The city from the water

Amsterdam boasts over 100 kilometres of canals and more than 1500 bridges. During the Golden Age, many of the canals were built, including the popular Herengracht, Prinsengracht and Keizersgracht. Amsterdam’s canals are unique and are listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. An Amsterdam boat tour lends itself perfectly to admiring the symbol of the capital from the water.

Did you know that the canals were, and still are, incredibly important for Amsterdam for several reasons? The canals kept buildings dry, allowed merchants to transport goods through the city more easily, and made it easier to defend the city. Nowadays, the waters are still crowded with, for example, our canal cruise Amsterdam or our private boat tour. It gives you a unique view of the characteristic canal houses. From elegant mansions on the Keizersgracht to converted warehouses on the Brouwersgracht. Our experienced and local boatmen will tell you the best facts about them.

Romantic Amsterdam

The many green trees and romantic bridges give a soft character to the city centre. The Skinny Bridge is beautifully lit in the evening, decorated with hanging flower boxes and parked bicycles, and has been labelled as Amsterdam’s most romantic spot. It is definitely worth taking a photo as you sail past it during our canal cruise Amsterdam. Another photo-worthy bridge is the one on the corner of the Reguliersgracht and Herengracht. That’s not because the bridge itself is so beautiful, but because it gives you a great view over 15 bridges and many canal houses that are stated tight against the water. And if you’re already busy with taking pictures, then grab your opportunity to take a beautiful picture of the Golden Bend where Amsterdam’s most beautiful canal houses are stated.

A unique canal cruise in Amsterdam

At Flagship Amsterdam, we offer you a unique experience on Amsterdam’s canals. Our local skippers and friendly hosts are waiting for you on our public canal cruises. With the luxury saloon boat canal cruise with cheese and wine, you sail past many sights in the city centre and learn about the history and secrets of Amsterdam! The package with wine and cheese is highly recommended, according to many travellers on Tripadvisor: ”Very good wine and a cheese board were the icing on the cake”. On our public canal cruises, you will be on board with a small group of people, which allows you to interact with our skipper and host. They will tell you more about the secrets, facts, and history of Amsterdam in an accessible way, filled with humour. With the Amsterdam evening canal cruise, you will discover romantic Amsterdam and enjoy the illuminated streets and bridges on a 100% electric boat.

With a package of Flagship Amsterdam, you will create a unique experience on Amsterdam’s canals. Do you fancy a drink with friends, family, or colleagues on a sunny afternoon, or opt for a full meal with burgers or pizza? Take a look at our foodbook and look at the endless possibilities we offer.

Besides public boat tours and all-inclusive arrangements, you can also opt for a private boat tour. A private boat tour is ideal for many occasions, such as a bachelor party, a birthday party, a business trip or an ultimate tour through the city centre of Amsterdam. Decide where you want to go yourself, or be surprised by a beautiful route chosen by our skipper. A private boat tour is for anyone who is looking for a great way to discover the canals of Amsterdam. 1 hour Amsterdam Boat Tour

Explore Amsterdam's canals on the one-hour canal cruise that departs from the Anne Frank House.

Amsterdam is laced with 100km of waterways, so there is no better way to observe the essence of the Dutch capital than from a canal boat. Therefore, an Amsterdam canal cruise is compulsory for anybody visiting the ‘Venice of the North.’ Wind past points of interest such as grand merchant houses, gothic churches, museums, and medieval buildings as you soak up the city’s history with the help of an audio guide.

This canal tour starts at the very heart of the city, right near the Anne Frank House on the Prinsengracht. From here each cruise takes a different path through the city, depending on the amount of traffic on the canals and the size of the boat. Sights you will definitely see include the World Heritage-listed 17th-century canals and the cities iconic architecture. Enjoy the sights along the most famous of the waterways, from our starting point on the Prinsengracht to the Herengracht and Keizersgracht.

As you travel through Amsterdam's neighbourhoods, such as the Jordaan, the Nine Streets or the Pijp, you might see sights such as the Amstel river which gave the city its name, the National Maritime Museum or the iconic Skinny bridge. The tour is significantly enriched by an audio tour in 19 languages and observations from the captain.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

I would gladly deal with Tours and Tickets again. Very professional. Read more Written April 15, 2024
  • Joan H 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Never again would I use this company We chose a trip through Viator, operated by Buendia. We travelled from Amsterdam to Bruges. The meeting place we were given was not actually the meeting place. Close, but not exact. The “guide” did not have any bit of clothing or signage that said Buendia, even though we were told they would. Not one but of commentary was given on the bus, not even “we are now entering Belgium”. We were told that on the way back, we would not be stopping at all. Far too long with no bathroom for some people. Our trip started at 8:30. There was no eating on the bus of course. When we got to Bruges, the walking tour started immediately after a bathroom break and it was not over until 2:30. We left our hotel room at 7:15 in the morning, with no inkling that we would not have another meal until 2:30. Bruges was very busy. I think it was cruise ship day. Our guide walked briskly ahead, talking nonstop. Ordinarily that’s exactly what I want in a walking tour. But our group was large and so were the crowds, so everyone was strung out way behind her. Those transmitters are not meant to transmit so far away. MANY could not hear her. A young man ran up and told her all that but it made no difference at all. Take the train. Cheaper. Bathrooms. Convenient. Don’t take Buendia. Read more Written April 14, 2024
  • 376greggj 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles More than worth the price This experience was 5/5 easily. My guides Laura and Astrid as well as Steph our driver were extremely attentive and informative. More importantly they were warm and friendly and created a fun and safe environment. The tour goes by fast but I highly recommend it for anyone that wants to maximize their time. Four cities in 7 hours was worth it. Especially the cheese! Read more Written April 14, 2024
  • Familytravelmaven 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles 7 million tulips in bloom…. Fantastic! If you find yourself in Amsterdam during the first two weeks of April, you MUST visit Keukenhof. 7 million tulip bulbs in perfect bloom designed inside a lovely park. The photos don’t even do it justice as you must stroll and smell the beautiful flowers. The buses depart from the train station for the 40 min ride to the park and they give you 3 hours to explore… which you will need all that time! Most enjoyable! Read more Written April 12, 2024
  • bushy23 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Don't waste your money Unfortunately I had to give this 1 star......its not even worth that! Purchased a 48hr bus tour ticket. Waited at stop 10 for an hour between 9:30-10:30. Not a single bus came past. Gave up and walked to ticket office to ask for a refund. No refunds available, neither could our ticket be swapped for boat trip instead. E mailing company for a refund. • melissam833 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Don't book audio tour, company employees unfriendly I booked through Viator. The tour described said it was an audio tour and also included a canal cruise. The meeting place was in the back of the Central Station and not very well described. We got on the bus and were handed headphones. The ride out to the gardens was fine but absolutely NO AUDIO. We then got off the bus and were shown on a sign what time it would depart. We returned 15 minutes earlier and asked other bus drivers about our bus as they were parked in our designated meeting area. They were very unpleasant and unhelpful. They said we should have gotten the bus number- our driver did not suggest that, just the return time. A little pleasantness and explanation would have been friendly. Nothing came up about the canal cruise and when I asked no one associated with the tour group seemed to know. The gardens were beautiful but given we had no audio tour there or back and were completly on our own at the gardens I could have gotten a less expensive ride. I asked for a partial refund and was given 10 euros. Read more Written April 10, 2024

Moscow metro tour: architectural styles of the subway.

boat tour anne frank house

Duration: 2 hours

Categories: Culture & History, Sightseeing

This metro tour of Russia’s capital and most populous city, Moscow, is your chance to get a unique insight into the beautiful and impressive architecture of the city's underground stations. Admire their marble walls and high ceilings representing Stalin's desire for glory after World War 2, and see first-hand how the interiors change with the rise of new political eras. Your guide will lead you through the complex network, which is one of the most heavily used rapid transit systems worldwide, with over two billion travelers in 2011.

Opened in 1935, Moscow’s underground system, now 190 miles (305 km) long with 185 stations, is today one the largest and most heavily used rapid transit systems in the world. On this Moscow metro tour, discover the impressive architecture of Moscow’s underground stations and learn how they reflect the Soviet era.

Getting around by metro, your local guide will take you through parts of Moscow’s infamous history. Stop at stations built during the time of the USSR (Soviet Union) that are praised as one of the most extravagant architectural projects from Stalin’s time. After World War 2, he was keen on establishing Stalinist architecture to represent his rising regime and a recognized empire. Learn how when his successor started the de-Stalinization of the former Soviet Union in 1953, the extravagancy of the architecture was toned down.

Discover how the unique character of each station reflected several different eras. While stations like Kievskaya and Slavyansky Bulvar have pompous halls and high stucco ceilings brimming with extravagant decorations, those built later, like Volzhskaya, are lightly adorned with sparse furnishings. Architect Alexey Dushkin and painter Alexander Deyneka were just two of the many artists who made these magnificent landmarks possible.

Revel in Moscow's glory days, as well as the years of scarcity, on this fascinating Moscow metro experience. Conclude your tour at one of the central stations in Moscow. If you're lucky, you may even find the secret entrance to the unconfirmed Metro-2, a parallel underground system used by the government -- a mystery which has neither been denied nor confirmed today.

Culture Shock Rating

We have a wide range of tours designed to give you an insight into the destination you're travelling in and there is something for everybody. The culture shock ratings considers the destination visited, transport used, activities undertaken and that "Wow, I'm really not at home now!" factor. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

This is the least confronting of our tour range. Transport used on the trip is either private or a very comfortable public option, the activities included are usually iconic sites and locations that are not all too confronting.

The tour can include a mix of private and public transport providing a level of comfort that is slightly below what you would experience at home. Sites visited are usually iconic sites, tours can also include market visits, visits to communities etc that provide the traveller with a fantastic insight into destination.

Expect to rough it for parts of this tour, whether it's a packed public bus where you are forced to stand, a visit to a local market, a local community, you are sure to have an experience that is very different from what you're used to at home.

The comforts of your home town and the environment you are used to are more of a rarity. Expect some challenging transport options, visits to local sites and areas that don't resemble anything at home.

You're out there in the global community! You are likely to be exposed to the elements, travel in whatever means of transport is available and basically take it as it comes, whatever comes! It can be tough.

Physical Rating

Our physical rating gives you an idea of how much huffing and puffing you can expect on the tour. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

These tours have very limited physical activity. Usually climbing in and out of the transport provided, walking through sites, markets etc included in the itinerary.

These tours have a bit of physical activity but nothing that should challenge you too much. This could be climbing on and off public transport through to a walk through the destination you're travelling in, they can include walking only tours or a combination of walking and transport.

These tours involve a bit of physical activity from walking up and down hills in the destination you're travelling in or the surrounding areas. Climbing on and off local transport or riding a bike up to 30 kms along predominantly flat terrain or jumping in a kayak for a gentle paddle on flat water.

These Tours will provide you with some solid physical activity. Whether its bike riding, walking, trekking, kayaking or riding on public transport you will need to have a good level of fitness to enjoy this tour.

Be prepared for some serious physical activity. These tours are our most challenging and involve some serious walking, hiking or bike riding. Can involve step climbs by foot or pedal and some challenging public transport options in the destination you are travelling.

Luxury Rating

Some trips are like a stroll on the beach, while others have you trekking alpine passes. Some of you thrive on camping out on the savannah, while others may prefer a hot shower and a comfortable bed in a lodge. Follow the grading systems below to find the right trip for you.

To help you choose the trip that's right for you, we've broken all of our trips down into four service levels. Measuring the comfort level of the accommodation and transport. So whether you're travelling on a budget and want to save money by using public transport, or prefer upgraded accommodation and are happy to pay a little more, then we have a level for you.
