The app is linked to the Tourist Police 1155 Emergency Response Centre, where there are also interpreters and translators ready to provide tourist assistance in other languages.

Tourists requiring help at any time 24 hours around the clock can use the application to contact the Tourist Police, who will dispatch officers to the scene immediately. Tourists can also take a photo of an incident and upload via the app to require assistance.

With over 1,900 officers, the Tourist Police operates throughout the kingdom, including in all the major tourist destinations like Bangkok, Phuket, Samui, and Chiang Mai.

Tourist Police “I Lert U”: A phone app from the Tourist Police Headquarters

Tourist Police “I Lert U”: A phone app from the Tourist Police Headquarters

When the situation with Covid-19 began to improve, tourists from all over the world started flocking to Thailand, proving beyond a doubt that this country is a popular tourist destination. Visiting Thailand’s stunning sights is only part of the experience; tourists will also appreciate the country’s improved infrastructure and increased security.

The “Tourist Police I Lert U” app, provided by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ Tourist Police Headquarters, is a must-have for visitors' safety while in Thailand. There are five readily available channels of contact (English, Chinese, Japanese, and Russian) that make communication quick and simple, thereby enhancing safety communication.

Both iOS and Android platforms are available for setup. When an emergency occurs and assistance is required, responders can track the applicants’ smartphones via GPS, and the applicants can send a request for assistance by pressing a button and uploading a photo of the situation. The system will immediately notify the Emergency Notification Center 1155 of the event. Following that, staff members will call the number you provide and dispatch personnel to the GPS coordinates of the incident.

Additional language support will be added soon for ASEAN languages, French, German, and Arabic.

New Tourist Police campaign aims to make Thailand safer for travellers

New Tourist Police campaign aims to make Thailand safer for travellers

Tourist Police Bureau’s “New Year New Normal 2022” campaign launched on Monday will see more security checkpoints set up nationwide with officers on hand to provide assistance and promote safer travel across Thailand.

Tourists will also be urged to download the “Tourist Police i lert u” smartphone application so they can seek help immediately.

The campaign was launched at an event presided over by Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn in Bangkok’s CentralWorld shopping centre on Monday.

Also attending was Tourist Police chief Pol Lt-General Sukhun Prommayon.

New Tourist Police campaign aims to make Thailand safer for travellers

“This campaign was launched as a publicity measure for tourists, so they realise that Thai police, including the Metropolitan Police Bureau, Central Investigation Police, Immigration Bureau, Tourist Police volunteers and the private sector will proactively provide security during the New Year period,” Sukhun said.

He added that the “Tourist Police i lert u” application, which was launched on December 15, aims to prevent crime as it monitors tourists while they are travelling in Thailand, so police can jump to their assistance when required.

The application is linked to the 1155 Emergency Response Centre, which will dispatch police officers immediately. The call centre is available in English, Chinese, Russian, Japanese and Korean, and will next year support French, German and Arabic.

Most prudent people always have a contingency plan in case of an emergency, such as an accident or a sudden health problem. By its definition, an emergency does not mean there is time to take action to prevent it; it happens all of a sudden. It’s important to have a plan in place to deal with major emergencies.

If you do not speak Thai and you have a sudden acute health problem, go to the nearest international hospital, they always have interpreters. The main thing is to get medical help as quickly as possible. Later on, you can ask to be transferred to another hospital, if necessary. If your problems are not related to your health, contact the numbers listed, depending on the situation.

With the growth of tourism over the last 30 years a special unit has been set up by the Royal Thai Police force to deal with the safety and well-being of tourists. The officers of the Tourist Police wear a distinctive badge on the their arm and speak English and some other European languages. They can be called upon in all kinds of situations, such as road traffic accidents, theft, disputes with hotels or shop keepers where a foreign tourist is involved. They will act as arbitrators on disputes, and in our experience they do so in an unbiased fashion.

Thailand Vows to Protect Tourists’ Safety After Deadly Mall Shooting

THAILAND-SHOOTING

T hailand will take steps to enhance the safety of foreign tourists, official said on Wednesday, a day after a teenager shot dead two people, including a Chinese visitor, inside a popular shopping mall in downtown Bangkok.

Tourism Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol stressed the shooting at Siam Paragon mall in the capital city was “an isolated incident.” However, law enforcement agencies will tighten weapons screening at shopping malls and other tourist spots, she said.

The Chinese national, a 34-year-old woman, and a Myanmar citizen working at the mall, were shot dead by the 14-year-old boy. The shooter, who was nabbed by the police, was previously treated for mental illness and had skipped taking medication, according to police chief Torsak Sukvimol. Five people were injured, including another Chinese citizen.

The shooting casts a shadow on Thailand’s expectations for a surge in foreign tourist arrivals under a visa-free program for visitors from China and Kazakhstan. The Southeast Asian nation, popular for its beaches, Buddhist temples and national parks, is forecast to receive up to 30 million holidaymakers this year, more than double the tally in 2022.

Thailand is counting on tourists to power an economic recovery this year as it grapples with headwinds from a decline in exports and higher interest rates. Chinese tourists were the largest group of visitors to the country before the pandemic, accounting for about 28% of the record 40 million foreign arrivals in 2019.

Watching Fallout

The fallout from the shooting on tourism needs to be watched, Bank of Thailand Governor Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput said Wednesday, adding the industry had recovered to 60-70% of its pre-Covid levels.

“The shooting will hurt confidence of tourists and sentiment,” said Burin Adulwattana, chief economist at Bangkok-based Kasikorn Research Center. It also “increases downside risk to Thailand’s fragile economic recovery. The government will need to try its best to restore confidence.”

Shares of hotel, shopping mall operators and airlines fell in Bangkok trading, dragging the SET Tourism & Leisure Index to a one-year low. Central Plaza Hotel Pcl dropped as much as 8.5%, leading decline among the hotels, while mall operator Central Pattana Pcl fell as much as 2.8%. Asia Aviation Pcl lost as much as 4.5% and Airports of Thailand Pcl slid as much as 3.6%.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand and other agencies will also step up their communications strategy to ease concerns among travelers and improve Thailand’s image as a safe tourism destination, officials said at a briefing on Wednesday.

While mass shootings are not very common in Thailand, a former cop used an automatic weapon to fire at a daycare center in northeastern Thailand last year, killing 36 people, mostly preschoolers. Since then, the government has ordered a crackdown on unlicensed gun owners and compulsory registration of all firearms.

I doubt it. Unless the agency is willing to give you a refund, I cant see what the police Will do for you. Nothing to stop you trying thou, but I think it will be a waste of your time.

Take it as an expensive lesson to do more research next trip.

tourist police bangkok

I thought I was a savvy tourist and the same thing happened to us, £22 wasted.

No. Accept it, learn from it and move on.

I've been scammed badly at the start of my travelling life, many people have.

If you paid by card you can try a refund through card provider

Police definitely will not be interested.....has any crime been perpetrated?

If it is simply a question of being overcharged for something that you could have got cheaper elsewhere, so long as the product or service is actually delivered I don't think that your credit card company would get involved.

I don't think it's police matter. If you agree to a price then that's down to you.

Probably best to do a post about the agency to warn others or a review if it's listed on TA.

Good Advice Baz! you are correct - thats about the only thing to do - and then others can be forewarned

Ok, to summarize and end this post I will tell my story, maybe someone will learn from it, will not do my mistakes. It was probably done countless times, but warnings are never enough.

1. The begining.

2. Travel agency

Every one there were nice etc. Do not know how and when bu we decided to także their offer (even we asked several times they havevnot listed proces for each service (hotels, tickets, trips). At the begining it looked ok. Usually we just book by ourself, but now maybe we wanted to have evrything done and didn't want to think about it anymore. But after a while and Google search we found out that hotele were not so good, that we were overprised for almost evrything. Etc. Just bad day.

3. Day after we decided to go to Travel Police in Bangkok (near Mui Thai stations, of course first we search through Internet whether it's, no problems with them or What so ever). Policemen there were very nice to us, they heard our story, it's true they said that it would be very hard to canceld it, especially when we paid by cash. They new that it was scamm, and they proposed that one of their mam will go with us to this agency for negotiation, to see what we can do to minimalizm our lost.

We go there, my and Tourist policeman negotiatated with agency boss. What we manage to get is cancaletion of one day trip to long neck village (with refound) and upgrading our room in Chiang Mai and new hotel in Krabi that has higher standard and is near the sea (previous one also were supposed to be but on map it wasn't at all).

So true, we have not recieved our money back, but now we are less worried about our stay in Thailand .

This is the story, now advices.

1. Never go to TukTuk if someone is sending you to one - if you want take it yourself from the street - you will see real prices for their service (Tuk with flag which is legal one). It will not by 100 Thb for around the city, much higher but they take you were you want.

2. Buy tourist SIM card with Thai number (after whole accident I bought Happy Turist card for 299 THB, dtc company). With it you will have 1GB net (4G very quick) and 100 THB for calls. So you can check everything by yourself.

3. If you don't want it yourself don't go to ane agency, tailor or what so ever that *MyFreind* Thai is convincing you - it will be scamm.

4. Tourist Police is to help you, they understand that turism is very important to their country. If you thing that you were scammed - they will try to help you. But of course they don't do mirricles, by reasnable, in the end you (I) were stupid enough to by fulled, you (I) were overprised, but it is still leagal. Plus TP siad if anything will be wrong with our bought trip, something will not be as written on terms, let them know and they can take action, even (if it will be very bad) agency can lost their concesion.

4. If you want to Travel agency, were convinced by them, pay by credid card - you will have some time to stop the transfer - as someone said earlier, TP also advices it to me.

5. Don't talk to *MyFreind* Thai or person who advices you were to go and give you Cheap TUK TUK. It is a scamm.

I do not say that Thais are bad etc. As every country there are Black sheeps. We have seen dark side of Bangkok and we have seen bright side (smiling people, old lady selling something I don't know but it was delicous, dancing ppl in smal bar on Khao San Rd. and helpful Tourist Police)

Sorry for this long post, maybe someone will read it.

Sorry for mistakes, I'm writing it via smartphone.

Maybe if someone will like to have more details in this matter, send me e-mail/priv on forum I will try to anserw/help if I will be able.

To this agency we went by small scooter, 3 of us, and policeman was quiet big, it was funny experience, especially for my other half because she is scared of motocycles.

Little correction about tuk tuk. I am not sure whether this with flag are legal or not. Just look out. And generally they are one time experience, normaly don't use them, they are expensive and dangerous in comparison to other means of transport.

Phuket court responds to surge in tourist-related cases

The Phuket Provincial Court will reopen its tourist section to help visitors to the province settle court cases following a recent surge in litigation linked to tourists.

Acting chief justice of the Phuket Provincial Court, Kriangsak Rodpunshoo, recently presided over a meeting about reopening the section.

He said the large number of Thai and foreign tourists in Phuket has caused a surge in criminal and civil cases in which tourists are involved.

The rise in cases is affecting tourists' confidence in their personal safety and the potential risks to their property, and is also having a spillover effect on tourism in general across the nation, said Mr Kriangsak.

"Proceedings in the tourist case section will help ensure justice for tourists when a criminal or civil dispute, or a dispute with a state agency, arises so they can receive legal protection," he said "This will build tourists' confidence and create a good image of Phuket province and tourism in Thailand as a whole."

The section first opened on Sept 24, 2017, but its operations ceased due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Some of its functions include assisting tourists in filing complaints in consumer protection cases, arranging negotiations, tracking down witnesses who are also tourists, and issuing subpoenas to sued entrepreneurs.

The development follows a recent case in Phuket involving two New Zealand tourists who have been banned from visiting the country again after attacking a traffic police officer on March 16. They were charged with robbery, obstructing an officer while on duty, attacking an officer of the law, driving without a licence, and bribery.
