2024 Polaris Patriot BOOST Switchback Assault 146 Review

2024 real world sled of the year and rad award, 2024 lynx rave re 850 review, 200 horsepower yamaha sidewinder x-tx le review, tour buddy tanks for fan cooled revs.

Tour Buddy is always expanding the list of sleds which their innovative auxiliary fuel systems fit. This fall, for the first time in Tour Buddy history, fan cooled sled owners will have the convenience and security of extra fuel capacity on the 2005 Ski-Doo REV 550 and REV 380.

Due to the rear mounting of the REV Tour Buddy, there’s no issues with underhood packaging or cooling. These two new fan coolers use the same chassis as liquid cooled REV models.

This means the slick and aero-appearing REV Tour Buddy will fit in the rear tunnel extension ahead of the taillight.

With the REV platform using fan cooled engines and the slick looking fitment of the REV Tour Buddy Auxiliary Fuel System, fan cooled riders can go the distance this winter.

TOUR BUDDY INSTALL

tour buddy fuel tank

  • Add to quote

Bought a tour buddy for my sled on ebay. Didnt come with instructions but from their website is says works on vacuum drawing fuel from aux tank to main tank through vent line. My main tank vent line fitting is a lot smaller guage than the fuel line fitting on the aux tank and wanting to ensure good fuel flow am looking for larger fitting. Problem is cant find anyplace that carries these fuel fittings, have checked several auto part shops, 2 cat shops, a farmers supply? Anyone with any experience/suggestions? Option #2 is that I am right out of it, and am guessing all wrong regarding this things proper installation. :help

tour buddy fuel tank

can you post pics when your done installing. How many gallons does it hold and how much was it? sorry i cant be of any help

tour buddy fuel tank

I had installed a tour buddy on an mxz but the instructions should be the same. On top of the your tour tank remove the fitting without the filter and swap it with the vent fitting on your sled.Put the small vent line on the tour buddy and route accordingly. Now with the large fitting on the sled hook up the filtered line to it. A word of caution about the tour buddy,..Don't ride aggressively with a full TOUR TANK- it is hard on the belt cover. I bent mine right down on to the clutch.

Thanks valley runner, that was what I was thinking of doing. Amazing what common sense and someone to confirm your thought can do eh? Dont ride aggressively he says  JJ, good tip. Bri, picked it up on ebay for about $100cdn. They are $299cdn in royal dist winter catalogue and I believe it holds about 3 gallons. Packs in pretty nice under the hood and I am sure it will provide all kinds of piece of mind, the boyz usually like to push it and I am always watching the gas guage. Will try and post some pics in the next day or so.

That's cool!

tour buddy fuel tank

How does it T into your system?

Although I like the idea, I also see the problem... Rip a belt while blasting across a lake, and now instead of the belt flying off and maybe thumping your hood, it rips open the gas tank. The contents of the tank now get flung all over the hot engine/exhaust... Not saying that would happen, but a belt whipping around at 8000+ rpm has more than enough energy to destroy the belt shield, so it could easily rip apart the tank. it would be one of those freak things that rarely happens, but when it does, KABOOM!

I have thought of the possible of that, I am going to fab a piece of 4"wide 1/4" flat stock to help do 2 thing. One support the tank and 2 help protect against belt detonation. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Snowmobile.com App

tour buddy fuel tank

2.8 gals is a lot of weight. Does it affect handling? Does it empty FIRST, then take from your main tank? Seems like a great idea...

Yes the buddy drains first. Watch the YouTube video it shows how it works. As for handling I haven't had a chance to give a true run yet. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Snowmobile.com App

2.8 gal @ 8#/gal = appx. 18#.

I must say the way it pulls the fuel is SO simple! I like it!

tour buddy fuel tank

Too bad I can't use it on my sled, EFI.

You could, just not automatically! Consider it a worst case spare tank of gas stored under the hood that you would have to dump in.

Tour Buddy Question?

  • Add to quote

if i was to install a tour buddy on my 900 can you still acess the belt and clutches w/ the tank mounted to the clutch cover? and also, how difficult is it to install fuel line to the main tank? and finally, once installed is it easily removable? thanks, -goose-

Your spare belt would need to be moved but so far as access to the clutch etc, no problem. As for hooking it up, no problem with removing it later should you choose to do so. Rick.

Hey Rick, my wife's sled has a Tour Buddy that was installed prior to me owning the sled, and it worked great up until this season. So far, the sled hasn't used any fuel from the Tour Buddy like it has in the past. I have run 2 tanks of fuel; through it this season and it still is only pulling from the main tank. I checked to see if it was plugged up or there was an air leak in the system, but it siphons fuel from the main line that runs to the main tank. I know that it used to (and is supposed to) pull fuel from the Buddy first. What's your take on it? Just trying to get any other ideas before I call the company up for suggestions. Thanks--Bleedin'

Is the gas cap leaking air? The tour buddy draws from the main tanks vent line. If the cap on the main tank leaks it will pull air there instead of from the buddy.

I have ahad 2 tour buddys on my cats and both quit pulling fuel from the tour buddy. It turned out to be the arctic cat gas cap and neck on the tank. The caps dont seal tight enough and if you overtighten them to try and seal the system you will get a minor crack on the gas tank neck by the threads which causes the system to fail. I have tried o-rings, teflon, and a million other things to get the cap to seal and have not had a lot of luck. These were 93 and 97 machines so the new style cat cap might work better. Good Luck!

wher does the fuel line from the tour buddy dump into the main tank? is it an easy task? -goose-

Spaceman and tazdog--thank you for your replies--I never thought of that. I also noticed where the vent line hooks up to the main tank (the vent line nipple) it may be leaking around there too as this part for some reason is swiveling. I think that I'll hit this with some silicon to try to seal that area up in addition to checking the cap and filler neck for cracks. Goose--as was mentioned above, the vent line IS the fuel line from the Buddy to the main tank. As the main tank trys to draw air from the vent line, it actually draws the fuel from the Buddy instead since the vent line is hooked up to the fuel pick-up on the Buddy. This is why the main tank has to be sealed up completely because if there is an air leak around the gas cap or filler neck on the main tank, it will draw air (causing the tank to vent) from this crack and not pull the fuel up from the Buddy. The reason the tank has to vent is because as the engine is drawing fuel, if there wasn't a vent the tank would collapse and the engine would eventually starve itself of fuel. Hope I didn't confuse you more--wish I could take a pic and show you how it works.--Bleedin'

thanks guys. sounds easy enough! i think i'm going to order one. -goose-

Tour Buddy Gas Tank

Anyone have a Tour Buddy gas tank that they want to sell? Its the black one that mounts on the rear deck of any rev and holds 4 gallons. I am going to purchase one, so, just figured I would ask if anyone has one laying around that they are not going to use. E-mail reply please " [email protected] ", thanks.

yea, but it is the trunk model and it comes with a free sled, here is the linkhttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4583163813&sspagename=ADME%3AL%3ALCA%3AUS%3A31

I've seen the one for the 04 and newer rev but I didnt know they made one for the trunk! That looks nice.

General question here. Does anyone run a Tour Buddy Fuel Tank instead of a can on the back. They are made in Canada and I'm thinking about bringing some in but do not know if anyone would use them instead of carrying an auxiliary fuel tank. For those of you that have not heard of them the link above will take you to their web site. Thanks Mark

I don't use one myself. From what I have heard the Tour Buddy fuel supply is burned first, so you would have the best of both worlds. Run into the mountains on that fuel and have a full main tank when you get to the hills. That would be great. Right now I run the main tank down, then use the jerry can to get back to the truck.

I ran one a long time ago on a 500 RMK. Great idea and great product. The only problem is it does get burnt first, so you cant save any for a "just in case"

Tour buddy I Have a friend who had one on every sled he had (4) now (3) he had one burn the fuel line off then the sled started on fire , couldn't get it out , watched the sled burn for two hours , had to haul it out of the woods on a pull sled. He took them off of (3 ) remining sleds he has.

Fuel Buddy I ran one on my 99 ZR, a long time ago I know. Last year I ran a XP and on long days had to watch my fuel. I know it is used first and the just in case times that would not be good. I've been in a few of those and you spend the last few hours worrying about fuel. I guess in these cases hopefully someone else has a can on the back of their sled.

sweet......180 bucks for a automatic gas tank, that sits in the same place as my 12 dollar one.

I could see using it for long distance flatland trips,(on sleds that don't have a rack) but for mountain riding I think it's a waste of $$$.

Hey Firstplaceparts, Contact Seth at www.trailtank.net . He has awesome new products coming out for sleds and is looking for more dealers like yourself. His stuff his high quality and much better than the tour buddy stuff. He currently makes large capacity replacement tanks for the sno pro and Nytro. However, he will be releasing ones for the RMK, AC m series, and XP this season. His tanks run around $300 and add 2-3 ga. He will also have the 2.5 ga spare cans available in a couple weeks that are roto molded and will be in different colors. The spare can will fit all the aftermarket racks that are on the market. BTW, he was contracted by Yamaha to make the large capacity tank for the them so you know is stuff is good if the factory uses it.

The Jerry cans seem more useful IMO.......You can take them off and stash them when you're highmarking the hill, and you don't have to worry about crushing them if you roll. Also, Jerry cans can be shared with others in the group if needed. Just my .02

Were to carry extra fuel??

  • Add to quote

Hi I have a 2006 polaris fusion 900 and was looking for some input as to were to carry extra fuel. The only place that I see to put a fuel can is on the back of the tunnel, however if I put a fuel can here it blocks the tail light.... I could wire in another tail light but that may not look all that good. Let me know if you have any idea's. Thank's Poch

http://www.tourbuddy.com/graphics/2005PolarisFusionL.jpg tour buddy makes a tank that goes on the rear tunnel it blocks the rear storage compartment, but it doesn't block the taillight, the fuel lines run under the seat When installed correctly, the Tour Buddy fuel system is fully automatic and empties into the existing fuel system. The Tour Buddy tank empties first and because there is a fuel filter installed in the Tour Buddy tank, clean fuel is flowing to your main tank. All the parts for a complete installation are included with your purchase of a tank holds 2.8 gallons my brother has one on his 05 900 and it seems to work pretty good, pretty simple to install

it does block the rear compartment but you still have the compartment buy you foot, or you could buy a saddle bad or a windshield saddle bag if you need more room. As for taking it off you remove i think four screws and plug the lines running to the front.

Tank Sims

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) -

“When he came out he seemed so big to me.” Brandon Sims recalls the time he first laid eyes on his son. “I called him Tank.”

But on the day Tank was born, picking a name was the least of Brandon’s worries.

“When they first started the tests we were very concerned,” Brandon said. “There was concern about a hole in the heart. They said it could vary from taking medication to surgery. So we were very scared that day.”

Extra Nytro Fuel Question?

tour buddy fuel tank

  • Add to quote

I ride an XTX and ride in Northern Ont. alot. There are a few runs where I can't make point A to point B without running out of fuel. Namely Hornpayne into Hearst for one and Cochrane to the Abitibi base camp another. Both areas are wide WFO running and that doesn't help. I usually strap a 2.5 gal can to the running board which works fine but looks like ass! I don't want to get into the $$$ of Yamaha's trail tank or the bags either. My question is: Has anyone used an ATV Jr fuel caddy and mount? It holds just over a gallon and is streamline and wouldn't hang overboard. The mount rivits to the tunnel and locks can into place. I'm think of trying it. Both together are under $80 Canadian.

The skidoo rev gas cans carry 12L and fit nicely and look a lot better than other options. I have the one prior to the new linq and it works great! You need a Yamaha turnout tip as well. Sent from Snowmobile.com Free App

I didn't know Tour Buddy offered something for the Nytro. Looks like arse though.

yeah i thought about that^ but leaves no room for other stuff on the rear. since you have an xtx you have about 4-5 inches more tunnel if you move the light to the reflector location. I just bought the mountain addiction rails. can put like 6 gallons on a set I believe. 3 at the very least and when you dont need them slide them off. Plus they offer bags that slide on as well. Looks real clean. Ill post pictures when i get mine mounted.

Try rotopax. They make some low-profile cans. Also, some guys use the Doo fuel can. The ultimate fix is the trail tank though.

I put the mountain addiction cans on so got 2 1.3 gallons i can slide on and not worry about them. then if i dont need the cans i can take them off and strap my large bag on the back over the small mounts. if the trail tanks were not 3x as much and low on budget this year i would have got the trail tank instead.

Do you have a picture of what this looks like.

I personally do not like the looks if the trail tank. It is far from stock look. Looks stock from 10 feet away buy not when you are up close. You have to cut your stock panel tabs off. So putting it back to stock is not an option either. This is why I went with the skidoo rev tank. Way cheaper than the trail tank and easier to install. Plus anybody could use the gas if needed. Do you still have the sled? Can u take a picture of the tunnel? Sent from Snowmobile.com App

I personally feel the nytro has to much weight up high on the column already. By adding 30 more lbs of fuel on an already unbalanced sled from the factory makes it feel weird. Putting it all on the rear helps balance out the sled more. Imo. I've owned all three trail tank, tour buddy, and yamaha cans. Trail tank looks the best, but tour buddy looks good if you wrap it and feels better riding

A linQ tank will have just under 20lbs of fuel in it (12L). Myself, I've got no ass.. so anyone with a bigger ass then myself would have just as much weight out back..lol

I had the tour buddy, was functional but like stated looked like ass! Then I had the doo gas caddy, and now I have 2 kolpin fuel cans. Look cool! Work great, lol

Land vehicle Snowmobile Vehicle Snow Winter sport

I have two yamaha fuel caddys for the nytro available with all hardware. Its all like brand new as it was on my sled for 2 weeks. They hold 1.25 gals each.

I have had a trail tank on 4 nytros. Cutting the tabs off on the plastic is not noticeable when you put the stock tank back on. My vote is for the trail tank.
