The Kooks in Concert Formed in Brighton in 2004, The Kooks achieved mainstream commercial success almost immediately. Taking their name from the title of a David Bowie song, The Kooks signed to the Virgin Records label in 2005 and have not looked back since, enjoying Top 10 singles, No. 1 hit albums and a number of awards along the way. Influenced by the music of artists such as The Police, The Strokes and The Rolling Stones, friends Luke Pritchard, Hugh Harris, Max Rafferty and Paul Garred formed The Kooks while at Brighton Music College. Just a few months after forming, the band was offered a recording contract with Virgin. The resulting debut album, Inside In/Inside Out, was an immediate smash hit in 2006, reaching No. 2 in the UK album chart, achieving platinum status in both the UK and Ireland, and winning many fans in the US. In 2008, The Kooks returned with another hit album Konk, featuring the tracks “Shine On” and “Always Where I Need to Be.” The Kooks embarked on an extensive tour to help promote the album. The third album from The Kooks, Junk of the Heart, was released in late 2011. The commercial success of The Kooks has been matched with critical plaudits from their peers and the music industry. The single “She Moves in Her Own Way” was nominated for a BRIT Award in 2007. In 2006, The Kooks were crowned Best UK and Ireland Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards. That same year the band also picked up the UK Festival Award for Best Breakthrough Act. In addition to these wins, The Kooks have also been nominated on a number of occasions for both Q Awards and NME Awards.

this is probably the best concert I have been to and will ever go to. got to meet members from the kooks and the vaccines which was so lucky and surreal. they're the sweetest people ever and so so talented. 10/10 experience, will go to any future show I can attend.

Beautiful evening

All three bands performed so well! I was transported back in time in the most fun way. Love the Fox in Oakland, and seeing The Kooks there was just a great treat. I would definitely see them again next time around.

Vaccines > the Kooks?

Great show overall. Felt like the Vaccines had the edge on the Kooks. The Fox now prices beer at extortionate levels. $17 a pint is DL robbery.

A well rehearsed journey

Clearly they’re a band that knows how to read and move a crowd, design a set that shares a story with ups and downs, and they’re incredible musicians. Their instrumental break, especially during “Do You Wanna”, was a mind melting experience. 9/10, would travel to see another show.

All 3 bands were great, but the Kooks really knocked it out of the park. The band is great and Luke Pritchard is a great showman and lead singer. I would highly recommend going to this show. The Kooks rarely come to the US, don't miss your chance.

"It's going to be a lot of fun"

The Kooks have announced a 2024 North American tour with The Vaccines – you can find all the details below.

The Brighton band are due to head to the US and Canada early next year, where they’ll celebrate the belated 15th anniversary of their debut album ‘Inside In/Inside Out’ (2006).

“We’re gonna play the whole record,” frontman Luke Pritchard explained in a video on social media. “We’re delighted to announce we’re gonna be joined by our friends The Vaccines. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Elsewhere, The Vaccines said that they’ll be performing “full headline length sets every night” of the tour. “See you there!” the group added. “We can’t waittt!”

Kicking off in Atlanta on February 29, the upcoming run of gigs also includes stop-offs in Toronto, Montreal, Boston, New York City, Chicago, Salt Lake City and Los Angeles. Daisy The Great will appear as an additional support act.

The Kooks previously performed ‘Inside In/Inside Out’ in full on a celebratory UK and Ireland tour last year . They also released a 15th anniversary reissue of the album , the original of which features the singles ‘Naïve’, ‘She Moves In Her Own Way’ and ‘Ooh La’.

Reflecting on the LP during an interview with NME last year , Pritchard explained: “‘Inside In/Inside Out’ has got a lot of energy. It’s a coming-of-age album with a lot of angst, which is probably why teenagers still discover it.

“Really, though, I don’t know. Maybe it’s an algorithmic thing. The world is mad like that, but it’s exciting for us.”

The Kooks’ sixth and most recent studio effort, ’10 Tracks To Echo In The Dark’, came out in July 2022.

Meanwhile, The Vaccines are gearing up to release their sixth album ‘Pick-Up Full Of Pink Carnations’ early next year. They’ve already previewed the project with the singles ‘Heartbreak Kid’ and ‘Sometimes, I Swear’ .

The Kooks have announced that they’ll be heading to the United States for a 16-stop 2024 tour with The Vaccines.

Kicking off on February 29 with a performance in Atlanta, the tour will bring the two beloved British bands to cities like Boston, Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and more, with The Kooks confirming that they’ll play their debut album, Inside In/Inside Out , in its entirety at each stop in celebration of its 15th anniversary. Inside In/Inside Out is, without a doubt, the best set of anthems for anyone experiencing growing pains. Centered around the complex emotions almost every teenager encounters, The Kooks’ debut album was bound to be a hit. Back when it was first released, a Pitchfork review described the album as “youthful overconfidence” and lacking a sense of direction. This exact sentiment is why the album remains so compelling today.

Don’t Drink The Water: How The Environmental Movement Shaped Music

The Kooks released Inside In/Inside Out in January 2006. It was an immediate hit, landing the No.2 spot in the UK Albums Chart for two weeks. The band itself had only formed a year prior to the recording of the album. (Their name came from the group’s mutual admiration for Hunky Dory -era Bowie.) In 2005, they recorded their first demo, focused on landing gigs. But after being scouted at the Brighton Free Butt Festival, they quickly signed to Virgin and recorded their debut album.

The Kooks have announced that they’ll be coming to the United States for “the first time in a long time” for a 16-stop 2024 tour with The Vaccines .

Tickets for the shows go on sale to the general public via Ticketmaster on Friday, October 13th, at 10:00 a.m. local time, following a Live Nation pre-sale which opens on Thursday, October 12th, at 10:00 a.m. local time (use access code VOCALS ). Joining The Kooks for the duration of the tour will be The Vaccines, who are currently gearing up to release their sixth studio album, Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations on January 12th via Thirty Tigers. On Wednesday, October 11th, they shared the album’s latest single, “Sometimes, I Swear,” a cathartic tune that grapples with the deep questions of life, over a soundscape of guitars, of course.

Speaking about the new single, The Vaccines’ lead singer Justin Young said: “Like many songs before it, ‘Sometimes, I Swear’ began life as Tim [Lanham, keyboardist] and I sat on my sofa in London. I don’t think there are many places on the planet where I feel so at peace as sitting in my own home, but even there I constantly question my place in the world. I think the innate human need to be part of something — to connect with each other in a community or a congregation — is what keeps driving us forward and searching for meaning. The Kooks Announce U.S. Tour with The Vaccines 

Two Britain powerhouses, The Kooks and The Vaccines, will head for a 16-city North American tour next year.

The trek, se to kick-off on February 29, 2024, will span over a month across the U.S. and Canada, beginning in Atlanta at the Tabernacle on February 29. From there, they’ll make stops in Boston, Philadelphia, Toronto, Montreal, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and more, before wrapping-up at San Francisco’s Fox Theatre on March 22.

“We’re going to play the whole record,” The Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard said in a video posted on the band’s social media account . “We’re delighted to announce we’re going to be joined by our friends The Vaccines. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

With their breakout album Inside In/Inside Out in 2006, The Kooks have garnered a worldwide audience that is fond of the 60s British pop sound as well as indie-rock and pop-rock. As a celebration of their debut record’s (belated) 15th anniversary, the group announced that they will play the album front-to-back at each stop throughout their forthcoming tour.

Since 2006, The Kooks have dropped five more albums, including 2022’s 10 Tracks to Echo in the Dark . Before the album release, the band delivered a series of singles including “Connection,” “Jesse James,” “Modern Days,” “Closer,” and “Beautiful World.”

The Vaccines have rolled up their sleeves for their sixth album Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations —  set to be released in early 2024.

In 2011, the group dropped their debut album What Did You Expect from the Vaccines?, which went on to become the best-selling album of the year in the UK. They dropped four studio albums over the following years, selling two million records worldwide. The band previously performed as an opening act for bands like the Rolling Stones, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, the Stone Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Imagine Dragons, and Muse at various tours and festivals.

“We’re gonna play the whole record,” frontman Luke Pritchard explained in a video on social media. “We’re delighted to announce we’re gonna be joined by our friends The Vaccines. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

It’s going to be super epic because The Vaccines are joining them throughout the North American trek! They said they’re going to be performing “full headline length sets every night” of the tour. “We can’t waittt!” they shared on their social media. They’re releasing their sixth album ‘Pick-Up Full Of Pink Carnations’ early next year too. Some tracks off the album have been debuted too with the singles ‘Heartbreak Kid’ and ‘Sometimes, I Swear’. Hopefully, they play these at the show!

Formed in Brighton in 2004, The Kooks achieved mainstream commercial success almost immediately. Taking their name from the title of a David Bowie song, The Kooks signed to the Virgin Records label in 2005 and have not looked back since, enjoying Top 10 singles, No. 1 hit albums and a number of awards along the way.

Influenced by the music of artists such as The Police, The Strokes and The Rolling Stones, friends Luke Pritchard, Hugh Harris, Max Rafferty and Paul Garred formed The Kooks while at Brighton Music College. Just a few months after forming, the band was offered a recording contract with Virgin. The resulting debut album, Inside In/Inside Out, was an immediate smash hit in 2006, reaching No. 2 in the UK album chart, achieving platinum status in both the UK and Ireland, and winning many fans in the US. In 2008, The Kooks returned with another hit album Konk, featuring the tracks “Shine On” and “Always Where I Need to Be.” The Kooks embarked on an extensive tour to help promote the album. The third album from The Kooks, Junk of the Heart, was released in late 2011. 

The commercial success of The Kooks has been matched with critical plaudits from their peers and the music industry. The single “She Moves in Her Own Way” was nominated for a BRIT Award in 2007. In 2006, The Kooks were crowned Best UK and Ireland Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards. That same year the band also picked up the UK Festival Award for Best Breakthrough Act. In addition to these wins, The Kooks have also been nominated on a number of occasions for both Q Awards and NME Awards.

Amazing concerts!!

All concerts of the night were incredible! We’ve been to The Kooks concerts 3 times before, and never cease to amaze us! Truly great show! We barely knew The Vaccines prior to attending their show, and we became instant fans after their performance! Absolutely phenomenal, tons of charisma and great playing!

The Kooks was such a great night!

The Kooks concert was amazing because the seats were good, the sound was good, the people that sat next to us were good, and it made the whole night amazing. I have wanted to see them for so many years but never got to and it was like a dream come true. Plus the opening band was awesome too! Such a fun and unforgettable vibe & night!

I love the kooks and would go see them again. I think having it on a better night rather than a civic holiday monday would have been a bit more convenient but I would not have missed it. Liked the venue too.

Kooks loads of fun

Had a great time seeing the Kooks at Danforth Music Hall. Had a reserved seat which was nice as you can arrive just in time for the show rather than much earlier. Had good sight lines. Theatre is nice. Saw the Kooks in 2008 at V-Fest and was thoroughly impressed then. Their new material is excellent and I bet they will have a good upcoming year. Nice intimate show and they played their familiar tunes as well. Crowd was very obviously enjoying it. Opening act Nightbox were excellent as well.

The Kooks to play homecoming gig at Brighton beach next year

The Kooks have announced they will play a very special homecoming show in Brighton next year in association with Radio X .

The band, who formed in the East Sussex seaside town two decades ago, will perform at On The Beach on Sunday 21st July 2024.

Speaking to Radio X, frontman Luke Pritchard said: "We're very excited about this show - it's been a long time coming. We're on the pebbles, it's gonna be beautiful. I can't believe we've never played the beach before!"

The band will be joined on the day by six more acts: Sea Girls who known for their chart-topping indie rock anthems, Mercury Prize-nominated Maximo Park and singer-songwriter Kate Nash . Opening the day are Fred Roberts, Brooke Combe and Nieve Ella – three up and coming artists, each with a unique style.

General tickets for The Kooks at On The Beach Brighton will go on sale at 10am on Friday 15th December via thekooksbrighton.com.

Pritchard told Dan O'Connell on the Radio X Evening show tonight (11th December): "I kind of feel like the band owes everything to Brighton. It's really where I grew up, so it is a homecoming.

"We weren't like the kings of Brighton, we were like the princes of Brighton, if you know what I mean. We were like the young ones - all the other bands would take us under their wing. We were like the little cousins of The Libertines or The Strokes, or whatever."

The Kooks - Naive

The Kooks first burst onto the scene in 2006 with their debut album Inside In/Inside Out , which included the tracks Naïve , She Moves in Her Own Way and Ooh La . Since then, the band have issued five more studio albums: Konk (2008), Junk Of The Heart (2011), Listen (2014), Let's Go Sunshine (2018) and 10 Tracks To Echo In The Dark (2022). The band also took debut album Inside In/Inside Out out on tour in 2021 to mark the 15th anniversary of its release.

Luke looks back on the days of Inside In/Inside Out with fondness, saying "It was an amazing place to be, Brighton. It was good fun, a lot of indie nights, a lot of craziness. What's amazing is that the music has swung back round. I'm not so fond of the fashion coming back round, though!"

The musician also revealed that The Kooks would have new material ready for their Brighton show next July, explaining that the band have just finished a new self-produced album, which he promises is "the best eleven tracks we've had for a long time."

The Kooks are already heading down under this April and May to grace the Groovin The Moo lineup, but they’ve just super-sized their itinerary with a bunch of capital city headline dates to boot.

The Brighton indie rock favouites will be bringing their huge back catalogue of epic singalong hits to stages across Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Perth, on top of their regional stops along the Groovin run.

The Kooks – ‘Cold Heart’

These new shows will mark The Kooks’ first time back on our shores since their sold-out run in 2022, celebrating the 15th anniversary of their debut album Inside In/Inside Out .

Meanwhile, their Groovin The Moo soujourn will see the band play a festival set for fans in Wayville, Canberra, Bendigo, Newcastle, the Sunshine Coast and Bunbury as part of a stacked lineup that also features the likes of Alison Wonderland , DMA’s ,  Hot Dub Time Machine ,  The Jungle Giants ,  Mallrat ,  San Cisco  and more.

The Kooks just announced that they're heading back to the US, "the first time in a long time", in celebration of their iconic debut album "Inside In/Inside Out". The British pop-rockers are all set to perform the acclaimed album in its entirety at every stop for its 15th anniversary. They're also bringing along a special guest, The Vaccines, who also happens to be celebrating their new record, "Pick-Up Full Of Pink Carnations". Back in 2021, The Kooks released a 15th Anniversary deluxe edition reissue of their debut record, including bonus tracks featuring alternate takes and demos. This time around, everyone's in for a live treat.

"Inside In/Inside Out" is definitely one heck of a banger, striking the feels of every teenager-at-heart going through life's pains, it spoke to listeners on a whole other level. Though the record coincided with the massive release and media attention to Artic Monkeys' debut "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not", The Kooks' debut offering entered the UK Albums Chart at #9 and peaked at #2. The hit record went on to become certified 5x Platinum by the BPI, with sales crossing over 1.5 million records.

In a revisit by uDiscoverMusic, "These are anthems for the coming-of-age listener, driven by love, lust, and infatuation," wrote Harriot Smith. The record definitely tackles jarring adolescent reflections with the album's unique energy and vibe. "Inside In/Inside Out" shares memorable hits and fan favorites including "Time Awaits", "Sofa Song", "You Don't Love Me", "She Moves in Her Own Way", "Ooh La", and "Naïve".

The record definitely remains to be a hard-hitter, something that generations of listeners will find themselves to keep relating to. Smith continued to write "It’s impressive to hear how relatable it all still sounds. Multiple generations have now come to Inside In/Inside Out, and still feel its power," sharing how its tracks such as "25" still share the same nostalgic force to the youth.

Though the record was met with a few setbacks by critics such as Pitchfork describing the album as "youthful overconfidence" and a lack of direction at the time, Inside In/Inside Out's success wasn't about the technicalities of producing a "perfect" debut. It's about the power that music holds to influence and strike the feels.

"We didn’t sit down with a blueprint," frontman Pritchard shared in an interview with Sunday Business Post in 2008. "We just naturally developed and we didn’t try to shape or mould ourselves to anything.." Hopping into the studio with a multitude of tracks inspired by a variety of genres, the record just fell into place, albeit with an "incredible amount of patience" from their producer Tony Hoffer.

An album that divided critics' opinions, some praising its exploration and uniqueness while some targeting its sonic disorganization, The Kooks proved that great music isn't about appeasing critics or putting out perfect melodies. It's about every listener being able to relate and feel every message weaved by the band.
