FISHING ON LAKE COMO A few tips for your fishing trip

Lake Como is not only a beloved destination for its breathtaking landscapes and beautiful historic villas , where you can get lost walking in the botanical gardens that surround them. In fact, there is also a large amount of water sports that you can enjoy on Lake Como, and one of the most popular among locals is definitely fishing .

If you’re strolling along the lakefront of many Lake Como’s towns on a beautiful sunny day, it won’t be hard to run into some fisherman hoping to hook a few fish while chatting pleasantly with their fishing buddy. Fishing, in fact, is the water sport for those who love to relax, and what better place to do it than Lake Como, where every view gives an emotion?

Some rules for fishing on Lake Como

Lake Como fishing

Before you whip out your fishing rod, you’d better know the rules that govern fishing on Lake Como .

First of all: unless you choose to fish in reservoirs, you’ll need a fishing license . Depending on where you want to fish and where you live, there are different procedures and permits. So, if you are planning to visit Lake Como and you are interested in fishing, I strongly suggest you to check the fishing regulations carefully to avoid penalties that could spoil the mood of your vacation!

Another thing to consider is the presence of species that you are not allowed to fish for . The species protected by the absolute prohibition of fishing are all sturgeon species, common loach, masked loach, European bullhead and lamprey. Be very careful when pulling the line out of the water!

There is also a maximum amount of fish you can catch each day. This clearly does not apply to any alien species that can, instead, be fished without any catch limit. However, if you visit the site I have previously linked you will have the opportunity to know all these rules and thus avoid unpleasant surprises.

Species of Lake Como’s fishes

Lake Como fish

Lake Como is one of Europe’s deepest lakes , reaching a depth of almost 410 meters at its deepest point.

It’s also recognized for its lengthy history of fishing. If you know how to fish in the lake, you may have a lot of fun here, from professional fishing to sport fishing.

The towns of Como , Lecco, Colico, Tremezzo , Lenno, Laglio, and Bellagio all have excellent lakeside fishing opportunities.

You can find a number of well-known fish species, including:

  • grayling , and many more.

Tips for fishing on Lake Como

Where to fish in Lake Como

Okay, now you know all about the regulations and the most popular Lake Como’s fish species: you’re ready to go for your day of fishing! But where to go ? I’ll help you out: check out the fisherman’s map , which points out the territories where you can cast your bait.

As you can see, all the shores of Lake Como allow you to fish, so, unless it is explicitly marked directly on the shore, you can choose any point of the lake to start your fishing trip . Notice that there are many waterfronts walkways around the lake, some of which allow fishing and others which do not, so lookout for signs that state no fishing during tourist season .

Where possible, you can also rent a boat to make your experience even more unique. One good piece of advice is to try switching from a traditional fishing boat to a kayak , if you want to learn how to fish from a kayak without spending a fortune.

When fishing for northern pike in the lake, try to use a weedless spoon around vegetation. These spoons are often regarded as the greatest lures for lake fishing since they can be used in and around weeds and foliage without becoming snagged. Keep an eye out for logs or rock piles if there is little to no vegetation. When fishing around structures with rough surfaces, just choose a thicker leader material that can withstand abrasions.

Finally, one last tip: fish early in the morning or in the evening , precisely when the mild south breeze picks up, to help cover your fly line from the cunning chub.

Hi, I’m planning a trip to Lake Como, Italy in September 2023. I would like a guided marble trout fishing trip while I’m there. I can’t seem to find anything online. Can someone please help me find a guide. The one I did find lakecomofishing.com has a bad email address. Does anyone know how to contact them?

Description

The Italian alps, the mountains, streams, rivers and valleys of northern Italy offer a unique opportunity for fly fishing enthusiasts or fishermen who want to enjoy a memorable trip. Fishing in Valtellina takes place in one of the most beautiful and evocative valleys of the Italian alps, on the Adda river and the Mera river with their tributaries and alpine lakes. Valtellina is famous for the enormous presence of brown trout, marble trout, and rainbow trout. Valtellina is one of the best grayling waters in Italy and certainly one of the most productive in the whole of southern Europe. The average size of trout and grayling is truly remarkable: it is not difficult to catch many graylings and trouts over 45/50 cm daily.

Valtellina is famous all over the world for Lake Como where the Adda river and the Mera river pour their waters. Enchanting lake landscapes, in a breathtaking mountain environment, culture and traditions typical of this region, Italian culture and lifestyle, are essential components to make our customers live a unique and extraordinary experience. Our expert fly fishing guides qualified by AIGUPP (Italian Association of Professional Fishing Guides), qualified and certified by IGFA as Captain&Guide (International Game Fishing Association) and qualified in FFI as Professional Guide (Fly Fishing International), will be able to accompany you properly.

Fishing season: March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November

Recommended season: marble trout (March, April, September, October) rainbow trout (all season) brown trout (all season) grayling (August, September, October, November)

Guided Fishing Trips

Whether you’re looking for a last minute, fun activity while visiting Branson or travel to our lake area exclusively to fish one of our lakes, our professional fishing guides offer short or long fishing trips for the whole family. Considering the Missouri Department of Conservation stocks about 550,000 trout in Lake Taneycomo, catching trout is relatively easy even for the novice angler. Our Taneycomo fishing guides have all the equipment and expertise to provide a fun day catching fish.

Guided Fishing Trips Include:

  • Professional guide boat
  • The perfect rods and reels to catch trout
  • Bait, lures, and flies
  • Life jackets
  • Fish cleaning and packaging

It is your choice to fish with fly rods or spincast gear; both types of trips are available, depending on which guide you go with.  Some specialize in fly fishing trips so if you want to fly fish, make sure you find a guide that does that.

All of our guides are insured and provide the boat and equipment for your trip. Each one is USGS Approved with an OUPV Coast Guard Captain’s License to commercially guide on the White River System of Lakes.

The prices below include our fees. You may get a lower rate if you go directly to a guide. You can contact guides directly from BransonTroutGuides.com.

  • $500 for 6 Hours
  • $550.00 for 6 Hours
  • $600.00 for 6 Hours

What Time Do Guide Trips Start?

Depending on the time of year, guided trips usually start very close to sunrise in the morning. Afternoon trips start anywhere from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., depending on the client’s and guide’s schedule. On most trips, the client is to meet their guide here at the resort. Please come a little early if you need a fishing license.

For larger groups please call for rates. There is an option to rent a pontoon in which a guide can take only up to 6 people. His USCG license does not permit him to take more than 6.

Things To Consider

  • Taneycomo is a cold water lake averaging about 50 degrees year round.  The water in the summer is actually the coldest so early morning trips can be pretty chilly.  Bring at least a sweatshirt, even if the forecast calls for triple digit temps during the day.
  • If you’re going to keep fish, you should have a plan to transport your catch back home.  Bring a cooler and ice.  Your guide will clean and bag your trout.
  • We strongly encourage catch and release for our trophy trout. If you get lucky enough to catch a trophy, you have many anglers to thank for releasing it before you. Your guide will help you take good pictures of your catch and even measure your trophy if you want to get a replica made.
  • If you catch a 20-inch or larger trout and release it, Lilleys’ Landing will issue you an official Catch & Release Certificate, a C&R Patch and a nice C&R bronze pin. You will also be featured on our website. Ask your guide about it!

Wade Trips and Drift Boat Trips also Available.
