Global handled our St. Augustine trip! It was a great trip and the students and parents enjoyed learning Florida history! Global lined up the hotel and activities for us and even setup a pizza party! Great trip!

This smallish travel company offers individualized and personalized service that many other student tour companies do not provide. Account managers/representatives often reach out over phone (as opposed to strict email communication) and will frequently meet up with the group on tour. This level of attention is unique in the tourism industry, and it's one of the reasons my school has utilized GTA's services for the past seven years.

I won't reiterate the other negative and well thought out reviews regarding the 70% refund based on GTA's 'Standard Cancellation Policy'. We have much the same story. I have tried to contact them several times and no response. We have also contacted our Middle School and they are considering dropping GTA as a vendor. This will hurt GTA in the long run, as people will not trust them. Very short sighted of them. Seeing quotes from GTA management saying that they are going 'above and beyond' is just disgusting. Much like other people's experience, I have also received full refunds from hotels, airlines and VRBO renters because of the pandemic. GTA is the only one that is sticking to their 'Standard' policy in times when nothing is standard. Reading also that GTA is blaming their travel parters as the problem is laughable and a shallow attempt to pass the buck and claim no responsibility for their decision(s).

I have been very happy with the trips I have taken students on for the last 10 years with Global Travel! I look forward to traveling with them again this season. This is a very good company that works hard to make the travelers experience, some thing to remember for a lifetime! I highly recommend!

My son's camp was cancelled and we could not travel due to the quarantine and Covid 19. They told me on the phone that this claim would be covered as a trip interruption due to Covid. I filed my claim on-line with documentation and this is what they said: Your plan excludes coverage for losses due to an epidemic. Your plan does not provide coverage for losses due to an event that was known, foreseeable, intended, or expected when your plan was purchased. It's designed to protect you when there is a sudden, unexpected problem or emergency. Your insurance program provided Trip Cancellation benefits for very specific reasons. Unfortunately, cancelling your trip or having your trip cancelled/changed due to the Coronavirus are not included among those reasons. Why have insurance? I will not be using Global Travel Alliance again.

I am having much of the same disappointment as the other folks writing reviews. I did buy the TPP insurance at $250, and I cancelled my sons trip the day after we reviewed his 2nd trimester report, as his grades did not meet our agreement. On March 17, I cancelled the trip to NY/DC. This was before the COVID caused businesses to close and Social Distancing was not in place. This was cancelled for grades, not even yet thinking about COVID. But the TPP would not help, because the trip would eventually be cancelled for the pandemic (I guess it is cancelled, I have no idea). Here is the fun part. We live in Bozeman, MT, the same small town as the GTA offices. Do we deserve any different coverages or accomodations? No! And we are not getting them either. It is amazing how tone-deaf a company can be during these difficult times. I do not wish bad for the GTA employees, but I will be a vocal person that makes sure every chance I get, that the reputation and lack of sensitivity of the owners, founders, business leaders, and company are well known in their community. Global Travel Alliance could have been so much better !

Only offering 70% refund for cancellation due to COVID-19 (not allowing trip insurance to cover it) and giving parents about 5 days to make the final decision. Refusing to cancel the trip only 3 weeks away with the US still deep in the COVID-19 pandemic, and not giving the option to postpone. Families devastated by this loss of funds AND travel. Forcing parents to take an unfair gamble with their children and their finances.

Photo of Melissa M.

This is the ONLY business I have dealt with during this pandemic to absolutely disregard the devastation COVID-19 has brought to everyone. They point to policy on every avenue. They claim they had to pay vendors and that is why they won't refund for cancelled trips. I am confident those vendors are not the issue. Not a single hotel chain or airline have been refusing refunds. This company lacks integrity and I encourage anyone who is dealing with this right now from them to escalate the issue. They have no business operating at all. Disgusting business practices!

If I could give this company a negative star I'd jump at the chance. Our son was scheduled for a school trip to DC/NYC in June 2020. Unfortunately with the current pandemic things have changed. So let me inform you of what happens when you have a trip paid for through Global Travel Alliance. First they have a cancellation policy. It specifically states in the event of a pandemic you won't receive a full refund. Depending on the day you cancel is how much money will be refunded. It starts at 70%, drops to 50% and then 0%. Now, let's say they cancel the trip you would think you'd receive all your money back correct? Nope, it's the same percentages. Now add in the extra money for the protection plan, what does that provide in these circumstances, yep you guessed it, nothing! I have contacted the VP Ryan Sparzak to ask for refunds for all affected by the pandemic, he points directly to the policy. Doesn't matter that this company will probably receive a bailout or assistance from the government. It doesn't matter that DOT is making airlines fully refund air travel, it doesn't matter that hotels are fully refunding their customer. What matters is this company is profiting off of families who cannot send their children into a hotbed of CoronaVirus. What matters is this company has no morals. This company is showing compete negligence in a time where stay at home orders are in place, where nothing is open, where people are actually losing life and all they do is point to their policy. These are kids that some have worked throughout the summer, done babysitting, walked dogs, completed chores etc to help pay for this trip, only to be ripped off by Global Travel Alliance. This is disgraceful. This is why people lose faith in large money hungry companies. Policy over doing the right thing. It speaks volumes. https://www.wowt.com/content/news/Called-off-middle-school-summer-trips-leave-parents-footing-cancellation-bills-569530671.html

I'm giving it 0 stars and would go negative if there was that feature. I could not send without giving it 1 and so realize that is not a true answer and they deserve none. We just paid top dollar to this company for our 8th grade trip to DC. What a disaster. They hire a bus company called Empire Coaches. They are not a reputable company and I cannot believe that after the bus broke down and you had children and parents hiking through a homeless camp to get to the tomb of the unknown soldier that you would send a bus that has 650,000 miles on it with no heat and no electricity versus the bus that broke down that had 350,000 miles on it with no heat no electricity and a back door that would not close which was a safety and emergency issue that instead of taking the bus off the road at that point in time we had to have one of the guides hold the back door shut also the back closet's would not lock and a large bulk 50 pound block of wood fell out of the closet and almost hit A person in the head. My safe didn't work at hotel and I had to carry purse and valuables all day in the freezing cold. We had to walk extensive lengths and cross highways and homeless camps as a result of the bus breaking down and major route. Also the bus driver didn't even know the height of the bus and could not go under a bridge and we all had to hike again and call the police only to learn that the bus could pass through and then the bus drives right by us freezing and hiking on the side of a major road. The drivers were two old guys that drove too many hours and were swerving in and out of the lanes hitting the notification on the road that you were off your lane and people were beeping at the bus that he was driving in their lane. It was a nightmare and dangerous. The breakfast at the hotel stunk. My son and I didn't eat nor would we ever eat at a golden coral. I would have rather ate a peanut butter sandwich than pull into that dump, yet you send us twice? The only response you send to me from your company is that your so surprised and have not had any issues in the past, when that is a lie and I know at least 10 parents that all have issues and were emailing you as well. What a cover up and we want our money back, not your lame emails. Don't ever use this company or travel anywhere with them as a group. It's a scam!

Montana parents upset over thousands in charges over canceled student trips

global travel alliance photos

BILLINGS — Parents across Montana are voicing frustration with a Montana travel company’s standard cancellation policy amid the COVID-19 pandemic after school trips were canceled and full refunds are not given out.

Now a class-action lawsuit against Global Travel Alliance has been filed, and some 60 complaints have been filed with Montana’s Office of Consumer Protection, where officials say there is an active investigation.

On Friday afternoon, a lawsuit was filed in federal court in Billings on behalf of dozens of Montana families.

Plaintiffs in the suit say Billings-based Global Travel Alliance, which operates in Montana and several other states, breached its own contract cancellation policies as a means to profit from the virus.

Global Travel Alliance works with school districts to lead education travel to Washington, D.C., Costa Rica and Europe and was set to help lead a group of Sacajawea Middle School students from Bozeman through three European countries this June.

The trouble, according to parents, is the trip isn’t being fully refunded despite the unforeseen economic circumstances of the pandemic.

“We’re living in really unusual times and I feel like unusual circumstances call for unusual accommodations,” said Bozeman parent Julie Wrobel.

Wrobel told MTN Investigates she already has paid over $4,000 for the trip that her 8th grade son won’t get to attend.

She says Global Travel Alliance is sticking to its standard cancellation policy even as the virus forced hundreds of school trips across the country to get scrapped.

“The frustrating thing is that Global Travel Alliance is upholding their standard cancellation policy, which is to withhold 30% of the overall trip cost for anybody who cancels this close to the date,” she said. “But we didn't actually cancel.”

Wrobel says parents at her son’s school were emailed on April 21 from Global Travel explaining the company’s cancellation options and asking parents to choose one.

“We received a reminder email of the standard cancellation policy, and the COVID-19 stuff had actually already started so the timing was interesting,” she said.

The email asked parents to choose either a voucher good for 75% of the cost of the trip for following year or a 70% refund on the canceled trip.

Wrobel says for the company to stick to their standard cancellation policy seems unfair considering the current state of the world.

“I have a hard time understanding how they can rationalize keeping 30% of every child's trip cost, which is $1,257,” she said. “I don't understand where that $1,257 is going? And when you multiply that times 18 kids, it means Global Travel Alliance is pocketing over $22,000.”

However, those with Global Travel Alliance told MTN Investigates on a phone call Monday that the travel industry is among the hardest hit and that their financial commitments have already been made.

Although the company didn’t respond to our requests for a taped interview, they did pass along the statement below.

"As a Montana company we have been serving local communities for many years, and we are heartbroken to see any upcoming trips affected due to COVID-19. Planning a group trip requires making financial commitments to our vendors months in advance. Our Standard Cancellation policy takes into account those commitments. We are working on behalf of the families to provide alternatives and larger refunds when available," the statement read.

According to officials with Global Travel Alliance, the company employs roughly 50 people and has not laid off or furloughed employees because the company is staying very busy working to get refunds back from vendors.

“A lot of vendors are not funding refunds as well,” said Steve Maehl, vice president for the company. “All of our travelers agreed to booking conditions.”

Those with Global Travel Alliance also say they understand the frustration from parents and students and that their team is working to get back everything it can from vendors.

“We are in a position where vendors are behind right now,” said Maehl.

However, Wrobel says if that's the case, Global Travel Alliance hasn’t made that clear to parents.

“I haven't seen a list. I don't understand exactly what those costs are,” she said. “And I have a hard time with a business owner, feeling okay with taking $1,257 from 18 eighth graders in order to float the business."

While officials at Bozeman’s Sacajawea Middle school said late Friday afternoon that the school has no money tied up in the trip, they were contacted by the Montana Office of Consumer Protection regarding complaints about Global Travel Alliance.

Wrobel says parents impacted at her school are teaming up to take their complaint higher.

“Collectively we may be represented by a single person from Bozeman who is now in contact with the Office of Consumer Protection,” she said.

She also says her son will be onto high school next year, so the option to use a voucher for the trip is not likely. She also currently has a fifth grader who will be eligible for the same trip in just a few years.

However, she won’t help fund the trip if Global Travel Alliance is the chosen vendor.

MTN Investigates reached back out to officials with Global Travel Alliance late Friday afternoon for comment on the class action lawsuit. We are waiting for a response.

Discover More, Moscow by Ilya Mikhailov

We sent Ilya a  DK Eyewitness Travel Guide: Moscow  to get his perspective on what it means to use a travel guide in his hometown.

Place you live:  Moscow, Russia

Can you sum up Moscow?  Moscow is the capital of Russia. It is the largest and most populous city and the center of economy, politics, science, business and sport. Here historical traditions blend well with contemporary culture.

Can you sum up the people of Moscow?  Russia – a generous soul! Russians do everything with maximum commitment. We are friendly and welcoming, although at first glance we may seem gloomy and discontented.

What was the experience like looking through the DK Eyewitness Travel Guide: Moscow ?  In fact, I was pleasantly surprised! I looked at and read it several times. The guidebook is complete with beautiful photographs and illustrations, lists all the main attractions and even places that are rarely mentioned in other guides. It highlights very large events, as well as the local holidays. Maximum comprehensive information on all aspects of life in the Russian capital!

Did you find anything new or inspiring about your area in the book?  Yes, of course! For myself, it emphasized a few new places that I have never been to and I’m going to go to those spots and make some great photos!

How did the guidebook influence the photos you went out to take of your area?  My house is far from the Kolomenskoye Park . I rarely go out to this wonderful place and do not know much about it. The guidebook allowed me to explore this park and I spent all weekend there.

Tell us about the photos you shot for this project:  I tried to choose different pictures. There are summer and winter pictures, there are historical buildings and modern architecture, there is a crowded place and there are quiet parks, there are daytime and sunset photos. I wanted to show the diversity of Moscow from all sides.

What is a perfect day in Moscow?  I certainly would suggest starting the day with a jog in a park, breakfast in one of the great cafes in the city center and then going to the Tretyakov Gallery or any other museum. Then I would suggest going sailing on the Moscow River!

What do you love about Moscow?  Moscow never sleeps. In contrast to many European cities and capitals, in Moscow everything is always open and working virtually around the clock. You will always find a place where you can drink, eat, take a walk or go to the gym, even late at night. Moscow has one of the most beautiful and cheapest metros in the world, which is now actively built and continues to grow.

What do you dislike? The typical problems of a megacity. Crazy rhythms of the city, social inequality, long-distances and over-population. Most of all I want to note the crazy car traffic as the number of cars continues to grow, which results in endless traffic jams at any time of the day, especially in winter.

What would be surprising about Moscow to an outsider?  Lack of bears in the streets, the blood of the residents is vodka and Red Square is not red. There are a large number of parks in Moscow, all very different and there are always events. I recommend visiting the most popular places for leisure – Gorky Park , Sokolniki , Izmailovo Park and Vorobiovi Gory .

U7+ Alliance of World Universities urges G7 to increase access to higher education

The U7+ Alliance of World University Leaders recently met in Milan and adopted a statement on increasing global access to higher education. The statement was shared with the Italian minister of university and research as an input into Italy's preparations for hosting the G7 summit in June.

UCLA, April 12, 2024  — UCLA Chancellor Gene Block and Vice Provost Cindy Fan recently participated in the April 11–12 meeting of the U7+ Alliance of World Universities at Bocconi University in Milan, where the alliance continued its work to collaboratively address global challenges. Attended by more than 80 university leaders from 18 countries, the meeting adopted the 2024 U7+ Statement on Global Access to Higher Education . On April 11, the alliance officially shared the statement with Anna Maria Bernini, Italian Minister of University and Research. It urges the Group of Nations (G7)* — whose annual summit will be hosted by Italy in mid-June — to partner with U7+ in increasing global access to higher education as a means of enhancing inclusion, building the next generation of leaders and contributing to stable, flourishing societies. Specifically, the statement encourages the G7 to collaborate with the alliance to: • develop high-quality, inclusive education systems from primary through higher education; • support investment in higher education in low- and middle-income countries; • provide funding to support students from marginalized communities, locally and globally; and • support and prioritize visas for students and scholars fleeing oppressive regimes, armed conflict or threats of conflict. The U7+ Alliance unites university presidents from across the globe to address the world’s most pressing challenges at the local, regional and global levels. Created in 2019, the organization’s membership has grown rapidly over the last five years. UCLA joined the alliance in March 2024. Its commitment to advancing collaborative solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges makes the organization a natural partner for UCLA, for whom expanding global reach and impact is a major strategic goal . The University of Toronto currently chairs the Presidential Steering Committee, whose members also include Bocconi University, Georgetown University, Keio University, Université de Montréal, University of Ibadan and University of Mannheim. Northwestern University serves as home to the Alliance Secretariat. * The G7 consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. The European Union is an additional member with all privileges save the right to host or chair a summit. Read the U7+ Alliance press release

Moscow hopes to become first 5G city by 2020

One of the 5G network will be a speed of 100 megabits per second for residents of large cities.

One of the 5G network will be a speed of 100 megabits per second for residents of large cities.

The Moscow mayor's office is in talks with a consortium of mobile operators over the possibility of developing 5G networks, the Kommersant daily reported on April 7. The government is determined to make the project an attractive investment for the operators and hopes the Russian capital will have 5G networks in 2020.

Moscow’s telecom market is divided between four major players: Russian companies Megfon, VimpelCom, and MTS, plus European Tele2 – which entered the fray in 2015. A query from RBTH about a 5G consortium received an optimistic response from Megafon and Tele2, but VimpelCom and MTS decided not to answer.

"The consortium may lay the foundation for the joint development of this technology by all the operators," said Konstantin Prokshin, head of strategic communications at Tele2.

Proposed ‘big data’ law will empower Russians in the digital realm

The support of the authorities is important for telecom operators because such issues as equipment deployment and power supply can often be solved only with the government’s help, explained Yulia Dorokhina, head of the press service at Megafon.

2018 World Cup and rivalry with London

City of London Corp., which runs London's financial center at the municipal level, has announced its plans to switch to the 5G standard as soon as it becomes available, writes The Financial Times. The company has signed a multimillion dollar wireless Internet upgrade contract with Cornerstone, which is owned by the Vodafone and O2 telecom operators.

Global capitals will be competing with each other over which of them will become the first to switch to 5G, said Konstantin Prokshin. The pace at which new technologies are introduced suggests that Moscow can indeed become one of the leaders in the development of 5G, he added. "Moscow's mobile market is one of the most developed in the world, with a low average cost of services and high quality," Prokshin pointed out.

During the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Megafon plans to set up 5G test zones, Yulia Dorokhina said. "One of the main advantages offered by the new network is its huge capacity. The client receives high-quality signal in places of mass gathering of people – stadiums, railway stations, traffic jams," she added.

What is known about 5G today

Exact 5G specifications are still being developed, but one of them – as identified by the Next Generation Mobile Networks alliance – will be a speed of 100 megabits per second for residents of large cities.

"So far, some disparate research experiments have been conducted. What exactly the 'fifth generation' will provide is not quite clear," said Vladimir Korovkin, head of Innovations and Digital Technologies at the Moscow School of Management Skolkovo.

He added that the focus of 5G developers is not to increase the bandwidth of the channel, but to provide a guaranteed high-speed signal and density of coverage. "Both these features are important for mass use of M2M (machine to machine) networks," Korovkin explained.

One of the crucial questions is who will be producing the technical equipment and how the link to international networks will work. For the first time, Chinese companies, in particular Huawei, are taking an active part in creating a new standard, Korovkin pointed out. For example, Megafon has successfully tested mobile data transmission at 1 Gbit/s using Huawei equipment and at 5 Gbit/s during network equipment tests with the Finnish company Nokia, Dorokhina said.

Crowdfunding Terms of Service

Date: August 1, 2022

The Global Travel Alliance ("GTA," "we," "us," or "our") Crowdfunding Service (the "Service") is a proprietary service offered by us exclusively to allow students enrolled in a GTA trip ("Traveler") and their parent or legal guardian ("Parent") to receive donations from donors ("Donors") to assist in the cost of the trip through a trip crowdfunding campaign ("Campaign"). "User," "you" or "your" means anyone who uses our Service or participates in a Campaign including but not limited to a Parent, Traveler and Donor.

Our Service is provided through our website at globaltravelalliance.com.

To utilize the Service, all Users of the Service must agree to our terms and conditions as outlined below, as amended from time to time ("Terms"). BY ACCESSING OR USING OUR SERVICE, OR PARTICIPATING IN A CAMPAIGN, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE READ AND UNDERSTAND THESE TERMS AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THESE TERMS AND ADDITIONAL POLICIES REFERENCED IN THESE TERMS. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO ANY PORTION OF THESE TERMS, YOU SHOULD NOT ACCESS OR OTHERWISE USE THE SERVICE.

ARBITRATION, JURY TRIAL AND CLASS ACTION WAIVER. BY USING THE SERVICE, YOU AGREE THAT DISPUTES BETWEEN YOU AND US WILL BE RESOLVED BY BINDING, INDIVIDUAL ARBITRATION AND YOU WAIVE YOUR RIGHT TO A JURY TRIAL OR TO PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS ACTION. BY USING THE SERVICE, YOU EXPRESSLY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE READ, UNDERSTAND AND AGREE TO THE TERMS IN DISPUTES SECTION BELOW. YOU MAY OPT OUT OF ARBITRATION BY FOLLOWING THE OPT OUT INSTRUCTIONS IN THE DISPUTES SECTION BELOW.

Modifications and Changes

We may modify or change these Terms at our sole discretion at any time without prior notice. Modifications will be posted on our website with the date of revision. Your continued use of the Service following such posting means you have accepted the modified Terms. You may cease usage of the Service at any point should you longer agree with the Terms.

Eligible Users of the Service.

The Service may only be used by users in the United States who are of legal age where they live (typically 18 years of age). If you are under the age of 18, you may only use the Service with the permission and participation of your Parent. By using the Service or participating in a Campaign, you represent and warrant that you are of legal age and have the capacity and authority to agree to these Terms and that you reside in the United States. If you do not meet these requirements, please do not use the Service or make any donations.

Privacy Policy.

Personal data that you provide regarding yourself or others will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy located at globaltravelalliance.com/privacy/ ("Privacy Policy"). Our Privacy Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

Registration.

If you are required to register or create an account to use the Service, you agree to provide at all times true, accurate, current and complete information about yourself (and any person on whose behalf you are providing information for a Campaign such as the Traveler) as prompted by our registration processes. Registration data and certain other information about you or other persons that you submit to the Service are governed by these Terms, including our Privacy Policy. To the extent you share with us any personal data of any third party for any purpose (such a Traveler or Donor name) including the names, email addresses and phone numbers of any third party, photos, or other information, you represent to us that you have the authority (including any necessary consents), as required under applicable law, to provide us with such personal data and allow us to use such personal data for the purposes for which you shared it with us or as set forth in our Privacy Policy.

You may also be required to register with, and agree to the terms of service and other policies of our third-party service providers (e.g., Payment Processors as discussed below). Registration data and information you submit to them is governed by their terms of service and their privacy policy.

Information that is false or violates these Terms or a Payment Processor's terms of service is grounds for immediate suspension or cancellation by us of your use of the Service or by any such third party with respect to its services.

Payment Processors.

We use third-party payment processing partners to process donations for a Campaign ("Payment Processors"). You acknowledge and agree that the use of Payment Processors are integral to the Service and that we exchange information with Payment Processors in order to facilitate the provision of the Service. By using the Service, you agree to the processing, use, transfer or disclosure of data by the Payment Processors pursuant to these Terms as well as any and all applicable terms set forth by the applicable Payment Processors. Our current Payment Processor is Braintree whose terms of service and privacy policy is available here https://www.braintreepayments.com/legal.

Our Payment Processors deposit donations made by Donors into our account and we automatically apply them to the applicable Traveler's trip.

Donations by Donors are subject to Platform Fees. See Platform Fees below.

Terms for Parents and Travelers.

  • We makes no assurances or guarantees regarding the success of any Campaign or how many donations, if any, will be made.
  • The Service is only available when trips are being paid for in monthly installments as selected through our parent registration portal. Parents and Travelers are responsible for their regularly scheduled monthly payments if/when donations do not meet the monthly payment(s).
  • Donations will be applied automatically as received and will automatically reduce monthly payment(s) in chronological order (first, to all scheduled payments currently due and then to the next upcoming scheduled payments, etc. until fully applied).
  • Any Donation that is later declined will be removed from an account and reversed and schedule of monthly payments affected will be automatically updated as outstanding.
  • Donations will automatically be limited through the Service to the entire trip cost excluding the refundable deposit and Trip Protection Plan (if elected).
  • There is no fee to set up a Campaign; however, donations by Donors are subject to Platform Fees. See Platform Fees below.
  • If Parents or Travelers cancel a trip, donations made via the Service are nonrefundable to Donor and are not payable to Parent or Traveler but will be used to pay the unpaid balance of the cost of the Trip excluding the refundable deposit and Trip Protection Plan (if elected).
  • By using the Service, Parents for themselves and on behalf of any Traveler, represent, warrant to us and agree that: (a) all information provided to the Service in connection with a Campaign is accurate and complete; (b) all donations will be automatically withdrawn and applied through the Service and used to pay down the cost of the Trip and you will not be able to withdraw donations; and (c) GTA is not responsible for any offers, promises or rewards made or offered in exchange for donations including any tax implications.

Terms related to Donations.

  • Platform Fees. Donations made on the Service are subject to Platform Fees of 3.5% which are automatically deducted/charged at the time each donation is made. Platform Fees comprise standard credit/debit charges imposed by Payment Processors and a service fee to us to maintain and support the Service (the "Platform Fees"). At no time are Platform Fees waived or refunded.
  • We make no representations or warranties as to the tax-deductible nature of donations or Platform Fees. Parents, Travelers and Donors agree we have no liability for any claim by any tax authority with respect to the characterization of a donation on any tax return. Please consult your tax advisor. We are not a charitable organization.
  • We are not responsible for any agreements or promises made or offered by Donors, Travelers or Parents in connection with making a donation and have no liability for any claim by any federal, state, local or any other tax authority with respect to any such agreement or promise.

Terms for Donors.

  • All donations are at the Donor's risk. While the Service is provided solely to Travelers (and their Parents) enrolled in a GTA trip as a means of crowdfunding their trip expenses, we make no representation, warranty or assurances regarding the Traveler's intent to travel and do not guaranty their participation in the enrolled trip.
  • Donor will be required to provide us information regarding the Donor's credit/debit card or other payment instrument ("Payment Instrument") that is linked to the Donor's bank account or credit/debit card ("Donor Account"). You, as a Donor, represent and warrant to us that such information is true, current and accurate and that you are authorized to use the applicable Payment Instrument. We use third-party Payment Processors as described above to process through your Payment Instrument and/or Donor Account for any donations made, and Donors acknowledge that by making a donation, the Donor agrees to the processing, use, transfer or disclosure of data by the Payment Processors and us pursuant to these Terms as well as any and all applicable terms set forth by our partners. Our current Payment Processors include Braintree. See Payment Processors above.
  • Donations are final and not refundable in all cases even if the Traveler cancels the trip for any reason and even if Trip Protection Plan has been purchased. In the rare event that a trip is canceled by us due to low enrollment only, we will attempt to refund those donations, less Platform Fees, to the original form of payment if still active.
  • Donors may elect to remain anonymous at the time of donation. If a donation is not made anonymously, we reserve the right to share the donor name, amount, and email with the beneficiary for the purposes of thanking the donor should they wish.

Limitation on Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PROVIDED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WE DISCLAIM AND IN NO EVENT WILL WE, OUR AFFILIATES AND OUR AND THEIR RESPECTIVE SHAREHOLDERS, OWNERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, LICENSORS, SERVICE PROVIDERS, SUCCESSORS AND ASSIGNS (COLLECTIVELY, THE "GTA GROUP") BE LIABLE TO YOU OR TO ANY THIRD PARTY FOR ANY CLAIM OR DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF, RELATED TO OR IN CONNECTION WITH (A) YOUR USE, OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, (B) ANY UNCOLLECTED DONATIONS BY DONORS, (C) UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS TO OR ALTERATION OF YOUR TRANSMISSIONS OR DATA; (D) STATEMENTS OR CONDUCT OF ANY THIRD PARTY ON THE SERVICE; OR (E) ANY OTHER MATTER RELATING TO THE SERVICE, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES OF ANY NATURE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, PERSONAL INJURY, PAIN AND SUFFERING, EMOTIONAL DISTRESS, LOSS OF PROFITS, LOSS OF USE, LOSS OF GOODWILL, LOSS OR CORRUPTION OF DATA, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES OR UNDER ANY LEGAL OR EQUITABLE THEORY, WHETHER IN TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), CONTRACT, STRICT LIABILITY, OR OTHERWISE, EVEN IF WE OR THE GTA GROUP HAS BEEN ADVISED OF, KNEW, OR SHOULD HAVE KNOW OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES AND EVEN IF DIRECT DAMAGES DO NOT SATISFY A REMEDY. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PROVIDED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL THE GTA GROUP'S TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL DAMAGES, LOSSES (INCLUDING CONTRACT, NEGLIGENCE, STATUTORY LIABILITY OR OTHERWISE) OR CAUSES OF ACTION EXCEED THE AMOUNT OF ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($100). THESE LIMITATIONS SHALL APPLY NOTWITHSTANDING ANY FAILURE OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF ANY REMEDY.

SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF CERTAIN WARRANTIES OR LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY FOR CERTAIN DAMAGES, SO ALL OR A PORTION OF THE FOREGOING MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU, AND IN THOSE JURISDICTIONS, THE LIABILITY OF THE GTA GROUP SHALL BE EXCLUDED OR LIMITED TO THE FULL EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

Indemnification

You hereby agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless all members of the GTA Group from and against any claims, demands, liabilities, damages, judgments, awards, losses, costs, expenses or fees (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, your User Content, any unpaid or uncollected donations made by you or related to your Campaign, or your violation of any rights of another.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING TERMS CAREFULLY; THEY CONTAIN MANDATORY, NON-PERMISSIVE ARBITRATION REQUIREMENTS. SEE ARBITRATION OPT OUT RIGHT BELOW IF YOU WISH TO OPT OUT OF THE REQUIREMENT OF ARBITRATION ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS.

Arbitration; Jury Trial and Class Action Waiver. YOU AGREE THAT ALL DISPUTES (EACH A "DISPUTE" AND COLLECTIVELY, THE "DISPUTES") BETWEEN YOU AND US OR ANY OF OUR OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS AND ADVISORS ACTING IN THEIR CAPACITY AS SUCH (WHETHER OR NOT SUCH DISPUTE INVOLVES A THIRD PARTY) WITH REGARD TO YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH US, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION DISPUTES RELATED TO THESE TERMS OF SERVICE, YOUR USE OF THE SERVICES, ANY DONATIONS, OR ANY OTHER MATTER OR CLAIMS, WILL BE RESOLVED BY BINDING, INDIVIDUAL ARBITRATION. DISCOVERY AND RIGHTS TO APPEAL IN ARBITRATION ARE GENERALLY MORE LIMITED THAN IN A LAWSUIT, AND OTHER RIGHTS THAT YOU AND WE WOULD HAVE IN COURT MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE IN ARBITRATION. YOU UNDERSTAND AND AGREE THAT, BY ENTERING INTO THESE TERMS, YOU AND WE ARE EACH WAIVING OUR RIGHT TO A TRIAL BY JURY OR TO PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS ACTION.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, nothing in these Terms will be deemed to waive, preclude, or otherwise limit the right of either of us to (a) bring an individual action in small claims court; (b) pursue an enforcement action through the applicable federal, state, or local agency if that action is available; (c) seek injunctive relief in a court of law; or (d) file suit in a court of law to address an intellectual property infringement claim.

This is an arbitration agreement enforceable under and subject to the Federal Arbitration Act, 9 U.S.C. § 1 et seq.

  • If you or we intend to seek arbitration of a Dispute, that party shall provide written notice to the other by certified U.S. Mail or by Federal Express (signature required) or, only if the other party has not provided a current physical address, then by electronic mail ("Notice of Arbitration"). A Notice of Arbitration to us shall be sent to the following address: 12750 Nicollet Ave, Suite 210, Burnsville MN 55337. A Notice of Arbitration shall: (1) describe the nature and basis of the claim or Dispute ("Demand"); and (2) set forth the specific relief sought. You and we agree to use good faith efforts to resolve the Dispute directly for a period of 60 days after a Notice of Arbitration is received. If this is unsuccessful, you or we may commence an arbitration proceeding as set forth herein.
  • All Disputes shall be finally settled by arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") in accordance with the provisions of its Consumer Arbitration Rules (the "Rules"). If you file arbitration, you will incur a nonrefundable filing fee, payable on filing, pursuant to the fee schedule set forth in the Rules. Other than such filing fee, we will pay AAA's fees and the arbitrator's costs and expenses if your claims are $5,000 are less in the aggregate as set forth in your Notice of Arbitration, unless the arbitrator determines you filed a Dispute that is frivolous, for the sole purpose of being vexatious or to annoy, or the Dispute was filed for improper purposes as determined by the arbitrator, then the payment of such fess will be governed by the AAA Rules. For claims over $5,000 in the aggregate as set forth in your Notice of Arbitration, the payment of the arbitrator's costs and expenses or other non-filing fees will be governed by the AAA Rules.
  • AAA's rules and procedures governing the filing and process of AAA consumer arbitration, as well as the AAA consumer arbitration fee schedule, can be found in the Rules, available at www.adr.org. The Rules may be amended from time to time and are subject to change.
  • The arbitration will be heard and determined by a single neutral arbitrator selected by the AAA who is a retired judge or a lawyer with not less than 15 years of experience as a practicing member of the bar in the substantive practice area related to the Dispute, who will administer the arbitration in accordance with the Rules. The arbitrator will apply applicable law (pursuant to the Miscellaneous Governing Law section below) and the provisions of this arbitration agreement and the terms and conditions of the Terms will determine any Dispute. Regardless of the manner in which the arbitration is conducted, the arbitrator must issue a reasoned written decision sufficient to explain the essential findings and conclusions on which the decision and award, if any, are based. Judgment on the award rendered by the arbitrator may be entered in any court having jurisdiction thereof.
  • If an in-person arbitration hearing is required, it will be conducted at the AAA's office in a location reasonably convenient to and agreed upon by you and us, which agreement shall not be unreasonably withheld by either you or us. If the parties are unable to agree on a location, the arbitrator shall decide the location or if the parties agree, the hearing may be held via remote or phone hearing.
  • In arbitration, as in court, the arbitrator must honor the terms of this arbitration agreement and the Terms and can award the prevailing party damages and other relief (including attorneys' fees). However, WITH ARBITRATION (1) THERE IS NO JUDGE OR JURY, (2) THE ARBITRATION PROCEEDINGS AND ARBITRATION OUTCOME ARE SUBJECT TO CERTAIN CONFIDENTIALITY RULES, AND (3) JUDICIAL REVIEW OF THE ARBITRATION OUTCOME IS LIMITED.
  • We and you each agree to keep the arbitration proceedings, all information exchanged between us, and any settlement offers confidential, unless otherwise required by law or requested by law enforcement or any court or governmental body. However, we may each disclose these matters, in confidence, to our respective accountants, auditors, and insurance providers. All parties to the arbitration will have the right, at their own expense, to be represented by an attorney or other advocate of their choosing.

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, ANY DISPUTE YOU MAY HAVE ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE MUST BE COMMENCED WITHIN ONE (1) YEAR AFTER THE CAUSE OF ACTION ACCRUES, OTHERWISE, SUCH CAUSE OF ACTION OR CLAIM IS PERMANENTLY BARRED. We may bring an action at any time relating to our intellectual property rights.

YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO OPT OUT OF THIS AGREEMENT TO ARBITRATE BY PROVIDING WRITTEN NOTICE TO US EITHER AS SET FORTH IN THE NOTICE OF DISPUTES SECTION ABOVE OR BY EMAILING TO US YOUR OPT OUT NOTICE TO THE EMAIL ADDRESS SET FORTH IN THE MISCELLANEOUS - NOTICE SECTION BELOW, IN EITHER CASE WITHIN 30 DAYS OF THIS AGREEMENT BECOMING BINDING. Such notification must include: (1) your name; (2) your email address; (3) your mailing address, and (4) a statement that you do not wish to resolve Disputes through arbitration. This notification affects only this arbitration agreement; if you previously entered into other arbitration agreements with us or enter into other such agreements in the future, your notification that you are opting out of the arbitration provision in these Terms shall not affect the other arbitration agreements between you and us.

IN THE EVENT THAT YOU PROPERLY OPT OUT OF THIS AGREEMENT TO ARBITRATE IN ACCORDANCE HEREWITH, YOU AND WE AGREE THAT THE EXCLUSIVE JURISDICTION, VENUE AND OTHER AGREEMENTS SET FORTH IN THE MISCELLANEOUS - GOVERNING LAW SECTION BELOW WILL GOVERN ANY DISPUTE OR ACTION ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE.

(end of arbitration agreement provisions)

MISCELLANEOUS

With respect to any disputes or claims not subject to arbitration, as set forth above, all notices required to be given to you shall be deemed to have been duly given if in writing and sent to the e-mail address on file with us or other known address. You are responsible to provide us with any changes to your e-mail address.

All notices required to be given to us (including any arbitration opt out notice) shall be deemed to have been duly given if in writing and sent to [email protected].

Entire Agreement.

The Terms and our Privacy Policy constitute the sole and entire agreement between you and us with respect to the Service and supersede all prior and contemporaneous understandings, agreements, representations and warranties, both written and oral, with respect to our Service. You also may be subject to additional terms of service that may apply when you use affiliate or third-party services, third-party content or third-party software as referenced in these Terms.

Severability; Waiver.

If any provision of these Terms shall be deemed unlawful, void or for any reason unenforceable, then that provision shall be deemed severable from these Terms and shall not affect the validity and enforceability of any remaining provisions. Our failure to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms will not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.

Governing Law.

All matters relating to the Service and these Terms and any dispute or laim arising therefrom or related thereto, shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the internal laws of the State of Minnesota without giving effect to any choice or conflict of law provision or rule (whether of the State of Minnesota or any other jurisdiction).

WITH RESPECT TO ANY DISPUTES OR CLAIMS NOT SUBJECT TO ARBITRATION, AS SET FORTH ABOVE, YOU AND WE EACH HEREBY (A) IRREVOCABLY AGREE THAT ANY SUIT, ACTION OR OTHER LEGAL PROCEEDING ("SUIT") ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH OR DUE TO ANY CLAIM OR DISPUTE THAT HAS ARISEN OR MAY ARISE BETWEEN YOU AND US MUST BE RESOLVED EXCLUSIVELY BY A STATE OR FEDERAL COURT LOCATED IN HENNEPIN COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, IRRESPECTIVE OF CHOICE-OF-VENUE RULES; (B) CONSENT TO THE EXCLUSIVE JURISDICTION AND VENUE OF SUCH COURT IN ANY SUCH SUIT; (C) WAIVES ANY OBJECTION THAT YOU OR WE MAY HAVE TO JURISDICTION OR VENUE OF ANY SUCH SUIT; (D) CONSENT TO SERVICE OF PROCESS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE NOTICE PROVISIONS AS SET FORTH IN THE MISCELLANEOUS - NOTICE SECTION ABOVE; AND (E) WAIVE ANY RIGHT TO TRIAL BY JURY IN ANY SUCH SUIT, AND, TO THE FULLEST EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW, ANY RIGHT TO PURSUE OR TO PARTICIPATE AS A PLAINTIFF OR AS A CLASS MEMBER IN ANY SUIT ON A CLASS OR CONSOLIDATED BASIS OR IN A REPRESENTATIVE CAPACITY.

ANY DISPUTE, CAUSE OF ACTION OR CLAIM YOU MAY HAVE ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE SERVICE MUST BE COMMENCED WITHIN ONE (1) YEAR AFTER THE CAUSE OF ACTION ACCRUES, OTHERWISE, SUCH CAUSE OF ACTION OR CLAIM IS PERMANENTLY BARRED.
