it? The country has 16 national parks and an extraordinary amount of wealth and wildlife wonders for the people to witness.
Some of its natural attractions include housing the highest mountain range in Africa. It also has the world's largest free-standing volcano and the second-largest freshwater lake. With its 30 national parks and other wildlife reserves, Uganda boasts many more sanctuaries which are worth the visit. Especially if you're a lover of nature and wildlife.
Often called "The Pearl of Africa", Uganda is certainly a great pick for an African safari. Its reputation as being one of the best ecotourism destinations comes from the country's natural attractions and wildlife.
Out of its 20 national parks, the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park is home to many wildlife animals such as African elephants, Angolan giraffes, Cape buffalo, etc. Other than that, there are many private ownerships of National parks, notably the Kasanka National Park which is near the basin of Lake Bangweulu. It's a safe place where visitors can see 400 different avian species.
Zambia may be a bit far down the list of popular destinations for your African safari, but many consider it to be a destination for diversified and immersive safari experiences, and making a notable feature on our 10 Best African Countries for Safari guide. The country is steadily focusing on conservation as their president has shown a keen interest and is working on building the nation's economy as well as the infrastructure.
