Jam Cruise Delivers Daily Lineups for 2024 Voyage

Jam Cruise has shared a breakdown of its daily lineups for the impending concert at sea, which leaves port from Miami on February 25 and returns on March 1. The floating festival boasts multiple stages, with many talented artists and acts anticipated throughout the event. 

Day one, Feb. 25, will commence with a piano frame courtesy of Jordan Anderson, followed by the official sail-away toast and an hour-and-a-half-long set on the Pool Deck from Lettuce. Also gracing the evening schedule are Medeski Martin & Porter Ft. Aba Diop, moe., Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, and Eggy. After midnight, TAUK Moore Ft. The Horn Section, The New Mastersounds, Porter Jr., and Lebo will keep the boat dancing. 

Music starts early on Day two, Feb. 26, starting at 12:30 p.m., with a set from The HillBenders and other afternoon entertainment courtesy of Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country, Al Schnier and Lebo. During the night, Jerry Harrison & Adrian Belew’s Remain in Light project will take over the Pantheon Theatre. Also on the list is a solo piano set from Medeski, Jimi’s Dead, Lotus, DJ Logic’s Birthday party and more. 

The first half of Feb. 27 will be spent at the port, Montego Bay, Jamaica, with music resuming on the ship after 6:30 p.m. from Keller Willians, Steel Pulse, Cool Cool Cool, Cory Wong, TAUK, The Sweet Lillis, Ivan & Friends, Magic Beans, Krasno Moore Project, Dumpstaphunk, and a late-night offering from DJ Soul Sister. 

Day four is another port day, arriving in Grand Cayman at 9 a.m. and departing at 5:30 p.m. Music picks up at 6 p.m., a la The New Mastersounds. Later on, more music will come from Everyone Orchestra, Galactic, Duane Betts & Cris Jacobs, and Shira Elias, in addition to a special Purple Party, paying tribute to the music of Prince. 

The final day of Jam Cruise 20 is billed to include music from Big Richard, Lebo’s Yacht Rock, Mike D Super Jam, Cory Wong, Cimafunk, Lotus, Perpetual Groove and others. Scroll down to view official breakdowns of the daily schedule for Jam Cruise.

Jam Cruise Delivers 2024 Artist Lineup

Jam Cruise has delivered the artist lineup for its 20th iteration of the annual floating festival, set to sail from February 25 through March 1, 2024. The forthcoming event will depart from Miami, Fla., and stops at Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Grand Cayman.

At sea, attendees can anticipate sets performed by moe., Medeski, Martin & Porter, featuring percussionist Aba Diop. Also included on the bill are Cory Wong, Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew’s Remain In Light, Galactic with Anjelika ‘Jelly’ Joseph, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Lettuce, Steel Pulse and Lotus.

Franc Moody, Dumpstaphunk, The New Mastersounds, Keller Williams’ Grateful Grass featuring The Hillbenders, Krasno Moore Project, Ivan & Friends, Perpetual Groove, Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country, Eggy and more have also signed on to perform during the wintertime occasion. 

Onboard special guests include Marc Brownstein, Duane Betts, Kanika Moore, Cris Jacobs, Adrian De León, Lyle Divinsky and Elise Testone. While Eric Krasno, Nikki Glaspie, Nigel Hall, Vaylor Trucks, Ross James, George Porter Jr., Stanton Moore, Jimi’s Dead and Matt Butler make up the Masters Camp at Sea lineup.

Jam Cruise 21 Sets Lineup Reveal Parties At Tank & The Bangas, Stanton & Friends Shows In New Orleans

Jam Cruise will celebrate the announcement of the lineup for its 21st sailing during a pair of concerts at New Orleans, LA’s Toulouse Theatre on Thursday, May 2nd during New Orleans Jazz Fest .

The official Jam Cruise 21 lineup announcement party will coincide with two separately ticketed shows featuring familiar New Orleans artists with notable Jam Cruise resumes. First, eclectic NOLA soul/hip-hop/jazz/spoken word outfit Tank and the Bangas will take the stage for the opening show of their three-night stand at Toulouse Theatre [ get tickets ]. After midnight, Galactic drummer  Stanton Moore will take over the room for a funk jam session with a group of notable friends including organist Robert Walter (Mike Gordon, Roger Waters, The Greyboy Allstars), enigmatic saxophonist  Skerik (Les Claypool), guitarist  Will Bernard , and local favorite trombonist/bandleader  Big Sam (Big Sam’s Funky Nation) [ get tickets ].

In addition to celebrating the floating festival’s 2025 lineup, set to be revealed earlier that day, the Cloud 9 Adventures team will be on site at Toulouse Theatre on May 2nd to answer questions and help pre-book fans’ Jam Cruise 21 trips. Making the most of embarkation day can set you up for an enjoyable cruise vacation.

If you’ve never cruised before, embarking a modern vessel for the first time can be truly overwhelming. You don’t know what you don’t know, but by not doing certain things within the first hours, you risk spoiling your dream vacation.

The embarkation day process for a cruise is like a streamlined airport experience. Cruise lines provide a time window, usually from late morning to mid-afternoon, for arrival at the port.

Upon arrival, keep your boarding documents and ID ready. Once you’ve dropped off your luggage, cruise staff guide you to check-in where you'll present your ID, complete a health form, and receive your cruise card or wristband.

This card acts as a boarding pass, room key, and payment card onboard. Some lines offer keyless embarkation, allowing direct access to rooms and cards collected at the cabin. Before boarding, you'll go through a security line, albeit less rigorous than at an airport.

Once onboard, make sure to do these seven things as soon as you can. From checking your accommodations to enjoying the iconic sailaway, these steps ensure you maximize your onboard experience right from the start.

As soon as you enter your cabin, inspect everything to ensure it meets your expectations and everything is in working order. Check that all facilities, such as the shower, toilet flush, lights, and electrical outlets, function properly.

Modern cruise ships are home to a dazzling range of entertainment and dining options. Early booking is crucial for popular onboard activities, dining reservations, and shore excursions.

In some cases, popular activities may have sold out prior to the cruise. For those that need to be booked on board, visit the relevant information desk or use the onboard app to make all your bookings as soon as possible.

You should also check your allocated dining time, if you are on a ship that operates a fixed dining concept. If you’re unhappy with the allocation, visit the maitre’d to request a change.

Attend Muster

The only absolute must-do on the first day is the muster drill. Prior to the pandemic, many cruise lines still required physical attendance in the theater or other large venue to go through the cruise safety procedures .

Nowadays, almost all cruise lines offer a virtual muster experience. Typically, a safety video is available on the cabin TV (which must be watched before accessing other functions) or even on the cruise line app.

You may still need to attend your designated lifeboat station to have your name taken, but this is straightforward and takes mere minutes.

Take Advantage Of Ship Tours

When you arrive in your cabin, check your daily planner to see if there are any introductory tours or sessions offered by the cruise line.

Embarkation day can be hectic and overwhelming. Join a guided tour to get your bearings.

Ship tours are ideal for first-time cruisers unfamiliar with the ship’s layout and generally how things work on board.

Keep an eye out for embarkation day tours or introductory sessions at the spa, fitness center, or casino. These often include special promotions or offers to kickstart your cruise experience.

Airplane Mode

To avoid hefty roaming charges, switch your phone to airplane mode. While at sea, your device could inadvertently connect to a cellular maritime network , which incurs high costs or data.

Even if you don't actively use your phone, you might accrue a significant bill from background data usage by your apps before you even receive an SMS notification—if you receive one at all.

Most cruise ships offer Wi-Fi packages, so consider purchasing one if you need to stay connected. Remember, cruise line apps typically require connection to the ship’s Wi-Fi network, but you can use them without buying an internet package.

Alternatively, use this time to disconnect and enjoy the break from constant connectivity. If so, use the time before sailaway to send some farewell messages.

Enjoy Sailaway

The sailaway party is a cruise tradition not to be missed. On many lines, the top decks will host live music and festivities as the ship departs.

It’s the perfect time to grab a drink, meet other travelers, and take in the stunning views as you set sail on your adventure. If you want to toast the sailaway, be sure to get a drink in good time, as the bars will all be busy.

MORGANTOWN — A baseball lineup can be constructed a number of ways

It’s a subject that is debated at local bars, in the stands and of course among coaches.

Generally, it’s the speed guy at the top, the power hitters in the middle and the contact guys at the bottom.

University head coach Brad Comport has his own thoughts on how a lineup is built.

“In our lineup, we have guys all over that can pick each other up,” Comport said. “If our middle of the order happens to be struggling that day, it’s the guys at the bottom that can pick them up.”

On Tuesday, the UHS bottom-of-the-order hitters provided plenty of offense on the way to an 11-1 mercy-rule-shortened victory over North Marion.

No. 8 hitter Brock McDonough finished the game 1-for-1 with two runs scored and an RBI single while No. 9 hitter Brance McCune went 1-for-3 with a three-run triple that blew the game open in the third inning.

It was that third frame that saw UHS (14-13) send 13 batters to the plate, smack seven hits and score eight runs to break a 1-1 tie with the Huskies.

“I thought overall we had a good performance,” Comport said. “We started a little bit slow but I’m really happy with how the game progressed and we were able to close things out.”

The Huskies (7-11) scratched a run across in the first inning when Colin Verbosky drew a one-out walk and then scored on a double off the bat of Gavin Owens. That was all the offense North Marion could muster against UHS starter Riley Anderson who pitched three innings with three strikeouts and just two hits.

Brodee Latocha pitched the final two innings as he wiggled out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth inning.

Latocha also had a good day at the plate as he finished with a team-high three hits including a pair of RBI doubles that both occurred in the marathon third inning.

It was McCune who provided the big blast in the third as he drove an 0-2 pitch into the right-center gap and then raced around the bases for the three-run triple.

“We always try to be solid at the bottom of the order,” McCune said. “If we continue to do our job, it only boosts what the top of the lineup can do.”

McCune said he widened out his stance and choked up on the bat before hitting the triple – his second of the season.

Senior centerfielder Wenkai Campbell ended the game with a single to center field that scored McCune for the final run of the game.

Campbell and Mason McDonald each had two RBI singles in the game while Anderson added an RBI single as well.

The Hawks finish the regular season on Thursday when they host Lewis County at 6:15 p.m.

“We need to prepare like this last game is a playoff game,” Comport said. “It won’t do us any good to show up and just go through the motions. Next week the playoffs begin, and we need to approach the rest of these games with a positive mentality.”

NBA playoffs: Celtics cruise to Game 4 win over Heat, lose Kristaps Porzingis to calf injury

The Boston Celtics got a big game from Derrick White and cruised to a 102-88 win over the Miami Heat on Monday night.

But they immediately shift their attention to Kristaps Porzingis, who pulled up with a non-contact calf injury in the second quarter and limped to the locker room. He was replaced in the starting lineup by Al Horford after halftime and didn’t return to the game.

With the win, the Celtics take a 3-1 series lead and face a closeout game in Boston. Porzingis’ status for that game and beyond wasn’t clear Monday night.

Porzingis limps to locker room with non-contact injury

The injury took place late in the second quarter with Boston leading, 47-31. Porzingis took a pass from Jaylen Brown in a half-court set, then lost control of the ball while pulling up in apparent pain. He immediately raised his hand to be taken out of the game and started to limp. 

The Celtics listed him as doubtful at halftime with right calf tightness. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported during the third quarter that Porzingis is scheduled to undergo imaging on Tuesday and that early indications are that he did not suffer an Achilles tendon injury.

Porzingis appeared to tweak something two possessions prior to leaving the floor. He came up limping in transition after a Celtics miss. 

He remained in the game only to leave the floor with a limp moments later. He was seen in a walking boot after the game.

 He also tweeted after the game "will be good."

The injury is a potentially significant blow for Boston if Porzingis is forced to miss extended time. Porzingis was key for the Celtics as the rolled to the NBA's best regular-season record at 64-18 in his first season with Boston. He averaged 20.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game while shooting 51.6% from the floor and 37.5% from 3 in the regular season. 

Derrick White leads the charge

With Porzingis sidelined and Boston's All-Stars struggling from the field, White took the offensive reins. He started hot with six 3-pointers in the first half and finished with a game-high 38 points alongside four rebounds, three assists and three blocks. 

The point total was a playoff career-high for White. He shot 15 of 26 from the field and 8 of 15 from 3-point distance. No other Celtics starter shot 50% or better from the field.

Behind White's hot start, the Celtics seized a 34-24 first-quarter lead. He kept up the pace in the second quarter with back-to-back 3-pointers to extend Boston's lead to 47-31.

He had 22 points at halftime as Boston entered the break with a 53-36 advantage. 

Boston scored the first five points of the second half and threatened to run away with the game before the fourth quarter. But Miami's cold first-half shooting (35.6%) subsided, and the Heat rallied to close the gap to 91-78 with 5:22 remaining. 

Injury scare for Jayson Tatum

Then the Celtics got another injury scare. With 5:04 remaining and Jayson Tatum holding the ball at the top of the key, officials whistled an off-ball foul on Heat guard Patty Mills.

Tatum then attempt to shoot after the whistle. Bam Adebayo challenged the shot, and Tatum landed on Adebayo's foot, rolling his left ankle. Tatum writhed on the floor in pain for several moments, then eventually got up with the help of his teammates. 

Officials went to the replay monitor to review the play. The called a flagrant foul on Adebayo for landing under Tatum's feet.

Tatum was fine and returned to the court to hit both free throws. The play halted the Heat run, and Boston closed out the game from there without further challenge from Miami.

Tatum finished the game with 20 points, 11 rebounds and five assists on an off shooting night (5 of 14). Brown tallied 17 points and six turnovers while shooting 7 of 18 from the field. White's shooting was the difference for Boston in an otherwise lackluster night on offense. 

Adebayo led Miami with 25 points, 17 rebounds and five assists. Tyler Herro scored 19 points, and Caleb Martin scored 18. No other Heat player scored in double figures. The Celtics forced 13 Heat turnovers, won the rebounding margin, 46-42 and limited Miami to 40.7% shooting from the floor and 27.3% (9 of 33) shooting from 3-point distance. 

The series shifts back to Boston for Game 5, where the Celtics can advance to Round 2 with a win.

Boston’s whale jam concert blends great work, great tunes.

With our impressive population of whales – including the annual pod of right whales – returning and whaling tours operating again, it’s the all about the cetacean.

This year, Boston has a great way to celebrate them, thanks to the folks at Nantucket Crisps (nantucketcrisps.com).

Whale Jam, a May 16 concert at Roadrunner in Boston (roadrunnerboston.com), brings together top musicians to perform in support of WDC, Whale and Dolphin Conservation (us.whales.org) based out of Plymouth.

This is the concert’s first Boston run; last year the company put on three smaller concerns across New England. When Nantucket Crisps founders Hayden Arnot and Sara Jemison – childhood friends from Nantucket – saw the response to those concerts they decided to go big.

Now, Whale Jam offers a night of music in support of whales. And with a tiny bit of planning, you can spend an entire day indulging in whaling season fun.

Arnot and Jemison decided to focus on helping protect whales when they founded the company during the pandemic.

“Nantucket has a storied whaling history,” Arnot said, “and you really cannot go anywhere in Nantucket without a whaling reference.”

But, he added, not all that is good.

“Whales were truly overhunted,” he said. They realized that with the founding of their company, they could, he said, “Help right a wrong.”

“All our efforts focus on the Atlantic right whale,” he said.

Melissa Walker of WDC noted that there are fewer than 360 known right whales in existence today, with less than 70 producing females. With many of them grouping off the coast of New England this time of year, they are in danger of accidental entanglements and vessel strikes. With the help of Whale Jam funding, she said, they are working at replacing long, dangerous lobster trap lines with whale-friendly fishing gear.

Whaling excursions have begun for the season, and according to a Facebook post by Captain John Boats (captjohn.com), the whales are plentiful, active and viewable already.

In Boston, you can head into town early and hop aboard a Boston Harbor Cruise (cityexperiences.com) and get up close with the very creatures you’ll be helping at Whale Jam. Cruises leave Long Wharf at varied times each day and take you way out near Stellwagen Bank for a few hours of whale watching bliss. There’s snacks and drinks on board as well as indoor spots to warm up – dress warm this time of year; it’s always colder out on the water.

The concert lineup includes Dave Shaw, Jonathan Russell of The Head and The Heart, Taylor Meier of Caamp, Marc Roberge of OAR, Matt Quinn of Mt. Joy, Joshua Harmon of The Backseat Lovers, Yoke Lore, Briston Maroney, and Adam Melchor.

“You get drawn in by the music you love and walk away with a mission,” Jemison said. “And that’s really what this is all about – inspiring others to care about these whales too.”
