Guilty Pleasure Tour | Meat Loaf

Meat Loaf’s 2011 Guilty Pleasure tour of Australia and New Zealand was a pretty straightforward latest-and-greatest jaunt, the name arising from his showing in a poll of Down Under guilty pleasures. The tour was nominally in support of Meat’s latest album, Hell In A Handbasket, which, despite being first released first in Australia, has absolutely no presence on this DVD.

The majority of the tracks, then, run the gamut of greatest hits with a smattering of songs from 2010’s so-so Hang Loose Teddy Bear. As one might expect, the show is theatrical, dramatic and somewhat over-the- top, with Meat in fine bellowing form, ably backed by a large, proficient band and his usual female foil, Patti Russo. The crowd responds most rabidly to the Bat Out Of Hell-related material, but the welcome inclusion of a couple of Rocky Horror Show songs and the less iconic Hang Loose picks make for a relatively varied set. The bonus documentary is the usual sanitised look at what it takes to put on a huge rock show: mildly entertaining but hardly essential.
