Bush Tucker Canoe Tour

We had a very knowledgeable guide who shared information and the history of the area. He also provided us with a Bushtucker lunch which was incredible. We had time for a nice swim too. The only thing that was a challenge on the trip were the bush flies but that is life in SW Australia at this time of the year. A worthwhile trip and adventure.

Booked this trip months in advance. Really annoyed that we were told explicitly to be at the Margaret River Visitor centre for pick up only to find that the rendezvous was at “Riverhead” some 8 Km away. Frankly piss poor organisation, far too casual. If not for the knowledge of the staff in the visitors centre we would have missed what turned out to be an excellent trip hosted by the irrepressible Tony. Really good added value in terms of bushcraft and local river knowledge. Just the right length and some great fellow trippers. Tony is a Top bloke who covered up for a major back office cock up.

Our group of 5 adults and 3 children enjoyed the trip down the Margaret River, a unique way to discover the area, away from the usual tourist spots. Our guide, Bruce, was very patient with us as we took longer than the rest of the group (with the kids not landing their weight to the paddling :P) to get to the designated spots for him to point out things to us. Though it was a scorching hot day, we had a great time (plus workout) outdoors. A suggestion for 2 guides instead of just 1 (1 in front and 1 at the read) to make sure laggards like us also get taken care of :) Overall, thank you for a fun time!

We had an enjoyable day tour of local vineyards in the Margaret River region, perfectly curated to include wines, cheese and chocolate. The bus was comfy and our fellow travelers friendly. Our host Bernard was a real highlight, very knowledgeable and it was a treat to have such a well organised day (he named and transported our purchases for us until divvying them out at the end of the day). If you’re staying a few days, I recommend doing this at the start of your trip so you can enjoy the wine, cheese and chocolate during your stay. Very highly recommended!! Book ahead and relax while you’re collected, ferried about stunning places and dropped home safely. Six stars.

DESCRIPTION

Meet at Margaret River mouth, Prevelly Beach 9.40 am (we can also arrange a pickup at Margaret River Visitors Centre 9.30 am if you have no transport). At the river mouth, enjoy exhilarating views off Surfers Point and the river meeting the ocean. 

Equipment and canoe instruction is professionally provided for all ability levels. At 10.15 am tour guests depart into the river valley, past cliffs, pioneer and aboriginal sites, by 2-5 seater canoes.

As no motor craft are permitted on the river, the healthy native ecosystem with rare public access, boasts clean, clear water, Australian wildlife, unique forests, and tranquil waters.

Lunch is served and wild foods fully explained by 1 pm. Paddle upstream past forested kangaroo habitats and learn the history of our first native inhabitants and the trials of the famous Bussell family of  Busselton. Unique photo sites, fun in the sun. Meander home or race for the Margaret River wine to Surfer’s Beach at 2 pm.
