Avatar

Are you looking to upgrade your next Celebrity cruise? You’re in luck! Celebrity offers a variety of ways to bid on upgrades, from staterooms to suites. In this article, we’ll walk you through the process of bidding on Celebrity cruise upgrades, so you can get the best possible deal on your next trip.

We’ll cover everything from how to find available upgrades to how to place a bid. We’ll also provide tips on how to increase your chances of winning an upgrade. So whether you’re looking for a simple cabin upgrade or a luxurious suite, read on for all the information you need to know!

How Do Celebrity Cruise Upgrade Bids Work?

Celebrity Cruise Line offers a variety of ways to upgrade your cruise, including bidding on an upgrade. When you bid on an upgrade, you’re essentially entering into a blind auction with other guests who are also interested in the same cabin type. The highest bidder will win the upgrade, and the price you pay will be the difference between the cost of the upgraded cabin and the cost of the cabin you originally booked.

How to Place a Bid on a Celebrity Cruise Upgrade

To place a bid on a Celebrity Cruise upgrade, you’ll need to log in to your Celebrity Cruise account and go to the “My Cruises” section. From there, you’ll be able to see a list of all of your upcoming cruises. Click on the cruise that you’re interested in upgrading, and then click on the “Upgrade” link.

You’ll then be presented with a list of available upgrades. Each upgrade will have a description, a price, and a deadline for bidding. To place a bid, simply enter the amount that you’re willing to pay for the upgrade and click on the “Place Bid” button.

How to Withdraw a Bid on a Celebrity Cruise Upgrade

If you change your mind about an upgrade, you can withdraw your bid at any time before the deadline. To withdraw your bid, simply log in to your Celebrity Cruise account and go to the “My Cruises” section. From there, you’ll be able to see a list of all of your upcoming cruises. Click on the cruise that you’ve bid on, and then click on the “Upgrade” link.

You’ll then be presented with a list of all of your bids. Click on the “Withdraw Bid” link next to the bid that you want to withdraw.

When Will I Find Out If My Bid Was Successful?

The results of the upgrade auction will be announced on the day of your cruise. If you’re the highest bidder, you’ll be contacted by Celebrity Cruise Line and your upgrade will be confirmed. If you’re not the highest bidder, you’ll be refunded the amount that you bid.

What Factors Affect the Price of a Celebrity Cruise Upgrade?

The price of a Celebrity Cruise upgrade can vary depending on a number of factors, including:

  • The type of cabin you’re upgrading to
  • The time of year you’re cruising
  • The length of your cruise
  • The demand for upgrades

In general, the more expensive the cabin you’re upgrading to, the higher the price you’ll pay. The same is true for cruises during peak season. If you’re looking for a good deal on an upgrade, consider cruising during the off-season or choosing a less expensive cabin type.

Bidding on a Celebrity Cruise upgrade can be a great way to get a better cabin at a lower price. However, it’s important to remember that there’s no guarantee that your bid will be successful. If you’re not willing to take a risk, you may be better off booking an upgrade directly with Celebrity Cruise Line.

Here are some additional tips for bidding on a Celebrity Cruise upgrade:

  • Set a budget before you start bidding. This will help you avoid overspending.
  • Be realistic about your chances of winning. If you’re bidding on a popular cabin type during peak season, you’re going to have to compete with a lot of other people.
  • Don’t be afraid to withdraw your bid if you change your mind. You can always place a new bid later on.

By following these tips, you can increase your chances of winning a Celebrity Cruise upgrade and enjoying your cruise in style.

How to Bid on a Celebrity Cruise Upgrade

Celebrity Cruises offers a variety of ways to upgrade your cruise, including bidding on an auction. Bidding on an auction is a great way to get a great deal on an upgrade, but it’s important to know how to bid in order to get the best price.

Here are a few tips for bidding on a Celebrity Cruise upgrade:

1. Do your research. Before you start bidding, take some time to research the different types of upgrades that are available and the average prices that they sell for. This will help you to set a realistic budget and to avoid overpaying for an upgrade. 2. Set a budget. Once you know how much you’re willing to spend on an upgrade, you can start setting your bids. It’s important to be realistic about your budget and to be prepared to walk away if you don’t get the upgrade that you want. 3. Be patient. Bidding on an auction can be a waiting game. It’s important to be patient and to wait for the right opportunity to come along. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t win the first few auctions that you bid on. 4. Don’t be afraid to walk away. If you’re not getting the results that you want, don’t be afraid to walk away from the auction. There will always be other opportunities to upgrade your cruise.

  • Bid early and often. The earlier you bid on an upgrade, the more likely you are to get it. This is because there are fewer bidders competing for the upgrade at the beginning of the auction.
  • Be strategic with your bids. Don’t just bid the maximum amount that you’re willing to pay for an upgrade. Instead, start by bidding a little lower and then increase your bid as needed. This will help you to get the best possible price.
  • Be prepared to negotiate. If you’re bidding against another person, you may be able to negotiate a lower price. Be prepared to walk away from the auction if you don’t get the price that you want.

By following these tips, you can increase your chances of getting a great deal on a Celebrity Cruise upgrade.

Our experience with Celebrity Cruises MoveUp upgrade bidding program is unlike anything we’ve experienced before. Before we dive in, I need to start by saying that we are Celebrity Cruises novices. We have not sailed on them previously, and quite honestly, we hadn’t really looked at them much as an alternative to Oceania Cruises, our preferred cruise line. We’d heard largely good things about Celebrity Cruises from our fellow Oceania passengers, particularly about Suite Class, when we asked about other cruise lines people have sailed. However, nearly every Celebrity Cruises “review” ended with something to the effect of “but the food is better on Oceania and we like being on smaller ships even though Oceania’s entertainment is lacking.” (apologies to all the Celebrity Cruises devotees; feel free to tell me why they were wrong)

On an Oceania Cruises sailing in 2021, just coming back from the pandemic (we were masked, there were no seats at the bars, and our 1,200 passenger ship had less than 400 passengers) we defied the odds and actually managed to make some new friends during this period of anti-social-distancing . Like us, they were devoted Oceania Cruises passengers, but were telling us that they had just booked a Galapagos cruise on Celebrity based on the strong endorsement of their travel agent. They suggested we look into the ship – Celebrity Flora, the itinerary, and if we liked what we saw, that we consider joining them onboard in late 2023. We did our research and saw that Flora is a beautiful ship with great reviews, that unlike most Celebrity Cruises ships, this one is all-inclusive like a lot of expedition ships including transfers, adult beverages, tips, etc. all included in the fare as well as the steep fees charged by Ecuador that fund the protection of the national park that encompasses much of the Galapagos Islands. It looked great to us and hey, we’re not getting any younger, so we went for it. Several cruises later, we’re now approximately 30 days out from our cruise.

Given my passion (obsession???) for all things cruising, I’ve been researching as much as I can about Celebrity Cruises, their Captain’s Club loyalty program, the fleet, and in particular Celebrity Flora, a one-of-a-kind vessel designed to transport no more than 100 passengers around the Galapagos Islands. In addition to studying the amazing destination itself. This research resulted in two posts covering possible concerns – Is Ecuador Safe? If Not, What Does This Mean for Galapagos Cruises? and Bird Flu – A Threat to Expedition Cruises???

All this research led me to something that doesn’t have a parallel with our familiar Oceania Cruises – the opportunity to bid on an upgraded cabin. The program called MoveUp allows just that, for you to bid to upgrade on one or more cabin types for your cruise. Celebrity Cruises says that “In just a few clicks, you can submit an offer to upgrade your stateroom on your upcoming cruise.”

Celebrity Cruises MoveUp

Celebrity Cruises’ MoveUp was as advertised, because in just a few clicks, I had placed bids on two possible upgrades including inputting my payment information. To be honest with you, I did it more as a trial to see how it would work rather than as a way to actually move up the property ladder aboard Celebrity Flora.

Celebrity Cruises MoveUp

I made, what the “Offer Strength” meters were telling me were “Weak” offers to move up from our 237 square foot Sky Suite w/ Infinite Verandah, the lowest-grade of cabin offered on board, to the top two categories: the 559 square foot Royal Suite including a 129 square foot veranda and the 1,253 square foot Penthouse Suite including the massive 271 square foot aft-facing full-berth veranda. The latter being the second largest cabin sailing in the Galapagos. The largest cabin is currently the massive Owner’s Suite on Silversea’s Silver Origin coming in at a whopping 1,722 square feet of interior and exterior space. I checked availability on Celebrity Flora and saw that only one of each of these cabins was available (for context, there are only two Penthouse suites on board). I placed my bids approximately 70 days prior to embarkation and thinking that my odds were incredibly low, pushed it to the back of my mind.

Celebrity Cruises MoveUp

Then 39 days out from our cruise and a day before online check-in opened, I received an email with the exciting subject: “Your Stateroom Has Been Upgraded!” I opened the email with some trepidation (remember I didn’t think there was any chance that I would actually “win”). Well, it was my “lucky” day. I scrolled down to see that “Your offer to upgrade your stateroom on your upcoming cruise has been successful.” Scrolling a bit further I saw that we were now booked in the top Penthouse suite. And the best part…my credit card would be charged in the next 24-hours for the amount of my bid. 😊 It was equal parts “this is awesome!!!” and “what have I done???”

Celebrity Cruises MoveUp

My logic, back when I was making the offers was that I would be ok paying more on top of one of the most expensive cruises we had ever taken, if we were able to get into one of the top suites for approximately half of the standard fare. Yes, it would make an already expensive cruise even more expensive, but this is a bucket-list trip to celebrate not one but two special occasions and we really wouldn’t be “upgrading” anything else on the trip as flights within Ecuador, pre and post hotel stays, transfers, beverages, gratuities, etc. were all included in the one (high) price already.

So now it’s done and paid for. I’ll of course let you know if we thought the upgrade was worth it (I sure hope it will be). Our friends are in our original cabin class so I’m hoping I can capture a few images for comparison purposes.

I’ll leave you with this – bidder beware! (you might just win) – Michael

I love Celebrity but I am not a big fan of the move up thing. I find that the minimum bid amount is really high especially since you have to double the amount for the actual charge.

In some cases it can make sense though such as if you are in an inside cabin or have an obstructed view balcony, you can often find a low minimum bid option to go to concierge class which generally isn’t directly booked into, so the odds of getting a low bid accepted are higher in that case.

I generally bid just above the minimum if I am bidding. The next click up. But you really have to look at the price to see if it makes sense.

I noticed you didn’t list the bidding amounts in your article. What was the exact amount you bided? it is helpful to share this information so others have an idea about what they are getting into. From the picture I can’t imagine anyone would actually bid $20,000 for that room which was the top of the scale (yes I know it says $10,000 but it is really $20k).

Another word of advise is to very that the all in cost you are paying including the bid is still lower than just asking your travel agent to change you to the higher category. I have seen many instances where the costs would be higher using the move up rather than just changing your cabin category.

@Johnthewanderer – We had booked the entry-level cabin as soon as the calendar opened locking in the lowest possible rate on board. When we add that fare to the MoveUp amount we came out ~10% under half price for this suite. A quick search on Celebrity’s site you should be able to back into the approximate bid amount. I did check with my travel agent (TA) and he said that Celebrity typically offers better deals on MoveUp bids than through last-minute booking discounts through TAs because the TA is NOT commissioned on the upgrade amount saving Celebrity a meaningful amount. I’m new to Celebrity Cruises so if others have different experiences or data points they’d be much appreciated.

So, how much did it cost you?

Right? This post would be MUCH more relevant with actual costs involved (the price you were paying for the original room but more importantly what the bid amount was).

so was it a lot more$$$$$

Hi dee, it was a 27% increase in the cost of our cruise, which considering the additional space (the balcony in the Penthouse Suite alone larger than the cabin and balcony combined of our original cabin) seemed like a good (enough) deal to us. Galapagos cruises are expensive to begin with because of the logistics of getting people from Quito to Baltra (Celebrity charters flights and have to provide six transfers over the course of your trip), the high crew to passenger ratio (Flora has just 1.23 passengers for every crew member), the fees paid to Ecuador to support the national park and the local community, and the capacity limitations of 100 passengers per ship.

Big Celebrity fan here, 20+ cruises. I’d be curious to hear your opinion on their main stream ships. Guessing they don’t compare to Oceania. The Expedition Class are ships are completely different from the other 3 classes and not really apples to apples. I don’t do MoveUp – I book where I want and watch for deals to upgrade on my own, but I have heard that when doing MoveUp you don’t always get all the perks or Captain’s Club points affiliated with the higher level room. Is this true?

@MamaAI77 – You are correct, you don’t get the increased Captain’s Club points for the upgraded cabin. In this case we earn 8 Club Points per night for the original Sky Suite we booked instead of the 18 Club Points per night than if we had booked directly into the Penthouse. This is a disappointing thing about the program, but I understand that they’re trying to incentivize you to book the highest level at which you’re comfortable not book at the base and then bid for upgrades. The MoveUp program is a lot like selling last-minute upgrades on the airlines to eek out that last bit of possible revenue by filling all the highest grade cabins.

@Michael – The funny thing with NCL is when bid for upgrades began no bonus night but last few years just like booking a suite or Haven!

@MamaAl77 Stay tuned on the Captains Club points for booked cabin level vs. MoveUp cabin level. The published terms and conditions say that you do NOT get the credits for the higher level cabin; however, I just logged into my Celebrity Cruises account and it’s showing that we are set to earn 180 points for the cruise which is based on the higher earning level of 18pts/nt for the 7 nights on board as well as credit for the 3 pre and post extension nights booked through Celebrity. This might work out like René says NCL handles bid for upgrade credits.

Now that we’ve explored the available upgrade options, let’s delve into how to set a budget for your upgrade bid.

Set a Budget for Your Upgrade Bid

Make sure you carefully consider your financial goals and priorities when determining how much you can comfortably allocate towards improving your cruise experience. Here are some tips for setting a budget for cruise upgrades and factors to consider when determining upgrade bid amount:

Evaluate your overall vacation budget and decide how much you’re willing to spend on an upgrade.

Research the average cost of the upgrades you’re interested in to get an idea of the price range.

Consider the value you’d receive from the upgrade and how much it’d enhance your cruise experience.

Take into account any other expenses you may have during the cruise, such as excursions or specialty dining.

Setting a budget for your upgrade bid is essential to ensure you don’t overspend and regret it later. Once you’ve determined your budget, you can move on to the next step of determining the value of the upgrade.

Determine the Value of the Upgrade

Imagine the thrill of discovering just how much more enjoyable your cruise experience could be by unlocking the hidden value of an upgrade. Determining the value of the upgrade is an essential step in bidding for a celebrity cruise upgrade.

Evaluating the cost and benefits of the upgrade will help you make an informed decision. Start by researching the amenities and features included in the upgraded cabin category. So, let’s dive in and explore the advantages of bidding and some tips for successful bidding.

Monitor the Bidding Process

After submitting your bid for a celebrity cruise upgrade, the next step is to monitor the bidding process.

This is an exciting time as you track the progress and analyze the results. Keep an eye on the bid tracker and stay updated with any notifications or emails you receive regarding the status of your bid.

It’s important to stay engaged and proactive during this time. Take note of how the bidding is going and whether there are any changes in the number of bids or the current highest bid. This information will help you determine whether you need to increase your bid if necessary.

So, let’s dive into the subsequent section and learn about how to increase your bid if necessary.

Increase Your Bid if Necessary

If you’re sailing towards the horizon of a better experience, don’t hesitate to set your sights higher and wave your flag of determination by increasing your offer.

Evaluate your budget: Before increasing your bid, make sure you have the financial capacity to support a higher offer.

Research market trends: Look for similar upgrades on other cruises to gauge the average bid price and adjust your offer accordingly.

Be strategic with timing: Consider increasing your bid closer to the end of the auction to maximize your chances of success.

Stay within your comfort zone: While it’s important to increase your bid, don’t go overboard. Set a limit that you’re comfortable with to avoid overspending.

By employing these strategies, you can increase your chances of securing the upgrade you desire.

By understanding the available communication options and activating my phone’s roaming service, I was able to stay connected throughout the entire trip.

Connecting to the ship’s Wi-Fi network and using the Carnival HUB App for messaging made communication a breeze. I also purchased a Wi-Fi package for internet access, which allowed me to stay connected with the outside world.

In addition to these methods, there were onboard communication centers and in-room phones for internal ship communication. And of course, it’s always important to familiarize yourself with emergency communication procedures.

So, if you’re planning a Carnival Cruise and want to stay connected, keep reading to learn all the tips and tricks for texting while sailing with ease!

  • Use Carnival HUB app or the ship’s Wi-Fi network for messaging on Carnival cruise.
  • Consider activating phone’s roaming service or purchasing a cruise-specific communication package for staying connected.
  • Monitor data usage and disable automatic updates to manage data usage effectively.
  • Utilize onboard communication centers for internet services, assistance, and internal ship communication.

Understand the Available Communication Options

So, you’re probably wondering, ‘How can I stay connected with my loved ones while I’m on a Carnival cruise?’ Well, let’s talk about the communication options available to you!

First, let’s discuss phone compatibility. Carnival cruise ships offer a cellular network, so if your phone is compatible with this network, you can use it to send text messages and make calls. However, keep in mind that roaming charges may apply.

If your phone is not compatible, don’t worry! Carnival also provides alternative communication methods. They have an onboard app called Carnival HUB, which allows you to send messages to other passengers for a small fee. Additionally, there are public phones available throughout the ship for you to make calls.

Now that you understand the available communication options, let’s move on to how you can activate and set up your phone’s roaming service seamlessly.

Activate and Set Up Your Phone’s Roaming Service

First things first, if you want to stay connected with the world while sailing the high seas, setting up your phone’s roaming service is an absolute must! It’s important to understand that using your phone’s roaming service on a cruise ship can incur hefty roaming charges, especially for international calling. However, with the right plan or package, you can ensure a worry-free communication experience during your Carnival cruise.

Here are four important things to keep in mind when activating and setting up your phone’s roaming service:

  • Check with your mobile provider for international roaming options and packages.
  • Consider purchasing a cruise-specific communication package offered by Carnival.
  • Keep an eye on your data usage to avoid unexpected charges.
  • Disable automatic updates and background data to save on data usage.

Now that you’re ready to stay connected through roaming, let’s explore how to connect to the ship’s Wi-Fi network.

Connect to the Ship’s Wi-Fi Network

To stay connected while sailing, you’ll need to connect to the ship’s Wi-Fi network, which can be easily done by following a few simple steps.

Staying connected while at sea is essential, and the ship’s Wi-Fi network allows you to do just that. To connect, ensure that your device’s Wi-Fi is turned on and select the ship’s network from the available options.

If you encounter any issues, the ship’s crew is always ready to assist you with Wi-Fi network troubleshooting.

Once connected, you can enjoy seamless internet access throughout your cruise, whether it’s to share your amazing experiences on social media or stay connected with loved ones back home.

Now that you’re connected to the ship’s Wi-Fi network, let’s explore how you can use the Carnival Hub app for messaging.

Use the Carnival HUB App for Messaging

Stay connected with your loved ones back home by using the Carnival HUB app for messaging, bringing you closer to them even while you’re out at sea. The Carnival HUB app offers a convenient and user-friendly way to communicate with friends and family onboard.

Here are some benefits of using the Carnival HUB app for messaging:

  • Alternative messaging apps can be unreliable or require internet access, but the Carnival HUB app uses the ship’s Wi-Fi network, ensuring a seamless and reliable messaging experience.
  • You can send unlimited messages to other passengers who’ve also downloaded the app, making it easy to coordinate meetups or plan activities together.
  • The app allows you to personalize your messages with emojis and stickers, adding a fun and playful touch to your conversations.

By using the Carnival HUB app, you can stay connected with your loved ones without worrying about expensive international roaming charges. Once you’re familiar with messaging on the app, you can also consider purchasing a Wi-Fi package for internet access to enjoy even more online activities during your cruise.

Purchase a Wi-Fi Package for Internet Access

Additionally, did you know that a recent study found that 80% of passengers who purchase a Wi-Fi package onboard are able to stream their favorite shows and movies while sailing the open seas?

Having a Wi-Fi package on a Carnival cruise offers numerous benefits. Not only can you stay connected with your loved ones back home, but you can also access the internet for various purposes.

Whether you want to post stunning pictures of your cruise adventures on social media or simply stay updated with the latest news, having Wi-Fi access is essential. Carnival offers different pricing options for their Wi-Fi packages, allowing you to choose the one that best suits your needs and budget.

With a Wi-Fi package in hand, you can now use social media and messaging apps to share your incredible experiences with friends and family, making your cruise even more enjoyable.

Use Social Media and Messaging Apps with Wi-Fi

Immerse yourself in the digital world while sailing the open seas on a Carnival cruise by effortlessly connecting with friends and family through social media and messaging apps using the onboard Wi-Fi.

Stay connected with loved ones, even if they’re on land, by using popular social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Share your adventures and stay updated with what’s happening back home. With the convenience of onboard Wi-Fi, you can easily post photos, videos, and updates in real-time.

Additionally, you can use messaging apps like WhatsApp or iMessage to stay in touch with friends and family without the need for Wi-Fi. It’s as simple as connecting to the ship’s Wi-Fi network and accessing these apps on your device.

Now, let’s explore how to make use of onboard communication centers to enhance your Carnival cruise experience.

Make Use of Onboard Communication Centers

Utilize the onboard communication centers on your Carnival cruise to effortlessly connect with friends and family while sailing the open seas. These communication centers are conveniently located throughout the ship and offer a range of services to keep you connected during your cruise.

Stay connected: Onboard communication centers provide access to internet services, allowing you to check your email, browse the web, and stay connected with loved ones through social media and messaging apps.

Plan your activities: These centers also provide information about the ship’s daily schedule, including entertainment options, dining reservations, and excursion bookings.

Get assistance: If you have any questions or need assistance, the friendly staff at the communication centers are there to help.

By utilizing the onboard communication centers, you can easily stay connected on your Carnival cruise and make the most of your vacation.

In the next section, we’ll explore how to use in-room phones for internal ship communication.

Use In-Room Phones for Internal Ship Communication

Make the most of your shipboard stay by taking advantage of the in-room phones for convenient internal communication. Carnival cruise ships are equipped with in-room phones that offer a range of features to enhance your onboard experience.

These phones allow you to easily connect with other guests or contact various departments within the ship. Need to make dinner reservations at one of the specialty restaurants? Simply pick up the phone and dial the restaurant’s extension. Want to inquire about the schedule of onboard activities? Just give the activities desk a call.

The benefits of using these in-room phones are endless – they save you time and effort by providing a quick and efficient way to communicate. So, make sure to familiarize yourself with emergency communication procedures, which we will discuss next, to ensure a safe and enjoyable cruise experience.

Familiarize Yourself with Emergency Communication Procedures

Now that you know how to use the in-room phones for internal ship communication, it’s important to familiarize yourself with the emergency communication procedures on board. Carnival Cruise places the utmost importance on the safety of its passengers, and being aware of the emergency communication protocols is crucial. Here are some key points to keep in mind:

Emergency drills: Participate in the mandatory safety training sessions and emergency drills. These will help you understand the procedures in case of an emergency.

Safety information: Take note of the safety information provided in your stateroom and familiarize yourself with the location of emergency exits and life vests.

Emergency contacts: Save the emergency contact numbers in your phone or write them down for easy access.

Public address system: Pay attention to announcements made through the ship’s public address system during emergencies.

Crew assistance: Trust the experienced crew members who are trained to handle emergencies and follow their instructions.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure your safety and the safety of those around you.

I got upgraded & saved $2,000 on my celebrity cruise, cruising with celebrity cruises is not cheap..

celebrity cruise room upgrade

Known for their luxury cruising, this subsidiary of Royal Caribbean Group, which of course also operates Royal Caribbean International, will set you back several more dollars than some of the other cruise lines. However, if you know how to do it, you can get a very good deal on some of the best rooms on their ships. I just saved almost $2,000 on my upcoming cruise on Celebrity’s brand new ship, Celebrity Beyond, and now I’m going to tell you exactly how to do the same.

I typically cruise solo. The majority of my cruises have been solo, and all of the future cruises I have booked are also solo. I mention this because Celebrity does offer some solo cabins on their E-class, or Edge-class, ships. These rooms, known as the Edge Single Stateroom with Infinite Veranda, feature a queen bed and desk, 184 square feet of living space, and a 42 square foot Veranda. I typically book them because, as a solo cruiser, they are the cheapest rooms I can book on an Edge-class ship, always cheaper than even interior staterooms!

celebrity cruise room upgrade

However, despite booking this room a few times, I have yet to stay in one.

Celebrity, like several of the other cruise lines, offers a bidding program for upgrades on their ships. Called MoveUp, the offer to bid for an upgrade will typically be delivered to your inbox roughly a month before sailing. You will be presented with several options of staterooms that are all higher categories than the stateroom in which you are currently booked.

celebrity cruise room upgrade

In my case, I was presented with the option of bidding on a Concierge Class stateroom with a minimum bid of $100 per person (you have to pay for double occupancy, even for solo travelers – so double the bid amount), an Aqua Class stateroom with a minimum bid of $200 per person, a Sky Suite for a minimum of $800 per person, and options up to an Edge Villa for well over $5,000 per person. These are all minimum bids, so of course, you want to up your bid a bit from the minimum to increase your odds of “winning” an upgrade. You do have to provide a credit card at the time you place your bid, as you will be charged immediately once your bid is accepted. You have no right of refusal once your bid is accepted – you will be on the hook for the total amount.

Ultimately I bid $125 ($250 total) for the Concierge Class and $225 ($450 total) for the Aqua Class stateroom. You can revisit the MoveUp page and modify, cancel, or add to your bids as much as you’d like before the bid is accepted. About 10 days before my sailing I checked and the Concierge bid had been marked as “expired”, while the Aqua bid was still “pending”, and I had no option to modify or cancel anything. From previous experiences with MoveUp, I knew that this meant it was only a matter of time before I’d receive the official email stating my stateroom had been upgraded.

Exactly one week from my sail date I received the email confirming my bid was accepted! I had been upgraded from my Deck 6 solo veranda to an Aqua Class veranda on Deck 10. I wouldn’t say I liked the initial Aqua Class room assignment that Celebrity gave me, so I gave them a call and they were happy to change my stateroom, so long as it was in the same category.

celebrity cruise room upgrade

Once I had been officially upgraded I checked the current prices of the two categories, and realized there was about a $2,000 difference in the price of the two rooms! Taking off the $450 I paid for the upgrade, my MoveUp experience saved me about $1500 !

The bottom line is this…

Using MoveUp, or RoyalUp if you’re sailing on Royal Caribbean, can save you thousands of dollars and get you into a much nicer room than the one you initially booked. While it’s not always guaranteed to happen, since the ship could sell out leaving no rooms to be bid on, you could technically book the cheapest room available on the ship with your original booking, and use MoveUp to get into the room you want closer to sailing date.

The Discussion

Thanks I’ve been learning a lot from your content areas. Ready to try this out 🙂

Thank you, Rosanne! I am so happy you have found the content useful. I hope you get a great upgrade, too! 🙂

I just got moved up from interior room to aquaclass. On this particular sailing the aquaclass comes with the basice wifi and basic drink package. Do you know if those extra perks will still be included or do we still have to buy those separately? Thank you for your help

Hi Christina, unfortunately the answer is no. You will keep any packages you had (or didn’t have) on your original stateroom. With MoveUp you just get a room upgrade and you’ll have to add the WiFi and drink package separately.

Hi Zach, Would you advise does it include dining in Blu I win the bid for the Aqua stateroom? Thanks in advance.

Yes, it does! I just returned from Celebrity Solstice where I was upgraded to Aqua for only $200 total and enjoyed Blu several nights of the voyage.

Hello ! I have read conflicting info on this exact question. Do you have any advice on how to find out the actual answer???

Check out the FAQs on this page, particularly the one about promotions:

Thank you for the information! Love it! Have you bid many times before? Do you know how easy is it to change the room if they give you an upgrade but it’s to the very front or back of the ship or above a bar or something? Can you request a section of the ship? Also, if 2 people in the room, do you each have to bid? Just curious ! Thank you!

I have bid and been successful a few times in the past. It is quite easy to change the room so long as you’re within the same stateroom category. Just call up Celebrity and let them know you’d like to pick a new room. Each person in the room is included in the bid for the room and if you’re solo you have to bid for 2 people. Whatever price you select as your bid is multiplied by the number of people in the room and that is your final upgrade price.

Thank you! One other question is if we get a Retreat level room on move up, will we have access to the Retreat pool area?

You sure will! You will not receive any perks like drink packages and internet. But you will still have exclusive access to Luminae, Retreat, etc.

Great information 👍

I have already booked and paid in full. If I bid let’s say a sky suite for $2000 and got accepted, is the $2000 on top of what I have already paid or do I get refunded for my initial payment and then get charged with the bid amount?

No, this bid amount is on top of whatever you have already paid. You will receive no refund.

Hi! So an upgrade from lower class going to a Sky Suite Class, what are the benefits of getting this upgrade? It looks like the perks (wifi, onboard credits, drink package) are not included. What about the access to premium dining exclusive to that class, a personal butler, welcoming champagne, access to private Sky Suite area of ship (if available), premium embark/disembarking, etc.

This can be deceiving as you could end up paying quite a bit more for just a room upgrade not understanding a handful of these things aren’t included!!! Are you literally just paying for the room at this point?

So in this instance, you would keep any perks associated with your original reservation. So if you did not have a drinks package, you still would not have one despite being in a suite. However, you will still receive all of the access, butler, service, and priority that come exclusively to Suite Guests.

Just need clarification in Moveup: if I already have infinite veranda room and am bidding for sky suite, I am only getting the room/retreat bonus? Not the premium Drinks or WiFi?

You are correct. You are only getting the room and access to Luminae and the Retreat. You will not receive premium drinks, WiFi, or the OBC associated with a Retreat booking.

Our cruise leaves in 7 days. We have an Ocean View room. We bid on a veranda and an Aqua Class. As of today the Veranda bid says pending and we can no longer modify or cancel this bid. The Aqua class bid can still be modified or cancelled. Do you think we at least have the veranda and possibly the Aquaclass since bids can still be modified?

In my past experience once it can no longer be modified but still says Pending, that likely means your bid has been accepted and you will soon see the charge to your card and receive the email confirmation. Usually the remaining bids will be marked Expired when this happens, though, so I am not sure what to think about your Aqua bid.

I received an email for a chance to bid on an upgrade. I made a bid on a Royal Suite. If they accept the amount, will that total be added to amount I already paid for our cruise ?

Hi Rhonda. Yes, the amount you have bid will be an additional charge on top of what you have already paid for your current stateroom.

Hi. If I bid and am successfull in upgrading from a veranda to an aqua class room, do I get the unlimited persian room access and the blu restaurant?

Yes, you do! The best perks of having Aqua Class, in my opinion!

I would appreciate some information about the Celebrity MoveUp Offer. I assume that MoveUp offers will only be available if some suites have not been booked.

  • How far ahead before each actual cruise will Celebrity start the MoveUp bidding?
  • Will the MoveUp Offer announcement be sent to all passengers by email?

1)It used to be four weeks but is now 21 days-ish.

2) As long as you have enabled emails from Celebrity and have an eligible booking, you should get an email around the 21 day mark.

FYI if you are booked with a TA not all TA's participate in Move Up.

Should we interpret this as, "they aren't going the extra mile to notify you"? MoveUp is probably non-commissionable so the big-box VTGs of the world aren't probably going to be super helpful.

Thanks to the link provided by bajathree, I can always check on it myself even if my TA does not notify me although he has been very good with us with all our past travel.

Unless things have changed, move-up offers come directly from Celebrity. We received one and had our bid accepted last year (pre-covid). But we dealt directly with Celebrity for all communications and payment. Our TA was not involved at all.

Another question, please.

If you do book through a TA, has any TA tried to match a move up offer for you?

Thanks in advance.

Great Review

Just to clarify...

If we Move Up to a suite (currently SV), we do NOT get the extra perks, correct.

(OBC, premium drinks, streaming wifi).

Honestly if we were, then bidding is a no brainer...

I received that email and I'm tempted to bid, may I ask, was your bid on the low or high side? That little meter on the side seems to suggest that low bids on the scale won't be accepted. I'm a little intimidated, also can you bid on several different categories? Thanks!

There is a sticky on bidding you may find interesting.

It really depends on what you are bidding for and the availability of cabins. I have won on bids at the minimum as well as being turned down on a bid at the highest end.

The often also have bids open for class of cabins that are already booked in case of cancellation. If you win your credit card is immediately billed which may be your first indication you won a bid if you have credit alerts set up.

Correct for a SS or CS. For RS and above the room amenities include Prem Bev Package, Stream Wifi, Laundry, Specialty Dining, etc. You do get amenities as they come with the room. You don't get booking perks or extra CC points.

There is a very large warehouse store TA which doesn't participate. If you have booked with them you won't get offers and won't be able to participate.

Most TA's do allow participation.

With restricted capacity seems that move up offers would be very few.

All but one or two TAs participated in the old program.

I don’t really remember what we offered; and as Jim has said, you can be successful at either end depending on your sailing and category availability.

But I do remember you could bid on more than 1 category.

It's always worth looking at what the actual difference in price is before making a MoveUp bid. If you are interested in an upgrade, you can do so directly with Celebrity (or your TA, if you have one). That's a sure thing, you get all additional perks, you get to select your cabin, and you may find the pricing at (or even below) the minimum MoveUp bid.

1 hour ago, Arizona Wildcat said: With restricted capacity seems that move up offers would be very few.

They are not restricting capacity by prorating all classes. In fact, they are doing their best to fill up the higher, more lucrative classes.

I've tried using https://www.celebritycruises.com/bid-on-cruise-room-upgrade to check if our August cruise is eligible for upgrades, but after entering last name and reservation number, all I see is a dialog box stating, "Please wait, we are checking for availability" with a spinning circle of dots that never stops. Nothing else ever loads or appears. Is anyone else having this problem?

I realize the Celebrity website is quite bad, but this at least worked in the past! I've tried both Windows and Mac, on Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. No luck at all.

Looks like it is 3 weeks in advance. Thanks for the information.

phoenix_dream

The OP asked about suites, but of course MoveUp Offers can be for any category of rooms. It seems to me, in reading posts on these boards and on FB, that people tend to be successful in moving from one type of cabin to a higher level (such as balcony to AQ) or to move from one category of suite to a higher level category. We usually book AQ and have bid many times on move ups to suites with no luck. Not saying it never happens, but a move up from AQ or CC to a suite seems more rare - for those who have been successful doing that I would love to hear about it to have some hope!

BTW, I know we can't name names here, but I also often book through a very large (the largest?) online TA and still get MoveUp emails from Celebrity - sometimes. Sometimes I have to go online and find them, but they apparently are allowed for that TA at least.

I just received an email from Celebrity regarding their MoveUp program. I am considering making an offer on an Aqua Class Sky Suite. I have a few questions.

1. The Aqua Class Sky Suite certainly seems to be a nice upgrade from the regular Aqua Class stateroom. Opinions?

2. I want to ensure that we are booked on the side of the ship facing the shoreline as we cruise south from Seward . That would be an odd numbered room. Can you specifically request a room on that side of the ship when you bid on MoveUp?

3. The minimum bid on an upgrade for that class of room is $500/pp. For people who have done this successfully, what would be a good, but also low minimum bid which would stand at least a chance of being accepted?

4. Finally, what is the lowest MoveUp bid, per person, that anyone has made which has actually been accepted for a Sky Suite?

You can also do a Search of that forum for the term "MoveUp", top right side of that main page.

If you don't find the answer(s) you're looking for, you can post a separate question (not on that thread, though, start your own thread).

You cannot ask for a specific room in most cases.

We have bit on upgraded rooms -and been successful.

5 reasons to turn down a cruise ship cabin upgrade

Erica Silverstein

Turn down a cruise cabin upgrade? You might think it sounds ridiculous — and you're right. If a cruise offers me a free suite, I'm certainly not going to say no.

The sad truth is free upgrades are rare. The days of surprise upgrades from your cozy inside cabin to a spacious balcony room are mostly over.

Nowadays, cruise lines expect you to pay for your cruise ship cabin upgrades. Free upgrades , when offered, are hardly ever as good as they sound and are typically from one room to another within the same cabin category.

If you're going to pay good money for an upgrade, be positive your new digs are much better than the original room you picked. If they're not, tell the cruise line they do not have a deal. Here are five reasons to turn down a cruise ship cabin upgrade.

For more cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's free cruise newsletter .

You can't pick your cabin location

celebrity cruise room upgrade

An upgrade is essentially the same as booking a guarantee cabin — a type of room where your cabin category is guaranteed, but your specific room location is not. You agree to let the cruise line pick your cabin in exchange for giving you a discount on that room. You give up the right to control where on the ship your cabin is located.

If you're prone to seasickness and prefer a midship cabin on a lower deck, you might not want an upgrade that could land you at the very front or back of the ship where it's rockier.

If you're sensitive to noise and specifically chose a room far away from the elevators and the noisy Lido Deck, you will want to say no to a cabin upgrade that can't guarantee a quiet locale.

Travel groups that purposefully booked rooms near each other should not accept upgrades that would split them among different decks.

RELATED: 8 cabin locations you should definitely avoid

When that cruise ship cabin upgrade offer arrives, think about how strongly you feel about where your cabin is located. If location is important, you will want to turn down the upgrade offer.

It's too expensive

celebrity cruise room upgrade

Not all cruise cabin upgrades are free. Typically, the cruise line will offer the upgrade at a discount, meaning you'll pay less for the upgraded room than it would cost to book it outright, but more than what you paid for your original cabin.

No matter how good a deal that seems, if money is tight, don't take the upgrade. Save your vacation budget for tours and shoreside fun or onboard treats like date-night restaurants and fun cocktails.

After all, you'll get a bed and bathroom no matter which cabin you choose, but you won't have as much fun if you have no budget left to spend once you're on board.

You booked a specific cabin type

celebrity cruise room upgrade

Some travelers need specific cabins. Cruisers who use a wheelchair or have mobility difficulties purposefully book accessible cabins with roll-in showers and wider doorways. Families book connecting cabins or designated family-friendly rooms with an extra bathroom or that can sleep five or six. Wellness enthusiasts book spa cabins for their Zen-like decor and thermal suite perks.

If you have booked a specific type of cabin for a reason, do not accept an upgrade offer. Usually, the cruise line cannot guarantee they will upgrade you from one accessible or spa cabin to a nicer one. In addition, upgrade offers apply to a single cabin, not a pair of connecting rooms.

You might not get all the perks

celebrity cruise room upgrade

Complimentary perks are a popular booking incentive used by several cruise lines. Depending on the type of cabin you book, you're rewarded with onboard credit or your choice of several freebies, such as an included drink package or shore excursion credit.

When you accept an upgrade offer, you won't receive the booking perks associated with the higher-category room (though you will receive any room-based perks, like concierge access or priority debarkation). Worse, you could actually lose the perks you already have.

RELATED: The 5 most desirable cabin locations on any cruise ship

How? If you booked a cruise and then notice that prices have fallen, you can give yourself an upgrade by rebooking a nicer cabin at a lower price. In doing so, you will often lose your previous booking perks and be eligible only for the current promotion.

For example, if you booked a promotion offering free Wi-Fi and a $100 onboard credit, but the current offer focuses on low prices and a $50 onboard credit, you might lose the internet package and half the onboard credit when you rebook to upgrade your cabin.

Decide whether the trade-off between a nicer cabin and your existing booking perks is worth it. If not, don't go for the cabin upgrade.

The upgrade isn't good enough

celebrity cruise room upgrade

You should only say yes to a cruise cabin upgrade if it will get you a nicer cabin. However, what a cruise line deems a better cabin might not actually be worth more money in your eyes.

For example, cruise lines break down all the cabins within the same category (for example, all outside cabins) into subcategories, based on location, layout, size and perks. A midship inside cabin on an upper deck might be deemed more desirable and priced higher than an inside cabin on a lower deck at the back of the ship.

A cruise line might offer you a same-category upgrade, moving from one balcony cabin to a "better" balcony cabin, rather than to a mini-suite. If you don't care about cabin location, don't take the cabin upgrade. You'll end up paying more for a room that's essentially the same as the one you booked for less.

If the upgrade is free, or if the new cabin comes with extras you will use (such as concierge access or spa perks), consider saying yes. However, if the cost of the upgrade is not worth whatever benefits the new room has, politely decline the cruise cabin upgrade.

Bottom line

In many cases, a cruise ship cabin upgrade will get you a better cabin — roomier accommodations, a better ship location, and maybe extra perks. However, not all upgrade offers are desirable, especially if what you value in a cabin type and location is not what the cruise line will give you. Don't hesitate to say no to an upgrade if the offer does not represent good value for your money.

30 Genius Hacks To Upgrade Your Cruise

Planning on sailing the high seas? Whether you’re blowing the budget on a luxury cruise or opting for something a little more wallet-friendly, we’ve got the best ways to upgrade your ocean adventure without breaking the bank.

Crank up the comfort by adding your own cabin upgrades, whether it’s your favorite pillowcase or a photo of loved ones. Make your cabin soothing for the senses: lighting a scented candle is probably a no-no, but consider investing in a sweet-smelling room spray before setting sail or purchase one onboard. A growing number of cruise lines (including MSC Cruise Lines and Seabourn) now have signature scents, often sold in the form of room sprays and pillow mists.

Speciality dining doesn’t have to break the bank as the extra fees are often minimal. Royal Caribbean, Silversea and Norwegian all have brilliant speciality restaurants for guests willing to fork out a little more, but it's not just the luxury lines that offer a wide range of eateries. On Virgin Voyages you'll have dozens of restaurants to choose from, all included in the basic fare, from the Pink Agave Mexican restaurant to Gunbae, where diners can cook their own steaks at a grill built into every table, and Extra Virgin, a beautiful trattoria with a private dining room.

Many modern cruise ships make the Titanic look tiny, and there's often more decks than you know to explore. Sure, deck number nine might be a great spot from which to soak up evening views and deck seven might boast the most sun loungers, but to avoid the crowds the lower decks should certainly be on your radar. They’re usually darker with less lighting, which means they’re great for stargazing sessions, and in rougher seas you’ll feel significantly less motion on decks closer to the waterline.

Cruises are perfect for a digital detox, but at some point you'll probably want to send photos to loved ones or check in on the news. If you’re planning to purchase an internet package, we’d advise against buying deals that detail a certain number of megabytes or hours. Ship-based connectivity is improving but it can still be sketchy at sea, and nothing’s worse than watching your allowance drain away while you wait for an email to send. Packages allowing unlimited use for the day or the whole cruise tend to offer the best value for money – typically costing around $12 a day. And if you do opt for a timed package, remember you may have to log off in order to stop the clock. The other option is to buy a data package that allows you to use your phone while in port for a much lower cost than using ship Wi-Fi.

Many cabins don't offer the largest or best of showers, but there's a simple solution – take a shower in the spa where you will often find much nicer and larger showering options. Sometimes there's also much better shampoo and conditioner than you'll find in your cabin.
