Adam Richard Wiles (born 17 January 1984), better known by his stage name Calvin Harris , is a Scottish DJ, singer, songwriter, and record producer. His gold-selling debut album, I Created Disco, was released in 2007 and contained the top-ten singles "Acceptable in the 80s" and "The Girls". His second studio album, Ready for the Weekend (2009), reached number one on the UK Album Chart and includes the chart-topper "I'm Not Alone", the UK top-five hit "Ready for the Weekend", and the singles "Flashback" and "You Used to Hold Me". A remix album titled L.E.D. Festival was released in July 2010 as a free album in the August issue of Mixmag. Harris released his third studio album, 18 Months in October 2012, which contained the singles "Bounce", "Feel So Close", "Let's Go", "We'll Be Coming Back", and "Sweet Nothing". He has written and produced records for other recording artists including Kylie Minogue, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Dizzee Rascal, Cheryl Cole, Example, Rihanna (on the international chart-topper "We Found Love") and Kesha.

Early life and career Harris was born Adam Richard Wiles on 17 January 1984 in Dumfries, Scotland. He states that he was a fan of football and aspired to be like Steve McManaman. "But I never had curly hair, so I got into music. If I'd had curly hair, things would've been different."He was first attracted to electronic music in his teens and was recording bedroom demos by 1999.According to an interview with News of the World, all the while he created music, he started becoming an antisocial person, which affected his personality. His earliest success was when he was twenty-one: the songs "Da Bongos" and "Brighter Days" were released as a 12" club single and CD-EP by the Prima Facie label in early 2002 under the name Stouffer. He released one song in 2004, "Let Me Know", with artist Ayah Marar. The song appears on The Unabombers' Electric Soul 2.  Harris signed contracts with EMI (publishing) and Sony BMG (recording) in 2006 after he had been discovered by Tommie Sunshine on the social networking website Myspace and his music was released on Sunshine's label Xylophone Jones Recordings previous to his album on Sony BMG.Harris had recently moved back from London to his hometown of Dumfries because he was unable to find a job. Later in 2006, Harris produced a remix of All Saints' hit single "Rock Steady". Harris's first album, I Created Disco, was released in June 2007. The album contains uptempo electroclash songs that were influenced by music from the 1980s. To promote I Created Disco, Harris embarked on a tour of the UK, supporting Faithless and Groove Armada. I Created Disco was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry for sales of 100,000 copies in the UK, where it reached number eight on the UK Albums Chart. The first single, "Vegas", was issued on limited edition vinyl; the first wide-release single from the album was "Acceptable in the 80s", a tribute to the style and culture of the decade. The song reached number ten on the UK Singles Chart, remaining on the chart for fifteen weeks. "The Girls", the album's third single, peaked at number three in the UK, although the fourth release, "Merrymaking at My Place", reached only number forty-three. The fifth and final single, "Colours", was featured in television advertisements for DFS sofas and Kia Motors. On 18 October 2008, Harris was featured on BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix with a two-hour set.

In April 2008, Harris stated that the only existing copy of his then-upcoming album, which he had been working on for seven months, was lost when the bag containing his laptop was misplaced during the baggage handling problems at the opening of London Heathrow Terminal 5.In an interview with Popjustice in April 2009, Harris admitted that while he did lose his bags at Heathrow, he lied about the laptop being in his luggage in order to buy himself some more time to finish recording the album, adding that the idea was concocted by him and his sound engineer. The album, Ready for the Weekend, was released in August 2009 and debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, eventually being certified gold by the BPI for shipments of 100,000 copies. "I'm Not Alone", released as the album's lead single in April 2009, debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart and was shortlisted for the Popjustice £20 Music Prize. The follow-up single, "Ready for the Weekend", reached number three. Other tracks included on the album are "Worst Day" featuring Izza Kizza and "Yeah Yeah Yeah La La La", which was used in a Coca-Cola advertisement in the summer of 2009.  Harris toured around the UK, Ireland, France, the Netherlands and the United States promoting the album. In June 2009, Harris appeared at the Summertime Ball at the Emirates Stadium, and in August, he made an appearance on the first Soccer AM show of the season. Harris performed at Wembley Stadium in October 2009 as part of the pre-game entertainment for the NFL International Series game between the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The third single from Ready for the Weekend, "Flashback", reached number eighteen in the UK, and the fourth, "You Used to Hold Me", charted at number twenty-seven.During promotion of the album, Harris hosted a series of videos on YouTube titled JAM TV, in which musicians such as Florence Welch, Goldie and Katy Perry tried to open pots of jam.In 2010, Harris received a BRIT Award nomination for British Male. On 14 November, Harris invaded the stage of The X Factor during a performance by Irish duo Jedward, holding a pineapple on his head and bending over to point at his buttocks. He was subsequently escorted from the studio by the security team and ejected from the ITV2 programme The Xtra Factor, where he was due to appear as a guest the same night. He later apologised on Twitter: "At the end of the day, I had a pineapple on my head. Sorry if I caused anyone embarrassment. Ps. I love Jedward." The same week, Harris spoke to The Chris Moyles Show and revealed that he had been "inspired to make a mockery of the show", as well as stating, "If you look at music it's a frightening stranglehold that Simon Cowell has got over the entire music chart in the UK at the moment."[19] On the same day, Jedward's mentor Louis Walsh, appearing on The Paul O'Grady Show, accused Harris of trying to "cash in" on the duo's fame, and claimed to not know who he was.[20] [edit]2010–present: 18 Months Main article: 18 Months

Harris performing in Australia Harris played at the 2010 Big Day Out, a music festival which takes place in several major cities in Australia and Auckland, New Zealand. In May 2010, he performed at Evolution Festival in Newcastle upon Tyne, and in July he played at Splendour in Nottingham and headlined at the Stockton International Riverside Festival in Stockton-on-Tees. In July 2010, Harris released a mix, titled L.E.D. Festival (short for L.E.D. Festival Presents... Calvin Harris), which was available for one month as a free covermount CD in Mixmag. Harris appeared at the tenth birthday of Our:House in Auckland, New Zealand, in November 2010, alongside Afrojack, and performed an hour-long DJ set at Australia's Steresonic Festival alongside Tiësto, Carl Cox, Afrojack and Major Lazer in November and December 2010, in several major Australian cities including Sydney and Melbourne. In 2011, he toured with Rihanna as a support act on the European leg of her Loud Tour; Rihanna was quoted to say that "Calvin is the perfect fit for the Loud tour. He is going to bring something unique and fun for the fans."Harris played the 2011 Mardi Gras Party in Sydney on 5 March.During March and April 2011, Harris was scheduled to be an opening act/DJ for Katy Perry on the UK leg of her California Dreams Tour, but he withdrew from the tour shortly before his first date, citing production issues and difficulties with Perry's management in his apology to her fans. Perry publicly criticised Harris via her Twitter feed, stating that the tour's other support acts had expressed no problems with their production arrangements, but Harris later said "it's all fine" between them and that he would still like to work with her in the future.Harris headlined Limelite at Metropolis Fremantle in Western Australia in March 2011 in celebration of the event's fourth birthday, where he played small samples of his new track, "Awooga", which was subsequently uploaded onto YouTube via his channel.Following "Awooga", Harris released the single "Bounce", a collaboration with Kelis that debuted at number two on the UK Singles Chart in June 2011. Another single, "Feel So Close", was released in August 2011 and also reached number two."Feel So Close" became Harris's first solo entry on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, peaking at number twelve.Harris performed at the 2011 Jingle Bell Ball concert, and was announced as one of the headline acts at a number of Southern Hemisphere 2011/2012 new year music festivals, including Shore Thing and Field Day in Sydney, as well as Rhythm and Vines in New Zealand.  "Let's Go" featuring Ne-Yo, released in April 2012, reached number two in the UK and Scotland, while reaching number six in Ireland. It was his second Hot 100 appearance as a main artist, charting at number seventeen. The song was commissioned for a Pepsi Max advertising campaign. "We'll Be Coming Back", featuring rapper Example, was released as the fourth single in July 2012. It peaked at number two in the UK, and reached number one in both Ireland and Scotland. The fifth single, "Sweet Nothing", features Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, and was released on 14 October 2012. It peaked at number one on the UK Singles Chart, marking Harris' first number-one single as main artist in the United Kingdom since his 2009 single, "I'm Not Alone". The song has so far peaked at number 26 on the Billboard Hot 100. These singles became part of his newest album, which was released on 29 October 2012 in the UK. He has said of the album, "I'm going for pretty epic-sounding dance records. I guess the whole sound has just moved on in terms of production as I've got a new studio and some new gear to make the sounds I wasn't able to make before." On 22 August 2012, Harris announced via Twitter that his third studio album will be titled 18 Months and will feature Kelis, Rihanna, Example, Nicky Romero, Ellie Goulding, Tinie Tempah, Florence Welch, Dizzee Rascal, Ne-Yo, Ayah Marar and Dillon Francis.  Harris was the house DJ at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards held at the Staples Center, Los Angeles, where he won Best Electronic Video for "Feel So Close" and Video of the Year alongside Rihanna for "We Found Love".

In 2007, Harris caught the attention of Australian pop singer Kylie Minogue after his recordings had been passed on to her by another record producer. This led to him co-writing and producing two songs on her 2007 album X—"Heart Beat Rock" and "In My Arms", the latter a top ten hit in the UK. Harris said that working with Minogue was "surreal, but fun" although he admitted to Mixmag in 2007 to "needing a few drinks before meeting her". Harris returned to work with Minogue on her album Aphrodite (2010), co-producing the track "Too Much". In 2008, Harris collaborated with rapper Dizzee Rascal on his single "Dance wiv Me", producing the track and singing the hook. The single reached number one in the UK and has been certified platinum by the BPI, selling 300,000 copies. It was shortlisted for the 2008 Popjustice £20 Music Prize and, in 2009, received a BRIT Award nomination for British Single and an Ivor Novello Award nomination for Best Contemporary Song. In 2009, he produced Dizzee Rascal's next single titled "Holiday", which also reached number one. He was supposed to make an appearance in its music video, but objected to dancing along in some scenes, wearing a certain shirt for the video and not wearing his "fly eye" glasses. Also in 2009, Harris made a guest appearance on Tiësto's song "Century" on the Dutch producer's album Kaleidoscope.Harris produced a track for English singer/rapper Example for his second album Won't Go Quietly (2010), "Time Machine", and mixed The Ting Tings' UK top forty single "Hands", having previously remixed the duo's singles "Great DJ" (2008) and "We Walk" (2009). In 2011, Harris featured on LMFAO's album Sorry for Party Rocking, appearing on the track "Reminds Me of You" which is based on Harris's own song "Awooga". Harris produced Tinchy Stryder's second single, "Off the Record" from his fourth studio album, Full Tank. The track had its première on 15 September 2011, and was released in the UK on 6 November 2011. Following a stint as her support act on the Australian leg of her tour, Harris produced "We Found Love" and "Where Have You Been" for Barbadian singer Rihanna. The former is the lead single from her sixth studio album, Talk That Talk, and was premiered in September 2011. It has reached number one in countries such as the UK and the United States, becoming Harris's first charting appearance on the Billboard Hot 100. In an interview for Q magazine, Harris said of the lyric "We found love in a hopeless place": "It could have been Jumpin Jaks in Dumfries (Harris' home town), I don't know exactly what I was thinking about. He co-wrote and co-produced the bonus track "One Life" for R&B singer Mary J. Blige's album My Life II... The Journey Continues (Act 1) (2011). In mid-April 2012, Billboard published an article on their website claiming that Harris had contributed several tracks to Kesha's upcoming second studio album, Warrior with their specific recording date being left unknown. Harris worked with American pop band Scissor Sisters on the single "Only the Horses" from their fourth studio album, Magic Hour. He wrote and produced Cheryl Cole's single "Call My Name", the lead single from her third album A Million Lights. In 2007, Harris contributed the song "Off & On" to Róisín Murphy's album Overpowered, but it was cut from the album; Harris later gave the song to Sophie Ellis-Bextor to record for her 2011 album Make a Scene. He said that Murphy was "a bit mental", "crazy" and a "twat" to reject the songs, though subsequently apologized in person to Murphy "for throwing my toys out of the pram because I said things that weren't very nice. She said: 'That's all right, we all say silly things sometimes.'"Harris also produced a remix of Dragonette's debut single "I Get Around" that was rejected by the band, whom he said "weren't very nice to me [...] they said, 'by the way, it's shit', and then asked me to change everything about it. I told them I couldn't because I was on a bus and that they could basically FUCK OFF. That's where we left it."In 2007, Kelis discussed plans to work with Harris on her fifth studio album, Flesh Tone (2010), saying that he was "very creative and exciting [...] very, very talented". Although she said they were "looking at doing something together" for the album, this did not materialise; Harris did, however, produce a remix of Flesh Tone's second single, "4th of July (Fireworks)", and later collaborated with her on his 2011 single "Bounce". Harris has said that in early 2008, he turned down the opportunity to work with American singer Lady Gaga before the release of her top-selling debut album, The Fame. He told The Sun, "Her name rang a bell, so I checked my emails and it turns out that on January 1, 2008, I got an email asking to work with her. I thought, 'Lady Gaga, what sort of name is that?' So I replied saying, 'Nah, I'm not into that.' Fast forward a year and she's the biggest thing. But I don't regret turning her down as I didn't think the song I heard then was that good." In a later interview, Harris stated he considers Gaga to be a "good artist".  American singer Katy Perry expressed an interest in working with Harris in 2009, and at one point they had pencilled recording sessions for her second album, Teenage Dream (2010), but no material was released. Harris worked with boy band JLS on songs for their second album, Outta This World (2010), but none of his work made the cut for the album. The third single from that album, "Eyes Wide Shut", was said to borrow heavily from Harris's own single "I'm Not Alone", but Harris said that it "wasn't [JLS's] fault and had nothing to do with them".[48] [edit]Concert tours

The show was amazing, worth the visit but the venue was extremely packed and there were numerous cases of pickpocketing on that night so just be aware of large crowds.

Calvin Harris (born Adam Richard Wiles; January 17, 1984 in Dumfries, Scotland), is a Scottish singer, songwriter and record producer. He was born and grew up in Dumfries, Scotland. His interest in electronic music surfaced in his early teenage years, producing his first bedroom demo by the age of 15.

His first album I Created Disco was released on 18 June 2007. The album contained up-tempo electroclash songs that were influenced by music from the 1980s. To promote ‘I Created Disco’, Harris embarked on a tour of the UK, supporting Faithless and Groove Armada.

The first release from the album was Vegas on limited edition vinyl and the first charted single released from the album was Acceptable In The 80’s, a tribute to the style and culture of the decade. The song reached the top ten on the UK singles chart, remaining on the chart for fifteen weeks. The Girls was the album’s second charted single. The fourth release from the album was Merrymaking At My Place however it only reached #43 in the UK chart.

‘Merrymaking At My Place’ caused Harris some un-needed press, as the song and video promoted filming parties at teenagers’ houses, and placing them on Youtube.

Harris’ second studio album Ready For The Weekend was released on August 17, 2009 in the United Kingdom. The first single, I’m Not Alone, was exclusively performed in Sydney, on New Year’s Eve. The single was released in April 2009. The new single debuted on BBC Radio 1 on Friday 23 January 2009, on the ‘Pete Tong’ radio show. The song featured on his MySpace with the infamous spoiler, which repeated the phrase ‘I Am Your Nan’ in a robotic voice. It debuted in the UK Singles Chart at #1 on Easter Sunday on downloads alone.

Harris rose to international prominence in 2012 with the release of his third studio album, 18 Months. Topping the UK charts, the album became his first to chart on the Billboard 200 in the US, reaching number 19. All eight of the album’s singles; “Bounce”, “Let’s Go”, “We’ll Be Coming Back”, “Sweet Nothing”, “Drinking from the Bottle”, “I Need Your Love”, “Thinking About You” and “Feel So Close”, along with “We Found Love” reached the top 10 of the UK Singles Chart. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calvin_Harris]

Harris has collaborated with numerous other recording artists, including Kylie Minogue, Rita Ora, John Newman, Florence Welch, Ellie Goulding, Ne-Yo, Cheryl Cole and Gwen Stefani. His collaboration with Rihanna led to two singles, “Where Have You Been” and “We Found Love”. The latter became an international success, giving Harris his first US number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100. Harris released his fourth studio album, Motion, in November 2014. It debuted at at number two in the UK and number five in the US, and became Harris’s second consecutive number-one album on the Dance/Electronic Albums chart. The album’s first three singles—”Under Control”, “Summer” and “Blame”—all topped the UK chart. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calvin_Harris]

Harris holds the record for the most top 10 hits from one studio album on the UK Singles Chart with nine hits, surpassing Michael Jackson. In October 2014, he became the first artist to place three songs simultaneously on the top 10 of Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Songs chart. He also became the first British solo artist to reach more than one billion streams on Spotify. Harris has received seven Brit Award nominations—two for Best British Male, and four Grammy nominations, winning a Grammy for Best Music Video in 2013. He received the British Academy’s Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year in 2013 and at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards was named Top Dance/Electronic Artist. Harris also runs his own record label Fly Eye Records. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calvin_Harris]

Forbes began reporting on Harris’s earnings in 2013, calculating that he earned $46 million between May 2012 and May 2013, for his music, tour and his residency in Las Vegas which placed him as the highest-paid DJ of the year. In 2014, Harris came in at number one on the list again for the second consecutive year with a total of $66 million in annual earnings. In 2015, Harris topped the highest-paid DJs list for a third consecutive year, having earned $66 million over the previous 12 months. On The Sunday Times Rich List published in April 2015, Harris was ranked the 30th richest British millionaire in music, with a personal fortune of £70 million ($105 million). [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calvin_Harris]

In February 2015, Harris started dating American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. By June 2015, the duo were ranked as the highest-paid celebrity couple in music over the past year by Forbes with combined earnings of over $146 million. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calvin_Harris]

Calvin Harris: Everything you need to know about the 'Miracle' DJ

Calvin Harris ISN'T his real name!

Calvin Harris has started 2024 with a fantastic collaboration called ' Lovers In a Past Life ', with Rag'n'Bone Man , announcing it on the fifth anniversary of their song ' Giant '. He was also nominated for a Dance Act at the BRIT Awards , which he won , and gave a fantastic performance of his hit ' Miracle ' with Ellie Goulding , on the star-studded night.

However, many years ago, Calvin wasn't know for his chart-topping music. How much do you know about the Scottish DJ/producer, who has had an epic career, and shows no signs of slowing down?

Who is Calvin Harris?

Calvin Harris is a Scottish DJ who rose to fame after posting his songs on MySpace. He signed a record deal in 2006 and has since topped the charts several times with his incredible hits. Some of his biggest songs include 'We Found Love' with Rihanna , 'Sweet Nothing' with Florence Welch, 'Blame' with John Newman , 'One Kiss' with Dua Lipa , and 'Miracle' with Ellie Goulding.

Despite being super successful now, it wasn't always that way for the Scottish DJ, who started his music career by creating and recording music in his bedroom as a teenager. It wasn't until his debut album 'I Created Disco', released in 2007, that he began to enjoy real success.

After Calvin Harris' second album 'Ready For The Weekend' debuted at Number 1 in 2009, he started to become a real music contender, and by the time he released his third album '18 Months' in 2012, he'd established himself as one of the biggest names in electronic music.

What is his real name?

Calvin Harris wasn’t born Calvin Harris. That’s right - the mastermind DJ was born with the real name of Adam Richard Wiles. Despite releasing his music under his stage name, you will find that Calvin Harris' real name is used in writing credits for his music.

Fans first realised Calvin Harris wasn’t the DJ’s real name when he was dating Taylor Swift back in 2016. When giving a speech at an award ceremony, Taylor thanked her ‘boyfriend Adam’, prompting lots of confused faces and Google searches for ‘Calvin Harris real name’!

WATCH: 11 singers' real names:

Is the dj on tour.

Calvin Harris is not currently on tour, however he has been announced to headline the Sunday night of TRNSMT festival in Scotland. This will be the first time he takes to the stage after his sell-out Ibiza residency.

The festival takes place Friday 12th - Sunday 14th July 2024.

He also has a number of residencies at clubs around the world.

What was Calvin's first immersive VR concert?

Calvin shared details of his first ever immersive VR concert in January 2023. The concert took place on TikTok and PICO (in Asia and Europe) on Friday 13th January at 8pm UK time.

The gig included an avatar of the popular DJ and took fans on: 'A musical journey through Calvin’s virtual universe, featuring audio reactive visuals in a nature inspired luminous world'.

Does Calvin write his own songs?

Yes, Calvin does write his own songs, in August 2022 he responded to a 'fan' who asked how he made his money. Calvin had the perfect response saying: 'Because I write, produce, mix, play every instrument and sometimes vocal. We found love, Summer, Feel so close for example 100% publishing because I did everything. Only reason I got Frank Ocean feature was he told me we found love was one of his favorite songs. I wrote that song'. (sic)

Does Calvin Harris like karaoke?

Surprising many of us, in an interview, Calvin revealed that he does like karaoke and his 'go to' karaoke song is Shania Twain's 'Man! I Feel Like A Woman'. The DJ told us in February 2024 that he did karaoke a couple of years ago, explaining: "The way that I delivered it is a bit different to the original. You know, it's a bit more like (in a gruff voice)...

"'Hey, hey man, I feel like...,' it’s all that. So I enjoy it, it's feels like I get something out of my system."

Is he dating Aarika Wolf?

Calvin Harris attended the BRIT Awards 2019 with Aarika Wolf. Aarika and Calvin started dating in 2018, although they also dated previously for a few months in both 2015 and 2017.

The pair have been linked as far back as 2014, when Aarika starred in the DJ's music video for his hit 'Blame' featuring John Newman. 'Blame' was Calvin's seventh UK Number 1 single, debuting at Number 1.

As well as appearing in Calvin' Harris' music video, Aarika Wolf is also a model. She was born in North Dakota, USA.

Back in 2018, Calvin and Aarika were involved in a serious car crash in California. According to American showbiz site TMZ, Aarika was driving a white Range Rover, when she reportedly hit another vehicle which was occupied by two girls. Pictures which were obtained by the publication show serious damage to the vehicle Aarika hit, with the airbags also being activated.

Calvin Harris later addressed the incident on social media tweeting, 'I promised myself I'd never do anything worthy of appearing in TMZ ever again but sadly this was out of my control thankfully everyone is ok'. (sic)

It's understood that Calvin and Aarika split in early 2022.

Is he married?

Calvin is married to Vick Hope. Vick was spotted sporting a rather gorgeous diamond ring on her engagement finger, with them appearing pretty loved up out and about in London in early 2022.

In September 2023 it was reported by many publications that the pair had married in a private ceremony. And in February 2024, the pair appeared on the Grammys' red carpet together, with Calvin taking to Instagram captioning his photo: 'Grammy night with the wife!'.

The couple also appeared at The BRIT Awards in March 2024, sitting at a table together. Calvin performed his hit 'Miracle' at the event, and won Dance Act.

When is Calvin Harris' birthday?

The superstar DJ grew up in Dumfries, Scotland with his family. Calvin has two older siblings - an older brother called Edward, and an older sister called Sophie.

When did he first release music.

Calvin Harris started making music when he was just 13 or 14-years-old, but he burst onto the music scene in 2007 with his debut album, 'I Created Disco', which he worked on after moving back home to Dumfries from London. His first album was all made using an Amiga 500+ - if you don't know what one of those is, here's what it looks like!

Calvin's journey to fame:

Among many other things, Calvin was eventually discovered through now-defunct social media site MySpace. He recorded his debut album ‘I Created Disco’ in his bedroom, after uploading a number of the tracks to MySpace.

He was scouted by a record company and signed before officially releasing the album which included hits ‘Acceptable in the 80s’ and ‘The Girls’ in 2007. His second album, 2009’s ‘Ready For The Weekend’, charted at Number 1 in the UK Charts and spawned hits ‘You Used To Hold Me’ and ‘I’m Not Alone’.

The 2012 release '18 Months’ saw Calvin Harris' star status continue to rise as he recruited an impressive list of guest vocalists such as the MASSIVE ‘I Need Your Love’ with Ellie Goulding , ‘We Found Love’ with Rihanna , as well as Tinie Tempah and Dizzee Rascal also contributing.

The collabs kept coming on 2014’s ‘Motion’ and ‘Funk Wav Bounces Vol.1’ was the soundtrack to Summer 2017 with tracks, including ‘Slide’ which Frank Ocean emerged from hibernation to feature on.

Does he sing in his songs?

Calvin Harris is now known for his superstar collaborations, however for those wondering ‘can Calvin Harris sing?’ The answer is a big fat yes! Calvin Harris provided the vocals for all the tracks on his debut album ‘I Created Disco’ which included ‘Acceptable in the 80s’ and 'The Girls’. He also sings on his 2009 songs ‘Ready For The Weekend’, ‘I’m Not Alone’ and ‘You Used To Hold Me’.

Calvin Harris’ third album ’18 months’ saw appearances from superstar vocalists such as Kelis on ‘Bounce’, Ne-Yo on ‘Let’s Go’ and Florence Welch on ‘Sweet Nothing’. However Calvin still voices one of the album’s stand out tracks ‘Feel So Close’. Calvin also provided the vocals on 2014’s Number 1 hit ‘Summer’ and 2016’s ‘My Way’.

Scroll through to see Calvin Harris' collaborations :

'dance wiv me' - dizzee rascal featuring calvin harris and chrome, 2008.

After releasing his debut album 'I Created Disco' in 2007, Calvin and Dizzee met at a festival that year. Dizzee had been a huge fan of 'Acceptable in the '80s', and the pair discussed working together. Calvin said of the collaboration, "Dizzee texted me, saying he'd done this a cappella over someone else's music, but his verse was too good for their music, so could he do it with me instead? So I spent a long time on it, to make sure it lived up to his expectations. I sent him the track, and he called me at 2 in the morning to say it was amazing, so I knew it was good." 'Bounce' - featuring Kelis, 2011

Calvin's next major collab came in the form of 2011 summer anthem 'Bounce' starring Kelis. The first single from his third album '18 Months', 'Bounce' peaked at Number 2 in the UK charts after being kept off the top spot by Example's 'Changed the Way You Kiss Me'. The song also marked Calvin's decision to stop singing on his tracks; he said, "I'll do tracks with people who can sing well – proper artists, proper performers. I can focus on what I'm much better at, which is making music. I'm just not cut out for that role. I kind of fell into it a few years ago – the live show had to happen, I had to be the frontman because I was doing the vocals on the songs. It went all right. I spent a few years trying to get it really properly good, but it dawned on me it wasn't going to get much better. I've taken the singing thing as far as I can." Watch the video on YouTube here.

'We Found Love' - Rihanna featuring Calvin Harris, 2011

Teaming up with Rihanna for another 2011 summer banger, 'We Found Love' went to Number 1 in the UK and was certified 3X Platinum, selling over 10 million copies worldwide. Former X Factor star Leona Lewis was originally going to sing the song, but she didn't commit and it went to Rihanna instead. Calvin said of the song, "'We Found Love,' is the most successful thing I've done ever... It's not strictly a song by me, obviously, it's by Rihanna. She sings it...It was great to work with her... No one could have taken it as far as she did. You can't escape it in America. I've heard it a lot. I've heard it probably more times today than I did when I was mixing it. Which is a good thing." Watch the video on YouTube here.

'Let's Go' - featuring Ne-Yo, 2012

Calvin worked with Ne-Yo on 'Let's Go', released in March 2012 from his third album '18 Months'. The track peaked at Number 2 in the UK, being held off the top spot by 'Call Me Maybe' by Carly Rae Jepsen. Watch the video on YouTube here.

'Sweet Nothing' - featuring Florence Welch, 2012

After working on a remix of Florence and the Machine's 2012 single 'Spectrum' from their second album 'Ceremonials', Calvin became interested in working with lead singer Florence Welch. She wasn't immediately available, but he finally tracked her down and they worked together on 'Sweet Nothing'. He said, "With Florence, she was really busy at that time. She was in the middle of a tour and she had like three days to record something, so I wasn't there, anything could've come back. I didn't think she'd do it. She seemed a really unattainable artist to reach for. I think she would've done it if the song was right and the people were right and it was all at the right time." Watch the video on YouTube here.

'Drinking from the Bottle' - featuring Tinie Tempah, 2013

Calvin worked with Tinie Tempah on 2013 single 'Drinking from the Bottle' which appeared on his album '18 Months', peaking at Number 5. Watch the video on YouTube here.

It has since been changed. Watch the video on YouTube here.

Calvin Harris onstage in Philadelphia, in 2015.

Calvin Harris’s 20 greatest songs – ranked!

With his new album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol 2, out next week, we take a look through the Scottish producer’s hit-studded career

20. Scissor Sisters – Only the Horses (2012)

Having met Jake Shears during sessions for Kylie Minogue’s 2010 album, Aphrodite, Harris was asked to do some extra knob-twiddling on this barnstorming single from the band’s Magic Hour album. The lyrics eschew camp in favour of melancholic soul-searching, while Harris guides the song into its chorus with an audible snap, like a discharging party popper.

19. Calvin Harris – Hard to Love ft Jessie Reyez (2017)

While 2017’s career-redefining Funk Wav Bounces Vol 1 dabbled in laid-back funk, 80s bounce and disco, it was this album closer – anchored by Canadian-Colombian Reyez’s roughly hewn vocal – that showed Harris could do downtempo. Over a simple scratchy guitar figure and pitter-patter beats, Reyez is allowed the space to pull the listener into her orbit.

18. Love Regenerator – Lonely ft Riva Starr and Sananda Maitreya (2022)

In recent years, Harris has funnelled his more dance-leaning output through his Love Regenerator pseudonym, creating ad-hoc singles that feel less pressured than his major-label output. The best of the bunch is the slowly unfurling Lonely, which features additional production from Riva Starr and a gorgeous central performance from the artist formerly known as Terence Trent D’Arby.

17. Sophie Ellis Bextor – Off & On (2011)

Originally recorded, although not used, by Róisín Murphy for her 2007 pop opus Overpowered, this Cathy Dennis co-write eventually found its way to Sophie Ellis-Bextor . Utilising an oscillating synth riff to anchor the lyrics’ sense of confusion, it eventually starts to disintegrate like the relationship Ellis-Bextor is airily describing.

16. Calvin Harris – New Money ft 21 Savage (2022)

Of the handful of Funk Wav Bounces Vol 2 singles to emerge so far – all crowded by guest stars fighting for their 10 seconds in the sun – only this svelte slice of cascading funk has a chorus that sticks. And what a chorus it is, with Atlanta rapper 21 Savage cooing: “Gucci garments / Kush smell like armpits,” over Harris’ strutting bass.

15. Calvin Harris – Acceptable in the 80s (2007)

With an instantly recognisable central riff – utilised ad infinitum on various Channel 4 TV shows – Acceptable in the 80s channels the titular decade and the playful electronic mode of Around the World-era Daft Punk. Any hint of French fancy is undermined, however, by Harris’ deadpan singing style.

14. Dizzee Rascal – Dance Wiv Me (2008)

Head turned by Acceptable in the 80s, Dizzee Rascal asked Harris to be part of his pop-leaning fourth album, Tongue n’ Cheek. As well as conjuring up the song’s gloriously sloshed backing track – referred to by Pitchfork as sounding like “H&M disco” – Harris delivers some key lines including the brilliant instruction: “Tell your boyfriend hold your jar.”

13. Cheryl – Call My Name (2012)

While it definitely suffers from being a We Found Love redux, there is something beautifully basic about the way Call My Name hoovers up various EDM strands. From the simple synth riff and signposted drops to the lacklustre “ah, oh, oh, oh” ad-libs, so much of it feels phoned in, yet as a whole it carries a strange magic.

12. Calvin Harris – Slide ft Frank Ocean and Migos (2017)

As Funk Wav Bounces Vol 1’s lead single – and Harris’ slinky sidestep away from pure dance – Slide had some pretty heavy lifting to do. Built around a breezy, handclap-heavy beat and warm organ sounds, it features a horizontal-sounding Frank Ocean sleepily ekeing out the song’s chorus before Migos quickly counters that energy with a delirious verse.

11. Calvin Harris – Outside ft Ellie Goulding (2014)

Outside – the pair’s second collaboration following 2012’s I Need Your Love – places Goulding’s ethereal voice lightly atop a swirl of strings that eventually form the song’s piercing riff. While other songs from 2014’s hit-heavy album, Motion, tried hard to tick dance-pop’s boxes, Outside feels relatively restrained.

Normani performing at the 2021 MTV Video Music awards.

10. Normani x Calvin Harris – Checklist ft Wizkid (2018)

Six months after the demise of the sporadically good girlband Fifth Harmony, every discerning pop fan’s favourite member, Normani, teamed up with Harris for two singles. The pick of the pair is this Afroswing-inspired, Wizkid-assisted banger, which finds Normani half-rapping her frustrations over a nocturnal, club-ready beat that seems to ooze sweat from its pores.

9. Calvin Harris – This Is What You Came For ft Rihanna (2016)

Co-writer Taylor Swift was originally credited under a pseudonym to avoid her brief relationship with Harris dominating the discourse; Harris later confirmed the co-write, but pointedly noted he “wrote the music, produced the song, arranged it and cut the vocals”. Despite initially being overshadowed by the drama surrounding its creation, this third Harris/Rihanna collaboration is a downbeat-yet-danceable opus that swirls like a tornado.

8. Calvin Harris – I’m Not Alone (2009)

Described by Harris as “a big stadium dance tune, somewhere between Snow Patrol, Faithless and Grandaddy”, the melancholic I’m Not Alone starts small, with Harris intoning mournfully over a scratchy guitar riff, before suddenly building to its glow-sticks-in-the-air climax. Part of the US EDM explosion, in 2010 it was sampled by Chris Brown on his US Top 10 single Yeah 3x.

7. Rita Ora – I Will Never Let You Down (2014)

Channelling the overwhelming joy of 80s Whitney, this 2014 single – solely written and produced by Harris – is built around a squirming synth riff that slowly detonates into the song’s skyscraping chorus. In fact, just when you think it has peaked, Harris unleashes a heavily filtered guitar riff for an extra dash of hysteria.

6. Kylie Minogue – In My Arms (2007)

Harris’s first high-profile production for another artist, In My Arms encases a lovely lyric about the power of a good hug in a hermetically sealed electropop confection. Starting with a delicious spoken-word intro that poses pop’s eternal question – “How do you describe a feeling?” – the song is quickly launched skywards by Harris and co-producer Biff Stannard via a cavalcade of synths.

5. Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa – One Kiss (2018)

Eschewing EDM for a club-ready BPM, the sophisticated, Brit-award-winning One Kiss finds Harris dabbling in everything from UK garage to diva house, its post-chorus a wordless nostalgia spiral back to 90s dancefloors. Dua Lipa’s typically aloof vocal performance makes its lyrical come-on feel strangely tinged with sadness.

4. Calvin Harris – Bounce ft Kelis (2011)

After a run of singles featuring his own … unique vocals, Harris utilised Kelis’s deliciously husky tones on this buoyant lead track from his third album, 18 Months. “We bounce to this track / And I don’t care what anyone thinks about that,” she sings nonchalantly over a pinging synth riff that slowly builds into one of his best hands-aloft explosions.

3. Calvin Harris – Feels ft Pharrell, Katy Perry and Big Sean (2017)

After helping confirm EDM as the planet’s biggest, noisiest genre, Harris changed tack on his fifth album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol 1, switching pounding house riffs and earthquaking drops for featherlight disco. The relaxed pace works perfectly on this sun-drenched UK No 1, in which an audibly smiling Pharrell and a restrained Perry, piña colada in hand, slink around Harris’ airy production.

2. Calvin Harris and Sam Smith – Promises (2018)

Featuring playful, giggly background vocals from co-writer Reyez, the heady Promises feels buoyed up by the rush of new love. Harris allows Smith’s soaring vocals to shine and finesses the production with house-style piano stabs, roving bass and delicate little funk guitar flourishes. It is a further reminder that Smith should swap bloated balladry for lithe dance music for good.

1. Rihanna ft Calvin Harris – We Found Love (2011)

Originally recorded by Leona Lewis and later offered to Nicole Scherzinger, the strangely profound We Found Love’s journey to Rihanna may have been bumpy, but it is difficult to imagine it being sung so well by anyone else. Solely written and produced by Harris – a rarity in a pop world where credits often read like Wikipedia entries – it is a dance banger that celebrates simplicity even while discussing something as complex as love. Harris conjures up a frantic backdrop of two-finger synth riffs and firing EDM beats, while Rihanna’s repeated mantra of “we found love in a hopeless place” shifts from being an ingeniously simple pop lyric to somehow encapsulating every unspoken emotion. Cementing Rihanna’s superstar status, it propelled Harris into the production big leagues.

Calvin Harris' Wife Confesses She Secretly Listens To His Ex-Girlfriend Taylor Swift's Music

Calvin Harris and Taylor Swift might have had some bad blood after their messy breakup , but Vick Hope, who is now married to Harris, hasn’t let that keep her from being a Swiftie.

“Soon as my husband goes away, I listen to Taylor Swift,” Hope said during Monday’s episode of the radio show “ Going Home with Vick, Katie and Jamie .” “That’s just when I get... just a little fill. Just a couple of songs, get it out of my system. Then it’s done.”

In case you missed it, or just need a refresher: Harris and Swift met in 2015 and dated for 15 months. When they broke things off, People initially reported that an insider said there was “no drama” between them. “Things just don’t work out sometimes. No one cheated,” the source said. But the peaceful vibes apparently didn’t last long.

A few weeks after the split, the Scottish DJ called out Swift on Twitter, following reports that she’d written Harris’ summer hit “This Is What You Came For” under the pseudonym “Nils Sjöberg.”

“I figure if you’re happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex bf down for something to do,” Harris wrote in a series of since-deleted tweets, Us Weekly reported . “I know you’re off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy [Perry] ETC but I’m not that guy, sorry. I won’t allow it.”

Harris added: “Please focus on the positive aspects of YOUR life because you’ve earned a great one.”

He later recanted his remarks.

“It was completely the wrong instinct,” Harris told British GQ  in 2020. “I was protecting what I see as my one talent in the world being belittled. It felt like things were piling on top of me, and that was when I snapped.”

Swift briefly dated “Thor” star Tom Hiddleston right after her split from Harris, before entering a six-year relationship with Joe Alwyn in 2017. The two broke up in April 2023.

Harris reconnected with his former flame, model Aarika Wolf, in 2018 after his breakup with Swift. They dated for four years . He later began a relationship with Hope, a British TV presenter. They married in September 2023.

So, are Swift and Harris on friendly terms now? Some fans think the “Cruel Summer” singer-songwriter gave Harris the cold shoulder at this year’s Grammys , so maybe they just don’t feel so close these days.
