Prague’s Craft Beer Scene: Discovering Top Breweries and Beer Spots

There are hundreds of best breweries in Prague where you may have a decent pint, which is surely one of the best things to do in Prague. Discover the rich history of Czech beer and sample some of the country’s most famous brands , including Pilsner Urquell, Budweiser Budvar, Staropramen, Krušovice, and Gambrinus.

Prague, the Czech Republic’s capital, is a symbol of the country’s rich brewing history and has helped put the Czech Republic on the international beer map. While the Czech Republic is best known for its signature Pilsner lager if you are wondering what alcohol is prague known for , the city of Prague has been making waves in the beer world with its thriving craft beer culture.

Prague’s beer scene is as varied as the city itself, with everything from centuries-old breweries to cutting-edge newcomers. In this essay, we’d like to take you on a tour of some of the best breweries in Prague .

The area that is now the Czech Republic has a history of beer brewing that dates back more than a thousand years. Brewing has a long and storied history, with the earliest written evidence being around 1088. Brewing flourished in medieval monasteries, providing a critical environment for the development of the methods and flavors that are now intrinsic to Czech beer .

The average Czech citizen drinks more beer than anyone else in the planet. Beer plays a significant role in Czech culture and society, being consumed at nearly every major event, holiday, and daily event. The country has a long tradition of brewing, and as a result, it is now home to many breweries, both big and small.

As an alternative to mainstream commercial beers, the craft beer movement in Prague emerged. A group of dedicated brewers and beer fans, frustrated by the lack of variety and flavor options supplied by large breweries, set out to change the game in the city’s beer scene. They sought to bring back time-honored brewing practices while also experimenting with new ingredients to produce unique artisan beers.

The increasing number of beer places in Prague is a testament to the city’s thriving craft beer culture. Craft brewers often take great satisfaction in the fact that their operations are relatively tiny. These businesses frequently try new hops, malts, and yeasts, leading to brews that range from citrusy IPAs to hearty stouts.

The craft beer scene is distinctive for its emphasis on working together as a community. Craft breweries frequently conduct community events, samplings, and brewery tours to spread knowledge and build community among beer drinkers. By working together, brewers and beer drinkers in Prague have built the city’s craft beer culture.

A Beer Lover’s Paradise: best breweries in Prague

prague craft beer tour

Pivovar U Flek dates all the way back to 1499, making it among the oldest breweries in Prague. Guests can enjoy a genuine Czech dark lager in the vibrant beer garden or in the historic beer hall.

Pivovarský Dům is well-known in the Prague beer community. This microbrewery offers an interesting voyage for the taste buds with its collection of over 80 different beers, including experimental and seasonal brews. They have a wide selection of beers that go well with their Czech cuisine.

Vinohradský Pivovar, established in 2011, was an early leader in Prague’s current craft beer industry. Their dedication to quality and originality shines through in their constantly rotating selection of beers, which keeps customers coming back for more.

Pivovar Matuška, located in the neighboring village of Broumy, is noteworthy for its impact on Prague’s beer culture despite being located outside of Prague city. They have built a solid reputation and a sizable following in Prague thanks to their dedication to employing only the finest ingredients and cutting-edge brewing methods.

The name of this charming café-brewery, which means “The Café That’s Looking for a Name,” refers to the establishment’s ongoing search for a suitable moniker. Both residents and visitors will be pleasantly surprised by the ever-rotating assortment of beers, which should encourage frequent visits.

Pivovar Národní is a new take on Czech brewing history housed in a stunning historic structure close to the National Theatre. Their beers are lively and varied because they respect classic styles while still being open to new ideas.

Pivovar Strahov, located close to Prague Castle, is a wonderful representation of the city’s historic allure. The Strahov Monastery Brewery is renowned for its excellent brews and unique location. A tranquil and lovely beer garden awaits guests.

The Czech Republic is many things – history, architecture, art…and beer. Really good, tasty, delicious Prague beer. That said, not all beer is created equal and the absolute best beer in Prague is local craft beer. We are highlighting the top craft beer bars in Prague where travelers can get a taste of the local product.

Best Beer Prague

Czechia is the birthplace of the pilsner and Prague has long had a reputation as the beer capital of the world. Beer, which often costs the same as a bottle of water, is for sale in every nook and cranny of historic Prague.

Beer aficionados who love their suds so much they want to bathe in it, can soak in Prague Beer Spas and lather up with beer soaps .

From cavernous Prague beer halls to street kiosks – and at every café, bar and restaurant in between – it takes little effort to find beer in Prague. However, we weren’t just looking for any Prague beer – we were in search of Craft Beer in Prague.

Best Craft Beer Prague

We are not entirely snubbing the classic, popular and mass-produced beers that centuries ago earned Prague beer-bragging rights. Pilsner Urquell, Staropramen and Budweiser Budvar are all fine beers, if you like uninspiring suds prefer pilsners and lagers.

And, quite frankly, it wouldn’t be proper to visit Prague without hoisting at least one of these in a classic Prague beer hall.

However, it would be equally shameful to visit Czechia (a country that boasts hundreds of breweries) and miss out on what’s brewing locally in Prague Craft Breweries.

On a mission to find the best Prague craft beer bars, we spent just about as much time sightseeing as we did sampling the local beer from Prague. All in the name of beer (and someone ought to do it, right?)!

16 Bars For Craft Beer in Prague, Czech Republic

We found several places serving up genuinely good craft beer in Prague. Our list includes a range of small brewers – some more inventive than others – and tasting rooms, located in the heart of Old Town Prague, a short walk beyond the city center or just a quick tram ride away.

To help you route your way to each Prague craft beer bar, we have provided the address and a link to find it on Google Maps. Additionally, we include a Prague Craft Beer Map of all the locations at the end of the blog post.

#1 Bad Flash Bar, Prague

Address: Krymska 2, Prague 10 | Website | Facebook Page

Craft Beer at Bad Flash Bar, Prague, Czech Republic

Located on the trendy, bar-laden Krymska Street, Bad Flash Bar brews their own beer, as well as sells beer from craft breweries around the world. Inside the shabby chic space there are 12 beers on tap and 300 bottled beers to choose from – as well as a casual atmosphere and friendly bar staff. The Bad Flash Bar Brewery in Prague also has a second location in Karlin .

#2 Brevnov Monastery Brewery

Address: Marketska 28/1, Prague 6 | Website | Facebook Page

Beers at Brevnov Monastery Brewery, Prague, Czech Republic

Regarded as the oldest brewery in Bohemia and the very first craft beer in Prague, monks started brewing beer at Brevnov Monastery in the year 993. They still produce traditional Czech beers today, operating the brewery next to the church in the former farm stables. During our visit to Prague, the brewery was closed, but we were able to order the monks’ fresh brew from the adjoining restaurant.

#3 Brewery U Tri Ruzi

Address: Husova 10/232, Prague 1 | Website | Facebook Page

Beers at Brewery U Tri Ruzi, Prague, Czech Republic

Tucked into the Prague Old Town not far from the Charles Bridge is Brewery U Tri Ruzi, a cozy and historic house that dates to the 15th century. Their beer is brewed on the ground floor – where they produce traditional lagers, as well as craft beers. The warm atmosphere was inviting, so we stayed for a bite to eat (which we can also highly recommend!).

#4 Craft House Prague

Address: Navratilova 11, Prague 1 | Website | Facebook Page

Bar andbeer taps at Craft House Prague, Prague, Czech Republic

Craft House Prague is a modern taproom, pouring beer from 27 rotating taps, as well as selling select beers by the bottle. The actual bar is rather small – and at first we thought perhaps it was a take-away only spot – but the bartender was both patient and knowledgeable in helping us choose some great Prague Craft Beer!

#5 Fat Cat Brewery and Pub, Prague

Address: Karlova 147/44, Prague 1 | Website | Facebook Page

Bohemian Rhapsody sandwich at Fat Cat Brewery and Pub, Prague, Czech Republic

Although located in the heart of Old Town Prague, Fat Cat is a spacious and contemporary bar serving gourmet burgers alongside a selection of locally brewed craft beers. The bright atmosphere was anything but traditional and seemed to attract a younger crowd, however both the craft beers and burgers satisfied our cravings!

#6 Illegal Beer, Prague – CLOSED

Address: Ve Smeckach 16, Prague 1 | Facebook Page

Illegal Beer Bar, Prague, Czech Republic

Illegal Beer is an unpretentious yet hip hangout featuring six beers on tap, as well as a few by bottle. Located near Wenceslas Square (and just around the corner from Craft House Prague), the patrons inside the small bar were a mix of locals and tourists – and the bartender was helpful with suggestions.

#7 Lod Pivovar, Prague

Address: Stefanikuv Most, Prague 1 | Website | Facebook Page

Lod Pivovar Boat and Brewery, Prague, Czech Republic

Lod Pivovar, a brewery on a boat, scores major points just for being unique in a city that is flush with beer bars. We were slightly skeptical of what the beer and ambiance would bring, but both were absolutely fantastic!

#8 Mrtva Ryba, Prague

Address: Benatska 4/1965, Prague 2 | Facebook Page

CZ Craft Beer

A bit of a hidden gem, Mrtva Ryba is a small, inconspicuous place located near the Charles University Botanical Gardens, south of the Prague city center. On our mid-day visit, the place was packed with a fun student crowd and, even on a chilly day, guests spilled out onto the patio. Catering to students, the Prague craft beer on tap was inexpensive, as was the daily food menu offerings.

#9 Beer Story, Prague

Address: Dlouha 14, Prague 1 | Website | Facebook Page

Basement bar at Pipa Beer Story, Prague, Czech Republic

Located just off the main square in the Old Town, Beer Story has the vibe of an upscale pub. The basement taproom features eight Prague craft beers on tap and a carefully selected menu of food and cheese pairings.

#10 Pivovar Hostomice, Prague

Address: Soukenicka 17, Prague 1 | Website | Facebook Page

Mug of dark beer at Pivovar Hostomice taproom in Prague, Czech Republic

With just three beers on tap, five tables and nothing translated in English, we definitely stepped into a local spot when we walked into Pivovar Hostomice. They only tap their own beer, which is produced in a brewery in the town of Hostomice, southwest of Prague. Off the beaten path, visitors seeking a truly Local Beer in Prague experience shouldn’t miss it!

#11 Pivovarsky Klub Benedict, Prague

Address: Krizikova 17, Prague 8 | Website | Facebook Page

Pivovarsky Klub bar, Prague, Czech Republic

The beer selection at Pivovarsky Klub Benedict is a bit overwhelming with some 250 bottled beers from all over the world on their menu and on display. We focused our decision on the six taps of locally brewed Prague draft beer at the bar to quickly narrow our choices. The staff were helpful – and although we didn’t eat, the food looked phenomenal.

#12 Prague Beer Museum Gastropub

Address: Smetanovo Nabrezi 205, Staré Město | Website | Facebook Page

Beer Taps at Prague Beer Museum Gastropub, Prague, Czech Republic

The concept of Prague Beer Museum (which is not a museum, although there is a real Museum of Beer in Prague !) is to offer a tasting room for small brewers from around the Czech Republic in one place. They offer 30 beers on tap featuring some of the best breweries in Prague. Plus, there is knowledgeable staff and a lively environment. It’s one of the best beer bars in Prague Old Town for visitors who want a comprehensive taste of what’s brewing in Czechia.

#13 T-Anker Prague

Address: 5th Floor, Namesti Republiky 656/8, Praha 1 | Website | Facebook Page

Beer at Sunset on T-Anker Rooftop Bar, Prague, Czech Republic

What’s better than a rooftop bar? A rooftop bar in Prague that pours local craft beers…which is exactly what T-Anker is. With a rotating tap of Czech craft beers and an elevated view, it’s a perfect spot for sunset. (Don’t mind the sketchy elevator entrance ; just get in and push 5 to get to the bar – then enjoy the view with one of the best beers in Prague in hand!)

#14 U Kunstatu Craft Beer Club

Address: Retezova 3, Prague 1 | Website | Instagram

U Kunstatu Craft Beer Club in Prague, Czech Republic

U Kunstatu Craft Beer Prague has a large range of regional beers from mid-sized breweries, as well as a few local Prague beers on tap. Beer tastings are their emphasis – and guests are invited to create their own sampler platter of beers or join the daily beer tasting event. We opted to simply have a glass of beer in the bar and mingled with fellow tourists.

Pro Tip : Take a peek into the cellar before you leave!

#15 U Medvidku, Prague

Address: Na Perstyne 7, Prague 1 | Website | Facebook Page

Two mugs of U Medvidku beer, Prague, Czech Republic

The brewery at U Medvidku is tucked into an upstairs room of a historic Prague brewery building that dates to the 15th century – and is where you want to be if you want to try their locally brewed beer (they serve mass-produced beer in the restaurant on the ground level). At U Medvidku Brewery Prague Old Town, the upstairs room is cozy, the beer is cold and the wait staff is all business!

#16 U Supa Prague, CZ

Address: Celetna 22, Prague 1 | Website | Facebook Page

Glass mug of semi-dark beer at U Supa Brewery, Prague, Czech Republic

Located on one of Prague Old Town’s main thoroughfares, U Supa is the oldest brewery restaurant in Prague – yet tinged with a modern ambiance. In the brightly lit beer hall a young man played the accordion while the busy bartender continuously poured their light, semi-dark and dark beers into glass beer mugs. It was quite the show!

Prague Beer Halls

Lokal Doulhaaa Beer Hall, Prague, Czech Republic

While on our search for craft beer in Prague, we managed to fall into a few drinking establishments not dedicated to craft. Although the beer may have not satisfied our snobby hop-loving palates, the experiences made up for it. Two beer halls stand out – one classic, one modern – both serving Pilsner Urquell and Kozel.

U Zlateho Tygra Czech Pub

U Zlateho Tygra is what I imagine pubs have looked like in Prague for centuries: shared wooden tables filled with boisterous beer drinkers. To keep track of the number of beers each person consumes, the server keeps a running tally on a small slip of paper at the table. We think it is one of the best pubs in Prague for a traditional beer drinking experience (and likely has the cheapest beer in Prague Old Town).

Lokal Beer Hall Prague

Lokal Dlouhaaa is slightly more contemporary, but far from sleek or polished. The lengthy beer hall seems to go on forever, but the service is quick and the atmosphere is jovial. We recommend trying the Tank Pilsner Urquell at Lokal. The unpasteurized, fresh beer – noted by the phrase Pivo z Tanku (translating directly to Beer from Tanks) – is a local specialty and famous beer in Prague.

Prague Beer Gardens

If your trip to Prague is in the summertime, we highly recommend drinking outdoors at one of the beer gardens in Prague.

Letna Beer Garden

One of our favorite Prague viewpoints for the phenomenal panoramic views, Letna turns into an outdoor beer garden in Prague during the summer months. They keep it simple with just a few beer choices (and no craft beer), but it’s all about the experience and location.

The Naplavka riverside is a fabulous place for a drink with some friends. Bring your own or hop aboard one of the docked boat bars. The atmosphere is unrivaled.

Craft Beer Spot

Featuring 120 on tap beers from craft breweries in Prague and worldwide, the Craft Beer Spot gets rave reviews by beer lovers. Plus, they have a quaint beer garden where visitors can hoist a mug of the best beer in Prague.

Top Travel Tips for your Trip to Prague, CZ

We have a few final travel tips that will help you plan your trip to Prague!

Planning Your Trip to Prague

Taste-testing the Prague best beer is just one of the many things to do in the city. As you make your sightseeing plans and trip reservations, be sure to stay on top of all the details. We recommend using a travel planner – like our Printable Travel Planner – to keep track of all the specifics!

Travel Planner Printables by JetSettingFools.com

Where To Stay in Prague

The best place to stay in Prague is in (or near) the city center. From a central location, visitors can easily explore the sights – and craft beer bars – on foot.

Airbnb in Prague

During our visit to Prague, we stayed in a great Airbnb Apartment. We have found that staying in apartments is often less expensive than hotel rooms – with the added benefit of a kitchen and, usually, more space. That said, on short trips to Prague, Airbnb fees can add up quickly – so it’s best to research multiple options. Use our Tips for Aibnb Guests for more advice.

Hotels in Prague

There are many Prague hotels and hostels to choose from in – or close to – the city center in a range of prices. Before you reserve your room, read our tips for Booking the Best Hotels at the Best Prices – and then hop onto Booking.com to find the best hotel for your trip!

Getting to Prague, CZ

Prague can be reached by plane, train, bus or car. On our trip, we arrived by bus from Dresden, Germany and departed by plane to Tbilisi, Georgia .

The city’s airport is the Vaclav Havel Airport Prague (PRG) and the main bus station is Praha Florenc.

Prague Transportation Tips

Our preferred method of getting anywhere is by flying (we are JetSettingFools, after all!). When we start looking for the best fares for plane tickets , we start our search for the best deals on airline tickets on Skyscanner.

To get between destinations when flights are not possible, we usually rely on public transportation and take trains or buses. In Europe, we use Rail Europe to find train tickets and our preferred bus company is FlixBus – as it is economical, clean and comfortable (and sometimes has on-board wifi, seat-back entertainment, refreshments and a toilet).

Once in Prague, it’s easy to get around on foot and with trams. However, renting a car can allow for more regional exploration – and it can save time and money getting from city to city (especially when traveling with more than two people). Use our tips for getting the Best Car Rental Rates .

Before You Go To Prague: What To Pack

We have just a few tips on what you will need for your trip to Prague. Find all of our packing tips – including packing hacks and our ultimate packing list – on our dedicated Travel Packing blog page.

Walking Shoes

Prague is a walkable city…but only if you have the right travel shoes ! Don’t forget to pack a pair of lightweight and comfortable walking shoes for your trip. I always make sure to pack lightweight and comfy shoes for our trips – these are my current favorites ! Kris prefers wearing Merrell trail shoes for city exploration (and easy hikes, too!).

Travel Camera

Prague is so photogenic! We’re certain you’ll be snapping tons of photos during your trip. Rather than relying on your mobile phone to capture the sights, upgrade to an actual travel camera for higher quality photos. We travel with a Canon Rebel (which takes amazing photos and it’s great budget camera for beginners) and use an everyday 18-135mm lens .

Prague Map and Guidebook

It’s easy to get turned around in any foreign city…and especially Prague! While we provided a map for finding the best craft beer bars in Prague, it’s also a good idea to bring a detailed city map for other sightseeing. Additionally, get a sightseeing guidebook for your Prague trip.

Day Pack for Exploring

Whether you travel with a suitcase or backpack , for your trip to Prague you’ll definitely want a great day bag to organize all your essential travel items in!

Prague Trip Insurance

If you haven’t already obtained travel insurance for your trip to Czechia, consider traveling protected with World Nomads .

Start planning your trip to Prague ! Search for the lowest airfares , the best accommodations and fun things to do …then start packing ! Want more travel planning tips? The Best Cities in Europe for Beer Lovers

Posted: March 30, 2023 | Last updated: June 7, 2023

From the iconic brewing nations of Germany, the Czech Republic and Belgium to lesser-known but excellent beer countries, Europe is full of great beer cities. What makes a destination a great European beer city? Well, for starters, it should be home to a legacy brewer or two, a few up-and-coming craft breweries and perhaps even have a unique beer style to call its own. The following 25 cities in Europe are all known for their beer culture in some way, shape or form and should be on the radar of any beer lover traveling to Europe. Pop a top, pour yourself a brew and click on the slideshow to experience a tour of Europe's great beer cities.

Beer in the brewpub

Arguably Europe's most enthralling destination, London often gets overlooked when it comes to beer destinations and that's a big mistake. During its brewing heyday in the 1700s & 1800s, this city had more breweries than anywhere else in the world and it even gave birth to three iconic styles of beer: porter, stout and India Pale Ale. Those great beers sit alongside classic ales and new-school craft beers on taps inside the city's sensational pubs, which are worth visiting the city for alone.

People drinking beer near pub

If there is one European city that is synonymous with its suds, it's Munich. The capital of Germany's brewing-mad state of Bavaria, Munich is home to iconic beer halls (Hofbrauhaus and Augustiner Stammhaus among many others), leafy beer gardens and the world-famous Oktoberfest festival each autumn. The beer culture here runs deep and a sunny afternoon spent in one of the aforementioned beer gardens will be a delight for drinkers and non-drinkers alike.

Beer at Oktoberfest

This is it, the precise spot where the magic started. Pilsen is the birthplace of pilsner beer (the brew took its name from the city from which it sprung forth) and a pilgrimage to the Pilsner Urquell Brewery is a must for all beer lovers passing through this section of Central Europe.

Pilsner Urquell beer

Pilsner may have been invented in Pilsen, but Prague is the place you'll have the most fun drinking it. From rustic restaurants & beer halls to specialist bars like Pivovarský klub Benedict and the famed Letná Park beer garden overlooking the city, the culture of beer is intertwined with Czech capital. And in terms of quality compared to the price you'll pay, Prague just might offer the best deal on the continent.

Charles Bridge in Prague, Czech Republic

Bruges will probably never be considered the "best" place to drink beer in Belgium, but it offers an unrivaled opportunity to quaff quality Belgian suds while being surrounded by one of Europe's most beguiling cityscapes. See the sights of the city before spending an afternoon sipping Belgian ales by a canal or paying a visit to the De Halve Maan brewery for an entertaining and thirst-quenching tour.

Hand holding a glass of beer in Bruges, Belgium

To clear up any misconceptions, they most definitely brew great beer in Scandinavia. Head north to Denmark's capital to experience the two of the continent's most revered craft brewers in their hometown (Mikeller and To Øl) before comparing and contrasting them to the city's two most famous big brewers: Carlsberg and Touborg.

Nyhavn, Copenhagen, Denmark

The birthplace of kölsch -an ultra-drinkable ale/lager hybrid-and home to characterful bars that proudly serve this great beer in tiny-yet-just-perfect glasses, Cologne is one of Germany's most underrated beer cities. Visit the Brauerei Päffgen or Fruh Brauhaus to sample the city's famed brew, but be aware that the beer halls' famously brusk waiters will keep bringing you refills of kölsch until you wave them off.

Beer hall in Cologne, Germany

Yes, Dublin is the home of Guinness and no self-respecting beer lover would visit here without raising a pint of the dark stuff in one of the city's fine pubs-many that feature handsome interiors complete with snugs-or visiting the Guinness Storehouse, but it's not the only great beer being poured in this city. A visit to brewpubs from craft outfits like Porterhouse-famed for this Oyster Stout-and Rascals will more than satisfy your curiosity for a taste of the current Irish beer scene.

Street scene in Dublin, Ireland. Temple Bar historic district

The capital of Belgium is arguably the best place to sample the country's greatest export. Here, you can choose from hanging out at elite-level beer bars or visiting the breweries themselves, like the legendary Cantillon, which has gained an international reputation for itself with its range of spontaneously-fermented beers. Don't forget to grab an order of some of the city's famed golden-fried frites (fries) after a session of sipping Belgian beers.

Europe's Cosmopolitan Cities: Amsterdam, Brussels & Paris

Bavaria is the undisputed king of brewing in Germany, but Upper Franconia is Bavaria's most prolific beermaking region and this beautiful town beside the Regnitz River should be a must-stop for any beer lover touring the area. Bamberg is renowned for its unique rauchbier ("smoke beer") served up at Schlenkerla brewpub, but it's just the tip of the iceberg as this small town is home to several breweries and just as many tasty styles.

Image of Bern, capital city of Switzerland, during dramatic sunset

This lively college town lies a short train ride from Brussels and in addition to being home to a host of great bars pouring and popping the top of great Belgian beers, it's home to global beer icon Stella Artois. Visit the Stella brewery to learn all about this iconic brand before heading into the town center to sip a few beers from one of Leuven's other local beermakers Brewery Breda.

Grote Markt and Town Hall in Leuven's main square, Belgium. (

Famed for its altbier-a chestnut-colored lager-style beer with a kiss of fruit-this city on the Rhine River is a beer lover's dream. The best part about a beer-centric trip to Dusseldorf? The city's brewing prowess has managed to slip under the radar to many beer lovers, so it still feels a bit like being let in on a secret. Be warned, the locals will probably will ask you if you prefer their altbier to the kölsch being served in neighboring rival Cologne, and well, you know the right answer to that question.

Rheinknie Bridge and Rhine Tower in Dusseldo

From the awesome Indian street food & craft beer mashup Bundobust to the renowned Runaway and world-famous Cloudwater, this city sits near the top of the British craft beer game. Visit to go a bit off the beaten path of Britain and quaff some tasty serious suds along the way. If you're into sports, pair up the beer-sipping with a trip to watch either Manchester United or Manchester City play at their pitches, both located near the city center.

Craft brews.

It's easy to see why folks would think that Italians are all about wine and wine alone, but those that dig deeper will discover a country in love with its beer and the Eternal City is the spot to sample a fine sampling of the nation's best brews. Sure, you'll be able to score Peroni and Moretti bottles all over the city, but you'll leave more in love with one of the up-and-coming birre artigianali (artisan beer) that you sampled in one of Rome's tap rooms. The best spot? That's easily Open Baladin, which features 40 Italian artisan craft beers on draft.

The Colosseum in Rome, Italy

Ghent sits in the "Goldilocks zone" of the Belgian travel world, as it's just right when it comes to the balance of its gorgeous cityscape and popularity. Visit one of the city's many cozy pubs and waterside bars like Het Waterhuis aan de Bierkant to sample beer from across Belgium or visit an esteemed local brewery like Brouwbar or Gruut.

Panorama of Vilnius, Lithuania

This regal city on the Danube is a wellspring of cultured pursuits, historical attractions and sensational food & drink. Walk the grand boulevards before taking in an opera or taking a spin on the famous Wiener Riesenrad Ferris wheel or spend your day exploring the local vineyards, many of which are located within the city limits. Regardless, you’ll be surrounded by safer than average streets wherever you go.

Wiener Ringstrasse with Burgtheater and tram at sunrise, Vienna, Austria

Another victim of geography-this time being overshadowed by neighbors Germany and Belgium-The Netherlands never seems to come up on lists like this, but rest assured that the Dutcch know how to brew great beer. Amsterdam is the best place to sample it all, with great bars like Proeflokaal Arendsnest featuring nothing but Dutch beer and craft brewers in the city like Oedipus, Brouwerij 't IJ or Troost brewing with enough skill to compete with anyone on the continent. Oh, and this is to say nothing of the city's most famous big-name beers that are great for a "when in Rome" order: Heineken and Amstel.

Amsterdam Summer

Partly due to its close proximity to both Germany and the Czech Republic, this Polish city has a rich brewing heritage, which has recently flourished yet again to become Poland's unofficial capital of craft brewing. Kontynuacja is a great brewpub to start your beer-drinking adventure at as they are renowned for their rotating taps and tasty pub grub.

Glass of light beer on the seaside bar counter.

The German capital is bubbling over with craft breweries these days, with a few of them knocking out stellar versions of the city's signature, ever-so-slightly tart Berliner Weisse. Brewbaker, Vagabund, BRLO and American icon Stone Brewing are some of the best beers and taprooms to seek out during your time in this effervescent city.

Magnificent Cities of Central & Eastern Europe featuring Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Krakow & Warsaw

Sure wine may be the first thing that springs to mind when you think of France, but here in the northern part of the country, it's all about beer. Lille is located a short hop from Belgium and its citizens enjoy a rich history of brewing and imbibing hops-based beverages. Spend a night or two here sipping local beers and regional craft beer at great bars like Les 3 Brasseurs or La Capsule and you'll leave pleasantly surprised at your off-the-beaten-path beer discovery.

A pint of beer

Bristol is one of the UK's coolest cities, full stop and it sits atop the leaderboard when it comes to brewing and craft beer as well. Fierce & Noble, Wiper & True and Lost and Grounded are three of the most acclaimed craft breweries in the city, each open to the public on select dates for imbibing sessions.

Bristol Harbourside Walk

Sure, this scintillating city on the sea is known for sangria and cava, but the beer flows here, too. Big-time brewer Estrella Damm is about as synonymous with the city as its soccer team, but craft squads like Garage Brewing, Barcelona Beer Company and La Pirata are giving it a run for its money when it comes to brewing in the city. Visit their tap rooms or one of the many bars around the city pouring craft beers to experience this revolution for yourself.
