What to expect flying Qatar Airways first class

How to book qatar airways first class with cash, how to book qatar award flights in first class, take advantage of a qatar airways stopover, final thoughts on flying qatar airways first class.

Qatar Airways is Qatar’s national airline and, via its Doha hub, flies to more than 170 international destinations. The carrier is a member of the Oneworld airline alliance, which means that passengers have access to more than 900 destinations due to the alliance’s global reach.

The airline offers a luxurious first class product that includes premium dining, spacious lie-flat seats, ample entertainment and a bar on board. Here’s what you need to know about Qatar’s first class, including the flight experience and how to book it with miles.

Expect excellent service, access to the world-renowned first class lounge (Al Safwa First Lounge at Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar), a sizable baggage allowance, and lavish onboard extras, like the bar, exclusive amenity kits, luxurious pajamas and more.

Baggage allowance

The Qatar Airways first class baggage allowance permits up to two carry-on bags totaling up to 33 pounds. For checked luggage, the number and weight of bags you’re allowed depends on the route you’re flying and the cabin class of the original ticket you purchased (as opposed to the cabin you end up flying).

First class passengers flying to or from the Americas or Africa are allowed to bring two bags up to 70 pounds each. For all other routes, first class passengers can bring as many bags as they want, as long as they do not exceed 110 pounds in total.

Boarding process

Qatar boards in zones, with first class passengers receiving priority. If you’re flying out of Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha, you have a designated check-in section as a first class passenger. To reach the designated section, head to the Al Safwa First counter in row 1, which offers private seated check-in desks, a bellhop, concierge and some additional facilities.

Access to Al Safwa First Lounge and other lounges

First class passengers and Qatar Privilege Club Platinum elites flying in business can visit the Al Safwa First Lounge, which has a dedicated entrance right after immigration and security and is located on Level 3 at DOH.

The Al Safwa First Lounge is luxuriously appointed and provides many amenities like a cinematic media room, a 250-seat restaurant offering high-end dining, various spaces to sit and relax and the Qspa. The Qspa has nine treatment rooms, a thermal jacuzzi and a relaxation room.

In addition, first class passengers have access to all of the first and business class lounges offered by Qatar, plus over 600 Oneworld alliance member airline lounges around the world.

Qatar A380 first class layout and seats

Qatar first class is only available on the A380 double-decker aircraft. The first class cabin has only eight seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, providing aisle access for every seat. There are also aisle dividers, which can be raised or lowered.

When in the seated position, Qatar's first class seats are 23 inches wide between armrests. They fully recline to flat beds that measure 81 inches long and 33 inches wide. Each seat offers electrical window shades that can be controlled from the seat and a 26-inch entertainment screen with plenty of options.

Food and beverage options

The Qatar Airways first class food and drink options are luxurious and plentiful. Passengers receive caviar served on Italian crystal dishes, along with oven-fresh breads and various olive oils. Other dining options include fresh appetizers, entrees and dessert.

First class offers an on-demand a la carte menu so you can eat whenever you’d like.

Lounge on board the A380

An on-board lounge is a special feature of the A380. The lounge offers first and business class passengers a place to sit, relax, eat and enjoy some drinks. So, if you’re bored of just sitting and luxuriating in your seat, you can head over to the lounge to mingle and walk around.

Currently, Qatar first class is available on four routes. So if you want to experience first class on the A380, you’ll need to book a flight between these destinations.

Doha (DOH) - London (LHR).

Doha (DOH) - Paris (CDG).

Doha (DOH) - Bangkok (BKK).

Doha (DOH) - Sydney (SYD).

Booking a first class ticket with Qatar Airways is pretty straightforward, as you can complete the entire process online. From the Qatar Airways homepage , select the Book option and then choose flights. Enter your preferred route and travel dates, mark your cabin preference as Premium and click Show Flights.

This will bring up a list of available flights so you can see your booking options. Here’s an available one-way first class ticket, which costs a whopping $6,935.

If you want to experience Qatar’s first class, you also can book it with miles and save yourself a lot of cash.

You can book a Qatar first class award ticket on Qatar’s website or through a Oneworld partner airline.

Use Qatar Avios to book first class

The easiest way to book a first class award ticket is by using your Qatar Avios. You will first need to log into your Privilege Club account, which is Qatar’s frequent flyer program. To see how many Avios you will need, use the calculator provided on Qatar’s website.

qatar airways classes of travel

An example award search from Bangkok to Doha reveals that it costs 64,500 Avios for a first class seat. Notably, the website also mentions that award redemptions are not currently available on flights to/from London. This is disappointing to read, since that leaves only three routes for first class award tickets.

The calculator shows that a first class award from Bangkok to Doha prices out at 75,000 Avios, and the Sydney to Doha flight costs 105,000 Avios.

Here’s an example award search from Bangkok to Doha, which shows the ticket price in Avios along with any associated taxes. The award flight costs 75,000 Avios + $94 in taxes.

qatar airways classes of travel

If you don’t have any Avios with Qatar, you can still book this award as long as you have Citi ThankYou points or Marriott Bonvoy points , which you can convert into Qatar Avios. Citi ThankYou points transfer at a 1:1 ratio and Bonvoy points transfer at a 3:1 ratio. When you transfer points from Marriott Bonvoy to Qatar, you will get an extra 5,000 Qatar Avios every time you transfer 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, resulting in 25,000 Qatar miles.

In addition, since Qatar and British Airways both use Avios, you can link your accounts to combine your Avios balances . So if you have a lot of Avios with British Airways, by combining your accounts, you can book award tickets on Qatar’s website.

Airline:  Qatar Airways (QR) Aircraft:  Boeing 787-9 Flight # : QR260 Route:  Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) to Hamad International Airport (DOH) Date:  December 31, 2023 Duration:  5 hours, 25 minutes Cabin and Layout:  Economy class, 3-3-3 Seat:  25H Cost:  20,000 American Airlines AAdvantage miles + $23.45 in fees

My family spent our 2-week winter break trip chasing cold weather, castles, and Christmas markets across Denmark and Poland. I strategically routed our itinerary to end in Warsaw so we could catch a nonstop flight home to Doha, Qatar.

Join me as I detail my family’s experience on Qatar Airways’ 787-9 from Warsaw to Doha, with a specific look at the children’s meal, snacks, and activity pack.

Given my available rewards balances, I reserved 4 one-way tickets via American Airlines AAdvantage for 20,000 miles each, plus $23.45 in fees. I purchased the remaining ticket via Qatar Airways Privilege Club for 24,500 Avios and 240.43 Polish złoty ($58.60) in fees. The same award was 22.5% more expensive in Avios with Qatar Airways, and the taxes were 2.5x greater, so it pays to check your redemption options .

The way I booked the awards was to put 1 adult and 3 kids on 1 reservation and 1 adult on another. I felt confident that I could arrange our seats together at check-in, but we were comfortable with the adults being separate if worse came to worse.

Cash prices for this route are around $550 , and I felt I got a good overall redemption value of around 2.5 cents per mile/Avios .

I charged the taxes and fees to my Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card , earning 2x Capital One miles for the travel purchase. This is one of my favorite cards for flight purchases due to its travel insurance benefits for trip cancellation and interruption, trip delay, and lost luggage coverage.

The flight was initially scheduled as an Airbus A330-300 but was later changed to a Boeing 787-9.

Warsaw Chopin Airport

My family arrived at Warsaw Chopin Airport via a Bolt taxi, around 50 zł (~$12) from the Old Town area. The ride was about 25 minutes, and we arrived at 1:10 p.m. for our 3:40 p.m. flight.

Qatar Airways offers 48-hour advance online check-in for flights not originating or arriving in the U.S. I had set an alarm and easily secured a group of 2 and 3 seats together in 1 row.

When we arrived at the check-in desk area, the Web Check-in Bag Drop line was significantly longer than the regular Economy Class line. After not moving much and watching the Economy Class line move fairly quickly, we swapped lines, checked 1 bag, and were on our way.

Qatar Airways Warsaw Airport bag drop

The agent advised us to give ourselves enough time for security and passport control. We had been looking forward to trying one of WAW’s Priority Pass lounges , but we heeded the agent’s warning and focused on getting to our gate.

It took just over an hour to make it from check-in to the gate, and we had about 20 minutes to spare before boarding was scheduled to begin.

The flight boarded from gate 21N and was delayed by 10 minutes. We were in boarding zone 3 after business class and elites.

Qatar Airways Warsaw Airport 21N 22N

It’s worth mentioning that we saw transit passengers removed from the boarding line due to excessive carry-on luggage . This has happened to me before; Qatar Airways’ hand luggage policy is fairly strict, and staff may count and weigh your carry-on bags at check-in or the gate.

Qatar Airways allows for 1 carry-on bag weighing up to 15 pounds (7 kilograms). Any small personal items (no backpacks!) must also fit within this allowance if you have a standard trolley bag.

On Board Qatar Airways’ Boeing 787-9

Boarding a Dreamliner is a pretty comfortable experience; the economy cabin is spacious, and you never have to worry about having a place to put your bag.

The 787-9 has 30 seats in business (which is not a Qsuite cabin) in a 1-2-1 configuration and 281 seats in a split economy cabin in a 3-3-3 configuration.

Qatar Airways economy WAW DOH 787 cabin

We were seated in row 25 in seats D, E, and F in the center and H and J on the starboard side. I prefer the center seats when traveling with my kids , as the double-aisle seats make for easy bathroom access. We were seated in the forward economy cabin just a few rows ahead of the lavatories.

The economy seats were comfortable, with a 16.9- to 17.4-inch width.

Qatar Airways economy WAW DOH 787 row 25 center

Due to the strict hand baggage policy, I can’t think of a time I’ve had an issue storing a bag overhead on a Qatar Airways flight. The bins are deep and typically hold larger trolley bags. The storage over the sides is bigger than the center storage, accommodating 111 pounds vs. 56 pounds.

Qatar Airways economy WAW DOH 787 overhead storage

I like the Qatar Airways foldable tray table a lot — at half size, it’s great for storing a drink and snack, and if you don’t want the entire tray table right up against your torso, you can still place an entire meal tray on it.

The tray table does fully open, however, if you prefer more space for dining or working.

Qatar Airways economy WAW DOH 787 tray table extended

A feature I don’t recall seeing on previous flights was this drop-down device holder for phones and tablets. It had a rubbery surface to stabilize devices and was a perfect resting area for charging my phone.

Qatar Airways economy WAW DOH 787 device holder

The armrest had a standard recline button, and the seat could recline 6 degrees.

Qatar Airways economy WAW DOH 787 recline button

Another feature I appreciate on Qatar Airways flights is the adjustable headrest , which has a great range of motion for passengers of all heights.

Qatar Airways economy WAW DOH 787 headrest

The economy seats have a pitch of 31 to 32 inches. While the photo may look like I was a bit tight, my knees were not touching the seat back, so I could fully extend my legs comfortably.

Qatar Airways economy WAW DOH 787 legroom

Overhead were vents and lights for each seat. Departing from a chilly destination, we did not use the vents.

The flight departed at 3:52 p.m., and with a scheduled arrival of 11:05 p.m. Qatar time. The lights were dimmed during non-meal times to help with the timezone adjustment.

I enjoy browsing the flight menu, and Qatar Airways generally provides the menu weeks in advance when you manage your booking on its website.

This one looked like a winner, with an appetizer of grilled zucchini, tomato, and bulgur salad; an entrée of Thai beef green curry, roast turkey breast with cranberry jus, or rigatoni al funghi; and dessert of chestnut mousse with orange and chocolate crumble.

Drinks were served about 30 minutes after takeoff, and trash was removed about 30 minutes later.

The children’s meals were served at 5:09 p.m. Poland time. My kids have a love/hate relationship with these meals , so I try to review the adult menu with them ahead of time so they get to decide from those options or have a gamble at the kids’ meal.

This kids’ meal had a breaded piece of chicken over potatoes and vegetables , which looked simple and tasty enough, but all my co-pilot here ate was the 1 piece of watermelon shaped like an airplane. These meals tend to have at least 1 component that was not kid-tested, and that item here was a saucy pasta salad with lettuce, a hard-boiled egg wedge, carrots, and tomatoes.

Qatar Airways economy WAW DOH 787 childs meal

General meal service followed at 5:30 p.m., but alas, no turkey was available on my side of the aircraft.

The Thai beef green curry wasn’t much to look at, but it was absolutely delicious. The rice was a touch buttery, the sauce was rich, and the vegetables were well-cooked. The bulgur had fresh herbs, and the dessert, which is pretty typical of Qatar Airways’ “desserts in a cup,” was fantastic.

This meal was a 10/10 for me.

Qatar Airways economy WAW DOH 787 Thai beef curry

My least favorite part of a long-haul flight is the service delay from meal delivery to clean-up, which was nearly an hour here . Inevitably, I have a child next to me who needs to use the bathroom, requiring all the trash and trays to be removed for them to exit the row. Qatar Airways softens this blow during trash service with a Biscoff cookie and drink, but this replaces lots of trash with a little bit of trash.

The kids then received a snack box around 6:54 p.m. (this was the Movie Treats service). In my experience, these boxes usually arrive before the hot meal, but they did not on this flight. Since my daughter had already had the bread from dinner removed, I wasn’t sure what was expected of this butter packet.

Qatar Airways economy WAW DOH 787 kids snack

On previous long-haul flights, we’ve received a larger snack box in a plastic lunch box-style container that we never would take off of the plane. It would be full of candy, granola bars, and other less-healthy items, and by the time the hot meal arrived, the kids were so full of junk food that they never touched the healthier food.

I like that the airline attempted to serve the main first on this flight, but this snack box seemed unnecessary and packaged wastefully. My kids would have been just as happy with the bag of potato chips I was served around 7:40 p.m.

At-Seat Amenities

A pillow, wrapped blanket, and over-the-ear headphones were set at the seat pre-boarding. This collection also included a pandemic-era protective kit with a face mask, hand sanitizing gel, and gloves.

Qatar Airways economy WAW DOH 787 seat placement

Oryx Kids Club Young Traveller Pack

The children’s activity pack generally comes in some type of bag, and on this flight, it was a neoprene-style fanny pack. I’ve noticed that there is typically a kit for younger ages and one for older ages. This particular kit was for ages 3+.

Qatar Airways economy WAW DOH 787 kids kit

Inside was a “Discover the Biomes!” game and colored pencils.

Qatar Airways economy WAW DOH 787 kids kit game

Since our family of 5 travels light and my 3 kids rarely play with these kits, I have started declining them to reduce waste.

Inflight Entertainment

The seat back boasts a 13-inch IFE touch screen (significantly better than the 777-200LR I flew from DOH-DFW in May 2023). This is hands-down my favorite IFE in the sky — the screen is huge and responsive, and Oryx One has an expansive selection of entertainment options.

Qatar Airways economy WAW DOH 787 IFE Oryx One

The screens could adjust forward to improve the viewing angle if the person ahead of you reclined.

Qatar Airways economy WAW DOH 787 IFE screen adjustment

The bottom of the screen had inputs for headphones, USB-C, and USB-A. Combined with the device holder, this made charging my phone a breeze.

Privilege Club  members have access to  1 hour of free Wi-Fi . Full-flight internet was available for $10 on board. You can save 20% by prepurchasing a voucher before your trip.

On my outbound flight to Europe, I had tremendous difficulty connecting to the Wi-Fi (so much so that the fees were refunded), so I didn’t bother with Wi-Fi on this short flight.

The sink and toilet were hands-free, and the sink had temperature controls.

Qatar Airways economy WAW DOH 787 lavatory

The lavatory was very, very small and cramped. A changing table was above the toilet.

Qatar Airways economy WAW DOH 787 lavatory toilet

The sink area was clean and kept tidy throughout the flight. I also appreciated the fragrance mist to help make the space smell a little less bathroom-y.

Qatar Airways economy WAW DOH 787 lavatory sink

My interactions with the staff were generally pleasant. For a 5.5-hour flight, there were 4 rounds of food service for drinks, snacks, and the meal. This generates a lot of trash, and my experience could have been improved with a swifter removal of trays and trash. With such a large economy cabin to serve, I realize this is not always possible.

On both my outbound and inbound flights, I was keenly observant of flight attendants and their supervisors greeting elites at their seats, allowing them to preselect their meals, and checking in with them after meal service and at the end of the flight. These interactions were a notable touch of elevated service in the economy cabin.

Our descent began at 10:02 p.m. Qatar time (2 hours ahead of Poland), even though the final trash service had not commenced. We touched down at 10:45 p.m. and parked at 10:56 p.m. I grumbled a bit after realizing we would be parked remotely and bussed to the terminal vs. directly deplaning at the terminal via a jet bridge.

Qatar Airways economy WAW DOH 787 bus on arrival

We were off the plane by 11:11 p.m. and boarded the bus to the terminal. A whopping 20 minutes later, transit passengers were dropped at gate C36, and the remaining passengers were dropped at immigration 5 minutes later. From when we deplaned to when we arrived at immigration, 25 minutes had passed.

After clearing immigration and customs, my family made it into a taxi just before midnight, jubilantly counting down to the new year with our driver.

Flying with Qatar Airways in economy is almost always a great experience, and this flight from Warsaw to Doha was no exception. My husband and I thought the Oryx One programming and meals were excellent on this flight.

The airline makes a great effort to make the flight experience enjoyable for kids, from the activity pack to early child meal service to an abundance of treats and drinks. Save eating healthy for another day. Take my advice, and don’t even bother counting the juices or Fantas your kids are consuming — the freedom to let loose a bit has made some great memories for my kids.

The Complete Guide to Qatar Airways First Class

Qatar Airways First Class is an aspirational airline product that may have a very short lifespan left. If you wish to experience the best of what Qatar Airways has to offer, you might need to do so sooner rather than later.

At one point, it looked as if Qatar Airways First Class was going to be a thing of the past, as the airline had retired its fleet of Airbus A380s. However, these flying giants have since been brought back to life, and with them the airline’s First Class cabins.

In this guide, we’ll cover everything there is to know about the Qatar Airways First Class experience, including the best ways to book this product using points, the available routes, which aircraft offer Qatar Airways First Class, and booking logistics.

The Qatar Airways First Class Experience

The Qatar Airways First Class product is most commonly found on the upper deck of the mammoth Airbus A380. This double-decker plane is the world’s largest passenger jet, and there’s no better feeling than ascending a staircase to find your First Class suite.

What’s more, you’ll also have access to a world-class onboard bar and lounge aboard the A380 during the flight, fine dining that includes caviar service, and a tremendous ground experience in Doha prior to boarding.

Ground Experience

Qatar Airways is based out of Doha, Qatar. Doha’s Hamad International Airport is host to the airline’s flagship lounge, the sprawling Al Safwa First Class Lounge .

Ranking amongst the world’s best First Class lounges, the Al Safwa First Class Lounge offers complimentary acccess for Qatar Airways First Class passengers departing from or transiting through Doha.

With such an exclusive access policy, and with plenty of real estate within the lounge, the Al Safwa First Class Lounge never really gets crowded.

You’ll often be one of the only guests roaming through the lounge, enjoying the fine art museum, wining and dining, or indulging in a spa treatment with the ever-unique jacuzzi experience.

The Al Safwa First Class Lounge is also equipped with private rooms that are essentially small hotel rooms. Inside these rooms, you’ll find a twin bed, a desk, and an ensuite bathroom.

These secluded spaces can be booked for up to six hours at a time, should you need to get some rest or work done before your next flight.

The Al Safwa First Class Lounge has some top-quality dining options, with food ordered from an à la carte menu. Furthermore, there’s a well-stocked bar with staff available to mix up any delicious libation at your request.

First Class passengers also have access to Qatar Airways’ dedicated business class lounge, the Al Mourjan Business Lounge . However, if you only have time to visit one lounge, then the Al Safwa First Class Lounge would be the obvious choice.

qatar airways classes of travel

Qatar Airways First Class is currently offered on two different aircraft: the Airbus A380 and the Boeing 777.  The latter set of aircraft are currently being leased from Cathay Pacific through to March 2023.

As you ascend to the A380 First Class cabin via a staircase, you’ll immediately notice two distinct features. First, you’ll be awestruck at the sheer size of the First Class suite, and most notably, the width of the seat.

Second, you’ll notice an ottoman, which serves as an additional seat if you wish to dine with a travel companion at 35,000 feet.

Controls are available to turn the seat into a complete lie-flat bed or set it to a lounging position, as you prefer. In addition, the controls adjust the automated window blinds on all three of your windows, which can create a blackout atmosphere.

There’s also a privacy partition that can be raised or lowered with a push of a button.

Despite the presence of a privacy partition, the Qatar Airways A380 First Class seats are still fairly open to the aisle, especially when compared to more private First Class experiences on Etihad Airways , Emirates , or Singapore Airlines .

Meanwhile, if you find yourself on one of the only four Boeing 777s leased from Cathay Pacific, you’ll notice that they haven’t been completely refurbished.

In fact, the seats are the same as you’d find if you were flying Cathay Pacific First Class , except they’re dressed in Qatar Airways’s colours.

There are still many vestiges of Cathay Pacific, such as the airline’s name still being featured on the small entertainment screen.

The hybrid Qatar Airways/Cathay Pacific Boeing 777 First Class seat also features an ottoman that can play host to a guest for in-flight dining.

Similar to the Airbus A380, the seat is incredibly spacious and substantially wider than your average First Class seat. The aisle-side armrest has been removed to make more room for the seat itself.

Food and Drink

Prior to take off, you’ll be offered a choice of welcome beverages, including a staple of Qatar Airways First Class: Krug 2004 Champagne . This iconic Champagne is one of the most expensive drinks you can order in the sky across all airlines.

Furthermore, Qatar Airways First Class passengers are welcomed with Arabic coffee and a pitted date. The coffee is poured from a beautiful vessel.

Top-quality food items can be found on a cardstock menu, which includes a mix of western and Qatari dishes. You may choose to dine at any time during the flight, selecting from any of the à la carte options.

The quintessential First Class staple, caviar, can be ordered as an appetizer as part of Qatar Airways’ unique pairing of caviar with Balik-style smoked salmon.

In addition to Champagne, there are many more top-shelf drinks to order, including classic cocktails, spirits, cognac, liqueurs, wine, and beer.

Passengers can easily wine and dine together by making use of the secondary seat. The First Class suite’s tray table is plenty large enough to comfortably serve its signature dishes – such as pan-fried king prawns and pandan mousse cake – for two people.

Qatar Airways First Class Aircraft Cabins

Despite having temporarily retired the Airbus A380s during the pandemic, Qatar Airways had no choice but to bring them back after encountering issues with its fleet of Airbus A350s.

Qatar Airways appears to have prioritized the rollout and development of its flagship business class product, Qatar Airways Qsuites , over further expanding the First Class offering. In that light, I’m not sure how much longer the First Class product will be around.

Qatar Airways only has eight Airbus A380s presently in operation, plus only four Boeing 777 aircraft with a First Class layout.

Note that in addition to the Airbus A380s and the Boeing 777s, Qatar Airways also markets some business class flights to Gulf countries as First Class.

Despite bearing the name, these “First Class” seats more closely resemble that of a traditional business class product – although they do offer access to the Al Safwa First Class Lounge.

Airbus A380

The Airbus A380 is a double-decker aircraft equipped with two staircases: one at the front, and one at the back.

The upper deck is home to First Class, business class, and a small portion of economy class. The lower deck is entirely made up of economy class.

There are eight First Class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, spread across two rows. These eight seats have a pitch of 83” and a seat width of 23”.

Solo travellers benefit from more privacy in window seats, which are Seats 1A, 1K, 2A, and 2K.

Those travelling as a pair can take advantage of the ability to dine together from any seat. However, in order to enjoy the whole flight together, the middle seats would be the best option.

In this case, you’ll want to choose either Seats 1E and 1F or Seats 2E and 2F.

Located to the back of the upper deck, in between the business class cabin and the economy class mini-cabin, is the famous Qatar Airways A380 onboard bar and lounge.

The sleek S-curved bar is available for both First Class and business class passengers alike.

Here, you can have a dedicated bartender throw together a fresh cocktail. You can choose to take it back to your seat to enjoy, or you can also enjoy it in the comfort of one of many lounge seats.

The A380 also has two incredibly spacious First Class bathrooms.

The four leased Boeing 777s offer a First Class cabin in a 1-1-1 layout. On these aircraft, there are only six First Class seats, spread out over three rows.

Similar to the A380 First Class product, passengers can dine together in every seat; however, due to the 1-1-1 layout, there is no option for side-by-side seating.

Those travelling with a companion will want to select either Seats 1D and 1K or Seats 2D and 2K, as these seats share access to an aisle.

Alternatively, consider picking Seats 1A and 1K to have the entire aisle to yourselves (though you’ll be sitting front-to-back rather than side-by-side).

Solo travellers who seek the most privacy will definitely want to select window Seats 1A or 2A, as you’ll have no one across the aisle from you.

Qatar Airways First Class Routes

If you’d like to fly Qatar Airways First Class, there are only a few routes that you’ll have to look out for.

Qatar Airways only operates the A380 First Class product, depicted below in blue, on routes to London, Paris, Sydney, and Bangkok. Meanwhile, the hybrid First Class on the Boeing 777s, depicted below in red, only operate to Malé and Zürich.

As always, routes featuring First Class are subject to change.

How to Redeem Points for Qatar Airways First Class

Qatar Airways is part of the Oneworld alliance. Naturally, redemptions for Qatar Airways flights are best made through the loyalty programs of Oneworld member airlines.

British Airways/Qatar Airways Avios

Since partnering with British Airways and joining the Avios loyalty program in March 2022 , Avios can be transferred easily between British Airways, Qatar Airways, Aer Lingus, and Iberia.

Using the Qatar Airways Qcalculator , these routes require the following amounts of Qatar Airways Avios for a one-way First Class flight either to or from Doha:

  • Doha to London, Paris, or Zürich: 64,500 Avios
  • Doha to Sydney: 105,000 Avios
  • Doha to Bangkok: 75,000 Avios
  • Doha to Malé: 52,500 Avios

Using the Qatar Airways Qcalucator is merely just a guideline. Be sure to do a complete search for Qatar Airways First Class using Avios for the most accurate cost for your dates.

Since you can instantly transfer Avios between British Airways and Qatar Airways, be sure to compare the costs with both programs before booking. Simple, direct flights will cost the same between the two flavours of Avios, but any multi-segment bookings are better done using Qatar Airways Avios.

You can also consider booking Qatar Airways First Class as part of a multi-carrier award using British Airways Avios.

Luckily, Avios are relatively easy to come by. British Airways Avios is a transfer partner with American Express Membership Rewards , RBC Avion , and HSBC Rewards . Furthermore, these programs frequently offer transfer bonuses of 30 –50%.

British Airways Avios can also be earned directly with the RBC British Airways Visa Infinite .

American Airlines AAdvantage

Redeeming American Airlines AAdvantage miles is a great way to book Qatar Airways First Class.

In fact, the cheapest Qatar Airways First Class route you’ll be able to find with any loyalty program is by using American AAdvantage.

For example, Doha to Malé in Qatar Airways First Class can be booked for as few as 40,000 miles and a paltry $37.75 (USD) taxes and fees.

In addition, one-way tickets from Doha to Paris, London, or Zürich can be booked for as little as 62,500 AAdvantage miles and a very modest $37.75 (USD) taxes and fees.

Sydney to Doha can be booked for 100,000 miles and $66.25 (USD) taxes and fees in First Class, and Doha to Bangkok can be booked for just 50,000 miles a nd $39.15 (USD) taxes and fees in First Class.

The caveat is that aside from dabbling in US credit cards , AAdvantage miles are relatively difficult to come by.

American Airlines AAdvantage is a transfer partner with RBC Avion . Converting Avion points to AAdvantage miles comes at a less-than-ideal ratio of 1:0.7.

As a last resort, you can transfer Marriott Bonvoy points at the ideal ratio of 60,000:25,000.

Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan

Using Alaska miles is a slightly more expensive option, as flights from Doha to Paris will cost you 90,000 miles and $51 (USD) taxes and fees.

A First Class flight from Doha to Malé is also going to be a rather costly way to experience Qatar Airways 777 First Class, pricing out at 60,000 miles.

For a comparable amount of Alaska miles, you can experience a much longer First Class flight with Japan Airlines or Cathay Pacific. Therefore, it’s likely best to save your Alaska miles for one of those sweet spots instead, unless you’re dead-set on Qatar Airways.

Qatar Airways First Class Award Availability

As is usually the case with booking First Class flights, you’ll have the most success if you plan and book far in advance. This is especially true with Qatar Airways First Class, as the airline isn’t known to reliably release last-minute award availability.

Two seats tend to be released on many First Class routes well in advance of booking. Due to their flagship nature, the London and Paris routes tend to have less availability than the others.

Having two seats consistently available in First Class is relatively rare in the loyalty scene, as many airlines only release one (if any) at a time. Therefore, Qatar Airways is a great option for sharing the First Class experience with someone else.

Tips & Tricks for Qatar Airways First Class

If your main motivation for booking Qatar Airways First Class is to experience the Al Safwa First Class Lounge , you can do so by flying into Doha on any airline, and then flying onward with Qatar Airways “First Class” on short-haul regional routes within the Middle East.

This is a much cheaper option than flying on Qatar Airways’s true First Class routes, while still getting you a taste of the world-class ground experience.

For example, a First Class flight from Doha to Dubai, which clocks in at just over an hour, prices out at only 21,000 Avios.

When booking Qatar Airways First Class with American Airlines AAdvantage miles either to or from Doha, you can easily tack on another flight that may not even cost any additional miles.

For example, Qatar Airways First Class from Doha to Bangkok can be booked for 50,000 miles and $39.15 (USD) taxes and fees with American Airlines AAdvantage miles.

For the exact same price, you can fly on the same Doha to Bangkok flight with Qatar Airways in First Class, have a stopover in Bangkok, and then continue onward to Hong Kong at no extra cost.

As another example, flying from Montreal to Doha in business class costs 70,000 Qatar Airways Avios. But adding a further seven-hour flight in First Class to Bangkok only costs an incremental 25,000 Avios, for a total of 95,000 Avios.

The First Class cabin on Qatar Airways doesn’t have a huge lifespan remaining, so if you have the opportunity to try out the product, now may be the time to do so.

With access to the world-class lounge Al Safwa First Class Lounge , an onboard bar and lounge, and a chance to dine in the sky with a travel companion, Qatar Airways First Class is an experience to dream of – and for the lucky few who are able to book it on points, to look forward to.

Just to add to my previous comment, Mrs & I recently flew the A380 Doha to Perth in First. It was outstanding. For those who think the QSuite is ‘as good as First’ – let me assure you that it is chalk and cheese in every respect. OK, First doesn’t have a door….deary me! There are only 8 of you in the cabin so its not exactly busy. 2 Flight Crew to serve you (and there was just one other couple on our flight, so one crew member per couple). Good food and fabulous champagne which I saw in my local wine store at £280 a bottle ($350). The seat is huge and transforms into a very decent bed. On our flight, they made up the 4 empty seats into our personal beds! Doha lounge is humongous and a bit echo-y. But to repeat – First class is streets ahead of business class.

There is also a 380 route from Doha to Perth.

Qatar Airways is known for its decadent business class; but what of its highest tier of luxury?

When done right, traveling can be the most glamorous of affairs, and nobody knows this better than Qatar Airways . A weighted name within the wider luxury travel industry, Qatar Airways is often ranked as one of the best aviation experiences across the world, and its First Class is one of the most esteemed.

With even the Economy seats providing ample legroom, complimentary travel kits, and generous food and drink offerings throughout the journey, Qatar Airways First Class was always going to emerge a head above the competition in the pursuit of the ultimate luxury flying experience.

So what can we expect from the lounge? A step up from the renowned business class ‘Qsuite’ –  already quite the extraordinary affair of luxury travel, setting the industry’s standard –   Qatar Airways First Class is so exclusive it is only available on a selection of the airline’s airplanes.

Promising “unparalleled comfort” and “complete privacy”, Qatar Airways was presented with a challenge when constructing its highest tier of luxury: how to improve on the Qsuite, first launched in 2017, which already boasted details and amenities that other airlines would only service within their own first class? Elite Traveler has researched all you need to know about Qatar Airways First Class.

Airport Lounges

Let’s start with the beginning of the journey; the Qatar Airways Al Safwa First Class Lounge. The space, which is located in the airline’s home of Doha International Airport, at times feels more like a state-of-the-art museum.

This isn’t necessarily coincidental: the architects drew inspiration from Doha’s Museum of Islamic Art, reflected in the marble and sandstone detailing. Further highlighting the relationship with the city’s finest gallery and the airline is a collection of Islamic fine art installations and artefacts, which are on loan.

The lounge, universally considered one of the best internationally for luxury treatment and service, has a lot to offer. Perhaps too much, if you’d like to sample absolutely everything within the two or so hours spent in pre-departure. From a luxury spa to a cinema room, hot tubs to a full business center, the lounge is not only one of the finest across the world, but perhaps the most exclusive: typically, only first class passengers can get in. Otherwise, you must be flying business class and willing to fork out $165 (600 QAR) for a six-hour pass.

W New York – Times Square: “We Do Things Differently”

Whilst Qatar Airways First Class features will differ somewhat between the models of airplanes used – in this case, the double-decker A380 and the smaller 777 – the benefits and overall experience maintain the same standard of dedicated excellence.

Prioritizing privacy and uncompromising in their commitment to comfort, the First Class cabin is designed with all needs in mind, whether that be a good night’s sleep or a functioning workspace. Gorgeously designed with themes of Qatar’s signature burgundy contrasting against light grey, Qatar Airways sidelines the glitz and gold favored by competing Middle Eastern aircraft for a visual experience that feels both modern and embracing.

With the A380, First Class is located in front of the upper deck, with the seats arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration. With the 777, however, the six seats available are organized in a 1-1-1 position, with the most private seats situated in the ‘A’ aisle; these are granted a divider to separate the seats from the rest of the cabin.

Amenities provided by Qatar Airways feature complimentary gifts that include The White Company pajamas and slippers, and the recent edition of an amenity kit partnership with French perfumer Diptyque.

Food and Drink

Perhaps the most fabulous aspect of the Qatar Airways luxury experience is the bar, which oozes effortless elegance and intrinsic attention to detail. Open to both first class and business class passengers, the bar is lauded by travelers as being the best in the business. Located towards the back of the A380’s upper deck, it is a wonderful space that is awe-inspiring in scope.

And the food and beverages served meet the standard set by the First Class bar. Offering a plethora of options catering for a spectrum of dietary requirements, the quality of the a la carte menu refuses to disappoint, for a gastronomic experience that feels more akin to a Michelin star restaurant than a long-haul flight.

Review: Qatar Airways A350-1000 Business Class, Doha to LAX

' src=

On this trip, I was flying from the Maldives to Los Angeles, with a one-day layover in Doha. I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Doha Airport for the night and made my way back to the airport the next day. Traveler tip: Uber works in Qatar but it is no longer allowed to pick up from Doha International Airport. You can still use Uber to get around town and to get to the airport but from the airport, you will have to take a taxi (or use public transportation).

Qatar Airways Business Class Ground Services

On the morning of my flight, I arrived at the airport at approximately 5:00 AM for my 8:05 AM flight. The business class check-in desk was completely empty and I had my boarding pass within a few minutes of arriving. For business/first-class passengers, Qatar Airways provides a dedicated check-in area and a separate security and immigration queue for expedited service.

qatar airways classes of travel

At Doha International Airport, Qatar Airways operates two different lounges for their business class passengers to use. There’s the Al Mourjan Lounge South, which is the main lounge, and the Al Mourjan Garden Lounge, which is the new lounge located in the north expansion area. Both lounges are amazing and beautiful works of art and you will be fine visiting either lounge. The Al Mourjan South is the larger of the two but the Al Mourjan Garden Lounge has spa services and views of the new Orchard Garden.

Philippine Airlines Announces Seattle Start Date

Keep in mind that if you are departing on a flight bound for the United States, there will be a secondary security screening at your gate. This is one of my biggest complaints about coming home and Qatar doesn’t really facilitate this process very well. You will have to put all your bags through a security screener and you won’t be allowed to carry any liquids or water bottles over three ounces through to your gate. You will then be kept in a sterile waiting area with no bathrooms or water fountains until your flight.

qatar airways classes of travel

My recommendation is that you use the bathroom and hydrate first before going through the secondary screening process. It might take economy class passengers about 15 minutes to get through but for business/first class passengers, there’s a dedicated lane to expedite you through. I made it through in under five minutes and then waited for boarding to be called. Boarding was delayed about 30 minutes and started with business class passengers and passengers needing special assistance, followed by zone 1 (oneworld and Privilege Club elite members).

Qatar Airways A350-1000 Business Class

Flight: QR 739 Aircraft: Airbus A350-1000 Doha (DOH) to Los Angeles (LAX) Depart: 8:05 AM on Thursday (8:32 AM actual) Arrive: 1:15 PM same day (1:11 PM actual) Duration: 15hrs 39mns Seat: 9K Q-Suites Business Class

This flight was operated with a 4-year-old Airbus A350-1000 (registration A7-ANI). On this aircraft, there are two business class cabins with 46 Q-Suites business class seats, alternating between forward-facing and rear-facing seats. The seats are configured in a 1-2-1 layout with 36 seats in the forward class cabin and eight seats in the rear business class cabin.

qatar airways classes of travel

The cabin is beautiful and the seats are spacious and comfortable. On paper, the seats only provide 21.5’’ of width but due to the open space next to the seats, they actually provide unrestricted shoulder room for both sitting and sleeping. When reclined, the seats turn into a fully flat bed that is 79’’ long.

qatar airways classes of travel

These Q-Suites business class seats are equipped with 21.5’’ HD television monitors, USB and universal electrical outlets, personal reading lamps, air vents, and plenty of storage spaces. These seats also feature privacy doors and a partition height of 48.5 inches. When you’re seated in your suite with the doors closed, you won’t really notice anything going on outside your seat.

qatar airways classes of travel

Storage-wise, these seats offer plenty of storage spaces. The primary storage compartment will be located next to your seat. This compartment also acts as your armrest and can be raised or lowered, depending if you’re seated or sleeping.

qatar airways classes of travel

In front of you, there is a large side table to place your items, and below the side table is a cutout to store additional items such as laptops, iPads, or headphones.

qatar airways classes of travel

And down below the console is a little cutout for your shoes.

qatar airways classes of travel

Entertainment-wise, Qatar offers one of the best collections of entertainment in the sky. They have a huge catalog of movies, TV shows, music, and games and you won’t have a hard time finding a few movies to help pass the time. WiFi was also provided on this flight and it was very affordable. An hour of free internet was provided for all Privilege Club members and a full-flight pass only cost $10.

qatar airways classes of travel

On this flight, I was seated in seat 9K, a rear-facing, window seat in the forward business class cabin.   Waiting at our seats were two pillows, a very plush duvet, and a Diptique branded amenity kit. Qatar-branded noise-canceling headphones and a water bottle were also provided in the storage compartment.

qatar airways classes of travel

The Diptique branded amenity kits are super cute and are stocked with quality Diptique products. In addition to in-flight socks, eye masks, and ear plugs, there are small bottles of body lotion, face cream, lip balm, and a body spray. These are quality products that smell good and I can definitely see myself reusing this bag to keep cords, medication, or other travel necessities.

qatar airways classes of travel

As we got settled in our seats, the cabin manager came by to introduce herself and the other flight attendants came by with pre-departure beverages, menus, and pajamas.

qatar airways classes of travel

My pre-departure beverage (signature mint and lime juice) was presented with a Diptique wet towel. The pajamas, provided by the White Company, were soft and comfortable.

qatar airways classes of travel

With boarding completed and bags finally loaded, we then pushed back from the gate and taxied to the runway for our nearly 16-hour flight to Los Angeles.

qatar airways classes of travel

About 20 minutes into the flight, the seatbelt signs were turned off and the flight attendant came around for food and beverage orders. Keep in mind that Qatar has dine-on-demand so you can order anything from the menu at any time you want. For my flight, I decided to have my breakfast first and save my dinner for later on in the flight.

qatar airways classes of travel

My breakfast started with a glass of champagne and a ramekin of warm nuts.

qatar airways classes of travel

For breakfast, I went with the raspberry and hazelnut scroll and it was delicious. I had a real breakfast earlier in the lounge so this was a nice treat to enjoy. It was served with a small bread basket and a fruit smoothie.

qatar airways classes of travel

After I was done eating, my table was immediately cleared and I went into the lavatory to change out of my street clothes. There are three lavatories for business class passengers to use. Two are located in the front of the plane and one is located in between the two business class cabins. The lavatories were stocked with Diptique bottles of lotion, hydrating facial spray and dental/shave kits.

qatar airways classes of travel

I then went back to my seat and settled in for a couple of movies and some work on my laptop. About six hours into the flight, I rang the call bell and asked for a mid-flight snack. I went with the chicken tiki masala, a fruit plate, and a glass of champagne. The tiki masala was delicious and I wished it was offered in a bigger portion.

qatar airways classes of travel

After my snack, the flight attendant asked if I wanted my bed to be made. I wasn’t all that tired yet but I decided I could just watch a movie in bed. The turndown service included a mattress pad and a different pillow. He exchanged my back pillow for a proper bed pillow. This level of detail is what sets Qatar Airways apart from the competition. Naturally, the bed was spacious and comfortable and I was able to snooze for a bit.

qatar airways classes of travel

I have to give Qatar Airways credit here. Their service and catering on this flight were stellar. Everything I ate was delicious and I wished I could have had more. And their service was friendly, personable, and attentive. The flight attendant taking care of my aisle was on top of his game. He walked the cabin frequently and proactively asked if I needed anything.

qatar airways classes of travel

About two hours before landing, the cabin lights slowly came on and my dinner was served. Dinner started with a salmon sashimi starter and a bread basket.

qatar airways classes of travel

For my main dish, I went with the salmon with lemon sauce and mashed potatoes. I did ask for the soup but they were all out it by the time I asked. I guess that’s the one downside of dine-on-demand. Because anyone can eat anything they want at any time, they may be out of what you want by the time you want it. But in the overall scheme of things, there is so much food and you won’t go hungry.

Qatar Airways A350-1000 Business Class Bottom Line

This was my first long-haul, Q-Suites flight with Qatar Airways and I can honestly say I was very impressed. The hard product was amazing and the service and catering on this flight were top-notch. The food was delicious, the service was personable and the seat was great in both seat and bed modes. I think Qatar Airways offers a stellar business-class product and I wouldn’t hesitate to fly with them again in the future.

Simple Flying

How to earn avios with qatar airways privilege club.

Earning Avios from flights is still distance-based, plus there are other ways to earn.

  • Privilege Club allows earning Avios from various sources like flights and credit cards.
  • Avios can be earned on partner airlines within oneworld alliance and other brands as well.
  • Earnings are based on flight class and distance, with bonus rates for elite members.

Privilege Club is the loyalty program of Qatar Airways. It allows travelers to collect Avios from flights with Qatar Airways and many other airlines, as well as several other sources (including through credit cards). Frequent travelers can also earn elite status in the program, bringing benefits across the one world alliance.

Avios is a shared loyalty currency with other airlines - currently including British Airways, Iberia, and Finnair. Avios can be transferred between the different loyalty programs, making it increasingly useful.

Earning Avios on Qatar Airways flights

As with all airline loyalty programs, earning from flying is the most obvious source. In Privilege Club, Avios are earned on all Qatar Airways flights based on the flight distance. Many other loyalty programs (including fellow Avios-based programs from British Airways and Iberia) have changed to a revenue-based earning system. Under such a system, Avios are awarded based on the price of the ticket, which is generally considered less lucrative except for the higher premium cabin spenders.

Read more about the British Airways Executive Club and Avios earning in our guide

Avios are awarded based on the ticket's booking class (or fare code) and flight distance. For each booking class, there is a percentage multiplier of the flight distance. This ranges from 25% of the distance flown for the lowest Lite (W) booking class up to 300% of the distance flown for all first class tickets (in F or A class).

The full Avios earning table is as follows:

There is a useful calculator tool on the Privilege Club website that will show the Avios to be earned for any flight.

Elite members also earn a bonus on top of these base earnings as follows:

  • Silver: 25% bonus
  • Gold: 75% bonus
  • Platinum: 100% bonus

Love learning about points and miles? Read more of our loyalty news and guides here .

Earning Avios on partner airline flights

Qatar Airways is a member of the one world alliance . As such, you can earn (and redeem) Avios on flights with all oneworld airlines. These are:

  • Alaska Airlines
  • American Airlines
  • British Airways
  • Cathay Pacific
  • Iberia (including Iberia Express and Air Nostrum)
  • Japan Airlines
  • Malaysia Airlines
  • Royal Air Maroc
  • Royal Jordanian Airlines
  • SriLankan Airlines

Privilege Club also has partnerships with several airlines not in the one world alliance. Avios can be earned on flights with the following airlines:

  • Bangkok Airways
  • Middle East Airlines
  • Virgin Australia

With all these partner airlines, Avios are earned based on the booking class and distance flown (the same way that they are earned with Qatar Airways). Privilege Club publishes tables for earning rates/percentages for each airline, but rates are similar to those for Qatar Airways flights.

Qatar Airways Partners: Where You Can Earn Avios In 2024

For example, for British Airways, the rates are as follows:

Rates for any route can be checked using the Privilege Club calculator tool. This will show each booking class and the total earnings. The two calculator examples below show the earnings (as of March 2024) for British Airways flights from London Heathrow to New York JFK and for American Airlines between New York and Los Angeles.

Earn Avios from credit card spending

Earning points from credit cards has become increasingly common with many airlines. With some airlines, you can now earn elite status just from spending on credit cards.

Privilege Club partners with several banks to offer credit cards that earn Avios. All banks are regionally based (mostly in Qatar or Kuwait). Some may allow applicants from other countries, but no US, UK, or European-based providers partner with Privilege Club. Transferring points from other credit card schemes is a good option for members based in other countries. Privilege Club is a transfer partner for American Express Membership Rewards and Citi ThankYou Points (both transferring at a 1:1 ratio).

The co-branded cards will usually award Avios at a rate equivalent to around one Avios per US Dollar (although some offer less). There are also bonuses for spending in some categories and higher rates for international spending with some cards.

Available cards include:

  • Burghan Bank Qatar Airways cards (in Kuwait)
  • Doha Bank Qatar Airways Privilege Club Credit Card
  • Dukhan Bank Mastercard
  • IndusInd Bank Avios Visa Infintie Credit card
  • QNB Qatar Airways co-branded credit card
  • QIB Qatar Airways co-branded credit card
  • National Bank of Kuwait Avios Visa Signature card
  • Masraf Al Rayan Qatar Airways co-branded credit card

Other ways to earn Avios

Flying and credit card spending are likely to be the main earning methods for most people. But, as with most other loyalty programs, there are several other useful ways to boost earnings.

Earn from hotel stays. Some hotel chains offer Avios earnings directly. These include:

  • Hyatt Hotels (500 points per stay with several brands)
  • Marriott Bonvoy (two Avios per USD spent)
  • Shangri-La Hotels (500 Avios per stay)

There is also the option to transfer points into Privilege Club once earned in several hotel loyalty programs. It is usually better value to keep these points in the hotel program, but it remains an option to transfer. Programs include :

  • Hilton Honors (with 10,000 points transferring to 1,000 Avios)
  • ALL-Accor Live Limitless (with 2,000 points transferring to 1,000 Avios)
  • Shangri-La Hotels (with one point transferring to one Avios)
  • World of Hyatt (with 2.5 points transferring to one Avios)

Car hire. You can earn 500 Avios for rentals with Sixt, Hertz, and Europcar. Rentals with Avis and Budget earn based on the total amount spent. Base Burgundy members of Privilege Club earn two Avios per USD spent. Silver, Gold, and Platinum members earn one, two, and three bonus Avios.

What Classes Of Travel Does Qatar Airways Offer?

Qatar Airways Baggage Allowance Everything You Need To Know - Travel News, Insights & Resources.

  • Qatar Airways offers a range of seating options including economy class, business class, and first class on different types of aircraft.
  • Economy class provides standard seat widths and pitches, with better meals and service on long-haul flights.
  • Qatar Airways excels in business class with various types of seating arrangements, including the highly acclaimed QSuite. However, the airline does not offer a premium economy class.

Qatar Airways is one of the largest airlines in the Middle East, with a fleet exceeding 250 aircraft. It offers three different classes of travel, with its business class product, QSuite, being among the best in the market. Here’s a look at what the airline has to offer in each cabin.

Economy class on Qatar Airways

Like many airlines, Qatar Airways offers different seating products on its regional and long-haul flights. Economy class, though, is a similar offering on most of its aircraft. Meals and service will, of course, be better on long-haul flights.

The standard seat width in economy class varies between 17.5 inches and 18.5 inches (highest on the Airbus A380), and the standard seat pitch is 31 inches for all aircraft.

5 Tips To Make The Most Of Qatar Airways Economy Class

What does the world’s second-best economy class have to offer?

If you want a bit of extra space, you will find fellow Middle Eastern airline Emirates offers more than this, with at least 32 inches on its widebody aircraft. You will get about the same with European airlines, albeit less in regional configurations. Unlike other airlines, however, Qatar Airways has seatback screens even on its Airbus narrowbodies.

Business class on Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways excels in business class, with a good and consistent offering on long-haul flights. There are three main types of business class products, depending on the route and aircraft:

Regional business class: is offered on Qatar’s narrowbody Airbus fleet for short and medium-haul flights, usually within the Middle East. This is arranged in a 2-2 configuration, compared with 3-3 in economy class, with each seat offering a 45-inch pitch (compared to 31 inches in economy).

Medium-haul business class: As Qatar Airways expands its reach globally, it has fitted select narrowbody aircraft with lie-flat seats. You’ll find 12 seats in a 2-2 configuration with 79″ of space as a bed, providing more than enough room to sleep on longer flights. Currently available on nine A320-200s across the fleet, this plane is extensively deployed to destinations in South Asia and Africa.

‘Traditional’ long-haul business class: This is offered on all Airbus and Boeing widebody aircraft that do not feature the carrier’s famed QSuites. Business class is offered in a 1-2-1 configuration with non-enclosed seats, all with direct aisle access, and the seat pitch/bed length is 80 inches. This cabin is found on Qatar’s Airbus A380s, A330s, and older Boeing 777s and 787s.

QSuite business class . In 2017, Qatar Airways launched an entirely new business class product. Known as QSuite, this is one of the best business class products in the sky today. Each seat offers aisle access, a fixed table, and, as ‘suite’ suggests, a privacy door. Excitingly, the center suites can be opened up to make groups of two or four suites, perfect for families or business meetings.

5 Things You Might Not Know About The Iconic Qsuite From Qatar Airways

The airline offers quad-suites for work or socialization among travel groups.

QSuites are currently offered on all Qatar Airways A350-1000s and select A350-900s, Boeing 777-200LRs, and 777-300ERs. Aircraft and routes offering it continue to grow, and you can check aircraft types and seat maps when booking flights. Simple Flying reporters have taken trips on the A350 in QSuite between San Francisco and Doha and between Los Angeles and Doha .

Boeing 787-9 Business Class Suite: With the Dreamliner, Qatar Airways was unable to fit the original QSuite in a 1-2-1 layout. To tackle this, it created a modified business class suite, not as decked-out as QSuite but still featuring a door and much of the decor. With 30 seats across eight rows, you can find the cabin on any of Qatar’s 14 (and growing) fleet of 787-9s.

First class on Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways only offers first class on the Airbus A380. When this stopped flying during the pandemic, it was unclear whether the airline would ever offer it again. However, with the A380 back in service, first class is, of course, available once more.

Qatar Airways First Class: What To Expect On Board

Is the airline’s first class better than its famed Qsuite?

First class on the A380 offers eight private suites in a separate cabin at the front of the upper deck. Each suite has a width of 23 inches and a bed length of 83 inches. It should be noted that, while Qatar sells ‘first class’ tickets within the Middle East, these are just the usual A320 business class recliners, although you do get access to the popular Al Safwa First Class Lounge in Doha as well.

However, Qatar Airways has confirmed that its future long-haul fleet will not be equipped with first class seats, with former CEO Al Baker saying the carrier’s premium future lies with the QSuite. Qatar will be a future operator of the Boeing 777X, having placed a firm order for 50 777-9s, but it won’t be flying the type until 2025 at the earliest.

There is a lot of discussion about the reduction of first class in the industry. As just one significant example, American Airlines was the last US airline to offer a separate long-haul first class cabin, and it confirmed the withdrawal of this in late 2022. Several airlines have removed the cabin entirely in recent years, and others have reduced its availability.

Qatar Airways and premium economy class

Despite this cabin being the subject of a growing trend, Qatar Airways does not offer premium economy, and looks unlikely to do so any time soon. The fourth cabin is increasingly popular, with many airlines in Europe, Asia, and the Americas introducing it on long-haul routes.

It is also popular in Asia on shorter routes, where full-service business class is not necessary (although it may be offered). Even Emirates bit the bullet right before COVID and announced its premium economy cabin, which it eventually put on sale in a full-scale manner in 2022.

Despite the changing winds in the industry toward more premium travel, the carrier isn’t looking to budge from its stance. Speaking to Simple Flying in 2021, former Qatar Airways Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker, said:

“I’m not going for premium economy. Qatar Airways provides passage at reasonable prices to my passengers, giving them equal, or even higher comfort than the premium economy.”

Have you flown with Qatar Airways recently, or are you planning a trip? What do you think of its seat products and service offerings? Feel free to discuss and compare with other airlines in the comments.

Compliance status

We firmly believe that the internet should be available and accessible to anyone, and are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of circumstance and ability.

To fulfill this, we aim to adhere as strictly as possible to the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1) at the AA level. These guidelines explain how to make web content accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities. Complying with those guidelines helps us ensure that the website is accessible to all people: blind people, people with motor impairments, visual impairment, cognitive disabilities, and more.

This website utilizes various technologies that are meant to make it as accessible as possible at all times. We utilize an accessibility interface that allows persons with specific disabilities to adjust the website’s UI (user interface) and design it to their personal needs.

Additionally, the website utilizes an AI-based application that runs in the background and optimizes its accessibility level constantly. This application remediates the website’s HTML, adapts Its functionality and behavior for screen-readers used by the blind users, and for keyboard functions used by individuals with motor impairments.

If you’ve found a malfunction or have ideas for improvement, we’ll be happy to hear from you. You can reach out to the website’s operators by using the following email

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation

Our website implements the ARIA attributes (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) technique, alongside various different behavioral changes, to ensure blind users visiting with screen-readers are able to read, comprehend, and enjoy the website’s functions. As soon as a user with a screen-reader enters your site, they immediately receive a prompt to enter the Screen-Reader Profile so they can browse and operate your site effectively. Here’s how our website covers some of the most important screen-reader requirements, alongside console screenshots of code examples:

Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website.

These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.

Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside it.

Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
  • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

  • Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
  • Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over seven different coloring options.
  • Animations – person with epilepsy can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
  • Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
  • Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
  • Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
  • Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

Browser and assistive technology compatibility

We aim to support the widest array of browsers and assistive technologies as possible, so our users can choose the best fitting tools for them, with as few limitations as possible. Therefore, we have worked very hard to be able to support all major systems that comprise over 95% of the user market share including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera and Microsoft Edge, JAWS and NVDA (screen readers).

Notes, comments, and feedback

Despite our very best efforts to allow anybody to adjust the website to their needs. There may still be pages or sections that are not fully accessible, are in the process of becoming accessible, or are lacking an adequate technological solution to make them accessible. Still, we are continually improving our accessibility, adding, updating and improving its options and features, and developing and adopting new technologies. All this is meant to reach the optimal level of accessibility, following technological advancements. For any assistance, please reach out to

Revealing Qatar A380’s Luxurious Business Class: Qatar Airways Review

Qatar Airways' A380 upper deck First Class and Business Class Lounge | Photo ©️ travellifebalance.com

Known for an elevated travel experience with exquisite lounges and five-star service, Qatar Airways Business Class is unquestionably a premium travel product. But is it worth the extra money to upgrade your flight experience with the airline? Find out what you need to know in this unbiased, unsponsored Qatar Airways Review.

With so many options out there in this hectic travel world, let’s take an inside look at whether the Qatar Airways product offers good value, and is their premium Business Class product worth the hype?

Let’s walk through the full A380 Business Class experience, including pre-boarding, onboard service and arrival in Doha, Qatar.

Table of Contents

Comparing International Business Class Flights

I’ve personally flown nearly every mainline airline’s International Business Class product, so I am coming from a position of solid experience with these products. I’ve taken over 100 Ultra long-haul flights, with many between 11 and 17 hours or more such as the 17-hour San Fransico to Singapore flights, so I have a lot to compare against.

My experiences with Qatar Airways have mostly been on Boeing 777 aircraft flying to and from Doha by way of places such as Montreal, Dallas, Los Angeles, and in this case London and Frankfurt on the A380 Double Decker aircraft.

Qatar Airways History

With some airlines aging over 100 years old such as Amsterdam-based KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Qatar Airways is a relative newcomer to the aviation world but as quickly as the country of Qatar has exploded with growth, so has the airline. The airline has one of the youngest fleet of planes averaging 5 years.

As its name implies, Qatar Airways is the flag carrier airline of the tiny, ultra-wealthy nation of Qatar. The company operates out of its home base at Doha’s Hamad International Airport and flies to 6 continents and some 90 countries.

Pre-Boarding Experience

My Qatar Airways experience for this trip began at London Heathrow Airport shortly after an 8-hour flight from Canada. As such, I did not have to deal with any customer service for check-in or baggage on this leg.

On the return flight, I was impressed with the spacious check-in lounge at Doha’s Hamad International Airport. The process of bag-check and exclusive Business Class security was ultra smooth and efficient.

Qatar Airways London Heathrow Premium Lounge

I made my way over to London Heathrow’s Terminal 4 and to Qatar’s Premium Lounge. Qatar refers to their service experience as ‘understated but attentive five-star service’. Scerece spaces, with Arabic and Islamic detailing, make the space like a luxurious club or spa.

Holland’s Largest Castle – Utrecht’s Incredible de Haar Castle (Kasteel de Haar)

Luxury showers with heated floors are available for connecting passengers, a really lovely way to refresh after an already 8-hours of flying to London.

I didn’t have much time between flights but a quick made-to-order burger was just what I needed. The food was hot and fresh and served with fries and delicious coleslaw on the side.

Plane Configuration and Boarding on the A380 Upper Deck

Qatar Airways offered a 3-class service on this A380. Business Class is located in the centre section of the upper deck, with four abreast seating in a herringbone 1-2-1 pattern. You load directly onto the second floor with no stairs to climb onboard like on a previous Lufthansa 747-800 Flight I took to South Africa.

Unfortunately, the innovative Q-Suite Seating was not available on this flight, however, the fully lie-flat seat was very comfortable.

On-board Amenities Provided

My only disappointment on this flight was the White Company London sleepwear was not available on this flight. I have to confess that I never wear the PJs inflight, but they do make a nice gift for my family.

A very nice hard-shelled Bric’s Amenity kit was provided with all of the standard amenities such as a toothbrush, lip-blam, refreshing facial mist (which I love), lotions, socks and earplugs

Qatar Airways Inflight Entertainment and Connectivity

The aircraft was equipped with its Oryx One in-flight entertainment system, featuring a full complement of movies, Binge-worthy TV programming and music channels. I’ve especially found the TV programming to be very good on all of my Qatar Airways flights.

Connectivity on the Airbus A380 included Wifi, SMS/MMS and email capability.

A Completely Different Take-Off Experience

The feel of flying on the upper deck of the huge Airbus A380 is like nothing else. Every time I fly on one, I am amazed at how this 560-ton machine can physically leave the ground, and with such grace. The amount of power you experience, when they engage the engines to take off power is extraordinary.

Dine on Demand Experience – Eating on Your Schedule

A major part of the onboard experience in Business Class is dining. Qatar consistently excelled in the six ultra long-haul business class flights that I took with them, including this round trip from London-Doha-Frankfurt.

Once the seatbelt sign went off at ten thousand feet, the flight crew was noticeably calm — without the typical frenetic rush and scrambling to prepare drink carts.

My Flight Attendant promptly came to my seat after take-off and took my drink order restaurant style. For dining, there was no fixed meal time, I simply rang the call button to request meal service at my leisure. Service started with a delightful table setup including an LED candle and Arabic-inspired dishes that set a luxurious ambiance for my meal.

Can You Drink on Qatar Airways?

Yes, most definitely. Although Qatar is a Muslim country and the airline is wholly owned and operated by the Qatari government, the airline freely serves alcohol inflight.

Lounging in the Stunning A380 Upper Deck Bar

The midship bar and lounge on the Qatar A380 was staffed for nearly the whole flight and offered premium cocktails and a selection of Laurent-Perrier Champagne. I especially enjoyed the Brut Rosé, while spreading out on the luxury lounge seating and listening to a bit of Spotify.

The bar was quiet in both directions, and I was able to enjoy a peaceful drink and some reading time away from fellow passengers. Bar snacks were served, and when I was really hungry I returned for the dine-on-demand service at my seat.

Arrival at Doha’s Hamad International Airport in Qatar

Arriving at Doha’s Hamad International Airport offered incredible views of the city as we circled the man-made Pearl Islands and around Doha’s incredible, modern skyline.

Upon arrival, Qatar Airlines Business and First passengers have exclusive access to the Qatar Airways Customs Lounge, offering luxury seating areas, cappuccino, teas and private customs officers to greet you.

I have found that Qatar Airways delivers consistently good value and a very premium Business class experience from end to end at a price similar to, or sometimes even less expensive than other airlines. My experiences with Qatar Airways have always been top-notch.

I’ve flown a number of times since and this flight stands out as one of my all-time favourites, partially due to the unique experience of the lounge on the aircraft. Sadly, Qatar has said it will be phasing out its A380s in favour of the new fuel-efficient A350s.

I would compare Qatar Airlines Business Class most closely with Singapore Airlines’ product. It is a step up and far superior to that of United Airlines, Air Canada, Lufthansa and KLM, which I typically fly.

FAQ for Qatar Airlines Business Class Review

Can you order your meal ahead of your flight.

You have the option to select your dining options before you board via the official airline’s website once you have a confirmed reservation number.

How many meals does Qatar Airways serve on a long-haul flight?

Usually, two meals are served, a dinner or lunch service and a pre-arrival meal. The timing may be at your leisure if the flight has a dine-on-demand service.

What is the Qatar Airlines Privilege Club loyalty programme?

Qatar Airlines is a member of OneWorld with OneWorld members including British Airways, American Airways,  Qantas, and Japan Airways to name a few.

Privilege Club is Qatar’s own branded loyalty programme, part of OneWorld. They offer Avios, similar to British Airways that can be used for upgrades, flight purchases and other flight amenities.

What makes qatar’s hamad airport the world’s best for shopping.

A second Dior boutique has just opened at Hamad International, with a Dior Spa coming in May.

Qatar’s Hamad International Airport has, for the second consecutive year, been voted the world’s best airport for shopping at the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2024 which took place last week. The accolade is an affirmation of a determination at the Qatar Airways hub to create a world-class retail destination ever since its inception in April 2014.

The airport, which handled a record 45.9 million passengers in 2023, also retook the more prestigious title of ‘World’s Best Airport’ at the awards, considered the most influential in the airport industry. The Doha-located hub wrested that crown from the much-admired Singapore Changi Airport.

Both Hamad International and the southeast Asian rival have been in a tussle for the top spot in recent years, but the Qatari’s have had their foot hard on the pedal during and post-pandemic. Earlier this year, Qatar Airways Group CEO, Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, said: “We’re not simply moving people, we’re shaping the future of travel. Our achievements are a reflection of our unwavering commitment to service excellence. First-class shopping is an important element in our overall proposition.”

At some locations, such comments may be considered just rhetoric, but Hamad International has the proof of its commitment in the speed of its passenger recovery post-Covid—and the scale of the shopping offer that’s been implemented by Qatar Duty Free (QDF), the airport’s wholly-owned retail operator.

Last year, passenger numbers grew by more than 30% year-over-year, despite a tough comparison with 2022 when the airport hosted the FIFA World Cup, the first time it was held in an Arab country. Retail also had a record year and in January, I estimated that QDF had broken through the $1 billion barrier in annual retail sales.

Huawei s Pura 70 Ultra Beats iPhone With Pioneering New Feature

Sh gun episode 10 review a powerful finale but not what i was expecting, the trump media stock price (djt) is about to adjust down by -22.7%, incremental retail wins.

The company won’t stop there. Since the time of the FIFA World Cup, careful planning has ensured incremental wins. Just before the tournament began, the airport opened a new extension of its terminal filled with greenery—25,000 plants and over 300 trees—and new luxury stores from the likes of Burberry, Dior, Fendi, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Moncler, and Polo Ralph Lauren RL .

Tradition in transit: Souq Al Matar at Hamad International Airport.

Shopping services and further brand arrivals have been stepped up again and again. In 2023, QDF claims to have been responsible for “numerous world-first openings”, adding to a footprint of more than 200 retail and dining outlets. Among the arrivals were new concepts from Bally, Montblanc, and Tag Heuer, plus Souq Al Matar , a retail and dining experience that re-imagines a traditional Qatari souq.

The space, opened in December, features seven local shops and two restaurants. The souq is an example of what QDF calls a ‘transit tourism’ concept at the airport. The company believes it takes the term ‘sense of place’—an often overworked phrase in duty-free—to the next level. Authenticity in the architectural design helps to remind travelers about the styles, scents, and flavors of Qatar.

QDF's Tab Musleh: “With a raft of new openings and innovations in the works we will continue to find ... [+] new ways of differentiating our offer.”

Dining at the airport ranges from food courts and novelty coffee shops like Ralph’s Coffee, and the world’s first Oreo Café in an airport to vegan restaurants and celebrity eateries like Gordon Ramsay Burger. There is an ‘essentials’ store called Day2Day for travelers on a budget while luxury watch lovers can visit the first TimeVallée in the Middle East, or Fendi’s eye-catching double-floor boutique.

A second Dior store also opened in April, with a Dior Spa set to be unveiled in May. Qatar Duty Free senior vice president, Tab Musleh, commented: “Being ranked by travelers as the world’s best airport for shopping validates our vision. Pioneering approaches such as ‘transit tourism’ have made our home a destination in its own right. With a raft of new openings and innovations in the works we will continue to find new ways of differentiating our offer.”

That differential has made the airport a Skytrax winner as Qatar Airways Group CEO knows. He made a point that brands and retailers could do well to follow: “There is no finish line in the pursuit of offering exceptional travel experiences. Our goal is to continuously refine journeys in 2024 to match the ever-growing expectations of our discerning passengers.”

6 Cheapest Business Class Airlines for an Affordable Upgrade

W ith the ever-shrinking seats in coach class, the allure of those spacious front-of-plane cabins has never been stronger. Flying business class can feel reminiscent of the golden era of travel, when glamour and comfort ruled the skies. Perks like lie-flat beds, privacy doors that encapsulate seats, airport lounge access, and even chauffeur services can entice even the most austere travelers among us to contemplate splurging on an upgrade every now and then.

Of course, those amenities all come at a price. Business class fares can be prohibitively expensive for the average traveler, with one-way tickets soaring as high as several thousands dollars. But did you know that the cheapest business class airlines offer many of the best perks for less money? If you know the right carriers, an affordable but luxurious business class ticket could be within reach. Here’s everything you need to know about the cheapest business class airlines .

What perks and amenities do the cheapest business class airlines give you?

On board a cheap business class airline that still offers good value, you can expect a spacious seat—one that lies flat on longer routes—better in-flight meals, complimentary alcohol, and reserved overhead bin space.

Other perks on the ground will vary from airline to airline. Some carriers “unbundle” their cheapest business class fares, meaning amenities like airport lounge access , seat selection, and over-the-top perks like chauffeur services aren’t offered to keep prices lower. Other airlines simply do not offer any customers amenities like lounges at all.

To get the cheapest business class fares, you’ll have to decide what perks are most important to you. Would you prefer to relax in a lounge during a long layover? Or is an affordable bed in the sky with fully closing doors of more importance? The airlines below all offer luxury, but the emphasis is put on different stages of the travel experience.

What prices are considered affordable for business class?

The price for that premium seat can get quite steep: Flights in top business class cabins can cost anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000. Like other airline tickets , the price of cheap business class fares can depend on the destination, time of year, when you book, and the airline itself. The longer the flight and the plusher the cabin, the higher the fare will climb.

However, according to recent data from aviation statistics firm Cirium , The average business class fare in 2023 was $1,845. So anything near or below that price point can be considered a pretty good deal for one-way in business class—keeping in mind the factors like the length of the flight and the amenities your ticket includes.

6 of the cheapest business class airlines

Tap air portugal.

Generally known as a budget carrier, TAP Air Portugal actually offers a solid—and affordable—business class product as well. According to Katy Nastro, travel expert at Going.com , TAP Air Portugal routinely prices its business class seats to Europe for less than $3,000 roundtrip—sometimes even slipping below $2,000 roundtrip. For that price, you’ll get lie-flat seats with bedding that includes wrap-around duvets and large pillows, as well as meal service that features Portuguese dishes and wines. The seats and finishes might not feel as plush as other business classes, but you’ll have space to stretch your legs and lie flat at an attainable price point.

Turkish Airlines

Offering a few more amenities but still cheaper rates in business is Turkish Airlines, a carrier that Nastro says also consistently offers seats in business class on flights to Turkey and other destinations in Europe for under $3,000 roundtrip. You’ll be well cared for in Turkish business class, which offers a lie-flat seat that’s more than six feet long and up to two feet wide, with an 18-inch entertainment screen. When it comes to dining, you’ll have access to the airline’s iconic flying chefs, who prepare a litany of Turkish dishes and other cuisines mid-flight and essentially transform the business class cabin into a flying, top-tier restaurant. Plus, business class passengers also have access to Turkish lounges when they arrive at the airport.

Emirates “Special” business class fares

In order to give customers access to the cheapest business class seats, Emirates unbundles its business class fares. If you book one of these tickets, called “Special" business class fares by the airline, you won’t have access to Emirates lounges , chauffeur service, seat selection, or upgrades to first class. But once onboard the plane, you get all those bells and whistles Emirates business class is known for: ultra-comfy beds, gourmet food, premium cocktails, and even the A380’s onboard cocktail lounge.

Using the unbundled booking method can potentially save travelers thousands of dollars. A quick check of business class fares on Emirates’ New York to Dubai route for June 2024 showed the airline’s Special business class price at $2,787 one-way, while its Flex Plus business class ticket, which offers the most perks and rebooking options, clocked in at $6,229—a difference of more than $3,400. The Special fares are only available on certain routes and certain times of year, so if you see one that works for you, it could be worth locking in.

This little-known German carrier flies from 13 major US gateways to Europe, and is one of the best cheapest business class airlines out there. Condor’s sharp-looking business class cabins with striped accents offer seats that transform into a 6.5-foot lie-flat bed, 4K entertainment screens, and direct-aisle access for every passenger. Plus, each business class passenger gets access to Condor’s lounges. Fares start at about $1,100 on flights from New York to Berlin.

Qatar Airways Business Class Lite

Much like Emirates’ unbundled tickets, Qatar Airways’ Business Class Lite and Business Class Classic fares offer the same opulent seats to fliers who’d like to shave off a few amenities in order to save money. You won’t have lounge access or seat selection before check-in included in your ticket. But you can book into the revered Qsuites product, which offers fully closing doors around a spacious lie-flat seat (79 inches long and 21 inches wide) and impeccable in-flight service. While the price tag can’t be considered “cheap” compared to some carriers, the unbundled fares can be a more affordable way to book one of the best seats in the sky. The unbundled fares aren’t offered on all routes, but a search of Qatar’s flights from New York to Doha for August 2024 shows Business Class Classic fares for $6,268, while Business Elite is $8,810—a difference of more than $2,500.

JetBlue Mint

Although it’s not offered on every plane or every route, JetBlue’s Mint business class is among the best premium products in terms of value for the money. Mint offers a mix of standard lie-flat seats and more private suites with doors, depending on the aircraft layout. Each seat offers adjustable firmness, a massage function, and turns into a bed that’s six feet, eight inches long outfitted with blankets and pillows from Tuft and Needle. You can also expect some seriously scrumptious food and drink options, as JetBlue has partnered with New York restaurant group Delicious Hospitality, the collective behind Manhattan restaurants Pasquale Jones, Charlie Bird, and Legacy Records, to design the rotating menus in Mint. One-way tickets start at about $700 and range up to $2,000 to fly between New York and Los Angeles, but expect to pay more on JetBlue’s international routes.

Time to Travel

The best time to visit Moscow is between April and May, when the temperature is getting warmer and the sun begins to shine for significant portions of the day (hotel rates are still very competitive around this time). Of course, the golden period is summer, when the city is warm and bustling, but expect to pay more during this time.

Flying from

Moscow is served by three large airports, and passengers flying from Moscow with Qatar Airways will depart from the largest airport in the country, Domodedovo International Airport. This huge air hub handles approximately 30 million passengers a year, and is an efficient and well-run airport. Current redevelopment of the airport will mean that once completed the entire airport will operate from a single, giant terminal with extremely modern systems including X-ray and enhanced security systems. The current airport offers a good selection of facilities as well as a very efficient service for passengers travelling to destinations across the globe. Transportation and parking The city’s Paveletsky Station is connected to the airport via the high-speed, non-stop Aeroexpress train. The journey time from the centre of Moscow to the airport using Aeroexpress is approximately 50 minutes and is the easiest way to travel from the centre of Moscow. A 24-hour minibus shuttle service operates between the Domodedovskaya underground station and the airport and takes approximately 15 minutes, while taxis are plentiful and take around 90 minutes from the centre of the city. It is strongly advised, though, to ensure that you use official taxis, and travellers should ask their hotel concierge to arrange the pick up for them. Spaces for more than 5,000 cars are available for both short and long-term parking, and a VIP parking area is located next to the international terminal. Arriving at Domodedovo International Airport Passengers flying from Moscow with Qatar Airways depart from Concourse A, which is part of the main terminal and is specifically for international flights. The terminal building itself is vast, so utilise the information boards to see which gate your flight is departing from. Facilities and amenities Meeting rooms are available for business travellers, while public lounges are open to all passengers. Wi-Fi is available for a fee and there are free Internet kiosks throughout the terminal, as well as mobile phone charging points. A children’s area keeps young travellers entertained, and there are also a surprising number of retail outlets selling very good quality goods and accessories. Duty Free outlets are available once you have cleared customs, and the food hall offers a wide selection of light snacks and more substantial meals.

Arriving in Doha

Book a flight to Doha with Qatar Airways and fly to our hub, Hamad International Airport.

Doha is one of the fastest-growing cities in the Arabian Gulf, where modern innovation meets traditional culture. It is home to an abundance of captivating attractions including mosques, museums, shopping malls and more.

Marked by its crescent-shaped bay, Doha was originally a collection of fishing and pearl diving villages. Today, it boasts a skyline of architectural marvels seen nowhere else in the world.

Tourist attractions

Discover the story of Qatar at Msheireb Enrichment Centre – a barge docked at the Doha Corniche nearby the Sheraton Hotel. It features unique displays that chart the country’s fascinating history and its ongoing plans to build a bright future.

Qatar is also brimming with creative masterpieces, some of which you will find at the Mathaf Arab Museum of Modern Art. Meander through its hallways to admire a collection of contemporary works from across the Arab world.

Continue exploring Middle Eastern treasures when stopping by Souq Waqif – a charming market at the heart of Doha. Here, you can capture memories at the ancient Al Koot Fort, constructed in 1880.

To bask in panoramic views of the Corniche and beyond, make your way to The Clock Tower, located next to the Grand Mosque. Don’t forget to visit Doha Heritage Village in Al Rumeilia Park, to experience Arabian life in the past.
