How to Sync Safari Bookmarks with Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer

If you use Safari on a Mac or on an iPad but also use Windows , you can make life a little easier by keeping your Safari bookmarks synced with your Windows browser. Here's how to sync your bookmarks across devices between Safari and Chrome , Firefox, and Internet Explorer.

icloud bookmarks

The key to this bookmarks syncing is the iCloud app, built into OS X and iOS and available for Windows.

Enable Bookmark Synchronization on a Mac

First we'll make sure that you have iCloud syncing turned on for Safari in OS X.

1. Open the System Preferences app.

2. Click iCloud.

icloud system preferences

3. Check the box for Safari if it isn't already checked. If it already is checked, you're done!

4. Click OK to confirm you want to merge your Safari bookmarks and Reading List with iCloud.

7. Click OK.

8. Click Apply to finish setting up synchronization.

With the steps above completed, whenever you add or remove bookmarks on one device, they'll be synced to your other devices and selected browsers. Note that iCloud won't, however, sync between Safari and Firefox or Chrome on the Mac.

How to sync bookmarks between Firefox, Chrome, and Safari on multiple computers?

There are some similar question on bookmark syncing, but most answers point to Delicious or Google bookmarks. However, as Chrome doesn't have the Google toolbar, how would those sync? I use several computers and different browsers on them so I would like a easy solution to keep all of the bookmarks in sync on various computers and browsers in the same organizational structure throughout.

Also, I would prefer to have my bookmarks only synced to my account, not necessarily visible to the whole world as on Delicious. Is there any service that could handle this?

Xmarks (formerly FoxMarks) could solve your problem. It can synchronize (privately) bookmarks from Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer.

EDIT: Lifehacker has an update on Chrome supporting bookmark sync

EDIT: As of May 1st 2018, Xmarks has been shut down by its parent company, LastPass.

  • Xmarks also allows one to synchronise only some of the data. It's called "sync profiles" (where sync is not a verb, which took me some time to understand). See xmarks.com/about/features/sync_profiles Nice! –  Arjan Mar 27, 2010 at 12:39

Chrome does have an extension for Xmarks (formerly FoxMarks) now. I just installed it today, and it works beautifully. I had already had an account set up through both Internet Explorer and Firefox, but I recently had switched to Chrome. I was not looking forward to having to find another online synchronization program.

For 2012, XMarks came back from the grave as part of LastPass. It supports 4 of 5 major browsers (IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari) but lacks Opera. It's not clear whether this is due to Opera API issues, but there is a little discussion in their forums. Looks like it's free, but you have to subscribe for use with mobile devices/tablets (iDevice, Android, etc.) and a few other features. This is the same strategy used by LastPass. (Disclaimer: premium user of both)

Google Bookmarks may be an option depending on your browser choice and plugin availability. Google Chrome Sync (and possibly plugins for other browsers) may also work; for Firefox I believe it's tied in with the Google Toolbar for Firefox but YMMV by browser.

Delicious may be an option; I used to be a user but have mostly stopped after the headaches with their switchover (I switched to XMarks). I think they were trying to go in a more "social" direction like Digg, et al.

Pinboard is a commercial service (one-time fee) that apparently also uses the Delicious API, so some addons/widgets may be able to work with it instead of with Delicious. Long-term support of those may be questionable if Delicious doesn't still support that API.

UPDATE: For XMarks, I'm not sure what their plans are for IE10, but I'd expect them to only support the Desktop version of IE - there's apparently also a "Metro" version that will not allow any plugins.

It is now 2012, and Xmarks is still the best solution. Bought by LastPass , its existence and continuing free status are not any more in doubt.

It now fully supports Firefox 3+, Internet Explorer 7-9, Safari 4-5 and Chrome, all available from its download page .

From The Tech Club: Transmute is a free utility software which will help you to synchronize bookmarks between various browsers, organize bookmarks, convert bookmarks for use in bookmark managers, share bookmarks with others and more. And best of all, it’s free!

enter image description here

Features of Transmute:

  • Extensive Browser Support : Transmute supports all of the major web browsers including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Apple Safari, Chromium, Flock and Konqueror!
  • Easy to Use : A streamlined interface makes Transmute very accessible.
  • Automatic Backups : By default Transmute will timestamp and back up your bookmark collections before changes are made, providing extra safety.
  • Cross-Platform : Transmute supports Windows using the Microsoft .NET Framework. However, Transmute will also run on Windows, Linux and Mac via use of the Mono Framework!

Downside: doesn't sync between computers/online. Though you could have Firefox sync with the Google Toolbar and have your other browsers sync with Firefox.

But else here's a Mashable overview of 25+ ways to sync your bookmarks .

Firefox 3.5 now has weave which is nice, but only for Firefox.

The main thing I like most is that you can run your own weave server.

You can add a bookmark from Chrome to Delicious by dragging a link up to your Bookmarks Toolbar. Take a look here.

Or you can create a link in Chrome with the following link manually:

Then you can go to the delicious.com site to navigate to your bookmarks. I created a link for this to:

Bypass the problem: create an HTML page of links, and make that the home page of each browser.

Since Firefox, Chrome and Opera (not sure about Safari) has their own sync services, it might be not a good idea for using third-party services. So you should use one of those for your primary synchronisation service and plugins for using this service in other browsers.

The article Ars examines Chrome and Firefox bookmark sync protocols is a good start for writing Firefox synchronisation or Chrome synchronisation plugins.

Vanuan's user avatar

Unfortunately 'bypassing' the problem is not ideal for me in that I use the bookmark toolbar extensively, in fact I've organized all my favourites into multiple menus on that bar, a simple HTML file just doesn't cut it.

Here's my solution. Chrome will allow you to directly import bookmarks from Firefox if you delete all the bookmarks off of Chrome, and it will also automatically sort the aforementioned toolbar almost like it is in Firefox. This works reasonably well for me in that Firefox is my primary browser, and I only use Chrome occasionally. You'd think that Chrome would have the import button (not the HTML import) available all the time, and that it would check for duplicate entries when import, but oh well.

You can also try Diigo , which is similar to delicious, and lets you save your bookmarks and access them elsewhere with internet connection.

It has a toolbar for Firefox (at least) and for other browsers, or if you don't like toolbars, you can also use bookmarklets.

Nowdays, is my favorite way of saving bookmarks. I reallized it is unneficient to save about everything i like as a browser bookmark, because it also tends to slow down the browser. For me, it is better to now keep them in the cloud, and Diigo does that just fine (it is similar to Delicious but with some other features you may find useful).

How to Organize and Sync Your Web Browser Bookmarks

Is your browser bookmark list a long and cluttered mess here's how to organize your saved sites in chrome, firefox, and edge, and sync them across different devices..

Lance Whitney

Have your browser bookmarks turned into a disorganized mess? The more web pages you save, the longer and more unmanageable your bookmark list can become, especially if you fail to arrange them in their own folders.

Fear not. Whether you use Chrome, Firefox, or Edge, you can work with your current bookmarks to reorganize them so they're easier to access. You can also sync your bookmarks across browsers on multiple PCs and devices with the right tools.

First, let's assume you've gathered lots of bookmarks or favorites but haven't organized them properly. Below, we'll go over how to organize and sync everything in each browser.

How to Manage Bookmarks in Chrome

firefox bookmarks safari sync

To add a bookmark of your current page in Chrome , click the star at the right end of the address field. A drop-down menu pops up where you can change the bookmark's name and location, and place it in the bookmarks bar or in a specific folder.

You can also click the three-dot menu on the Chrome toolbar and open Bookmarks > Bookmark this tab , which will produce the same drop-down menu. Or, save a bookmark with the Windows keyboard shortcut Ctrl + D or the macOS keyboard shortcut Command + D .

firefox bookmarks safari sync

If you add bookmarks without storing or organizing them in some logical way, they can easily grow out of control. To clean things up, go to Settings > Bookmarks > Bookmark manager .

You can now add a folder to store certain bookmarks together. Right-click just outside your list of bookmarks. A pop-up menu offers commands for Add new bookmark and Add new folder . Select the command for Add new folder and type a name for it. Click Save .

firefox bookmarks safari sync

The new folder appears at the bottom of the list, but you can drag and drop it anywhere you'd like it to reside. You can then drag specific bookmarks into that new folder. To move a bookmark from one folder to another, open the current folder in the bookmark manager, select the bookmark, and drag it to its new folder. To delete it entirely, right-click it and select Delete .

firefox bookmarks safari sync

If you use Chrome across multiple devices, you probably want to keep your bookmarks synced. Click the three-dot icon and select Settings . In the You and Google section, click the Turn on Sync button and make sure you're logged in with your Google account. When you’re prompted to turn on sync, click the button for Yes, I’m in . Your bookmarks will then start to sync.

How to Manage Bookmarks in Firefox

firefox bookmarks safari sync

The process for bookmarking a site in Firefox is similar to that in Chrome. Click the star icon in the URL bar to bookmark the current page. You can also press Ctrl/Command + D or click the hamburger icon in the upper right and go to Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page . Name the bookmark, then press Save .

firefox bookmarks safari sync

To organize your bookmarks in Firefox, click the Bookmarks icon and select Manage Bookmarks to open the Bookmarks library. Right-click the menu and select Add a Folder . You can then drag and drop bookmarks into and out of specific folders to organize them. To remove a bookmark, right-click on it and select Delete Bookmark .

firefox bookmarks safari sync

As with Chrome, you can sync your Firefox bookmarks so they’re available across different devices. In Firefox, click the hamburger icon in the upper right and select the Sign in button next to Sync and save data . Type your email address and click the Sign up or Sign in button.

If you already have a Firefox account, you’ll be prompted to enter your password. If not, you’ll be asked to create a password, list your age, and then select the items you want to sync. After you sign in, your bookmarks will be synced.

Add and Manage Favorites in Microsoft Edge

firefox bookmarks safari sync

To save a site as a favorite in Microsoft Edge , click the star icon on the right, choose a name and location for the page, and then click Done . To access all your favorites, click the ellipsis icon in the upper right and select Favorites .

From the Favorites window, you can bookmark your current page, add a new folder, and pin the Favorites window as a sidebar. Click the ellipsis icon in the Favorites window to access additional features and commands.

firefox bookmarks safari sync

To sync your bookmarks across multiple devices with Edge, click the profile icon on the top toolbar and choose an account. Click Sign in to sync data , then sign in with your preferred account. To review or change the synced items, click the ellipsis icon and select Settings > Profiles > Sync , then make sure the switch for Favorites is on.

How to Sync Bookmarks Across Multiple Browsers

The problem with the bookmark syncing features in Firefox, Chrome, and Edge is that they do not work across different browsers. If you use a combination of two or more of these browsers, a third-party bookmark syncing tool is needed to keep your bookmarks consistent. Let’s check out some of your options.

xBrowserSync

firefox bookmarks safari sync

Compatible with Chrome, Firefox, and Edge, the free xBrowserSync works with your existing bookmarks to sync them across all the browsers you use. Install the required extension for your browser (Edge users can download it from the Chrome Web Store ). Next, make sure that the bookmarks in your default browser are organized and arranged the way you want.

In your default browser , click the xBrowserSync toolbar icon to set up the program. After granting access, continue through the setup process. You’ll then need to create an encrypted password to secure your bookmarks. Make sure your local bookmarks are then uploaded and synced online through xBrowserSync.

You can then install the program on your other browsers, go through the setup process, and then restore your bookmarks from their online counterparts so that they’re all in sync.

firefox bookmarks safari sync

To access your bookmarks in Chrome or Edge, display the bookmarks toolbar, click Other bookmarks and hover over the [xbs Menu] entry. You’ll see the folders and icons for all your bookmarks. In Firefox, just click the Bookmarks icon and you’ll see all your bookmarks.

firefox bookmarks safari sync

Eversync is an extension that can sync your bookmarks across Firefox, Chrome, and Edge (via the Chrome Web Store) in Windows, iOS, and Android. First, you must create an Eversync account to store your bookmarks online. You can then merge your local bookmarks with those online, download the online versions to replace your local bookmarks, or upload your local bookmarks to replace the online versions.

You’re able to manually sync your bookmarks whenever you want and select an option to automatically sync them in the background every 30 minutes. Bookmarks can also be manually backed up to your account at any time and then restored from a saved data set if you run into trouble with your current bookmarks. Nimbus encrypts your bookmarks to secure them as they're being synchronized.

The free Eversync service allows up to 15,000 bookmarks and stores two weeks of automatic backups. Pay $5 a month (or $44.99 per year), and you can sync an unlimited number of bookmarks and restore a backup of your bookmarks from the past six months.

Raindrop.io

firefox bookmarks safari sync

Raindrop.io works a bit differently than Eversync. Instead of using and syncing your bookmarks locally, you do it through the Raindrop website. Accessing them online is just as convenient as accessing them locally, though not as fast.

You can access your bookmarks through the Raindrop toolbar icon or through the Raindrop pane. After you install the Raindrop.io program as an app or extension and create a free account, you can import your existing local bookmarks into the service. From there, install the program for other browsers on your other devices, sign into your account, and you'll see your stored bookmarks.

You can sort your bookmarks by name, date, and other criteria. Right-clicking on a bookmark lets you edit it or delete it. Modify or remove a bookmark in one browser, and the change immediately shows up in the other browsers, since they're all tapped into the same collection. To add a bookmark, click the Raindrop icon, select the folder in which you want to store the bookmark, and click Add Bookmark .Raindrop directly supports Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, and Opera. The program is compatible with Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android. A basic bookmarking account with Raindrop.io is free. For $28 a year, a Pro edition supports subfolders, finds and deletes duplicate bookmarks and broken links, and lets you store your bookmark collections in Dropbox or Google Drive .

firefox bookmarks safari sync

Those of you who use RoboForm as a password manager can also use it as a bookmark-syncing tool. Like Raindrop.io, RoboForm takes over for your built-in, local browser bookmarks. As such, your bookmarks automatically sync on any computer or device on which you run RoboForm.

To set this up, right-click the RoboForm icon in the System Tray and select Options from the menu. Select Account & Data , then click the Import button. If your bookmarks are stored in folders and subfolders, check the Sort imported data to sub-folders box. Then click the Import button next to the browser that contains the bookmarks you want to import.

RoboForm works with any web browser. If you want to access a bookmark in a browser that uses RoboForm, click the RoboForm icon on the toolbar and select Bookmarks . You should now see all the folders for your bookmarks. Just open the folder and select the bookmark for the page you want to launch. From here, you can also right-click a bookmark to manage it.

You can fully manage all the bookmarks stored through RoboForm by clicking the RoboForm toolbar icon, selecting Bookmarks , and then clicking the Edit command. Right-click on a folder to create, rename, or delete it. Right-click on a bookmark to rename, move, or delete it.

Sync Bookmarks With iCloud

firefox bookmarks safari sync

You can use iCloud to synchronize your bookmarks between Safari on your iPhone or iPad and Chrome or Firefox on your Windows PC or Mac. To first set this up on your Apple device, open Settings and tap your name at the top of the screen. Open iCloud , turn on the Safari setting, then choose Merge .

firefox bookmarks safari sync

The necessary iCloud program is built into your Mac. On a Windows PC, you have to download iCloud for Windows if you want to manage your bookmarks (or view your photos ). Open the iCloud program on your computer and check the Bookmarks option.

You can then select all the browsers you wish to include, including Chrome and Firefox. Click OK and then Apply . You’re then prompted to download the iCloud Bookmarks extension for Firefox or Chrome.

When downloaded, your browser will open the iCloud Bookmarks page. Click the Add button to add the extension to the browser and then restart your computer. When the computer restarts, relaunch the browser, and your bookmarks should now be synced between Safari on your iPhone or iPad and the browser on your computer.

Mozilla's Firefox and Apple's Safari are competing Web browsers; as such, neither includes a native method for syncing data to the other. If you want to keep your bookmarks, open tabs and browsing history synced between Firefox and Safari, Xmarks is the way to go – it offers extensions for both browsers that syncs your data to their servers. However, it is not available for Safari on Windows. Mozilla also offers an official app called that allows you to access your browsing data – bookmarks, history and open tabs – on Safari for your iPhone.

Syncing With Xmarks

Install the Xmarks add-on for Firefox and restart your browser.

Open your Add-ons page, either from the Firefox button in the upper left corner of the window or by pressing "Ctrl-Shift-A." Click "Options" below the Xmarks add-on to set up an account. You can also choose to sync your open tabs and browsing history at this time. Once your account is set up, click the "Synchronize Now" button in the Xmarks options window.

Install Xmarks on your Mac. Once installed, you can access it by opening System Preferences and selecting "Xmarks for Safari" under "Other."

Run the Xmarks for Safari setup wizard and log into your account. Once you have logged in to Xmarks, click the "Synchronize Now" button.

Firefox to Mobile Safari

Set up an account via Firefox Sync if you don't already have one installed. You can do this by clicking the Firefox button and choosing the "Set Up Sync" option.

Install the Firefox Home app on your iOS device; it will work with the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Once installed, open Firefox Home on your device and enter your sync account data.

Open the app and click an item to open it in your iOS Safari browser.

  • Mozilla: Firefox
  • With Xmarks you can change settings so that it synchronizes when you close your browser as well as enable or disable automatic syncing.
  • Xmarks also allows you to sync Internet Explorer and Google Chrome.
  • Xmarks does not synchronize password data. The options page recommends using LastPass for this function.

How to sync all your browser bookmarks with xBrowserSync

Your email has been sent

Image of Lance Whitney

Google Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft Edge all offer their own built-in tools to synchronize your bookmarks across different computers. But these tools work only within each specific browser. If you use all three browsers, you need a way to keep your bookmarks in sync among all of them. For that task, you can turn to a free utility called xBrowserSync.

SEE: How to protect against 10 common browser threats (free PDF) (TechRepublic)

By installing the xBrowserSync extension, your bookmarks are synchronized among the different browsers on all your systems. Make a change in one browser and on one system, and it propagates to the other browsers on your other systems.

The program works in both Windows and macOS but only with Chrome, Firefox and Edge; no support for Safari. On the mobile front, XBrowserSync is available as an app for Android but not for iOS / iPadOS . The Android app displays a list of all your bookmarks. Clicking on any bookmark opens the site in your default browser. Here’s how it works.

How to install xBrowserSync in Google Chrome

Let’s start with Google Chrome. First, make sure that the bookmarks in Chrome are organized and arranged the way you want. Remove any bookmarks you no longer need. Move stray bookmarks into folders if necessary. Second, you’ll need to disable Google’s own bookmark synchronization if you’ve enabled it because Google’s sync process can conflict with that of xBrowserSync.

Open the XBrowserSync website where you can read about the product. When you’re ready, click the Download button and then click the button for Chrome Store. At the xBrowserSync Chrome Store page, click the button to Add to Chrome. Select the button to Add Extension.

After the installation has finished, click the Extensions icon at the top and click on the pin icon to see xBrowserSync on the toolbar. Then click its toolbar icon to kick off the setup process. At the first window, click Continue ( Figure A ).

firefox bookmarks safari sync

xBrowserSync asks for permission to read and change data on the websites you visit. Click Allow. Click the toolbar icon again to continue the setup. Click Next for each screen that appears. At the final screen, click the Got It link. At the next screen, you’ll need to create an encryption password to protect and secure your bookmarks. As usual, you’ll want to cook up a password that’s complex and secure but not difficult to remember. Enter the password and click Next ( Figure B ).

firefox bookmarks safari sync

Type the password again to confirm it and then click Sync. Answer yes when the program tells you it will delete all local bookmarks before restoring synced bookmarks. xBrowserSync syncs your local bookmarks.

Now, you want to be able to access your synchronized bookmarks. The easiest way is to display the bookmarks toolbar. In Chrome, go to Settings, scroll down the screen and turn on the switch for Show bookmarks bar. At the bookmarks toolbar, click the button for Other bookmarks and hover over the entry for [xbs Menu]. You’ll then see the folders and icons for all your bookmarks ( Figure C ).

How to sync bookmarks from xBrowserSync in Microsoft Edge

Next, let’s segue to Edge, specifically the Chromium version of Edge as Microsoft no longer supports the legacy edition. First, make sure you disable Edge’s own internal favorites synchronization if already enabled. There is no xBrowserSync extension for Edge in the Microsoft Store. But since the browser supports Chrome extensions, you can pick up it up at the Chrome Web Store. Go directly to the Chrome store page for xBrowserSync . The first time you do this, you’ll have to click the button at the top for Allow extensions from other stores. Then follow the same steps to install the extension in Edge as you did for Chrome.

After the installation, click the xBrowserSync toolbar icon in Edge and go through the setup screens. But when you get to the screen that prompts you to enter an encryption password, click the link for Already Got a Sync ID ( Figure D ).

firefox bookmarks safari sync

The next screen asks you to enter your Sync ID. You can find that easily enough. Go back to Chrome and click the xBrowserSync toolbar icon. Click the Settings icon. Then click the string for Sync ID. (Don’t worry, you won’t have to type that string) ( Figure E ).

firefox bookmarks safari sync

The next screen displays a QR code you can use with the xBrowserSync Android app. More easily, though, just copy and paste the ID. Click the button to Copy Sync ID to Clipboard ( Figure F ).

firefox bookmarks safari sync

Return to Edge and paste the string in the Sync ID field. Type the password you previously created. Then click the Sync button ( Figure G ). Your bookmarks in Edge are synced with your bookmarks from Chrome via xBrowserSync.

firefox bookmarks safari sync

Accessing your synced bookmarks in Edge works the same as in Chrome. Go to Settings and select the category for Appearance. Click the dropdown menu for the setting for Show Favorites Bar and set it to Always. On the Favorites toolbar, click the button for Other Favorites, hover over the entry for [xbs Menu] to see the folders and icons for all your bookmarks ( Figure H ).

How to sync bookmarks from xBrowserSync in Firefox

Finally, open Firefox and disable the browser’s internal bookmark syncing if you had previously activated it. Browse to the XBrowserSync page at the Firefox Browser Add-ons site. Click the button to Add to Firefox. Add the extension and then click OK. After installation, click the xBrowserSync toolbar icon. The process is then the same as it was for Microsoft Edge. Follow each screen.

At the screen that prompts you to enter an encryption password, click the link for Already Got a Sync ID. At the screen that asks you to enter your Sync ID, copy and paste the Sync ID from the xBrowserSync settings screen in either Chrome or Edge and then enter your password. Click Sync ( Figure I ). Your bookmarks are then synced from xBrowserSync to Firefox.

firefox bookmarks safari sync

Accessing your bookmarks is a bit easier in Firefox than in Chrome or Edge as you can add a Bookmarks icon directly to the toolbar. Click the hamburger icon for the Application Menu and select the setting for Customize Toolbar. Drag the icon for Bookmarks Menu onto the toolbar. Click that icon and you’ll see all your bookmarks ( Figure J ).

How to install xBrowserSync on an Android device

Download and install the xBrowserSync app from Google Play . The first time you open the app, tap Next to go through each of the initial setup screens. At the screen to Scan Your Sync ID, tap the button for Scan ID. On Chrome, Edge or Safari on your desktop PC, click the xBrowserSync toolbar icon, select the Settings icon, and then click the Sync ID string. Hover your Android device over the QR code to scan the ID. On your mobile device, enter your xBrowserSync password ( Figure K ).

Tap the bullet point icon in the xBrowserSync app and select the entry for Menu bookmarks. Tap a specific bookmark, and it opens in your default browser ( Figure L ).

Currently I use Chrome on my Mac and android. I'd like to use Safari instead on my mac but I'd want to sync bookmarks automatically between them. Is there any way of doing this or do I just have to import my bookmarks manually and then manually update them from time to time?

Synced bookmarks between two different browsers? On two different OS'es? I'm guessing no. I'm using Mozilla Firefox (have been for years, like it very much, comparing with other browsers now and then) and it syncs my bookmarks across my apple devices. Recommended. And I would think that it would sync between Android and Apple devices, though I haven't tried it.

I use multiple Google Chrome user profiles to separate work and personal browsing, so wonder if the icloud bookmarks extension lets you select which profile Safari syncs with . Add to that the fact that Safari now supports multiple user profiles, and it gets a whole lot of complicated. For example , perhaps I want Safari personal profile to sync with Chrome's personal profile, and also do the same thing for the work profiles. Apple could just solve this with Safari for Windows, but I guess they want to leave that browser dead. Click to expand...

How to organize and sync your bookmarks across browsers

If you use several browsers across your devices, you can sync your bookmarks for easy access to the sites and info you need most. Whether you’re using a home laptop or checking your smartphone on the road, you can keep all your bookmarks and favorites synced up and available right at your fingertips.

Learn to merge, combine, and sync your saved web pages and keep your online life organized.

How to organize bookmarks within a browser

All modern browsers, like Microsoft Edge , feature a Bookmarks or Favorites Manager where you can add and delete links, create folders for similar bookmarks, and weed out duplicate or dead links.

To organize your favorites  in Microsoft Edge, go to the three dots in the upper right corner and click on Favorites (you can also select Ctrl + Shift + Option on your keyboard). Here, you can create new folders and drag-and-drop existing links into new folders.

Nest folders inside each other and delete links. It works just like the folders on your computer desktop—which makes it all the easier to sort through your saved links.

Clean up outdated or expired URLs using a bookmark checker . That way, you can stay ahead of any potential duplicates, misplaced folders, or dead links.

Three ways to sync your bookmarks across browsers

Every major browser has their own ways of saving and loading bookmarks, but they all import bookmarks as HTML web pages. This makes it easy to save your bookmarks and import them into another browser. Here are three ways you can sync your bookmarks:

1. Export and edit your bookmarks

You can export bookmarks as an HTML page  which will list all of your favorites in lists and nested folders. In the Favorites menu in Microsoft Edge, select the three dots for More options and select Export favorites .

2. Automatically import bookmarks into Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge makes it easy to sync your bookmarks. Select the three dots in the top right . Then, select Settings to access the Profiles menu. Near the bottom, select Import browser data . Here, you can add bookmarks from any supported browsers that are already downloaded onto your device. You can even import saved data and passwords from other browsers into Microsoft Edge, so you won’t have to go through the hassle of resaving your information.

3. Use free software to sync your bookmarks

There are tools and Microsoft Edge add-ons  that allow you to comprehensively sync and manage your bookmarks. Whether you’re importing from Microsoft Edge to another browser or merging across different devices, these advanced managers can allow you to get even more specific about what you choose to save.

Easily remove duplicate favorites

With Microsoft Edge, there’s no need to open every bookmark and scour your saved pages for duplicate links. Under the Favorites menu, select Remove duplicate links . Microsoft Edge will highlight any duplicate links across all of your synced devices, and you will have a chance to inspect them before they’re deleted.

Keeping your digital life organized is vital to staying productive and enjoying your time online. Try Microsoft Edge today  to see how its built-in tools can enhance your online life.
