Has anyone had any experience with the Travelmate? Are there any other great products that I'm missing? I look forward to hearing any advice! Thanks!

I dont know about the travelmate but we tried that zip up with wheels and it broke first time we used it! Useless. We tried another bag that had a strap on your back. Much better. In the end, my husband said the easiest was to just carry the seat in his hand! Ours was super light weight though.

We're in the same situation, and I'd like to see who else will write to this post. Going international and carrying car seats is no fun!

Make sure the Britax will fit on the airline seats though - some have too wide of a base.

Yeah you might want to double check on the Marathon fitting into the seat. At the very least you would probably have to make sure the arm rests were up and it would cut into the space of the person next to it quite a bit. I suggest you check out the info on http://www.car-seat.org and maybe post your question there. That site was very helpful to me a few months ago when we were preparing for our first trip with a child (9 month old).

After some research and reccomendations we made the following decisions/purchases for our trips and were happy with all the results.

To store the car seat (we didn't use it on the plane on every flight ) we bought a simple zip up carrier. After reading several reviews we ended up buying one of the cheapest ones out there and it was fine and actually way more durable than I expected for $15. It was called "The Easy Tote" made by Sunshine Kids. We looked into the onese with wheels but figured our hands would be too busy with rolling luggage or pushing a stroller to also roll the car seat.

The last and probably best thing we got was a nice travel stroller, a Chicco Capri. We are so happy with this stroller and use it a lot for travel. It comes with its own travel bag to gate check it in. Chicco is not as upscale as some other brands but our original thought was we didn't want to spend $100+ on something just to have it wrecked in the luggage compartment but that stroller has now been on 2 across country plane trips and several more local trips and not a problem yet.

As for rental cars in the US rental companies do not automatically provide you with a car seat, you can request one for an additional fee. That fee typically $10 to $20 a day can quickly add up to the price of more than it would cost to by a car seat, plus you have no idea what you will end up with for a seat.

This might be a stupid question but you mentioned getting a luggage cart AFTER you go through security ? Where do you get these ?

Does LAX have these ? At the domestic and international terminals ?

At one point you could get a cart after security from the machines like they have by luggage claim. They were a couple of bucks. Some even had seats for kids like grocery carts. With that said though, since we had our third - flying has not been an option lately (too costly) so I am not sure if these are still available after all of the security changes.

Thanks. Domestic is through Southwest or American and Int'l is with Thai airways. I've never seen them at LAX before inside, but again its been 2 years since I went to LAX. Been sticking with BUR since then.
