Taylor Swift Is Releasing ‘Partially Obstructed’ Tix To The Eras Tour So Here’s What To Expect

melbourne eras tour venue map

Alexandra Koster

General public ticket sales for the Eras Tour kicked off on Friday, June 30 and they were a bloodbath. Now, a final round of tix are going on sale today Friday, November 10. And while there are limited numbers and many are partially obscured side-view tickets, fans are scrambling to get their hands on a chance to be in the same (admittedly large) room as Miss Swift.

So if you’re anything like me, you’re in full delulu mode and planning your Taylor Swift outfits , operating under the assumption that you’ll absolutely get tickets in this final drop despite the fact that literally millions of people are trying to get them, far outweighing ticket availability.

Sounds bad for you, but not me! I’m getting tickets! Surely! Hooray!

At this stage, it’s important to note that being able to buy any ticket at this stage is considered a success . But we’re dreamers here at PEDESTRIAN.TV. We’re also a little bit delulu, envisioning a world where we’ll not only be able to skip the queue and buy tickets, we’ll be able to choose what section we’re getting to sit in.

But even if that’s not at all possible, let’s have a look at the layout of the venue and what we can expect if we do end up with partially constructed side-view tickets.

Luckily, a bunch of Eras concertgoers overseas have kindly spilled the tea on TikTok, sharing what the seats around the stadium actually look like. They’ve shared important things like potential visual obstructions and what your view will actually look like. And also less important things, like how likely you are to be battling hundreds of thousands of teenagers with their phones out for the full two-hour concert duration or the potential to breathe the same air as Taylor (a gift).

Regardless of what you end up with, be assured that there are no bad seats at a Taylor Swift show (except for the one next to me). Trust me, I sat on the very last possible row for her Reputation Tour back in 2018 and it was the best time ever.

So read on for the DL on each seating category for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and real-life videos about what kind of view you’ll cop based on where you sit.

Taylor Swift Eras Tour seating map: What will seating look like for Sydney and Melbourne shows?

Despite the MCG and Accor Arena being wildly different venues, all Taylor Swift Eras Tour shows have a pretty similar layout in terms of seats and stage design.

All shows will have your standard stadium seating, as well as some extra floor seats closer to the stage.

There are plenty of opportunities to get up close to Tay as all shows have a little runway stage that goes deep into the crowd. On this runway, there’s a big ol’ diamond, which Taylor spends a lot of time in (as she should — boo needs to be front and centre!).

Reserve seating breakdown: Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour

Great, now we can dive into IRL videos of what your view and experience might look like based on the tickets you buy.

While I’d love to be able to give you seat views based on the reserve class, that’s just not possible as we don’t quite know what seats will be under each category.

For example, A Reserve might mean floor tickets near the stage, but it might also mean front-row tickets in the lower bowl. Similarly, you might assume C Reserve is in the grandstands, but it also might mean an obstructed floor ticket. Ya feel?

With that in mind, we’ve rounded up a bunch of vids that show the Eras Tour experience based on where you’re sitting in the stadium. Please note that it’ll be hard to actually gauge how much these will cost you until we’re actually in the blood bath buying tickets.

We’ve all seen those videos of those people that somehow managed to cop front-row tickets on the floor (black magic, probs). But how do floor seats fare when you’re a couple of rows back?

Uh, pretty damn good. While they might be a toughie if you’re really short or bringing kids, the view here is so good, I’d sell my firstborn for it.

They’re also ideal if you really wanna be in on the action, like this TikToker who managed to get confetti’d into oblivion. Love that for her.

Despite everyone standing in Eras Tours videos, floor seating is allocated, so unfortunately, you won’t be able to smoosh that cute little face of yours to the front row unless you actually have tickets there.

To me, the lower bowl is the blend of all things good. You’re close enough that you feel like you’re in on the action, but being a little bit further away from the floor means there’s slightly less chaos around you.

You also have the benefit of being able to see properly thanks to tiered seating, so it’s a good choice for any shorties out there.

Lower bowl seats mean you can also take in the atmosphere as you’ll usually cop a nice 360 view of everything.

This vid was captured “from the 700’s”, which is a nice way of saying the very, very, very back of the stadium.

As you can see, it’s actually a surprisingly schmick view, proving that all seats are good seats.

Obstructed View

An obstructed view can mean a lot of things. It might mean you’ve got a dirty big pole in your way, or it might mean that you’ve been seated at the last possible seat on the side and don’t get a full view of the stage. For those gearing up to buy ticket’s in today’s drop, this is what you’ll have to make peace with.

In this TikTok, we can see that a person is seated almost next to the stage, resulting in a slightly obstructed view. That said, these seats are still pretty good as you’ve got a full view of the diamond, which Taylor spends a lot of time in.

These kind of seats might be worth it if you want to save a buck, just make sure you check what the obstructed view is.

What are the worst seats in Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour?

There’s a popular phrase going around currently: there are no bad seats at a Taylor Swift concert.

But if you’re really concerned about getting bad seats, it’s probably a good idea to steer clear of any seats with obstructed views. It’s also a pretty good rule of thumb that the more expensive your tickets, the better the seats. So with that logic, you’d probably want to avoid F and G Reserve tickets.

That said, I would happily sell my kidneys for any Eras Tours — even if it’s behind a big, fat pole.

Telstra’s top tips to get the most out of your phone during Taylor Swift’s longest-ever Aussie concert

  • Plan Ahead: Tickets, meetups and media

The event is set to be packed – so set up a meeting point with your mates and download your tickets ahead of time.

  • Apple and Android Users Unite: Optimise Your Settings

Before you head to the concert, dive into your settings and activate low power mode and turn off battery-sucking apps like those that use location services (GPS), audio or gaming features.

  • Dim the Lights: Brightness Tips for Brighter Battery Life

Your phone’s brightness doesn’t need to match Taylor’s stage presence – Lowering your screen brightness can significantly extend your battery life.

  • Flashlight Follies: Use Sparingly

Save your flashlight for emergencies or when Taylor asks the crowd to light up the stadium – your battery will thank you later.

  • Supercharge with Ultra Battery Saver Phones

Some Android devices specifically focus on squeezing the most life out of your phone possible with ultra battery saver modes – if you’ve got it, use it!

  • Embrace the Backup: External Chargers to the Rescue

For the ultimate peace of mind, bring along an external charger to keep your phone topped up throughout the concert, it just has to be smaller than the size of the device its charging.

  • We Stan a payphone

In a pinch and need to make a call for your lift home? Look no further than the trusty Telstra payphones scattered throughout the venue.

Taylor swift melbourne seating map shows crucial detail about mcg fans need to know.

Pip Christmass

Taylor Swift adds two new Australian dates to her Eras tour

As Taylor Swift fans raced for tickets to her Melbourne concerts, one important question was at the forefront of Swifties’ minds.

Where is the best place to sit at the MCG?

WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE: Taylor Swift ticket frenzy underway.

Swift is the first performer since Madonna in 1993 to perform three concerts at the famed cricket ground.

For those lucky enough to get tickets, the MCG has taken to Twitter to share a colour-coded map of the seating for the Swift concerts, showing the placement of the stage and the A to G reserve seating plans.

But there is one detail on the map that had fans temporarily confused - the black sections, which didn’t have a corresponding colour explanation.

“Perhaps the most coveted map in MCG history,” the tweet was captioned.

“Swifties, your seating chart for the Eras Tour is here.”

The black section on the map actually marks out where tour equipment will be stationed, leading some fans to wonder whether some seats nearby would have obstructed views.

“What are those black sections in the stands?” one fan asked.

“These sections don’t have room for seats as they house general infrastructure and equipment - anything that is an obstructed view will be flagged though,” the MCG social media team responded.

“How do we know if our seats are obstructed? Where is it indicated?” another fan asked.

“This will be clearly stated before purchase - if you can’t see this mentioned, you have not purchased a restricted view seat,” the social media team responded.

Others were surprised by the stage design, with one arguing the stage should be in the middle for an “in the round” concert experience, to allow more people in.

“I get this is her stage design but the stage should be in the middle if they want to maximise crowd numbers,” the fan wrote.

“Leaving out 20,000+ seats doing it this way.”

“I said that to a Taylor Swift friend of mine. They were certain she was gonna get 100,000 but the staging will not fit 100,000 when at least 3 bays are likely not gonna be in use,” noted another.

“Unless they really squeeze everyone on the turf.”

“Exactly there’s no way. They should just sell the seats behind the stage though if the demand is that high,” agreed another.

“Ed Sheeran played ‘in the round’ and fitted in 109,000,” wrote one Twitter user.

“I reckon she’ll get about 75k-80k. But Ed doesn’t have as many costume changes! (or as big a screen).”

Taylor Swift performing on the Eras Tour

Taylor Swift at the MCG: Eras Tour timings, set list and everything you need to know

Today's the day blondie enters the building! Here are the key facts

Ashleigh Hastings

We’ve counted days, we’ve counted miles, and now many months later, Taylor Swift is playing her first show in Melbourne today. The Eras Tour is such a big deal that transport authorities have even extended the free tram zone , just to help fans get to the stadium.

Ms Swift flew into Melbourne at 1am on Thursday morning and the final touches are being made to the  MCG  setup as we speak, so it’s time for those of us lucky enough to have nabbed tickets to plan the details of our long night out at the stadium.

When is Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Melbourne?

Tay Tay will take to the stage at the MCG for her first Eras Tour concert tonight. She will also perform on February 17 and 18 before heading to Sydney for four shows at Accor Stadium.

What time will Taylor Swift come on stage?

All gates to the MCG will open at 4.30pm, in case you’re reaaaaally keen to get in early to secure some merch. However, every single seat at the Melbourne nights of the Eras Tour is assigned, which means there’s no point rocking up super early to get a spot in the non-existent mosh. Besides, there are several ways to  buy Eras Tour merch before the shows .

The music will kick off at 6.20pm with pop princess Sabrina Carpenter as the opening act. We can’t be 100 per cent sure exactly what time Taylor will come on stage, but all signs point to around 7.30pm or 8pm at the latest.

What can I bring to Taylor Swift Melbourne?

There are specific rules for what you can and can’t bring to the Eras Tour in Melbourne. Here are the main things to remember this weekend:

You can bring:

  • One bag with a maximum of two compartments, smaller than A4 size. It doesn’t need to be clear.
  • Friendship bracelets, but put them in your bag or on your arms.
  • A rain poncho.
  • A portable charger smaller than the size of your phone.
  • Sunscreen, but not the aerosol kind.
  • A sealed, clear, soft plastic water bottle no larger than 600ml.

You can’t bring:

  • Outside food.
  • D-rings or carabiners for friendship bracelets.
  • Signs bigger than 28 x 45cm.
  • Studded jewellery (sorry Rep girlies).
  • Metal or hard plastic containers.

Are there any tickets left?

This won’t come as a shock to anyone, but demand for Taylor Swift tickets has been through the roof (and into the stratosphere, at this point). A  limited number of new Taylor Swift tickets went on sale at 2pm on Tuesday, February 13. Aside from the new tickets, re-sale through Ticketek Marketplace is your best bet – be wary of scams on other platforms!

What’s the full setlist for the Eras Tour?

The Eras Tour has a setlist like no other, spanning a staggering three hours and 44 songs. Since the tour has already been travelling around the world, we mostly know what to expect, save for some nightly ‘surprise songs’. Here’s the Eras Tour setlist for Australia:

  • ‘Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince’

Who will be supporting Taylor in Melbourne? What was the deal with extra tickets?

Singer-songwriter Sabrina Carpenter will be supporting Taylor on the Aussie leg of the Eras Tour. She's best known for hit songs 'Nonsense', 'Feather' and 'On My Way'. On Tuesday, February 13, a new batch of tickets dropped for the Melbourne shows – as expected, they were snapped up quickly and sold out within hours. The tickets on sale were for seats with partially obscured views.

Ticket scalping and purchasing resale tickets

Do not purchase tickets from anywhere other than the official ticketing agency.

Please read the  Live Performance Australia Safe Tix Guide .

We have not allocated any tickets for the Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour to unauthorised resellers (which include but are not limited to Viagogo; Stubhub; Ticketfinders; The Ticket Merchant; Worldticketshop; and Tixel).

We cannot guarantee any ticket purchased through unauthorised resellers or via websites such as eBay, Gumtree and social media Buy Swap Sell pages. To make sure you pay the correct ticket price and receive valid tickets, you must purchase via Ticketek Australia.

Frontier and Ticketek are not responsible for unauthorised ticket disputes and are unable to assist you if you purchase outside the official ticketing agency (Ticketek Australia).

What is unethical secondary ticketing and ticket resale?

Unethical secondary ticketing is when people buy tickets at face value and then resell them at inflated prices via unapproved methods and websites, thus denying real fans the chance to buy at face value.

This includes ticket touts and unauthorised resellers who use multiple payment cards, false identities and sophisticated computer programmes (‘bots’) to buy up large amounts of tickets which they then offer for resale at highly inflated prices.

How do I safely sell my tickets?

The reselling of any Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour ticket is strictly forbidden other than through Ticketek's official resale platform (called Ticketek Marketplace). Ticketek Marketplace is accessible HERE .

Ticketek Marketplace opened for the listing and resale of tickets at 10am AEDT on Friday 24 November 2023 and is available up until12pm AEDT on the show date for all tickets except VIP Packages and Hotel + Ticket Packages.

What else are you doing to combat the secondary market?

Your mobile phone number is linked to your ticket order. Your tickets are linked to both your Ticketek account AND your mobile phone number. This means your ticket and the individual information you gave when you purchased your ticket are linked. If a ticket is resold in any method other than via Ticketek's official resale platform, then the mobile phone number will not be linked to the ticket(s) and you will be refused entry to the venue.

What do I do if I get to the venue and believe I have purchased a fraudulent ticket?

If you have purchased tickets from anywhere other than the authorised ticketing agency, Ticketek, or their resale platform, Ticketek Marketplace, you risk not being granted entry to the venue. If you have any issues with your ticket on show day, please head directly to the venue Box Office. Please note, Box Office staff cannot assist those who may have obtained tickets through channels other than Ticketek or Ticketek Marketplace. You must have valid photo ID which matches the name of the Ticketek account for the Box Office staff to be able to assist you.

Melbourne Cricket Ground’s Box Office can be found at Gate 3 on the Northern side of the ground and at Gate 6 on the Shane Warne Stand side.

Accor Stadium’s Box Office can be found at Gates A/B and Gates J/K.

Taylor Swift Plays to Her Biggest Eras Tour Crowd Yet in Melbourne — See the Photos!

Taylor Swift played to more than 250,000 fans during her three-night stint at Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne, Australia

Alexandra Schonfeld is a features writer at PEOPLE. She has been working at PEOPLE since April 2022. Her work previously appeared in Newsweek .

Taylor Swift has taken the Eras Tour down under!

On Friday, Feb. 16, the Grammy winner took her record-breaking tour to Melbourne, Australia, and kicked off a three-night stint at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Next, she'll travel to Sydney for another four nights.

At the first Melbourne show, Swift played to a crowd of 96,000 fans — her biggest audience yet!

From the sea of fans to all of her glittering looks, see all of the best photos from Swift's time in Melbourne .

Grand Opening

After a whirlwind week stateside celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs' big Super Bowl win with boyfriend Travis Kelce , Swift was back to work on Feb. 16 when the Eras Tour made its way to Melbourne, Australia.

Kicking It Off

Swift played to a crowd of 96,000 fans at Melbourne Cricket Ground — her biggest turnout to date on the Eras Tour and according to the hitmaker herself, ever.

"This is the biggest show that we have done on this tour or any tour I have ever done," she told the crowd in a clip  shared on X  (formerly known as Twitter).

"That's the version you get of me tonight, the version that's completely starstruck by the fact that so many of you wanted to hang out with us on a Friday night in Melbourne," the Grammy winner added.

Ready, Set, Go!

Friday's show marked her first concert in Australia since 2018, when she brought the Reputation tour to the country.

She of course brought all of her sparkling costumes along for the ride and threw up her famous heart hands from the stage.

Crowd Pleaser

The crowd's size was on full display as they all shined lights from their seats while Swift serenaded the tens of thousands of Swifties.

Purple and Poised

Swift stepped into her custom Nicole + Felicia purple ball gown as she entered the Speak Now era of her set.

Strumming Along

And she grabbed onto another one of her guitars as she sang one of her songs from the 2010 album, which was re-released in July 2023.

Ready For It

When it was time to bring things to her Reputation era, she pulled out the Roberto Cavalli catsuit (covered with red sequin snakes!) that she has worn throughout the tour.

Shimmer and Shine

Over the course of the three separate shows at the Melbourne venue, Swift performed in front of more than 280,000 fans.

"Melbourne, what do I even say to you after over 288,000 of you came and danced with us in the last 3 nights ??!" she wrote on Instagram following the three-night stint. "That was unforgettable. You were on another LEVEL. Thank you for the memories. I’ll revisit the ones from this weekend often 🥲🫶."

On the Keys

She sat behind her mossy piano to play a few of her ballads during the set, which ran more than three hours.

Going Green

The Melbourne air looked good on Swift as her sleeves flowed below her arms in the Folklore era.

Guitar Hero

When it came time for the acoustic part of her set, in which she plays her choice of surprise songs, Swift wore this yellow dress as she launched into a rendition of “You’re Losing Me" — marking her first time performing the tune live — and "Red."

The following night she performed a mashup of   “Getaway Car,” “August” and “The Other Side of the Door,"   and on Sunday, performed another mashup — this time of “Come Back ... Be Here" and "Daylight."

That's All Folks

And as their show came to an end, Swift stood with her dancers as they celebrated the close of their first show in Melbourne.

A record-breaking crowd of 96,000 people joined Taylor Swift at the MCG in Melbourne for the first Eras tour show in Australia and her biggest concert ever.

What’s everyone wearing?

For the Eras tour, Swifties are spoilt for choice over which era they want to dress up in. Fearless girlies have the cowboy hats and gold sparkly dresses, Folklore girlies can wear anything flowing and cottage-core inspired, and fans of Midnights are opting for navy and stars (and anything bejewelled).

And if you’re still stuck here’s a mood board from the Eras queen herself:

Rebecca, 30, and Dana, 27 , forked out for VIP seats tonight and have just emerged from the merch queue – “it’s not that bad, we only waited for 40 minutes”.

“We’re in the Lover era,” Rebecca explains. “We wanted something pink but very practical as she [Dana] is pregnant and I’ve just had a baby. So free-flowing, but with a heart bumbag to give us a waist. Cute but practical.”

What are the different eras – and how to dress for them?

Now we are inching our way closer to the actual concert, let’s talk about the different “Eras” Taylor will be performing tonight.

The concert is a journey through all her musical eras, broken up among her 10-album discography (excluding her re-recorded albums).

We have jumbled them up back into their chronological order, so to not spoil the setlist order. Although if you are worried about spoilers you should tune out preeeetttttyyyyy soon.

Fearless. This era encapsulates Taylor’s early days as a country singer and songwriter, featuring songs from her 2008 album that put her on the map.

The look: sparkly dresses, cowboy boots, curly hair, pleated skirts.

Speak Now . Speak Now is Taylor’s third album released in 2010. She wrote the entire album.

The look: purple vintage dresses, headbands, 13s on your hand (Tay’s fav number)

Red. Taylor’s 2012 record is a fun time.

The look: high-waisted shorts, red, white and black t-shirts, red lipstick.

1989. Taylor’s fifth and arguably biggest album: hit after hit, which was really how it felt to be a Swiftie, watching Tay shine in 2014.

The look: set pieces, ankle boots, sequinned bomber jackets, white sunglasses, red lipstick.

Reputation. In 2017 Taylor released her sixth studio album that sent some Swifties in tailspin. I grew to love this era, and loved seeing her perform this album live.

The look: black leather jacket, fishnet tights, sparkly red, burgundy lipstick.

Lover . Taylor’s seventh studio album, Lover was released in 2019.

The look: pastel tie-dye tees, butterflies, temporary hair dye, anything pink with hearts!

folklore . This lowercase era is for Taylor’s first lockdown album in 2020.

The look: cardigans, cottage-core, flowery dresses, ruffled Victorian blouses.

evermore . Her second lockdown album, released in 2020, similar vibe.

The look: plaid check coat, turtle necks, sweater vests, braided hair.

Midnights : This is the era we are living right now. Midnights is Swift’s tenth and latest album.

The look: navy blue, purple fluffy coat, stars, blue glittery eyeshadow.

It’s no wonder people have likened this concert to a broadway musical.

Sydney concerts will go ahead despite asbestos concerns

Elias Visontay

The New South Wales environment minister has sought to assure Taylor Swift fans that the pop star’s Sydney concerts will go ahead next weekend, amid an asbestos scare at the precinct where she’s due to perform.

On Friday, the day after a special taskforce was launched to aid investigations into sites where mulch containing asbestos may be present, testing was conducted at a location at Sydney Olympic Park, where Swift is set to perform to hundreds of thousands of fans over several concerts.

Testing occurred on mulch on a median strip on a divided road on Friday, in a spot understood to be away from where the public would be expected to cross when going to Stadium Australia, where Swift will perform.

No traces of asbestos were found on Friday, and a backup test is being conducted as a precaution, NSW environment minister Penny Sharpe said on Friday afternoon.

If the follow up test finds traces of asbestos, the mulch will be removed in time for Swift’s concerts, Sharpe said.

Sharpe said:

This will not stop Taylor Swift performing in Sydney. Sydney Olympic Park Authority is inspecting mulch that came from the supply chain under investigation, that has been used on a median strip on a divided road. We are testing samples but, regardless, we can remove the mulch and remediate before Taylor Swift takes to the stage in the Harbour City.

Walking into the MCG, our correspondent Sian Cain had to stop Blessing, 28, and Praise, 24, two sisters who have amazing outfits corresponding to their favourite Swift albums.

“I can’t wait. If I think about it too much, I might start crying,” said Praise, whose favourite era is Midnights.

“I can’t wait,” says Blessing (favourite eras: Folklore and Red).

Blessing and Praise outside the MCG

Meanwhile, our reviewer Giselle Au-Nhien Nguyen has made it into the MCG – and whoever sorted her ticket deserves some kind of prize. We are all insanely jealous.

‘Swifties are the kindest kids you’ll ever meet’

Guardian reader Lerna has sent an email to our tip line – [email protected] – telling us her daughters will be reading this blog. That’s a lot of pressure!

My 16-year-old daughter and her bestie will be following along. They are massive Swifties but no matter how hard we tried we weren’t successful on getting tickets so they’re together tonight following the blog. Swifties are the kindest kids you’ll ever meet and we all wish everyone attending tonight and over the weekend the absolute best time! Tay Tay is The. Best. Role Model!!!”

Another reader Ed has sent in this delightful pic. “My daughter Elly and her friends are seated, excited and thrilled.”

The joy. THE JOY!!!

‘The best thing since sliced bread’

We have Guardian’s video whizz turned Swifty correspondent Lisa Favazzo on the ground armed with an iPhone and boom microphone, speaking with excited fans. Sendhil Rungasamy and Urva Patel travelled all the way from New Zealand to Melbourne to see T-Swift. They were so busy saving up for the travel costs they didn’t have time to make friendship bracelets. “You can’t miss the Eras tour ... it’s the best thing since sliced bread,” said Rungasamy. “We were working full-time to save up for the trip, one of our friends gave us this (the bracelet).”

Diehard Taylor Swift fans fly all the way from New Zealand for Melbourne Eras concert - video

Julie Cameron told Favazzo she’d been a fan of Swift since “she was in country”. “She’s such a good role model for the younger girls. She’s just an amazing person all round.”

Julie Campbell on why she's attending the Melbourne Taylor Swift Eras concert

Venue being tested for asbestos prior to Sydney shows

To sidestep from Melbourne for a moment:

The Daily Telegraph has reported that Sydney’s Olympic Park will be tested for asbestos this weekend, ahead of Taylor Swift’s concerts next week.

The news comes amid an expanding asbestos investigation happening across Sydney.

A government source told the DT that the testing is proactive. The exact location is yet to be confirmed.

Taylor is set to perform four shows at Olympic Park on Friday 23, Saturday 24, Sunday 25 and Monday 26 February. About 320,000 fans are expected to be at Olympic Park for the Eras concert and a Blink-182 show, per the DT.

More to come …

MCG turf to ‘lose two-thirds’ ahead of men’s AFL season

It’s the start of the men’s AFL season just a few weeks away, some are wondering what mark three Taylor Swift concerts and nearly 300,000 fans will leave on the hallowed ground.

Very understandable, given last year Ed Sheeran’s team reportedly spent $1.5m replacing the turf after his two record-breaking performances eight days before round one.

Footy supporters can breathe a sigh of relief though: this morning the chief executive of the Melbourne Cricket Club, Stuart Fox , said the process for replacing the turf in time for the footy season will be much the same as it was after Sheeran’s visit.

“This will be the biggest impact we’ve ever had on our turf, this concert, and that’s obviously because of the overlay on the turf, so we actually will lose around two-thirds of the turf,” Fox told 3AW.

“We’ve got a contract with a turf farm off-site, we’ve got 12,000 square metres of turf coming in next Tuesday once the bump-out’s complete and that is all replaced. It’s a huge impact, about a 12-day job to get it ready for round one [of the AFL].”

There was some criticism from players and coaches after AFL round one last year that the field wasn’t up to scratch – but it did pass all preseason checks and the replacement process was deemed a worthwhile success.

And never mind grand final day, Fox said the buzz around the city and the stadium in recent days was unprecedented.

“I’ve not seen a buildup like it before at the ’G. Logistically very challenging, but the hype and buildup has been incredible, particularly from the fans.”

In case you were wondering, Swift will be kicking towards the Punt Road end of the ground.
