Blackvelvet.

when you shift into reverse gear. the sensors in the rear bumper 2 each side, cause lights to appear in the rear of the ca,r if you are within 6 ft of an obstacle. At 6 feet the light should show yellow, as you get nearer to the obstacle the yellow lights increase in number,. when the yellow lights go out and red light shows on it's own, that is as close as you want to get.

Mine is very slightly different - the closer you get the more yellow lights, then IN ADDITION the red lights (up to 2) come on as well and the beeper sounds solid, and the radio volume goes off at this point too.

But of course you actually asked what is the parking sensor service. Not how they work. No idea what that is sorry!!!!

QinteQ

but Get with the programme what I asked is what is the "Service Park Assist "what is it and how do you do i

You have a fault with the reversing sensor system, or "Park Assist"  Just went out to confirm, I had the same warning, as the in car display had been knocked off. I've just reattached it and the warnings gone.  So you just need to find out whats broke, and fix it.

Like

Thanks for the advice

if I could find what's wrong I would fix it, that being the case I wouldn't be on the forum asking for help would I

I'd start by giving all the sensors a good wash and inspect for damage.

I've read in the past the sensors give off a humming sound or you can feel a slight vibration from them. Get someone to sit inside, with the handbrake on and the foot brake held firmly, and get them to put it into reverse. Listen to, then touch each sensor, and see if any one is different from the rest.  If that's not conclusive, time to go underneath and inspect the wiring/connections, and, if you have a multimeter, perhaps test the sensors. I'm not sure how accessible they are though.  I'd think Youtube will have a video on testing them, just do a search for "reverse sensor testing", the method will likely be the same.

Thanks for the advice that was my next task I'll keep everyone posted at least if it cures the problem it'll help somebody else

Regards Ron

Also please specify what year, model, variation, etc, and you'll get more replies with more specific information. I've found several different parking systems on the MK-IV editions, but they all work on a similar principle, each sensor is two-wires that link back to a control box, normally in the rear passenger side in the boot (Difficult to get at, on mine it's between the join between rear section and speaker for rear passengers), but all wires will go back to there generally.

You can test an ultrasonic sensor in a very rudimentary way by using a multimeter like soupstone says, you need to be on the ohm reading and it'll measure something like several thousand ohms, compare each of them and you should hopefully see one with a vastly different resistance (or infinite).

Good luck and hopefully you can locate the wiring harness they lead back to with a connector for easy probing/testing.

At last someone who understands the problem the vehicle is mk4 Feb 2008 2.8 diesel auto I've just bought some electrical contact cleaner so I'll start with the sensors and go from there I also have a 7 series beemer with the same problem on the beemer you can hear the sensors clicking when the car is in reverse so it's easier to detect which sensor is defective

Hi, does the reverse light/lights at the rear of the car come on?

The reverse lights and the sensors are linked through the same switch, on the gear box(mine 2004 is on the left hand side of the car behind the wheel), otherwise the sensors won't know that the gear is switched to reverse.

Hope it helps.

I need to replace some of the parking sensors on my 2007 2.8 CRD. Looking on the internet at several parts suppliers, there seem to be a number of different makes, with the right angle connector and different lengths of body. Do they all fit, or do I need to dismantle the bumper to check the type?

Park Assist Problem

chrysler voyager parking sensors problems

  • Add to quote

A friend down the road has just purchased a 5.7 Touring with lpg conversion and it has an intermittent reverse sensor/park assist problem. Most of the time you put it in reverse and the four red lights come on on the rear overhead display then it bongs "service Park Assist" on the evic. I tried disconnecting the hid translator module just in case it was playing up but it made no difference. Has anyone else had any simular issues or has anyone got any ideas of what could be wrong? I tried looking to see if any sensor wiring was loose but it has a tow bar and lpg fill up bracket underneath so you cannot see behind the bumper.

chrysler voyager parking sensors problems

Isn't there a wiring connector behind the OS tail lamp that serves the park assist?

I will have a look, I do know that the reverse lights work fine so its not the reverse switch. After a few seconds with four red lights on the park assist shuts itself off. Occasionally the system works fine.

What about the fogs? I think they are on the same loom.

The only time I've had that message was when the rear bumper was covered in snow and ice - so I suppose the system was getting wierd timing measurements which it considered out of range - hence the error. Presuming that they are all clean and not gummed up with wax/polish, I guess one or more of the sensors could be faulty or have loose wiring, but I'm not sure how you test ultrasonics without the assistance of a bat?!! The system may give the error until all the sensors are giving sensible readings.

Range Rovers had problems with parking sensors and it was put down to water damage by the Dealership.

All the sensors are spotless. I think I will advise him to get it plugged in at a stealership. It may be something that was done by whoever fitted the lpg kit on it, there is loads of pipes and stuff behind the bumper.

Id go with a faulty sensor

Not sure if this might help, however, a spectrum analyser on a smartphone can hear the sensors. There are free ones on the Iphone, not sure about android. I wonder if it's worth trying to listen to them with a phone, and see if one in particular is displaying a different frequency. Just a thought.

Nice idea, whats the iphone app called??

Thats worth a try as long as we can get them to stay on long enough. Cheers

chrysler voyager parking sensors problems

I copied & pasted this, might be useful  How to test a faulty sensor using the buzzer? (i) Locate the Parking Sensor Control Box (CPU) (ii) Unplug all the sensors from the CPU, perform a test by switching the ignition on with vehicle in reverse and all the sensors unplugged. If the buzzer remains silent after the start up tone then move onto to step (iii) If the buzzer continuously sounds when there are no sensors plugged in then the buzzer is faulty. (iii) Plug each sensor in one at a time and test by walking up to that sensor. If you have a problem with an individual sensor then the buzzer will continuously sound, if so then move onto step (iv). (iv) Remove the sensor that is malfunctioning from the bumper (leaving it plugged in) and hold it away from the vehicle and retest the sensor when it is out of the hole. If the buzzer remains silent after the start up tone then it appears that the hole is too small for the sensor and needs to be enlarged, the increased pressure on the sides of the sensors causes the sensors to short out and the result is a constant beeping. The sensors must be removed and the holes made slightly larger. If the sensor is still malfunctioning after it has been removed from the bumper then it sounds like a faulty sensor. (NB the OEM sensors unplugged at the back when removing the bumpers but if the lpg piping is preventing removal of the bumpers, then AS ABOVE ^^^ look for the CPU unit and unpluging at that end, assuming its is unplugable. Hopefully its mounted somewhere on a quater panel and not inside the roof area and hopefully this simple test can be performed without any evic interuption. Its worth a try, could save some money)

The one I have is called soundbeam

(i) Locate the Parking Sensor Control Box (CPU) Any idea where this is??

I have downloaded sound beam, when I see him next I will try it on his car. Cheers.

chrysler voyager parking sensors problems

Have you tried it on yours Simon???

Yeah and you can see the pulses from each sensor. Not sure it'll work on my friends car as they don't often come on, just four red lights then an evic bong and the lights are all gone lol.

Hi mate , I had a problem with my 2010 300c front parking sensors when I first bought the car it turned out that the sensors were set for the Original number plates that were a certain size then I put a new set on that were a different size and the dealership said that it needed to be recalibrated due to the different sized number plates. I am not saying that is your mates problem but just in case he has changed his number plates ,it might be one less thing to look for. Cheers Geoff

just tried it on mine, what settings did you have it on as mine didn't seem to do much,I could here the beep from the car but the soundbeam didn't seem to do much

chrysler voyager parking sensors problems

Simon, Did your neighbour fix his park assist? I've now got the same problem with mine and as the stealer did me £200+ for an ABS sensor I don't want to go back in a hurry. Doug L

No mate, he can't be bothered as he hardly uses the car.

Steering wheel controls, backup camera/sensors not working

  • Add to quote

I have ‘21 Pacifica Touring L which has worked great since purchasing it (July ‘21) but out of the blue a bunch of issues have cropped up. The steering wheel controls for volume up down and changing tracks has stopped working out of the blue. The cruise control controls still work properly fortunately but everything else is useless. It seems to have coincided with the backup camera and rear parking sensors not working properly. The backup camera shows the image but the guide lines no longer exist on the screen and the rear proximity sensors are not making noise when backing up. This is on top of the tailgate recall that still needs to be done. I have factory reset the Uconnect system and disconnected the battery for a time but nothing has helped. I tried to schedule an appointment to drop it off at a local dealership here in Utah and they basically told me I could drop it off but they don’t know when they could get to it and it may be days before a tech can even look at it. I asked for a car to drive in the meantime since this is my wife’s daily driver and has the typical daily driving duties with four kids everyday. They told me they couldn’t do anything for me and that Chrysler corporate would have to do something. I should mention I have had work here done in the past on our last Pacifica and they gave us a car when it was in the shop for three days. I told the woman I don’t need to bring it in immediately but if I bring it in after the first of the year sometime can I have a tech look at it the same day which she wouldn’t promise. She basically told me (not verbatim) bring it in and we will get to it whenever we can. I understand there are all sorts of supply chain/staffing issues going on right now and try to be as understanding as possible since I am a small business owner myself but how can a business/franchise let alone a big corporate brand operate like this? I have a car that has issues that have cropped up in under 5,000 miles and they are more or less doing the least amount possible to help. I don’t need it fixed immediately. But if I have to leave my defective car for more than a day I am of the opinion that the manufacturer that is covering this car under warranty should provide another means of transportation. I don’t know. Maybe I’m off base here but I just wanted to see if anyone else has had these issues and basically to vent for a moments time. Any thoughts? /rantover

Bad wheel , clock spring possibly

I think the dealer's service writer is being overwhelmed. Try to simplify the number of issues you're bringing to them. First, the loss of guidelines in the backup camera view, and the silencing of the rear parking sensors, are controlled by Settings in UConnect. These may have gotten turned off by accident, or when changing profiles, or in an update that came in over the air. Go to the Settings menu of UConnect and investigate how they are set. Next, it's possible one of the volume or track control buttons on the steering wheel is just "stuck" down, and that would disable all of them. So carefully operate each of them (including the middle button between the up and down buttons) and see if you feel the click as they are pressed, and released. If one was stuck, it may still take a reset of UConnect to fix things. If none of this is successful, try to find a different route to engage the dealer. Can you go online or use email instead of calling, and write a very concise list of issues to be addressed? Or maybe another dealer?

chrysler voyager parking sensors problems

This is happening to my 2019 Pacifica exactly. It started after a trip to the car wash. I’m positive it’s water in a harness but the dealer has replaced a few items already with no luck. It clears up on a warm day (likely evaporates away and then comes back when it cools off).

chrysler voyager parking sensors problems

Same here exactly only have 18k miles on it ‘21 what is it????

chrysler voyager parking sensors problems

Has anyone had their issues resolved? I am experiencing the same issues on my 2018 Pacifica. I had a wiring harness added to my hitch and that seems to be the start of all my issues. Steering wheel buttons do not work except for the cruise control. My backup camera no longer displays the guide lines.

Yes the rear camera connections are corroded the dealer replaced the camera and everything works now!

AUTO HEADLIGHT PROBLEMS IN 4th GEN (DIESEL)

headlight sensor

www.chryslerminivan.net

Thank you. I already have all the wiring. The weird thing is not to have the auto headlights feature even if I have 13 way connector for the switch and same plug for the mirror as well.

chrysler voyager parking sensors problems

I know the circuitry involved extensively on the third gen, which may be similar. The sensor for the auto headlights is located in the rear view mirror on the third gen. It's a 6 pin connector on the auto dimming mirror. Positive, negative, reverse switch on transmission, signal to auto headlights, positive to dimming driver mirror, negative to driver dimming mirror.

I added auto headlights to my 2004 van last year. Like you I picked up the auto headlight switch and mirror at my local pick and pull. I installed the headlight switch (didn't need to make any changes to the switch connector), then I made the necessary connections from the mirror wiring to the EVIC connector. The autoheadlights then worked w/o having to make any changes to the BCM (the BCM will automatically learn that the van now has the autolight feature).

AUTOMATIC HEADLAMP SYSTEM Automatic headlamps are controlled by the Body Control Module (BCM). With the headlamp switch in the AUTO position, the BCM will control the headlamp, parking, side marker, tail and instrumentation lamps based on ambient light levels. Ambient light levels are monitored by the BCM using the Day/ Night signal and Electrochromatic Mirror (ECM) present from the Compass Mini Trip (CMTC) located on the front windshield in front of the rear view mirror (ECM). Ambient light readings are averaged to limit cycling the lamps ON and OFF when passing through areas with varying light levels. The automatic headlamps will only function when the engine is running with RPM > 450. When the headlamp switch is in the AUTO position (Automatic mode), the Headlamp Time Delay system will function when the ignition switch is placed in any position other than run/start. Click to expand...
AUTOMATIC DAY / NIGHT MIRROR DESCRIPTION An automatic dimming inside day/night rear view mirror and an automatic dimming driver side outside rear view mirror are available factory-installed options on this model. Following is a general description of this optional equipment. The automatic day/night mirror is able to automatically change its reflectance. A thin layer of electrochromic material between two pieces of conductive glass make up the face of the mirror. Two photocell sensors are used to monitor light levels and adjust the reflectance of the mirror to reduce the glare of headlamps approaching the vehicle from the rear. For removal procedures, (Refer to 23 - BODY/INTERIOR/REAR VIEW MIRROR - REMOVAL). OPERATION The ambient photocell sensor faces forward, to detect the outside light levels. A second sensor faces rearward to detect the light level received through the vehicles back window. When the difference between the two light levels becomes too great (the light level received at the rear of the mirror is much higher than that at the front of the mirror), the mirror begins to darken. The mirror switch allows the driver a manual control of whether the automatic dimming feature is operational. When AUTO is selected a small LightEmitting Diode (LED), to the right of the mirror switch, is illuminated. The automatic dimming feature will only operate when the ignition switch is in the On position. The mirror also senses the backup lamp circuit, and will automatically disable its selfdimming feature whenever the transmission gear selector is in the Reverse position. The driver side automatic dimming mirror is standard with the automatic dimming inside mirror. The signal to control the dimming of that mirror is generated by the automatic day/night inside rear view mirror circuitry. That signal is then delivered to the driver side outside rear view mirror on a hard wired circuit. The automatic day/night mirror cannot be repaired. If faulty or damaged, the entire inside rear view mirror assembly must be replaced. Click to expand...

Thank you so much for this reply with full of very useful and helpful information, Special Eddy... I checked the VIN, and saw many "5"s in. It conforms that I have premium, RG 53 H, euro version with 2.8L 4 cyl turbo diesel engine. As a double check, I have power doors and power liftgate as well as EVIC. So, I will do my best in the retrofit of the auto headlights by removing the overhead console firstly to see the connector and the relevant cables if they are already there. They were all there in my previous 2001 AWD van with 3.3L, 6 cyl petrol engine. I'll keep you posted, if I can make progress or not on that...

Does the cable from the auto dim mirror that runs to the...
