Overall rating

A typical Travel Inn, basic level accommodation, clean and perfect for a short stay. Handy with the Twelve Bells Restaurant next door which is a lovely rustic country Beafeater with a really cosy feel serving nice traditional food and fabulous desserts. Breakfast can be taken in the restaurant and they generally have a good fry up, toast, choice of cereals and fruit juices. The Travel Inn is in a great location just off junction 11a of the M5 between Birmingham and Bristol.

The New County Hotel is the Closest Hotel to Gloucester Docks & Quays, litteraly being on the doorstep of the 1st entrance to Gloucester Docks.  If that location

isn't  good enough on it's own, The New County is slap bang in the High St (Southgate St).  

Walking is about 1 minute to the Docks.

There is a car park to the rear of New County Hotel called BlackFriars, this has no height restrictions.

Central Hotel Gloucester is 5 min walk from  the New County, & closer to the Train Station & New Bus Terminal

So about a 6 minute walk to Gloucester Docks & Quays

This is located at the entrance to Gloucester Docks, near the Quays Outlet Village.

Gloucester Docks are a huge visitor attraction. With a host of Bars & Restaraunts in & around the docks & over looking the water.  The Quays Designer Outlet Village is also located here, with a range of Discounted Designer Shops.

Throughout the year there are many Festivals held here, from The Tall Ships Festival, Classic Car Shows, Victorian Christmas Market, Summer Markets, to name just a few.  Quite often in the summer months a Makeshift Beach is constructed, & at Christmas an Ice Ring.  Check out the festivals to decide which ones you may fancy.

Origionally built & finished in 1827, it is today one of the most preserved examples of a Victorian Docks. The docks however date as far back as pre 1390 & where given Royal Staus by Queen Elizabeth I in 1580.

The current docks where built as a terminal for cargo ships to tranship their loads, to be distributed by canal throughout the country. This was due at the time to Bristol becoming too busy & expensive to off load at.

The ships entered the canal at the Sharpness junction from the River Sever & could directly access the basin.
