Carnival’s Faster to the Fun: Are the priority cruise perks worth it?

Faster to the Fun

You don't have to be a loyal cruise guest to enjoy priority perks on Carnival Cruise Line . Even first-time cruisers can achieve VIP status with Carnival's Faster to the Fun.

What is Faster to the Fun? It's a paid add-on to your cruise fare that gives regular passengers an expedited embarkation process and other exclusive perks. The program was paused during the pandemic, but Carnival brought back FTTF in late 2022.

But is it a game-changer or a clever upsell for cruisers?

If you're wondering what the benefits are, how much it costs and whether it's worth it, we've put together this guide on everything you need to know about Carnival's Faster to the Fun. We'll also tell you how and when to book the Faster to the Fun package if you decide it's the right option for you.

What is Faster to the Fun on Carnival?

Carnival's Faster to the Fun is a package you can upgrade to on most sailings that gives you access to priority benefits from the moment you check in until you disembark on the last day of your sailing. The idea is to maximize your vacation fun by spending less time waiting.

That means getting on board early (right after VIFP Club loyalty program Diamond and Platinum members and suite guests) to hit the pool deck buffet before the crowds come or grab a spot in an empty hot tub. You can drop your bags off in your room right away because you can get into your cabin immediately, skip the long lines at guest services when you need assistance and more.

carnival 4 day cruise $149

Think of it as paying your way into certain VIFP Club Diamond- and Platinum-level benefits that would otherwise typically take at least 10 sailings with Carnival to earn.

What are the benefits of Faster to the Fun?

Seven main perks are included with Carnival's Faster to the Fun program. Here's what you get when you upgrade:

  • Priority check-in: Head straight to the Priority line to check in when you get to the terminal on embarkation day. This dedicated security and check-in lane is set aside exclusively for Priority guests (that includes Diamond and Platinum loyalty program members and suite guests). Even though you get priority boarding, you should still select an arrival appointment time during online check-in.
  • Early stateroom access: Once on board, you'll have immediate access to your room so you can drop off your bags. While your shipmates are lugging backpacks and carry-ons around the ship, you'll be exploring the ship, lounging by the pool or eating lunch bag-free.
  • Express luggage: If you check your luggage with the porters on the pier, your bags will be expedited to your stateroom ahead of other passengers' so you can unpack and settle in sooner.
  • Priority guest services access: Folks with Faster to the Fun can access a dedicated phone number to and priority line at the guest services desk. If you experience any issues on board, you can have them addressed or get your questions answered more quickly.
  • Priority dining reservations: You will get priority reservations in the main dining room (your preferred pick of early or late seating) and at specialty restaurants. If you chose the flexible Your Time Dining open-seating option, this benefit won't apply to the main dining room since you don't need to make reservations.
  • Priority water shuttle boarding: If you're visiting any ports that require tendering , you'll get priority boarding on the water shuttles that take you from the ship to shore and back.
  • Priority debarkation: You can choose an early or late time to disembark your ship when it returns to its home port.

While many of these Faster to the Fun benefits are similar to the perks given to VIFP Club Diamond and Platinum members, Faster to the Fun doesn't include other VIFP perks such as complimentary laundry service, an invite to the VIFP party on board or access to the Captain's Lounge, which is a dedicated VIP waiting area for Diamond and Platinum members at the port terminal.

How much is Faster to the Fun on Carnival?

The Faster to the Fun price generally starts at $59.95 per cabin for sailings departing from the U.S., but it varies by factors such as cruise length, your ship and departure port. (The Carnival website currently has an FTTF upgrade for two-day sailings from Brisbane, Australia, listed for as low as $39.95.)

The price of Faster to the Fun is per cabin, so the benefits apply to everyone staying in the room. Since Carnival charges per cabin — no matter how many people you have in one room — families or other groups of four to a cabin will have a lower per-person cost for the program.

The chart below outlines how much Faster to the Fun costs based on cruise duration, but prices are subject to change. Only one person needs to book the upgrade online, which will automatically apply to everyone in the same room.

How do I purchase Faster to the Fun?

Faster to the Fun can only be purchased online at Carnival's website before the cruise. It's considered a package, so you'll find the upgrade option under the In-Room Gifts & Shopping tab, listed as Faster to the Fun. Click on your cruise ship departure port to check prices and availability.

Only one person in the room needs to purchase Faster to the Fun for all of the guests sharing the cabin to receive the benefits.

The package option usually opens for booking six to 18 months before embarkation day. You can call Carnival's Guest Services line to find out when Faster to the Fun sales will open for your sailing.

Faster to the Fun isn't available for cruises in Europe; ships leaving from Honolulu or Norfolk; or any of the Carnival Journeys sailings (a series of special sailings to more off-the-beaten-path destinations).

If you want to upgrade to Faster to the Fun, book as soon as you can because availability is limited. Carnival intentionally controls the number of people who can purchase the Faster to the Fun package because the cruise line wants to make sure everyone eligible for these priority perks — from FTTF guests to Diamond and Platinum members and suite passengers — gets the preferred service levels they're being guaranteed.

Related: Which cruise ship activities should you book ahead of time?

Carnival limits Faster to the Fun capacity based on the number of Diamond and Platinum guests who've booked your cruise because they're eligible for many of the same priority benefits. If you let everyone sailing pay for priority access, it basically cancels itself out.

Faster to the Fun sells out consistently, and it can happen quickly. However, additional spots can open up closer to your sail date. If the program is not showing as available for your sailing, it's worth checking the Carnival website in the months leading up to your cruise, since there isn't a waitlist to be notified automatically if anyone cancels or fewer Diamond and Platinum cruisers book than expected.

Is Faster to the Fun worth it?

Determining whether Faster to the Fun is worth it to you can depend on several factors, such as where you're sailing, the length of the cruise and the size of your travel party. Ultimately, it comes down to what type of traveler you are. Are you the type of person who can't stand waiting in line and wants to save time, or would you rather save some money on your trip?

If you're deciding based on cost, know that the price per person is lower the shorter your cruise is and the more people you have in a cabin. The Faster to the Fun package is cheapest on short two- and three-day sailings , which is when it's most important to maximize your time and get on board early to start enjoying your vacation.

Related: 43 Carnival Cruise Line tips, tricks and hacks to enhance your vacation at sea

If you're a family of four going on a short weekend cruise and want to get straight to the fun part of your vacation, the price is less than $15 per person (assuming you're all sharing a cabin). However, Faster to the Fun might make less sense for a larger family staying in multiple rooms since you'll have to pay for each additional stateroom.

carnival 4 day cruise $149

You can also think about whether Faster to the Fun is worth it based on how much you'll need its perks. For example, priority check-in, early stateroom access and express luggage delivery are a few of the biggest benefits of Faster to the Fun that let you maximize your vacation time. You don't have to lug your bags to the buffet or pool deck while you wait for your room to be ready or worry about packing a separate carry-on for items like bathing suits that you might need right away before your luggage gets delivered to your room.

But if you choose a later check-in appointment time toward the tail end of embarkation, you can still have a similar experience without Faster to the Fun since check-in lines usually aren't long by that point. Your cabin should be ready, and if you want, you can carry your luggage on board rather than checking it.

Some of the other perks might not even apply during your trip. For example, if you aren't stopping at ports requiring tendering or if you've booked a shore excursion on a tender day, you don't need the priority water shuttle benefit. If you plan to carry your luggage onto the ship, you don't need it expedited to your room.

You don't need dining reservations, priority or otherwise, if you've opted into Your Time open-seating dining and don't plan to splurge on specialty restaurants. And if you have an early flight out on debarkation day, the cruise line will automatically give you an early departure time. That already cancels out four of the seven priority perks.

Here's when Faster to the Fun is definitely not worth it: when you're a Diamond or Platinum member or a suite guest who already gets these same perks. If you're a VIFP Club Red or Gold member, however, FTTF will give you a taste of the upper loyalty tier life with benefits otherwise only available at the Diamond and Platinum level.

Bottom line

The decision ultimately comes down to your travel style. Faster to the Fun is worthwhile if you're willing to pay for convenience, don't have the patience for waiting in lines and love feeling like a VIP. But if you are cruising on a budget, you can find ways to avoid long lines and wait times with some smart planning and flexibility with your timing.

Carnival has a cruise for 4 nites from Nov 17 - 21 for $149. It departs Miami and goes to Key West and Cozumel, Mexico. Has anyone been on this Carnival Imagination cruise and can tell us what it's like?

snotty reply, I know, but you get what you pay for. I've often debated with the issue of if it was all I could afford, would I still go? Having been on DCL , I just don't personally think I could do a Carnival-but that's just me.

I think if you're looking for a cheap getaway it will do but don't go thru the whole thing comparing to DCL . Of course there are many aspects that won't be the same but then again neither is the price. We cruised on the Imagination in 05. It was our 2nd cruise, different itinerary than what they're offering you. It's an older ship and not sleek and modern with lots of balconies like newer ships. We had fun but my kids never want to go to the clubs. To be fair though, they don't want to go to DCL clubs either. I get that, "But don't you want to be with me Mommy?" We just chilled by the pool and dh took the kids to the arcade at night. Not much entertainment for kids outside the kids club. It was still nice to escape the cold and have family time together. Food was good as was cabin service. Usually cheap prices bring a rougher crowd. jmho.

My happily ever after began on Castaway Cay

I sailed on Sensation, Imagination's sister ship. During the first hour of boarding I was desperately trying to scramble to find a way OFF of this ship. It was old and dirty and I thought I was in for a miserable few days ahead of me. Luckily, I was wrong. Yes, it's budget. Yes, it's ugly. Sure there's a party crowd on board. But, gotta agree with a previous poster. The food was excellent. There aren't as many choices as Disney, but everything tasted great. The entertainment was excellent. The beds were super comfy once you get past the ugly. They had first run in-room movies. And the activities were fun. We found the party animals were hanging at the bars. We, on the other hand, were jumping around to the piano sing along, comedian, shows, casino, etc. And the caribbean is, well, the caribbean. If you can get away cheap, do it. Did you all see the RCCL prices? $399.00 for Independence? And $499.00 for Liberty of the Seas? I found $249 for NCL Pearl and $99.00 for NCL Sky. I think the economy crunch has hit the cruise market. Hey, if the food is good, the beds are comfy and the entertainment is good, I'm happy! happy sails. Just don't expect Disney and you'll have a great time.

Oh, BTW, forgot to mention, the spa has excellent deals! I got a 30 minute head neck and shoulder massage for $25.00. The next day I added the feet to same package for $45.00. It was amazing! But if you are a drinker, they allow you to bring wine. Their alcohol prices are crazy expensive.

I've been on that ship before out of LA so I know what to expect. I plan on having a great time. To the OP - it's nice that the Carnival ship goes somewhere besides Nassau and a private island! It would take a lot to get me to sail on Carnival again. I sailed on 2 brand new ships and one of the older ones. Service was better on the older ship.

ruadisneyfan2 said: This is how I feel about most cruise ships except for DCL's. Princess especially has ugly ships, on the exterior anyway. I've never cruised them but it looks like its butt got paddled really hard and stayed that way. They all seem to be designed for capacity, not beauty. DCL specifically said when they designed their ships, they wanted them to look like old-fashioned ocean liners from a bygone era. I hope the new ships don't look boxy. Click to expand...

Working Mom of twins!

Our first cruise was on the Magic. We booked an OV guarantee and got upgraded to a Cat. 6 handicapped room (which we did NOT request...)! The trip was near perfect and certainly turned us into cruise-lovers. We LOVED every moment of the cruise and DCL in general. However... Our next two cruise opportunities required us to sail on Sunday which meant we couldn't book a 7 day DCL vacation. So, we chose Carnival (the Miracle and the Destiny). While the Carnival decor is not nearly as elegant as Dinsey (understatement of the year), we found the cruises very enjoyable. The food was as good as Disney's and the beds were nicer. In the end, we made our minds up prior to cruising that we wouldn't compare Carnival to Disney and would "lower" our standards for these cruises. Overall, we like Disney more but a Carnival cruise is WAYYYYYY better than no cruise at all. Just be sure to go with an open mind!

How Carnival’s Latest Price Hike Could Impact Your Next Cruise

Andrea Santillan

Carnival Cruise Line has increased the cost of Faster to the Fun in 2024. The for-fee priority embarkation program has increased prices by $10-$20 per cabin, depending on the length of the cruise.

faster to the fun in 2024 cruise

Priority embarkation and its perks are offered to US- and Canada-based guests on a per stateroom per cruise basis.

Faster to the Fun in 2024: New Rates

Other than the prices, the perks and rules remain the same.

What are the perks of FTTF?

  • Express check-in
  • Early luggage drop-off and delivery
  • Dedicated phone extension and exclusive line for Guest Services
  • Priority reservations at the main dining room and specialty restaurants
  • Priority boarding of ship-to-shore shuttles
  • Tailored debarkation schedule

Interested in purchasing FTTF? Here’s what you need to know:

long beach cruise terminal

  • Diamond and platinum members of Carnival’s loyalty program, the Very Important Fun Person Club (VIFP), don’t need to purchase it because it’s already included in their loyalty status. Similarly, those who opted for suites get the same benefits except for the dedicated phone line and exclusive Guest Services phone access.
  • As long as one person in the stateroom enrolls in FTTF, the benefits apply to all its occupants.
  • FTTF can only be availed before your cruise. Once you’ve boarded, you cannot purchase it or any of its perks separately.
  • FTTF isn’t available for Carnival Journeys. It also isn’t applicable if you’re departing from Norfolk, San Francisco, or Europe.

For the full list of guidelines, refer to Carnival’s FTTF FAQ page .

Though FTTF was suspended in 2020 due to the pandemic, Carnival began offering it again in 2022 as health protocols became less stringent and cruise operations returned to normal.

Carnival first launched Faster to the Fun in 2012, offering priority embarkation to guests. It has seen numerous price increases over the past decade.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

carnival 4 day cruise $149

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

carnival 4 day cruise $149

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

carnival 4 day cruise $149

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

carnival 4 day cruise $149

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
