On the heels of his win at 56th Academy of Country Music Awards , Chris Stapleton has announced nearly 20 new tour dates, including two in Alabama.

The country singer-songwriter -- who won the Album of the Year trophy for “Starting Over” at Sunday’s ACM ceremony -- is set to perform on Sept. 17 at Oak Mountain Amphitheatre in Pelham and Sept. 18 at The Wharf Amphitheater in Orange Beach.

Tickets for the Oak Mountain show go on sale on April 30 at 10 a.m. CT through Ticketmaster/Live Nation. Two pre-sales are set for April 29 starting at 10 a.m., according to the Ticketmaster website .

Tickets for the show at The Wharf go on sale May 7 at 10 a.m. CT through Ticketmaster/Live Nation .

Prices haven’t been announced for either concert. Both are set for 7 p.m., with opening acts Elle King and Nikki Lane.

These shows are part of the country artist’s “All American Road Show,” which runs from July 17 through June 25, 2022, according to his website . Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Stapleton had canceled or postponed several dates on his tour, including a show set for March 21, 2020, at the Legacy Arena at the BJCC.

Other new dates are set for Southern cities including Bristow, Virginia (Aug. 14, Jiffy Lube Live), Atlanta (Aug. 28, Cellaris Amphitheatre at Lakewood) and Memphis (Dec. 3, FedEx Forum).

Stapleton, 43, is no stranger to Alabama; “Cold,” a track on “Starting Over,” was recorded at the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Sheffield. He’s also appeared at venues ranging from Birmingham’s Iron City to the former Sloss Music & Arts Festival .

Stapleton has four studio albums to his credit: “Traveller” (2015), “From a Room: Volume 1″ (2017), “From a Room: Volume 2” (2017) and “Starting Over” (2020). He’s won several awards for his work over the past six years, including five Grammys, five Billboard Music Awards and 10 awards from the Country Music Association.

Stapleton added one more accolade to his stash over the weekend, after winning eight awards from the Academy of Country Music in previous years. He also performed with Miranda Lambert at Sunday’s ACM ceremony, in a segment filmed in advance at the Bluebird Cafe. The two sang an acoustic version of “Maggie’s Song,” a track from “Starting Over” that pays tribute to Stapleton’s dog, who died in 2019.

“Let me tell you a story/About an old friend of mine/Somebody left her in a shopping cart/In a parking lot for us to find,” the song lyrics begin. “Just a fuzzy black pup/She was hungry and feeling alone/We put her in the back seat/Told her we were taking her home.”

Stapleton’s wife, Morgane Stapleton, originally was scheduled to perform with him at the ACMs, but bowed out because of a “prior doula commitment,” according to People magazine .

“Stapleton later clarified to media in the press room that ‘My sister-in-law’s in labor right now, so my wife was on baby watch — and for once, not her own baby! — but it’s been an interesting night tonight so lots to celebrate,’” People said.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the ACM ceremony was split among several locations, including the Grand Ole Opry House, the Ryman Auditorium and the Bluebird. Winners accepted awards in real time, in front of small audiences made up of medical and health care workers.

Review: Country superstar Chris Stapleton shows it's about the conviction, not the showmanship

Let the parade begin. Country stars are coming to U.S. Bank Stadium.

Kenny Chesney was expected. After all, he's country's king of stadium concerts (he's back again on May 4). But on Saturday, Chris Stapleton kicked off a run of three new country-affiliated stadium performers.

Stapleton may be one of the most award-winning country artists of the past decade (including 10 Grammys, three for country album of the year, two CMA Awards for top album and seven for best male vocalist) but he doesn't seem to have anything in common with the other new headliners, underground phenomenon Zach Bryan (Aug. 24) and best-selling bad-boy Morgan Wallen (June 20-21).

Stapleton, a 45-year-old straw-cowboy-hat-wearin' Kentuckian, lives in the intersection of blues and country, two cousins in the sense that they can plumb deep emotions in straightforward ways. Stapleton is a master of concision, in conversation, lyrics and music. On Saturday, he was a masterfully expressive blues-rock guitarist, equal parts finesse and fire but never flashy.

As with George Strait, it's not about the showmanship with Stapleton, it's about the songs, vocals and musicianship. The theater footlights and a proscenium curtain backdrop notwithstanding, this was about as frills-free as a stadium show gets.

Stapleton is not a physical performer, but he's forceful. He knows how to make his voice roar, growl and even purr real nice and pretty when he wants to. He owes a debt to R&B shouter Otis Redding and full-volume rocker John Fogerty.

For two hours Saturday, Stapleton sang with deepfelt conviction, unleashing his vocal power in the homestretch on "The Devil Named Music" and "Traveller," the title track of his 2015 debut album. His most impassioned vocal came on "Cold," the heartbreaking power ballad with painfully lonely blues guitar, elevating it to the night's high point. How often is a ballad the best moment at a stadium concert?

Stapleton showed an expressive vocabulary on guitar, with galloping on "White Horse," garage-rock flailing on "Second One to Know," slacker bass-heavy twang on "Might as Well Get Stoned," swampy chicken pickin' on "Hard Livin'," bent-note blues on "Worry B Gone," soulful caresses on "Think I'm in Love with You," rumbling blues-rock on "Nobody to Blame," a boozy bluesiness on "Tennessee Whiskey" and haunting twang rock on "The Devil Named Music."

Missing in action Saturday was Stapleton's wife, backup singer Morgane Stapleton, but on board in the six-man band was harmonica player Mickey Raphael, who is usually with Willie Nelson & Family.

Stapleton, who opened for Strait at the Vikings stadium in 2021, understands the impact of being an opening act in a stadium can have. For his All-American Road Show tour, he tapped Marcus King, a rising blues-rock guitar hero, and Lainey Wilson, one of Nashville's hottest artists who captured top album and entertainer of the year at last November's CMA Awards.

Even though Wilson gave a no-gimmicks performance, it was easy to see why she earned the entertainer of the year prize from her peers.

Wilson, 31, cut a striking figure on the stadium's big screens with her hippie-meets-Western aesthetic of turquoise, fringe, bell bottoms and platform shoes. She was engaging, encouraging and effervescent. And she seemed genuinely grateful about her recent ascent after 13 years in Nashville.

With her unapologetic Louisiana drawl, Wilson imparted wisdom in the empowering "Things a Man Oughta Know" and the confidence-inducing "Atta Girl" (which she introduced by reading a female fan's sign: "I am smart, I am beautiful, I am godly").

She poured her heart into the very mainstream "Country's Cool Again", the Western-flavored "Wildflowers and Wild Horses" (which was introduced by a guitarist playing an instrumental version of "Ghost Riders in the Sky") and "Wait in the Truck," her award-winning duet with Jelly Roll that was rendered as a solo acoustic guitar number enrapturing the suddenly silent 47,000 fans in the huge stadium. And she closed the knockout hourlong set by belting out a big note on her own hit "Heart Like a Truck."

After opening for both Stapleton and Luke Combs at the Vikings stadium in her only major Twin Cities appearances, Wilson is clearly ready to headline her own arena show.

Chris Stapleton Rocks Saturday Night Live With Thundering “White Horse” Performance

chris stapleton tour 2021

The stage might have been small at the historic Studio 8H in Rockefeller Center, but Chris Stapleton played it like another one of his stadium tour stops.

There’s Chris Stapleton’s voice, and then there’s everybody else’s. No one can hold a candle to the vocal abilities of the Kentucky native, and he showcased his iconic pipes and mesmerizing guitar playing as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live .

Stapleton decided to play it safe with his song choice by rolling out the most popular song from his latest album Higher . The track has won plenty of awards for the Kentucky native, including Best Country Solo Performance and Country Song at the 66th Grammy Awards. And as he often does, Chris got some help on stage from his wife Morgane as she brought the back up vocals and the always underrated job of jostling the tambourine.

It made sense for Stapleton to break out the anthemic “White Horse” for those Saturday Night Live viewers that are somehow uninitiated to his brand of music, and probably country music in general. As you’ve probably heard before, some city folk just don’t get it.

That’s why Chris must have decided to turn it up to 110 percent with his performance. Now that I think about it, Stapleton’s 110 percent could be the result of him trying at about 70 percent. He makes anything that he does musically look effortless.

Stapleton also looked rather comfortable in a sketch that aired on the show titled “Get That Boy Back.” It was a classic play on the country music revenge song (think Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats”), and Chris played his part seamlessly. And by no surprise, his voice sounded just as good in the recorded skit as it did in his live performance.

You’ve likely heard Stapleton’s “White Horse” by now, but you’ve never heard it live (sort of) from the iconic stage of the long-running comedy show. Take a listen:

He’s the man.

And Stapleton proved that to be true by going out for his second performance of the show all by himself to sing “Mountains of My Mind.” The track is slow, at least slower, than the others included on Higher , and is actually the last track on the album he released late last year. But it was the perfect juxtaposition to his energetic “White Horse” earlier in the show.

The song, which is a heartfelt look at the inner battles one fights within their own head, was beautifully executed live on SNL. You could hear a pin drop in the historic studio, and that’s saying something considering the show tapes dead in the heart of the city that never sleeps.

That’s just a testament to how Stapleton can command a stage, and sing a tear-jerking song like the incredibly underrated “Mountains of My Mind.”

Slash Cold-Called Chris Stapleton to Get Him to Sing on His Blues Album: 'One of the Best Ideas I've Had'

Slash will release his forthcoming album, 'Orgy of the Damned,' on May 17

chris stapleton tour 2021

Slash wasn't going to take no for an answer when it came to Chris Stapleton singing on his album.

Speaking to Rolling Stone in an interview released Friday, April 12, the Guns 'N Roses rocker revealed that he knew he had to have the country star for his cover of Fleetwood Mac 's "Oh Well."

“His singing cadence and that drawl that he has for this particular song, in my mind’s eye, it sounded perfect,” Slash, 58, told the outlet.

“I had to get his number and cold-call him,” Slash added. “And he was really gracious about it and really bent over backwards to help me get it done.”

After they recorded the track, it came out exactly how Slash imagined it would. “I think it was one of the best ideas I’ve had in recent memory, was to have him sing that song," he said.

In 2016, Stapleton, 45, opened for the Nashville date of Guns 'N Roses' Not in This Lifetime reunion tour.

Slash's new album, Orgy of the Damned, is set for release on May 17 and features collaborations with Billy Gibbons, Iggy Pop, Demi Lovato , and more. Slash previously released single “Killing Floor” featuring vocals from AC/DC's Brian Johnson and Aerosmith 's Steven Tyler .

Following the release of his album, the rocker will embark on his S.E.R.P.E.N.T. Festival Tour across North America with various musicians.

"The S.E.R.P.E.N.T. tour is a celebration of blues and rock ‘n’ roll music, and a celebration of unity and togetherness in these uncertain and divisive times," said Slash said a  press release on his website .

According to the Grammy winner, S.E.R.P.E.N.T. stands for "Solidarity, Engagement, Restore, Peace, Equality N’ Tolerance" and ties into the tour's charitable aspect, as its proceeds will partially benefit  The Equal Justice Initiative ,  Know Your Rights Camp ,  The Greenlining Institute  and  War Child .

"S.E.R.P.E.N.T is a vehicle to help support and uplift people and communities suffering from the injustices of racism and equal rights violations, as well as to support children adversely affected by war and poverty across the world," continued Slash.

"So, we are contributing a portion of every ticket and VIP package sold from the tour to those ends. S.E.R.P.E.N.T. will also provide an environment where folks can get together for a day of great music and hang out and have a good time," his statement concluded.

Luke Combs attends the 56th Academy of Country Music Awards at the Grand Ole Opry on April 18, 2021 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Luke Combs leads the nominations for the 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards with eight nods, including entertainer of the year, male artist of the year, album of the year, song of the year, and single of the year.

Megan Moroney and Morgan Wallen are next in line with six nods each. That makes Moroney the year’s most-nominated woman. She is vying for both female artist of the year and new female artist of the year.

2024 ACM Awards: Snubs & Surprises

Trending on billboard.

Cody Johnson , Chris Stapleton and Lainey Wilson received five nominations each, followed by Jelly Roll and Jordan Davis with four nods each and Kelsea Ballerini and Zach Bryan with three nods each.

The Academy of Country Music (ACM) and Dick Clark Productions (DCP) announced nominations for the 59th Academy of Country Music Awards on The Bobby Bones Show on Tuesday (April 9).

First-time nominee Jelly Roll’s four nods include entertainer of the year. The last artist to be nominated for entertainer of the year as part of his first set of nominations was Billy Ray Cyrus in 1992, the same year he gained fame for his smash hit “Achy Breaky Heart.”

Combs and Wilson are nominees for entertainer of the year. A win by either artist will clinch the ACM’s Triple Crown Award , which consists of an entertainer of the year win, plus wins in an act’s respective new artist and artist categories. Past ACM Triple Crown Award recipients include Chris Stapleton, Miranda Lambert, Jason Aldean, Carrie Underwood and Kenny Chesney.

Several acts extended long streaks of nominations in their categories.

Brothers Osborne is nominated for duo of the year for the 10th year in a row. The pair has won the award four times, including last year.

Stapleton received his ninth consecutive nomination for male artist of the year, an award he has won three times in the past. Stapleton is also nominated for entertainer of the year, which he won for the first time last year.

Old Dominion is nominated for group of the year for the ninth consecutive year. The group has taken home the award every year for the last six years. Old Dominion is also the year’s only group or duo to receive multiple nominations. They are also nominated for music event of the year.

Kacey Musgraves receives her eighth nomination for female artist of the year. She won the award in 2018, the same year she won album of the year for Golden Hour.

Ballerini is nominated for female artist of the year for the seventh time. She’s also nominated for album of the year for the first time for Rolling Up the Welcome Mat (For Good).

This is the fifth year in a row that Combs has been nominated for both male artist of the year and entertainer of the year.

This is the first time since 2018 that the new duo/group category will be presented at the ACM Awards . The nominees are Neon Union, Restless Road and Tigirlily Gold.

Other first-time artist nominees include Kassi Ashton, Tyler Childers, Ashley Cooke, Hannah Ellis, Flatland Cavalry, Jelly Roll, Kameron Marlowe, Kylie Morgan and Conner Smith.

The single of the year and visual media of the year categories will both have first-time winners in those categories this year, as there are no previous winners nominated in either category.

In some cases, an artist may receive more than one nomination per category, if they are also credited as a producer, director or songwriter.

Awards are voted on by members of the Academy of Country Music, which boasts a record-high membership this year of more than 5,000 members.

The 59th Academy of Country Music Awards is produced by Dick Clark Productions. Raj Kapoor is executive producer and showrunner, with Patrick Menton as co-executive producer. Damon Whiteside serves as executive producer for the Academy of Country Music, and Barry Adelman serves as executive producer for DCP. John Saade serves as consulting producer for Amazon MGM Studios.

The ACM Awards, which bills itself as “Country Music’s Party of the Year,” will stream live exclusively for a global audience on Prime Video on Thursday, May 16, at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT/5 p.m. PT from Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas. The full rebroadcast will be available directly following the stream on Prime Video and also the next day for free on Amazon Freevee and the Amazon Music app.
