Once you enter Kakariko Village , you'll find it a busy place. A construction project is under way. Up the hill to your left is the gate to Death Mountain Trail , and to the right of the windmill is the path to the Kakariko Village graveyard .

The fourth cucco is near the entrance to Kakariko Village, and the fifth is in a crate near the steps that are left of the village entrance. Roll into the crate to smash it and grab the cucco inside. Keep the cucco with you and go up the stairs by the graveyard entrance where the carpenter jogs.

dampe gravedigging tour map

With the cucco in hand, jump off the ledge diagonally towards the rust colored house with the small fence in front of it - this is how you circumvent the tall gate. After landing, throw the cucco back over the fence to the area you came in from. There is a secret hole in this area which leads to a chest with Rupees inside if you need them, otherwise toss the sixth cucco running around here over the fence like before, then climb the tall ladder to collect the seventh and last cucco. Grab him, glide down, throw him in the pen, then round up the two cuccos you threw over the fence.

dampe gravedigging tour map

There is one important thing you should remember about cuccos: never attack them. If you strike one enough times, it will call its buddies and they will swarm on you! If that happens, run for your life!

Kakariko Village graveyard [ edit | edit source ]

dampe gravedigging tour map

From Kakariko village proper, you can enter the graveyard through the opening to the right of the windmill. In the graveyard, there are many graves, some which hold strange secrets. If you look far back to the end of the graveyard, you'll see an unreachable entrance that seems peculiar. This place will be a later part in your quest, and you'll learn a song to reach this mysterious area behind all the graves.

dampe gravedigging tour map

If you go up to the tombs in the far back, a storm will occur. The graves beside the large tomb are the ones of the Composer Brothers Sharp the Elder and Flat the Younger. Reading their graves will summon them, and they will attack you! Defeat them to hear their stories about studying a song that can control day and night.

Tingle’s Maps: Kakariko Graveyard (Ocarina of Time)

dampe gravedigging tour map

As the sun begins to rise above the blades of an ancient windmill, the Cucco’s greet the day with a crow and cluck while the locals prepare to start another day just the same as the day before. With a cozy yet humble feel, Kakariko Village seems like a perfect corner of Hyrule’s map, but every corner has its shadows, and nestled in the far east of the quaint village, under a stone archway, is the Kakariko Graveyard.

Replacing the busy Cucco chirps with the hoarse caws of a crow, Kakariko Graveyard has an eerie and unnerving atmosphere that feels as though it has been taken right out of a piece by Edgar Allen Poe. Home to the fallen souls of Hyruleans, the Hylian Royal Family, and Sheikah tribe members, the area is naturally filled with many tombstones, some of which can be pulled back to reveal secrets, treasure, and Poes (so long as Graveyard Boy isn’t around during the day).

dampe gravedigging tour map

Kakariko Graveyard is home to one living Hylian named Dampé. He sleeps during the day and patrols at night as a Gravekeeper, offering a “Heart-pounding Gravedigging Tour” to those who dare venture into the site after dusk. When Link awakens as an adult, it becomes apparent that Dampé has passed to the other side and is awaiting someone to come and find him in his grave to obtain a special item. Found in the north side of the graveyard, Dampé’s grave is marked with fresh flowers, and beneath the ground Link finds Dampé’s spirit, who challenges him to a race through the tomb. When Link succeeds, Dampé gifts him with a Hookshot.

dampe gravedigging tour map

At the back of the graveyard lies the Royal Family’s Tomb, where Link can learn the Sun’s Song from the spirits of the Composer Brothers, Flat and Sharp. Situated above the gravestone of the Composer Brothers is a ledge that can only be reached by playing the song “Nocturne of Shadow.” It is here where Link can find the entrance to one of the darkest and scariest dungeons, the Shadow Temple.

Dampé is a recurring character in The Legend of Zelda series . Appearing in six games, he is the gravekeeper and caretaker of the Graveyard in each respective game, except for the remake of Link's Awakening , where he provides access to the Chamber Dungeons .

  • 1 Ocarina of Time
  • 2 Majora's Mask
  • 3 Four Swords Adventures
  • 4 The Minish Cap
  • 5 A Link Between Worlds
  • 6 Link's Awakening (Switch)
  • 7.1 Cadence of Hyrule
  • 9 References

In Ocarina of Time , Dampé is the gravekeeper of the Kakariko Village Graveyard . During Link 's childhood, Dampé can be found patrolling the graveyard at night and starts his own Gravedigging Tour , upon request for 10 Rupees , digging up anything from Rupees to a Heart Piece that Link can pick up. [3] The items that he digs up appear randomly. During the day, he is at his shack sleeping, and if Link tries to interact with him, he will tell the young hero to go away. [4]

If Link enters Dampé's house at night while he is gravedigging, Link can read Dampé's diary, where he writes that he found a treasure that "stretches and goes 'boing'". The diary can also be found when Link is an adult, but what's written in it will differ, telling Link to enter Dampé's grave and that he will let Link have his treasure.

Sometime during Link's seven year slumber, Dampé dies and becomes a ghost. When Link digs up his grave, he can find Dampé's ghost in a maze beneath the grave . Dampé challenges Link to a race, and if Link wins, Dampé will allow him to take his treasure, the Hookshot . [5] [6] Playing again and winning in under a minute earns Link a Piece of Heart .

Majora's Mask

In Majora's Mask , Dampé is the gravekeeper of the Ikana Graveyard , which is a haunted graveyard, yet he is afraid of ghosts. On the Final Day , Link can find Dampé Beneath the Graveyard , where he admits to be searching for the Ikana Royal Family's treasure. However, he lost his lantern and cannot see. He, in turn, asks Link to guide him using the light of his fairy, Tatl . [7] Leading him to the Soft Soil spots causes him to dig there. [8] After he has dug up three Blue Flames, a Big Poe appears. Since Dampé is afraid of ghosts, he runs away to his house, and if Link defeats the Poe, he will be rewarded with a chest that contains an Empty Bottle . [9]

Four Swords Adventures

FSA-Dampe.png

Dampé is the only human inhabitant of The Swamp in Four Swords Adventures , where he lives by himself in a house in the northwest of the graveyard. However, his house is surrounded by many Giant Ghinis that prevent the Links from entering. In order to enter Dampé's home, the Links must stand on four separate switches to light up the torches, defeating the Giant Ghinis.

When the Links enter his house, Dampé warns them that it is dangerous outside, so the Links shouldn't be wondering around the graveyard. Recently, a shadowy guy has been stirring up trouble recently who looks just like the Links. Dampé tells them his name and explains he is supposed to be the caretaker of the graveyard, but he cannot take care of anything right now and is helpless as the creatures that have overrun the area are pleased and treat Hyrule like their new home.

Dampé then demands the Links to listen to a legend. According to the legend, a Dark Tribe were sealed away into a mirror long ago in which the mirror is supposed to be somewhere in the Forest of Light . However, the forest has been covered by pitch-black clouds recently, being a Forest of Dark now. Dampé thinks something bad is certainly happening at the forest. [10]

During the credits of the game, Dampé can be seen walking outside in the peaceful graveyard when the Green Shrine Maiden flies through The Swamp.

Dampé-House-TMC.png

Like in Four Swords Adventures , Dampé is the only living inhabitant in the Royal Valley where he is the gravedigger at the cemetery there. [11] It is said that he has the power to speak with the dead. As a result of this, he fuses the Kinstones he digs up with the local ghosts. [12] When Link first talks to Dampé, he introduces himself and explains that he is the gravedigger. Dampé proceeds to ask him about what Link mentioned about being called to the Royal Valley by the ghost of a king . He informs Link that the ghost is an ancient king of Hyrule who rests there and explains that he has also seen the ghost. As a result of thinking how the king has called Link, Dampé cannot see any reason not to let him in, giving Link the Graveyard Key . [13]

Once Link leaves Dampé's house and gets the Graveyard Key stolen by a crow , Dampé can be found at the gate to the rest of the Royal Valley. When talked to, Dampé asks Link if a crow took the key and flew off into a tree. He then yells for him not to just stand around as the crow will get away. Dampé urges Link to charge at the tree if Link wants the key back. [14] After Link has reacquired the Graveyard Key from the crow, Dampé tells him that he will open the gate for Link and advices for him to be careful in there. [15]

If Link talks to Dampé after he opens the gate, he will give directions of left, left, left, up, up, and up, but he forgets the last turn, [16] turning out to be directions for a secret path to the Lost Woods -like forest in the Royal Valley that leads to 200 Mysterious Shells or 100 Rupees if he has collected every figurine .

After Link has completed the Royal Crypt , he is able to fuse Kinstones with Dampé. Link can perform Kinstone fusion by fusing a blue Kinstone with Dampé, opening Gina 's grave in the Royal Valley that leads to more Kinstone fusions and 100 Mystery Shells. Once he has fused Kinstones with Dampé once, Link is able to come back and fuse again. However, Link needs to fuse a Green Kinstone with Dampé this time, and when he performs the Kinstone fusion, a crack forms in the ground in Wind Ruins that leads to a chest containing a red Kinstone piece.

In A Link Between Worlds , Dampé once again appears as the Gravedigger. He cares for the Graveyard found east of the Sanctuary . Despite his looks, Dampé is a kind-hearted person that cares for the Priest 's daughter, Seres . Link first encounters Dampé in front of the Sanctuary, just before Yuga makes his first appearance in Hyrule .

Link's Awakening (Switch)

In the Switch remake of Link's Awakening , Dampé's Shack serves as the way to access the Chamber Dungeons . These are customizable dungeons which can be created using rooms from previously explored dungeons. Dampé presents Link with an array of challenges involving the arrangement of rooms, each with different rewards.

In Ocarina of Time, Dampé is the gravekeeper of the Kakariko Village Graveyard. During Link 's childhood, Dampé can be found patrolling the graveyard at night and starts his own Gravedigging Tour, upon request for 10 Rupees, digging up anything from Rupees to a Heart Piece that Link can pick up. [3] The items that he digs up appear randomly.
