We had a flight of their beers on tap and a tasting of their Whiskey (Rimshot) plus the tenderloin and cheese sampler - which was well worth the $15 bucks it cost. The flight was good - especially the 11.0% Bourbon Barrel Russian Imperial Stout. If you like your beer black and flavorful, this one's for you. The place is in an industrial park, but Google Maps will take you right to it - and it is worth a visit. Read more Written June 10, 2021

San Antonio is known for a lot of things but Ranger Creek is putting it on the map with their out of sight whiskeys. Smooth, drinkable, and full of flavor, I wanted to try them all! On fridays and saturdays you’ll have to check out their cocktails. If liquor isn’t for you, try their awesome beer or food trucks! The tasting room has great atmosphere. Col Mac was a personable and funny guide with a wealth of knowledge. The drinks were great and the atmosphere was relaxed and fun. We were surprised to find bbq was being served out back and man was it good. This family run establishment has really got a good thing going! Honestly the only thing they need to do is expand because it’s a popular little place. This was one of our favorite experiences while in San Antonio!!! Read more Written July 29, 2019
  • Bruner01 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Okay but too crowded This tour was okay, but was way too crowded for our liking. Several very rude visitors were only there for the beer included with the tour and would not shut up so the rest of us could hear what the tour guide was saying. My only suggestion for the tour organizers would be to limit the attendees or regulate the noise from the people attending. Read more Written July 6, 2019

We really enjoyed our visit and ended up staying the whole afternoon at the brewery. For 10$ you got lots of information, good beer/whiskey and a nice cup to take home as a souverir. • Tmae54 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Fun Tour, Well Worth the Price I'm not a beer or whiskey connoisseur, so I'm really not the best person to comment on the beverages offered at Ranger Creek other than to say everything I tasted was fine by me. The tour itself, though, was one of the best my husband and I have had. Col. Mac was our tour guide, and even though we've done other brewery tours we heard a lot of interesting information that was new to us. We thought it was a great way to spend a couple hours on a Saturday afternoon. Specifics: Ranger Creek is located in an industrial area, which means there are no restaurants or other attractions nearby. It took us less than 30 minutes to get there from the Alamo. Plenty of free parking. Our $10 admission charge per person got us each either three full draws of beer or two draws and four tastes of whiskey, and we got to keep the Mason jar from our tasting. Three beers and a glass for ten bucks? Definitely got our money's worth right there, plus the fun and informative tour on top of that. When we were there they did not have food for sale other than potato chips and such. Eat before you go. San Antonio is a very military-friendly place, and Ranger Creek displays that attitude through their Buy a Vet a Beer board. You'll learn more about it when you get there. I don't recall any steps or other impediments to anyone with mobility concerns, but you might call ahead just to be sure. I would happily take this tour again if I'm ever back in San Antonio. 5 Distilleries to Visit in the Texas Hill Country for a High-Spirited Tour

Tony Maples Photography

Think distilleries don’t exist in the Texas Hill Country where wine reigns? Think again. Hard spirit makers operate throughout the state and proliferate in the Hill Country. If you love sampling the finer vodkas, whiskeys, and more, you need to make these distilleries a part of your next Hill Country ramble.

1. Rebecca Creek Distillery

Hill Country Distilleries Rebecca Creek Distillery Whiskey and Texas Ranger Whiskey

Photo: Facebook/Rebecca Creek Distillery

Based in San Antonio, Rebecca Creek Distillery makes three labels sold around the Lone Star State, Rebecca Creek Whiskey, Texas Ranger Whiskey, and Enchanted Rock Vodka. Like many other Texas Hill Country distilleries, this one offers tours. Stop by Thursdays through Sundays for tours and several events on those days. Check out steak night, happy hour, and other fun things on tour evenings and afternoons at the Rebecca Creek Distillery while sampling their spirits and getting a look behind the scenes.

2. Hill Country Distillers

Hill Country Distillers Products

Hill Country Distillers claims to be first in Texas to offer a spirits club, where members get bottles of spirits and discounts throughout the year. Should you consider joining, make sure you live near Comfort so you can pick up your drinks in person as distilleries are not allowed to ship materials around the state. Hill Country Distillers makes unusual drinks such as jalapeño and prickly pear specialty distilled spirits in addition to liquors and brandies concocted from Texas wines. If you have a dog, then bring it along because the dining area offers accommodations for your four-legged friend.

3. Garrison Brothers Distillery

Located in Hye, Garrison Brothers Distillery operates the oldest legal whiskey distillery in the state. It manufactures Texas bourbon. If you’d like to visit and try a sample, take a sit and sip tour of the grounds Wednesdays through Sundays. Tours cost $10 to $20, but since this is Texas, if you arrive for the tour on a horse, you get in for free.

4. San Luis Spirits

Dripping Springs Vodka Bottles

San Luis Spirits produces Dripping Springs vodka and gin in small batches in Dripping Springs, Texas. The tasting room is open Monday through Saturday, but if you want a tour of the facility, you’ll need to go Thursday through Saturday. Cocktail hour and other events occur regularly at the distillery, so you will likely find an activity to strike your fancy when you visit.

5. Cypress Creek Reserve

Texas Hill Country Distilleries Cypress Creek Reserve's Rum Bottle Among Bluebonnets

Unlike most other Texas Hill Country distilleries, Cypress Creek Reserve in Wimberly offers tours on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in addition to Thursday through Saturday. If you want to spread out your tours throughout the week, visiting Cypress Creek Reserve when other distilleries are closed will help your itinerary. On the tour, you can see how this distillery produces its rum and vanilla extract. It’s one of the few distilleries that produce rum in Texas and is close enough to Austin and San Antonio for a quick day trip to tour the facility or to stock up on liquor.

Devils River small batch whiskey is bold, capturing the untamable spirit of the water it’s sourced from. A part of the Rio Grande basin system, the Devils River is remote and wild, demanding respect for the raw power of its waters and the rugged beauty of its landscape. The river’s naturally filtered limestone spring water is considered the purest water in Texas. The sweet iron free water helps create a bold, Sinfully Smooth Whiskey with a warm finish.

Hye, TX (October 18, 2023) –  Garrison Brothers , Texas’ first legal bourbon distillery, is proud to announce a new partnership with the  San Antonio Spurs  and  the Frost Bank Center . The multi-year deal, which includes Garrison Brothers named an  Official Partner of the San Antonio Spurs began on October 1. The Frost Bank Center now features a new namesake bar, Garrison Brothers Bourbon Bar, in the north side of the Frost Club. The new bar is open to all Spurs fans and concert attendees of the legal drinking age and features three Garrison Brothers bourbon expressions and seasonal cocktails on tap. Garrison Brothers began service at the Frost Bank Center officially on October 16. The fully branded bar will be completed in late 2023.

“The legacy of the San Antonio Spurs is unparalleled, and to be a part of their journey at the Frost Bank Center is an honor for Garrison Brothers Distillery. Together, with our Garrison Brothers bourbon, we aim to elevate the fan experience, blending the best of Texas tradition and innovation,” states Rob Cordes, Chief Marketing Officer, Garrison Brothers Distillery.

This partnership was made possible through Garrison Brothers’ collaboration with Oak View Group (OVG), the global venue development, advisory, and investment company for the sports and live entertainment industries. OVG Global Partnerships initiated this deal on behalf of Frost Bank Center and the Spurs.

Recently named as 2023 Distillery of the Year by the American Distilling Institute, Garrison Brothers, founded in 2006, is located in Hye, Texas. The distillery, which is open for tours and special events, sits on a 100-acre working cattle ranch in the beautiful Hill Country. “Both the Spurs and Garrison Brothers share a long history in Texas, providing unforgettable experiences to our customers and fans for decades,” said Katrina Palanca, Vice President of Global Partnerships at Spurs Sports & Entertainment. “As San Antonio’s premier entertainment destination, we’re proud to align with a partner like Garrison Brothers that provides an excellent product with a rich history. The Garrison Brothers Bourbon Bar will elevate the in-arena experience for Frost Bank Center attendees, and we can’t wait for them to enjoy these new offerings.”

The Frost Bank Center, originally opened in November 2002, is the premier entertainment venue in South Texas. About Garrison Brothers Distillery

Garrison Brothers Distillery is a small farm and ranch located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country that authentically produces straight bourbon whiskey. Garrison Brothers introduced the first bourbon whiskey legally made in Texas in 2010 and has since developed a rabid fan base. They currently have a waitlist of more than 18,000 just to volunteer on bottling days, and their Cowboy Bourbon normally sells out within hours of its release. Garrison Brothers is the first legal bourbon distillery in Texas history and the first distillery outside of Kentucky to produce authentic, handmade bourbon whiskey—and only bourbon whiskey. Every expression of Garrison Brothers bourbon is made from a sweet mash bill and barrel-aged in the intense Texas climate. The extreme heat creates multiple aging seasons in a year, resulting in a darker, richer, and fuller bourbon, bolder than almost any other bourbon on the market.

In 2023, Garrison Brothers Distillery, was named  Distillery of the Year  and presented with the prestigious Bubble Cap award by the American Distilling Institute. Garrison Brothers’ Guadalupe was awarded Platinum at the 2022 ASCOT Awards as well as at the Monterey International Wine & Spirits Competition also taking home the 2022 Spirit of the Year. Guadalupe continued to take home Gold awards in 2022 including: San Francisco World Spirits Competition, San Diego International Wine & Spirits Challenge, Spirits International Prestige Awards (SIP), Denver International Spirits Competition and TAG Global Spirits Awards. At the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2021, Garrison Brothers’ Laguna Madre was awarded a Double Gold Medal along with one Silver Medal for Single Barrel and three Bronze Medals. At the Denver International Spirits Competition, Garrison Brothers won Best of Show in 2021, taking 1st place for their Cowboy Bourbon.

Garrison Brothers is a proud and active member of the communities of Blanco, Fredericksburg, Hye, Johnson City, and Stonewall. The distillery and its barrel barns are open to the public for tours in Hye, Texas. Anyone interested in learning more about Garrison Brothers Bourbon or in taking a tour of the distillery should visit  garrisonbros.com  or follow @garrisonbros on  Facebook ,  Twitter , and  Instagram .
