Three Types of Video Visits

' title=

At Facility

These visits are when you go to your facility and sit at a video visit station in the lobby. Your loved one or friend will be on a video visit station in their pod.

' title=

From Computer

At select facilities families and friends can have video visits from their own personal computers in the comfort of their own homes. You will need the following equipment to do a video visit from home:

  • A computer.
  • A webcam and a microphone, or a computer with these components built in (most laptops have these built in).
  • An internet browser. Internet browsers Safari 4 and higher, or Firefox 7 and higher, are strongly recommended. Using other browsers may not load the page appropriately in order to begin your visit. We are not responsible for technical problems or issues that may arise from using an unsupported browser.
  • For the best visit experience you should use headphones, but they are not required.
  • High speed internet (DSL or Cable) connection (dial up and satellite are not supported).

From Android Device

Video visits go mobile with our Visit Now Android app. At select facilities families and friends can have video visits from their own Android devices.

How to Schedule a Visit

Free video visit policy.

Free visits are a benefit for the inmate and are credited to the  inmate’s account. Therefore the inmate is the only one who  can book a free visit . This allows the inmate at your facility full control of whom they want to use their free visit with. There are also advanced scheduling rules that control the timeframe that a free visit can be booked. These rules vary by facility. If an inmate books a visit outside this timeframe, they will not be allowed to use a free visit.

  • Book the visit with their Friends & Family.
  • Suggest a visit with their Friends & Family. The Friends & Family must have no prepaid funds on their account at the time they confirm the suggested time. The inmate’s free visit will then be deducted.
  • Confirm a suggested visit from their friends and family. The Friends & Family must have no prepaid funds on their account at the time the inmate confirms the visit. The inmate’s free visit will then be deducted from their free visit allowance.

The only way Friends & Family can use a free visit is by suggesting a visit with the inmate. If the inmate has a free visit available and there are no prepaid funds on the Friends & Family account at the time the inmate confirms, the free visit will be deducted from inmate’s account.

If you are asked to be Telmate Verified it means your facility requires verification of your identity prior to acceptance of inmates' calls. The purpose of verification is to ensure inmates are not connecting with inappropriate people on the outside. The verification process is simple and can be completed before or after creating an account.

To be verified, you can make a deposit , schedule a visit or download and complete the Telmate Verified form .

Video Visitation

Leading Video Visitation Service

Provide the Opportunity for On-Premise or Remote Video Visitation

The GTL VisitMe video visitation solution allows federal, state, county, municipal, and private facilities to supplement traditional in-person visitation service offerings with secure on-premise or remote alternatives. This highly scalable solution can help facilities of any size improve security while allowing staff time to be reallocated to more critical tasks. In addition, friends, family, and professional visitors are given a convenient, accessible way to stay connected with inmates.

With the on-premise solution available through VisitMe, visitation services can be conducted at predetermined locations within the immediate facility or at an established annex location. Inmate visitation stations can be installed at specific locations throughout each housing unit so that inmates do not need to be moved. A visitation station can also be set up on a cart as a mobile solution for restricted classification offenders.

Utilizing the At-Home video visitation solution through VisitMe allows visitors to conduct their regular visitation sessions through most PCs, laptops, and tablets (Android or Apple iOS devices) without stepping onto facility property. As these visitation sessions are conducted in an outside environment, correctional staff members are provided with several monitoring tools to prohibit any illicit activity.

Minimize Inmate Movements

With the implementation of the GTL VisitMe solution, visitation units are installed in strategic locations throughout each housing unit, reducing the need to coordinate inmate movements throughout the facility. With the reduction of inmate movements, the threat of a safety and security breach will be drastically reduced so that staff can be reassigned to other duties.

Securely Monitor and Record Visits

With the security features built into the GTL VisitMe system, correctional officers monitoring the visitation sessions have the capability to record, interrupt, or terminate any visitation for lewd or inappropriate conduct as determined by the facility. For visitation sessions that are classified as professional visits, the system will automatically disable the recording feature, keeping the facility within legal compliance.

Eliminate Contraband Introduction Opportunities

As individuals pass through the lobby of the correctional facility on a daily basis, the threat of contraband being introduced remains a reality. Even without the availability of contact visits, contraband can be placed in an area often visited by inmates or employees. With the introduction of on-premise or at-home visitation, visitors will conduct each session from a secure area, removed from any point that may allow the introduction of contraband.

Written By:  Brad Campbell |  March 23, 2023

Correctional facilities, including prisons, juvenile detention centers, and other types of detention centers, have a unique set of security needs.

Because of the risks of egress, riots, and violent attacks, these types of facilities require a special type of prison glass, known as detention glazing, wherever there are glass doors and windows.

Riot Glass, LLC offers a full range of one-of-a-kind security glazing solutions that are ideal for all types of detention centers.

What Is Riot Glass® Detention Glazing?

Riot Glass® prison glass solutions include polycarbonate and glass-clad polycarbonate (GCP) security glazing units. Each unit includes the glazing infills and retrofittable security framing adapters.

Each glazing infill panel is composed of a proprietary combination of polycarbonate, acrylics, and other plastics, resulting in a virtually unbreakable forced entry-resistant and, in some cases, bullet-resistant detention glazing.

The unique formulation of Riot Glass® detention glazing makes it much stronger than other types of polycarbonate security glazing on the market, meaning it will outperform and outlast standard polycarbonate.

Riot Glass® is built to withstand even the most prolonged, determined forced entry attempts using hammers, pry bars, bats, and other heavy objects that inmates could potentially use to attempt a break out or during a prison riot or a targeted attack.

Such attempts will simply bounce off of the Riot Glass®, preventing attackers from gaining entry by breaking a window or door and giving corrections officers time to respond and get the situation under control.

In addition to being virtually unbreakable, Riot Glass® glazing is covered with a special abrasion-resistant coating. This makes it even better for correctional facilities, where inmates may attempt to scratch the surfaces of windows to inhibit visibility.

How Riot Glass® prison glass solutions work

Riot Glass® retrofittable framing adapters allow for polycarbonate and GCP composite laminates to be mounted into a glass surface’s existing framing system, creating a protective barrier over the existing glass.

Alternatively, Riot Glass® can be used to replace any existing glazing altogether, or be used in new construction.

Riot Glass® also has new Gen II security framing available, which uses an original system of gaskets to disperse the force of impacts towards the edges of the glazing even more effectively.

armor plast gen2

This framing can be over-glazed (mounted outside existing glass) or back-glazed (mounted inside existing glass). Or, conversion framing can be used to place the framing inside the existing pocket of a window after the existing glass is removed.

Why Do Correctional Facilities Need Riot Glass® Detention Glazing?

In detention settings, unrestricted visibility of key areas is of the utmost importance. Traditional solutions like bars and grates restrict visibility, making it harder for corrections officers to see threats.

In addition to high visibility, detention facilities also need a high level of security to prevent unauthorized entry or egress and the passage of contraband.

Since it’s crystal clear, yet virtually unbreakable, Riot Glass® glazing is the perfect solution for prisons and other types of detention centers — it strikes the perfect balance between security and visibility.

Riot Glass® detention glazing can be integrated into:

  • Cell doors and windows
  • Visitation rooms
  • Interview rooms
  • Control rooms
  • Infirmaries
  • Anywhere else where high-security prison glass is required

Do correctional facilities need bullet-resistant detention glazing?

Since the presence of firearms is strictly controlled and monitored in detention centers, most prison glass doesn’t really need to be bullet resistant.

Bullet-resistant GCP glazing may be used in certain ultra high security areas of detention complexes. But, for most applications, containment-grade polycarbonate prison glazing provides all the protection needed.

Specifically, we recommend using ArmorPlast® AP25, which is tested and certified to resist forced entry, human impacts, flying storm debris, and more.

At just 1/4-inch thick, AP25 is incredibly lightweight, making it ideal for retrofitting in older facilities.

armorplast graphic

AP25 offers a glass-like surface hardness and appearance, with the extreme impact resistance of our proprietary polycarbonate security glazing. It’s also abrasion- and UV-resistant, and won’t yellow or haze, giving it a long service lifespan in high-profile correctional facility applications.

As a containment-grade solution, AP25 allows bullet penetration, but it won’t significantly diminish in strength, even if riddled with multiple bullets.

In other words, even if a firearm fell into the wrong hands inside a correctional facility, the inmates wouldn’t be able to use it to shoot out a piece of AP25 and gain access to a secure area.

AP25 remains a barrier to forced entry even during the most violent attacks, continuing to protect those on the other side and buying time to react.

Benefits of using AP25 for prison glass retrofits:

  • Offers lightweight, yet virtually unbreakable
  • Allows natural light in and provides full visibility
  • Has abrasion-resistant and UV-resistant coatings
  • Provides a long service life in high-stress environments
  • Looks and feels like standard window glass

How To Get Started with a Riot Glass® Retrofit

Because prisons and other detention centers must comply with strict security testing standards, we highly recommend carrying out an updated threat assessment to help determine the right level of Riot Glass® security glazing for correctional facilities.

During a threat assessment, a security expert who is familiar with industry requirements and regulations will conduct a thorough inspection of the facility’s existing security measures.

The expert will then make specific recommendations about what type of Riot Glass® glazing to use and where to put it to provide the required level of security.

What about new correctional facilities?

For new facilities, Riot Glass® glazing can be used in place of other types of prison glass during the initial construction process.

This can be taken into account when designing the facilities, as it offers the opportunity to design rooms with more high-security glazing, and thus higher visibility.

For example, rather than traditional cells with masonry walls and fully metal doors, cells can be built with larger window components, making it easier to observe the actions of detainees and spot potential threats.

Or, security glazing can be used in place of bars to prevent the passage of contraband to inmates, while allowing an even higher level of visibility than bars.

Michigan jails sued —

Jails banned visits in “quid pro quo” with prison phone companies, lawsuits say, civil rights group sues two counties, says hundreds more have banned visits..

Jon Brodkin - Mar 29, 2024 6:31 pm UTC

The bars of a jail cell are pictured along with a man's hand turning a key in the lock of the cell door.

Two lawsuits filed by a civil rights group allege that county jails in Michigan banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls as part of a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with prison phone companies.

Civil Rights Corps filed the lawsuits on March 15 against the county governments, two county sheriffs, and two prison phone companies. The suits filed in county courts seek class-action status on behalf of people unable to visit family members detained in the local jails, including children who have been unable to visit their parents.

Defendants in one lawsuit include St. Clair County Sheriff Mat King, prison phone company Securus Technologies, and Securus owner Platinum Equity. In the other lawsuit , defendants include Genesee County Sheriff Christopher Swanson and prison phone company ViaPath Technologies. ViaPath was formerly called Global Tel*Link Corporation (GTL), and the lawsuit primarily refers to the company as GTL.

Each year, thousands of people spend months in the county jails, the lawsuit said. Many of the detainees have not been convicted of any crime and are awaiting trial; if they are convicted and receive long sentences, they are transferred to the Michigan Department of Corrections.

The named plaintiffs in both cases include family members, including children identified by their initials.

“Hundreds of jails” eliminated visits

The Michigan counties are far from alone in implementing visitation bans, Civil Rights Corps said in a lawsuit announcement . "Across the United States, hundreds of jails have eliminated in-person family visits over the last decade," the group said, adding:

Why has this happened? The answer highlights a profound flaw in how decisions too often get made in our legal system: for-profit jail telecom companies realized that they could earn more profit from phone and video calls if jails eliminated free in-person visits for families. So the companies offered sheriffs and county jails across the country a deal: if you eliminate family visits, we'll give you a cut of the increased profits from the larger number of calls. This led to a wave across the country, as local jails sought to supplement their budgets with hundreds of millions of dollars in cash from some of the poorest families in our society.

St. Clair County implemented its family visitation ban in September 2017, "prohibiting people from visiting their family members detained inside the county jail," Civil Rights Corps alleged. This "decision was part of a quid pro quo kickback scheme with Securus Technologies, a for-profit company that contracts with jails to charge the families of incarcerated persons exorbitant rates to communicate with one another through 'services' such as low-quality phone and video calls," the lawsuit said.

Under the contract, "Securus pays the County 50 percent of the $12.99 price tag for every 20-minute video call and 78 percent of the $0.21 per minute cost of every phone call," the lawsuit said. The contract has "a guarantee that Securus would pay the County at least $190,000 each year," the St. Clair County lawsuit said.

Migrants scalped a young guy

The incident occurred because a guy with green hair asked migrants for a cigarette, who did not like his appearance.

19-year-old Yury Markov was thrown to the ground, beaten and cut off part of the skin from his head along with his hair.

Currently, one of the participants in the execution has been detained; he turned out to be a native of the Komi Republic. At the same time, some media reports that the guy was attacked by the so-called ‘Sharia patrol’ – outcasts professing Islam.

UPD: In an interview with journalists, Yuri Markov confirmed that he himself approached two citizens of Caucasian appearance, one of whom said that he was an ethnic Azerbaijani.

UPD 2: Both attackers were detained, one of them was born in Tajikistan.

Define that term in more detail. EVERY single Westerner? If that was the case, we wouldn’t be complaining about anything now would we? Have you seen US? Cities that were once great, now crime-ridden nigger-infested shitholes. Who let them in? Not the fucking Asians or Russians or Brazilians that’s for sure

' src=

Mr. Solution, when was the last time you actually visited America? My charming small town here is 82.4% white. Very little crime. One time these Latino guys and gals stabbed their rival a bunch of times a few years ago. And a black man shot someone in the head in 2021. And last year a young white man stabbed his female roommate to death. But that’s it.

' src=

Ok, so, one day you complain about shitskins, the next day you say it’s not so bad. Are you just arguing to disagree with me? I visited the US 10 years ago actually, and I’ve seen what I’ve expected, a land of mutts and people from all over the world. Instead of being ethnically homogenous, you got ethnic and cultural enclaves everywhere. Your little town of “whites” is statistically speaking probably a bunch of sheep who would vote for their own destruction tomorrow because they don’t know shit. Never picked up a history book in their life, has no identity, no national or ethnic pride, has their soul crushed within them by white-guilt psyops and what not. You may as well write 82.4% traitor sleeper cells. Just waiting to be activated.

What about Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia? Detroit where the US autoindustry is based, now a shithole where you don’t dare look out the window in case you get your head blown off by Lil Tick from the 123rd St. Shitskin Squad.

And in general, is the white population not decreasing and the shitskins increasing in the US? Tomorrow, it’s your little town that’s next to be die-versified.

This is highly reminiscent of the Roman Empire. They weakened internally, then the barbarians flooded the gates. If you have a negative view of Nazi Germany or Hitler, you and me are not on the same side despite our identical skin color.

Should line all three up and execute. 2 for being nasty niggers, 1 for being faggot with colored hair.

Westerners are the clowns of a big country of a circus.

countries you mean western civilization isn’t just one country you know

At least his attackers were of “Caucasian appearance”. I would love for the migrants here in the US to be of Caucasian appearance. Sadly, that’s not the case in the West.

Caucasians? Why would you want Armenians, Georgians, Chechens in the US?

I hate stupid people

New York City Mayor Eric Adams marked Good Friday by receiving a jailhouse baptism from the Rev. Al Sharpton, joining in on the religious rite with a group of men incarcerated at the troubled Rikers Island jail complex.

The ceremony came as part of a visit to the jail complex where Adams was scheduled to meet with detainees on the Christian holiday.

“Having been arrested and then elected mayor, I reminded these young men that where you are is not who you are,” Adams, a Democrat, said in a statement. “For the first time in their lives, their mayor didn’t look down at them — I sat side by side with them to be cleansed and recommit ourselves to getting on the right path.”

Images from the event, provided by the mayor’s office, appear to show Adams interlocking hands with Sharpton during a prayer, the reverend washing Adams’ feet and Adams being baptized.

Adams and the civil rights leader have close ties through their long tenures in New York politics. Adams often calls into Sharpton’s satellite radio show and the pair have appeared together at City Hall events.

Plagued by violence and neglect, the city-run jail complex , has been the subject of an ongoing legal battle that could result in a federal takeover of the facility.

The mayor had also visited Rikers earlier this week to meet with detainees. In an interview this week on New York City radio show “The Breakfast Club,” Adams said he met with “a group of 12 young brothers who recommitted themselves to Christ.”

“I’ve been on Rikers Island more than any mayor in the history of the city talking with inmates and correction officers to turn around what’s happening on Rikers Island,” Adams said in the heated radio interview, which aired Friday.

• Here’s what you need to know on the state of the Buffalo Bills—this was coming, at some point.

The offloading that started with 30-somethings Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer, Mitch Morse and Leonard Floyd, and soon-to-be-30-something Tre’Davious White departing a month ago continued with the trade of star 30-year-old receiver Stefon Diggs on Wednesday. Diggs’ massive dead-cap figure gets thrown in a pile of debt charges on departed players that could wind up accounting for a quarter of their 2024 salary cap.

The main takeaway then, to me, should be pretty simple. Good.

And I’m not saying that as a shot at Diggs, who gave Buffalo and Josh Allen four mostly spectacular seasons. I am saying that this reckoning was coming one way or the other. So the Bills could’ve delayed it another year, and restructured Diggs, and maybe kept a couple guys they didn’t, and let the roster get a year older. Or they could do what the Rams did in 2023, and rip the Band-Aid off, avoid needing a multi-year cap cleanse, set themselves up to get younger, and go into 2025 with clean financial sheets.

From there, and GM Brandon Beane said this in his press conference, the Bills are going to try and keep their standards where they’ve been, like the Rams did. In Los Angeles, it took great coaching (from Sean McVay), quarterbacking (from Matthew Stafford) and drafting (digging Puka Nacua, Byron Young and Kobie Turner from the middle rounds), and it’ll take the same in Buffalo, putting the onus on Sean McDermott, Allen and Beane to get it done.

Of course, the roster’s still got talent. Allen has a couple rising young guys, in Dalton Kincaid and Khalil Shakir, and the team has 10 picks to work with. And if they can come out of it with another playoff berth, then in 2025 and going forward, they’ll be better for all of this.

• The concern if you’re the Houston Texans in this case would be what version of Diggs you’re getting and, to be sure, the drama that’s surrounded the star receiver was a factor in the decision to move him for Buffalo. But the context Houston lands him in is different than it’d have been if the Bills had held on to him.

Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

Simply, it’s a fresh start for Diggs, and a chance to come out with something to prove, and it plays, to a degree, back to a piece of Houston GM Nick Caserio’s own football history.

Caserio was the Patriots’ receivers coach in 2007, when New England swung a fourth-round pick to the Raiders to land a similarly questioned star 30-year-old receiver. On Caserio’s watch, Randy Moss, motivated by being discarded, did produce perhaps the greatest season as a receiver has ever had with 23 touchdowns.

Seventeen years later, Caserio is affording Diggs the chance to gain a similar level of redemption in an environment that, while it’s not what New England was then, is getting really good with the potential to be better. Diggs will play alongside Tank Dell, Nico Collins and Dalton Schultz, and with C.J. Stroud pulling the trigger behind an accomplished, veteran line. He’ll also be playing his home games inside again, after doing so over his first four NFL seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.

So I wouldn’t bet against the ultra-competitive Diggs having a kind of year in Houston that might not have happened had he stayed with the Bills.

And by the way, this is a really good job by Caserio of leveraging the rookie-contract QB edge the Texans have for the next couple years, alongside the signings of Danielle Hunter, Azeez Al-Shaair and Denico Autry, and the trade for Joe Mixon in March—even if Diggs might only be around for a single year.

• On that end, I do have some reservations about the Texans doing the contract adjustment with Diggs, guaranteeing him more than $22 million for 2024 , and his freedom in ‘25. Remember, when you’re trading for a player, it’s not just the player you get, it’s the contract, and Diggs had four years left on his. So in this case, giving up a 2025 second-round pick, even with the fifth- and sixth-rounders coming back, is steep for one year of Diggs, because that second-rounder comes on a very affordable contract for four years.

This is interesting, and if it's done without dummy years on the back end, would also escalate Stefon Diggs' franchise number to a spot where Houston would be unlikely to tag him next March. If his cap number for Houston is $22.52 million, his tag would be over $27 million. https://t.co/MbcEGbR1SL — Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) April 4, 2024

But, again, for where the Texans are right now, it makes sense. If you combine this trade with the Vikings trade from March, the Texans moved down 19 spots in this year’s draft, from No. 23 to No. 42 (which, per the Jimmy Johnson draft chart, is equal to trading away the 63rd pick) in order to get that year of Diggs, move a seventh-rounder into the sixth round (232nd to 188th), and land a 2024 sixth and a ‘25 fifth. Which is good value.

• We mentioned the four teams that have at least been investigating moving up within the top of the first round—the Giants, Vikings, Broncos and Raiders—and what was most interesting to me is how each of those teams, facing an uncertain future at quarterback, affect one another.

Start with the Giants at No. 6. They’ve done all the work on the quarterbacks. They met extensively with Michael Penix Jr. last Friday, worked Drake Maye out Saturday and worked J.J. McCarthy out Sunday. They had McCarthy and Maye to their facility for extraordinarily early “30” visits before free agency. They’re operating like a team that’s taking one. So they’re either planning to, or they’re trying to get someone else to leapfrog them, and make another top-shelf player fall to them.

Either way, sitting behind them is a risk if you’re looking for one of the top four QBs.

Then, you’ve got the other three—Minnesota, Denver and Vegas—sitting there at 11, 12 and 13, where they potentially could be jockeying to get past the Giants for McCarthy or even with each other for Penix (I feel like that’s probably less likely). All of which should make for one heck of a game of poker between all those GMs over the next few weeks.

• What we do know about the quarterback dance is where Caleb Williams is going. I’d be floored if it’s not Chicago and, as I see it, the hay has been 95% or so in the barn on this since the combine.

Still, there are some interesting tidbits from his 30 visit with the team the other night. One is that he went with a dinner group separate from some of the other draft prospects in town, and with not just the team brass, but some veteran players. Then, the next day, for the first time this offseason, top receiver DJ Moore was in the building. Therein were opportunities for the Bears to see their prospective new quarterback around the older guys he will have to lead, and for Williams himself to get to know his new teammates.

For what it’s worth, the feedback I got back on how all that went was very positive.

• NC State big man DJ Burns Jr., preparing for this weekend’s Final Four, responded succinctly on Thursday when he was asked about his interest in playing football: “Zero.”

NC State basketball player DJ Burns Jr. jogs down the court.

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

It makes sense. It took him six years of college basketball to get to this point. He’s obviously passionate about the game (it takes 30 seconds watching him play to know that). And even if he can’t make the NBA—he’s listed at 6’ 9”, probably isn’t that tall, and being a post player at that height is pretty tough in that league—he could probably cash checks playing in Europe for the next decade or so.

That said, a guy who’s his size, and moves the way he does is going to get the attention of NFL folks, regardless of whether he plays football or not (see: Mailata, Jordan), and so earlier in the week I asked around a bit on whether or not Burns could make it as an NFL prospect. The most common question that came up was the obvious one, which concerned his toughness, something that isn’t tested in basketball like it would be in football.

“[Mailata] played rugby … that’s a totally different mindset than a post player with light feet,” texted one AFC exec. “But, yes, I think he could, and I think he probably has a better chance to make a bunch of money in football than basketball. How many 6’ 7” centers are there in the NBA? Not many.”

“Physically, yes, I think he probably could,” says an AFC coordinator. “You never know if he really wants to mix it up, though. Also, even if he doesn’t make it in the NBA, he’ll be able to play in Europe forever. … I think he’ll stick with basketball.”

“My first thought was it’s physical traits vs. mental makeup,” says an NFC line coach. “Tough for basketball isn’t exactly tough for football.”

So he’d be a projection for sure, and more of one than guys like Mailata or Stephen Neal were coming from other contact sports. But the athleticism would be enough to get a real shot, and as Mailata and Neal once showed, sometimes, that’s all a kid needs.

• Speaking of Mailata, his success in getting a second monster contract, this one a three-year extension with $66 million in new money, is further evidence of the value of a great offensive line coach. Jeff Stoutland, initially hired from Nick Saban’s Alabama staff by Chip Kelly, and since held over by both Doug Pederson and Nick Sirianni, definitely is one for the Eagles, and a big reason why they’ve been able to pull so many levers to build great lines.

The coach’s ability to develop an ex-rugby player effectively erased a big swing-and-miss at in the draft, Andre Dillard being that 2019 miss, and create the kind of enviable stability Jason Peters once gave them at a premium position. And all they had to spend to get him was a seventh-round pick. Which illustrates why when you have a guy like Stoutland, you do all you can to keep him, and if you have a chance to get one like, say Bill Callahan, you’re willing to pay to make it happen.

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Carson Wentz talks with receiver Bennett Skowronek.

Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports

• Carson Wentz was smart to choose Kansas City as a destination. Andy Reid’s has a long history of developing backup quarterbacks, going back to his time as a Green Bay Packers assistant in the 1990s, and Wentz’s experience working with ex-Chiefs coordinator Doug Pederson at the start of his career won’t hurt either.

Now, Wentz is 31, so there’s probably a ceiling on how far he can take this. But he’s giving himself the best by going where he did.

• The Patriots will host Maye on Friday, and the Raiders will host Oregon’s Bo Nix. And these visits are important, final pieces to the process for players, because it gives teams a chance to spend full days with the guys, see them within the walls they’d be working within, and get a second look at anything that might’ve been flagged medically at the combine.

• Best to Vontae Davis’s family. As far I could tell, he was a really nice, thoughtful guy and, of course, a really good player. Here’s hoping those close to him can find peace at a really challenging time.

Democratic congressmen unveil bill to rename a federal prison after Trump

Donald Trump during a "Get Out The Vote" rally in Greensboro, N.C.

WASHINGTON — Three Democratic congressmen unveiled legislation Friday to rename a federal prison in Miami after former President Donald Trump.

The bill — offered by Reps. Gerry Connolly, of Virginia; Jared Moskowitz, of Florida; and John Garamendi, of California — comes in response to a measure introduced by a group of House Republicans to rename Washington Dulles International Airport after Trump.

The Democrats' bill would rename the Miami Federal Correctional Institution in Florida the "Donald J. Trump Federal Correctional Institution."

“When our Republican colleagues introduced their bill to rename Dulles after Donald Trump, I said the more fitting option would be to rename a federal prison,” Connolly said in a statement. “I hope our Republican friends will join us in bestowing upon Donald J. Trump the only honor he truly deserves.”

Trump is facing multiple federal criminal charges  in Florida for allegedly mishandling sensitive government, including willful retention of national defense information, false statements and representations, conspiracy to obstruct justice, withholding a document or record and corruptly concealing a document. He has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting a new trial date in that case.

Trump is also facing state criminal charges in New York, where he's been accused of falsifying business records related to a hush money payment paid to adult film star Stormy Daniels in the closing days of the 2016 presidential election. He's pleaded not guilty in that case, which is scheduled to begin jury selection on April 15 .

The former president has been charged with illegally trying to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia state court and in federal court in Washington, D.C. Trial dates have not been set in either case, and the D.C. case is on hold pending resolution of Trump's appeal that he's protected by presidential immunity. The U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear arguments on that appeal on April 25. Trump has pleaded not guilty in both cases.

“Everyone knows President Trump loves to write his name in gold letters on all his buildings, Moskowitz said. “But he’s never had his name on a federal building before and as a public servant I just want to help the former president. Help us make that dream a reality.”

The  bill to rename Dulles after Trump was filed last Friday. It was sponsored by Rep. Guy Reschenthaler, R-Pa., the chief deputy majority whip, and co-sponsored by six other Republicans: Reps. Michael Waltz, of Florida; Andrew Ogles, of Tennessee; Chuck Fleischmann, of Tennessee; Paul Gosar, of Arizona; Barry Moore, of Alabama; and Troy Nehls, of Texas.

Reschenthaler tweeted about the effort earlier this week. “Freedom. Prosperity. Strength. That’s what America stood for under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump — the best president of my lifetime,” Reschenthaler wrote in  a post on X . “And that’s why I’m introducing legislation to rename Dulles as the Donald J. Trump International Airport."

The airport, opened in 1962, is named after John Foster Dulles, who served as secretary of state under President Dwight D. Eisenhower from 1953 to 1959.
