Drive to the ruins of Saint Pierre, known as the Little Paris of the Antilles before a volcanic eruption decimated the city in 1902 and discover how this partially rebuilt city was the most cultural and economically important one on the island before it was destroyed. Gaze in amazement at the spectacular Gendarme Waterfalls then walk through the lush rainforest to the beautiful waters of the Alma River.

You may also wish to visit the Sacred Heart Church. Also known as Balata Church, this structure was built in 1924 as a replica of the Basilica Montmartre in Paris and a refuge for the growing Catholic community in Fort-de-France following the 1902 eruption.

Make your way to Les Trois Ilets, a popular pottery village located on a former Jesuit monastery. Take a few minutes to watch the artists form and paint their wares then pick your favorite piece to take home. We visited the Balata Botanical Gardens and the area around Saint-Pierre including the volcano museum. Our guide was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. It was a very nice tour which could have been extended a couple of hours to see more of the island.
