The boat excursion to La Maddalena Archipelago with the Valentina Sailing Ship starts with a daily departure from Baia Sardinia at 9.00 am. The meeting point is our stand in the “Piazzetta 2 Vele” at 8.45 am. On request, departures are also provided from Poltu Quatu, Cannigione, La Maddalena and Palau.

The first one-hour stop is in La Maddalena, the main island of the Archipelago, where guests can visit the lovely city center, go shopping, drink a coffee or enjoy an ice cream and take many wonderful photos.

The second stop is in the wonderful Island of Spargi, in “Cala dell’Amore”, a beautiful white sandy beach where you can enjoy a relaxing swim.

Meanwhile, lunch is prepared on the ship, which includes 4 appetizers: peppers and artichokes in oil, sun-dried tomatoes and olive paté accompanied by local bread; as a first course we offer penne with prawns and tomato, or alternatively penne with tomato, basil and cheese, then seasonal fruits and coffee. Still and sparkling water and Vermentino di Gallura obviously accompany the meal. Finally the lunch ends with Sardinian sweets and myrtle. (The menu may be subject to change at the discretion of the crew; any food intolerances must be reported by 3pm the day before departure).

After lunch we depart towards the Island of Budelli to admire the famous Pink Beach and then arrive at the third stop in the natural pools of Manto della Madonna. Here it is possible to dive from the boat or you can also be accompanied in small and unknown coves.

On the way back, the fourth stop is near the island of Caprera, in the Cala Coticcio bay, also known as Tahiti, where you will be enchanted by the incredible marine flora and fauna.

The return to Baia Sardinia is scheduled around 5.30 pm.

Valentina Sailing Ship

A gem of the sea where you can find all the comfort you need...

Seventy-three years old but it does not show. And the ship Valentina II, vintage whaling originally built back in 1939 in the famous shipyard Mjosundet Bat og Hydraulik in Aure, Norway and used until the mid-90s between the Norwegian Sea, English Channel and the Baltic Sea. Since then, this historic vessel was the star of transformations and changes, without ever losing its original grandeur and today, despite its new function, still retains traces of its glorious past when plying the seas in search of small whales. A few years ago, it had been recovered and brought to the Mediterranean via Gibraltar, Valentina II is currently used to transport about 22 passengers. Where once was pinned networks, passengers can now enjoy spacious, comfortable cushions and awnings to make your stay as comfortable as possible on board. A stereo with CD player, a spacious lounge deck and two wc complete the features of this remarkable vessel.

Spargi, Budelli, Santa Maria, and Razzoli (which are located nearby) can generally be visited in one excursion , with stops of varying lengths. While Caprera , which lies to the right of La Maddalena island and is connected to it by a bridge, can be visited by speedboat, but also by bicycle or minivan!

Reaching La Maddalena by ferry

Reaching La Maddalena by ferry is really easy! It only takes 15 minutes from Palau , and the Delcomar company offers routes every half hour throughout the day.

As for prices , you only need to take a look at the fares . Keep in mind that a round-trip ticket for an adult in summer costs €8.70 , or €7.40 leaving on Friday and returning on Sunday (weekend ticket).

If you choose the ferry as your means of transportation to reach La Maddalena from Palau, you have two options:

1 – Travel by car

In this case, the ticket is around €20 round trip (ferry + car) . With your car, you can independently explore the island of La Maddalena and Caprera and reach the most remote beaches and spectacular viewpoints.

However, you will need to make sure to drive carefully and obey the traffic rules on the island. To get around La Maddalena by car you will find directions to both the beaches and Caprera.

However, remember that finding parking near the beaches is difficult if you don’t move early in the morning, especially in high season.

Otherwise, the only thing you’ll have to think about is enjoying the views and the blue water in the area!

2 – Traveling without a car

The island of La Maddalena is quite large and exploring it on foot is difficult . Without transportation, visiting the most beautiful beaches and bays is almost impossible.

If you travel without a car, on the island of La Maddalena you can rent one, or opt for a bicycle and scooter . Prices vary depending on the season, but they are generally quite expensive.

The cheapest option is to use bus shuttles to move between different locations in the archipelago. There are buses connecting La Maddalena to Caprera and all the most popular beaches on the main island. However, services may be less frequent and it is advisable to check schedules in advance.

The main island of the archipelago is La Maddalena . Its town center is a colorful hamlet crisscrossed by cobblestone streets overlooked by stores, cafes and restaurants. Its strategic location has long made it a naval base. Caprera is located east of the island La Maddalena. Among the most beautiful beaches is Cala Coticcio , characterized by fine white sand and turquoise sea, whose coastline is surrounded by pinkish rock cliffs. The ‘island is famous for being Garibaldi’s last residence for a full 26 years. To the west, however, lies the island of Spargi , an unspoiled paradise characterized by sandy coves enclosed by steep headlands. As mentioned, Spargi is home to Cala Corsara , which was named Italy’s most beautiful beach in 2016, featuring fine white sand, small dunes and curiously shaped granite rocks. Above Spargi is the island of Budelli , an earthly paradise that is an important wildlife and landscape reserve. Rosa Beach is the most famous and one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Very nice tour but...

Very nice tour. Departure at 11 a.m. from the port of Palau, a perfect time for those who, like me, want to wake up calmly during the holidays. The 2 bathing stops of the tour beautiful, especially the island of Budelli: never seen such a paradise. Fair bar prices (icnusa beer in a can €3, coffee €1.50 I think). I give 4 stars instead of 5 for the last stop, Caprera. After approaching from the beach (without going down) there was a short stop to dive into the water. Apart from the unbelievable crush that was created, the worst thing was swimming to get back into the boat: very strong current because of the boat engines running, very dangerous. People were in difficulty and clinging to others, creating panic. I would advise against children or people who have difficulty swimming. Otherwise OK.

An unforgettable day

We departed from Palau on time, welcomed by a crew of young people who were kind, professional and very attentive to the order and well-being of the passengers. All the scheduled stops were respected and we visited the most picturesque corners of the Maddalena Archipelago. Passengers were informed about the history and characteristics of the places by a polyglot speaker who explained in Italian, English, French and Spanish. An experience to be recommended for the beauty of the places, the professionalism of the staff and the comfort of the boat, which also has a catering service.

I liked the choice of coves to visit and how the time was divided up so that I could observe and swim in each one. Beautiful scenery and wonderful water. I was very pleased with the low season because none of the beaches were crowded. Too bad about the temperature being a bit low, I would have preferred to leave for the visit in the morning to swim at warmer times when I think the light and colours would have been better. Very friendly and helpful tour guides and staff. Overall super recommended tour!!!

A splendid day

Beautiful day spent aboard the catamaran driven by Luca and helped by Simone. They really spoiled us, starting with a rich aperitif of salami, cheese, bruschetta, chips, and accompanied by a good Vermentino or beer for those who wanted... stopping in strategic places and taking us to the coves in a dinghy, even to the pink beach! Wow a wonder! Serving delicious pasta, offering coffee, myrtle... in short I can only say, thank you guys x this wonderful excursion! I highly recommend 👍🏻

Breathtaking location. Crystal-clear waters. Reefs of all colours. Sea beds laden with fish in a thousand shades of blue. But too many people. The cluster of participants makes everything more complex. From moving around in the motorboat. To getting on and off the beaches. To diving. To admiring the coastline and the colours of the sea. All very nice, but if it were a little less congested, everything would be more enjoyable for the participants.

It was a very nice excursion, but it was a pity that the explanations were only in Italian, although the crew did know English. nWe had an hour to see the village of La Maddalena, an hour and a quarter in the Santa Maria cove and we stopped at the natural pools of Budelli for lunch (they gave us a plate of pasta frutti di mare and it was very good). At the end we stopped for another hour and a half at Cala Corsara.

Porto Cervo Marina

Day 1. La Maddalena (Cala Gavetta) – Palau (Porto Turistico)

First, we are sailing to Palau, which is an important port town and holiday resort. Its beautiful beach, which is ideal for swimming, attracts a lot of tourists. If you visit the place, you should definitely see the rugged mountains, unique valleys and giant granite rocks. For instance, there is the Capo d’Orso or “Rock of the Bear”, which got its name from bear-shaped granite rock. During the main season, you must see the craft market or take part in the cultural programmes.

Day 2. Palau (Porto Turistico) – Porto Pozzo (Pontile Angelo)

Our next destination is Porto Pozzo, located near the mouth of the Riu Val di Mela river. You can relax in an unspoiled natural environment in a pleasant atmosphere. If you are here, try the local seafood prepared from the classic recipes at the L’Osteria di Porto Pozzo. All dishes are prepared with fresh fish of the highest quality. Spend the night in the port of Porto Pozzo.

Day 3. Porto Pozzo (Pontile Angelo) – Santa Teresa Gallura

Bonifacio is the most beautiful town in Corsica, with an exceptional location. It is close to Costa Smeralda. Built on a 65-metre high limestone plateau, you can reach the old town from the beach by walking the 187 steps of the Aragon staircase. The view is spectacular from here, you can even see the north coast of Sardinia in clear weather. The most important monument is the Romanesque church of the Virgin Mary, built-in the early 13th century.

Day 5. Bonifacio – Lavezzi (Plage de la Cala Sderenaia)

You can find the Lavezzi Islands a few kilometres south of Corsica, in the Bonifacio Strait. The islands are uninhabited, so if you are looking for some peace and quiet, it is worth visiting here. The crystal clear waters and snow-white stones look stunning. Spend the night in the bay called Plage de la Cala Sderenaia.

Day 6. Lavezzi (Plage de la Cala Sderenaia) – Cala Santa Maria

After that, we are going to sail to the island of Santa Maria near Corsica, where you can choose to dock at two places. Cala Muro Bay is located in the northeastern part of the island, and Cala Santa Maria is in the southeastern region. The latter is one of the most significant coastal sights on the island where you can enjoy peace and quiet in a beautiful environment. The bay has crystal clear water known for its turquoise colour. You can explore some very interesting spots on the island, for instance, the remains of a medieval monastery. They say that Benedictine monks used to use the place as a shelter.

Day 7. Cala Santa Maria – Caprera – La Maddalena (Cala Gavetta)
