Factory Tour
Guided factory tour.
A guided factory tour will take visitors into the heart of the Moorcroft Factory. Based at the Heritage Visitor Centre our expert guides accompany the visitor around the original factory. Comprehensive information in all aspects of the hand made processes of mould making, slip casting, hand turning, tube lining, hand painting, kiln firing and finally glazing. The techniques used in making Moorcroft pottery are virtually the same today, as they were a hundred years ago. Visitors enter a time warp from which they can look into the virtual soul of what must be the world’s best-loved art pottery.
Guided factory tours are accessible to wheelchair users. For visitors with hearing difficulties we offer the loop hearing system.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 10.45am
Unfortunately, Moorcroft are unable to offer tours during our annual 'Potters' shutdown for staff holidays. These periods of closure are usually a week at Easter starting with Good Friday, the last week of June and first week of July, the last week of August and during Christmas and New Year. However, 'Potters' holiday dates are subject to movement and therefore we advise you contact the Heritage Visitor Centre to confirm whether tours are available. However, whenever possible Moorcroft will arrange for a demonstration artist to be in the Heritage Visitor Centre at Sandbach Road demonstrating the art of tube lining and hand painting during these periods so that visitors can still see two of the most important skills required in creating a piece of Moorcroft art pottery.
Guided Factory tours take approximately 60 minutes and cost:
- Adults - £7.50
- Children - £5.00 (minimum age 11)
- Club members - FREE
Advance booking is necessary at least 48 Hours prior to visiting the factory.

Factory tours in North West England
Are you curious to know how things are made? Do you ever look at products and ask "How do they do that?" or wonder at how complex items are shaped, positioned, connected and processed consistently and at production-line speed? Perhaps you agree with an uncle of mine who said:
I love work. I could watch it all day long!
If work and production fascinates you, then why not take a factory tour and discover how some amazing products are produced. When you have some free time or are visiting or holidaying in a different city or country, you could include a factory tour in your itinerary and make your visit even more memorable.
Visitors should keep in mind that factories are working, production facilities, and certain areas may be shut down for maintainance and repair at the time of their visit. Visitors should also generally not wear open footwear (e.g. sandles or shoes exposing part of the feet). This is for safety reasons. Some factory tours will not admit visitors wearing inappropriate footwear. Some factory tours are not suitable for babies, buggies, young children or for people with mobilitiy difficulties. Check each tour to determine what restrictions apply before booking.
