Holland America Line Is Offering 50% Off 2022 and 2023 Cruises — If You Book Soon

The sale celebrates the return of the cruise line's full fleet.

Holland America Line is offering a month-long sale with up to 50% off cruise fares and other perks, the cruise line told Travel + Leisure .

The company's " Celebration Sale " comes as the cruise line plans to have its full fleet back in service this month. To take advantage, travelers must book a cruise by June 30 and sail by Sept. 30, 2023.

"Having our full fleet of 11 ships back in service after more than two years on pause is cause for celebration, and the promotion is our way of thanking guests for their loyalty and choosing to cruise with Holland America Line," Beth Bodensteiner, the chief commercial officer of Holland America Line, said in a statement provided to T+L. "The Celebration Sale crosses all of our global destinations, and the perks make it more affordable to book a dream vacation now."

The sale is valid on 2022 and 2023 sailings throughout the company's network, including to the Caribbean , Mexico , Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, the Panama Canal, Canada and New England , Hawaii , the U.S. Pacific Coast, and the South Pacific. The sale is also valid on sailings in Alaska as well as on Alaska Cruisetours, which combine an Alaska cruise with a land tour to Denali National Park and the Yukon .

Travelers can also book the promotion for cruises to South America and Antarctica , as well as to New Zealand and Australia , which dropped its ban on cruise ships in April.

The sale is not valid on Grand Voyages or on itineraries that are three days or less.

In addition to discounts on the actual fare, travelers who book the sale will receive $50 in onboard spending money per guest — which can be used for everything from specialty dining to spa treatments and even shore excursions — and 50% reduced deposits. Guests can also combine the sale with Holland America's "Have It All" cruise fares, which include shore excursions, a beverage package, specialty dining, and a Wi-Fi package.

To offer travelers peace of mind, Holland America has extended its "Worry-Free Promise" to Dec. 31, 2022, allowing guests on all cruises booked by Sept. 30 to cancel for any reason up to 30 days before their departure and receive a credit for a future cruise. Travelers who test positive for COVID-19 within 30 days of a sailing will also receive a credit for a future cruise if booked by Sept. 30.

Holland America Extends Worry-Free Promise Through December

Holland America Line is giving consumers the confidence to make travel plans through the end of the year with the extension of its “Worry-Free Promise” to Dec. 31, 2022, for all cruises booked by Sept. 30, 2022.

According to a statement, under the promise’s Flexible Cancellation Plan, guests who make a new booking by Sept. 30, 2022, for itineraries that depart on or before Dec. 31, can cancel for any reason up to 30 days before departure and receive a Future Cruise Credit.

“Guests are thrilled to be back on board and exploring new adventures,” said Beth Bodensteiner, chief commercial officer for Holland America Line. “We want everyone to feel comfortable when booking one of our great cruise offers available right now, knowing that they will be covered if their plans change.”

In addition, Holland America Line has added the COVID-19 Protection Program that provides further peace of mind for guests within 30 days of embarkation who may be unable to travel because of a positive test for COVID-19. Under the program, which also applies to bookings prior to Sept. 30, 2022, that depart on or before Dec. 31, guests who cannot travel due to a positive test or new governmental travel restriction will be eligible for a Future Cruise Credit.

In 2015, after both my parents had passed on and our kids were grown and on their own and not able to come home for Christmas, my husband and I went on a cruise on Celebrity. I even took a small decorated Christmas tree for our room! It was a different Christmas, but fun. We’ve also done 2 New Year’s Eve cruises on Holland America. They were great, also.

For the past few days I have been trying to decide if I should start a Rotterdam Christmas thread, or just post comments in the Daily. Well, I think it is better to have a separate thread, so here it is.

I arrived in Fort Lauderdale 12/20 after an interesting day. I had purchased the monitored version of the Binax Covid test and planned to use it before leaving for the airport. I started the process by downloading the app, then started the process on my phone. I got thru the first phase only to find that my phone failed the test for some reason. Luckily I have a tablet that passed and I was able to use it. A short time later I had my negative test so I was good to go.

After a short ride (relatively) to the airport I had a long wait for the flight. A nice lunch at an airport restaurant helped and the games on my tablet also helped. The flight to Fort Lauderdale was uneventful and I got to the hotel without a problem.

Today has been very relaxing and I have made arrangements to check out at noon. My check-in time is 12:40 so that works out about right.

When I board Rotterdam tomorrow it will be 1 day short of 25 months since I departed Noordam in Auckland NZ after a great cruise that departed Vancouver 40 days prior. Like many others, I have had quite a few cruises canceled over the past 2 years.

Although I am starting this thread, I welcome anyone on the cruise to add their comments and pictures.

Have been here on Rotterdam since Dec 12th. Will be here til Jan 16th.

Had dinner in MDR tonight. Returned the lobster. Chef came out and agreed the lobster was too far cooked and will take it down to 2nd level kitchen personally.

We are having a whopper of a storm right now, sitting in Crow's Nest after dinner. The lightning and thunder are actually quite beautiful up here. The rain sounds like a warm blanket wrapped around the ship.

Christmas music has started playing in between other music venues. The gingerbread village and train are up and running. Walls of fresh orchids decorate Tamarind, Dutch Cafe, Front Desk.. Beautiful! 

Looking forward to seeing you and fellow Daily-ites tomorrow in Ocean Bar.

PS.. You do know all our Daily-ites will be visiting both posts, right? It will be like the "Daily-ites at Sea on Rotterdam Inaugural Voyage"

Rich and all, I'm really looking forward to hearing your stories from the Rotterdam.  I had decided that I didn't want to ever cruise on the Pinnacle class ships....too dam big I thought.....BUT, I just booked a veranda cabin on the Rotterdam for next November because of the unique Caribbean itinerary.  Now I'm excited to hear all things Rotterdam!  Thank you for sharing with us and Merry Christmas everyone!

New ‘Dutch Day’ on Every Cruise Celebrates Holland America Line’s Heritage with Themed Culinary Experiences

Daelmans Stroopwafel partnership offers a variety of sweet treats, while new special menus and the Orange Party highlight Holland America Line’s rich Dutch history

Seattle, Wash., April 26, 2024 — Holland America Line is introducing a new “Dutch Day” experience that celebrates the cruise line’s more than 150-year-history that began in the Netherlands. Whether sailing in Alaska, Europe, Asia or the Caribbean, many Dutch culinary favorites will be featured on board for the special day.

The centerpiece of Dutch Day will be a themed Dutch Dinner served once per cruise in the main Dining Room, with many of the dishes also offered in the casual Lido Market. Additionally, Holland America Line's popular Orange Party will be held on Dutch Day, and guests can enjoy fresh-made poffertjes in Crow’s Nest Café.  A new partnership with Daelmans Stroopwafel includes delectable desserts featuring the Dutch staple and a Daelmans Stroopwafel turn-down pillow treat in every stateroom.

“Holland America Line remains deeply connected to our roots in the Netherlands, and Dutch Day is the perfect way to honor our history through experiences that celebrate the culinary culture of the country,” said Michael Stendebach, vice president of food, beverage and rooms division for Holland America Line. “Our guests appreciate special touches like Daelmans Stroopwafel for turn down or a dish in the dining room that is distinctly Dutch, and we’re excited to expand the cultural experience for an entire day to showcase more of our heritage.”

Culinary traditions run deep in the Netherlands, and the special themed Dutch Dinner in the Dining Room features an extensive menu that includes both classic and contemporary Dutch delicacies. The selection of starters features a Bay Shrimp Cocktail with Dutch cocktail sauce, Erwten Soep (Dutch Pea Soup), and Mushroom Cream puff pastry with hollandaise sauce.

Dutch-inspired main course selections include Bami Goreng, a stir-fried noodle dish with chicken sate and peanut sauce; Pan-Fried Dover Sole with lemon butter; and Hodge Podge Klapstuk with chateau potatoes. For dessert, a Bosche Bol (large, chocolate covered cream puff), Tompouce (Dutch mille-feuille pastry) or a slice of traditional Dutch Apple Pie provide the perfect sweet ending to the meal. 

In collaboration with Daelmans Stroopwafels — a family-owned bakery founded in the Netherlands in 1904, renowned for its authentic recipe —Dutch Day will feature Stroopwafel Cheesecake for dessert on the dinner menu in the Dining Room and Lido Market and a Stroopwafel Napoleon at tea time. Select bars will serve a Stroopwafel Liqueur with hints of cinnamon and caramel only on ships in Europe. Additionally, in place of the traditional stateroom turn-down chocolate, guests will find a Daelmans Stroopwafel waiting for them on their pillow.

New in Crow’s Nest Café on all ships, fresh-made poffertjes — a traditional Dutch treat resembling small, fluffy pancakes — will be available daily (not just on Dutch Day) for a nominal charge.

Popular Orange Party Held on Dutch Day

Once per cruise, Holland America Line holds the Orange Party with live music, cocktails and treats, and now it will be held on Dutch Day. The Orange Party pays homage to the company’s Dutch heritage (orange is the color of the Dutch Royal Family, which hails from the House of Orange), and guests are invited to wear orange attire and accessories. During the after-dinner festivities, special orange-themed cocktails are available while servers pass around finger-foods and sweets.

Dutch Day is part of Holland America Line’s programming that offers authentic experiences to immerse guests in the culture, history and traditions of the places visited on each cruise.
