NICKELBACK KEEPS ROLLIN’

Love 'Em or Hate 'Em- Nickelback has stayed relevant throughout the years by different means; from the memes they’ve been associated with, to the use of some of their older ‘hits’ on TikTok and more.

“Well, it’s a little-known fact that Nickelback predates the Internet. We’ve seen the whole rise of technology since we began,” said Mike Kroeger in an interview with ABC15. “It is fun, the social media element is really changing things up, and I really think that honestly its causing our audiences to skew younger.”

Ryan Peake agrees, and even finds it flattering that different generations can enjoy their music still to this day.

“No, it’s great, that’s something that… it makes us very happy that when we go to the show there’s this wide demographic of people coming to see us,” said Peake. “There’s the fans that have been there for a long time, there’s some new fans. I think that it’s really flattering that older songs of ours can still be relevant today still and people can still enjoy it,” he added.

The band is more than ready to hit the stage in the Valley after the pandemic’s previous halt on live entertainment.

“It’s been great, we’ve seen a real appetite for wanting to go out to shows, and kind of experience all the live music again which is fantastic because we were cut off for a bit. I didn’t even know if we were going to come back. Who knows how this is going to go. So, it’s great to be around everywhere and we’ve got lots of fans down here in Arizona and across the states,” said Peake.

Phoenix is the 15th stop on Nickelback's Get Rollin' Tour.

About Nickelback Named the “most successful rock band of the decade” by Billboard in 2009, Nickelback is one of the most commercially viable and important acts of the past two decades. The four-piece, comprised of Chad Kroeger, Mike Kroeger, Ryan Peake and Daniel Adair, is globally celebrated for their career defining and award-winning hits including “How You Remind Me,” “Photograph,” “Far Away” and “Rockstar” which all held top spots on the Billboard 100. Their success includes worldwide sales of more than 50-million units, solidifying their status as one of the top-selling acts of all time and the second best-selling foreign act in the U.S., in the 2000’s decade, behind only The Beatles. Their inescapable and irresistible smash “How You Remind Me” was named Billboard’s ‘Top Rock Song of the Decade’. It was the number-one most played song on U.S. radio (any format) in the 2000’s decade according to Nielsen Soundscan, with over 1.2 million spins.

Amongst all of these accolades, they’ve also been named Billboard’s “Top Rock Group of the Decade” and received nine Grammy Award nominations, three American Music Awards, a World Music Award, a People’s Choice Award, twelve JUNO Awards, seven MuchMusic Video Awards, and have been inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame (2007). With more than 23 chart-topping singles and fans spanning the globe, Nickelback boasts twelve consecutive sold-out world tours, playing to well over 10-million diehard and adoring fans. In March 2023 Nickelback will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the JUNO Awards.

About Brantley Gilbert

With back-to-back Platinum albums and a grassroots following millions strong, Brantley Gilbert’s music has been shared, covered and adopted as the soundtrack to Saturday night and Sunday morning by audiences around the world. The Georgia native who started as the defiant life-of-the-party can still go ‘til sunrise, but he’s also emerged as something far greater: the leader of a massive tribe of hard-working, fun-loving believers for whom electric guitar-shredding, rapping, and twang can go hand-in-hand-in-hand. They call themselves the BG Nation, and when the BG Nation watches Gilbert on a stage, they don’t just see a star. They see themselves. Seven No. 1 hits punctuate his career: “Country Must be Country Wide,” “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do,” CMA Awards Song of the Year nominee “Dirt Road Anthem,” “My Kinda Party,” RIAA 5x Platinum-certified “Bottoms Up,” “One Hell of an Amen” and collaboration with Lindsay Ell “What Happens In A Small Town.” Gilbert’s landmark record  Just As I Am  clinched the 2014 American Music Award for Favorite Country Album. Earning praise from the  New York Times , NPR,  American Songwriter , and more, Gilbert has mined a rich vein of conflict between the party and the pew on all of his albums. Instead of toiling in limbo, unable to enjoy good times for fear of Judgment Day, Gilbert fully lives––rowdy friend, man of faith, devoted husband, smitten father––just as he is. Gilbert’s new album,  So Help Me God , includes his latest single “Heaven By Then” with Blake Shelton and featuring Vince Gill, and is available now.

NICKELBACK 's history dates back to 1995 in Hanna, Alberta, where they got their start playing covers in a band called VILLAGE IDIOT , a nod to the small-town nature where they played and grew up. In 1996, Chad , alongside Ryan Peake , made the 10-hour trek west to follow Mike to Vancouver, British Columbia, where the band still resides and continues to make music today.

The band's numerous smash hits, coupled with worldwide sales of over 50 million albums sold, seals their status as one of the top-selling acts of all time and the second best-selling foreign act of the 2000s in the U.S., behind only THE BEATLES . The wildly popular smash hit "How You Remind Me" was named Billboard 's "Top Rock Song Of The Decade", which was a contributing factor in the publication's decision to crown NICKELBACK "Top Rock Group Of The Decade" shortly after.

Beyond their Juno Awards , the group has received nine Grammy Award nominations, three American Music Awards , a World Music Award , a People's Choice Award and seven MuchMusic Video Awards . They were inducted into Canada's Walk Of Fame in 2007.

Show Review: Nickelback continues to fill arenas on their Get Rollin’ Tour

  • July 17, 2023

If you forgot that Nickelback is still an arena-selling rock band then they’re here to remind you. The Canadian quartet packed out Phoenix’s Footprint Center last week for a raucous show that drew a crowd of all ages.

Country rapper Brantley Gilbert opened the show and had hands and beer glasses raised to the sky for his irreverent but energetic set. Flanked by his band, walls of pyrotechnics and plenty of cameras, Gilbert threw “My Kinda Party”. His time onstage had the people up and moving to all his down south hits and he even threw in some unexpected covers- think Godsmack and Korn for a twist. After a rowdy good time, Gilbert exited, leaving the crowd properly amped up for the headliner.

Astonishingly, people still think the Canadian-born Nickelback is from the American South and the group has allowed that to help them fill arenas for decades. They’ve had enormous commercial success in that timeframe, perfectly indicated by the wall of cheering that accompanied each new song in the setlist.

Drawing several tracks from 2005’s smash hit album All the Right Reasons, vocalist Chad Kroeger’s low rasp mirrored their recordings to perfection. The frontman was all smiles and jokes with his bandmates and the audience and, despite the size of the venue, the show felt more like a backyard barbecue in the sweltering summer heat.

Nickelback had everyone on their feet when openers Josh Ross and Brantley Gilbert reappeared with various members of their bands for a tour-wide cover of “Copperhead Road”. It was then time for the meme-worthy hit “Photograph” before the band pulled one lucky lady onstage for “Rockstar” karaoke with the guys.

From the pit to the nosebleeds, fans showed the band the very best of Arizona’s hospitality and cheered their loudest when the night concluded with “How You Remind Me” before a brief but epic encore. Those still making fun of Nickelback should get themselves to the gig- the energy and sincerity might come as a welcome surprise.
