Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Cruises is an award-winning cruise line marked by the iconic ‘X’. It was founded in 1989 with the objective of providing a high-quality, premium cruise experience at an intelligent price for the discerning cruiser.

In 1997, Celebrity Cruises merged with Royal Caribbean International , bringing together two extraordinary cruise brands within one corporation, Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd (RCL).

Celebrity Cruises has created a distinctive expression of superior quality - offering grand style, attentive service, enriching and inspiring onboard programmes, spacious accommodations, and exceptional dining.  They define the whole experience as ‘modern luxury’.

It has an impressive fleet of premium cruise ships which travel to many exciting destinations including Alaska, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, the Caribbean, Europe, the Galapagos, Hawaii, Pacific Coastal, Panama Canal and South America.

They pride themselves on offering an exceptional personalised service and have a strong team on board to anticipate guests’ needs and take note of the little details, whether it’s greeting them by name or having chilled towels ready for those returning from a busy shore excursion.

Working for Celebrity Cruises means visiting more than 70 countries in seven continents, interacting with a crew of more than 100 different nationalities, getting competitive pay and extensive holiday time, and having rapid promotion opportunities for ‘star’ performers.

Life on a ship as a member of the Celebrity team is fast-paced and challenging. It is also very rewarding personally and professionally. Crew members get to visit some of the most beautiful places in the world while making friends with co-workers and guests of different nationalities.

Jobs at Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Cruises are looking for people to join their team who have a passion to serve and the ability to exceed expectations. Job opportunities on board can be found in the food and beverage, shore excursions, marine, guest services, housekeeping, facilities, entertainment and cruise activities departments.

The company looks for high standards of performance, quality and dedication in prospective employees.

If you have the necessary talent, temperament, and stamina and comport yourself professionally, you can go far.

Versatility is Key: What It's Like Dancing on a Cruise Ship

  • Professional Tips

Now that cruise lines are returning to “full steam ahead” perhaps it is time to reconsider a dance job at sea. Opportunity awaits those with the talent it takes to land a job at sea. But is it safe in light of the pandemic that seems to be lingering on?

If you intend to pursue this dream, you will want to research the specific Covid-19 protocols of the companies you will audition for and give the matter careful consideration before you sign your contract. Be advised, the guidelines may mean limited offshore time and learning a whole new set of dance tracks in case fellow cast members come down with the virus. But the truth is, performing in any field of entertainment at this time involves a new normal of precautions and practices. The impressive Celebrity X Cruises Health & Safety protocols exemplify what all of the major cruise lines have in place now. These guidelines appear to be as stringent as humanly possible. It just may be safer than venturing into your local supermarket! This is only one of the many items to research before you embark on this career path.

If you are curious about what a dancer’s life at sea is like, you have come to the right place.

When it comes to dancing on a cruise ship, you have to be multi-talented. You will likely perform in a wide variety of genres: ballroom, Latin dance, theater dance, hip-hop, ballet (perhaps en pointe), tap, contemporary – you name it. While the more versatile you are the better, Mary Roberts, Production Show Supervisor for Norwegian Cruise Line, emphasizes jazz dance as the primary technique in which you need to be well trained because counts and reproducing choreography exactly as taught are crucial in rehearsals and performances alike (not to mention that it will help you audition successfully in the first place ).

Cruise line dance experience will serve you well in finding future performance work.

Besides the featured production shows, presented in huge venues, ranging from edgy Rock ‘n Roll shows to Broadway Musicals, there are many other types of cruise ship entertainment you may be involved in. Themed shows are smaller scale performances centered around a specific theme - such as the 60’s. These typically take place in themed party or event settings and may be followed by interactions with guests. Another type of performance, “Bumpers”, as they are called on Norwegian Cruise Line, are shorter, pop-up entertainment numbers (5 to 8 minutes long) that can be performed in different areas of the ship, such as poolside. On Royal Caribbean International, you will perform in parades. If this sounds surprising, remember you are essentially working in a floating city. Every cruise line has its own vision and types of performances, so it is difficult to generalize except to say: “Expect the unexpected!” You may find yourself in some extraordinary situations.

You might be asked to learn and perform aerial skills even if you have no prior experience in that realm. You might be asked to sing although your audition didn’t include singing, or perhaps to lip sync as a back-up singer or chorus member in a Broadway style show. Darren Pitre, a former dancer with Celebrity Cruises (2016 – 2017), advises: “If you are afraid of heights….you better overcome it. If your singing abilities aren’t up to par, go take lessons ”. It may not apply to all cruise lines, but with Celebrity Cruises, dancers need to be prepared for the possibility of aerial work – on their audition form you will be asked if you are willing to be trained to do aerial work as much as 30 feet off the ground. If you always wanted to learn aerial dance, this could be your opportunity!

As you would expect, you will perform the same material over and over with the same cast members. For all the dancers I spoke with this is perceived as a plus. Darren emphasized the benefits of dancing with the same cast members for months on end. “We got to have very strong, easy-going shows as we became a family on stage. Show after show it would only get better.” Dancer Bryant Henderson agrees. “Once you’re a couple of weeks into the contract and everyone has found their groove, you are able to become less concerned about remembering all of the choreography and relish the time sharing the stage with friends and entertaining the guests.”

DancePlug Auditions

Another aspect of working on a cruise ship that might surprise you, is that while rehearsals on land will be arduous and the installation of the productions on the ship will be intense, once this process is complete you may have a lot more time off than you expected. I asked Kristen Moranetz, Celebrity Cruises dancer, about the workload dancers should be prepared for. “This depends on the length of the cruise. If a cruise length is 7 days, we will do 3 or 4 production shows and then 3 theme shows and have one full day off. However, my last ship had 15-day cruises, so during those 15 days, we would perform 3 or 4 production shows, and do the 3 theme shows, leaving at least 7 full days off during that cruise.” Kristen describes this as “a blessing and a curse because it is easy to get lazy and we have to work extra hard to keep our fitness level up and keep improving as dancers.”

On the other hand, on a shorter cruise you will be performing daily. Mary comments that “longer cruises will give you a better quality of life.” After your first contract you may be able to request a specific vessel to travel to the places you desire with the length of cruises you prefer. But for your first contract, you will not have a choice.

Speaking of contracts…they will typically vary in length from 6 to 8 months and generally during that time period you are not going to get a break to go home… but there are exceptions. For example, on Royal Caribbean International, Maria Tucker, Rehearsal Choreographer/Director, shared that sometimes performers are granted “compassionate leave” for circumstances such as a sickness or death in the immediate family and sometimes even get time off for “short-term gigs that have been pre-approved.” But, “normally dancers may only leave a contract due to illness or injury.” She added that “in some instances, a performer can be pulled off a contract if the company chooses to place them on another ship”.  If you are hired as a replacement dancer , you will have a shorter contract than usual and would join the cast mid-contract. Due to maritime law, the maximum length of time you can work onboard ships without breaks is 10 months.

Right about now you may be wondering – how much will I be paid for dancing on a cruise ship? You can anticipate $500 to $800 per week on your first contract (but this varies from line to line). With subsequent contracts you can negotiate for higher pay. The good news is there are perks. You are not paying rent, not paying for food (unless you choose to eat in special restaurants rather than the crew mess), you have access to the gym, medical care is provided - you get the idea. If you play your cards right, you will be able to save money (which may be helpful for any break between this contract and your next job.) Oh and let us not forget, you are getting to travel the world for free!

Besides dancing in the various types of performances aboard your vessel, as a dancer working on a cruise ship, additional jobs such as Dance Captain or Wardrobe Captain could mean private quarters and additional pay. These roles can be a route to a more comfortable life onboard ship, but may or may not be an option for you. Mary explained that “After several contracts and an interview process, one dancer will be deemed dance captain.”

Kristen and Darren both taught dance lessons on their respective vessels. Kristen acts as Wardrobe Keeper (sometimes referred to as Wardrobe Captain). On other cruise lines, such as Norwegian Cruise Line, Wardrobe Keeper is a dedicated position i.e. not available to dancers. On Royal Caribbean International, Maria shared that dancers crew the ice shows and the skaters crew the dance shows. While additional jobs and duties for the entertainment crew represent another area that varies from one line to another, on all ocean liners there will be various safety duties . On some cruise liners, there are additional random duties you may be asked to perform, but don’t worry, you won’t be swabbing the decks.

DancePlug Classes

One of the downsides of life on a cruise ship is that your personal freedom of expression off stage will be restricted. For example, restrictions on what you can wear when you are not on stage may be imposed by the Cruise Director such as (true story) mid-cruise you may be told you cannot wear open-toed shoes or something else that may seem silly to you. Besides that, you will have less freedom than usual with your appearance in general. More diversity of body types is embraced by cruise lines now than in the past, but nonetheless you are hired for your look, whatever that is. Mary emphasized that once you are hired, you will be agreeing not to change your look or to gain or lose weight, dye your hair, and so forth. Some dancers find giving up their freedom in this manner frustrating, but you are filling a need for specific roles in specific productions – so be prepared to surrender the ability to alter your appearance during your contract just as you would for a Broadway Show or most commercial dance jobs.

How you perform throughout your contract may determine whether you are offered another automatically, but for some cruise lines, you will have to re-audition for your next contract. In any case, according to Kristen, there are “amazing performers who aren’t offered a contract because of behavioral issues” so it isn’t just about being a great dancer. If you have the necessary talent, temperament, and stamina and comport yourself professionally, you can go far. And once you are ready to move on, cruise line dance experience will serve you well in finding future performance work. There are also non-entertainment staff opportunities available - for example both Mary and Maria transitioned into jobs on the creative staff in the studio after working as dancers.

While a life at sea isn’t for everyone and the pros and cons of working on a cruise ship are all worth considering, you will be hard-pressed to find a dance job that will give you the breadth of performance experience you will gain from dancing on a cruise ship.

Working on a Cruise Ship: A day in the life of a dancer courtesy of Kristen Moranetz

This is what a typical show day on Celebrity Cruises looks like (keep in mind, different Covid safety protocols may affect this schedule, based on your cruise line):

8:45 a.m. Run to the crew mess just before it closes at 9:00 for a quick bite of breakfast.

9:00 a.m. Go to the gym for a bit of a workout before our tech call time.

10:00 a.m. Call time. We are required to do a tech run every show day, so we will warm up as a cast, do mic check, our stage manager will check the moving stage parts, and the dancers and aerialists will do aerial checks to ensure everything is working properly and safely.

10:45 a.m. Get notes from our captains - dance, vocal, and aerial - if we need a reblock we will do this now.

11:30 a.m. Tech run!

12:30 p.m. We eat a light lunch and then head our own way until our call time at 6:00 p.m.

Afternoon : I usually get a coffee and watch one of the ship’s venue musicians who play throughout the day. If it is a nice day, I also like to walk along an open deck and enjoy the views and get some fresh air. The theater is used in the afternoons for lectures and matinee shows, so if something interesting is on, I might go watch that.

5:00 p.m. Time to get ready! I do my hair and makeup either backstage or in my cabin. Then, right before call, I usually just grab a light bite of something so I have enough energy to last for the performances.

6:00 p.m. Call time. Once I am backstage, I preset my costumes and double check everything is set correctly. The last 30 minutes or so I use to warm up.

7:00 and 9:00 p.m. Shows! All our shows are about one hour long so we have an hour break in between to rest and preset.

10:00 p.m. Wrap up. After the second show, everyone puts away their costumes and they are done! My day continues however since I am the Wardrobe Keeper so I am in charge of washing the costumes. Luckily, the laundry room is next to our staff bar where the cast usually gathers after shows for food, drinks, and mingling with our friends from other departments.

12:00 a.m. Once I finish up, I head straight to bed so I am ready for whatever adventures await the next day!

A special thanks to the generous sources for this article: Christy McNeil Chand, Bryant Henderson, Kristen Moranetz, Darren Pitre, Mary Roberts & Maria Tucker.

Benefits of Working on a Cruise Ship

Working aboard a cruise ship like Celebrity Cruises offers a range of benefits that are hard to find in traditional land-based jobs. One of the most enticing aspects is traveling the world while earning a paycheck. I’ve found that this unique opportunity allows individuals to visit exotic destinations that many only dream of—places like the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and even the remote corners of Alaska.

Another significant advantage is the inclusive living environment on board. This setup is perfect for saving or sending money back home.

Cruise ship jobs also come with comprehensive health coverage , which is a huge relief in times of illness or medical emergencies. This coverage extends across international waters, ensuring that you have access to medical care no matter where the ship may be.

Not to mention the diverse cultural experience . Working with crew members from all over the globe, I’ve enhanced my interpersonal skills and broadened my cultural understanding.

The environment on Celebrity Cruises motivates continuous improvement, encouraging staff to outdo their best with every voyage.

Administrative Roles on Celebrity Cruises

While the glitz and glam of entertainment and guest services might be what springs to mind when thinking of cruise ship careers, administrative roles are the backbone that keeps the operation afloat. Onboard Celebrity Cruises, there’s a wide array of positions designed for professionals with a penchant for organization, efficiency, and leadership.

Roles like purser, human resources manager, and logistics coordinator are just the tip of the iceberg. Each position plays a critical role in managing the day-to-day affairs of the vessel. For example, pursers handle passenger accounts, ensuring all financial transactions on the ship run smoothly. Likewise, human resources managers look after the welfare and administrative needs of the crew, a foundational aspect in maintaining a positive work environment.

Logistics coordinators are vital for the seamless operation of the ship, overseeing the inventory, and ensuring that provisions are well-stocked. Their efforts ensure that both guests and crew have everything they need for a memorable voyage. What’s more, for those with an eye for detail and a head for numbers, there are positions in the finance department, tasked with budget management and fiscal oversight.

Potential career paths in the administrative side of things are quite diverse and include avenues into:

  • Shore Excursions Management
  • Information Technology
  • Supply Chain Operations

The beauty of administrative careers on Celebrity Cruises is the sheer variety of opportunities available. One might start off as a general office administrator and, with the right mix of dedication and skill, navigate the way up to a senior managerial role overseeing several departments.

My journey towards understanding these roles made it clear that professional growth is a fundamental component of Celebrity Cruises’ employment strategy. Their dedication to internal promotion ensures that hard work is recognized and that there’s always room for advancement. Coupled with the travel perks and multicultural environment, crafting a career with Celebrity Cruises is both professionally and personally rewarding.

Entertainment and Performer Positions on Celebrity Cruises

One of the most exciting aspects of my career at Celebrity Cruises has been the chance to witness talented performers from around the world. The company is renowned for its high-caliber entertainment, which includes everything from Broadway-style theatre productions to live music performances. For artists and entertainers, Celebrity Cruises offers a platform like no other .

Positions on the entertainment team range from singers and dancers to stage managers and sound technicians. Each crew member plays a vital role in creating magical experiences for guests. A particular thrill for performers is the opportunity to work with world-class directors, choreographers, and production staff, many of whom have established careers on Broadway and in major entertainment districts worldwide.

My experiences have shown me that whether you’re in the spotlight or behind the scenes, Celebrity Cruises encourages each performer to bring their creativity and passion to the stage. The company offers extensive rehearsals, wardrobe, makeup, and state-of-the-art technical support to ensure that every show is spectacular.

Here are some of the key performer positions you could explore:

  • Lead Vocalists
  • Instrumentalists
  • Stage Managers
  • Lighting & Sound Technicians

Each position has its unique requirements, such as vocal range for singers or specific dance skills for dancers. However, a common thread among all these jobs is the need for dedication and the ability to work as part of a dynamic team.

Beyond the stage, roles extend to those who enhance the guest experience, such as cruise directors and activities hosts. In these roles, the ability to engage and energize a diverse group of travelers is crucial. You’re not just a staff member; you’re part of a broader ecosystem aimed at delivering unparalleled joy and entertainment.

The advantage of a career with Celebrity Cruises in entertainment is the professional growth accompanied by the allure of visiting breathtaking destinations. Not to mention, networking with fellow performers and industry professionals could spark lifelong friendships and career opportunities. As I’ve observed, those who bring their talent and enthusiasm to Celebrity Cruises find more than just a job – they discover a venue for their performances to be celebrated across the oceans.

Embarking on a career with Celebrity Cruises means more than just a job—it’s an adventure that offers growth, networking, and the joy of waking up to new horizons. Whether you’re in guest relations or dazzling guests with your performances, you’ll find that each day brings a unique opportunity to shine. Frequently Asked Questions

How do I book Nationals at Sea? All reservations for Nationals at Sea must be made through Celebrity. Call the Celebrity Offices today to book at 480.706.8888. Passengers not booked through Celebrity will not be able to partake in any Celebrity Events including, but not limited to, Competition, Master Classes, Celebrity Parties, The Celebrity Show or Celebrity Dining. It is important to note that this event package will be booked entirely through Celebrity, which is a third-party company, separate from Carnival.

How does pricing work? Pricing is per person, based on the cabin style you select. For pricing details, call the Celebrity Offices today at 480.706.8888.

Do I need a passport? Celebrity strongly recommends that all U.S. Citizens travel with a valid passport. While a birth certificate along with a photo I.D. may be permissible for sailing; all passengers must provide the necessary documents that the United States Department of Homeland Security requires. These requirements may change at any time, which is why we strongly recommend passengers travel with a valid passport. Any person not born in the United States must check with their local government for proper identification to travel outside of the United States. Any person that does not have the proper documentation will be denied boarding of the ship and will not be given a refund. Please note that some countries require your passport be valid at least six months beyond the dates of your trip. Please CLICK HERE for the most up-to-date information regarding passports and proper identification for cruising outside the United States.

What is included? Admission into competition, wonderful meals, private Celebrity Parties, Celebrity Master Classes, kids club, use of the fitness center and pools, activities, shows, entertainment, beautiful ports of call, port charges, taxes and much more.

What is not included in prices? Transfers, fuel charges, pre or post hotel, insurance, air travel, gratuities and passports.

How much is my deposit? Deposits are $125-$250 per person depending on time of booking and are non-refundable. A deposit is required at time of booking to secure your stateroom and price. Your deposit will count towards your cruise total. Cabins booked after April 1 will require payment in full at time of booking.

How do the payment plans work? Celebrity allows passengers to make monthly interest-free payments for their reservation. The minimum monthly payment must be received by the required due date each month. Any late payments will result in a $35 late fee. After two (2) missed payments, your reservation will be cancelled and you will not receive a refund. If the final payment is not received by the required due date, your reservation will be cancelled and you will not receive a refund. Payments can be made by check or credit card. However, all payments by credit card will result in a 4% fee due to transaction costs. There will also be a fee of $35 for any returned checks.

How do I complete a name change? Any name changes, including spelling corrections, will be charged a $100 fee after April 1, 2024. Please ensure Celebrity has accurate full legal names and birth dates for all passengers sailing, prior to that date. To complete a name change, please contact the Celebrity Offices at 480.706.8888.

What if I am sailing with a minor? Each stateroom with an individual under the age of 21 must have at least one adult over the age of 25. Children under six (6) months of age on the first day of the sailing are not permitted to travel due to the infant’s vulnerable health. The availability of medical care at sea or in port may be limited or delayed. Early infant care may specifically require specialized diagnostic facilities and/or treatment that are not obtainable on board the ship.

What if I am expecting a child? Due to safety concerns, Carnival policy refuses passage to women who have entered the 24th week of pregnancy as of the sail date. All pregnant guests may be required to produce a physician’s letter stating that mother and baby are in good health, fit to travel, and the pregnancy is not high-risk. This letter may also need to include the estimated date of delivery. If you are or will be pregnant by the date of cruise disembarkation, please check Carnival’s policy to see if this may apply to you. Please also notify Celebrity if this applies to you so Carnival can be informed. Carnival may change this policy at any time, in which case, Celebrity will inform you.

What if I need to cancel? Deposits are nonrefundable at the time of booking. If any passenger cancels on or before December 1, 2023, their payments will be applied to the existing reservation as long as 2 passengers are still sailing and at least 1 cabin is booked for that account. Penalties starting December 2, 2023 are as follows:

PENALTIES STARTING DECEMBER 1, 2023 ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Booking Date-December 1, 2023: If the entire cabin or party cancels, the $125 per person nonrefundable deposit is lost.

December 2, 2023-January  31, 2024: $100 nonrefundable per person plus the $125 nonrefundable deposit. Total not refunded: $225 per person cancelled.

February 1, 2024-March 31, 2024: $300 nonrefundable per person plus the $125 nonrefundable deposit. Total not refunded: $425 per person cancelled.

April 1, 2024 through Sailing: No money refunded.

Celebrity highly recommends the purchase of travel insurance. Any person that does not purchase travel insurance will lose all funds if they need to cancel for any reason, including weather and Acts of God.

POLICIES? All policies will be those of Celebrity and the laws of Arizona only. Celebrity reserves the right to change policies at any time.

Exciting Cruise Nightlife Options on Celebrity

Last updated: June 4th, 2023

Couple enjoying disco night

  • Find a Cruise

When the sun goes down, cruise nightlife options abound on board a Celebrity Cruises luxury cruise ship. Cruise entertainment is delightful and diverse, providing something for everyone.

Thrilling Theatre Performances

Enjoying a live performance is one of the best things to do on a cruise . Watch exhilarating Broadway-worthy productions with casts of gifted performers in Celebrity’s grand theater. Elyria, an original musical, is an adults-only production that puts an intriguing twist on a fairytale with enchanting, dream-like visuals and acrobatics alongside powerful singing and dancing.

Lively performance in Rock City, Celebrity Cruises

You may want to dance in the aisle while watching a performance of Rock City, a live stadium-style concert featuring rock anthems that will take you back and rock you forward. Other live performances include magic shows, comedy skits, and music performances. Check out your daily copy of Celebrity Today for performance times.

Bountiful Bars and Lounges

With some of the best mixologists and sommeliers in the business right onboard your ship, you’ll have no trouble finding the right venue to suit your cruise nightlife mood and taste.

People hanging out at Martini Bar for cruise nightlife on Celebrity Edge

Martini BarChill out, literally, at Martini Bar & Crush thanks to the shaved ice-topped bar, where you can meet friends and make friends while sipping a decadent specialty martini. Stop by for an after-dinner or after-show drink if you’re not ready to head to your stateroom, and watch the excitement build as the bartenders do their impressive multi-cup pours.

Celebrity Cruises offers fine dining experiences throughout the ship, and at World Class Bar , we offer a “fine drinking” experience as well. Smooth, special, and sophisticated describe the bar’s space, ambiance, and drinks, which are made by bowtied mixologists using uncommon ingredients and sometimes for one night only. Cruise nightlife can begin or end here as you raise a handcrafted-cocktail toast to the start of your cruise or bid it a fond farewell.

Friends hanging out over wine at Cellar Masters to enjoy Celebrity cruise nightlife

Cellar Masters

There’s always a favorite wine to quaff or a new wine flight to try at Celebrity’s onboard wine bar, Cellar Masters , boasting 400 wine selections. This clubby space has beautiful brick and wood accents, a wall of glass-fronted wine cabinets, and cozy, arched-nook spaces perfect for savoring the qualities of that special glass of wine, meeting up with friends, or enjoying an intimate conversation.

Passport Bar, located in the Grand Foyer, is an expansive space with lots of comfortable seating. It’s a great place to head after dinner to try a craft cocktail or an appealing IPA. Watch some of the ship’s troupe perform musical numbers or dance to the house band’s musical selections long into the night.

Gentlemen chatting over drinks at Michael's Club for Celebrity cruise nightlife

Michael’s Club

The 9 Best Gay Cruises for 2024 (+ Planning Tips)

W hether you are looking to hop aboard a Pride Week cruise with a major line or sail away with a smaller company that specializes in LGBTQ voyages, the following cruise operators promise a fun, safe and memorable vacation.

(Note: While many of these cruise lines sail to LGBTQ-friendly ports of call, travelers should research destinations to learn more about cultures, customs and safety in each location and determine what's right for them.)

Category Navigation Box Enhancement : Table of Contents - Travel - Best Gay Cruises

Founded by avid travelers Randle Roper, Patrick Gunn and John Finen, VACAYA bills itself as the first all-LGBT travel company in the full-ship charter/resort buyout sector of the travel industry to launch in more than 25 years.

"[VACAYA] was sparked by our own vacations, where we all had encountered two very different experiences," says Gunn. "The all-gay cruises were liberating, empowering and fun, but limited to a small spectrum of people. And while everyone loves a good time, there's more to a memorable vacation than just parties. Mainstream vacations offered more activities and destinations, and were accessible to a diverse set of people, but didn't always feel like a friendly, judgment-free environment."

As such, VACAYA set out to bring LGBTQ travelers from across the spectrum together in a welcoming, inclusive setting, while offering varied onboard activities and immersive itinerary options. Cruisers will enjoy traveling to ports around the world, in the Caribbean , the Galápagos, Europe , Antarctica and more. You can participate in shipwide events ranging from themed deck parties to performances by LGBTQ entertainers to rejuvenating yoga classes. Note that VACAYA's cruises are for adults only.

Previous cruisers had abundant praise for VACAYA's voyages, highlighting the company's responsiveness when booking and the kindhearted staff, as well as the genuine connections they made with other passengers on board. Many were also impressed by the events and entertainment options throughout their sailings.

In 2024, VACAYA will offer a number of voyages worldwide. The seven-night Caribbean Cruise on Celebrity Apex in February will sail round-trip from Fort Lauderdale, with several fun-filled days at sea in addition to stops in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Antigua. In August, VACAYA has a 12-night river cruise in Northern Europe on board Advance by Transcend Cruises; this sailing includes the Amsterdam Pride event. The 11-night Antarctica expedition on Atlas Ocean Voyages' World Navigator in December 2024 is sold out, but you can join the waitlist.

Virgin Voyages

The Virgin brand has long been known for its celebration of the LGBTQ community, and cruise line Virgin Voyages is no different. The strictly adults-only cruise operator aims to provide a unique experience, with onboard tattoo parlors, impressive live entertainment, and dining options that include more than 20 eateries and menus created by Michelin star chefs. This line gets the stamp of approval from previous LGBTQ cruisers, who praise the ships' gender-neutral bathrooms, diverse staff and onboard shows with resident drag queens.

Virgin Voyages offers gay-specific sailings through travel companies like Atlantis Events, but its more mainstream itineraries still offer a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere that attracts LGBTQ cruisers year-round. Virgin hosts a number of events during Pride Month each year, including deck parties and interactive social media campaigns.

"Each June here at Virgin Voyages, we like to go big for Pride Month with larger-than-life events … all monthlong," the cruise line says in a statement on its website. "It's an important time for us – both internally within our crew and for our sailors – to honor and celebrate the LGBTQ community; who for so long has had to continually fight for equality and the right to be seen, heard and included."

Virgin Voyages sails to a variety of LGBTQ-friendly countries, including New Zealand, Greece and Spain. In June 2024, consider a seven-night sailing aboard Scarlet Lady departing from Barcelona with stops in Marseille and Cannes in France as well as Spain's Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza.

Atlantis Events

The world's largest gay and lesbian travel brand, Atlantis Events was founded in 1991 and welcomes more than 20,000 travelers annually on LGBTQ vacations. For its all-gay cruises, Atlantis charters megaships from popular lines like Royal Caribbean International , Norwegian Cruise Line and Virgin Voyages in addition to smaller vessels with companies like Oceania Cruises so cruisers will have a fully immersive experience.

On board, travelers can enjoy all the perks these ships have to offer (think: pools, hot tubs, sports courts and plenty of dining choices), plus special events like drag performances, motivational speakers, LGBTQ movies on demand in each cabin and high-energy circuit parties across the ship.

"As an LGBTQ cruiser, you're looking for a ship with lots of entertainment, including dance parties and events," says Marcos Martinez, founder of Men Who Brunch, a Black gay lifestyle blog. "One of the best cruise [lines] for gay cruising is Atlantis, since you'll be able to meet hundreds of attractive men and party all day and night on the ship."

Atlantis hosts primarily gay men; women make up about 5% to 10% of bookings, according to the Atlantis website. Previous cruisers said the atmosphere on board was fun, friendly and welcoming, though some noted that the company's customer service could be better, especially when it comes to details about the cruise.

Due to the company's popularity, its three 2024 cruises are already sold out.

Brand g Vacations

Specializing in all-gay river cruises – and now luxury ocean liners – Brand g Vacations was founded in 2011 and explores destinations all over the world. Chartered river cruises typically welcome between 40 and 200 LGBTQ passengers (and their straight allies), which allows cruisers to get to know one another in a smaller setting. Guests tend to skew more mature (think: 40 and older), and the line attracts both men and women.

Onboard entertainment differs slightly from larger ocean voyages: Expect more cabaret-style entertainment than massive all-night dance parties. Cruisers will also enjoy performances by drag queens, gay Broadway stars and more, on top of typical river cruise perks like sightseeing and lavish meals. Past guests recommend choosing Brand g if you're looking for a well-planned, relaxed and luxurious experience over a busier, more party-heavy vacation.

Brand g aims to provide a nearly all-inclusive cruise experience , with Mercedes or small van airport transfers, upscale hotel stays prior to embarkation, and unlimited alcoholic beverages as well as meals included in the fare. As such, prices tend to be on the high end. Plus, cruisers can feel good about their trip knowing that Brand g donates to causes in the U.S. and around the world that assist LGBTQ refugees, AIDS organizations, LGBTQ centers and more.

In 2024, Brand g sails through unique waterways around the world, including the Amazon, the Loire, the Danube, the Mekong, and the Columbia and Snake rivers in the Pacific Northwest. The line's small cruise ship charters also take guests to Iceland, Spain, Morocco, Italy, Croatia and other European destinations.

Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Cruises sets the scene for an excellent vacation for gay travelers, from its extravagant annual Pride parties to its daily LGBTQ programming throughout the year. The mainstream line has received numerous awards for its inclusivity, receiving accolades from the Cruizie Awards, TTG Travel Awards and Travel Weekly's Magellan Awards for being one of the best cruise lines for LGBTQ passengers.

LGBTQ cruisers can start their vacations off on a high note with a special welcome party on the first night of their voyage to meet other travelers on board. After night one, there are other social events for gay cruisers to party and hang out together. Additionally, Celebrity Cruises was the first cruise line to legally marry a couple at sea in 2018, and it continues to perform same-sex marriages on its ships.

Past cruisers enjoyed their voyages with Celebrity, noting that the line was welcoming, the food was delicious, and there were plenty of areas to hang out as a group with fellow LGBTQ passengers or other companions throughout the ship.

Although all itineraries are gay-friendly, consider booking a sailing during Pride Month in June for an extra special experience. Onboard entertainment during this month includes guest entertainers, a flag raising ceremony, Celebrity's signature Pride Party at Sea and more. The Italian Riviera & France cruise will depart from Barcelona on June 8, 2024, on the new Celebrity Ascent; this 10-night Mediterranean sailing stops at ports in France, Italy and Malta. Private travel companies like VACAYA also charter Celebrity ships for all-gay voyages throughout the year.

Specifically marketed toward lesbians and LGBTQ women, Olivia has hosted more than 350,000 travelers by land and sea over five decades. Cruisers can choose between river voyages or ocean sailings to destinations around the world. On the lesbian cruises, expect a mix of nostalgic decade-themed dance parties, folk singers, writing workshops, karaoke and other activities. Cruisers can also relax poolside, spend some time in the onboard spa or take it easy in one of the ships' lounges.

Travelers who are looking to connect with others who share similar backgrounds can do so in one of Olivia's specialized programs. There are group and solo traveler meetups, as well as programs like Sisters, which is for LGBTQ women of color; Gen-O, for cruisers 40 and younger; Women in Uniform gatherings, for veterans and those currently in the armed forces; and events for OWLs (which stands for "older, wiser lesbians"). Past cruisers on Olivia's voyages report feeling a true sense of community and belonging on board, resulting in a fun, carefree trip.

In June 2024, set sail with Olivia from Edinburgh, Scotland, to Dublin on Windstar Cruises' Star Legend. Or, visit the islands of Tahiti on the line's Star Breeze in September. Other cruise itineraries include Alaska, the Greek Isles, Mexico and the Panama Canal.

Royal Caribbean International

Royal Caribbean International provides a welcoming and inclusive experience for LGBTQ travelers. The popular cruise line frequently partners with Atlantis Events to offer all-gay voyages throughout the year, but even the standard sailings earn praise.

Highlights of the sailings are the ships' entertainment options (including the Tony Award-winning musical "Mamma Mia!") and attentive staff, according to past cruisers. Itineraries typically include LGBTQ meetups at the beginning of each cruise for gay travelers to meet like-minded passengers. Outside of the sailing experience, Royal Caribbean has also publicly committed to supporting the LGBTQ community throughout the year, and it was the first cruise line to earn the title "Gay Traveler Approved" from GayTravel in 2016.

In 2024, consider a Royal Caribbean voyage that sails to gay-friendly destinations. "Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, [is] full of gay bars, clubs and gay beaches," says Martinez. Hop aboard Navigator of the Seas in May for a seven-night sailing round-trip from Los Angeles that stops in Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta and Ensenada, Mexico. Navigator of the Seas also hosts a seven-night itinerary throughout the year that calls on Mazatlan, Mexico, as well.

The Cruise With La Demence

According to past cruisers, if you're looking for one of the best party scenes on the open seas, consider an all-gay cruise with La Demence. Powered by a popular gay nightclub in Brussels with the same name, La Demence – French for "the madness" – primarily caters to a European crowd. Most passengers are male, though women are also welcome.

On board, passengers should expect to dance the night away at massive deck parties that last into the wee hours of the morning. The line prides itself on its top-notch DJs, impressive light setup and electric party atmosphere. Previous cruisers had high praise for the itineraries – which exclusively visit gay-friendly locations – as well as the fruity cocktails, themed nights (costumes strongly encouraged) and glamorous entertainment. Enjoy unique events like drag bingo, high heel runs and more.

La Demence sails every summer to European destinations like Greece, Italy and Malta. The 2023 cruise was chartered on Royal Caribbean's Explorer of the Seas. Fares include all food and nonalcoholic beverages, plus access to all parties, shows and the onboard gym.

Source Journeys

The Miami-based company, with the vision of founder and chief executive officer Craig Smith, offers small group land tours and full-charter cruises for like-minded travelers with a focus on giving back to the communities they visit. The company also supports LGBTQ organizations, such as the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force and the Human Rights Campaign.

Past guests of their tours say their fellow travelers were as fun and interesting as the destinations. They appreciated the excellent personalized planning for the trips by Smith and his life partner, Rafael Rodriguez.

The company's cruises in 2024 include a seven-night Galápagos sailing in late September on a Relais & Chateau luxury yacht: Ecoventura's new ship, Evolve. The intimate ship accommodates just 20 passengers. Source Journeys is also offering a seven-night river cruise through Burgundy and Provence, France, in June on Avalon Waterways' Avalon Poetry II, as well as a seven-night voyage from Venice along the Dalmatian Coast. From Tom Cruise breakdancing to Spice Girls reuniting, reports from Victoria Beckham's bash capture imagination

celebrity cruises dance jobs

Tom Cruise breakdancing, a Spice Girls reunion and tons of A-list celebrities gathering in one location have social media and the general public in awe over Victoria Beckham's 50th birthday party.

Beckham, who celebrated half a century over the weekend, posted about the luxurious soiree Sunday on Instagram.

But some of the most buzzworthy moments went intentionally unrecorded.

"I don’t think I’ve ever felt as loved as I did last night," Beckham's post said. "Thank you all for coming from near and so far!! X"

In the post, Beckham shared pictures of her with actor Eva Longoria, celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay, her husband, soccer star David Beckham and some of the couple's children.

In another Instagram post, Beckham shared a picture of her and the four other members of the English pop group, the Spice Girls.

"The best gift to be reunited!! Thank you to all my friends and family for celebrating with me. Kisses! xxx," Beckham's post about the Spice Girls said.

Guests 'absolutely dumbfounded' by Tom Cruise's dancing, reports say

Not included in either post were other famous attendees who came to celebrate with the Beckhams at Oswald’s, a private member’s club owned by Robin Birley in London's Mayfair district.

Oswald's is strict about taking photos and allowing social media within the venue , according to the club's member's privacy notice.

Actors Tom Cruise and Salma Hayek both made an appearance at Beckham's party and while one left an impression with their outfit, the other left it all on the dance floor, the Daily Mail reported.

Cruise, who turned 61 in July 2023, stunned guests when he began demonstrating "a series of breakdancing moves, culminating in splits," the outlet said.

"People were absolutely dumbfounded," one guest told the Daily Mail.

Social media reacts to Tom Cruise's 'split mania' and not receiving an invite to Victoria Beckham's party

While no photos or videos of Cruise dancing exist online, social media users continue to poke fun at the expense of the "Mission Impossible" movie star. An X user who goes by @Douggernaut_2 posted a clip of actor Mike Myers dancing in the film "Austin Powers" and said, "Tom Cruise arriving at Victoria Beckham's bday."

Several social media users hearkened back to when Cruise played the Les Grossman character in the 2008 comedy movie "Tropic Thunder." Cruise would hilariously reprise the character during the 2010 MTV Movie Awards and dance to rapper Ludacris' song "Get Back."

"Remember when Tom Cruise did this," X user @charletty_ said Monday in a post reacting to the video of Cruise's full dance routine at the awards show.

During the routine with singer and actress Jennifer Lopez, Cruise does a split on stage. X user @danilo_parks said Monday in a post, "It's real Tom Cruise does the splits mania out there today."

In addition to seeing Cruise do splits and the Spice Girls perform, guests also received goody bags full of Beckham's branded products, including a candle and a fragrance, the Telegraph reported.

All the fun has people wondering where their invite was to Beckham's birthday party, including X user @StaceyVaselaney who said, "I’m sitting here shaking my head wondering why wasn’t I invited to Victoria Beckham’s 50th birthday party."

What to Know About Victoria Beckham’s 50th Birthday

Posh Spice had a party involving tequila, Tom Cruise, Salma Hayek — and a rare performance by all five Spice Girls.

Victoria Beckham, who has disheveled hair and is wearing sunglasses, being carried outside of a building by David Beckham on his back. He is wearing a black bow tie, a white collared shirt, suspenders, black pants and black shoes.

By Elizabeth Paton

A 50th birthday is a major milestone in any woman’s life — though not everyone has to step into it like Victoria Beckham, who not long ago broke her foot in a gym accident. Still, Mrs. Beckham was determined to celebrate in style in London on Saturday, when, at least for one night, she replaced the medical boot she has been wearing for months with pointed toe stilettos, visible panties and a long sheer sea-foam-green gown from her own label.

“As I get ready to step into 50 (in heels, of course!), I feel so incredibly blessed to have reached this milestone,” she wrote in an Instagram post last week. “Blessed, but also accomplished and deeply content. This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter, and I’m only just getting started.”

Here’s what happened at the big birthday bash thrown by the fashion designer and former Spice Girl.

The Location

The party took place at Oswald’s, an exclusive private member’s club owned by Robin Birley in the Mayfair neighborhood of London. Mr. Birley, London’s king of clubs, named Oswald’s after his grandfather, whose portrait hangs behind the reception desk.

The club is known to attract a who’s who of guests. When Beyoncé was in town last year, she headed to Oswald’s. When Princess Eugenie celebrated her wedding anniversary, she did it at Oswald’s. When former prime ministers like Tony Blair and Boris Johnson book date nights with their wives? Oswald’s. Don’t believe us? You’ll have to take our word for it: The club has strict policies against taking photos and using social media accounts.

The Guest List

Of course David Beckham, Mrs. Beckham’s husband of 25 years, was there, as were their four children Romeo, Cruz, Harper and Brooklyn, who were all dressed in black and white. Brooklyn’s wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, didn’t attend but made it very clear she was sad to miss out via a gushy Instagram post .

Among the 100 invited guests were a constellation of Mrs. Beckham’s celebrity friends, including Tom Cruise, Eva Longoria, Salma Hayek, François-Henri Pinault, Marc Anthony, Guy Ritchie and Gordon Ramsay. Guests also included all four of Mrs. Beckham’s former Spice Girls bandmates: Geri Halliwell-Horner (Ginger), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty), Melanie Brown (Scary) and Emma Bunton (Baby).

The Entertainment

Party guests — and the internet — went into meltdown after Mr. Beckham, 48, posted a video on Instagram of his wife and the other Spice Girls dancing and singing to their 1997 hit single “Stop.”

“I mean come on,” Mr. Beckham captioned the 12-second video, his head bobbing up and down in front of the five women, who have not performed together publicly since the London Olympics in 2012. Mrs. Beckham later reposted the video on her own account, writing: “Best night ever! Happy Birthday to me! I love you all so much!” and accompanying the caption with the hashtag “Spice Up Your Life.”

According to The Daily Mail, tequila (Mrs. Beckham’s tipple of choice) was well and truly flowing. Mr. Cruise, 61, was said to be doing splits on the dance floor in the early hours, after helping up a photographer who tripped on the sidewalk earlier in the night. The Telegraph said that guests were treated to goody bags full of Victoria Beckham branded goods, including a candle and a fragrance.

Ms. Brown, better known as Scary Spice, hinted at a potential reunion for the Spice Girls when she reposted Mr. Beckham’s video on her Instagram Stories, writing: “About last night #tourdatescomingsoon.”

The clearest signs of a successfully spicy night could be found in the last paparazzi photos of Mrs. Beckham leaving her party at 2:30 a.m., in sunglasses, via a piggyback from her husband, who carried her straight into a waiting limo. No word to the press regarding headaches the following morning.

Aerial shot of Celebrity Cruises ship Celebrity Apex at sunset

A party on board The Cruise With La Demence

Courtesy of The Cruise With La Demence

Source Journeys has been planning luxury vacations for LGBTQ travelers for more than 20 years.

This ocean cruise scheduled in August is chartered on Star Clippers' masted sailing ship, Royal Clipper.

Frequently Asked Questions

When it comes to gay cruising, gone are the days of discreet "Friends of Dorothy" meetups. The term – a euphemism that dates back to the 1950s – was once used to indicate gay social events on daily cruise line programs, without explicitly calling out members of the community on board. It's a far cry from today's LGBTQ cruising industry, which loudly and proudly celebrates passengers from all walks of life.

According to experts, LGBTQ cruising is a market that will only continue to grow. Travelers can take their pick between cruise operators tailored specifically to queer communities and major cruise lines that offer festive Pride celebrations and inclusive onboard entertainment. As travel on the high seas continues to grow in popularity for vacationers, gay and lesbian travelers should consider setting sail on a fun-filled cruise vacation for their next trip.

When planning a cruise, vacationers should first consider what their ideal sailing looks like.

Gay-friendly vs. all-gay sailings: Cruisers should think about whether they'd like to travel aboard a gay-friendly mainstream line – such as Celebrity Cruises or Virgin Voyages – or opt for an all-gay, full-ship charter with a third-party vacation company.

"Each and every LGBTQIAPK person has a different level of comfortability in their 'outness,' " says Patrick Gunn, co-founder and chief marketing officer of LGBTQ vacation company VACAYA. Of VACAYA's all-gay charters, he adds, "For one magical week, our community gets to be the majority and live life out loud in the blissful utopia VACAYA creates on a gay cruise. That single change from being an always-minority to a sudden majority can have a profoundly positive real-world effect on individuals."

  • Travel style: Some cruise operators (think: Atlantis Events and La Demence) are known for their electrifying all-night parties, which may be perfect for gay groups of friends. Meanwhile, other companies like VACAYA and Olivia look to provide a more diverse selection of activities, ranging from tea dances (LGBTQ parties that, historically, included tea service) to philanthropic service activities to immersive onshore experiences.
  • Ports of call: Some of the most LGBTQ- and gay-friendly destinations for cruises include: Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Sydney; Barcelona, Spain; Taipei (Keelung), Taiwan; Helsinki; Quebec City; Auckland, New Zealand; Mykonos, Greece; Reykjavik, Iceland; Amsterdam; Tel Aviv, Israel; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and San Francisco. Countries that gay travelers may want to avoid include the Maldives, Jamaica, Morocco, Malaysia and Haiti, as homosexuality is illegal in these destinations.
