From coastal plains to rolling countryside, Rhode Island packs a cycling punch.

The Ocean State may be diminutive, but when it comes to cycling, it punches above its weight. Its 60-plus-miles of bike paths cross through multiple towns and quaint villages carry riders over coastal plains to the beach, weave through woodlands, and climb inland rolling hills. Posh Newport is a bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community, and the state as a whole comes in at number 21. The 19-mile Washington Secondary Bike Path — which follows the retired Hartford, Providence, and Fishkill Railroad — is the state’s longest, skirting historic waterfront and passing by eight parks. The ever-expanding Blackstone River Bikeway crosses many bridges as it follows the water through charming Blackstone Valley. Jonesing for a swim? Ride the William C. O’Neill Bike Path to Narragansett. Rhode Island’s mountain biking is surprisingly great, whether you’re darting on and off the singletrack in Lincoln Woods State Park, climbing up to the ridgelines and circling the ponds at Woody Hill, or getting happily lost on the former motorcycle trails of the Big River Management Area in West Greenwich. The Tour de Rhody is a perfect intro to the state’s gravel scene, with routes ranging from 15 miles to a stout metric century (bonus: you get access to the closed roads around the Scituate Reservoir). Or explore the Carolina Management Area, where country roads dip and roll through fields and farm groves and pass by glacial rock formations and rock walls from colonial times. If a big day out is what you’re after, sign up for the Bike to the Beach, which starts in Boston and finishes with a seaside party in Newport.

A morning shuttle greets cyclists at an airport hotel, train station or vehicle lot taking them to Galilee, RI where we catch the morning ferry to Block Island . One of the "Last Great Places on Earth," according to the Nature Conservancy , Block Island's unique harmony of land, sea, and people features stunning views at every turn. Also a National Wildlife Refuge, the island is internationally recognized as one of the most important migratory bird habitats on the East Coast. We explore the island's magical scenery on both bicycle and foot. Guests can hike two of the island's most spectacular trails, along the majestic cliffs of Clay Head and through Rodman's Hollow, a peaceful nature preserve. We stay at the beautiful Rose Farm Inn, chosen as the most popular Block Island destination on Trip Advisor.

Today we travel back to mainland Rhode Island and the active fishing port of Point Judith, known throughout New England for it's catches of lobster, squid, and fluke. Cyclists follow Ocean Road along Narragansett's stunning coastline of beaches and beautiful homes. We visit the Gilbert Stuart Museum , birthplace of America's foremost portrait artist and the site of the first snuff mill in America. We'll explore Conanicut Island, biking past active farms, historic properties, windmills, and the remains of old military fortification. A shuttle/ferry takes us to Newport. Our accommodations, the Hotel Viking, has been selected by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as one of America's historic properties.

Welcome to Newport , one of New England's most historic, romantic, and beautiful cities-by-the-sea on Aquidneck Island. Newport has been home to revolutionary battles, the architectural boom of the guilded age, the "Summer White Houses" during the administrations of Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy, and the America's Cup. Tour the famous mansions , explore the historic waterfront, or visit the boutique shops. A stunning morning ride takes cyclists along Newport's famous Ocean Avenue. After checkout, a shuttle returns guests to the airport, train station, or vehicle lot. Guests wishing to extend their stay in Newport receive a 20 percent discount at the Hotel Viking if booked through Coastal Biking Adventures.

Coastal Biking Adventures offers New England bicycle tours. Adventure Cycling along the east coast of the United States of America makes for great cycling holidays and bike vacations in Ri, CT and NY. Bluegrass, KY

Enjoy the view of the Wild Turkey Distillery and Young's High Bridge built in 1889.

Boone, IA

Rail Explorers have partnered with the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad to bring the first Rail Explorers Experience to the Midwest. Riders can enjoy beautiful views of the Des Moines River Valley, where is it is not uncommon to see a convocation of bald eagles along the riverbank. Family activity and access for everyone

The Rail Explorers are easy to pedal, the terrain is mostly flat and the ride is relaxing and enjoyable. Everyone can enjoy this activity: couples young and old, groups of friends, and families of all ages and abilities. The pedal powered Explorers provide a smooth and comfortable adventure suitable for all.

Guided but Solitary

At Rail Explorers safety is our first priority, so all tours have a trained guide at the front and in the last Explorer. Tours depart on a set schedule, but all riders are spread out, with up to 500ft between you and those in front and behind. The front and rear guides ensure that everyone arrives safely, but the distance between the bikes allows everyone to go at their own pace and enjoy the magic of riding the rails in solitude.
