The width of your truck axle should closely match the width of your skateboard deck, usually within 1/4”.

Truck Size

For additional info visit our Skateboard Trucks Buying Guide

Truck height is measured from the bottom of the truck’s baseplate to the center of the axle. In general, a mid-sized truck works well for most skateboarders, but high or low trucks may be preferred for different styles of skaters.

Truck Height

LO - Provides extra stability for flip tricks, designed for small wheels (50-53mm wheel size recommended).

MID - Good all-around profile for street or park (53-56mm wheel size recommended).

HIGH - Great for cruising and carving, designed for large wheels (56mm+ wheel size recommended).

The hanger is the truck's T-shaped aluminum alloy grind area. It makes direct contact with rails and curbs. The hanger holds the axle on which the wheels are mounted. Hangers weigh about 10-13 oz, with lighter ones available. The width of your truck axle should closely match the width of your skateboard deck, usually within 1/4”.

Construction refers to the material(s) used in fabrication or the specific brand technology.

For additional info visit our Skateboard Buying Guide

The average width of a skateboard deck is 7.5"- 8.25". Width is influenced by the size of the rider and the type of riding. Bigger riders and those skating ramps typically prefer a wider deck. Street skaters usually choose a smaller deck. Choose your skateboard deck according to the width, not length. Here are some general guidelines:

Deck Size

MICRO - Deck width: 6.75" or smaller - 5 years old or younger, under 3'4" tall. Size 3 shoes or smaller.

MINI - Deck width: 7.0" - 6 to 8 years old between 3'5" & 4'4" tall. Size 4-6 shoes.

MID - Deck width: 7.3" - 9 to 12 years old between 4'5" & 5'2" tall. Size 7-8 shoes.

FULL - Deck width: 7.5" or larger - for all skaters over age 13, taller than 5'3" with a shoe size of 9 or up.

7.5" to 8" Standard board for adult riders skating streets or doing more technical tricks

8.0" to 8.25" Skating pools, ramps and parks

8.25" and larger Vert, pools, cruising and just going old school

Still having a hard time with size, try our Skateboard Sizer

For additional info visit our Skateboard Decks Buying Guide

Deck type refers to the size or style (shape) of the skateboard deck. If you are a beginner, choose your deck according to the width, not the length. The width you need depends on your size, skating style and personal preference. Here are some general guidelines:

Cruisers, Old School, Freestyle, Longboard and Downhill all refer to a skateboarding style and the corresponding shape.

Length is measured from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail. Average board length is 28"- 32" and longboards can range 32" and larger, but length is only referred to by advanced skaters.

Deck Buying Guide

Wheel size or diameter - All Skateboard wheels are measured in millimeters (mm). The smaller the number, the smaller the wheel. Smaller wheels are slower; bigger wheels are faster.

Wheel Buying Guide

50-53mm - Small slower wheels, stable for trick riding and smaller riders skating street, skate parks and bowls.

54-59mm - Average wheel size for beginners and bigger riders skating street, skate parks, bowls and vert ramps.

60mm + - Specialty riders skating longboards, old-school boards, downhill and dirt boards; made for speed and rougher surfaces.

For additional info visit our Skateboard Wheels Buying Guide

Durometer measures the wheel’s hardness. Harder wheels are faster; softer wheels are slower but have better grip.

78a-87a - Soft wheel good for rough surfaces, longboards or street boards that need lots of grip and easier to roll over cracks and pebbles. Designed for a smooth ride cruising, longboards, hills and rough surfaces.

88a-95a - Slightly harder and faster with a little less grip, but the grip's still good. Street; rough surfaces.

96a-99a - Good speed and grip - an all-around wheel. Great for beginners skating street, skate parks, ramps and pools. Smooth surfaces.

101a + - Hardest and fastest wheel with the least grip. Ineffective on slick and rough surfaces. These are pro wheels.

83b-84b - Wheels using the B scale are extremely hard, measuring 20 points lower than the the A Scale in order to allow the scale to extend another 20 points for harder wheels.

The laws for skateboarding helmets vary from state to state. Many states require that skaters wear a helmet under a certain age, and some states like California make all skaters under 18 wear a CPSC Certified helmet at all times. CSPC skateboard helmets usually have an EPS protective liner that meets the safety standards for skateboarding. Make sure you check your state's regulations before ordering.

CPSC Certified Helmets: California requires that all skateboard helmets must meet the requirements of the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Section 890.4 of the Streets and Highways Code enforces these standards in California and will not allow Warehouse Skateboards to ship non-CPSC Certified helmets to California.

Unsure of the size you need? Visit our Clothing Sizing Charts

Most bearings are measured by an ABEC rating. The higher the ABEC rating, the more accurate and precise the bearing will be. This rating system includes grades 1,3,5,7 and 9. The closer you get to an ABEC 9 rating, the faster and less friction you will have when skateboarding.

Many companies do not use the ABEC rating scale. They brand their own specific technology.

For additional info visit our Skateboard Bearings Buying Guide

Note: Each brands skateboard helmet size will vary; therefore, it is best to measure your head and refer to the sizing chart specific to each brand of helmet. In order to properly measure your head, follow these steps:

Wrap a soft tape measure around your forehead, just above your eyebrows and ears. Keep the tape measure level from the front to the back of your head. Your skateboard helmet should sit low on your forehead.

Helmet Buying Guide

If you do not have a flexible tape measure, try marking a string and measuring it against a ruler.

If the helmet is a gift or you cannot measure the skater's head, measure the inside of a current helmet or hat they wear.

Within each skateboard helmet product page there are specific measurements for each skate brand. Use that information, along with your head size, to determine your correct helmet size before placing your order. This will ensure that you receive the best fit.

The best Labor Day travel deals of 2024

Travel is rarely as simple as grabbing a bag and heading out the door. Nowadays, you likely need to pack your laptop, tablet, earbuds and phone — and don't forget the chargers. This case keeps all of the cables neatly organized with layers and a variety of compartments to make sure nothing gets tangled.

"This is perfect for all the cords and gadgets for a flight," one five-star reviewer wrote . "It's about the size of my hand, and even comes with a wristband. This is very lightweight, but really nice quality."

Once you start using Apple AirTags to keep tabs on checked luggage while traveling, you'll never hop on a plane without them again. These tiny trackers use Apple's Find My network to help you locate missing luggage — even if it winds up across the country.

Speaking of staying on track: This 4-pack of AirTags is nearly 25% off.

If you don't need a full packing cube set and you're just looking for something to separate your shoes from the rest of your gear, these affordable nylon shoe bags are just what you need. They're spacious enough to fit high heels and high-top sneakers, and at 55% off, you can't go wrong. This is the lowest we've seen these — ever!

"I took my workout shoes, hiking boots and everyday casual shoes when traveling [to] Asia for several months last year and these were perfect to keep shoes clean, and also from rubbing up against your clean clothes in a suitcase," one five-star reviewer wrote .

Traveling is stressful enough, so when there's no in-flight entertainment system, it's definitely a bummer. This phone holder lets you prop up your device so that you can watch your favorite shows or movies hands-free and at eye level. It easily attaches to your luggage handle, so it's a no-brainer, space-saving add-on.

"As a commuting flight attendant, [this] comes in very handy!" one reviewer said . "At home, I like it propped up on the counter."

Travel experts and frequent fliers say packing cubes are one of the easiest ways to stay organized. If you tend to overpack or always seem to forget something, they can keep everything tidy and easy to find. In addition to an array of bags in various sizes, this eight-piece set includes a toiletry bag, a shoe bag and a sock bag.

"I'm getting ready for flight attendant training and wanted to buy these to help me organize the many things I need to bring," wrote one reviewer . "What surprised me is that both pairs of high heels fit in the shoe bag."

If your feet swell when you fly, you're not alone — it's caused by cabin pressure, and investing in some good compression socks is an easy fix. They help increase blood circulation, especially if you're on a lengthy flight and will be sitting for hours on end. These popular compression socks have over 59,000 five-star reviews and shoppers say they're great for bigger calves too.

"Best compression socks I have ever bought," one happy traveler said . "These are great quality and easy to put on but do not 'strangle' my calves. The compression is consistent after using and washing for months — they do not lose their elasticity."

If you've ever tried to settle in for an in-flight snooze, you know it's a challenge. Travelers say this 100% memory foam neck pillow is the closest they've gotten to sleeping on a real pillow while they're on a plane. It even comes with a drawstring carrying bag.

"I've gone through several kinds of neck pillows and this is my favorite," one flight crew member wrote . "I have a bad neck (arthritis and a reversed C-spine). I had to sleep with it once in a hotel because their pillows were dreadful and found it more comfortable! As a flight attendant, I recommend!"

If you've ever tried sleeping on an airplane, you already know that it's easier said than done. Reading lights, laptop screens and tiny bands of light coming in from the windows are all distractions to your slumber. Block out those disturbances and get some much-needed zzzs with this No. 1 bestselling light-blocking eye mask. It's soft on the skin and, while it's structured around the eyes, it gives them ample space so they feel lightly cradled in darkness.

"What a difference it made!" one of over 70,000 five-star reviewers wrote . "[I] was able to sleep on the plane and have no disruptions from light."

When it comes to air travel, your personal item is your BFF. It holds all your must-have essentials, ready for quick, under-seat access throughout your journey. A good one should be roomy enough for everything you need, yet compact enough to slide under the seat in front of you. This one checks both boxes and then some. With smart features like a handy wet/dry pocket, a dedicated phone compartment and a convenient trolley sleeve, it’s designed to keep you organized and stylish from takeoff to landing.

"Lightweight and durable," one five-star reviewer wrote. "Easy to collapse and expand. It fit easily onto the suitcase handle and easily on the airplane. I used it for medications, valuables and overnight items."

You're in a brand new place — possibly one where you don't speak the language — that phone of yours better not run out of juice! A high-quality power bank can keep this nightmare at bay. This model from trusted tech brand Anker juices up the iPhone 12 up to two times on a single charge. Since it's super slim, you can just slide it in your pocket or bag and it will barely take up any space.

"This was a savior when I was traveling, to charge my iPhone whose battery dies quickly when taking a lot of pictures. This is a must-have item. Slim and sleek, a bit heavy if you are walking all day but worth it," wrote one shopper .

When a suitcase feels too bulky, a weekender or overnight bag is often the perfect alternative. Ukraine’s Push Into Russia Is a Surprising Turn in the War

The local government in the Russian region of Kursk declared a state of emergency as military analysts reported that Ukrainian forces had advanced several miles across the border.

Reporting from Kyiv, Ukraine

After months of losing ground to Russia in brutal, grinding battles in Ukraine, Kyiv shifted tactics with a surprise attack into Russian territory this week that caught Moscow off guard and opened a new front in the 30-month war.

Ukrainian forces have punched through Russian border defenses and seized several settlements in fighting that was still raging on Thursday, according to Russian officials, a Ukrainian soldier and analysts. The attack triggered a state of emergency in one region in the west of Russia. Ukrainian armored columns were filmed moving along roads as far as six miles inside Russia.

But the attack left some military analysts wondering why Ukraine would throw scarce resources into a risky assault in a new area at a time when it is fighting pitched battles to hold on to positions in its own territory.

It was unclear whether Ukraine would seek to hold the area. Whatever the next step by Ukrainian forces, the attack appeared to push the limits on attacking inside Russia with American-provided equipment and put the Russians in disarray. American-made armored vehicles were also filmed being blown up in a Russian counterattack.

The goal was to shift the fighting — and Russian soldiers and weaponry — onto Russian territory and ease the pressure of Moscow’s offensive in eastern Ukraine, a senior Ukrainian official said. He asked not to be cited by name, as Ukraine has not acknowledged its soldiers are fighting in Russia.

“We are at war,” he said of striking inside enemy territory. “Why Russia can and we cannot?”

So far the assault has played out “much more successfully” than previous cross-border raids, the senior Ukrainian official said.

Operating surreptitiously to evade Russian reconnaissance and spies, Ukraine gathered a force that Russia’s top general has estimated at 1,000 soldiers for a mechanized assault on Russia’s border, an audacious move after repeated setbacks over the past year and a half.

sector 9 travel bag

In Washington, a State Department spokesman, Matthew Miller, said Wednesday that the use of U.S.-supplied weapons and munitions in the attack by Ukraine did not violate U.S. policy.

“Nothing about our policy has changed, and with the actions that they are taking today, they’re not in violation of our policy,” Mr. Miller said.

Andriy Zagorodnyuk, a former Ukrainian defense minister who still advises the government, said the goal was not to hold the territory long-term, but rather to challenge the Russians, to “divert their forces, attention and resources.” And “show they have no reserves and no resilience capacity.”

Konrad Muzyka, a military analyst for Rochan Consulting in Poland, writing in Ukraine Conflict Monitor, said Ukraine could benefit if the attack reduced Russian attacks in the Donetsk region of Ukraine and allowed Kyiv to maintain a presence in the Kursk area, and thus improve its negotiating position. But Ukraine would be the loser if its troops were pushed back with high losses, he said.

“There is no middle ground here,” Mr. Muzyka wrote. “The operation is daring. Let’s see what the next few days bring.”

Military analysts say they are skeptical that Russia, which has a vastly larger army and arsenal of weapons than Ukraine, would be forced to divert forces from the fighting inside Ukraine to defend its border. Russia has reserves of conscript soldiers it is prohibited by its policies from deploying into Ukraine, but could on Russian soil.

Ukraine has remained mostly silent about the attack, which began on Tuesday . President Volodymyr Zelensky seemed to hint at an aim of raising the cost of the war for Russians without directly acknowledging the Ukrainian incursion in a speech Wednesday. “The more pressure is exerted on Russia — the aggressor that brought war to Ukraine — the closer peace will be,” he said.

Mr. Zelensky, in his nightly address on Thursday, again spoke only indirectly of the Ukrainian attack, saying, “Russia brought war to our land and should feel what it has done.”

Surprise played the pivotal role, Roman Kostenko, the secretary of the defense and intelligence committee in Ukraine’s Parliament, said in an interview. “It was obvious Russia was not prepared and it was a total surprise,” he said. “This is rare in modern war.”

Ukraine, he said, should fight wherever conditions are favorable, whether in Russia or along the front line inside the country. “Our readiness to strike in this way, here or somewhere else, will force Russia to deploy troops to respond.”

Ivan Kyrychevsky, a commentator on military affairs for Defense Express, said Ukraine’s official silence on the operation aided its success, in contrast to the highly telegraphed lead-up to Ukraine’s counteroffensive last year. “If we don’t understand what’s happening, it’s even less clear to the enemy,” he said.

The Russian and Ukrainian armies face off over about 600 miles of international border, in addition to the frontline inside Ukraine. In the Sumy region, Ukraine in June and July had been bracing for a Russian cross-border assault, officials had said. But when the fighting started, it was Ukrainian troops entering Russia.

“They were not expecting us, and they fled wherever they could,” said a Ukrainian soldier who fought in the assault and who asked to be identified by only his first name, Oleksandr, in keeping with Ukrainian military protocol. His unit took prisoners and captured a tank, he said in a telephone interview.

The Ukrainians, he said, were motivated to take the fight into Russia. “To be honest, we all have joy in our hearts,” Oleksandr said, though he acknowledged there were still risks.

Ukraine has not advanced so quickly since reclaiming the Kherson region in the country’s south in November 2022. In May, Russia had surprised Ukraine when it sent troops across the border in the area north of Kharkiv, where it still has a narrow foothold. In the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, understrength Ukrainian units are falling back, and Russia is fighting in or close to the strategic hilltop town of Chasiv Yar and rail and road hubs in Kostyantynivka and Pokrovsk.

The incursion into the Kursk region is the third significant Ukrainian ground assault on Russian territory since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine more than two years ago. But it appears to be the largest, according to open-source intelligence analysts studying photographs and videos from the area of Russia under attack, a rolling expanse of farm fields, forests and small towns.

Some analysts estimate that Ukraine has sent hundreds of troops into Russia, a major commitment as its forces are under pressure in the east. Russia’s chief of the general staff, Valery Gerasimov, said in televised remarks that Ukraine deployed 1,000 soldiers.

In a statement on Thursday, Russia’s Ministry of Defense said it was destroying Ukrainian formations and repelling the attack.

But a prominent Russian military blogger who writes under the name of Rybar said Thursday that Ukrainian forces had Sudzha, the main town in the area, “practically under full control.” Videos from Sudzha, verified by The New York Times, show cars trying to leave amid sounds of gunshots and roads littered with burned vehicles and what appeared to be mines.

The Kremlin sought to maintain calm as the state news media portrayed the incursion as akin to a natural disaster rather than a military crisis, Mikhail Vinogradov, a Moscow political analyst, said. State media highlighted efforts to help civilians while doing little to place the attack in the context of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

A noon news broadcast on Russia’s state-controlled Channel 1 on Thursday showed bottled water being dispatched for evacuees and supportive vigils in cities like Sochi on the Black Sea.

“Kursk, we are with you!” a person there was shown saying.

Mr. Vinogradov, in a phone interview, said the restrained coverage reflected the Kremlin’s avoidance of “politicization” of the Russian public, with Russian officials instead preferring to limit people’s exposure to the ups and downs of the war.

Dmitri Kuznets, an analyst of the war for Meduza, an independent Russian news outlet based in Latvia, said the Ukrainian Army had clearly found a loophole in Russian defenses and caught thin and ill-equipped troops off guard.

Mr. Zelensky’s administration offered its first commentary on the incursion on Thursday in a statement by a senior adviser that did not acknowledge any Ukrainian role but portrayed Russians as collectively backing Mr. Putin’s invasion, signaling the intention was not to affect morale inside Russia.

The adviser, Mykhailo Podolyak, said Russians were not going to “come out with flowers to greet the anti-Putin tanks,” and noted that a million Russians had volunteered to serve in the country’s military.

The Ukrainian push involves regular army units, analysts have noted, in a change from the previous incursions, which were carried out by armed groups of Russian exiles backed by Kyiv’s army. That tactic had offered Kyiv a veneer of noninvolvement.

The European Union spokesman, Peter Stano, told the Ukrainian news outlet Suspilne that Ukraine “has the legal right to defend itself, including by striking at the aggressor on its territory.”

Photographs and videos posted online and verified by independent military analysts suggested that Ukrainian forces had overrun a Russian metering station for a pipeline exporting natural gas to Europe across Ukraine, which had remained active despite the war. Gazprom, the Russian gas company, told Russian news media the flows declined slightly. In Europe, natural gas prices rose.

A video filmed by a Russian drone and posted by a Russian military blogger who writes under the handle Dva Mayora, or Two Majors, showed a damaged, U.S.-made armored vehicle at a road intersection six miles inside Russia.

Kursk incursion: How significant is Ukraine's advance into Russian territory?

Sky News looks at the conflicting reports coming out of Russia's Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces have broken through defensive lines.

Around 1,000 Ukrainian troops have penetrated several miles into Russia's Kursk region in an ongoing incursion that appears to have caught the Russian military by surprise.

Much of the picture remains unclear as Ukraine seeks to maintain operational security, but experts say the offensive appears to have broken through at least two sets of Russian defensive lines and a stronghold in the Kursk region.

Messaging from the Kremlin has been contradictory, seeking on the one hand to present the developments as significant while at the same time insisting that the situation is under control.

The border between Ukraine and Russia, with the Kursk region highlighted

Where is the Ukrainian incursion and how far have the troops got into Russian territory?

Russian forces have been battling Ukrainian troops for three days now after they smashed through the Russian border in the Kursk region .

Estimates vary but it's thought around 1,000 Ukrainian troops went through the border in the early hours of Tuesday with tanks and armoured vehicles, supported by drones and artillery.

According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) thinktank, geolocated footage shows confirmed advances of up to 10km (6.2miles) into Russian territory.

The ISW referenced a Russian source who claimed Ukrainian forces have seized 45 square kilometres of land and other Russian sources that reported Ukrainian forces have captured 11 total settlements.

However, while it appears possible to confirm some elements, much of the situation remains unclear.

sector 9 travel bag

Has something like this happened before?

In the two-plus years of the war since February 2022 there have been other instances of limited incursions into Russian territory.

However, these were generally made up of proxy forces - disaffected Russians who were anti-Kremlin - rather than Ukrainian troops themselves.

In May last year, a group known as the Russian Volunteer Corps claimed to be behind an armed raid on the Belgorod area of Russia .

This time round it appears that enlisted Ukrainian troops are involved in an organised and planned raid into Russia.

sector 9 travel bag

What have Russia and Ukraine said?

The Kremlin and other Russian officials have been contradictory in their response to the unfolding situation - calling it a "large-scale provocation" while also insisting that the situation is "under control".

The Russian Ministry of Defence edited a post on 6 August to remove claims that the Ukrainian forces were just a sabotage and reconnaissance group and that they later retreated, likely to avoid backlash from making demonstrably false claims about the scale and tactics of the ongoing Ukrainian penetration, the ISW reported.

On Thursday, the Russian MoD claimed its forces had prevented a Ukrainian advance in the Kursk region.

By contrast, Ukrainian officials and commentators have largely been silent on the ongoing incursion, likely to maintain operational security.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in his nightly video address on Wednesday, made no reference to the attack, while exhorting Kyiv's soldiers to press on and weaken Russian forces.

However, Presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak referenced the situation in a post on X on Thursday: "The root cause of any escalation, shelling, military actions, forced evacuations, and destruction of normal life forms, including within (Russia's) own territories like Kursk and Belgorod regions, is solely Russia's unequivocal aggression."

How significant is the Ukrainian operation in Kursk?

"As ever, a developing situation, so we should be wary of grand predictions," Matthew Savill, military sciences director at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) thinktank, told Sky News.

The penetration seems to be 10km to 20km and may involve several thousand troops, he said, but added that the situation is very confusing and caution is required.

"It's unlikely that the plan is to seriously take Kursk itself, or to try and hold vast swathes of Russian territory," he said.

"The Ukrainians don't have much in the way of reserves, whereas the Russians do and sustaining a medium-sized force into Russia right now would be tough for the Ukrainians."

Mr Savill speculated some possible motives for the incursion, including:

• to strike a blow against Russian prestige and morale

• to send a signal to international backers that Ukraine is still in the fight and can manoeuvre

• to try and capture more Russian prisoners of war, for future prisoner exchanges

• it could have been an opportunity that opened up to strike against a vulnerable point and is linked to other undeclared operations

• to threaten rear lines and forces in Russia that could lead to the withdrawal of the Russian forces that tried to create the "buffer zone" around Kharkiv

He added: "It's a risky operation if it is more than a 'raid' to disorientate Russian defenders, but the Ukrainians have shown themselves resourceful before, and it's hard to second-guess them from a thousand miles away while this is only a few days old."
