It is recommended that you apply for your emergency travel document not earlier than two weeks to your travel date.

An applicant needs to be sure which airline and routing they will use before submitting an application.

Persons who hold other nationality passports (Dual Nationals) are NOT ELIGIBLE for emergency travel certificates

Emergency travel documents.

Emergency Certificates are issued only in cases of genuine emergency. This is a one-way document, issued to a Kenyan who needs to travel to Kenya urgently and has mutilated or lost a passport. The applicant must present himself/ herself to the Embassy in PERSON for interview. Requirements for Emergency Travel Documents are as follows: –

• Complete Form 19 (Recommender section not required);
• Application to be submitted at least three (3) official days to travel date;
• Two (2) passport size photographs ( See specifications );
• Copy of Birth Certificate;
• Copy of Kenya Passport and National Identity Card;
• Ticket itinerary to Kenya;
• An application letter clearly indicating IN FULL, the reasons for emergency, your residential address, telephone number, email, and postal address;
• Processing fee of SEK 200; and

Applying for an emergency travel document in Kenya

If your passport or ID card is lost or stolen in Kenya, and you need an emergency travel document soon, this is how to apply.

Follow these steps

Step 1: email the embassy.

Email the embassy in Nairobi as soon as possible: [email protected] . Include the following documents and information:

• your full name;
• your date of birth;
• the name of the authority that issued the document (mayor of...., ambassador to.....);
• the date of issue;
• the telephone number on which you can be reached;
• proof that you cannot postpone your journey, for example a travel itinerary, flight details, other reservations or a letter from your employer;
• your exact travelling route;
• your current location.

Step 2: Wait for a response and file a police report

The embassy or consulate-general will ask the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for permission to issue an emergency travel document. This usually takes between 1 and 3 working days. If you have not attached a scan or photo of your lost or stolen passport or ID card, the waiting time may be longer.

If the Ministry gives permission, the embassy or consulate-general will contact you to discuss where and when you can apply for your emergency travel document.

Reporting your passport or ID card as lost or stolen

While you wait for a response, you may report the loss or theft of your passport or ID card to the local police. This is not compulsory, but it can be useful. If you file a report, ask the police for written proof. You may need it for insurance purposes or to show the local authorities.

Step 3: Gather the documents that you need

Bring the following documents with you when you make your application:

• a completed passport application form ;
• a completed declaration stating that the travel document is missing (C2 Form);
• two passport photos that meet Dutch requirements. Find out where to obtain a passport photo in Kenya ;
• proof that you are a tourist or that you cannot postpone your journey;
• if you will be travelling by plane, train, bus or boat: tickets for the rest of your journey;
• if possible: a photo or scan of the passport or ID card that was lost or stolen;
• if possible: other identity documents or photos or scans of them;
• if possible: a police report stating that your passport or ID card was lost or stolen.

If the emergency travel document is for a child younger than 18, their parent(s) or guardian(s) must give permission. The applicant must:

• bring photocopies of the passport or ID card of their parent(s) or guardian(s);
• get their parent(s)/guardian(s) to sign the passport application form or fill in a proof of consent .

Step 4: Go to your appointment

The embassy or consulate-general will tell you when and where your appointment is. Bring all the documents listed above with you to your appointment.

You will pay during the appointment. The overview of consular fees in Kenya tells you how much an emergency travel document costs and which payment methods are accepted.

Once your application has been processed, your passport or ID card will be registered internationally as invalid. This means no one will be able to travel on it. If you find your passport or ID card at a later date, you won’t be able to travel on it either.

Step 5: Collect your emergency travel document

The embassy or consulate-general will tell you when and where you can collect your document. Bear in mind that an emergency travel document has a shorter validity period than a passport or ID card.

If the Ministry of Foreign Affairs decides that you need a new passport or ID card instead, the process will take longer. This may happen if, for example, the country you are planning to travel to does not accept Dutch emergency travel documents. In that case you may have to wait for up to 4 weeks.

Emergency Travel Document

An “Emergency Certificate” is a one-way travel document which is issued to Kenyan nationals who do not have a valid passport at the time when they wish to travel to Kenya. This document is merely intended to facilitate travel to Kenya, and does not allow for a return journey. The person to whom it was issued must, therefore, obtain a valid Kenyan passport during their stay in Kenya, so as to ensure that they can actually leave Kenya again.

NOTE : Please note that Emergency Travel Document is valid for use for 1 month from the date of issue.

Certain areas of Laikipia County, due to criminal incursions and security operations , reconsider travel through Nyahururu, Laikipia West, and Laikipia North Sub-counties.

Country Summary :  Violent crime, such as armed carjacking, mugging, home invasion, and kidnapping, can occur at any time.  Local police often lack the capability to respond effectively to serious criminal incidents and terrorist attacks.  Emergency medical and fire service is also limited. Be especially careful when traveling after dark anywhere in Kenya due to crime.

Terrorist attacks have occurred with little or no warning, targeting Kenyan and foreign government facilities, tourist locations, transportation hubs, hotels, resorts, markets/shopping malls, and places of worship. Terrorist acts have included armed assaults, suicide operations, bomb/grenade attacks, and kidnappings.

Demonstrations may occur, blocking key intersections and resulting in widespread traffic jams.  Strikes and other protest activity related to political and economic conditions occur regularly, particularly in periods near elections.  Violence associated with demonstrations, ranging from rock throwing to police using deadly force, occurs around the country; it is mostly notable in western Kenya and Nairobi.

Due to risks to civil aviation operating in the vicinity of the Kenyan-Somali border, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM).  For more information, U.S. citizens should consult  Federal Aviation Administration’s Prohibitions, Restrictions, and Notice .

Some schools and other facilities acting as cultural rehabilitation centers are operating in Kenya with inadequate or nonexistent licensing and oversight.  Reports of minors and young adults being held in these facilities against their will and physically abused are common.

• Do not physically resist any robbery attempt.
• Monitor local media for breaking events and be prepared to adjust your plans.

This document can only be issued after an interview at the Embassy in Bern which should be scheduled the earliest. To issue the document, the applicant is required to personally avail himself/herself at the Embassy within 7 days of the date of travel in order to receive and sign the document before the Consular officer.

The document allows the holder to make a one-way direct journey to Kenya where they are expected to report to the Director of Immigration Services in order to regularize their situation and will be withdrawn by the Immigration officer at the port of arrival.

Action Against Hunger-USA, an independent NGO, currently manages programs in 7 countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, and Haiti. Job Summary

Action Against Hunger Kenya Country Office is looking to fill the position of The Information Management Officer who shall be the reference person for all information systems encompassing data collection, collation, management, and analysis as well as related capacity building and support to the County government of Baringo on the implementation and use of those systems. S/he will ensure that appropriate information systems are developed and implemented in line with regional and international agreed upon standards in order to support areas of work related to assessments, monitoring and evaluation, reporting, advocacy and business development.

Humanitarian and development operations and programmes rely greatly on data and information management services to better identify, analyze, and visualize the needs of affected population and make evidence based strategic decisions in the design of assistance activities. The position will support in analyzing, documentation and development of Information Management Systems and Practices for the County government of Baringo, in order to optimize their information management regimes. Further to this, the position will directly support various sectors within ACF (Health and Nutrition, WASH, and Food Security and Livelihoods) in terms of improving Information Management practices. This will entail establishing templates, ensuring agreed-upon standards and branding, and ensure the accuracy of all spatial and non-spatial products, and subsequent analysis, is of the highest standard.

Essential Job Duties

Information Management Practice Analysis - 30%

The incumbent will understand and analyze the Baringo County Information Management Practices. Using Industry Standard Best Practice, s/he shall further identify shortcomings of these practices/processes with a view to suggesting improvements.

Information Management Practice Re-Engineering - 40%

S/he will use analysis of Information Management Practice to develop an Information Management system for Baringo County. The incumbent will oversee the implementation of the system by developing Information Management Protocols for the County.

Reporting - 20%

The incumbent will document Information Management Strategies and Protocols developed for Baringo County. S/he will document actions at various County Departments with a view of developing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for further engagements. S/he will also perform iterative improvements to the SOPs.

Other Key Duties - 10%

• Liaise with Information Management and MEAL staff to build information management relationships for gathering reliable data and using data collection tools at the field level.
• Assist in the development of an Information Management System based on accepted international standards.
• Responsible for administration of relevant datasets and/or databases including content, structure, file location, backup system.
• Facilitate Baringo County to agree upon standards in describing and releasing their data.
• Develop data collection tools as requested by ACF, Baringo County and other partners under the supervision of the HoD Information Management & MEAL.
• Contribute to situational analysis, improving quality of service delivery and identifying service gaps at County and organizational level.
• Assist and support implementation of trainings, meetings, conferences, workshops, and all Information Management activities planned by ACF.
• Responsible to create infographics, maps, dashboards, reports and all related Information Management products as requested by Baringo County or HoD Information Management & MEAL .
• Assist in the dissemination of ACF activities in the field such as trainings, meetings, conferences, workshops, and all materials developed by ACF.
• Support other Information Management & MEAL staff in identifying gaps on data and information relevant to ACF operations.
• Attend both County and National level meetings, conferences, workshops and humanitarian events related to ACF activities.
• Any other duties as required.

Working Conditions, Travel and Environment

While visiting the field, the employee may be exposed to precarious settings under high security risks and/or very basic living conditions and outside weather conditions, as well as to infectious diseases.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Management or related field
• A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in databases, mapping, visualization and design with an emphasis on web and mobile technologies
• Skilled in designing and managing relational databases
• Skills on developing Information Management & MEAL systems, data collection, data analysis, documentation, data interpretation and reporting will be an added advantage.
• Experience managing spatial data
• Strong verbal and written communication skills including demonstration of cultural awareness, diplomacy and tact
• Facilitation and training skills
• Fluency in English with good verbal and written communication skills, and ability to communicate and negotiate effectively
• Strong organizational and planning skills
• Extensive ICT proficiency with knowledge on MS office and other computer applications
• Positive attitude and strong analytical, interpersonal and coordination skills
• Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines, and to multi-task

Desired Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience working with the National/County Departments
• Demonstrated experience with data visualization & GIS tools
• Demonstrated experience working with and/or knowledge of USAID grants
• Sound knowledge of humanitarian standards and codes

Implementation of Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) in Kenya

The Government of Kenya implemented the Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) system in Kenya, in line with the Directive by H.E the President on Visa Free Regime and the Kenya Gazette Supplement No.1 of January 2, 2024, on Kenya Citizenship and Immigration.

New Digital Portal: https://www.etakenya.go.ke

The new digital portal has been launched, http://www.etakenya.go.ke, to facilitate the seamless identification of travelers to Kenya in advance. This portal replaces the previously operational www.evisa.go.ke platform, effective January 5, 2024.

Important Changes:

Starting January 5, 2024, ALL travelers (with exceptions outlined below) will be required to apply for and pay the Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) before their journey to Kenya.

Exemptions from Obtaining eTA:

• Holders of valid Kenya Passports or one-way Emergency Certificates issued by Kenya Missions abroad.
• Holders of Kenya Permanent Residence, valid Work Permits, and Passes.
• Holders of valid United Nations Conventional Travel Documents issued by the Government of Kenya.
• Members of Diplomatic Missions and International Organizations Accredited to Kenya.
• Citizens of the East African Partner States (Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda) – Exempted for Six (6) months.
• Passengers in transit through Kenya who do not leave the precincts of Airports.
• Passengers arriving and leaving by the same ship who do not leave the ship.
• Members of the crew of any ship, aircraft, train, vehicle, or carrier proceeding to a destination outside Kenya.
• Owners of private aircraft stopping over for refueling in Kenya without leaving the airport precincts.

• Holders of Diplomatic, Official, or Service Passports on official duty.
