The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Castries, St Lucia Island. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

Castries is a major port and the capital city of Saint Lucia Island - a Commonwealth country in Eastern Caribbean Sea, part of Lesser Antilles (archipelago). The island is located northeast of St Vincent island , northwest of Barbados and south of Martinique . The island has land area approx 617 km2 (238 mi2) and total population around 180,000. Castries has population around 70,000.

In August 2023, GPH/Global Ports Holding signed a 30-year concession deal to manage all cruise operations of Port Castries (locode LCCAS) along with all other destinations in the country. The deal included GPH to make investments in the port facilities' upgrades as well as the expansion of Point Seraphine's berth to be able to handle the largest cruise vessels . GPH's investments also included retail shopping at cruise port Castries (Vendor's Arcade redevelopment) and building a Fishermen's Village (at Bananes Bay).

The French were the first European settlers on the island. In 1660 they signed a treaty with the native Carib Indians. In the period 1663-1667, the island was ruled by England. In the ensuing years, Britain and France engaged in wars 14 times over St Lucia, ruling over it 7 times each. The British took definitive control of Saint Lucia in 1814. Currently, St Lucia is a parliamentary monarchy and an independent (from UK) state since 1979. The country's legal system is based on both British common law and civil law.

Castries is St Lucia's capital and biggest city, covering an area of 80 km2 (31 mi2), most of which is reclaimed land. The town was designed in a grid pattern. Port Castries Harbour can handle most types of vessels, including large cargo ships (bulk carriers, boxships ), ferries and cruise liners. Yachts may also dock, but as all other vessels, they must first clear customs. When the customs marine area is full, boats first anchor and wait at the Port's quarantine dock, then can anchor in the town or Vigie Creek Bay.

In 2017, the cruise port reported a 19,4% increase (over 2016) in passenger shipping traffic.

Other (tender) ports on St Lucia Island are Rodney Bay - Pigeon island (northernmost), Soufriere (central-west) and Vieux Fort (south). In October 2019, Carnival Corporation and RCCL-Royal Caribbean signed with the St Lucia's Government a long-term concession deal for a joint venture company to manage and operate Port Castries' cruise terminal and also to construct and operate the new cruise port Vieux Fort. The new facility will have capacity to handle even the world's biggest cruise ships .

The city is served by George Charles Airport (aka Vigie Airport). Longer international flights arrive at the island's second international airport Hewanorra Airport (Vieux Fort), with drive time to Castries ~1,5 hours. Optional helicopter service between both airports is also available. Vigie Airport is just 2 km (1 mi) north of Castries Town and has annual passenger traffic ~400,000. The airport serves Air Antilles, Air Caraibes, Air Sunshine, Caribbean Airlines, InterCaribbean Airways, and LIAT (Leeward Islands Air Transport). Regularly scheduled flights connect Castries with Martinique ( Fort-de-France ) Guadeloupe ( Pointe-a-Pitre ), Dominica ( Marigot ), St Croix ( Christiansted ), Trinidad ( Port of Spain ), BVI ( Tortola ), Antigua ( St Johns ), Barbados , Grenadines ( St Vincent ).

Regularly scheduled ferries connect Castries with Fort-de-France (Martinique) Best-known tourist attractions and landmarks include Derek Walcott Square, City Library, Government House, Fort Charlotte, large beaches (Vigie, Malabar, Choc, La Toc).

In October 2019 was officially opened Glittering Sands - a new tourist attraction at L'Oranger Bay (Anse La Raye Beach) located at ~20-min drive from Port Castries. The complex is managed by Carvalho's Cruise Services Ltd (travel agency) and offers as amenities beach chairs and umbrellas, restrooms, showers, storage lockers, bar-restaurant. Glittering Sands offers as activities like snorkeling, seakayaking, sail boating, river rafting, hiking (along the waterfalls).

One of the newest St Lucia island cruise shore excursions is riding big-wheel electric scooters along the scenic coastline. The biking tours visit Rodney Bay Marina and also Pigeon Island.

Castries cruise terminal

Cruise ships to Saint Lucia Island dock at Castries - port town on the northwestern coast. Before entering the cruise port, vessels must be first cleared by St Lucia's Airport Traffic Control Tower. This is required as the approaching liner blocks aerodrome's runway. All passenger ships dock at Pointe Seraphine, located to the north of Castries Harbour.

Even world's largest passenger liners can be berthed in Port Castries. From the seaport, downtown is at ~15-min walking distance. Know that taxi rates are controlled by country's government and are fairly expensive.

In January 2018 was completed the Port Castries expansion project. The new "dolphin berth" is located at Pointe Serafine Cruise Terminal. The new facility has capacity to handle larger cruise vessels - two Quantum-class ships berthing simultaneously (on each side of the pier). The first such RCI-Royal Caribbean  ship ( Anthem OTS ) docked here on January 13, 2018. The ship was on a 12-day Caribbean cruise (itinerary Jan 7-19) roundtrip from NYC New York to San Juan (Puerto Rico) ,  Philipsburg (St Maarten) , St Johns (Antigua) , Castries, Bridgetown (Barbados) and Basseterre (St Kitts) . Quantum-class ships have LOA length 348 m (1142 ft) and max capacity 4800 passengers plus 1300 crew.

St Lucia cruise port comprises two main cruise terminals: Pointe Seraphine and La Place Carenage, both located within walking distance from the town center.

Pointe Seraphine cruise ship terminal is located on the northern side of the bay, around 1.7 km/1 mile from Castries downtown. To get into town, you can either walk for 20 minutes or take a 5-10 minute taxi ride.

Pointe Seraphine cruise terminal features a wide range of facilities, such as ATMs, a duty-free shopping complex, tour operator stands, souvenir stores, and a few restaurants and bars offering great food and amazing service. There is a taxi rank in front of the terminal, as well as parking for tour buses.

La Place Carenage cruise terminal is located at the heart of the Castries downtown, in the south of the bay. Historic landmarks, shops, restaurants, parks, and main city attractions including a famous Castries central market are within a short walking distance from the cruise terminal.

You will find all the necessary cruise port facilities in the terminal area. A 10-minute walk from La Place Carenage is the Castries ferry terminal , providing daily ferry transport from St Lucia to the islands of Martinique, Dominica, and Guadeloupe.

In case all the berths are reserved and occupied, a cruise ship may anchor in the bay. In that case, passengers are transferred to La Place Carenage cruise terminal via tender boats.

Gros and Petit Piton in St Lucia cruise port

Climbing the Pitons is one of the most exciting things to do on the island, but it’s not recommended to go hiking without a tour guide. Petit Piton is quite dangerous and requires previous mountaineering experience, while the Gros Piton hike is safer and requires a moderate level of physical activity.

The hike starts at the town of Soufriere and is around 3 km/2 miles long. The trail is rocky and steep in some parts – therefore, you should go with a tour guide as they know the fastest and safest way to get you to the top.

It takes at least a 1 hour 30 min drive to reach the Pitons. In case you don’t want to hike, you can visit the Pitons by bus or a minivan in a small group, or by boat . The bus ride might take up to 1 hour 45 minutes, while the boat ride lasts up to 1 hour. Some boats are large (like ferries), with little shade, so make sure you bring sunscreen and a hat .

Cruising along the coast and the Bay of Soufriere will allow you to admire the mountains from the sea, and if you want to go by bus there are several spots in Soufriere town from where you can capture great shots of the Pitons. You can drive up to the edge of the geothermal springs and see the steam coming out of the Earth, caused by the water in the springs whose temperatures reach up to 340 Fahrenheit (170 Celsius).

The water and soil are blackened due to the chemical reactions between sulfur, iron, copper, and other minerals and metals, and there are many hot pools and fumaroles all around – a truly impressive sight to see!

Sulphur Springs, St Lucia

6. Pigeon Island National Park

After an approximately 25-minute drive (14 km/9 miles) toward the northwest of St. Lucia, you’ll come to Pigeon Island, a 44-acre islet and nature reserve connected to the mainland by a sandy, man-made causeway added in 1972. If you want to simultaneously enjoy the beautiful nature and learn about the history of St Lucia, this place is a must-see!

Wecome to Pigeon Island sign

Throughout history, the place was occupied by the Amerindians, pirates, French and British, mainly due to its favorable strategic position. In the second half of the 18th century, British Admiral George Rodney conquered the island and built Fort Rodney on Signal Hill, the highest peak of the island, from where he could keep an eye on the French naval base of Fort Royal on Martinique.

On top of the hill there are the military ruins and cannons open for visitors, and to get there, you need to take a 15-20-minute hike slightly uphill. It’s totally worth the effort (moderate activity level), as from the hilltop you can admire the exceptional views of the northwest coast of St Lucia and Rodney Bay.

Once you get down to the bay, you can sunbathe at two wonderful beaches of Rodney Bay, visit the Interpretation Center and learn about the history of the island, stroll through the nature reserve, or grab a bite in one of the neighboring local restaurants. St Lucia (Castries) Cruise Terminals and Piers Port Guide and Review (2023)

Discover where cruise ships dock or anchor in Saint Lucia (Castries). Everything you need to know about the cruise terminals in La Place Carenage and Pointe Seraphine.

By: Editor-in-Chief Update: May 30, 2023

The cruise port in St Lucia is located in Castries the main city and capital of the Island Nation. Although most cruise ships dock at one of the two piers/terminals, some large ships may also anchor just outside the bay of Castries.

Most cruise ships of all sizes dock in a small bay by Castries - the capital of St Lucia. There are two main piers (and Terminals) in St Lucia's main cruise port. The Pointe Seraphine on the northern side and the pier at La Place Carenage right downtown - the exit gates literally open to the main street. Very seldom, small ships may also dock at the Industrial Port.

Anchor and Tender

It may also happen that mega-ships like Queen Mary II will anchor outside the bay and passengers are tendered by their own boats to the eastern corner of La Place Carenage.

Services and Amenities

Both piers are serviced by Cruise Port Terminals with all basic amenities - Tourist Information Kiosk, Taxi Dispatch, Tours and Excursions Desk, Restrooms, Cafes, Bars, Car Rentals, Restaurants, the best duty-free shopping in St. Lucia and also souvenir shops and some local crafts.

Alternative Ports - Soufriere

Although Castries is the main cruise port in St. Lucia, some ships may have an additional stop next to Soufriere to pick up passengers on full-day tours to the famous Pitons and other attractions close by.

Some small and luxurious cruise lines like Seadream, Windstar or Seabourn also call at Soufriere - instead of Castries - anchoring and tendering passengers to the old capital of St. Lucia. Both Marigot Bay and Rodney Bay (Pigeon Island) are also alternative anchoring ports of call.

The Cruise Port Terminal at La Place Carenage is ideally located to explore landmarks of Castries such as the Catholic Cathedral, the Derek Walcott Square, the Central Library or the Craft Market which all can be visited in slightly over one hour.

On the ground floor of the Cruise Port Terminal, there are quite a few duty-free shops. Besides the usual ones found almost everywhere in the Caribbean - Diamonds International among others - liquor, spirits, tobacco and souvenir shops do offer some of the best prices in the Caribbean.

The cruise traveler interested in handcrafts and less touristic souvenirs, should walk out of the terminal, turn left and explore the Craft Market - no more than 500 feet (150 meters) away.

Inside the terminal, on the first floor, the cruise traveler will also find the very popular the Caribbean Pirates Restaurant & Bar. Unfortunatelly, it has been closed since the pandemic but there are rummors that it will open soon.

Besides the cuisine of Chef Robbiy, the restaurant has Free Wi-Fi and a wide veranda overlooking the pier. If moored at Point Seraphine Cruise Porte and no ships are docked at La Porte Carenage (which happens quite often) the views of the bay are a wonderful sight - many savvy cruisers (as well as crew and officers) cross the bay on a water taxi to savor truly genuine Saint Lucian flavors al fresco.

Pointe Seraphine Cruise Port Terminal

The Pointe Seraphine Terminal is larger than La Place Carenage. It is also more spacious, with a mix of covered and open air areas and with quite a few enticing attributes for the cruise traveler to relax after a day exploring St. Lucia and before getting back onboard. In fact, many a cruise traveler that has been to St. Lucia before doesn't even leave Pointe Seraphine.

The pier is parallel to the Terminal and as the cruise traveler enters the main building a Tourist Information Desk occupies the center of the main hall with a few duty-free shops around it and very good signs indicating where to go.

From the main hall there are three possible paths. The doors right in front open to a Local Tour Desk, a couple of Car Rentals (National and Guys) and a Diving/Snorkeling Kiosk among other services.

To the right of the port the cruise traveler will find higher end shops (more about shopping below), the exit to town, the parking for tour buses and a taxi dispatch just before the gates that open to the main road.

To the left, there is an open zone lined with small shops (mainly souvenirs and a few crafts) and beyond these, you will find a manicured garden with cafes, bars, grill/restaurant. The following are Editors' favorites: the Rum Therapy Bar & Treatment Centre , the Antillia Brewing Company , and the Pink Papaya Facebook Page .

It is also in this green area that the cruise traveler will find a water-taxi connecting the two piers. This is a relaxing way to cross to downtown or to Pointe Seraphine if docked at La Place Carenage and wishing to explore the other terminal.

Last but not least amongst amenities, Free Wi-Fi Internet is available almost everywhere at the Point Seraphine Cruise Port Terminal. Insider's hint: you will get better connections in the indoors areas.

Walking to Castries

The Cruise Port Terminal in Pointe Seraphine is a 20-minute leisurely walk (under 1 mile) along the waterfront to the center of Castries. Have in mind that it will most probably be hot and that there isn't much shade on the way. Light clothing, sunscreen, hat and comfortable footwear are strongly recommended. You may find a few local vendors along the way but unlike what happens in many a Caribbean island none will be harassing you.

Castries – St. Lucia

Prepare to be enchanted by Castries, the picturesque capital of St. Lucia. Explore the majestic Pitons, take a dip in the crystal-clear waters of Marigot Bay, or embark on a scenic hike through the lush rainforests. Immerse yourself in the vibrant local culture, savor the flavors of traditional Caribbean cuisine, and let the beauty of St. Lucia leave you breathless.

The Island Nation of St. Lucia gained its independence from Britain in 1976 after switching hands between the French and English no less than 14 times since being settled initially by Europeans. Its capital city, Castries, and indeed much of the island, still show this mixed heritage in the architecture and traditions. St. Lucia also boasts the unique distinction of being the only country in the world named after a woman, Saint Lucy of Syracuse.

Sandy beaches, regal palm trees, colorful marine life, and all the iconic Caribbean attractions are part of this island's charm. Trade winds make it an ideal location for watersports like kite-boarding and windsurfing.

Temperatures usually range between 75 and 85 F (24 to 30C) year round.

Shopping In Castries – St. Lucia

The first shopping opportunity that all cruise ship passengers will see is the Pointe Seraphine shopping centre with its many stores and duty-free shopping opportunities.

You’re guaranteed to find something you love at Duty Free Pointe Seraphine. Note: Many shopping locations are closed on Sundays.

Dining In Castries – St. Lucia

Fresh local fruit and vegetables, such as mangoes, bananas, yams, cucumbers, are a staple of St. Lucian menus, which tend to take on a French-Creole flair. You can find any type of cuisine, however, in tourist areas or hotel restaurants.

Fresh seafood is plentiful (lobster season runs from August to March), along with Caribbean dishes like curried goat or chicken and conch.

Fish fries and road-side barbecue stands are plentiful, especially on Friday nights.

St. Lucia’s national dish is made of salted codfish and boiled green banana (referred to as salt fish and green fig), but may be an acquired taste.

Things To Do in Castries – St. Lucia

Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception – Though it is not incredibly ornate on the outside, the colourful murals and stained glass windows inside the church more than make up for the simple exterior.

Beaches, Beaches and More Beaches – There are a number of… you guessed it!…beautiful beaches in the vicinity of Castries, these include Vigie Beach, Malabar Beach, Choc Beach, and La Toc.

A post shared by Saint Lucia Tourist Board (@saintlucianow) on Feb 10, 2017 at 6:08am PST

Derek Walcott Square – A public square and park, it is located in the heart of Historic Castries. Buildings of note surrounding the square include the Castries Public Library and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, both of which warrant a visit. It is central to most activity in the city and a good location to take a moment or find your bearings.

Castries – St. Lucia

Cruise Port Guide Castries – St. Lucia: docked

In Castries you wil find several cruise docks. Most ships will dock at Pointe Seraphine, although Port Castries is also an option. Check with the front desk on board where you ship is scheduled to dock or check ahead of time on the following link: http://www.slaspa.com/contentPages/view/cruise-schedules

Cruise dock Pointe Seraphine

This pier is a short walk from the old city centre of Castries. You will find a tourist information and shopping centre in the cruise terminal at the dock. Taxis are waiting for you outside the terminal.

Cruise dock Port Castries

When Pointe Seraphine cruise dock is taken ships dock at the Port Castries. This dock is on the other side of the harbor (see map above). From here it is about a mile walk to the city centre of Castries. There is a shopping terminal at the dock and taxis.

Taxis in Castries

Alternatively to a shore excursion you can opt for the taxi. The drivers are usually excellent guides. Negotiate the price before stepping into the taxi, but please know they are officially fixed by the government. 3 or 4 hours of sightseeing should cost about 150 US dollar. One way fares range from 35 to 40 US dollars to Marigot Bay and Rodney bay should be about 30 dollars one way. The rates mentioned here are per taxi.

Renting a car

We do not recommend to rent a car in St. Lucia. In our opinion only the most experienced drivers are up to negotiate the windy and chaotic roads of St. Lucia.

Public Transportation in and around Castries

Public Transportation in St. Lucia is present but often crowded and unreliable. The minivans and jitneys depart from Jeremy street (see map above for exact location). These busses go in the direction of Cap Estate. At Bridge street you will find the busses leaving for Vieux Fort and Soufriere. Do not take the public transportation unless time is on your side and you are up for the ride.

Vigil beach is the closest beach to the cruise terminal. About 2 km north of Pointe Seraphine and 3 km north of the Port of Castries. Therefore you could walk it, but we still recommend a taxi. There are also far better beaches a little further afield. You can take a taxi one of the following popular beaches in the area:

Reduit Beach – 10 km north

Pigeon island – 14 km north

Marigot beach – 13 km south

Castries St. Lucia Port Guide

A Caribbean cruise to Castries, St. Lucia offers a different side of the Caribbean than you’ve ever seen before. Castries itself is the capital of St. Lucia, and a walkable, bustling town. Head to Derek Walcott Square to relax after exploring the town, and don’t miss the historic cathedrals in the heart of the city. Of course, you have to try traditional St. Lucian food, including saltfish and green banana, the region’s signature dish.

St. Lucia itself is sprawling and mountainous, protected yet easily explorable. Downtown Castries can certainly take up your day in port, but you could also venture further inland for thrills and outdoor adventures, like hiking one of the volcanic Pitons, a spire-like mountain promising incredible views of St. Lucia from the summit. Take a mud bath at Sulphur Spring Park, or simply swim and snorkel at Pigeon Island National Park or the beautiful Reduit Beach.

Top sights & attractions for cruises to castries, pigeon island national park.

Connected to the island of St. Lucia by a causeway built in the 1970s, Pigeon Island National Park is a perfect day trip while on your Castries cruise. Pigeon Island is a mish-mash of historic landmarks juxtaposed with the tranquility of a Caribbean island. Snorkeling and diving the clear waters are must-do activities on Pigeon Island, but so are tours of the museum and military ruins within the park.

Sulphur Spring Park

Head south by car, and in a little over an hour you’ll be at Sulphur Springs, where you can drive right past an active volcano. They call it the “drive-in volcano,” and it’s one of the most unique sites in St. Lucia. Bathe in the warm sulfuric pools—also called mud baths—while you’re there, which supposedly have healing and relaxing properties.

Derek Walcott Square

This small park in the center of Castries is a historic square honoring Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott. Watch as people go by from one of the shaded benches, resting up before or after your shopping trip at Castries Market. Check out the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception nearby.

Sugar Beach

Nestled right between the two Pitons outside of Soufriere is Sugar Beach, which is a luxurious Viceroy resort area, but also boasts some of the best views of any of the beaches on the island. Lounging is freely available to the public; you don’t have to be staying at the resort to enjoy the imported sandy beach. After exploring a bit, have lunch or dinner at the resort’s restaurant.

Learn More About Castries Shore Excursions

Top things to do in castries, head west to soufriere.

On a cruise to Castries, It’s an hour’s southbound drive to Soufriere, which is where most excursions will take you to get to the massive Pitons nearby. Once the capital city of the island, today a visit to Soufriere is one of the best ways to understand the island’s history. Head to Diamond Falls Botanical Garden to surround yourself with the area’s tropical plant life, or bathe in the thermal springs at Sulphur Springs Park.

Climb the Pitons

For an unforgettable hike in St. Lucia, your best bet is to climb one of the two Pitons. The Pitons are two pyramid-like mountains with volcanic properties. They’re also a UNESCO World Heritage site as of 2004. Your views of the rest of St. Lucia will be unmatched from the top of a Piton, and the four-hour hike is a genuine challenge for outdoors enthusiasts.

Swim at Reduit Beach

On your way to Pigeon Island, get your fix of swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving at Reduit Beach, which is only a 20 minute drive north from Castries just past Rodney Bay. You’ll find beach bars and standard fare just beyond the beach. Take the kids to Splash Island for water activities and a playground including monkey bars and slides.

Top Food and Drink Spots Near the Castries Cruise Port

Restaurants in St. Lucia are a blend of Creole and Caribbean influence, and the coastal setting means lots of fresh catches rule the menus. The local delicacy is saltfish and green banana (called figs in St. Lucia). Plantains and coconuts feature heavily in St. Lucian dishes, too.

Spinnaker’s Beach Bar & Grill

Address: Reduit Beach, Rodney Bay, St. Lucia

While you enjoy Reduit Beach, take a walk to Spinnaker’s for the quintessential beach bar experience in St. Lucia. They serve American and Caribbean food, with classic bar foods like hot wings, deep fried calamari, catch-of-the-day mains, pan-fried mahi mahi, and burgers. Their bar is also famous for its rum punch and a variety of martinis.

Dasheene Restaurant & Bar

Address: Jalousie, St. Lucia

This resort restaurant overlooks the two Pitons, so a seat outside offers the best views. Dasheene places their focus on lobster, offering everything from grilled lobster to lobster pasta and bisque. They also serve tuna sandwiches featuring local tuna, as well as jerk chicken sandwiches and other classics.

Pink Plantation House

Address: The Morne Fortune | Chef Harry Drive, Castries, St. Lucia

Dishes have a Caribbean and Creole influence, from salted codfish to shrimp and coconut sauce, curried lamb or simple sauteed vegetables.

Culture & History of the Castries Cruise Port

Indigenous Arawaks and then the Carib were the first to inhabit this part of the world, and remained undisturbed here until European colonization efforts began in the early 17th century. Indigenous peoples called St. Lucia “Island of the iguana” for its massive iguana population. Both the British and French laid claim to the island, and the territory passed hands a dozen or so times in the course of two centuries. British and French influence on the area is still evident today from the architecture to the languages spoken. Eventually, the British took control of St. Lucia in 1814. Eventually, in the mid-20th century, St. Lucia received independence from Great Britain.

Today, English, French, and African influence heavily shaped the island. English is the first language of St. Lucia, but while on a cruise to Castries you can expect hearing mostly a French-based creole. St. Lucia also celebrates its culture during various festivals throughout the year, like the St. Lucia Jazz Festival in May, and a celebration called Creole Day each October which celebrates Creole food, culture, and customs.

Castries Port Facilities & Location

Your ship will dock in one of two places: Pointe Seraphine or La Place Carenage in the center of Castries. If you dock at Pointe Seraphine, you can take a water taxi into the city center, or stretch your legs with a 20 minute walk there. Arrange a private car in advance if you can, and taxi drivers are almost always willing to arrange a tour with you where you can get picked up and dropped off at multiple sights on your Castries cruise.

Transportation in Castries

Taxi and group excursions are the two best ways to see sights beyond the center of Castries. Walking around the city center is common for cruise passengers who wish to stay in Castries during their stop in St. Lucia. Coordinate a multi-stop tour with a taxi driver, but agree on a fare before leaving. Boat rides are also a popular method to getting to Soufriere, and are quicker than taking the route via car. On a cruise to Castries, car rentals are available too for those who would like to drive to the winding roads of St. Lucia.

Shopping Near the Castries Cruise Port

Fans of open air markets will find plenty to see at Castries Market, where over 300 vendors sell their goods every day but Sunday. Saturdays are the busiest day to visit the market. The Castries Market is known for its variety of spices for sale, and the place to stock up on locally sourced spices like nutmeg, cinnamon, and cocoa. Pointe Seraphine, one of the places where your Castries cruise ship may be docked, is home to duty-free shopping where you can purchase art, gifts, and souvenirs very conveniently near the terminal.

Local Currency & Tipping Customs

Saint Lucia uses the East Caribbean dollar, and local ATMs will spit out this currency when you withdraw funds. U.S. dollars are generally accepted at most establishments, but it’s always good to ask. The fixed exchange rate is that $1 USD is equal to $2.70 East Caribbean dollars. You’ll receive East Caribbean currency back whenever you need change. In terms of tipping, be sure to leave a small tip for a tour guide or taxi driver. In St. Lucia, a 10% service charge is usually already included in your bill at restaurants, and you can choose how much to tip additionally from there.

St. Lucia cruise port

Cruise port info, dock or tender port, distance from port to, need to know, castries, st. lucia – your cruise port guide.

In Castries, St. Lucia, you’ll discover several cruise docks to enhance your Caribbean adventure. Most ships gracefully berth at Pointe Seraphine, while Port Castries offers an equally enticing option. To ensure you’re in the know about your ship’s docking location, kindly consult your ship’s front desk during your voyage or plan ahead by visiting the following link:  Cruise Schedules .

Cruise dock: Pointe Seraphine

Pointe Seraphine pier is conveniently nestled just a short walk away from Castries’ charming old city center. Here at the cruise terminal, you’ll find a dedicated hub for tourists and shoppers alike. As you disembark, friendly taxis await just outside the terminal, ready to whisk you away to your chosen adventure.

Cruise dock: Port Castries

In the event that Pointe Seraphine is occupied by other ships, your vessel may dock at Port Castries, located on the opposite side of the harbor (refer to the map above for clarification). From here, it’s roughly a mile’s walk to the heart of Castries. Fear not, as there’s a bustling shopping terminal at the dock, and taxis are readily available to ensure your convenience.

Transportation options in Castries cruise port

  • Taxis:  For a personalized shore excursion experience, consider opting for a taxi. Local drivers often double as excellent guides, and though prices are fixed by the government, it’s wise to negotiate the fare beforehand. Expect to pay around $150 USD for a 3- to 4-hour sightseeing tour. One-way fares range from $35 to $40 USD to Marigot Bay and approximately $30 USD to Rodney Bay.
  • Renting a Car:  Navigating St. Lucia’s winding and occasionally chaotic roads is not recommended for all but the most experienced drivers. It’s generally best to explore the island using alternative transportation.
  • Public Transportation:  While public transportation is available, it’s often crowded and unreliable. Minivans and jitneys departing from Jeremy Street (refer to the map above) head in the direction of Cap Estate. For routes to Vieux Fort and Soufriere, head to Bridge Street. Keep in mind that public transportation may require extra time and patience.

Discover St. Lucia’s Stunning Beaches

While Vigil Beach is the closest to the cruise terminal, located approximately 2 km north of Pointe Seraphine and 3 km north of the Port of Castries, we recommend a taxi for a more comfortable journey. Even more beautiful beaches await a short drive away. Consider a taxi ride to these popular destinations:

  • Reduit Beach:  Located 10 km north.
  • Pigeon Island:  A scenic 14 km drive to the north.
  • Marigot Beach:  Situated 13 km to the south.

Uncover more about the area’s attractions and activities by referring to the map below. Your St. Lucia adventure is poised to be nothing short of spectacular!
