  • Cole from Kansas Another popular misheard line in this song, besides, 'Sweet dreams are made of cheese' is ...'who am I to dis a brie?'
  • Chad from Apple Creek The Eurythmics version of this song is great. However, Marylin Manson's version was completely dark and creepy in my book.
  • Squirrel Butler from Canada So...I have a choice about who to believe about what this song is about. I could choose to believe "Brent from Hobart", or Annie Lennox, you know, the person who actually WROTE THE DAMNED SONG!! She has said in multiple interviews, and in her own book, what the song is about. And No, Brent, it ain't about "Jim". Fact.
  • Harris from Uk Squeeze "Take Me I'm Yours" (1978) not only has the lyrics "dreams are made of this", but Jools Holland's keyboard part sounds pretty damn similar to what the Eurythmics "wrote" 3 years later!! haha
  • Susan from Illinois Daniel S from Dallas The line is “Sweet dreams are made of this”. Annie sings the word in syllables. Th-is
  • Krista Schneider from Marion ,kansas This song is amazing!
  • Daniel S from Dallas Pfft. Cheese, l don’t think so. The world is turned upside down right now. Annie clearly sings, “Sweet dreams are made of these”, which just happens to rhyme with seas. Besides, dreams is plural, these is also plural.
  • Seventhmist from 7th Heaven Some of my dreams are made of cheese, as long as the cheese on a pizza.
  • George from Vancouver, Canada This song summarized: Imagine you are a whore. . . A dominiatrix, to be exact, or maybe you're a john visiting a dominatrix. . . Refrain: Some of them want to use you Some of them want to get used by you Some of them want to abuse you Some of them want to be abused.
  • Jim from Dayton, Oh You could see something "deeper" in the inclusion of the cow. However, I think Dave Stewart was bringing some levity to the screen overall by poking a little absurdest fun at the stark seriousness of the video.
  • Brent from Hobart, Australia A classic example of not believing what you read. The truth about this classic song has been long misinterpreted for nearly 30 years. I was a manager for a band on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia in 1990 with a drummer in it named Jim Toomey ( Who played in the band "The Tourists" along with Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox before they formed the latter "The Eurythmics"). Jim was asked to join The Eurythmics when The Tourists folded. Dave Stewart wrote the song with some imput from Annie in Jims honour after he declined the offer to join the band having been in numerous other bands over many years prior and was tiring of all the constant travel, getting ripped off and burnt by managers and record companies alike. Jim and Dave had a very strong bond together when they were in The Tourists and loved each other like brothers. It has nothing at all to do with BDSM. It's all about Jim. Fact.
  • Wohuman Paz from Chicago, Il This is an awesome song with an awesome instrumental. For me it exposes a timeless truth of human existance in the most simplest, basic and natural form. Its a song about what motivates people as people all over the world are looking for something from somebody. I am glad that Eurythmics added the part about 'keep your head up, moving on' cuz it would otherwise be a depressing song. I interpete the cows in the video to be a representation of mans animal nature and in alot of ways we are no different than cattle. That is why a crowd of people is shown in one clip in the vid. Does anybody know what book is in the video? Thanks.
  • Budoshi from Sandnessjøen, Norway It's a great song, has really stood the test of time:D I love it as much right now as I did way back when I first heard it in the 80's
  • Monique from Cleveland, Oh This was also the theme song of an 80's TV movie"Making of a male model" that Starred Joan Collins and the John Eric Hexam,he died not long after filming.
  • Adrian from Johor Bahru, Malaysia I always listen to this song whenever I am making new friends as the song is sort of an advice on the types of people we meet in our daily lives.
  • Naomi from Philadelphia, Pa I love this song, always have!!!!! :)
  • Kane from Wytheville, Va the song was also on everybody hates chris and nas's version is the coolest he calls it street dreams!!
  • Tiffany from Little Rock, Ar This is one of the songs that defined the 80s! New Wave pop blew up disco and this song was one of the powderkegs involved! IMO, Annie Lennox is a musical powerhouse and deserves her status as a British soulful icon up there with Sir Elton and George Michael.
  • Tony from Chicago, Il This song is hypnotic!! it's incredibl;y good, even for synth-pop!!!!!!! real cool video
  • Chris from Charleston, Sc The main bass riff is from a Roland SH-101 synthesizer.
  • Jason from New York, Ny Later inappropriately matched up to the opening credits of "The Apprentice: Martha Stewart".
  • Shana from Detroit Rock City, Canada This Song is on the Simpsons, wehn Artie Ziff comes back and tries to "woo" Marge. This song is used at the very end, with Artie's own lyrics substituted in..." I am watching you through a camera!"
  • Andy from Arlington, Va #356 on Rolling Stone's Top 500 songs
  • Rick from Humboldt, Ia wow eurythmics are quite freaky. i hate hearing the song missionary man because it always freaks me out

About Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)

"Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" is a song written and performed by the British new wave music duo Eurythmics. The song is the title track of their album of the same name and was released as the fourth and final single from the album in early 1983. The song became their breakthrough hit, establishing the duo worldwide. Its music video helped to propel the song to number 2 on the UK Singles Chart and number 1 on the U. S. Billboard Hot 100. It was the first single released by Eurythmics in the U. S. "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" is arguably Eurythmics' signature song. Following its success, their previous single, "Love Is a Stranger", was re-released and also became a worldwide hit. On Rolling Stone's The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time issue in 2003, "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" was ranked number 356. Eurythmics have regularly performed the song in all their live sets since 1982, and it is often performed by Annie Lennox on her solo tours. In 1991, the song was remixed and reissued to promote Eurythmics' Greatest Hits album. It re-charted in the UK, reaching number 48, and was also a moderate hit in dance clubs. Another remix by Steve Angello was released in France in 2006, along with the track "I've Got a Life" (peaking at number 10).   more »

The Eurithmics are an awesome twosome, but Marilyn Manson's remake of it puts a completely different tone and suggests the darkerside of people and love. A good remake by Marilyn Manson.

everyone says this is just a eurythmics cover, but if you listen closely, it's not. "I wanna use you, and abuse you! I wanna know what's inside, you..." Those lines were never in the eurythmics version. i dunno what he means, but i think it means something

Marilyn Manson wrote this song at an early stage of his career, when things were going roughly. He had witnissed/experienced many shittier parts of life around the time of this song, and he felt that the lyrics to the eurythmics' song was a perfect philosophy about the different types of people in life. I believe that MM has been used and abused before several times, and he wants to finally be the person using and abusing. Also, the music video for this song is by far the absolute creepiest but stunningly gorgeous video made in the history of mankind. I highly reccomend that every person on planet Earth view it.

I love this song!! Mariln Manson does it better

This version of Sweet Dreams is much better than the original one. It's alive song...Not like the eurythmics. This song rocksssssssss!!

This is the best song Marilyn Manson does in my opinon. I mean sure its not an original but he really made this song that much better than the original. He took the orignal hook, which already was kinda eerie, and built the rest of the song around that mood. I give him credit for changing the song without ruining it.

masochism is hot to me...

I guess I'm just one of those people who wants to be abused...

I had never heard this song until I watched House On Haunted Hill and it came up on the credits....

But it really does sound 7,000,000x better than the original, as all MM songs do...the other one just made me think of a black woman dancing, but this one gives me a dark-sexual-truth kind of vision...and, being the BDSM girl that I am, that turns me on....so now I need to hear that song around a BDSM guy like myself...

Ah, this song brings me to nirvana. Listening to it brings my world to a whole better level. And by the way, Mercsl55amg, you are an asshole. Please, for the sake of us all, stop coming here and bad mouthing MM. You make yourself appear ignorant.

you can say whatever you want ,but i would still love to get laid with marilyn manson.:P))) and i couldn t say I m much of the masochistic type of girl or something, but this song is absolutely great...and,basschickrocker,I was thinking about the exact same thing...demons and fears that each of us has, that sometimes control(abuse) us more than normally...it s the inner anger always coming up when you re angry,hurt,upset... precisely because it`s called sweet dreams...

No, originals arent always better. The original was to peppy. to upbeat. marilyn manson made it darker and better. And no not anyone could cover it and make it sound good, that is one of the stupidest things i have ever heard.

travel the world and the seven seas

What are the Seven Seas?

The seven seas include the arctic, north atlantic, south atlantic, north pacific, south pacific, indian, and southern oceans..

Image of the ocean

The exact origin of the phrase 'Seven Seas' is uncertain, although there are references in ancient literature that date back thousands of years.

The origins of the phrase 'Seven Seas' can be traced to ancient times.

In various cultures at different times in history, the Seven Seas has referred to bodies of water along trade routes, regional bodies of water, or exotic and far-away bodies of water.

In Greek literature (which is where the phrase entered Western literature), the Seven Seas were the Aegean, Adriatic, Mediterranean, Black, Red, and Caspian seas, with the Persian Gulf thrown in as a "sea."

In Medieval European literature, the phrase referred to the North Sea, Baltic, Atlantic, Mediterranean, Black, Red, and Arabian seas.

As trade picked up across the Atlantic, the concept of the Seven Seas changed again. Mariners then referred to the Seven Seas as the Arctic, the Atlantic, the Indian, the Pacific, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and the Gulf of Mexico.

Not many people use this phrase today, but you could say that the modern Seven Seas include the Arctic, North Atlantic, South Atlantic, North Pacific, South Pacific, Indian, and Southern Oceans.

However, our ocean is more commonly geographically divided into the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic, and Southern (Antarctic).

How many oceans are there?
