9 thoughts on “ star trek nemesis: the deluxe edition cd ”.
The ONLY good thing about this dud of a Star Trek film. The late Jerry Goldsmith’s soundtrack.
What do all the * and ** and *** mean?
Why does this movie get so much hate? Do Trek fans just love to constantly hate on everything at this point?
Insurrection and Nemesis were both sub-par trek movies.. But they were servicable and not crimes against humanity.
Not all fans love to hate on the episodes/movie they don’t like, but it seems the most negative ones are the most likely to comment. I liked Nemesis. Obviously not one of the best films by any means but I still enjoyed it.
I enjoyed Nemesis. In fact, I’d go so far as to say it’s grown on me over time. I admit there were a few things I’d change if I was making the film, but it was a good movie.
Agree to disagree!
I thought Nemesis was a swing and a miss rather than a total pooch screw. It had a lot of good aspects to counterbalance the cringeworthy parts. Overall it came off as alright, though it could have been better without much more effort, but all involved were clearly preoccupied with mugging for the camera. Insurrection however… is just inexplicable. It’s a mediocre two-part TNG episode padded out with… singing? More ego indulgence. This should not have been a film and the fact that it was just shows how dry the creativity well had gotten.
We’re on the same page with Nemesis. I was fairly young when it came out and immediately loved it just because I grew up watching TNG. I’ve since realized it’s not one of the better Trek movies but I thought the story was ineresting and the ending has an emotional impact (whether or not it was necessary).
The problems with Insurrection and Nemesis, from what I can tell, are the following two things.
1. Insurrection was essentially a NG version of TOS episode The Omega Glory, with a little bit of the NG episode Journey’s End thrown in the mix of things. 2. Nemesis was essentially the NG versions of two of the best movies of TOS – The Wrath Of Khan and The Undiscovered Country.

Star Trek Nemesis (soundtrack)
- View history
Overview [ ]
Jerry Goldsmith's penultimate completed score before his 2004 death ( Looney Tunes: Back in Action being his last) finishes out the TNG -era films with a bang... of sorts. Touted as Goldsmith's most "aggressive" effort to date, the score for Star Trek Nemesis delves into darker and certainly harsher action/adventure music than any other Star Trek score. Composed with a similar mix of electronic and traditional orchestral elements, Nemesis features far more subdued synthesized instrumentation than heard in Star Trek: Insurrection , with bracing percussive elements taking center stage. Playing a much more ethereal role in this score, the synthesized elements are comparable to Vangelis' Blade Runner , though more integrated with the live orchestra.
Themes from earlier Goldsmith Star Trek incarnations such as the now standard Enterprise theme ( Star Trek: The Motion Picture ) and the "adversity" or "Busy Man" theme ( Star Trek V: The Final Frontier ) return, while, for the first time Worf 's Klingon theme (also from The Motion Picture and Star Trek V ) is strangely left out. New material, of course, representing Shinzon and the Remans is heard, based on a five-note motif that carries throughout the film, culminating in a beautiful concert performance during the end credits suite.
Unlike Goldsmith's previous Star Trek compositions, Nemesis grapples with the darker thematic content in the film and generally strays from the softer emotions like those evoked in The Final Frontier and even First Contact . The score acts as an almost neutral party, playing to full bombast during exciting action sequences, but remaining relatively detached during such delicate moments as the Riker / Troi wedding and Data 's wake .
Another unique aspect of Nemesis is the use of Irving Berlin's " Blue Skies ", integrated into the film's finale, though ultimately fleeting. Bookending Shinzon's theme and Data's "final fight" is a traditional rendition of Goldsmith's end credit theme, performed with slightly less vigor than earlier versions, possibly a reminder of the melancholy nature of this "Generation's final journey" and Goldsmith's own final contribution to the Star Trek legacy.

What Nemesis music tracks do you think are best? The only TNG movie with really memorable music, to me, was FC, but it's been a long time since I saw Nemesis.
I'm pretty found of the whole thing, there's a general sense of foreboding and menace, punctured every now and then by flares of the TNG theme. It's got an interesting sound too, with the electronic and percussive elements almost echoing some of the sounds of The Motion Picture's soundtrack. I'll admit it's maybe a bit samey throughout, so it's a hard to pick favourite tracks, I just like the themes. If pushed I might pick "The Scorpion", which has some nice bits from the recurring theme, and an especially nice flare of the TNG themes a the end. "Final Flight" is quite nice too, very bombastic.

Star Trek: Nemesis Soundtrack – Deluxe Edition
Official description :
It was, sadly, one of Jerry Goldsmith’s last film scores. Only Timeline and Looney Tunes: Back In Action (both 2003) would follow it. In 2002 Jerry Goldsmith took his final voyage on the fabled USS Enterprise and gave Star Trek Nemesis and the whole Next Generation crew an epic send-off. This is the release so many Star Trek fans have been waiting for. Goldsmith’s complete score from Star Trek Nemesis is presented, along with a set of bonus tracks that includes source music, a set of alternate cues and mixes, plus a rare opportunity to listen in to the final moments of Jerry Goldsmith on the Star Trek scoring stage with his orchestra and director Stuart Baird. In the wake of a joyful wedding between Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and Troi (Marina Sirtis), Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) receives another reason to celebrate: the Romulans want peace and the captain will be the Federation’s emissary. But as the Enterprise heads toward the Romulan Empire, a brilliant villain awaits — harboring a diabolical plan of destruction and an unimaginable secret that will give Picard his most fearsome challenge. We’re very excited to mark the return of the Varèse Sarabande CD Club with this historic and important Jerry Goldsmith release.
