Tennessee Safari Park: A Visitors Guide

Everything you need to know about visiting this hidden gem full of animals

If you're looking for a weekend activity for the whole family, you can take the kids to the Tennessee Safari Park in Alamo, Tennessee. Its a place to see exotic animals up close and personal. You can even feed some of them. This drive-through park is a definite draw to the rural area.

Although it is the county seat of Crockett County , Alamo would be relatively unknown if it weren't for its primary claim to fame: hosting the Tennessee Safari Park. Many West Tennessee residents don't even know this park exists, making it one of the area's hidden gems. The park is situated on a working farm that is used for growing cotton and raising cattle.

The Animals

Tennessee Safari Park boasts over 400 animals from 80 different species . Some of the animals you may see on your visit are llamas, zebras, emus, kangaroos, giraffes, monkeys, and warthogs. There are frequently new babies being born at the park so if you are lucky, you may even get a chance to see some little ones during your visit. The park has one of the largest collections of zoo animals in the United States.

The Experience

There are two parts to the park—a two-mile driving tour and a petting zoo. When you enter the park you can purchase a bucket of feed. As you drive through the park, animals will come up to your car looking for food. Many of them will eagerly stick their heads in your car, giving you the opportunity to pet and to feed them. This is a great photo opportunity and a lot of fun for kids and adults. At the petting zoo, you have the opportunity to feed and pet other animals, including a giraffe!

Tickets cost $16 for adults, $12 kids aged 3 to 12, and free for children 2 and under.

Buckets of feed cost $3. To save money buy $4 for $10. You'll be glad you have extra feed to attract the animals.

Before You Go

  • Currently the Tennessee Safari Park does not accept credit cards or checks so be sure to bring some cash.
  • The park is about an hour and a half drive from Memphis and about thirty minutes from Jackson.
  • Plan to spend between one and two hours at the park depending upon how crowded it is and how fast or slow you go through the tour.
  • Try to visit the park in the morning, if possible. The animals tend to be hungrier and more eager to interact then.
  • Visitors are encouraged to purchase buckets of feed to feed the animals. Feeding them outside food is not permitted.
  • Pets, including dogs, are not allowed in the park. They might upset the animals.

Hours of Operation

The park is open every day of the year except Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Thanksgiving. If there is inclement weather check the park's Facebook Page. Snow and Ice can cause the park to close suddenly so it can protect the animals.

  • Monday through Saturday, 10:00 am. - 4 p.m. (that's the time of last admittance although the park closes fully at 5 pm)
  • Sunday, 12:00 noon - 4 p.m. (last admittance)

Safari Drive-Thru

The Virginia Safari Park, located in Natural Bridge, offers visitors the opportunity to see and feed animals up-close from their vehicles in the safari drive-thru attraction.

safari park brochure

The Virginia Safari Park opened in the spring of 2000 because we felt there was a need and desire for people to be able to see wild animals in a much more natural environment than had previously been available.

In the Safari, you'll be able to see animals run and frolic with abandon on our 180-acre property. Take your time as you drive along the three miles of maintained gravel road. Feed the animals through your vehicle windows and be prepared to stop for them as they stroll across your path or even lie down.

Our animals are allowed to roam freely and act instinctively. This means you might see males competing with each other for the females’ attention, resulting in cute baby animals being born throughout the season. You could be among the lucky visitors who witness a live birth and the first steps of the newborn.

Feed the Animals

As you make your way along the road in the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Shenandoah Valley, stop every once in a while to feed the animals our specialty grain mixture.

You’ll never forget the experience of one of our huge bull elk or deer eating from your bucket of feed. Drive through as many times as you like to give everyone in your group a chance to have a memorable encounter like this.

From huge wildebeest herds to remarkable desert-adapted elephants and rare mountain gorillas, this continent is home to the biggest stars of National Geographic. It is also the domain of fascinating tribal peoples pursuing age-old traditions.

Africa’s wonders can seep under the skin and safaris can be profoundly life-changing. For travellers these days, there are a huge array of different experiences to choose from. You can discover Botswana’s beautiful Okavango Delta for instance, by 4WD or by dugout canoe and on foot like explorers of old, accompanied by a professional guide, chef and camp crew. You can also soar over the plains of Kenya’s Masai Mara or Namibia’s surreal sand dunes by hot air balloon.

The safari industry has come a long way over the last few decades and throughout eastern and southern Africa,  you’ll find a wide range of incredibly sophisticated camps whose operators put great emphasis on sustainability as well as a high level of client service. That’s not all – on the coast you’ll also discover beautiful beach resorts in idyllic island destinations such as Mauritius and the Seychelles.

Our team have travelled all over Africa, and know our destinations, operators and properties intimately. They can advise you on the best time to visit, where to stay depending on what you want to see and organise all the logistics so your journey is seamless.

For over 37 years, we have created unforgettable safaris for our clients and we look forward to sharing the magic of Africa with you.

Review ★★★★★

“It’s really a good spot to bring your family for a day. My kids loved it. The spacing is good enough that you can walk around, but there are shuttles. Beware you can’t bring food in, even snacks for your kids. I guess they think you might feed the food to the animals. They have a food restaurants strategically along the pathway. So be sure to bring some cash with you incase you get hungry or thirsty, which you will.”

– Tony Stanyer

“Money well spent! The place is well-maintained, staff are nice and there are lots of cool animals to see! Everyone should consider this as part of the itinerary when they visit Cebu.”

– Keith Laganao

“The park may be far from the city, but the experience is worth it. It is designed beautifully, very organized, and clean. The landscape is so awesome. There are so many restaurants placed in strategic locations. The staffs are professional and very friendly. Experiencing the place will be an experience of a lifetime.”

– Mark & Maolyn Diongco

“We had great experience with nature here. Seeing the animal’s habitat and had some facts along the ways is a good way of knowing them. Had witnessed the birdshow and its fantastic. I wanna go back here next year.”

– Christian Philip

“To enjoy and appreciate this park fully get a tour guide. You won’t regret it”

– Edwin Grajo

“I was really amazed by the enormity of the venue. The animals are well maintained and the variety is amazing. Even though, it is lacking some animal shows, like in Singapore or Hong Kong, but I was assured that it is coming. The orchids garden is also attractive with so many species.”

– James Rockwell

“Want a safari adventure? Then this is the place to go. With so many animals to view, lions, zebras, orangutans and many more. They also have a flower garden, orchid garden, bird show and many more. Don’t worry about the food, they have plenty of restaurants. Now, they have new adventure rides, like the zipline, sky bicycle and the ATV trail ride.”

– Joel Borga

This is one of the best zoos in the world! I’m amazed and impressed by the quality of the place and the health of the animals. Such a rare jewel in the Philippines. I’d say this is a must see if you’re visiting Cebu and have had your fill of beach days.

– Marcy Babor

“Truly worth the travel and worth the pay! Everything was in proper order and I so love the place and the animals of course I love how me and my family enjoyed our trip here! “

– Ebeb Gen

As a Canadian who has been to many zoos in the world (Toronto metro zoo, Canada, Artis in the Netherlands, Berlin zoo, Germany to name a few ) Cebu Safari & Adventure Park ranks up there with the best of them. I’ve been there twice and will be going back again. Beautiful zoo and gardens. Do yourself a favor and just GO!!!

Just want to commend the management. It was a beautiful experience for the entire family. To start with, you have courteous employees in the field, and they seem to love their job. The animals are healthy and looks well fed. It was indeed beyond our expectation. Looking forward to more animals and more activities and events ahead. Happy New Year!

In fairness, the safety and hygiene protocols as well as the service at the Cebu Safari were impressive.

Even if it’s not my first time, the park always offers a unique experience bcoz I never know what the “residents” will be doing…Sometimes they show up, other times not; some put on a show, others sit still like statues (haha)..I don’t get tired of looking at the giraffes feeding… or the birds preening… I wonder where the camels are at, and why the snakes have taken a back stage. I just wish there were more educational talks, even recorded ones…Oh well, but I do love the place so much! Thanks!

We really enjoy touring the whole Cebu Safari…Despite the Pandemic we had given the chance to visit the most amazing place in our neighboring town…All the staff are very accommodating…All of us had enjoy especially the kids…I would definitely recommend this place as one of the best place to visit…???

Service was impeccable. Kudos to their staffs especially at the camp area and reception. The place was also amazingly clean. Old and young can come together and enjoy mother nature at its fullest.

Staff – 10/10 customer service Place – 10/10 Stuff to learn – 10/10 The fauna – well managed and well treated The flora – superb! Salute to the landscape work Experience – awesome

We are definitely coming back and will tag along more people with us

19th Edition of Global Conference on Catalysis, Chemical Engineering & Technology

Victor Mukhin

  • Scientific Program

Victor Mukhin, Speaker at Chemical Engineering Conferences

Title : Active carbons as nanoporous materials for solving of environmental problems

However, up to now, the main carriers of catalytic additives have been mineral sorbents: silica gels, alumogels. This is obviously due to the fact that they consist of pure homogeneous components SiO2 and Al2O3, respectively. It is generally known that impurities, especially the ash elements, are catalytic poisons that reduce the effectiveness of the catalyst. Therefore, carbon sorbents with 5-15% by weight of ash elements in their composition are not used in the above mentioned technologies. However, in such an important field as a gas-mask technique, carbon sorbents (active carbons) are carriers of catalytic additives, providing effective protection of a person against any types of potent poisonous substances (PPS). In ESPE “JSC "Neorganika" there has been developed the technology of unique ashless spherical carbon carrier-catalysts by the method of liquid forming of furfural copolymers with subsequent gas-vapor activation, brand PAC. Active carbons PAC have 100% qualitative characteristics of the three main properties of carbon sorbents: strength - 100%, the proportion of sorbing pores in the pore space – 100%, purity - 100% (ash content is close to zero). A particularly outstanding feature of active PAC carbons is their uniquely high mechanical compressive strength of 740 ± 40 MPa, which is 3-7 times larger than that of  such materials as granite, quartzite, electric coal, and is comparable to the value for cast iron - 400-1000 MPa. This allows the PAC to operate under severe conditions in moving and fluidized beds.  Obviously, it is time to actively develop catalysts based on PAC sorbents for oil refining, petrochemicals, gas processing and various technologies of organic synthesis.

Victor M. Mukhin was born in 1946 in the town of Orsk, Russia. In 1970 he graduated the Technological Institute in Leningrad. Victor M. Mukhin was directed to work to the scientific-industrial organization "Neorganika" (Elektrostal, Moscow region) where he is working during 47 years, at present as the head of the laboratory of carbon sorbents.     Victor M. Mukhin defended a Ph. D. thesis and a doctoral thesis at the Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia (in 1979 and 1997 accordingly). Professor of Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia. Scientific interests: production, investigation and application of active carbons, technological and ecological carbon-adsorptive processes, environmental protection, production of ecologically clean food.

Park Druzhby (Friendship Park) in Moscow's Levoberezhny District was opened in 1957 by delegates of the 6th World Festival of Youth and Students which was held in the Soviet capital. In addition to its natural attractions, including some ponds, there are also several statues and sculptures in the park. Two works by the famous Soviet sculptor Vera Mukhina entitled 'Bread' and 'Fertility' can be found by the entrance on Leningradskaya Shosse. Many of the other monuments in the park were donated by foreign countries or cities including Spain (a statue of the writer Miguel de Cervantes), India (a statue of the writer Rabindranath Tagore), Helsinki (a sculpture entitled Children of the World), Hungary (a Hungary-Soviet Friendship monument), Kyrgyzstan (a statue of Manas, the hero of a Kyrgyz epic poem) and Demark (a monument in gratitude of the Soviet war effort). The park's centrepiece is the Friendship Monument depicting a man and a woman releasing doves. In the north of the park there is also an Afghan War memorial.
