Is there a chance of getting a purple rupee before Dampe digs the heart piece?

The goal of this Interactive World Map for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is to provide a visual guide or table of contents to most of the useful internal game data that we're aware of. Using this data, the hope is that runners and perhaps just Ocarina of Time enthusiasts will have better access to the technical information about the game.

Building on the backs of the many talented contributors to these data sources, this map should hopefully make their work accessible to a much wider audience.

This project wouldn't be possible without the amazing resources provided by the various Ocarina of Time hackers out there:

Through his quest, Link will have the opportunity to participate in a number of minigames . Although none of them are mandatory to complete, they often have rewards that are well worth obtaining. Many minigames can be completed multiple times, but after each special prize is obtained, the reward will usually be rupees. Detailed strategies and relevant maps will be provided for some of the more complex minigames.

The Sinking Lure [ edit ]

dampe gravedigging tour map

At any time as a child or adult after claiming prizes, it is possible to find the secret, illegal sinking lure somewhere in the pond. It is most commonly found in the grass along the wall of the pond, but is sometimes hidden by the rocks near the stream or on the log in the pond. With the sinking lure, it is much easier to catch any fish, including the mysterious Hylian Loach.

Please note that the fisherman will not let you claim any prizes if you use the sinking lure because it is against the pond rules, and any fish displayed in the fishtank caught with the sinking lure will include the disclaimer, "With illegal sinking lure." After finding the sinking lure, however, if you talk to the fisherman he will eventually make the sinking lure legal for you to use.

The Hylian Loach [ edit ]

dampe gravedigging tour map

If you catch the Hylian Loach, the fisherman says: " Well, well... WOW! What a rare fish! This is a Hylian Loach! For this fish, size doesn't matter. I'll give you this prize! Recently, the number of these fish has decreased tremendously, so I'm going to release this one. "

Oddities [ edit ]

As adult Link, it is possible to hook the fisherman's hat with your lure. He will then add a new rule: "No aiming at people." He will get mad at you and ask you to return it. If you cast his hat back into the pond, he will charge you a 50 rupee fine for it.

Glitches [ edit ]

dampe gravedigging tour map

When you steal the fisherman's hat he will make you pay 50 rupees. This is avoidable, when the fisherman screams "WHAAAAT" after you lose his hat, run to the door and do not continue the conversation, he will then forget about the hat and tell you not to leave without the fishing pole.

Horseback Archery [ edit ]

dampe gravedigging tour map

If you play, you get twenty arrows with which to score as many points possible while Epona follows a set course. Epona first passes a row of seven pots, with three large targets on the wall behind, then rounds a large target at the end before passing by the row of pots again, towards a final target on the opposite end of the course. On the first pass, it is advisable to aim for the pots (100 points) first, and then try to score at least two bulls eyes on the far target. When coming back, score as many points as possible on the targets on the wall, before shooting at the final target. It is easy to accomplish both of these goals with a little practice. The most successful way of doing this is that if you have arrows remaining near the end, you can use all the arrows to try to hit the bulls eyes on the final target.

Bombchu Bowling [ edit ]

dampe gravedigging tour map

First Level : In the first level there is only one obstacle, a spike trap sliding back and forth, and the target is relatively close.

Second Level : In the second level an additional obstacle is added—a small Cucco. The Cucco waddles left and right and occasionally stops for a moment. If the Cucco is hit, it will stand still in shock for 5 seconds, obstructing further shots.

Third Level : The third and final level includes a large Cucco in addition to the other obstacles. Careful timing is needed to win a prize. As with the other Cucco, it stands still when hit. Wait until the big Cucco is facing you right in the middle and the little one on the far right is facing the right wall.

Alternate strategy : If you angle the bomchu towards the wall the right way you should be able to avoid the spike trap and both Cuccos completely, this may take a bit of practice, but it should pay off.

Gravediggin Tour Heart Piece?

The legend of zelda: ocarina of time, nintendo 64, the legend of zelda: ocarina of time (nintendo 64).

  • Where should I ask Dampe to dig at the graveyard to get the heart piece? tincho_X4 - 15 years ago - report

Accepted Answer

  • It's in one of the locations marked by a dirt square patch. You will not find the heart piece in any brick part of the pathway. Which dirt patch it's in is random. You can get it your first time, or you can empty the Giant's Wallet by digging and still not have it. It's best to Z-Target Dampe and wait to talk to him until he's on the edge of the square in front of the one you want to dig. He digs about 2/3 of a space in front of his feet, but as long as you land the shovel in the dirt patch then it counts. NintendoBoy259 - 15 years ago - report 11   7

Bombers’ Notebook: Dampé (Ocarina of Time)

dampe gravedigging tour map

Whenever the sun sets on Hyrule, the vibrant, bustling kingdom morphs into a spooky, shadowy landscape, where skeletons rise up from the ground and bats swoop down on unsuspecting victims. And in the dead of night, dark secrets emerge from the depths of even the most innocent locations. Kakariko Village from Ocarina of Time , despite being a humble little town full of kind, hardworking people, has a number of frightening secrets hidden just out of sight, like the Shadow Temple and the Well that is home to the Dead Hand.

But aside from these chilling horrors, there is another lumbering secret tucked away in Kakariko Graveyard that can only be discovered after dark. And that is the lovable gravekeeper known as Dampé.

Despite what my childhood self might tell you, Dampé is not a monster. He is just the elderly gravekeeper of Kakariko Village, tasked with keeping the gravestones clean and preventing hooligans from vandalizing the place. Fans of the Zelda series may have noticed that Dampé shows up in multiple games, but his iteration in Ocarina of Time holds a special place in my heart.

dampe gravedigging tour map

For starters, even though Dampé may look intimidating, he’s actually quite sweet. His original low-poly model was sort of terrifying to me as a kid, but his gentle personality eventually won me over. He sincerely cares about the work he does, and he clearly loves to have fun, offering to play a game with kids who visit the graveyard at night (for a small fee, of course). The game, known as the Heart-Pounding Gravedigging Tour, is simple but extremely rewarding, allowing you to win Rupees and even a Piece of Heart.

Even children seem to enjoy Dampé’s company, especially one little boy who wanders the graveyard during the day. This kid idolizes Dampé, passing the time by mimicking his walk and pretending to attend to the graves. If Link tries to pull on a gravestone, the young boy takes notice and threatens to tell Dampé that he is messing up all his hard work.

dampe gravedigging tour map

Normally children would be afraid to approach characters like Dampé, but in this game, the kids understand that he’s simply a kind man they can look up to. More importantly, they appreciate the importance of his job of tending to the dead. It cannot be an easy job to do, but Dampé makes sure that Kakariko Graveyard is well-kept, and he does his best to make the place feel as welcoming as possible.

But while Dampé makes for a fun side character during Link’s childhood, he plays a more essential — and more somber — role in the story once our hero becomes an adult. Sometime during Link’s seven-year slumber, Dampé, unfortunately, passes away. We never find out how he died, but regardless, the gravekeeper is absent when Adult Link arrives at Kakariko Graveyard, leaving no one to tend to the lonely graves.

dampe gravedigging tour map

But just because Dampé is dead does not mean he has left the premises — far from it, in fact. If Link inspects the old man’s abandoned hut, he will find a diary that tells of a secret hidden within his grave. When Link enters Dampé’s crypt, the gravekeeper’s spirit appears before him and challenges him to a race through the catacombs. When Link wins the race, Dampé rewards him with a treasured item: the Hookshot, a required item for entering the Forest Temple. After this point, Link can race him again any time he wants for a chance to win a Piece of Heart.

Even in death, Dampé is still devoted to helping people in fun and meaningful ways. He goes from aiding the dead to aiding the living, and his contributions to the cause shouldn’t be taken for granted. After all, without the Hookshot, Link’s quest to defeat Ganondorf would end in failure early on. So even though we may not realize it, Dampé is actually one of the most important characters in the game.

dampe gravedigging tour map

Dampé’s tale may be a sad one, but his wonderful personality and commitment to helping others make him a beloved character in Ocarina of Time , as well as the rest of the games he features in. From now on, whenever the creatures of the night come to haunt you, just remember that kindly Dampé is there for you, ready to light the way.

  • Pieces of Heart Checklist

The following is a list of all of the Pieces of Heart in Ocarina of Time, with a description of how to get each one, and whether you need to be a child or adult to get it, and whether you need to get it during the day or at night.

List of Pieces of Heart

  • (Child/Night) Hyrule Castle Town - At night, find the white dog by the empty stall in the corner of the market near the entrance to town, and walk up to it to get it to follow you. Take it to the back alley and show it to the woman in one of the houses to get a piece of heart.
  • (Child/Day or Night) Lon Lon Ranch - In the silo, pull the crate away from the corner of the wall and crawl through the hole for a piece of heart.
  • (Child/Day or Night) Lost Woods - Play the song game three times with the two Skull Kids after taking the first right in the Lost Woods.
  • (Child/Day or Night) Lost Woods - After learning Saria's Song, return to the Lost Woods entrance and take a left to find a skull kid on a stump. Play Saria's Song on the short stump and the kid gives you a piece of heart.
  • (Adult or Child/Night) Kakariko Graveyard - Get behind the last row of graves in the graveyard and look at the left-hand group. Pull back the grave second from the right. Inside, play Sun's Song to freeze the ReDead and kill it, then stand on the platform and play Sun's Song again to reveal a chest containing a piece of heart.
  • (Child/Night) Kakariko Graveyard - Play Dampé's Heart-Pounding Gravedigging tour. Make sure that he is standing on the edge of a dirt pile when you ask him to dig. Don't ask him to dig the same spot twice in a row; wait for him to go all the way around before asking him to dig at that spot again. The longer you play, the more likely it becomes that he will dig up the piece of heart.
  • (Child/Day or Night) Goron Village - Light the torches on the bottom floor of the Goron Village with fire taken from Darunia's room. The Goron Jar will open and start to spin. Pick a nearby bomb flower and throw it into the jar when it is near the ledge. If it stops with the happy face facing the camera, a piece of heart and 25 rupees will pop out.
  • (Adult or Child/Day or Night) Death Mountain Trail - There is a piece of heart above the entrance to Dodongo's Cavern. You can reach it as a child by going to the bomb flower that you can throw at the Dodongo's Cavern entrance to break it open. Throw the bomb flower somewhere, then stand with your back facing the short piece of fence, but turn slightly to the right. Then hold Z (or L in Ocarina 3D), then do a backflip to land on the ground above the cavern entrance. You get hurt, but the piece of heart here replenishes your health. As an adult, if you planted a Magic Bean outside of Dodongo's Cavern as a child, you can ride the Magic Bean platform to reach it.
  • (Adult or Child/Day or Night) Kakariko Village - As a child, go up to the top of Death Mountain Trail after you get the Bomb Bag. The owl will be there. Talk to it to get a ride back to Kakariko Village. When the owl deposits you on the roof of a house in the village, turn right. The roof of the Cucco pen is below. Land on it and go into the crack in the wall to find a caged cow next to a piece of heart. As an adult, you can use the Hookshot to reach the roof of this house (the house that Anju the cucco girl stands next to during the day).
  • (Adult or Child/Day or Night) Zora's River - There is a Cucco near the entrance to the river. Carry it with you until you reach the area just before the blue Tektites. Go up the angled ramp, then jump toward the ledge that points toward the pillar with the piece of heart on it. You will have to throw the cucco when you get close to the ledge so that you can grab hold of the ledge with your hands. Climb up, then get the piece of heart from the pillar.
  • (Adult or Child/Day or Night) Zora's River - There is a piece of heart on a platform near the waterfall entrance to Zora's Domain, reachable either with a Cucco or the Hover Boots.
  • (Child/Day or Night) Zora's Domain - Light a deku stick in King Zora's room, head down the stairs and light the torch, head down and left and light the torch in front of the shop, go into the shallow water and light the torch here, then hug the far wall and walk behind the waterfall to light these two torches. A chest appears containing a piece of heart.
  • (Child/Day or Night) Lake Hylia - Go to the fishing pond, pay to fish, and look for the big fish hanging out by the log in the middle of the pond. That is the biggest fish; catch it and have it weighed to get a piece of heart.
  • (Child/Day or Night) Hyrule Castle Town Market - One of the Bombchu Bowling prizes is a piece of heart. Just keep playing until you get it.
  • (Adult or Child/Day or Night) Hyrule Field - In center of the fenced in area at the Lake Hylia entrance, a hole will open if you place a bomb. The Business Scrub inside will sell you a piece of heart for 10 rupees.
  • (Adult or Child/Day or Night) Gerudo Valley - Use a Cucco to fly toward the waterfall, or fall down to the ledge next to the river, and jump behind the waterfall and climb the ladder there. There is a niche behind the waterfall that has a piece of heart in it.
  • (Adult/Day or Night) Kakariko Graveyard - Ride the bean stalk to the ledge above, and roll attack the crate for a piece of heart.
  • (Adult/Day or Night) Kakariko Village - Go through Dampé's maze to reach the platform in the windmill that has a piece of heart on it.
  • (Adult/Day or Night) Zora's Fountain - On a block of ice floating in the fountain.
  • (Adult/Day or Night) Ice Cavern - Frozen in red ice in a room with falling icicles.
  • (Adult/Day or Night) Zora's Fountain - Equip the blue tunic and iron boots and sink to the very bottom of the fountain, where a piece of heart awaits.
  • (Adult/Day or Night) Lake Hylia - Ride the bean stalk or call Pierre the scarecrow and reach the roof of the lakeside laboratory. Climb the ladder for the piece of heart.
  • (Adult or Child/Day or Night) Kakariko Village - After collecting at least 50 gold skulltula tokens, visit the house of skulltula and talk to the fifth person there for a piece of heart.
  • (Adult/Day or Night) Death Mountain Crater - Enter the crater from the top of Death Mountain Trail. Go straight and climb down the wall straight ahead to find a piece of heart in an alcove.
  • (Adult/Day) Gerudo Fortress - Win at least 1000 points in the archery game behind the Gerudo Fortress.
  • (Adult/Day or Night) Gerudo Fortress - There is a chest on the roof of the Gerudo Fortress that contains a Piece of Heart. Use the Longshot or play Scarecrow's Song to reach it.
  • (Child/Night) Hyrule Castle Town Market - Use the Lens of Truth to win the treasure chest game (or just try your luck without it).
  • (Adult or Child/Day or Night) West of Hyrule Castle Town Market - Go to an area west of Hyrule Castle Town Market where there is a creek. Bomb one of the trees south of the creek to open a hole. If you have the Shard/Stone of Agony, it will react near that tree. Go down the hole, then use the Golden Scale or Iron Boots to reach the piece of heart at the bottom of the water.
  • (Child/Day or Night) Zora's River - Play the Song of Storms for the music-loving frogs to get a piece of heart.
  • (Child/Day or Night) Zora's River - After you have played all of your ocarina songs (not the warp songs) for the frogs, you can play their bug catching game. Win it to get another piece of heart.
  • (Adult or Child/Day or Night) Lake Hylia - Go into the Lakeside Laboratory. Using the Golden Scale you got at the fishing pond, dive down to the very bottom of the water in the lab. When you reach the bottom, you'll hear the Zelda "discovery" sound. After surfacing, talk to the Lake Scientist in the lab to get a piece of heart.
  • (Adult or Child/Day or Night) Gerudo Valley - As a child, you can pick up the Cucco in the area and jump off the left edge of the cliff to reach a crate on the far cliff that contains a Piece of Heart. As an adult, you can fall to the ledge across from that crate and use the Longshot on it to reach it.
  • (Adult/Day or Night) Desert Colossus - Plant a Magic Bean in front of the Desert Colossus as a child, then return to the Desert Colossus as an adult and ride the Magic Bean. The Piece of Heart is on top of the rock arch in front of the temple.
  • (Adult/Day or Night) Graveyard - Go back to Dampé's grave and race him. Use the Longshot on a torch in the second to last room to catch him in under a minute.
  • (Adult/Day) Kakariko Village - Use the Longshot on the roof of the building near the windmill and talk to the man there to get a piece of heart.
  • (Adult/Day or Night) Death Mountain Crater - Ride the bean sprout to the top of the first smoking pillar in the crater to get the Piece of Heart at the top.

Dampé is a recurring character in The Legend of Zelda series . Appearing in six games, he is the gravekeeper and caretaker of the Graveyard in each respective game, except for the remake of Link's Awakening , where he provides access to the Chamber Dungeons .

  • 1 Ocarina of Time
  • 2 Majora's Mask
  • 3 Four Swords Adventures
  • 4 The Minish Cap
  • 5 A Link Between Worlds
  • 6 Link's Awakening (Switch)

In Ocarina of Time , Dampé is the gravekeeper of the Kakariko Village Graveyard . During Link 's childhood, Dampé can be found patrolling the graveyard at night and starts his own Gravedigging Tour , upon request for 10 Rupees , digging up anything from Rupees to a Heart Piece that Link can pick up. [3] The items that he digs up appear randomly. During the day, he is at his shack sleeping, and if Link tries to interact with him, he tells the young hero to go away. [4]

If Link enters Dampé's house at night while he is gravedigging, Link can read Dampé's diary, where he writes that he found a treasure that "stretches and goes 'boing'". The diary can also be found when Link is an adult, but what's written in it will differ, telling Link to enter Dampé's grave and that he will let Link have his treasure.

Sometime during Link's seven year slumber, Dampé dies and becomes a ghost. When Link digs up his grave, he can find Dampé's ghost in a maze beneath the grave . Dampé challenges Link to a race, and if Link wins, Dampé allows him to take his treasure, the Hookshot . [5] [6] Playing again and winning in under a minute earns Link a Piece of Heart .

Majora's Mask

In Majora's Mask , Dampé is the gravekeeper of the Ikana Graveyard , which is a haunted graveyard, yet he is afraid of ghosts. On the Final Day , Link can find Dampé Beneath the Graveyard , where he admits to be searching for the Ikana Royal Family's treasure. However, he lost his lantern and cannot see. He, in turn, asks Link to guide him using the light of his fairy, Tatl . [7] Leading him to the Soft Soil spots causes him to dig there. [8] After he has dug up three Blue Flames, a Big Poe appears. Since Dampé is afraid of ghosts, he runs away to his house, and if Link defeats the Poe, he is rewarded with a chest that contains an Empty Bottle . [9]

Four Swords Adventures

FSA-Dampe.png

Dampé is the only human inhabitant of The Swamp in Four Swords Adventures , where he lives by himself in a house in the northwest of the graveyard. However, his house is surrounded by many Giant Ghinis that prevent the Links from entering. In order to enter Dampé's home, the Links must stand on four separate switches to light up the torches, defeating the Giant Ghinis.

When the Links enter his house, Dampé warns them that it is dangerous outside, so the Links shouldn't be wondering around the graveyard. Recently, a shadowy guy has been stirring up trouble recently who looks just like the Links. Dampé tells them his name and explains he is supposed to be the caretaker of the graveyard, but he cannot take care of anything right now and is helpless as the creatures that have overrun the area are pleased and treat Hyrule like their new home.

Dampé then demands the Links to listen to a legend. According to the legend, a Dark Tribe were sealed away into a mirror long ago in which the mirror is supposed to be somewhere in the Forest of Light . However, the forest has been covered by pitch-black clouds recently, being a Forest of Dark now. Dampé thinks something bad is certainly happening at the forest. [10]

During the credits of the game, Dampé can be seen walking outside in the peaceful graveyard when the Green Shrine Maiden flies through The Swamp.

Dampé-House-TMC.png

Like in Four Swords Adventures , Dampé is the only living inhabitant in the Royal Valley where he is the gravedigger at the cemetery there. [11] It is said that he has the power to speak with the dead. As a result of this, he fuses the Kinstones he digs up with the local ghosts. [12] When Link first talks to Dampé, he introduces himself and explains that he is the gravedigger. Dampé proceeds to ask him about what Link mentioned about being called to the Royal Valley by the ghost of a king . He informs Link that the ghost is an ancient king of Hyrule who rests there and explains that he has also seen the ghost. As a result of thinking how the king has called Link, Dampé cannot see any reason not to let him in, giving Link the Graveyard Key . [13]

Once Link leaves Dampé's house and gets the Graveyard Key stolen by a crow , Dampé can be found at the gate to the rest of the Royal Valley. When talked to, Dampé asks Link if a crow took the key and flew off into a tree. He then yells for him not to just stand around as the crow will get away. Dampé urges Link to charge at the tree if Link wants the key back. [14] After Link has reacquired the Graveyard Key from the crow, Dampé tells him that he will open the gate for Link and advices for him to be careful in there. [15]

If Link talks to Dampé after he opens the gate, he gives directions of left, left, left, up, up, and up, but he forgets the last turn, [16] turning out to be directions for a secret path to the Lost Woods -like forest in the Royal Valley that leads to 200 Mysterious Shells or 100 Rupees if he has collected every figurine .

After Link has completed the Royal Crypt , he is able to fuse Kinstones with Dampé. Link can perform Kinstone fusion by fusing a blue Kinstone with Dampé, opening Gina 's grave in the Royal Valley that leads to more Kinstone fusions and 100 Mystery Shells. Once he has fused Kinstones with Dampé once, Link is able to come back and fuse again. However, Link needs to fuse a Green Kinstone with Dampé this time, and when he performs the Kinstone fusion, a crack forms in the ground in Wind Ruins that leads to a chest containing a red Kinstone piece.

In A Link Between Worlds , Dampé once again appears as the Gravedigger. He cares for the Graveyard found east of the Sanctuary . Despite his looks, Dampé is a kind-hearted person that cares for the Priest 's daughter, Seres . Link first encounters Dampé in front of the Sanctuary, just before Yuga makes his first appearance in Hyrule .

Link's Awakening (Switch)

In the Switch remake of Link's Awakening , Dampé's Shack serves as the way to access the Chamber Dungeons . These are customizable dungeons which can be created using rooms from previously explored dungeons. Dampé presents Link with an array of challenges involving the arrangement of rooms, each with different rewards.
