You can find a full definition on our build types page.
Energy Builds
Energy builds use beams, cannons, or a mix of the two for their primary DPS sources. Sometimes they include a single torpedo. These builds are subdivided based on the primary firing mode and energy flavor (e.g. Phaser):
Beam Overload (BO) is a single target beam firing mode
Cannon Rapid Fire (CRF) is a single target cannon firing mode
Cannon Scatter Volley (CSV) is an AOE cannon firing mode
Exceed Rated Limits (ERL) is a single target firing mode that applies to all energy weapons and causes very fast attacks
FAW or Fire at At Will (FAW) is an AOE beam mode
Surgical Strikes (SS) is a single firing mode that applies to all energy weapons and does more damage with greater critical chance but attacks slower
Reroute Reserves to Weapons (RRW) is a single target firing mode that applies to all energy weapons and causes very fast attacks at the cost of engine power
Exotic Builds
Exotic builds primarily focus on weapons, abilities, traits, and consoles that scale with the Exotic Particle Generator skill.
Exotic or EPG builds use exotic-scaling torpedoes alongside their other exotic abilities for their primary damage source. This is the main variety of exotic builds.
DEWSci builds mix energy weapons and exotic abilities for more sustained DPS
TorpSci builds mix kinetic torpedoes and concepts with exotic abilities
Projectile Builds
Projectile builds focus on damage dealt directly by torpedoes and mines
Mixed builds use a variety of projectile flavors like photon and quantum. This is the main variety of projectile builds
There are builds that focus specifically on a single subtype like Photon or Quantum . These are a small subset.
Minelayers are extremely niche. While most mainline mixed builds will incorporate mines, using them for primary DPS requires some shifts in focus and build.
Carrier Builds
Carrier builds are focused on amplifying and boosting hangar pet damage. Some capability should still be retained from the launching craft, but the emphasis is on boosting the pets.
Support Builds
Support builds are AOE energy / DEWSci builds that are built to debuff enemies and amplify their allies into dealing as much as damage as possible. They are not needed for general play and are mostly used to help others set DPS records. We subdivide these into Anchor Supports more focused on control and having Gravity Well III and Spotter Supports that emphasize having a Commander Tactical Seat for Attack Pattern Beta III along with more debuffs.
Tank Builds
Tank builds are Fire at Will builds that additionally emphasize drawing enemy attacks onto themselves away from their team and thus additional survivability as well
Heavy Tanks attempt to draw as much fire as possible while also surviving and dealing as much damage as possible.
Support Tanks are also built to draw fire and survive, but also devote considerable build space to adding consoles and traits that will debuff enemies and amplify the capabilities of the rest of the team.
Detailed Build Table
This table reflects scores on the Infected: Space Elite (ISE) or Hive Onslaught Elite (HSE) maps for the following performance metrics:
All builds but especially damage builds are evaluated for damage-per-second (DPS). We list the record maximum DPS
Tanks are evaluated for the percentage of total enemy attacks they draw for the team (% atks)
Supports are evaluated for the team's highest debuff percentage (% DB) as well as the number of team personal best records that were achieved alongside that build (PBA).
You can find more detailed performance metrics on the individual build pages, including on other maps.

Props on the effort!
This might be the proper thread, but I wondering… I have the Vengeance and ranked really good in s13 with FAW build.
With all the changes (been away for almost 2 years now). What C-store Fed cruiser would be able to outclass the Vengeance ? I’m look at the miracle worker tact cruiser for the trait. Just wondering if there a better option.
PS: Will be more active since new dps standards are making me want to compete again 🙂
vengeance is stil a good ship. another cheap one for feds with zen would be vanguard warships and (if you prefere a fed visual) gagarin. other good ships would be promo ships so yea 😉
I think the vengeance remains the best federation cruiser when it comes to dps, because it suits both cannons, beams, its boff flexibility is great and it’s hard to compare it with anything else but the fleet shepard, which would be on par with the vengeance, but loses on cool-points 🙂 so from two ships who perform similarly, ofc you pick the cooler one. Which is still the vengeance.
Hi, I have a query, I’m running a FAW build in the fleet Sheppard. Have entwined tactical matrices trait and boff abilities torp spread I and mixed armaments synergy III. Do you know if I trigger the mixed armaments synergy prior to torp spread will it buff the FAW I that entwined tactical matrices triggers?
Entwined Tactical Matrixes is triggered by activating TS, MAS is triggered by actually shooting a weapon, so you have to fire the torpedo to boost FAW. Now add in Super Charged Weapons and have fun.
Thanks, Will give that a go.
Has power creep knocked Romulan Operative off the list of personal traits? Or are my Romulan/Aliens still worthless?
Given the amounts of exceptional new traits, the Romulan Operative doesn’t really justify that slot.
You could go with any other as a replacement or even slot a defensive trait. It suits you better as an overall bonus at the end game build setup.
if you have romulan operative as a trait from your rom toon you could use that one too. technically a rom/alien is better than a rom/rom
How about the faction-specific traits from the temporal warships, like Heart Of Sol for a phaser build?
Heart of Sol is definitely a good trait, quite on par with Strike from Shadows.
Heat of Sol? Sounds like a T’Pau song 😬
Does targeting lock battery help if activated after activating fire at will?
So … , two questions :
1) The last update to thie page was on September 14, 2019 . Update needed ?
2) I have Faw 3 and TS 2 on multiple ships . Will Entwined Tactical Matrices do anything for me ? I’m asking because I don’t see what Faw 1 or TS 1 will do for me in the long run ?
not much changed since then, but you might wanna check out our “how to beams” guide 🙂
in addition, your faw will run for 10 out of 20 seconds. you use ETM to have a faw running for those 10 seconds you dont have your faw 3 running for a 100% uptime of faw. in addition, another torpspread is better than no torpspread 😉
in case you want to know more, feel free to join our discord and ask us there directly 🙂
could you explain why you never use rending shots in any of your builds ?
Rending shots would have been a great trait when we were around 30% crit rate. But now we have more than 90% which means just one in ten shots is not a crit. Which makes it rather rare to get more than one stack from rending shots.
But anyway, this guide needs an update.
Calm Before the Storm starship trait, comes from Cardassian Intel Flight-Deck CARRIER, not Cruiser
It was called “Flight Deck Cruiser” at release.

SPOILER ALERT: This story discusses major plot developments in Season 5, Episode 1 of “ Star Trek : Discovery,” now streaming on Paramount+.
By the end of the episode, however, the mission has pushed Burnham and her crew to their limits, including slamming the USS Discovery into the path of a massive landslide threatening a nearby city. Before they risk their lives any further pursuing this object, Burnham demands that Kovich at least tell her why. (MAJOR SPOILERS FOLLOW.)
Kovich’s explanation evokes the classic “ Star Trek: The Next Generation ” episode “The Chase” from 1993 in which Capt. Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) — along with teams of Romulans, Klingons and Cardassians — learn that all humanoid life in the galaxy was created by a single species that existed billions of years earlier, and seeded thousands of planets with the DNA to pass along their legacy. (Along with presenting a profound vision of the origins of life, the episode also provided an imaginative explanation for why almost all the aliens in “Star Trek” basically look like humans with different kinds of forehead ridges.)
Kovich tells Burnham that the Romulan scientist was part of a team sent to discover exactly how these aliens — whom they call the Progenitors — made this happen; the object they’re seeking winds up being one part of a brand new “chase,” this time in the 32nd century, to find the Progenitors’ technology before it can fall into the wrong hands.
“I remember watching that episode and at the end of it just being blown away that there was this huge idea where we all come from,” Paradise says. “And then they’re going to have another mission the next week. I found myself wondering, ‘Well, then what? What happened? What do we do with this information? What does it mean?’”
Originally, Paradise says the “Discovery” writers’ room discussed evoking the Progenitors in Season 4, when the Discovery meets an alien species, the 10-C, who live outside of the galaxy and are as radically different from humans as one could imagine. “As we dug deeper into the season itself, we realized that it was too much to try and get in,” Paradise says.
Instead, they made the Progenitors the engine for Season 5. “Burnham and some of our other characters are on this quest for personal meaning,” Paradise says. Searching for the origins of life itself, she adds, “feels like a big thematic idea that fits right in with what we’re exploring over the course of the season, and what our characters are going through.”
That meant that Paradise finally got to help come up with the answers to the questions about “The Chase” that had preoccupied her when she was younger. “We had a lot of fun talking about what might’ve happened when [Picard] called back to headquarters and had to say, ‘Here’s what happened today,’” she says. “We just built the story out from there.”

Carriers are a type of playable starship. They are among the largest vessels in the Starfleet, KDF, RRF and Dominion fleets, and due to their massive size they are also the slowest and least maneuverable. This weakness is offset though by the vessels ability to launch hangar pets and other small craft to aid it in combat. For example, a Vo'Quv-class Carrier can launch hangar pets such as B'rel ...
Stuff like starship traits (like Council of Thought) that scales based on friendly ships around you are affected by your fleet of pets. The Jem'Hadar Vanguard Gamma pack gives a lot of cool ships, and the vanguard carrier has 2 hangars, (so 4 frigates or 12 fighters) plus 2 escort raider wingmen, plus a deployable console clicky, at all times.
But from my experience, I can honestly say and sci carrier with Intel seating is best. Drop a GW3 and Ionic turbulence and the highest level can melt enemies pretty fast.
