We had a fantastic experience. The vet and her assistant came to our home and did the checkup in our backyard. Fees were reasonable. She took her time and answered all of our questions. The seemed genuinely interested in our family and the well being of our dog. She had maintenance medicines needed and wrote prescriptions so we can order online in the future if we like. Dr. Nicholson is extremely knowledgable in both traditional and holistic veterinary care. She has taken care of our cats for more than five years and we couldn't be happier with the care she has given them. She and her assistant Rhonda are extremely caring and gentle with the cats. They always seem happy to answer our many questions, taking the time to explain anything we don't understand. For cats who do not like car rides, Dr. Nicholson's "house calls" make vet visits so much easier. I would recommend Home Veterinary Care of Stafford without hesitation. Dr. Nicholson has been our vet for years, first for my big Shepard/chow mixes that hated the car and now for my little dogs. She helped us with our elderly dogs till the end and was kind and compassionate .She has a good knowledge of holistic methods as well as practical advice. She carries around her pharmacy so you get a full service right in your own home. It is MUCH nicer than going to the Vet where you have to wait so long in uncomfortable waiting rooms. And its not as upsetting to the dogs. And her prices are quite similar to the vet we previously saw, even with the house call.

After my cat was diagnosed and suffering from lung cancer, I knew that we had to make her passing as easy for her as possible. Dr. Nicholson was so wonderful. She first sedated our cat so that she would be asleep and breathing comfortably for the final injection. I think that Home Vet Care of Stafford is one of the community's best kept secrets.

New Client and Missed Appointment Policy Updated March 15, 2023

We continue to experience an increase in pet owners missing scheduled appointments.

Therefore :

All NEW clients will be asked to provide a credit card when making an appointment. A deposit is required to schedule an appointment. The non-refundable deposit charged to your card will be equal to the EXAM fee for each pet to be seen. The policy also applies to existing clients with a history of missing appointments. The deposit will be credited to charges generated during the appointment.

A missed appointment is when you fail to attend an appointment without notification of at least 48 hours of BUSINESS DAY notice. Canceling over the weekend via email, PetDesk, or voice mail is not sufficient notice for a Monday or Tuesday appointment. You will not be refunded if you fail to attend your pet’s appointments. 

A veterinary/client relationship is built on mutual trust and respect. House Paws’ goal is to provide quality, individualized medical care in a timely manner. As such, we strive to be on time for your scheduled appointments and ask the same of you. As a courtesy to you, we provide reminders via email, PetDesk, or a phone call before your appointment. However, you are responsible for remembering your appointment regardless.

Other pet owners cannot obtain routine or urgent care for their pets when scheduled appointments are missed without sufficient notification.

You will be charged (25% of your estimated fee) if you have a missed surgery appointment. We allocate a fixed number of time slots depending on the type of surgeries scheduled and are unable to re-book a missed surgery appointment (for whatever reason) at short notice due to the prerequisites for surgery.

We hope this allows us to serve you and your pets better.

How to Cancel/Change Your Appointment : To cancel or ask to change your appointment, you may do so on our Petdesk app or call/email the hospital where your appointment is scheduled. If you do not reach the receptionist upon calling, please leave a detailed message on our voicemail. 48 hours business hour notice applies. If you cancel or need to reschedule before the 48 hours limit, your deposit remains on your account until the appointment is rescheduled.

New modified Curbside Service Policy

When making your appointment, please let us know if you wish to come into the exam room with your pet or remain in your car while your pet is being seen. This affects our scheduling as we minimize the number of people in the building and also the number of pet interactions that would occur in our waiting room. One pet parent will be accommodated.

1. Upon arrival, please call into the hospital to check-in. If we are not quite ready for you at that time, we will call you back and ask you to bring your pet into the building. From there, one of our technicians will escort you to an exam room, or go back and wait in your car.

2. Technician and re-check appointments will remain curbside while you wait in your car.

3. When you are waiting in your car, we will call you when your pet’s appointment is finished and review the appointment with you. We will then ask you to come into the building for checkout while the technician gets your pet (and any meds that might be going home) ready for discharge.

We are also accepting new clients in a limited number of areas. Please see our updated service area map for a general idea of our service area. We will wear masks at your request. We very much appreciate the mobile clients willing to drive to visit our fixed location offices, you can continue to do so, or we can schedule to come to you. Mobile appointments are limited, and we expect slots to be available continuously 3 to 4 weeks into the future. We know that going to the vet can be stressful for your pet, and we’re here to help. In-home veterinary care can be an ideal solution for pets who are shy, scared, or skittish, elderly, or those with mobility problems.

Appointment Information

Your appointment start time is a one-hour sliding window before or after the scheduled time.

We do our best to arrive as scheduled but traffic conditions, unanticipated sick calls or other unplanned circumstances at prior appointments will sometimes cause us to be late, early (less usual) or need to reschedule.

We try to accommodate sick pets on the same day you call, if at all possible.

We ask for your understanding if we are late or need to reschedule your   routine wellness   or follow-up appointment due to a sick call to see other clients’ pet because we would do the same for you.

We will call if we are running late as soon as we know and are able.

Welcome to Stafford Veterinary Center, your local veterinarians in Stafford Springs.  We’re pleased to provide a wide variety of veterinary services for large, small, and exotic animals in Stafford Springs, and the town’s surrounding areas.

Our doctors specialize in care for all animals.  At our local center we offer excellent small animal medicine.  In early 2022, after 41 years of operating out of the same facility, Stafford Veterinary Center moved to a brand new, state-of-the-art facility.  Our new hospital, located right in the heart of town and in a historic Victorian manor, now features five examination rooms, three fully stocked surgical suites, an ICU suite, a radiology room, treatment rooms, kennels, in-house grooming, a welcoming yard to walk your pets, and so much more!  Our doctors are currently licensed in both the state of Connecticut and the state of Massachusetts, and they are also USDA federally accredited.

We also offer road call services for your small, large production and pleasure animals with our two mobile units.  With these mobile units we cater to the needs of your farm animals, horses, and any other animals you may keep at your home.  We also have mobile radiology and mobile cold laser capabilities, as well.

Finally, Stafford Veterinary Center prides itself in providing our clients with the most responsive, kind, and compassionate end stage care for our furry family members.  No one wants to see their pet cross the Rainbow Bridge, but when that time comes, we are there for our clients, whether they want treatment in our hospital or in the sanctity of their own home.

BOSTON – A visit from “Papa Yaz” before the game and a home run during it made for a memorable afternoon for Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski.

The grandson of Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski hit a solo homer to right field — not far from where the former Boston outfielder’s retired No. 8 is hanging from the façade — to help San Francisco beat the Red Sox 3-1 on Thursday.

“I’m looking around, and I have my greatest childhood memories here,” said Mike Yastrzemski, who also homered five years ago in his only other visit to the ballpark where his grandfather played 23 seasons.

“The first one was like, super crazy, where I actually couldn’t believe that happened,” he said. “It was a little bit more normal this week, and I actually got to enjoy it while I was here rather than reflecting on it and being like, ‘Man, that was really cool.’”

Yastrzemski, 33, has three home runs this season and 90 in his six-year career, all with the Giants. This one cleared the short wall in front of the Red Sox bullpen in the third inning of a scoreless, hitless game to give San Francisco a 1-0 lead.

Giants manager Bob Melvin thanked “the baseball gods.”

“Got a smile out of me,” said the former major league catcher, who spent one of his 10 major league seasons in Boston and was not quite six when Carl Yastrzemski won the AL Triple Crown and led the “Impossible Dream” Red Sox to the pennant in 1967. “I was just awestruck. So I didn’t have a ton to say to him. … There are some cool days in baseball, and I’ve had a lot of them. This was one of them.”

Mike Yastrzemski says he sees his grandfather a couple of times a year. He will sometimes ask the three-time batting champion and '67 AL MVP for hitting advice, but the man he calls “Papa Yaz” will more often talk about family.

“One of the things that he’s done incredibly well as a grandfather is letting me have my career,” Mike said. “He’ll pick up the phone when I call, and if I ask him questions, he’ll answer. But he’s never forcing anything on me. He’s never suggesting anything. He’s always told me, ‘When in doubt, talk to your hitting coaches.’”

On Thursday, Mike said, they didn’t talk about hitting at all. The elder Yaz asked how he was physically, and it was “just good to see him,” Mike said.

“It was fun to just have him around for a minute,” he said.

And then the 84-year-old Hall of Famer split, without sticking around for the game.

“I think he left the car running when he was in here,” Mike said with a smile. “But that’s normal. He’s quick to the point.”
