Trek Allant+ Full Review

The Allant+ is one of Trek’s best-selling series of ebikes, blending modern design and high-tech features. These are high-performance ebikes with top speeds of 20 mph to 28 mph, depending on the class and specs.

All models are equipped with a Bosch motor and battery, Shimano derailleurs and hydraulic disc brakes, lights, as well as all the accessories necessary for daily riding.

The Trek Allant+ is every city commuter’s dream as its Bosch motor provides plenty of torque and the 500-625 Wh batteries offer enough capacity for a few days of riding. In case that’s not enough for you, you can also add a second long-range battery to double the range.

All models also feature Trek’s proprietary Removable Integrated Battery (RIB) system for a sleek look and easy charging. The batteries are seamlessly integrated into the downtube, but easy to remove and replace or charge off the bike.

Trek Allant+ comes with a sleek-looking aluminum frame with integrated battery and cables, available in three variations:

Trek is a rare brand that offers its bikes in three variations, as most other brands only offer step-over and step-through frames. The Stagger variation is somewhere in between.

If you like ebikes with a clean look and a simple color palette, you’ll like Trek Allant+’s design. All cables are integrated and the battery is almost unnoticeable, hidden inside the down tube.

This aluminum frame is paired with a 45 mm suspension fork on the Allant+ 7 and 7S models, a rigid alloy fork on the Allant+ 8 model, and a rigid carbon fork on the Allant+ 9.9 models.

High-Performance Bosch Motor and Battery

The heart and soul of Trek Allant+ ebikes is a Bosch mid-drive motor coupled with an integrated but removable Bosch PowerTube battery.

The most affordable Allant+ 7 and 7S builds come with Bosch Performance CX drive units, and all the other models come with faster and more powerful Performance Speed units.

Likewise, the Allant+ 7 and 7S builds have 500 Wh batteries, while all the other models boast larger 625 Wh batteries that offer more range.

Of course, all builds use modern torque sensors, feature large Bosch displays, and have app connectivity which lets you customize assistance levels and overall ride feel.

At the moment of writing this Allant+ review, Trek offers this series of ebikes in four builds:

As you can see in the section about electronics above, they mainly differ in motor power, battery capacity, and top speeds. However, they also differ in terms of drivetrain components and the brakes they use.

The most basic Trek Allant+ 7 build features 2-piston hydraulic disc brakes, whereas all the other builds with 28 mph top speeds have 4-piston hydraulic discs as they need more braking power.

Its blend of Bosch and Shimano technology offers unrivaled reliability and functionality, making it an excellent choice for both dedicated ebike commuters and casual city riders.

Naturally, if you pay more you’ll also get a better groupset, ranging from Shimano Alivio, over Deore, all the way to XT.

Durable Commute-Ready Accessories

If you want to replace your car with a capable ebike, you’ll appreciate the fact that Trek Allant+ ebikes come pre-equipped with all the accessories you could possibly need for year-round commuting.

This includes front and rear fenders, front and rear lights, a rear rack, and a kickstand. All builds come with the same accessories, regardless of the price.

The only disadvantage with these is that the rear racks on the more expensive models sit lower than the fenders, so you may only use them to attach panniers. You can’t use them to strap a basket or a backpack on top. Though it’s fair to say that most commuters travel with panniers so this may be a problem only for a select few.

Trek Allant+ Downsides

Apart from the potential issue some riders may have with the rear rack that we mentioned above, Trek Allant+ doesn’t really have any downsides.

The main thing that will deter some people from buying it is its price. Namely, you can get a much cheaper model from direct-to-consumer brands that does pretty much the same things that the Allant+ models do.

Despite its premium price tag, the Trek Allant+ delivers a remarkable fusion of comfort, style, and performance.

However, Trek does it a lot better, looks A LOT nicer, and is arguably more durable with better customer support. So it’s up to you to determine your priorities and decide if these perks are worth the upcharge.

I Would Ride Trek's new electric bike everywhere (if I could afford it)

A seriously fun, and seriously expensive, electric bike.

The wind whooshed through my hair as I effortlessly pedaled uphill through Central Park. Other riders, stuck on their 20th-century bicycles, looked on in sweaty envy as they pumped their legs. 

I couldn't help but smirk as I even passed two riders bedecked in professional cycling gear. Yes, they were getting exercise, but I was letting technology do the work for me.

The reason for my two-wheeled top-loftiness was that I was riding Trek's new Allant+ eBike, which uses pedal-assist technology to give you an extra boost while riding. The motor and battery, made by Bosch, have been improved to give the bike a nearly 100-mile range, and it pairs with a smartphone app that not only shows you how fast you're going, but offers turn-by-turn directions too. 

This ain't the Huffy from your childhood. Trek's Allant+ series starts at $3,599; the model I rode costs $5,999.

Trek Allant+ Pricing and Availability

The Trek Allant+ Series is available online now, and should be at Trek dealers in October. Trek will offer three models of the Allant+ in multiple configurations.

The Allant+ 7 and Allant+ 8 (starting at $3,599) will each come in four variations, including a low-step version and a Sport version, which increases the pedal-assist speed to up to 28 miles per hour. Both have metal frames.

The Allant+ 9.9S is available only in a sport version, though a low-step model will be available. The 9.9S' frame is made of carbon fiber, which shaves about 4 pounds off the total weight. 

All models except the (Allant 7+ low-step version) can be configured with an extra 500Wh battery, which will increase the bike's range to up to 160 miles.

Allant+ Smart Bike Features

To get the most out of the Allant+, you'll need to download Bosch's app (available for Android and iOS), which, when connected to the bike via Bluetooth, displays your speed, direction, and more in real-time. A clip in the middle of the handlebars holds your phone securely in place, and a USB cable from the bike's battery provides extra juice to your phone. 

The app can also be linked to smartwatches with heart-rate sensors (such as the Apple watch ) so you can view your heart rate on your phone. Other features of the app include turn-by-turn directions using Google Maps, music controls, and the ability to store up to 10 contacts, in case you want to make a phone call during your ride.

You can control most of these functions by tapping your phone's screen or by pressing buttons located on the left handlebar. Here, you'll also find two buttons that let you switch between the bike's four pedal-assist modes: Eco, Tour, Sport and Turbo. The greater the pedal-assist, the lower the range. 

Performance: As Easy as Riding a Bike

I took a 6-mile loop of Central Park on the Trek Allant+ 9.9S and was impressed with how easy it was to zoom up hills. As soon as I started pedaling, the assist motor kicked in, giving me a real boost and making it feel as if I was on level ground. The motor ramps up smoothly, so it's not jarring. 

In no time, I was cruising along, hitting speeds of up to 30 miles per hour on downhills and straightaways, and zipping past everyone. The bike itself handled well and felt very stable when taking corners. 

It was a real joy to ride, especially on a nice sunny day. I probably could have ridden it until its battery ran out.

Outlook: Great If You Can Afford It

Electric pedal-assist bikes are still a niche product in the U.S. for two reasons: They're expensive, and this country doesn't have roads and infrastructure that are as bike-friendly as those in Europe. 

Still, if I had to commute between 10-20 miles by car (and not on major highways), I could see real value in picking up an eBike to save some wear and tear on my automobile and give me a bit of exercise in the process. If you don't have to go as far, an electric scooter might be a more cost-effective option. 

With a starting price of $3,599, Trek's Allant+ eBike is an expensive proposition, but it's a fun one.

My 1st Day with the new Allant+ 9.9S

Well today I took my new Trek Allant+ 9.9S for my first daily ride. I did about 15 miles as it’s a little bit cold today (35° when I started). There’s a bunch of new noises and I'm sure it's just like getting a new girlfriend; you have to learn about her before you complain J. Moving forward as each day progresses, I’ll have the opportunity to learn as to what these noises may be and see if they could be characteristic to the bike, to the motor, to the wheels, to the brakes, or ?? They're all different types of noises. As an example if you listen to a washing machine during its washing cycle you hear the agitator going to kerchung, swish, kerrchung, swish. Well I hear that same kerchung swish when I'm peddling and I'm not sure if that's a normal noise or if it's something that shouldn't be hearing. We'll see. Also, the trigger shifter is very, very hard to push with my thumb to change gears. I was told by my Trek dealer that it will get better after a break-in period. I’m not sure about that I’m going to consider electronic shifting at whatever expense as my thumb with a thumb brace still has difficulty and pain pushing an extremely hard trigger shifter. When I picked up the bike, it was covered with smeary, greasy residual handprints. The matte grey OCLV Carbon frame tends to show that. If the assembler/handler used blue rubber gloves, it may not have happened. Also, the seat post had grease on it. It is questionable if it is/was carbon seat post specific. The Cobi electronics for the smartphone is a learning curve. Once it is used more frequently, it should be easier. Fear of the $1,000 iPhone popping out is something to worry about. (over bumpy places?). It feels better than the Super Commuter. Overall, it’s a nice bike, and just like anything else new, gotta break it in, get comfy, etc. More to come.  

Are you sure the dealer completed a prep? What's to break in on a shifter cable? Sounds like the cable is dry to me. It should nearly effortless. Have you purchased from the dealer before?

The odd part to the trigger shifter dilemma is I had the exact same experience when I rode the Allant+ 9.9S in NYC a few months ago when it was there at the Trek Store on W.72nd St. for a week and I had complained then too, and got the same answer. Uggggggggggggg, back to the thumb splint, it's killin' me.

I thank you for your response...however, if it was SO EASY TO ACHIEVE THE END RESULT, then why on earth would the LBS say "that's the way it is", etc.? I know it's not YOUR problem, and it's mine, but the fact remains, 2 bike, both same issue. Previous Super Commuter (2 of them), no problems, like the Allant...so, I know how to read, but I should not have to do ANYTHING for a new bike that the LBS was notified of the problem I feel mis a problem, and they blow me off. My opinion. I should not have to do anything, that's why I pay someone else. My choice. If the parties that charge for service feel they have no solution, and you say I should own it, then I disagree.

UGGGGGGH. Way too much to have to worry about. Quite frankly, if Trek is to be a major player in the game, they should step it up to be assured that their LSB tecs are of some sort qualified, certified, other than being the guy who knows his s*it.

I borrowed my Allant from the LBS today (mods not quite complete) and put in almost 20 miles on a test ride. I didn't have any problems with the shifters. I would describe them as "firm" but shifting is not difficult. When upshifting, I find the lever in a position where it is easiest to pull towards me. Downshifting I'm pushing away. The click of the shifters is louder than on my other bikes (audible and positive "click") but I definitely wouldn't describe the shifting as difficult.

Natürlich ein fantastisches Ergebnis! Aber worauf basiert dieses Ergebnis? Und ist es der rechtmäßige Gewinner? Wir haben es getestet. Neugierig? Lies alles über Trek Allant+ 9.9s im Review.

Trek Allant+ 9.9s 2020

Der Trek Allant+ 9.9s 2020 ist ein leichtes S-Pedelec, das für sein schlankes Design uns seinen angenehmen Fahrkomfort bekannt ist. Das Elektrofahrrad hat einen Mittelmotorantrieb von Bosch Performance Speed (75Nm).

Außerdem kann man den 625Wh-Akku mit einen 1125Wh-Akku ersetzen. Mit 625Wh hat der Trek Allant+ 9.9s eine Reichweite von ca. 60 km. Mit 1125Wh etwa 100 km. Das Standardmodell kostet €6.599,-. Bevorzugst du 1125Wh? Dann kostet es €999,- extra.

Unsere Erfahrung

Das erste was uns sofort auffällt, ist das Gewicht des Fahrrads. Mit nur 19 kg ist der Trek Allant+ wirklich ein leichtes S-Pedelec. Dies macht es sehr wendig. Das Fahrrad ist bei hohen Geschwindigkeiten in Kurven und zwischen Verkehr leicht zu steuern.

Eigenschaften

Der Allant+ 9.9s kann sicher als High-End S-Pedelec bezeichnet werden. Teilweise wegen des spektakulären Bosch Kiox Displays. Das Display zeigt einfach alle Informationen an, die man benötigt (Uhrzeit, Modi, Geschwindigkeit und Akkulaufzeit.

Das Display ist außerdem auch dem neuesten. Das Display kann mit Bluetooth verbunden werden und ist daher einfach mit dein Handy zu verbinden. Auf diese Weise verpasst du nie eine Nachricht. Schließlich ist ein Handy beim Radfahren verboten!

Diebstahlsicherung

Dieses preisgekrönte Modell hat viele Vorteile. Zum Beispiel ist es mit einer Diebstahlsicherung ausgestattet. Mit ein High-Tech-GPS-System weißt du immer, wo sich das Fahrrad befindet. Wenn dein S-Pedelec gestohlen wird, kannst du es schnell finden.

Bosch Performance Motor

Neben der Tatsache, dass das Fahrrad aufgrund seines geringen Gewichts sehr wendig ist, beschleunigt es auch blitzschnell! Das S-Pedelec ist mit einem Bosch Performance Motor ( 75Nm ) ausgestattet.
